Once you’d finally come to settle on the fact you were pregnant you did the first thing you thought to do, leave.

You’d been gone for three days when the ducks landed back in California after their Canadian roadie.

Mason hadn’t heard from you for days, he was worried to no end. When he got back to your apartment which appeared to not be lived in days he felt worse.

“Where is your sister?” Is the first thing he asked when he barged through Trevor’s door.

Trevor frowned “At your apartment?”

“She’s not there! She should be there and she’s not picking up the phone-“

Trevor’s wife put her hand on Mason’s back to stop him ranting “Mason, I’m sure she’s ok”

“I just haven’t spoken to her and-“

He was cut off by one of the twins running into the room waving around Trevor’s phone on speaker

“Daddy! Daddy! Uncle griff is on the phone” Sasha shouts, holding it up to Trevor

“Griff what’s up? Have you heard from-“

“Dude! Y/N has been at mom and dads for like two days and Ava says she’s been moping around right? I came home today and guess what? She’s pregnant! That buddy of yours-“

Everyone’s eyes were wide and Mason shouts “She’s what?!”

Trevor hissed lowly “Mason’s here, Griff… and you’re on speaker”

Mason is half smiling and half worried, turning to leave the house. When he’s in the car he calls you multiple times always receiving your voicemail.

When he gets your voicemail again he sighs, waiting for the beep with his head rested against the steering wheel

"hey baby, it's me. please just come home, okay? I'm not mad, I'm not angry l'm just worried about you and the baby! just come talk to me.

I wanna listen angel, i wanna hold you... come home please I love you"

He hangs up and looks at his lockscreen, the picture of you smiling back at him “I’m gonna be a dad” he mumbles to himself “with the most perfect girl, fuck me i’m lucky”

He went the rest of the night constantly checking his phone for any sign of life from you. To no avail, at around two in the morning he managed to fall asleep only to be woken by the doorbell at four.

Groggily, he trudged down to the stairs ready to shout at whoever dared to wake him up at this time of night.

When he opened the door ready to shout he saw you cuddling into yourself with a sad and regretful.

He didn’t let you say anything before pulling you into his arms, squeezing you a little tighter than usual.

“Don’t you ever leave me again” he mumbled, tears landing on your hair “You scared the life of our me, I can’t lose you”

You clutch his hoodie desperately “Mase, I’m so scared”

“Hey, hey when have I not had your back babe? We get through this… all three of us”

Watching Force, Book, Mos, Bank and Noeul traipse around Rome is orders of magnitude worse than watching the BOC boys and ZeeNuNew gallivant through California because I don't give a shit about California. My heart has belonged to Rome since September 1998 and every moment I'm not there is a sad moment. The only place I love more than my home city is Rome. I ache for Rome. Seeing Rome on film and on phone is always torture, but seeing the man on my lockscreen (you can guess which one is the one) in Rome is the most exquisite form of torture I could ever imagine.

haikyuu phone lockscreen headcanons because no one is stopping me:

hinata: the picture of the karasuno first years that we see in the manga; it's the only photo of the four of them they've ever taken that hasn't come out unbearably blurry

bokuto: a group photo of the fukurodani volleyball club centered on a black background (konoha did the editing-- read: put the photo on a black rectangle then saved it as a jpeg-- and made bokuto pay him 600 yen for his services)

kageyama: volleyball patterned wallpaper he downloaded off of pixabay. it's blurry and pixelated and he loves it. he also usually has too many notifications (mostly from the karasuno groupchat, which remains active even years later) to really be thinking about what his lockscreen looks like

akaashi: a photo of the fukurodani third years that's been edited with one of those apps to look like a general abstract watercolor painting (he doesn't want anyone to know that they're his lockscreen, so he edited the photo to make it just colors and thus "subtle." everyone on fukurodani is WELL aware of the truth.)

kuroo: collage of photos of his friends and family (not a single one of these photos is particularly flattering to anyone, but kuroo loves them all and refuses to switch any of them no matter how much people complain)

oikawa: a picture of him and iwaizumi together on a california beach at sunset; it's his favorite picture of the two of them, and he looks at it whenever he's (a) missing iwaizumi particularly much or (b) feeling really lonely and/or homesick

Okay, tell us about your fave jellies specifically! I'd love to learn more!

If I'm going to be honest, most of my jellyfish knowledge sorta floats around aimlessly unless I'm looking for something specific, but I am all for telling a few of my favourite jellyfish facts! (For the record, my favourite jellyfish is the Upside-down jellyfish- specifically the Cassiopea andromeda :>)

Anyway I'm done with the beginning ramble now, I'll just get started :)

Scientists have only begun to tag jellyfish rather recently, beginning near the start of the century (if memory serves me right). Lots have been discovered through this, such as their daily migration patterns and whatnot

Though, what does interest me the most is the fact that scientists have discovered that the box jellyfish (likely the C. fleckeri, or the poster child of venemous jellyfish) "sleep" (or at least, lie motionless on the sea floor at nighttime). It's very funny, and a behaviour I believe to be shared with all box jellies of the Chironex genus (though... who knows? Maybe it might be typical box jellyfish behaviour)

What is proven is that Upside Down jellyfish do, in fact, sleep! This particular study also showed that melatonin works on Upside Down jellyfish as well... which is pretty neat I think.

