She sat comfortably on one of the plush couches in the library. Her coffee mug clutched between her hands, she was trying to absorb the heat from the ceramic mug. The bunker was cold in the mornings, the fans above that pulled fresh air in were noticeable in the quiet of the morning.
Her morning tea brought her the heat she needed to get ready for the day. Her brothers had left her in a hurry last night after getting a frantic call from Castiel telling them the angels fell and he lost his grace. She wanted to go but her brothers said it would be best if she stayed home and manned the phone, hunters would be calling for assistance and she was best to answer their calls.
Her job as a hunter was picking up for Bobby, she would spend days on end researching with him, learning from him, she took over for him when he passed. Her heart clenched thinking back to the elder hunter she viewed as a father.
Her brothers had called an hour ago to tell her they would be home soon and they had her angel in tow. Well he wasn’t an angel anymore she figured. Losing his grace meant he was pretty much human now.
The bunker door banged open, making her jump as the peaceful quiet was shattered by the sound of heavy boots and grunts as three of the most important men in her life made their way to where she was curled up. One of Dean's flannels covered most of her upper body, the sleeves rolled up. She never slept well alone so she would wear one of Dean’s flannels and she would use Sam's blanket and pillow that Castiel would use during the night as she slept next to him. She would surround herself in their safety.
She looked at her brothers, Dean was the first down the stairs he gave her a grim look, she searched his face for something to indicate what she should be prepared for. He gave her very little. Sammy was right behind him and his face was less grim but not much more optimistic looking. The last was Castiel, and he looked awful. He looked exhausted, he looked cold. He looked completely lost. He hadn’t looked at her yet, his face downcast as he made his way down the stairs, he gripped the rail harder than she had ever seen him grip it before.
She stood before Castiel made it to the bottom of the stairs, she walked forward and stood just behind Dean, her hands wrapped around his arm, he brought his free hand up and rubbed soothing circles on her hand. Sammy stood beside her and put his hand on her shoulder, he leaned down, “he’s a little overwhelmed,” he whispered to her.
Castiel was at the bottom landing still looking down but focused on his hands in front of him. She nodded at her brother and took slow steps forward before she stopped a couple paces from the former Angel. He still hadn’t looked up from his hands. She reached out and put her hand on his, she wanted to sooth his fidgeting fingers, ease his worries. Make him feel better.
“Cas,” she said quietly, his heart fluttered at how softly she spoke to him. Her voice brought him some peace, it didn’t sound much different from while he was an angel. The brothers had sounded different. Much more gruff, not as smooth. Her voice was still like little bells that chimed in perfect harmony. Her voice was music to his ears.
She moved closer to him, her other hand touching his cheek gently, she was trying to coax his face upwards so she could look at him fully. He leaned his cheek into her touch, her touch was feather light, gentle and soothing. Her skin felt like a warm blanket to him, her fingers trembling against his cheek. He could feel her worry roll off her in waves. She always wore how she was feeling on her sleeve, he always knew how she was feeling. She was always one of the easiest to understand even while he was Angel.
“Castiel, look at me” she cooed gently at him, he lifted his face and had his eyes closed. He was afraid of her looking into his eyes and not seeing the Angel he was and only seeing the shell that was left. She ran her thumb across his cheek, a few of his tears slipped past his closed eyes. That was a sensation he was not going to get used to anytime soon. “Please love.”
He opened his eyes and looked at her face. He truly looked at her face, for the first time he saw her face. She was beautiful. Her skin was speckled with years of living, laugh lines, crows feet. She looked like she truly lived. While an angel he had never seen her face for what it truly was. But now he sees every pore, every wrinkle, every freckle. Her eyes were a beautiful green like Dean’s, her lips a soft pink and her hair was a lovely mahogany color.
He took his clenched hands from her and placed them on her face, inspecting her, feeling her skin for the first time. He had touched her before but never had it felt this real. It was so overwhelming, his heart was beating loudly in his ears as he stared deeply into her eyes. Her lips parted as she took a sharp breath when he touched her.
Then she smiled at him, “Castiel.”
“You are stunning,” Castiel said breathlessly. He brought her face towards his and kissed her gently. The feeling of her lips on his was almost too much for his mortal heart to handle. He hadn’t imagined what it would be like, to feel life like a human, he hadn’t imagined she would feel this perfect.
Someone cleared their throat behind the two, Castiel reluctantly pulled back from her and she gave him a sweet smile.
“So this my Castiel now?” She said softly, her eyes searching his face.
“This is your Castiel now,” his voice sounded the same, he looked the same, a little rugged and his lips felt the same. The only difference was the lack of soft thumb she would feel buzzing under his skin. The thumbing would get stronger under her touch. That was the only thing that was gone.
“Well I’m okay with that,” she pulled him to her side and wrapped her hands around his arm and leaned her head against his shoulder. She was just happy he was alive and he was here with her.
Dean looked between his baby sister and Castiel, when they first started dating he was against it. Hell he still didn’t like it. Castiel promised him he would protect her with his life. Something he truly meant as he had risked his life more than once to keep her safe. Now that Cas was human he didn’t know how protecting her would go, but he knew Castiel would do whatever it took to keep her safe.
Sam had left the library and went to find some food for the four of them. He had noticed his blanket on the couch, knowing she stayed there the whole night, waiting for them to come home. Dean’s flannel hung loosely off her frame, and he figured the pillow that was next to his blanket was Castiel’s pillow.
He hated leaving her here alone, she was never good with it, someone always stayed with her or she was with them. Ever since her Castiel got together he always made sure she wasn’t alone for long periods of time and he would constantly update her on his whereabouts. Something Sam appreciated greatly from the former Angel. He looked at the fridge, being held up with a piece of electrical tape, there was a picture of the four of them. They were all smiling, she insisted it be taped to the fridge, a reminder that no matter what they had each other and there was room for happiness in this fucked up world.

Pairing: Dean Winchester x Fem!Reader

It’s been over a year since you’ve last heard from or have seen Dean Winchester. The two of you were together for several years before eventually an argument erupted between the two of you, which ended in the two of you breaking up, and you leaving the Bunker; the only permanent home you had since yours burned down when you were a teenager.
“Y/N, why are you moving out?” Jack asked, as you were in yours and Dean’s shared – now former – bedroom. You were currently packing up a single duffel bag; a bag that had your entire life in it, a bag that you had been lugging around with you for as long as you could remember since the house fire.
Taking one of your shirts, you folded it up and placed it into the bag. You turned to look at Jack, a slightly sorrowful look on your face. “You know why Jack.” You didn’t want to move out, but you had thought that it would be for the best; especially since one of the reasons you had moved into the Bunker in the first place is because you and Dean had started dating. Before you had made the decision, Sam had told you that you didn’t have to move out, because him, Cas, and Jack had liked having you here. Even Dean – although the two of you were no longer together. But you had told Sam that seeing Dean every day – at least for now – was a little bit too painful for you.
“But everything is so much better with you here.” The last thing that Jack had wanted was for you to go. Ever since you moved into the Bunker, Jack said that it seemed more like a home. You had added so many personal touches that the Winchester’s never would have thought of otherwise if it wasn’t for you. Making an actual effort to celebrate every holiday – even the minor ones, implementing family dinners every Sunday, decorating for the holidays, hanging up pictures, and even having various house plants throughout.
You reached out for Jack’s hand and took it in yours, giving it a gentle squeeze. “I know Jack but…” You sighed. “Dean and I aren’t together anymore and I thought that it would be best for me to leave.”
“Just because you aren’t together doesn’t mean you have to leave. Sam said –” Jack started to say but you cut them off, knowing exactly what they were going to say.
“I know what Sam said. But, just because I’m leaving the Bunker doesn’t mean you and me still can’t talk.” You gave him a small smile and placed your hand on their cheek. Jack smiled back in return; their smile trying to convey understanding but hurt at the same time.
“Okay.” Jack said. “Can I hug you?” They asked.
“Of course. You don’t have to ask.” You said.
Jack and you hugged for what seemed like a long time; neither of you wanting to let go.
Tumblr media
“Thanks Sam. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” You smiled, sitting crossed legged on the bed with your laptop in front of you. You had just received some photos of a book that you knew that had been in the Bunker for a case that you were currently working on and had asked Sam to send you some pictures. Although the Bunker was about an hours drive from where you were working the case and Sam had even offered to drop off the books, you had told him that it was best for him to just send you the pictures. You had felt that seeing him in person would make you start crying, even though you knew he had wanted to see you.
