I'd be more interested in the Nezha arc if he went after the supers, since Clark imprisoned him. But yeah, "Damian is a demon" motifs wore thin really during the DickBats era. (Like the actual half-demon is the nicest of the Titans, too, so, bilateral fail.)

See that would have been 100x more interesting, especially since Clark and Jon have such a fulffy wholesome relationship, so seeing them fighting will actually be engaging/thrilling.

Yet we get a 100th story about Damian possibly turning evil and fighting his neglectful father once more just because Batman sells.

It would have been convincing to have Damian in the center of this event if there was more of an empathizes on him being an Al Ghul, since Nezha is connected to the Lazarus Pits (even though they have yet to reveal what exactly is his connection to them) but that hasn't been done yet, the only thing they did was bring Talia for 5 minutes to demonize her and then it was back to Bruce again.

So really when you think about it, there's no real reason for Damian to be possessed aside from Nezha being petty and wanting to hurt Bruce by having him fight his own child (joke on him, Bruce could care less about that), so doing this story with Clark & Jon wouldn't only be more impactful, but it would have made Nezha more dangerous since he's possessing a Kryptonian instead of a normal 12 year old kid with no powers.

so what did you not like about worlds finest teen titans? There were a lot of dropped plot threads and bits I expected Waid to develop more (Roy and Ollie conflict, Roy, Garth and Wally never resolved their sleepover argument, Karen's reaction at the con to nearly being unmasked, Wally's parents, ect) and also the queerbaiting with garth (and his eyes changing colour halfway through???) was annoying. I thought it was cute overall but maybe I'm not familiar enough with some of the characters?

I held on to this ask because I was going to reread the miniseries to answer you more accurately, and then I decided to not put myself through that, so...hopefully my memory is accurate lol.

(I should note before I get into it that none of my quibbles are with Emanuela Lupacchino's art. She's a treasure and we're thrilled that she's here.)

But yeah, you've put the nail on the head with a lot of it. It was just terribly paced, like Waid didn't know how many issues he had or something. Aside from all the dropped threads you mentioned, it felt like the main bad guys were...pretty much hastily introduced, or at least assembled, in #5? There didn't seem to be any kind of...well, point to this miniseries. There was no theme. There was nothing Waid was trying to say, as far as I could tell, except "Fuck Roy Harper." (Oh, we'll get to that.) It wasn't an origin story for the team. It wasn't about adolescence or coming of age or learning who you are, except maybe a little bit for Garth. It was just...there.

And I want to be clear here: Mark Waid is one of my favorite comic book writers of all time. When he hits, he hits. The regular World's Finest book and his Shazam are wonderful. I just think this wasn't the right match of writer/characters, because he didn't handle these very well. Taking them one by one:

Dick: DC is fully in their "Dick the unbearable Mary Sue" era and this book is no exception. If I never see another comic where a whole team of experienced superheroes with major league powers and training stands around like incompetent jackasses until a Bat comes along and tells them what to do, it'll be too soon. I'm here to read about an ensemble book where everyone is a three-dimensional character, not The World's Most Perfect Boy and his loser sidekicks. Not only is it unfair to everyone else in the cast, it's doing a disservice to Dick, who is a much more interesting character than this book (or Tom Taylor, ahem) gives him credit for.

(There's also something very weird and inconsistent Waid is doing across his books with Dick - WF, WFTT, and BvR - where sometimes he's throwing a tantrum because he doesn't get to be a circus star with everyone looking at him all the time, and sometimes he's screaming at Roy for filming them, and both feel utterly arbitrary to me as well as contradictory.)

Donna: Donna's characterization in this was just...bizarre. I was a little worried about how Waid would handle her, since he has a tendency to turn more quote unquote "wholesome" female characters into the Mom Friend (see: his Champions run, where he tries to get away with it by having Kamala announce that she's not going to be the Mom Friend because she's the only girl on the team...and then immediately becoming the Mom Friend), and Donna's already very much a Mom Friend, and I didn't know what Mom Friend Squared would look like. But instead he went for this...Manic Pixie Nightmare Girl approach? Where she's really into bungee jumping and monster trucks? I'm not offended by it, it's just so utterly random. This isn't who Donna is? It's never been who she is? Baffling.

I am offended (I mean, mildly, but still) by the fact that she and Garth are shoehorned together in this. He's the only boy on the team she's never been romantically linked to, even in dreams/hallucinations/whatever, so completing the set feels very much like Donna's only narrative worth is in being a love interest, which...gross.

Garth: Garth probably got the best treatment of the bunch, to be honest. He was in character as the shy little weirdo he was in the Silver Age and in pretty much every flashback we've ever seen. He's smart and perceptive and bad at saying what he wants and generous towards those who have hurt him, all of which is very Garth. I have no complaints about him except the weird queerbaiting, and I'm not blaming Waid for that because from what I understand, solicits are written by editorial working off of a pitch, potentially before the comic is even written, so who knows what happened there? It might have been a stupid joke that didn't land, it might have been a story that was pitched and then a higher up vetoed it, it might have been a story Waid was going to write and then changed his mind. I'm not going to say it's his fault when I have no idea if that's true. Otherwise, I think he handled Garth well.

