Koinobori, or carp streamers in Japanese are carp-shaped windsocks traditionally flown in Japan to celebrate Tango no sekku, a traditional event which is now designated as Children’s Day. Children's Day (子供の日, Kodomo no hi) by Web Japan
On May 5th, families celebrate the healthy growth and happiness of children and fly huge carp streamers called こいのぼり / Koinobori outside the house and display dolls of famous warriors and other heroes.
Koinobori or “carp climbing” represent strength and resilience. The carp is believed to be one of the most toughest fish. A carp climbing the waterfall denotes to achieve success through effort.
The carp streamers may have been inspired by the banners that Samurai used to identify themselves on the battlefield, but now come. in a set with different colours representing various family members.