“I already know what you’re going to say but, I just wanted to ask. After you’re done there, did you…did you want to come over?” Sam already knew that you were going to say no, but he had wanted you to say yes. Even though he talked to you pretty regularly and the two of you sent photos back and forth, he still missed you. Seeing you physically was a lot different compared to FaceTiming you.
“I can’t Sam.” You sighed softly, closing the laptop in front of you and pushing it to the side. “I mean…I want to. But…I don’t want things to be awkward between me and Dean.” Although you had regularly kept in contact with Sam, Jack, and Cas, Dean on the other hand you didn’t. It wasn’t entirely his fault though, as communication went both ways. There were countless times over the year where you had wanted to call him, text him, something. But each and every time the thought had entered your mind you turned to the comfort of alcohol or a warm body instead.
Sam sighed, knowing that you were going to say no. But there was a small part of him that had hoped you would say yes, especially because of how close you were. “I had to give it a shot right?” Sam held the phone in his hands as he sat in the War Room, open to one of the pages he had sent you pictures of.
“I know.” You sighed too. You had wanted to go back to the Bunker, it was something that you had been thinking about a lot lately. As much as you loved when Jack sent you pictures of everything that was going on, it also made you sad. “How’s…How is he?” You didn’t have to specify, full well knowing that Sam would know who you meant.
Sam had wanted to lie to you, tell you that Dean was doing okay, but he knew that you would see right through the lie. At the same time, he didn’t want to tell you the truth either. Ever since you and Dean had broken up and you had moved out, he noticed such a huge change in him. When he wasn’t being a recluse hauled up in his room, drowning his pain in his alcohol of choice, he had wanted to work case after case to stay busy.
Tumblr media
“You know, Y/N is only a few hours away. Maybe she would –” Sam began to say, but Dean quickly down him down.
“We’re not asking her.” Dean’s voice was hard and cold. “She wouldn’t come anyway.”
“Yeah…I guess you’re right.” Sam sighed, knowing that Dean was right. It had been a few months since you and Dean had broken up. The two of you had made it perfectly clear that you didn’t want to see each other. Well, the two of you had wanted to, but the two of you were too stubborn to admit it. Sam knew, that if you were in trouble or if Dean was in trouble, either of you would drop everything to go and help, despite how things had ended between you two. “I’m gonna call her. Ask if she knows anything about what we’re hunting.” He got up from his chair in the motel room and dialed your number, walking outside of the room.
Dean looked at the pages before him and eyed his phone, sighing quietly to himself. Picking it up he unlocked it with his passcode – your birthday – and stared at the homescreen wallpaper. It was a photo that you had taken of the two of you. You were lying in bed together; both of your hair messy and all over the place. He was kissing you on the cheek and you had the biggest smile on your face. He had no idea why he loved this picture so much but he did. He wished that he could go back to that moment more than anything.
Sam walked back into the room, Dean quickly closing his phone. “What’d she say?”
“She thinks we’re hunting a nuckelavee.” Sam sat down across from his older brother.
“A what?” That was something that Dean had never heard of, and he was pretty sure that Sam had never heard of it either.
“It’s a horse-like demon from Orcadian folklore. Apparently, its breath wilts crops, sickens livestock, is responsible for droughts. Three things that we have seen. But get this, it’s mainly a sea-dwelling creature.” Sam explained.
“So what’s a knocklevee –” Dean began, but Sam quickly interrupted.
“It’s nuckelavee. And, Y/N has a theory about that. A lot of Celtic people settled here in North Carolina. So, she’s thinking that since they brought their culture here –” Dean was the one to interrupt now.
“They brought the creature here with them.” Dean said, and Sam nodded. “Who knew her Celtic Folklore degree would come in handy.”
Sam gave Dean a puzzled look. “I didn’t know she had a Celtic Folklore degree.”
Tumblr media
“He’s…He’s Dean.” Was the best thing that Sam could come up with to tell you. It was vague enough, but he also wasn’t lying to you.
“I uh…I gotta go Sam. I have an interview with a professor in about 30 minutes.” You got up from the bed and started making your way toward the motel bathroom. “I’ll call you later once the case is over.” You paused. “Thanks.”
“Bye Y/N. Be careful.” Sam responded, his voice sounding a bit too sad for your liking.
“Always am.” You reassured him before hanging up the phone. You looked at your phones wallpaper, a photo that you had wanted to change, but didn’t have the heart to do it, even though it’s been more than a year since you and Dean had ended things. It was a picture that you had taken while you were lying in bed with him; both of your hair messy from the night before. He was kissing your cheek, and you had the biggest smile on your face. You wished that you could go back to this moment because you remembered how happy you were here.
Tumblr media
You woke up to the sounds of beeping and blinding lights; finding yourself squinting. Your mouth was dry, unable to recall the last time you had actually drank something. How long have you been here? Your eyes finally able to adjust to the brightness of the lights, you looked around and noticed that you were in the hospital; unsure of how you had ended up here in first place. The last thing you remembered happening was going to talk to the professor concerning the case that you were working on.
Tumblr media
“Hi Professor Keating. I’m Agent Larkin. We talked on the phone.” You had knocked on the professors door, she was sitting at her desk and looked up at you with a soft smile on her face.
“Oh yes!” She quickly closed the book that was currently on her desk and got up from her chair. Walking over to you she held out her hand and you shook it. “You’re earlier than I was expecting.”
You looked down at your watch and noticed that you were about five minutes earlier than you’re scheduled interview time with her. “I can wait outside for a few minutes if need me to. But, I’d prefer not to. You understand that this incident is something that my office isn’t taking lightly.”
“Yes, of course.” The professor walked back over to her desk. “What do you need to know?”
Tumblr media
When you turned to face the door to get more of a feel for your surroundings you noticed Dean slumped in the chair with his eyes closed and his arms crossed. You wondered how long he had been here. As if he knew you were looking in his direction he opened his eyes; the two of you making eye contact. He adjusted himself so he was now sitting upright in the chair. “Hey.” Dean said.
“Hey.” You said, unsure of what else to say to the man in front of you. There were in fact, a million different things that you had wanted to say to Dean, and there were a million things you had wanted to do. You had wanted to hug him, kiss him, tell him that you missed him. You felt tears start to well up in your eyes, no longer able to hold the composure that you were trying so hard to have. The last thing you had wanted was to cry in front of Dean. Not that you hadn’t cried in front of him before, but after not seeing each other in over a year, you didn’t want the first interaction between the two of you to be of you crying.
Dean got up from his chair without any kind of hesitation and walked over to the hospital bed. He took your hand – the one that didn’t have an IV stuck in it – and held it. For some reason, you weren’t expecting him to take your hand. Although you haven’t held his hand in over a year, the feeling of it felt like no time had passed, like you had just held it the same day or the day before. “How did you know I was here?” You asked.
“You still had John Bonham as your emergency contact.” You had forgotten that you had put Dean as your number one contact if something were to ever happen to you. You had meant to change it to someone else, but never got the chance to. With everything that had happened over the course of the last year, changing your emergency contact list was honestly the last thing that was on your mind.
“I’m surprised Sam didn’t come instead.” You replied, Dean went back to sitting in the chair that he had just been napping in.
“I told him not to.” Dean’s words caught you by surprise. A slightly confused expression must have formed on your face because of the next words Dean had said. “He offered to come in my place. But when I told him no,” he chuckled softly, “I swear he…” He looked at you, almost as if he was in some kind of disbelief. “He had the biggest smile on his face. Haven’t really seen him smile since…” Ever since you had left, the Bunker didn’t feel as warm. Sam, Jack, Cas, and even Dean himself, who despite everything that have gone through always had some kind of smile on their faces whenever you were around. But when you decided to leave, it was as if all the happiness had left the place. Dean hadn’t seen the three of them smile it seemed in almost a year; himself included.
“How long have you been here? Last thing I remember I was interviewing the professor. I don’t know if Sam told you or not.” As much as you had wanted to sit up, because of how awkward it was to be lying down in the position you were in to be talking to Dean, the slight pain that you were currently in was making it a little difficult to actually want to sit up.
“Haven’t been here that long. They called me about four hours ago. Arrived 30 minutes after that.”
Tumblr media
Dean was lying in his bed, staring at the empty space next to him. It has been a year since you had slept in that spot next to him, and each and every day he had hoped that he would somehow wake up and you would be there lying next to him. That was one of the things that he had taken for granted while the two of you were together; waking up next to you. Each and every morning he would wake up to the scent of your body wash, that still lingered on your skin from your shower that night. He loved waking up to the smell of warm vanilla and honey; a scent that he thought used to be generic smelling – until he met you.