Wally: Wally was another one where I was just like ??? the whole time. He didn't feel like Wally, he felt like Bart. But, like, fanon's innocent child version of Bart and not the actual canon character, who has a lot more backbone. Why is he hero worshipping Dick like that? Why is he so docile? What was up with that weird line where Dick's like "you're the youngest?" Yes, historically Dick had already dropped out of college while Wally was still in high school, but otherwise they've always been portrayed as the same age. And if it's a reference to debut year, Donna's the youngest. It's such a random throwaway line dumped in at the very end for...why? Confusing me personally?

The worst, though, was whatever the hell was going on with Wally's parents. Wally's parents are not an idyllic suburban couple! They are not the Kents! Rudy West is only not classified as a supervillain because he doesn't have a costume! Even if he hadn't tried to kill Mary, sold the Earth out to alien robots, faked his own death, or run a deadly labor camp for children at this point in the timeline, he definitely hit Wally and, uh, poisoned Wally's Little League coach. I don't think Mary is as bad as some of fandom does, but she's certainly a difficult person. Wally was desperately unhappy at home as a child, which is why he latched on so hard to Barry and Iris. And Waid knows this, because he wrote a lot of that canon. If it's a retcon, it's such a strange, pointless one that makes all of them a lot less interesting. Just baffling.

Karen: I think it was a very smart choice to add Karen to the founding roster and make the team slightly more gender-balanced and not all-white. It's kind of a wasted choice, though, when she's so aggressively sidelined. All she does in this book is hang around with Mal and the support staff. She isn't looped into any of the major emotional conflicts - Garth and Donna, Dick and Roy, Roy and Wally and Garth. She's not treated as a headliner in the same way the others are, and that really sucks.

Roy: Hoo boy.

When Waid was announced as the writer of Batman vs. Robin, I was worried, because I had a feeling he didn't like Damian. I couldn't put my finger on why, it was just a feeling I had. And boy howdy, was I proved right! Damian is treated like shit in that book.

I had the same feeling with this book and Roy, and...let's just say I'm two for two, okay?

Here's the thing. I'm okay with Roy being written as kind of shitty, especially during his period of his life. Teen Titans: Year One writes him as an utter fuckboy, and I love that comic. The Mal and Karen issue of The Other History of the DC Universe retells the Bronze Age Titans era from their perspective, and it pulls absolutely no punches regarding Roy being, well, kind of an asshole...and it's right to do so, because it's drawing very directly from those 1970s comics, and he was often awful in those.

But Waid writes him as a generic 80s movie villain. He's a human popped collar. He's a stereotype of a bully. My problem isn't that I need him to never do anything wrong, it's that nothing in this book is specific to Roy, his history, or his established personality.

For instance, all of his bragging about how much money he has? He comes off like a kid who was born into wealth and has never known anything else, but that isn't true. He was at best middle class before Ollie, probably more likely working class given the economic situation on most reservations - but there's no indication that he's responding specifically to that shift in circumstances. He's just, like, Draco Malfoy with arrows. Also, Dick has a nearly identical history but none of the same issues. He even says "Roy and I have the same background but he sucks." Why is one of them a perfect angel untouched by filthy lucre, and the other is Bradley Uppercrust III?

And then there's the subplot with Ollie neglecting Roy, which fizzled out to a real wet fart of a resolution. But honestly, at no point did I know where Waid was going with that, because...well, if you know Roy's history, you know Ollie neglecting him is what leads directly to Roy getting into drugs. And like...first of all, the timeline here is off, because historically Ollie didn't ditch Roy until after he lost his money, and he still has it here. (How interesting would it have been to have Roy pretending he was still rich in addition to pretending Ollie was around?) But also, this comic ends on an "and now everything is fine!" note, but it isn't! It really, really isn't. So Ollie showing up at the end and being like "I'm here for you, buddy" doesn't ring true, because he is demonstrably not in this very comic, and we also know he won't be in the future. And Roy getting what he wants doesn't feel like a satisfying resolution either because we don't actually get to see changed behavior from him, and again, we know this won't last. (Again, TT:YO handles this dynamic very well, where we see that Ollie is an affectionate but negligent guardian who Roy is learning some very bad habits from.)