If you'd like to preserve a jellyfish in liquid, a 5-10% formalin solution will do (or a 70% alcohol solution). The first reply in this thread is very helpful, actually! (though I doubt anyone here is interested in liquid preservation)

Another thread suggested using Magnesium Chloride to kill (oof) and fix jellyfish for pictures and then transfer(?) to a solution of alcohol or formalin.

The Compass Jellyfish is a sequential hermaphrodite, being born functionally male and then developing into a female upon maturity!

The Black Sea Nettle (C. achylos) and Purple Striped Sea Nettle (C. colorata) happen to be very close genetically :D! I suppose they are found roaming similar areas (around the mid to southern coast of California and Upper Mexico), so it makes sense.

They are also my favourite sea nettles and after realizing that the Monterey Bay Aquarium had wallpapers of them, they have swiftly replaced the subway bosses as my lockscreen :)

Jellyfish in the wild have slow metabolisms, so they can actually tolerate the numerous "dead zones" in the ocean for quite a while (dead zones being areas that algae and the like have completely sucked the oxygen out of).

One of these jellies is the Egg Yolk jelly, which often frequents these areas during the day (when competition is high)

The black sea nettle has "internal anchoring structures" that make it suited to swim through high currents without damage, though when I tried to look for that "internal anchoring structure" online I found nothing. Consequently, the author of my first jellyfish book, Lisa-Ann Gershwin, happened to be one of the biologists that described the species in 1996(?), so good for her :)

Ok, last bullet point before I run everyone ragged with jellyfish facts... Moon jellyfish are generally difficult to differentiate between species but here are a few distinguishing characteristics:

The A. labiata, sometimes referred to the Pacific Moon Jellyfish, may have 16 scallops (curves at the edge of their bell), while the A. aurita (or the posterchild of all moon jellies) tend to have 8. (This method may be imperfect, though. Or I might just be bad at counting).

The A. limbata has beautiful distinguishing brown bands at the edge of its bell, and generally resides in Arctic waters. Some of its polyps attached to pieces of trash were believed to be found at the coast of Northern Japan in the Spring and Summer of 2014, which is really interesting....

Anyway! That ramble ran for a while, ehehe... It's almost been an hour since I sat down and wrote all of this, hopefully you've learned something!

WWDC 2023: A Look at the New Features for Developers

Apple's upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference is anticipated to be one of its most significant events yet, as the company may finally unveil its mixed reality headset after years of speculation and leaked information. Alma and Maya led the team in a series of warmups as Stede stood by the sidelines, watching them. He was watching, but the entirety of his attention was on his periphery, where he could see Ed approaching from a distance.

“Morning, Mr. Bonnet,” Ed cheered and graciously accepted the waiting coffee cup Stede had just as graciously brought him, “y’know one of these days, I’ll have to pay you back for the coffee.”

“Oh, Ed, please,” Stede took a sip, “it’s hardly a dent in my wallet.”

“Oh I didn’t mean monetarily,” Ed winked and Stede blushed and Ed cataloged it as a Level 2, which was perfect, “got a good team here. Alma really is an amazing captain, Stede,” he smiled at the group as they did hamstring stretches, “you should be very proud.”

“I am,” Stede smiled with him, both living in a moment of admiration. A buzz from Stede’s phone interrupted them and for once, Ed had caught sight of his lockscreen. 

“I knew it!” He cheered, gesturing to Stede’s phone with his takeout cup.

“Knew what?” Stede asked, putting the phone back in his pocket.

“Your lockscreen,” he grinned, “I know what it’s from.”

“Oh yeah?” Stede blushed deeper (threatening a Level 3) — the last thing he wanted was to be immediately uncool in the presence of the coolest person he knew. One thing he knew for certain in his recent time in the queer Southern California dating pool, was that The Lord of the Rings was not cool. Or sexy. Or a casual conversation topic to be discussed with someone you fancied. He gave an awkward smile, “I’m a big tree fan,” was his excuse. 

Bonnet. C’mon. “I’m a big tree fan?” Fucking Christ, do better. 

“No, no,” Ed smiled, “it’s the Tree of Gondor, isn’t it? ‘There flowed a white tree, and that was for Gondor, but Seven Stars were about it’,” Ed recited perfectly.

Oh fuck— shit, fuck, goddammit. If he was crushing before, he was falling head over heels at that moment. Head over cleats, even.