“I shouldn’t still be missing you.” He said to the empty space. The two of you ending things was one of the worst regrets of his life; and throughout his life, he had his fair share of regrets. So many times he had wanted to take back the things he said to you that night. So many times he had wanted to call you and tell you that he was sorry, that he was the one that was the jerk; not you. Over the course of the year he had forgotten what the argument even was about; but knew that it was probably something ridiculous, something that either of you could have easily gotten over.
His phone started to ring just then, unsure of who could possibly be calling him. Everyone that he had talked to was currently in the Bunker; besides you of course, but he knew for a fact that you wouldn’t be calling him. The number that came up was unknown, but he decided to answer it anyway just in case. He had somehow hoped that maybe you had changed your number and this was you calling. “Hello?” He asked.
“Hi. Is this...John Bonham?” An unfamiliar female voice asked. Definitely not you.
“Yeah, that’s me.” He was hesitant to say anything else.
“This is Nurse Julia from Republic County Hospital in Belleville, Kansas. I was calling in regard to a Joan Larkin.” Nurse Julia had said. For a moment, slight confusion washed over Dean as he didn’t know a Joan Larkin, well he did, that was the real name of Joan Jett; that’s when it clicked – Joan Larkin was you. Only you would have picked that name. “I’m calling because you’re her emergency contact.”
“Yes, she’s my…Is she okay?” He almost called you his girlfriend, something that you hadn’t been for such a long time. He almost slipped.
“Can you come in Mister Bonham? I would prefer not to talk about this over the phone.” Her voice was calm, and it was something that he needed, even though his heart was racing and his brain was coming up with worst case scenarios.
“Yeah. Yeah. I can be there.” He confirmed, before hanging up the phone. He had never put on his boots and grabbed his keys so fast in his life.
Tumblr media
You smiled, not surprised that Dean had floored it to get here. You knew that the drive was supposed to be an hour, maybe a little bit more, but Dean had managed to make it a 30-minute drive. “Can’t believe you drove 30 minutes for me.” That’s not why you were impressed, you were impressed that he had driven here at all, given the fact that you two didn’t leave things on the best terms.
“I’d drive 30 hours straight for you.” The words that escaped Dean’s lips not only surprised you, but surprised him. The two of you hadn’t ended things on the best terms, and this was the first interaction that the two of you have had in over a year; only getting bits and pieces of each other’s lives through other people. Some of the information was reliable, some not; but in a weird way, it still felt like you were still in each other’s lives even if you didn’t talk to each other or see each other. He still cared for you, even if at times he couldn’t admit it to himself or other people. Deep down, he had hoped that you still cared about him too, but he wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t.
“The doctor said they would release you tonight. Your injuries weren’t that serious.” Dean said, not really giving you any time to respond to his previous comment. He wasn’t sure if he was protecting himself or you. There was a small part of him, that had wanted to know how you would have responded, but the part of him that won was the part that didn’t want to be rejected by you.
“What did the doctor say?” You asked. You wanted to respond to what he said previously, but he had quickly changed the subject too fast for you to.
“You had slight head trauma, but not a concussion. Not sure how you managed to pull that one off.” When Dean had talked to the doctor, they said that you had suffered a minor brain injury, but it wasn’t bad enough for you to get a concussion, which he was thankful for. Between you and him, you two have suffered plenty of concussions to last a lifetime.
“Brain injuries don’t always involve concussions.” You commented; remembering an article that you had read somewhat recently.
“Thank you Doctor Larkin.” He smirked. “Nice name by the way.”
You couldn’t help but smile. “I learned from the best.” Before you had met the Winchester’s, using a rockstar alias is something that you would have never dreamed of using. Before you had met them, you always used some kind of generic name or a last name related to your childhood, almost as if you were filling out one of those security questions before you were able to log into your bank account. You had used your street name growing up, your favorite teacher’s last name, and even your mothers maiden name. You thought that using those names wouldn’t be as suspicious as using a famous one – like the Winchester’s had been doing for over 15 years.
“Shit.” You looked at Dean, a slight panic stricken look in your eyes. “My…my motel room. I have my case documents in there.”
“Don’t worry about it. I uh, while you were sleeping, I went and grabbed them for you. They’re in Baby along with the rest of your things.” After Dean made sure that you were safe and okay, he had left the hospital and went to your motel after calling Sam to see where you were staying.
Tumblr media
Dean went up to the front desk, a slightly balding man was leaning up against the counter reading some kind of magazine that he’s never heard of. “Hey there. I was wondering if you could help me out.” Dean flashed the man a smile. The man looked up from the magazine he was reading; his expression bored.
“Yeah?” His bored expression matched his bored sounding voice.
“My girlfriend is staying at this motel, and I wanted to surprise her. Can you tell me what room she’s staying in? I think she’s here under the name Larkin.” Calling you his girlfriend felt so good sounding coming out of his mouth, it was something that he had missed saying.
“Why don’t you text your girlfriend buddy.” The man placed air quotes around girlfriend.
“Listen, buddy.” Dean reached into his back pocket and pulled out a 20 dollar bill, sliding it in front of the man. “Can you tell me what room she’s in?” The man looked at the 20 in front of him and grabbed it desperately.
“113.” The man replied, placing the 20 in the front pocket of his shirt.
Tumblr media
“Thanks. How did you –” You stopped yourself from finishing the sentence. “Never mind. I think I already know.” You were about to ask how Dean had gotten into your room, but you knew how good he was when it came to breaking into rooms that he had no good reason being in. “You said, you said you have the rest of my things?”
He nodded. “Yeah. Everything that I could find that I knew was yours. Still have that same duffel bag uh?” When he saw that you were still carrying that duffel bag around, it had made him smile, because he had missed seeing that bag of yours. He had told you countless times that you had needed a new bag, but you had refused, because the bag had too much sentimental value for you to give up. Seeing this bag of yours, in all of its slightly tattered and stained glory, it had become sentimental for him too.
“You have your baby, I have mine.” You knew that you needed a new one, but you couldn’t part of it. That duffel bad, although tattered and stained, held a lot of sentimental value for you. “When I leave tonight, I’ll take it out of your hands. I have a case to finish.”
“No you don’t Sunshine.” The nickname that he had given you when you first met easily rolled off his tongue. “Sam got it handled. The professor you talked to? She was the big bad. She was the one that knocked you out too.”
You practically threw your head back onto the pillow. “Of course she was.” You didn’t know how you didn’t see it, but thinking back, it was rather obvious. All of the students that had been murdered were hers, she was the last one that had seen them all alive: she was the common denominator. “I feel so stupid.”
“I’ll cut you some slack. You did suffer a brain injury.” He grinned, causing you to roll your eyes.
“Well, I’ll still take my things back from you.” You saw his face drop slightly at your comment. You cocked your head, furrowing your brow. “What?”
“Would you…would you want to come back?” He was hesitant to ask.
“Come back where? The Bunker?” You asked, almost in disbelief that he would even ask. “Dean I don’t think –”
“Y/N, I want you to come back.” Yet another sentence that had surprised you. “The Bunker hasn’t been the same without you. I…I haven’t been the same without you.” His words started to crush you; you were speechless. You didn’t realize what kind of impact that you had had when you left. You knew that Jack, Cas, and Sam were going to miss you, they always told you how much they missed you and you did the same. They were like family to you, and you hated to leave your family. But you did what you thought was best, and clearly, that was a mistake. “I’m not blaming you. I’m, I’m blaming myself.”
“Dean, please don’t blame yourself.” There truly was no reason for him to blame himself, because you too were at fault. “We both said things that we probably shouldn’t have said to each other.” You sighed. “To be honest, I can’t even remember what the argument was even about. But I know it was something that we both should have gotten over.”
“To be honest, I can’t remember what the argument was about either. I just know it was about something stupid.” He got up from his chair, reaching into his front pocket and pulling out his phone, handing it to you.
“Why are you giving me your phone?” You were confused.
“Unlock it.” His response simple.
“Dean I don’t know your –”
“I never changed it.” With that, you typed in your birthday and his phone unlocked to reveal his wallpaper: it was the same photo of the two of you that was the wallpaper on yours.
“Dean…” You felt your eyes well up with tears again; Dean leaned down and kissed you on the top of your head. You didn’t realize how much you had missed the top of his head kisses. While you were with him, it was something that you had taken for granted because it was something he did all the time.