And to top it off, constantly contrasting Terrible Roy to Virtuous Dick and simultaneously pretending that Ollie was at this point a responsible guardian has the (I hope unintentional) effect of implying that Roy will eventually become an addict because he's just a bad and weak person, instead of a struggling teen who needed support and didn't get it. I would have actually preferred a story that hinted at the beginning of Roy's addiction and how he hides it from the Titans, because we've never had that story told in comics, but I don't think Waid's the one to write it. Instead we get a conflict that's out of character for Roy, a resolution that doesn't feel at all earned, and the looming threat of Roy's immediate future which Waid refuses to address.

In conclusion, this book was a mess, and you should all read Teen Titans: Year One instead.

I have a criticism and before everything, I have to made clear that I don't hate this shipp, I just don't like it bu that doesn't mean that I don't want to see more development and aknowledge more things.

Nika betrayed Damian, she gave his heart to LDM and then this last one tried to kill him or something like that, but she never received any type of consequence because of that, people didn't doubt about her, Damian didn't doubt about her and that's the point I'm annoyed.

Damian is probably one of the batboys who has more trust issues, I could understand him being excited for a relationship or trying to make friends, but not even really mentioning about Flatline actions or even doubting about her is completely oc.

Not only that, even a normal person would be weird about and nlt really that trustful to that person.

My problem is that they could create more drama, tension and doubt about her and have a good characterization of Damian but they decide that everyone would trusted her just because she changes her mind about betraying him.

Is there any changes on Damian's feelings due to her actions? Does he feel hurt? Can Nika gain their trust again?

Every character that had hurt Damian in tbe past made his way to gain Damian's trust again and some of them didn't even have the completely trust, but he trusted a girl that actually betrayed him from nothing?

They could made an introspectation about his feelings about romance, they could make an instrospectation Nika's character but everything seems to be solved so easily.

And that's bland writting. Sure, the beach episode was cute, but the drama was really fake and cringy and that's a problem with the whole run.

Maybe it was the limitation and cancellation of the run but they could explored so much.

Like, when they were in Japan, they could have more adventures and even having another plot with some new more interesting villians, but they literally just went to find Nika and came back with some lacky dialogue.

The second arc was a set up for Shadow war and BvR and I can't avoid feeling dissapointed of it.

I liked the first arc, sure it has wrongs but at least we had more things, we had Ra's and Damian's interactions, we had Rose, Goliath and the rest of the siblings in one issue. We had a more positive spotlight with Talia (not perfect but at least a more positive set up to her) and good ideas.

The second arc was just dissapointed and that hurts me a lot to say because I was really excited.

The cute child of the F-16 and Mirage v, a highly interesting lightweight multirole fighter jet that could have become the first single-engine BVR-capable fighter jet had the Israelis not been pressured by america to abandon the project, not to mention it had the potential of becoming the best single-engine multirole fighter of the 4th generation, as her design came to be from all the Israeli experience fighting with their arab neighbors, but ala, geopolitics killed her...

At least the design lives on as the Chinese J-10.

What was your original goal for this course?

My original goal for IEN551 Business Venture Research class is to get more productive on my research for my future startup business with online therapy industry. My goal is to come up a better system using the latest technology for my online therapy business such as an app, online service using text, email, mobile phone and video chat to serve our patients. Also, I needed more insights on how I could hire licensed therapists and psychiatrists.

How was the goal met by the course?

The goal was met by the course, IEN551 Business Venture Research because I learned plenty from our lectures that included much information from professional sources from journals, videos, and books. I have so much information to have a good start on my research at the end of my IEMS program. Also, I gathered all my sources that I have found so far during my IEMS program, which I am grateful for relearning my past business and management knowledge from my several undergraduate degrees. I can finally go back to the administration professions and get salary instead of my lower wages from my data entry and clerical jobs.

After I complete my IEMS program, I will continue to pursue my careers in technology. I missed my opportunity to complete my past Bachelor of E-Business. Unfortunately, I had to restart my computer credits with 60 credits instead of 24 more credits to graduate at the turn of the century. The reason for changing our curriculum was that we had to learn new Internet coding, which we did not cover during the late 1990s while I was enrolled on BS E-Business program at University of Phoenix. I ended up completing my 24 credits to graduate with BS in Management.

The only logical way of getting to my Master’s degree is to take the IEMS program with Full Sail University instead of Master’s in Game Design. I am now back in track with my business knowledge and learning more about being an Innovative Entrepreneur with technology. I can use my creative thinking, which I have been craving since I was in high school. My future goals were to become a computer animator, cinematographer, photographer, mechanical drafting with designs, game design, etc. Someday, I can come up with many applications involving therapy, which I can apply my knowledge from degrees in Psychology and Psychiatrist in the future. Online therapy is my challenge for a startup or any other design professions such as game design, interior design, mechanical drafting design, computer animation design related in the movie industry, and game design.

What have you learned from this course? Mention at least 4 research resources you found useful.

