My piece for @bambeptin's Generator Rex art telephone: promises!
I did many things differently here from how I usually work (the lineless color styling and many texture gradients + layout), so this was a lot of fun! Thank you for organizing this art telephone, Bamboo! The piece before me by Bean @forestryfae was so impressive in my mind, I had to find a way to represent everything in that, as well as make my own take on it and the whole piece became a fun challenge.
Previews, WIPS and close-ups below under the cut!

I enjoyed working and finishing this a lot, so looking forward to finding more art telephone's and other challenges to take part in again one day :)
Rex Salazar is truly the most character ever. He is an amnesiac 16 year old growing up in a government facility (that tried to/does experiment on him). He is a child soldier. He was the second son of the scientists who began the apocalypse in Mexico. He was a homeless criminal in Hong Kong. He got his powers after getting severely injured as a child and now can talk to machines and grow nanites and absorb them. He is the only cure for the apocalypse his parents helped create. His support system is comprised of a doctor with 3 PhD鈥檚 and the sixth most dangerous man in the world. He quite literally lived in an empty prison cell until he was needed to fight for years. When he loses his memories each time he wakes up asking for family in Spanish but has no idea who they are or even who he is. He only loses his memory when he鈥檚 about to die. Nobody knows how many times that鈥檚 been. He鈥檚 treated like a monster. He likes trigonometry. His older brother is actively trying to kill him most of the time. He鈥檚 the world鈥檚 only hope, but he鈥檚 also a teenager who loves to play basketball and watch telenovelas and go to school like other kids.