“Come back home.” Dean said; three words that he had wanted to tell you the second you walked out the doors of the Bunker over a year ago.
“Permanently?” You asked.
“Permanently.” He confirmed.

Happy Birthday Dean!
Dean Winchester x Reader
Tumblr media

You woke up early that morning and made sure Dean would sleep until late. When you woke up his arms were tight around you, like they always were when you slept, his naked chest glued to your, also, naked back – last night was interesting, to say the least. His warm breath in the back of your neck and his gentle snoring almost lulling you back to sleep but today was a special day, it was Dean’s birthday and you wanted to do something special.
You knew that celebrating his birthday wasn’t common, always too much on his mind and too little people that cared. But you did and you made a promise to yourself to make his birthday be the best one he ever had.
With that said, you reluctantly got out of his grip, making Dean groan in his sleep, knowing even unconsciously the emptiness in his arms. You smiled to yourself at that and admired Dean’s sleeping state for a while longer. He always looked so peaceful – even if he had a weapon under his pillow. He could rest. He had admitted to you once that you were one of the main reasons for that. Knowing you were safe in his arms made him feel safe and it was a mutual feeling. Oh you loved him so much.
You got up, turning away from your boyfriend and putting some clothes on. The ones you were wearing last night scattered all around, the memories making your face heat up. When you left the bedroom, you gave Dean one last look, his strong chest going up and down with deep breaths and one of his feet peeking out from under the cover. You smiled and closed the door behind you.
You spotted Sam in the kitchen before going out and told him your plans for the day.
“Please, if he wakes up, tell him I went out to buy…tampons or just say I’m going to help Charlie with some things she asked for and I’ll be back later” You told him and Sam guaranteed you that Dean would not know about your surprise. You gave Sam a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek as a thank you and bolted to the garage.
You haven’t used your own car in a while so it was weird stepping into the driver’s seat of a car different from the Impala. On your way to the nearest grocery store you made some calls. Charlie and Cas were coming later for the little party and they seemed more than excited to get the invite from you on the phone.
You bought all the flavors of pie you found there. Apple, cherry, pecan, you name it and some other salty snacks. In a liquor store nearby you got beers and whiskey. But there was one thing you were very much looking forward to.
Well, a while ago you had made some calls, some contacts here and there who were also fond of classic rock hooked you up with a guy who was selling a limited edition Led Zeppelin vinyl. A version of Led Zeppelin IV. What can you say, you were kind of also into them, it was one of the reasons you and Dean bonded so quickly in the first place.
You had to drive for two hours (totalizing four to go there and come back) to get the vinyl but it was worth it. You had told Sam about this and he made a face, asking you how you found the money for this but you refused to tell him and just laughed. Once you got the vinyl you would come back as quickly as you could so that Dean wouldn’t suspect it.
Two hours after you left Dean woke up, noticing the other side of the bed empty. He frowned and threw the covers off his body to get up and put clothes on, then leave the bedroom. When he got into the main room in the bunker Sam was sitting at the table, books and a cup of coffee in front of him and he looked up, a wide smile opening up in his face.
Sam stood up and Dean smiled back, opening his arms for a hug.
“Good morning and Happy Birthday” Sam said, his hand patting Dean harshly on the back, earning a laugh from the oldest.
“Thanks Sammy, where’s Y/N?” Dean asked after they pulled away from each other, looking around as if you would pop out from behind the shelves.
“She went to help Charlie with some stuff, she’ll be back soon” He answered and Dean nodded, still a little bitter for you not being with him in bed and giving him a birthday morning sex as a present. Well, maybe there would be a birthday night sex. He smirked at the thought and went to the kitchen to get some coffee.
You were almost back at the bunker, the vinyl secured inside your bag wrapped in cheap colorful paper that you got at the convenience store. Charlie had texted you she was almost there and Cas said he was arriving soon.
You texted Sam saying that you were due back in 20 minutes since you were a few miles away and that he could distract Dean for a while so that you could make little decorations for the birthday party. Sam agreed and told you he would try and keep Dean away from the house for an hour or so. Perfect.
Once you arrived you got right to work, blowing balloons, getting the pies and the chips ready and hiding your present in a bedroom that used to be yours before you started sleeping with Dean. Charlie arrived with Cas and had helped you put everything up, talking to you about how nice it was of you to do this and that she would kill to have a girlfriend like you. You laughed at the comment and jokingly said that Dean had, in fact, killed for you – even if it wasn’t totally a joke.
Sam had texted you again. Back in 10. Perfect timing Moose. Everything was done by the time you received the message and you decided to hide behind the furniture so that it would purposefully make Dean confused since he definitely would see your car parked in the garage.
“Y/N, sweetheart, you here?” You heard the door opening and the unmistakable voice of your boyfriend and his brother filled your ears. The talking stopped, Dean probably noticing the weird silence in the place and you knew he was probably reaching for his gun about this moment, his steps becoming lighter on the stairs. You held back a chuckle.
Once he came down the last step you jumped from behind the table, Charlie and Castiel along with you. He indeed had his gun out, Sam almost red from holding back his laughter behind him.
“Happy Birthday Dean!” You four screamed, startling the man. But, once the shock was gone he broke out into a huge smile and you ran into his arms, wrapping your hands around his neck as he twirled you around, a fit of giggles coming out of you as he laughed. He put you down and gave you a firm peck on the lips.
“So this is what you were actually doing, I thought you had abandoned me this morning” He said and you playfully rolled your eyes at his drama. He pulled away from you and walked towards the table. “Baby this is amazing, you’re amazing”
He hugged Charlie and Cas, thanking both of them too for the surprise. He rubbed both his hands together, just like how a Disney villain would, and smiled widely.
“All right, let’s get this party started shall we?” He said and you all laughed at his childness, already reaching for a slice of pie and a beer bottle.
Everything was perfect, you had never seen Dean this happy – except when you guys kissed for the first time and he looked like he had won the lottery. He was laughing, having fun and talking about everything and you noticed how this little party meant more to him than you imagined.
By the end, Charlie, Sam and Cas had given him their presents. Each had some importance to Dean in a different way but yours was left for later, you wanted to be alone with him when he received it.
It was late when the party ended, everyone was a bit drunk and full of food. You told Charlie and Cas they could stay the night and they thanked you for it, each going to clean up and go to bed. You stayed behind to clean the mess.
While you were cleaning some plates in the kitchen you felt a big pair of hands wrap around your waist and kisses being left over your shoulders. You hummed and leaned back on Dean's chest, one of his hands wandering lower.
“Hm, and what is your present to me, huh sweetheart?” He said. Before he could lower his hand even more you grabbed his wrist gently. You could practically hear his pout and you turned around on his hold, wrapping your arms around his neck.
“I have one,” You smiled. “Well, more than one” You completed with a suggestive grin and Dean smirked down at you, smashing his lips on yours in a mindblowing kiss, his tongue dancing beautifully against yours as his hands gripped your hips. You reluctantly pulled away by pressing a hand to his chest and he groaned in disapproval. You chuckled. “I’m serious, I have something for you”
You grabbed his hand and led him to your shared room, telling him to wait there as you grabbed the wrapped vinyl in your previous bedroom. When you came back your hands were holding the album teasingly behind your back, a giddy smile on your face.
You extended your hands in front of you, the wrapped gift gripped by your fingers and Dean smiled at you.
“Happy Birthday handsome” You said and he grabbed the gift, studying the wrapping as he undid the knot tying it closed. You bit your lip, analyzing his face as he slowly discarded the wrapper and looked at the album in his hands.
Dean’s eyes widened and his mouth opened in a perfect ‘O’. He looked between you and the classic rock vinyl and placed your gift delicately over the bed before wrapping his arms around you and smashing his lips to yours. You yelped when he picked you up, making you wrap your legs around his waist.
“I love you so much, thank you” He said after he pulled away. “How did you even find this?”
“I have my sources” You said with a grin and kissed him again. He put you down and went to grab the vinyl again, taking the disc out of the cover. He had a vinyl player in his room and he put it there to play, the sound of “Black Dog” filling the small room.
He turned back to you and slowly walked your way, playfully dancing to the tune, shaking his shoulders making you chuckle. He grabbed your waist and pulled you into him, giving you a passionate, deep, loving kiss and you melted. Your hand went to the back of his neck to tug at the strands making him groan.
He pushed back you until your knees hit the bed, making you fall into the mattress. He lowered his lips to your neck leaving hickeys and bites along the flesh making you let out low moans and groans.