The most useful part of our class that I found very useful was the SmartStart Canvas, which we got more into depth when we used it as a product planning tool to start a business. We learned about the SmartStart Canvas last month, which is based on the Business Model Canvas used mostly in the Lean Startup process. We used the SmartStart Canvas for this class as a one-page summation of our preliminary product and business idea. Our class emphasized that the SmartStart Canvas helps to focus on those things that are most important during early stages of new business planning. I found it very useful to figure out what I must work on with my online therapy startup in the future.

There were some things that stood out to me about being a startup founder from our reading assignments, and the most important lessons they learned. Koch (2020) reported that Steve Jobs the founder of Apple was fired on 1985, sold his 11% Apple shares and was the one who created the Macintosh. Steve Jobs turned setbacks, which he failed many of his startups into success. Jobs’ next startup was NeXT, a computer with new great features which many college students buy, but it failed in the market due to its expensive price (Koch, 2020). Steve Jobs was the biggest investor of Pixar, and he made a Pixar Image Computer sold to many customers for animators and graphic designers (Koch, 2020). Jobs’ biggest customer was Disney, which needed his computer and software to make animated movies (Koch, 2020). The price of Pixar’s products was too expensive, and Steve Jobs lost $50 million (Koch, 2020). Then, in 1991 when the Toy Story movie became a box office hit, Steve Job made $1.2 billion of his Pixar’s shares (Koch, 2020). Steve Job persuaded for Apple to buy his NeXT company (Koch, 2020). On 1997, Apple was going through bankruptcy and the board beg Jobs to become CEO again (Koch, 2020).

According to Tim Berry (2009), bootstrapping, which is using your own money without investors as partners is underrated. It is a great accomplishment to own your own business outright, but it took them longer and became more difficult to make their business grow (Berry, 2009). Their family business is underrated, had some special problems and special advantages, but overall, it seems a good ending (Berry, 2009).

Other 90% startups fail like Nikki Durkin’s 99dresses, which won many battles but lost her business (Durkin, 2014). “Starting over had lack of progress, and the product she promised her investors just wasn’t working” (Durkin, pg. 1, 2014).

Nikki’s failures came from not trusting her co-founder, not knowing the huge risks of starting her retail business, had no idea what startup means, not using failure as a learning experience, lack of leadership skills, and competitors won against her trading cheaper fast fashion (Durkin, 2014). She made the wrong decision because fast fashion is difficult to re-sell for cash, and her competition focused on buying and selling designer fashion (Durkin, 2014). Also, her luck and timing failed and raising more money was what she didn’t have faith anymore, and her lesson was to get into a startup business that she believes and feel comfortable in (Durkin, 2014). She focused more about making money and ignored the rest of her business strategies. Nikki Dunkin’s startup business was pure luck but lack smart business decisions. She stopped her business, and she felt more successful going home and start working on new ideas.

Also, our class provided us videos of BetaList interviews about stories behind the startups for inspiration (“BetaList Interviews,” 2024).

“These videos showed many new startups with many of their brands and services that were created through their incredible creative thinking. Business ideas that hardly come into mind are many innovations for the latest technology industries. There is a software engineer who has a startup of a community where entrepreneurial technologist team up to innovate quality ideas. A project tracking startup shares progress of visualize project and help them track to team, clients, investors, or the world. Another good startup is a marketplace that brings together blog owners looking for unique content and allows writers to write about their interests. A startup has a new web service to keep your friends and family in the loop while traveling. There are startups that focus on giving service for accessibility, and a good example is to provide customers an easy way to create forms and surveys for the mobile phone” (pg.1).

How will you apply the material learned in the course personally or professionally?

The material I learned in the course that I will apply personally or professionally are the gained knowledge I learned from our research about startup businesses. It is giving me a further knowledge of having my own business in technology, which I have been interested since I was in high school. The advantage of today’s technology has incorporated all the computer, design, and business knowledge along with my IEMS program. This course, IEM551 Business Venture Research is a blessing because it will give an idea on where I am going to take my new master’s degree in technology. Coming up with many innovations would be in my future. Thanks to the knowledge I gained from my research and class materials from this class.

Rafale 'slaughtered' by the Pakistani JF-17 Thunder during exercise in Turkey?

An account of how JF-17 "slaughtered" the Rafale fighters belonging to the Qatar Air Force during a war exercise in Turkey may have raised Pakistan's morale.

In June 2021, an air exercise involving air forces from Turkey, Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Qatar called "Anatolian Eagle 2021" took place at a Turkish Air Force base in a coastal city of Konya, Turkey. In the exercise, an alleged victory of the Pakistani JF-17 fighters over the Rafales of Qatar was announced.

Among the aircraft participating in the exercise were the Turkish F-16s, the JF-17 'Thunder' Block II of Pakistan, the four new Rafale jets from Qatar and the MiG-29 'Fulcrum' and Su-25 'Frogfoot' combat jets from Azerbaijan, which had already seen action in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

NATO, of which Turkey is a member, also sends an E-3A AWACS aircraft.

