One of the best things about this pride is looking at myself in the mirror and knowing that no one in my hometown would recognize me. It's a rush of relief that I cannot begin to explain. Happy pride, from a butch dyke trans guy. Happy pride, young trans guys, from your future. You will find this comfort and contentment, too. Just don't give up looking for it.

Just jumbled thoughts about gender and labels and that sort of thing, since my brain wouldn't stop spinning last night about it when I tried to sleep.
I am at a point where I sorta shrug when thinking about my gender. Saying woman is the easiest and most simple, especially with queer added on. But I also have always been drawn to butch once I found out about it. At the same time, I don't know if I am butch enough to call myself butch.
It was probably also a a mistake to somehow find myself down a Reddit rabbit hole about butch and butchness. There was a lot of stuff about how bi women can't be butch, how you can't be butch if you wear a skirt or dress comfortably, and that sort of thing.
In the past, I went through a real femme phase and I wasn't really uncomfortable with it at the time, but it didn't last. I also will on occasion wear dresses and skirts. Though, to be honest, most of those times are for costume reasons.
At the same time, I feel most comfortable in more men's clothes/masc looks, and that is what I go for most of the time. I don't know if I look "good" like that all the time, but there is some internalized fatphobia that goes a long with that. I am also naturally hour glass shaped vs apple or pear so I that also leads to sometimes feeling I don't look like a butch.
The comments about bi's not being able to be butch also makes me feel sad. Whilst I do find men on occasion attractive, I cannot see myself settling down with a man as a partner, especially not a cis man. So, bi, but for sure more strongly sapphic.
And I have a problem of "do I want to date that or be that?" for a lot of things in the butch realm and with masculinity. Sometimes it is both, sometimes one or the other.
And I know, language changes over time, and the queer community is full of new language and ways to express identity that were not around when butch and femme began in use. And I am probably overthinking this all, but I don't want to be accused of something like butch stolen valour, you know?

im just gonna start assuming people who use the lesbian flag upside down just hate gnc lesbians/butches bc thats the whole point of the orange being on top. in emilys first ever post w/ the lesbian flag they literally said “orange on top, just to shake things up and to subvert the idea that femininity should come first.” why would you flip the one which has meaning to being on top but not do the same for other flags that dont really need the same thing? me thinks there might be some ulterior motives

But when asked about the representation of butch lesbians in the mainstream media, Taylor was scathing.
“What representation? I’m sorry, I don’t see any. It’s literally, absolutely nowhere,” she said.
[...]
“It’s a call really to all butch women, trans mascs, non-binary, gender non-conforming, funny-looking men, funny-looking women,” she said. “The butch identity, I feel, is resurfacing.”

I love how much accepting the lbgt groups are in tumblr about butchs.
You are a trans butch? okay that is completely fine and beautiful!
You are a NB butch? Valid again!
You are a man who enjoys masculine women and butchs?

"I know what butch is. Butches are not beginner FTMs, except that sometimes they are, but it's not a continuum except when it is. Butch is not a trans identity unless the butch in question says it is, in which case it is, unless the tranny in question says it isn't, in which case it's not. There is no such thing as butch flight, no matter what the femmes or elders say, unless saying that invalidates the opinions of femmes in a sexist fashion or the opinions of elders in an ageist fashion. Or if they're right. But they are not, because butch and transgender are the same thing with different names, except that butch is not a trans identity, unless it is; see above."

Where's all the love for subby butches? It's always "let them destroy me with their strap" and never "let me strap them til they cry." Cowards, butch subs will stick their tongue out and bark if you ask us to, you just gotta ask. Here's to all the butch subs and switches who don't wanna be firm all the time

catch me googling "how to partake in the butch tradition of having a lanyard/ring of keys clipped to your belt when you don't have a job or a car and so most of the things on your lanyard are just decorative keychains"

let's clear something up
femme does not mean long hair. butch does not mean short hair.
femme does not mean skirts. butch does not mean trousers.
femme does not mean make-up. butch does not mean no make up.
femme does not mean clean-shaven. butch does not mean unshaven.
femme does not mean thin. butch does not mean fat/muscular.
femme does not mean pretty. butch does not mean ugly.
get cishet people's idea of gender presentation out of your head

Today I went out to get my nails done with a buddy of mine. In my tiny-ass town, there's one nail salon. I've never been, seeing no need to when I could just paint them at home.
Anywho, we walk in, sit down at the waiting area. The lady at the front desk takes one look at me and grabs the remote for the tv playing in the back.
Prior to our arrival, it was on some sort of reality show. She changed it to the Bengals/Bills game. And hey, I love a football game just as much as the next person. But changing it to a sports game the minute someone you think is a guy walks in? Not sure what to think of that. Maybe I wanted to watch mindless reality tv.