He held himself up by his elbows, his face close to yours.
“What’s my other present?” He whispered against your lips and you grinned wickedly, one of your hands rubbing at his chest.
“Why don’t you find out for yourself, hm?” You whisper back seductively and he kisses you again, his hands traveling under your shirt and rubbing at your flesh.
Dean never really liked birthdays but today, for him, was the best day ever because as long as he got to spend it with you, nothing could make it bad.

The types my favourite Supernatural characters would fall for:
Includes Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester, Charlie Bradbury, Castiel, Gabriel, Lucifer, Jack Kline, Crowley, and Rowena Macleod
————————————————————————
Sam Winchester:
Tumblr media
Surprisingly, I don’t think Sam would go for a nerd, or a bamf. No, I think he loves the gentle people most. Those who - regardless of whether or not they know about monsters - see the good in everything. Those who share a positive mindset and manage to smile through every situation. Sam has been through hell and back, and he needs that place of solitude more than he cares to admit. Someone he can run to who he knows will make him feel better. Comforting arms, gentle words, reassuring kisses: he craves those things more than anything. And he will damn well do anything he can to keep you safe from all those things he fights against. God forbid you are the one to be faced with those evils. His face always seems to light up upon seeing you. He has this habit of walking to you and wrapping his arms around you, lifting you off the ground slightly. But when he is exhausted, or something goes wrong, he will saunter, place an arm around your waist and pull you in for a side hug, his face buried in your hair, simply grateful to be back home. With you. He needs those things and we all know it.
——
Dean Winchester:
Tumblr media
Now, Dean is the exact person to fall head over heels for nerds. People who can kick ass? Sure. But someone who knows a lot of things about a lot of different subjects? Very attractive. We all know Dean is somewhat of a nerd himself - we’ve seen it on multiple occasions - but he buries it deep down. But once you start rambling about a book series you love, or a game you’re really into, 90% chance he’ll give it a go behind your back. When you find out, he always plays the “so I can talk along” card, but let’s be honest: he’s genuinely curious. It sounds so stupid and nerdy, he wants to know what it is all about. Opposite of him, you love books. Unfortunately, he used to take advantage of this. He’d let you do all the reading while he sits in the chair beside you. Doing nothing. But he’s learned to love research with you. Somehow, it is very calming to him. He tends to let go of his emotions easier when it’s the two of you nose deep in books. And that’s something so delicate to you, because you know how Dean can be during these times. It is a sign he trusts you a lot.
——
Charlie Bradbury:
Tumblr media
Golden retriever girlfriend golden retriever girlfriend golden retriever girlfriend golden retr-. She has a lot of nerdy hobbies, if you will. But if you are willing to participate in them, she’ll do a double take. In her eyes, you had always been attractive, but she is awkward, so she pushed those feelings down. But now you are actually interested in playing a game of DnD with her? Maybe she is over analysing things, and you are just being polite. But one event turns into two, which turns into three, which turns into four. And when she announced your fifth shared event with Dean, he’s had enough. He is the one to actually encourage Charlie to ask you out. In his words “grow a pair and get it over with”. Very inspiring. So, that day, she starts stumbling over her words. Anxiety overload. And that’s when you interrupt her and ask her out for dinner. A dinner as in a dinner date. And after that, everything just happens on its own. You don’t care what Charlie comes up with, as long as she doesn’t have to do it alone. And for her to have someone to share her interests with, is all she could really ask for. It makes her so happy, it becomes difficult to contain. All in a good manner, of course.
——
Castiel:
Tumblr media
You guys know Folklore/Evermore (you should)? Cas would definitely be attracted to someone with those vibes. Someone calm and gentle, very laid back, bookwise, and imaginative. Perhaps an author, or a musical s/o. Someone who outs expressions and emotions through art. The look of focus and dedication on your face is simply so entrancing. Oftentimes, he’ll simply sit beside you and stare at you while you work. At first, it was very distracting and made you grow all flustered, but you got used to the feeling. Now, instead of intruding, it is soothing. He’d met you through Sam and Dean, who you knew in your youth. They kept in touch. And then one day he shows up in the middle of your bedroom, claiming he would bring you somewhere safe. And just like that, you had found yourself in the bunker. The boys had been hunting a pack of werewolves with a grudge against the Winchesters. And they had found out about you. As the pair was out, you and Cas got to know each other fairly well, and things just took off from there. He claims your works are some of the best his father ever created, and that he can spend hours looking at them, or listening to them. And he will. He actually keeps an entire journal with ideas he finds throughout his life and offers it to you, hoping to help you somehow. It’s endearing.
——
Gabriel:
Tumblr media
Gabriel has seen some stuff, okay. He has heard and seen stories happen throughout many lifetimes. And he’s always been a sucker for a good story. If you are an author or bookworm, he’d grow enthusiastic at the thought. Sure, he loves looks, but he has a soft spot in his heart to those who love stories as much as he does. That entire Casanova attitude drops when he’s around you. He’s gentle, careful, almost as if you are the most precious cargo in the world. You have to share your works with him, would you have them. He wants to know everything he can, and everything you are willing to share with him. Read any good books? Tell him all about it. In detail. Rant about it, he doesn’t care. Late nights are spent on either the couch or on the bed. His head is in your lap as you drown yourself in a good book, reading aloud to him as he hums occasionally, letting you know he is still reading. And in exchange, he’ll tell you the things he has seen (though, only the good things). His entire personality seems to change around you, and is something he is so grateful for.
——
Lucifer:
Tumblr media
Lucifer isn’t usually the type to fall in love quickly. But it’s all about playful banter with him. You dare argue back to him? You’re lucky you’re cute. Your initial meeting was after the whole Amara debacle, and - suffice to say - you were pissed when you saw him. You full-out shouted in his face, pointing accusing fingers and yelling words you probably shouldn’t. And he just smiled. He’d probably say something along the lines of “you’re adorable when you yell”. Now, that pisses you off even more. It takes some before you finally have a good conversation with him. And that’s when you realise, he might not even be that bad of a guy. If anything, you are the one who argues back and forth with him because you know he loves it. It’s that playful and loving mocking, you know? He lives for it and you know it. That satisfied smirk? Those joyful eyes? That’s all admiration, darling. He is taken with you from your first shouting match at him. “Asshole” “Minx” “Mister ‘I like to make others feel bad because it makes me feel good’” “Who am I? ‘I like to pile up all my emotions and stuff them down somewhere until I explode’” “You insufferable prick” “Your insufferable prick ;)”
——
Jack Kline:
Tumblr media
Jack loves a person who lives more in the present. He worries a lot. Like, an unnecessary amount. There’s a lot of things swirling in his mind constantly. He needs a significant other who will take him on walks in nature. Someone to take him shopping just for the fun of it. Spontaneous dinner dates, taking the car to a random destination, changing the rooms just because they can. Someone who is spontaneous enough to drag him with them constantly. He needs the distractions, whether he likes to admit it or not. But he goes with you willingly. Regardless of what you say or offer; his answer always seems to be ‘yes’. He has fallen for you the moment he set eyes on you. He didn’t even know what that feeling was at first. It led to a very uncomfortable conversation with Dean. He said things he probably shouldn’t have said to Jack. He feels inexplicably happy around you, as if all worries and care simply disintegrate in your presence. It’s so relaxing to him, he doesn’t find himself wanting to part with you anytime soon. He is smitten with you and everyone can see it.
——
Crowley:
Tumblr media
Crowley appreciates honesty more than he lets on. Does he lie? Yes. Does he do it on a daily basis? Yes. Would he lie to you? Only if he had to to protect you from something. But he needs a break from that constant nagging from demons, or the calling of the Winchesters. He needs a place to rant and sigh. Someone who he could explain all his irritations towards. But he wants that person to actually form a conversation with that person. Not just be heard, but also receive caring words. Honest words for when he needs it most. But, besides those moments, he needs someone with somewhat of an intimidating atmosphere around them. This already comes naturally when seeing Crowley, but you need that neutral face, set in stone, safe for when it’s just the two of you. Someone who can help him with difficult decisions or orders. But also someone compassionate enough to slow him down at times. Ironically, the Winchesters really like you. Crowley hates it.