Several Turkish media reported that Malaysia sent officers from its air force to the exercise as observers.

The "Anatolian Eagle" exercise is an annual training that aims to improve the capabilities and understanding between the air forces of the participating countries through the execution of various tactics that simulate air combat scenarios.

Systems such as the Post-Mission Analysis System and the Air Combat Maneuver System (ACMI) were also used in the exercise "Anatolian Eagle 2021".

Not much is known about the air exercise, but some military analysts, claiming to have inside information about the "Anatolian Eagle 2021", suggested that the exercise provided an opportunity for the Pakistan Air Force to test the real capabilities of its JF-17 "Thunder" aircraft in air combat simulations, especially against the Qatar Air Force's Dassault Rafale aircraft, which is also used by the Indian Air Force.

In addition to facing Rafale aircraft, the JF-17, which was developed in collaboration with China, can also face MiG-29 aircraft brought by the Azerbaijan Air Force during the Anatolian Eagle exercise.

According to reports from defense analysts with inside information about the exercise, the "mortality rate" of JF-17 aircraft against Qatari Rafale aircraft was 6:2, which means that Pakistan's JF-17 Block II aircraft "slaughtered" Qatar's Rafales six times compared to only two losses in the air in combat simulations during the exercise.

This conclusion was made by defense analysts based on unconfirmed sources. Whether the JF-17 Thunder aircraft managed to "slaughter" much more advanced and modern Rafale aircraft in Turkish exercise is still a matter of debate.

An IAF expert, although he admits that no aircraft is "invincible", said this week that it all comes down to tactics. "The JF-17 has no technological advantage over the Rafale - nothing, nothing," said the veteran IAF test pilot, who flew in Rafale fighters, while asking to remain anonymous.

As the report does not mention details of the aforementioned combat, it is difficult to speculate now, after almost two years. "Anyway, considering a BVR battle scenario, the Rafale will take away the impact of the JF-17 due to its avionics and much superior weapons. In dogfight visual combat, every pilot can have a chance and claim a 'slaughter'.

"These 'slaughter' are difficult to prove on the ground due to the inherently different combat recording systems in the Rafale and JF-17. I feel like it's just a story invented to score points against the IAF," said another retired IAF officer.

The Director General of the Center for Air Power Studies (CAPS), Air Marshal Anil Chopra (retired), said in an article comparing the JF-17 and the Rafale: "Rafale is a game changer in the region, and any comparison with an older generation JF-17 is flawed. Rafale is adding a significant impact to IAF's operational capacity and will help India dominate the Indian Area of Responsibility (AOR) in the regions of South Asia and the Indian Ocean."

It is important to approach the statements of Pakistani defense analysts with caution, as they can potentially be part of Pakistan's psychological war strategy to undermine the morale of the Indian Air Force, which uses Rafale manufactured by the French company Dassault Aviation.

There is also the possibility that the positive statements about the "excellent performance of the JF-17 Thunder" are probably a form of "marketing" using internal sources to promote the capabilities of aircraft manufactured in Pakistan and China.

However, there is also the possibility that the information provided by these sources is accurate.

US & Iranian F-14A differences

Because of limited information available here in the west about Iranian F-14s I wanted to make a detailed post about what the differences were between F-14s built for the US Navy and those built for Iran as most information is often wrong, mentioning the Iranian cats we’re grossly downgraded compared to their US counterparts so this is the differences between the two operator’s F-14As when they were built in the 1970s:

External differences

1. The first and most obvious is the camouflage with US Navy aircraft finished in high visibility grey and white

Whilst Iranian examples were finished in “Asia Minor” three tone desert camouflage consisting of tan, brown, green and grey.

2. The panel covering the refuelling probe was removed at the request of Iran as they were worried the panel would be caught by airflow and fall off, which could be damaging in flight.

3. Iranian cats never used any chin pods. Grumman tried hard to convince the Iranians to adopt the AN/ALR-23 infra-red scanner/tracker system although it was never adopted as Iranian personnel felt it offered very limited information to the pilots (interestingly the very first F-14 built for Iran is seen carrying the system whilst under flight tests in the US)

However because of their experience with the TISEO system used on their late build F-4E phantoms they decided they would adopt the Northrop AXX-1 TCS once the system became available, however by the time it was available the US had already cut ties to Iran and so to this day Iranian F-14As only have a position light under the radome

Meanwhile the TCS system became widely adopted for US Tomcats so it’s a distinctive difference.

4. US F-14 first used the AIM-9G/H version of the Sidewinder with straight fins (then the L/M version)

Whilst as with the F-5s and F-4s the Iranians used the AIM-9P with cranked fins

The AIM-7 sparrow medium range missile was the same E-4 variant used with the AWG-9 radar on both countries’ F-14s however there were slight differences with the F-14’s main armament: the AIM-54A Phoenix long range missile

Externally the Phoenix looked exactly the same for both US and Iranian Tomcats however in one of the few cases of downgrading, Iran’s AIM-54s had their ECCM capabilities reduced as to ensure they could not defeat US aircraft and their ECM systems in a fight, but they still remained highly effective weapons.