——
Rowena Macleod:
Tumblr media
Rowena is a lady and she loves to be reminded of it: take her out on dates, buy her flowers, engulf her in affection and offer her compliments on the daily. She returns the gestures twice as much. I mean, she puts spells on you just to make sure you are okay. That spell she uses for herself so she cannot die easily? She will 10/10 do that on you too. Once she finds someone to settle for, someone she truly loves, she’ll do anything for that person. Your opinion and well-being comes first, always. It’s almost as poetic as swans; she can and will dedicate her life to you. The Winchesters didn’t even know about you until Lucifer got out to look for his son. Rowena hid at your place after she was burned. You were her one safe place and she did not hesitate to run to you. She is the person to put her life on the line if it meant getting you to safety. Hell, even Crowley was in it for as long as he could. And he did a great job, because - when he was still alive - the Winchesters never found out about you. Rowena is the type to be all domestic with someone: A home, a cat, cooking in kitchens - though she does love fancy restaurants. At first you wouldn’t really believe it, but she would love to get settled down somewhere. As long as it means she gets to keep her craft there as well.

I just had the absolutely diabolical thought-
After Cas died the last time, Dean just shut down. He wouldn't let Sam speak of him, he wouldn't let himself think of him, if he saw a man in a familiar trenchcoat, he'd just turn away. Any of Cas' belongings made it to an old shoe-box, stashed away so well it could only gather dust, intentionally forgotten. As far as Dean Winchester was concerned, Cas might have not existed at all.
Sam, of course, wouldn't leave it alone. Every once in a while he'd mention the angel fleetingly, only to be ignored. He tried being forward, cornering Dean and begging him to at least acknowledge a part of their life was missing. He tried being careful and gentle in his approach, trying to spot a hint of vulnerability in Dean, that momentary, blink-and-you-miss-it look in his eye when he'd hear his name. He tried to be casual, off-handedly say something to catch him off guard.
"Oh, I think this was Cas' favourite mug," off to the shoebox it went.
"Cas really liked this song," and coincidentally, he'd never hear it again.
"Cas would've loved that," and whatever 'that' was would never be mentioned again.
No matter what he said, as soon as Cas' name was uttered, Dean suddenly could not hear it. Even when it was left unspoken, as soon as it became clear who 'he' that Sam incessantly talked about was, it fell on deaf ears.
Months went by, and Sam would not give up, he'd never give up. However his attempts would become more sparse and he'd go weeks without even trying to say anything alluding to Cas. In fact, at a certain point, although he could not remember exactly when, he actively avoided the topic, just as Dean did. Some days he was too tired to confront the reality of his brother being severely unwell, and played into it, just to give himself a couple of days of false normalcy. Because Dean was 'fine'. He said so every time Sam dared to ask. So, some days Sam allowed everything to be just 'fine'.
It was one of those streaks, then. They'd have breakfast together and make a small talk, about anything and everything - as long as Cas wasn't mentioned. Dean would make a bad joke, and Sam would roll his eyes. They fell back into decades long routine, only occasionally broken by Sam, who would always end up coming back to the topic of the angel. He'd always try and catch Dean off-guard, even though he knew the outcome by heart by then. Dean would simply look away, the same, dark look over his eyes, and while he'd stand still, the same as before Sam said anything, he seemed miles away.
That day Sam didn't plan on saying anything. In fact, he himself forgot about it, caught in Dean's denial. It was truly easier that way, to just take Dean at face value, to ignore the fact everything he said, did, or perhaps even thought was a facade. The day itself wasn't remarkable in any way, either. It was as if the entire world adjusted to ignore the fact Cas ever existed in it.
They had their usual banter over breakfast, only to split up after finishing - Sam hid away with his laptop in hands, Dean would leave to work on Baby. In fact he worked on her so much, Sam wasn't sure there was anything left to improve. He never doubted that was in fact what Dean was doing, as he'd always hear banging and scraping of metal even through the walls. It was like that then, too. There was clanking, and music, and occasional roars of the engine. Yet-
At one point it stopped.
Sam only noticed it after a couple of minutes - the music still played, echoing through the bunker, but there was no other sound accompanying it. There was no delicate vibrations from tools being tossed onto the floor.
Perhaps it was his hunter instincts kicking in, or perhaps simple paranoia, but there was something unsettling about that silence.
Sam carefully put his computer away and followed the music up the stairs, listening in closely for any sound of distress, or even any sound at all, but Led Zeppelin blaring from the speaker drowned everything out. Once he reached the garage and the music barely sounded like any melody at all, with mild annoyance, he turned it off, for a moment relishing in the sudden silence.
Except- he heard heavy breathing, as if someone was gasping for air despite being locked in a place deprived of oxygen. It was loud, it was panicked, it was-
It was Dean. Dean, sitting with his back against the wall, knees pulled to his chest, tears streaming down his pale, clammy face. Before Sam could even move, Dean looked up at him, eyes wide and glistening, and he looked so terrified and helpless, for a moment it felt like he was just a scared kid, who saw something in the darkest corner of his room.
Between heavy, disorganised breaths, he managed to pant out,
"My ears keep ringing, and it sounds just like him."

We are here for you
Navigation / SPN Masterlist
Dean x Reader x Castiel
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sun was starting to set, it was at the perfect height to be directly into your eyes as you drove. You were reaching to pull the sun visor down so it would block at least some of the glare as your phone began to ring.
There were only a select few people who called you. Other people texted because they know you don't like talking on the phone unless it was an emergency. So once the visor was down you picked up your phone to see it was Castiel.
When you answer you put it on speaker and place your phone on your lap as you continued to drive. "Hey angel" the nickname you had for him rolled off your tongue easily and you knew that there would be a soft smile on his face. "hi y/n"
He wasn't one for nicknames really and that was okay. However that wasn't the thing that had you nervous is was the fact that after he had spoke your name a sigh escaped him. "Castiel what's wrong?" he never called you if there was something wrong. He would just appear so the fact that he hasn't yet really has you worried.
"its Dean" his words were forced out as if he was becoming frustrated with something. You knew that Dean wasn't doing to well with the passing of his mom, and the whole Jack situation.
That's actually why you were out running around trying to find any way to get his mom back but also to find any trace of Jack. There hadn't been and you knew they were not going to be happy with how there was no progress being made. "What's going on with him. Is he okay?"
Rustling was heard and a incoherent grumble was heard before you heard Cas telling someone to stay out the fridge. A few moments later Cas spoke into the phone again. "I cant help him this time. He needs you, we need you to come back to the bunker. He's drunk and no one can get him to calm down"
As you rest your head against the seat you sigh. You weren't angry or anything you just had to figure out how you would approach Dean to get him to calm down. "alright ill be there as soon as I can. I love you"
Before he hung up a soft "we love you too" was heard before the beeping sound. Tossing your phone to the passenger seat you pressed on the gas. You were known for always being a safe driver usually but on cases and when people needed you, all caution was thrown to the wind.
When you pull up the bunker you park beside baby and walk inside. The sight inside breaks your heart, Dean is standing with what looks like to be his fourth beer in his hand as he argues with Sam and Cas both. Cas is trying to be gentle with him but you can tell they had just got done arguing because of the tension through the room.
Sam is the first to notice you and he gives you a look that's like "save me". You point to tell him that its okay to leave and so he does but not before kissing the top of your head in a friendly way.
Now it leaves the three of you in the room. You walk up beside Castiel and look at Dean. "Dean can you please put the bottle down?" your voice was soft not wanting to come off as demanding or anything to tip him off but you should have known that wasn't going to work. Instead he lashes out. "of course you come as backup. I'm fine its my fourth beer I don't need you here. Neither does Cas"
The words he spoke were intended to hurt you and it works. He doesn't usually say hurtful things like that towards you its usually your own insecurities and other people that do. But you choose to not feel it at the moment instead you look at him and tell Cas that he can leave. He places his hand on your shoulder and squeezes it letting you know that whatever Dean says isn't true before leaving.
Dean is taking another drink of his beer and you take it from his hands and toss it in the trash. This earns a incoherent mumble of words and you just shake your head. "come on dean you stink of sweat, dirt and alcohol. Lets get you cleaned up we could both use a shower"
As you spoke you were running your hand up and down his arm gently and it seemed to calm him down as he leaned into you. "never seemed to bother you before" This earns him a light slap on his arm as you begin to walk the both of you to the shower.
Closing the door you see him taking off his clothes and then you go over and start the water making sure its a nice temperature for you both. Then you take off your clothes and hold his hands as you walk under the water.
Making sure that he was the one under the water first you run your hands through his hair and then hold his face in your hands. "Dean Love." He looks down at you but doesn't respond "Me and Castiel love you. and so does your brother. Hell there are a lot of people who love you. You aren't alone in this. I promise"
He pulls you into a kiss and its sloppy but you both keep it short because tonight is not the night. "alright now clean yourself up. Ill wash your hair"
When you grab the shampoo he begins to wash off his body. You watch as the dirt washes off him and goes down the drain and then you begin to wash his hair. This results to him resting his head against your chest. Its the reason you choose to wash his hair at times like this.