5. Iranian cockpits were fitted with USAF style seat harness locks, diluter-demand oxygen system and masks which Iranian pilots considered more comfortable than US Navy equipment.

Internals

6. US Navy F-14s were initially fitted with the TF30-412 engines which would prove to be incredibly unreliable and very stall prone, Iranian Jets were fitted with the updated TF30-414 to help with the stall issue, although they remained tempramental. Eventually the US cats were also updated to the 414 standard and then the GE-110, Iranian cats soldier on with the TF30s to this day.

7. The F-14s were fitted with a incredible system called the APX-81-M1E IFF interrogator. This highly secretive system was used to detect enemy aircraft BVR by interrogating the IFF codes of other aircraft and provide accurate airspeed and range of the aircraft without the use of the radar, both US and Iranian cats received this equipment however in another case of slight downgrading Iranian Tomcat’s IFF interrogator systems were modified to only detect IFF codes of Soviet built aircraft, not allowing them to be able to use the system against western aircraft.

8. Speaking of the AWG-9, the heart of the F-14 the systems remaind mostly the same for both aircraft, however in one more slight degrade the Iranian’s AWG-9 were modified to counter jamming slower by changing the speed of which the system could jump wave-lengths by 1/100th of a second. This was was done politically as it meant Grumman could tell the US congress that the systems sold to Iran were less capable than American systems to silence those opposing the sale of F-14s to Iran.

9. Iranian Tomcats had some avionics removed such as the AN/ARA-62 instrument landing system as Iran obviously wasn’t using their cats on aircraft carriers. They also lacked the KIT-1A, KIR-1A and KY-28 coding/decoding equipment.

And that’s all the differences applied by Grumman to US and Iranian Tomcats when they were built in the 70s. So whilst the Persian cat had some systems slightly downgraded, it remained almost as highly capable as it’s US counterpart and certainly at the time of its introduction to Iran in the 70s it was the most dominant fighter available in the Middle East, only F-15 eagles supplied to Israel and Saudi Arabia and the mirage F.1s later supplied to Iraq could come close but it remaind a deadly aircraft in the Middle East. These changes mentioned are from when they were built together at Grumman, obviously since then US Tomcats were updated to B and later D models before their retirement in 2006

Whilst Iranian cats have stayed mostly the same, although now they are attempting to bring them up to modern standards with its upgraded F-14A-M (M=modernised)

But that’s my guide to hopefully help understand what the differences were when the Tomcats were built for both countries!

Notes on “Crisis in Mid-Life! & Other Stories” Issue 1

So I had the pleasure of reading this comic and Issue 2 yesterday (and by yesterday, I mean the day I started drafting this post) after I returned from the mall. Honestly, I was expecting them to arrive later. Literally, as I drove out, I noticed a flat package on my front porch, backed up, pulled back into my driveway, and kept them in the car until I got home. I was excited to read them and was not disappointed.

There are two variant covers you can buy for each issue and I choose Gurihirus covers because I found them far more appealing. J Bones variations reminded me of the Boom Studios comics.

Each issue has three little stories. Two continue through other issues and one is a small adventure with Jack-Jack.

Anyway, here we go.

Crisis in Mid-Life! Part One

First, I’d like to say that I LOVE Gurihirus art style. By far my favorite and the characters look adorable. 

We begin at a black and white flashback with young Mr. Incredible.

He’s performing the classic ‘hit a mode of water transportation with a champagne bottle’ bit.

It was the nations first ‘Swordfish-Class Nuclear Submarine’ at Munciburg Naval Base*

A piece of scaffolding crumbles and the submarine starts to fall.

Mr. Incredible is able to hold the vessel up until everyone is able to get away, then he is able to place it down without sustaining any damage.

This moment is remembered in history as his “Greatest feat of strength.”* 

Fast forward back to the swinging sixties.

The lady interviewing Mr. Incredible says she was in Kindergarten when that happened.

Mr. Incredible is back to do the same thing basically but to a ‘Sunfish-Class Submarine’

I had to look up ‘sunfish’. Seriously. Here’s what they look like.

Google it and you’ll find weirder pictures.

When the reporter, Brenda, asks Mr. Incredible if it feels like old times to be back again, he answers, “It’s really about our brave men and women who serve on these submarines.”

Mr. Incredible is about to begin, when the ceremony is interrupted by Bomb Voyage.

Has Bomb Voyage not aged at all or is his makeup covering his wrinkles? He looks the same.

Oh, but he can speak English now. Guess they didn’t want to squeeze subtitles into the bubbles.

He blows up the support of the submarine, and basically, history repeats itself. 

Mr. Incredible catches it. However, he feels outweighed. He is unable to wait for civilians to run so he can put it down. It falls on him.

He’s under there for ten minutes before bff Frozone comes to his rescue.

Bomb Voyage got away. Again.

“Typical of his diabolical escape plans. He knew I’d catch the sub and save those people instead of chasing him. He must also have known this model’s heavier than the last one.”

No one got hurt, which is good.

The submarine captain tells Mr. Incredible the Sunfish-Class Submarines are three tons lighter than the Swordfish.

Reporter Brenda runs back up to Mr. I and goes, “Is your age finally catching up with you?”

Mr. Incredible claims he’s in the prime of his life! 

Frozone is Mr. I’s best bro and gently pulls him away from an uncomfortable interview by claiming there could have been other reasons why he couldn’t hold the submarine up.

He also tells his bro, “They’ll forget about this in a few days.”

Low and behold, guess what makes the front page of Munciburg Herald.

‘Is It Time For Mr. Incredible To Hang Up The Tights?’

Supers were just made legal again and poor Mr. Incredibles power may be declining.

Bob and Helen are at the Nation Supers Agency Medical Center.

Apparently, the NSA has a clinic/hospital for superheroes only, as I had believed they did.*

And Bob and Helen are there in civilian clothes, no masks, so it doesn’t look like they need to suit up to get examined.*

Helen is making him go to make sure he’s not sick. Bob thinks they’re wasting their time.

Doctor tells him he’s in good health.

“See Helen?”

“You’re aging though.” says the doctor. “You can’t expect to do everything you could in your prime.”

“But I’m in my prime right now!”

Helen is just like

The doctor tells Bob he’s not in his physical prime.

Bob is like

Back at home, Helen is trying to reassure him that he’s not all washed up, all while telling Dash not to run around the table, making sure Violet remembers her backpack, Dash remembers his jacket, and telling Jack-Jack diapers don’t go on heads. 

“You don’t need to qui-- VIOLET! YOUR BACKPACK!”

Bob decides to see Rick because he might have dealt with aging superheroes before.

Ricks is back with the NSA, out of retirement. Shortest retirement tbh.*

“I’m not in the best shape either,” he says. “But I’m wiser.”

He shows Bob a framed picture of his son, Rick Junior.

That’s right. Dicker has a son and his name is Rick Junior. He even has his fathers nose.* 

Junior graduated from the Academy (what academy you ask, I don’t know) with Honors.

“I look at him and I know I’ve passed on my knowledge... He’s my legacy and that makes it all worth it.”

Lightbulb goes off in Bobs head as he remembers he’s got three legacies.

Back at the Parr home, Dash is making Violets room messy after she just cleaned it.

Her walls and drawers are white. Her bedsheets are purple. She’s got clothes, books, a bag of chips, and some stuffed animals including a bunny which I bet is named Mr. Skipperdoo. 

Violet traps him in a force field and demands he cleans her room back up.

Pride leader Bob steps in.

Instead of telling Dash to clean up Violets room, he’s like, “You’re doing it all wrong. You want to mess up someone's room so they’ll have to clean it, mess it up like they would.

Uh... what the hell Bob. Dash is gonna start doing that now.

Then Bob advices Violet not to step on clothes when she’s invisible or people can see the indents of her feet.

Violets got Captain America socks. I think she’s low-key a fan.

The kids are all, 

Downstairs for family bonding time.

“Experience is the difference between a good hero and a great one.”

Basically, he tells the kids he’s gonna start training them and they’re pumped.

Helen is a bit concerned though.

Violet tells her it’s a family bonding experience. Dash adds that she mentioned how important it is to learn to use powers responsibly. 

Helen gives in, thinking in the end that it’s not a super bad idea as long as Bob behaves, but she’s still a little worried.

Bedtime Story Part One

When Jack-Jack shapeshifts after dinner, his tummy gets upset.*

He’s in his demon form jumping on Bobs bed. Bob says he’ll tell him a bedtime story if he behaves.

Jack-Jack becomes a baby again.

Bob goes into Story Mode. “This is the tale of the hero who saved the rest of the heroes.”

Superheroes in the Glory Days had an annual conference called “The Summer Crossover” and it was held at this swanky hotel called the Chez swank Hotel.*

It’s across the Metroville Bridge.

“We’d have seminars on subjects like super/civilian balance, secret hideout feng shui, and escaping the deathtraps in your own mind.”

The main villain of this story is Baron Von Ruthless. We get to see a little of him.

So Big BVR was in a giant robot with lasers that sucked all the powers out of the supers except one. Any guesses who?

Bob mentions here that there’s a super named ‘Junior Sidekick’.

Bob claims he took out the giant robot with one punch.

Dash and Violet barge in, calling bs on their dads claims.