Your hands run through his hair and scratch gently at his scalp. The whole time you do this he is resting against you. Only pulling away to rinse his hair out and then you do your own routine before the both of you get out and into your pajamas.
Dean had only put on a pair of sweatpants while you put on sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt that was Castiel's. Dean was the first in bed and you got in beside him. When you both get comfortable you grab the remote and turn on scooby doo. This causes Dean to laugh a bit and he watches it.
You knew that Dean would be apologizing tomorrow for how he acted because its something he has been working on is apologizing for when he says or does things that are hurtful to people he loves. So tonight you push it to the side.
Hours later Castiel comes back to the bunker and sees the both of you asleep. He had been out looking for anything that would help us all so it was nice to see the two people he loves most asleep without any worries.
He walks over to the bed and covers the both of you up and kisses you and deans forehead. When he does this he uses some of his power to enter your dreams so he could make sure they were good ones before he walks off after saying "I love you both"

nothing would’ve been better than an episode where dean is being all sweet on cas and there’s a voice over of dean saying things like “cas is just this cute dorky lil guy” and it cuts to cas with angel powers flaring as he takes out 5 demons at once. “he’s so angelic in all the conventional and unconventional ways,” while cas is beating a werewolf bloody. “he always makes me laugh” and it cuts to cas as he’s glaring down a vampire. “he watches movies with me and wears a cowboy hat for me” flashes to cas as he’s tearing heaven apart. “he’s my best friend, and I think I love him… yeah, I love him,” and cas is casually throwing angel blades at monsters. and the end of the episode is dean and cas being domestic and dean’s like “I didn’t see you today, what were you up to?” and cas is like “nothing at all” even though he was out chasing monsters, but then he leans down and kisses dean and it’s soft and tender and gentle and dean smiles and is like “movie date night, sunshine?” and cas smiles so brightly it rivals the sun as he says, “anything for you, dean.”

—  HAND OF BLOOD
Tumblr media
SUMMARY : “Hey can i request one where the reader is Dean Winchester wife and she just found that she is whatever supernatural creature and him just cuddling with her and help her using her new powers?? something fluff and cute” - anon
PAIRING : dean winchester x powered!reader (f.)
CHARACTERS :  unnamed villain, sam winchester, castiel
WARNINGS/TAGS : fluff, angst, comfort, trauma
WORD COUNT : 1.0k
A/N : bullet for my valentine song title. trying some new ways of writing bc university sucks, anyway, you can imagine the reader to be whatever magical/super-powered being from the show, I didn’t specify x
Tumblr media
“Stop holding back, you could… you know… do something for me and I will let you go, alive,” the dark voice of the monster before you made a shiver run up your spine. Your stomach churned nervously, but you gave in anyway.
“Do what?” You sobbed, tugging helplessly at the chains around tour wrist.
You felt a warm breath by your cheek and you inhaled sharply, your body instantly tightened with stress.
“A little bit of magic,” the words brushed against your ear and neck. And you didn’t think you could shiver any harder than you already were, but your body shook with a shudder and your muscles clenched tighter, somehow.
“I can’t do magic,” you whispered with defeat, trying not to cry when a hand squeezed around your throat. “I’m not a witch,” you struggled to breathe through the tight grip.
Whatever the thing was that held you captive, squeezed your throat so tight you could feel your frantic heart beat against its palm. Then, the grip loosened with a frustrated growl, an impatient sound, desperate.
“But you are something,” it insisted through clenched teeth, “something very powerful.”
“I’ve never even… I think you’ve got the wrong person,” you argued weakly. Your body slowly relaxed and you accepted whatever your fate was.
You didn’t bother letting your eyes fall shut, you didn’t bother trying to squint and making something out of your surroundings. The pitch black room revealed nothing to you. All you could smell was dank air and dirt, hear the echo of yours and your captor’s breath against concrete walls and floor. The occasionally clink of the metal that bound you to the floor, the rustle of leaves with the shuffle of feet.
“I don’t have the wrong person. I think you’ve been holding back,” the voice grinned and two hands pressed against either side of your temples. “Why don’t we go back to the biggest hits? To all those times you’ve felt powerless?”
Tumblr media
“You know… this doesn’t change the way I see you,” Dean promised, kissing your forehead. He absentmindedly played with a strand of your hair and kissed your cheek when you sniffled.
“I can’t… what if I can’t control it?” You whispered, wiping away tears with your sleeve as they flowed from your eyes with no end in sight.
“Hey, you’re such a control freak, I doubt you’ll let your powers beat you,” Dean grinned in attempts to cheer you up, but you were barely able to muster up a smile. You generally found Dean hilarious, something he knew well enough to find a way to cheer you up easily. Even when you had no idea what he was saying, he always made you laugh. It was always that dorky, boyish grin of his that made you crack up.
Dean shimmied down on the bed so he could face you. He sighed and gave you a weak smile. You were embarrassed of your wet eyes and swollen lips, but you knew Dean wasn’t judging you, and that’s why letting yourself fall apart was always so easy to do when you were with him.
“We’ve gone through worse and we’ve come out pretty damn alright.” His hand landed gently on your flushed, hot cheek. You finally looked into his gentle eyes, through watery vision and sticky lashes he still looked beautiful. “I promise that I will help you in any way that I can, sweetheart. So will, Sam. And so will Cas. We’re a family, you’re not gunna do this alone. Okay?”
Dean waited for you to nod. You almost couldn’t breath with the way he looked at you. With his soft green eyes glowing with determination, and kindness, and empathy. It hurt so much that you just nodded, and buried your face in his chest so that all the emotions in his eyes wouldn’t get to you and make you break down again.
He held you close to him and chuckled softly. He pressed his lips to the top of your head and soothingly rubbed your back while you clung to the warm layers on his body.
Tumblr media
“Oh, sweetheart,” Dean gasped out a laugh, hunching over with his hands on his knees. “You’re not dangerous at all, you just suck at this. So… don’t be nervous.”
You glared at Dean as he struggled to breathe and wheezed out another laugh. Sam sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose with one arm crossed over his firm chest. Even Cas seemed irritated with Dean; he rolled his eyes and let his hands slap against his thighs in defeat, his powers slowly fading.
“This isn’t easy and you’re doing great,” Sam encouraged you and squeezed your shoulder reassuringly when he made his way across to you. “Cas, again,” he tipped his head towards you and returned next to Dean to elbow him in his ribs.
Dean squirmed and wiped tears of laughter from his eyes, his eyes shimmering with flirtatiousness when they opened back up to you and the glare you sent his way. He wiggled his brows and smacked his tongue above the roof of his mouth, and you couldn’t resist the tiny smile from growing on your face. Or the blush that began to heat up your face, the skipped beat of you once fearful heart, the clench of your stomach. Yup, Dean still had it.
“Try to… um, just don’t hit us… well, you can hit Dean,” Sam snickered, ignoring the glare Dean shot at him. You grinned when Dean glanced back at you and you picked yourself. He sneaked behind Sam to hide from you and the way you unfortunately sucked at using your abilities. Most of your anxiousness disappeared, and Cas smiled reassuringly when he powered up.
You didn’t think things could be any better, all things considered. New powers, new you. But most importantly, your relationship with Dean, Sam, and Cas seemed to get better in the past seven months, like this one bad thing that happened to you didn’t get between you… instead, it wove the four of you together, and squeezed tight like a knitted blanket. Despite the fear, the anxiety, the uncertainty of what you were now, you felt warm, safe, and secure. With the people you call your family.
You had Dean to thank for that. And everyone else’s for falling into your life so perfectly.

adventures in catsitting (castiel x reader)
Tumblr media
a/n: basically i just had this thought of castiel catsitting my cat (her name is Butters, and yes, she's featured in this fic) and it made my brain go all mushy bc i just love him so much. anyway.

Watching a cat shouldn’t be too hard, for all intents and purposes. Watching your cat, earning your favor, well that would just be a bonus. Unfortunately, Castiel doesn’t understand cats that much.
“Okay, that should be about it,” you said, hands on your hips as you looked at the angel next to you. He was carefully analyzing all the different things you laid out on the counter: toys, food, meds, etc. “Any questions?”