The kids start pointing out what’s wrong with his story/

Bob goes, ‘Ok, so I left out some parts. You think you can handle the real thing?’

“Could be a scam to trick us into some forced family bonding time...” says Violet, still loaded with sass.

The kids take their place on the bed to listen to dads story.

A Relaxing Day at the Park

This is the Jack-Jack story.

So, as we all know, the Parrs live in a nice house. Unsurprisingly, there’s a nice children's playground nearby.

Bob puts Jack-Jack in the sandbox then sits on the bench to chill.

JJ is playing in the sand and having such fun when he sees an animatronic turtle with a bunch of balloons. There’s a baby about as big as he is, trying to get these balloons but he can’t reach.

So the baby resorts to crying.

Jack-Jack sees the turtle as a bad guy that stole the balloons and decided he must take action!

His laser eyes blow up the turtle and somehow, the balloons don’t float away. JJ gives them to his new pal.

Bob only closed his eyes for a second and Jack-Jack had wandered off.

He sees the blown up turtle and goes, ‘Yikes. We’re not coming back here.’

Hmmm, not sure if it counts, so totally fine if you don't want to talk about it, but what do you think the sacrifice Damian will apparently make in Batman vs Robin #5 will be? And what would you want it to be ideally? I'm kinda struggling to come up with something that I wouldn't dislike.

We're still nowhere close to finishing this event, but since nothing in March's solicitations has mentioned "mourning" Damian or searching for him, then I think it would be safe to assume that he might not die or go missing by the end, at least not permanently.

Yeah, you might say that they didn't mention it because they didn't want to spoil it, but this IS DC, they constantly spoil stuff in their Solitics (hell both BvR and LP have been spoiled by them for example)

I personally don't think Damian deserves to sacrifice anything, DC has been dragging his character through mud for years now, but I guess if he HAD to sacrifice something then at least have it be an impressive/heroic sacrifice that saves everyone and whose consequences immediately get fixed afterward.

Maybe he sacrifices himself by being the one that locks Nezha and/or his son in that cave (or maybe another place similar to it, since the cave might have been destroyed by this point), similar to what Superman did in WF to make everything go full circle in this Nezha saga then he somehow outsmarts them and find away to get out?

#then again I don't see DC doing this #maybe he would shield Bruce from an attack to mirror how Bruce shielded him from an attack in #issue 4 #but he barley survive and they use him being injured as an excuse to bench his character #that sounds more like something DC would do

Governor lays foundation of new Durga Bhawan

JAMMU: Governor Satya Pal Malik, Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, laid the foundation stone for reconstruction of Durga Bhawan in the Bhawan area to add additional facilities for meeting the accommodation needs of the pilgrims who visit the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji. The Governor electronically laid the foundation and launched the work on this 5-storey building on the sidelines of the 64th meeting of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board held under his chairmanship at the Raj Bhavan here. Among those present on the occasion were H. H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Dr. Ashok Bhan, K. B. Kachru, K. K. Sharma, Justice (Retd) Permod Kohli, Maj. Gen. (Retd) Shiv Kumar Sharma and Vijay Dhar, all Board Members; and BVR Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary; Umang Narula, Principal Secretary to the Governor;  Simrandeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board; Vivek Verma, Additional Chief Executive Officer; Mr. M. M. Gupta, Chief Engineer of the Shrine Board and Dr. (Brig) M. M. Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer, SMVDNSH, Kakryal. The building with a plinth area of 14,800 sft and covered area of 60,000 sft is estimated to cost Rs. 50 crore and will provide free accommodation facilities to around 4000 pilgrims every day by maximising space utilisation which will significantly enlarge the logistical framework for the pilgrims in the Bhawan area. The new Durga Bhawan will have adequate facilities such as lockers, toilets, blankets, ready to eat snacks and beverages as well as the provision of 4 elevators for vertical circulation. This building will be earthquake resistant. The top terrace of the building will be at the level of the existing track of Bhawan which will be covered with an aesthetically designed roof as an additional resting place. This building will be the largest of the existing buildings at Bhawan and will be almost twice the size of the old Durga Bhawan. The provision of separate exit track through this building has been kept as per approved Master Plan which will be further connected to elevators/escalators for the convenience of yatris. The reconstruction of Durga Bhawan is part of the approved Master Plan of Bhawan area which has been got prepared by the Shrine Board for Bhawan and the Extended Shrine Area from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. The construction of Durga Bhawan happens to be one of the four works of Master Plan Phase-I for 2021. It is pertinent to mention that the Master Plan seeks to achieve the target of ensuring maximum free of cost accommodation for yatris by 2031. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor directed the CEO of the Shrine Board to ensure speedy completion of new Durga Bhawan so that the pilgrims start benefitting from this facility at the earliest. He also asked for ensuring timely implementation of the various components of the Master Plan for establishing infrastructural facilities for the visiting pilgrims in a planned and holistic manner.