“She eats baby food? Not cat food?” Castiel clarified, pointing to the turkey Gerbers still in its twelve-pack on the counter.
“Well, she’s a baby, and it’s better for her stomach,” you chuckled.
“I thought she was a grown cat,” Castiel says, confused. He looks over at said cat, a stocky cream-colored Persian you referred to as Butters. To him, she seemed to be full-grown.
“Every cat is just a little baby, even when they’re grown,” you give Butters a scratch behind her ears, and she lets out a meep sound reminiscent of what you dub ‘a sad trumpet.’ Castiel still looks confused. “Never mind….will you be okay? It’s just for two days while I finish this case.”
“I will be sufficient,” Castiel almost puffs out his chest at this.
"Great! You're the best, Cas," you pat his arm, grabbing your duffel bag and leaving out the front door. Castiel stands still briefly before looking at the fluffy creature beside him. Wide yellow eyes peer up at him, blinking. He looks back at the detailed paper you wrote, ensuring he got everything. He wanted to make sure he did his best.
It was around night that Castiel started to worry. He had entertained Butters for a sufficient time, then sat with her on the couch while she watched a movie. (You said that she liked Finding Nemo, so Castiel put it on. He found the movie to be strangely sad). It was her dinner time, and Castiel had put out a scoop of baby food as required, except that it had been hours, and she wasn't eating it. She was sitting on the couch, letting out gentle purrs and seeming fine. Still, Castiel was concerned. He decided to call Dean for answers.
"I think something is wrong with the cat," Cas said into the phone. "It won't eat its dinner. It's just sleeping."
"I'm sure it's fine," Dean sighed, obviously not wanting to be a part of this conversation.
"If there's something wrong with the cat--"
"Cats are weird. They don't always follow set schedules," Dean groaned, feeling agitated. He took a second before responding. "Is it fine otherwise?"
"...Yes."
"Then the cat is fine," Dean replied. "Call me when something actually useful pops up."
Dean hung up, and Castiel looked back towards the cat. It had woken up, blinking its eyes at the angel. It let out another meep, tucking its paws underneath it. Castiel gave it a pat on the head.
"Your food is over there," Cas pointed towards the food bowl. Butters just meeped again. "I just told you where your food was." Another meep. "I don't understand."
Butters, eventually exasperated, got up and jumped off the couch, walking over to Cas. She rubbed against his pant legs, walking back and forth and making more noises. Castiel gave her a few pets, showing a small smile when she responded happily to his ministrations. She rolled over, showing her belly, and Castiel gave it a few hesitant strokes. Eventually, Butters grew tired and walked over to her food bowl. The angel let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
You came home after two days, finding your cat and your angel sitting on the couch watching Luca on the TV. Both of them looked equally enraptured.
“You survived,” you smiled, earning Castiel's attention. He turned towards you with soft blue eyes, and your heart skipped a beat.
“It meows a lot,” Castiel stated, looking toward the feline companion beside him. She let out a meep in response.
“She has lots of opinions,” you chuckle, walking over and giving a big squish to your cat. She purrs happily, even letting you boop her nose. Cas looks at you both fondly. Without really sparing a second thought, you leaned over, kissing Castiel’s cheek and enjoying when a red flush coated his face. “You’re the best, Castiel.”
Cas sat there for a minute, even after you’d gone to the kitchen for some water, even after he couldn’t feel your lips on his cheek anymore. All he could think was that if catsitting meant getting a kiss, he’d have to catsit for you more often.

Starved.
That's what he was.
Starved for this touch, for this connection. Starved too, he thinks to himself as he stands there in the middle of their improvised living room in the bunker with Castiel's arms wrapped tightly around him and his forehead pressed against the column of Castiel's throat as he hides his face against his skin, starved for this gentleness.
The one he has never been shown before.
Because he has been touched, but rarely so lovingly, with such care, like he was something precious.
Dean made his peace a long time ago with the fact he wasn't worthy of this kind of attention, tender touches and even more tender words. He made his peace a long time ago with the fact he wasn't supposed to expect them either.
He made his peace a long time ago with the fact he was unlovable.
Too complicated, like a puzzle with too many missing pieces; too stubborn, always ready to angrily fight back. His life too dangerous and he, well, simply too broken.
And then Cas came along, like a wrecking ball, ready to tear all his walls, every deep-rooted belief and self doubt apart.
Not that long ago Dean would have been enough of an idiot to shy away from this embrace, claiming he didn't need coddling. Here he is now, not even hugging back, just letting himself be held, because Cas was feeling like it. Touch-starved like him, he is, hungry for this intimacy between them.
It can be natural and easy as breathing, he can be loved this way, he deserves to be loved this way, right in this arms that will always be a home for him, and by these blue eyes that would never judge him.
"My Dean," Castiel says, a smile on his lips, terribly fond, he moves back and cups the side of Dean's face in his hands to get him to look back at him.
He never knew it could feel like this, he never knew the hunger would one day be gone.

Hi, I hope you're having a good day!
Would you write a fluff fic with Dean needing comfort from his bf after a bad hunt? Dean just being clingy and wanting affection and love.
the confinement of a hunter | d. winchester
Tumblr media
pairing : dean winchester x hunter male reader
wc : roughly 900
a/n : hii anon thank you :3 i am having a great day so far i'm just trying to force myself out of writers block LMFAOOOO you're a great deal of help in that aspect
content warnings : fluff/angst, comfort, mentions of death and blacking out
The door to the bunker opens with a heavy noise that reverberates off the concrete surroundings, breaking the silence of the cavern. Dean walks in—and Sam and Cas aren't with him.
You glance your head up, but only for a brief second, not enough to look at him; you knew who it was by his footsteps anyway. "Oh, Dean, I bought you some stout, it's on the table. I noticed we were out again, have you been—" Your voice trails off when you glance back up, only this time your gaze lingers and you notice the heavy expression sink further from his face. "Dean, sweetheart, what's..."
He stumbles down the stairs, almost having to pull his own weight—if you didn't know any better you'd presume he was about to collapse. He sighs dismissively, "I don't know."
There's a short moment of silence before you speak up again. "Where's Cas, and Sam? I'd assume they were with you."
"They're out."
"...Where?"
"I don't know. They're out at a... reading convension or something stupid like Sam always suggests."
Dean's voice raises slightly but there's an unusually tired edge to it. You go to bring it up but you're cut off when he collapses in your arms, digging his head deep into your chest. The first sign was his offhand behaviour; the second, this; the third, and most important, was the fact that he ignored the alcohol sitting visibly on the table.
You adjust how you're sitting, letting him rest more comfortably on your lap. Your breathing is getting less steady as you process just how likely something is wrong. "...Talk about it with me. Please."
When you notice he isn't listening, or much rather he was, just ignoring you, you raise your palm to his chin, lifting it up to meet your eyes full of concern. "Dean, talk to me."
"..."
He turns in your arms. "I don't... I couldn't save her." He mumbles.
You stay silent. He forces himself to sound composed, but you know his emotional suppression is coming into play. He feels you sigh deeply and looks up from your chest, clinging his arms around your waist. "What?"
"You know that I love you, right?" You say with a tender tone to your voice. You drag your hands through his hair softly, every inch of your fingertips lightly brushing his natural curls.
"I know."
"And you know that you can tell me anything. Right?"
"...I know."
"Dean... please—what happened?"
There's a few more beats before he speaks up. "I can deal with vamps, you know? They're easy to take on, easy for me—but there was this one moment where I just... blacked out. I blacked out, and it killed her."
You make sure to keep your voice soft, "I take it they don't know? Sam and Castiel?"
Dean laughs under his breath but it's clear it's ingenuine. "I didn't want to tell them I was on the mission to begin with. Why in hell's name would I tell them I killed a girl?"
"You didn't kill her, sweetheart, and deep down you know that." Your voice aches with sturdiness but the gentle tone doesn't let down, "how is it that no matter how harsh the world burns you, you always find ways to blame yourself for it being on fire?"
You feel his breath slow down quite a bit at your words, a heavy contrast to a few seconds ago where it was quick and unsteady. Dean's face falls back into your chest, nudging his head more into your freshly-washed shirt. He speaks again but his voice cracks, "I've lost so many people. Imagine how her family feels, her mother, her sister... she was innocent. That was an innocent girl."
"Time will forgive you, he knows you can't save everyone."
You run your fingertips down his left cheek, palming at his face. "You always wind up in these situations, don't you, Deano...?" You whisper lovingly, still stroking through his hair with your other hand. "Don't you worry, though... I'll be here for you. You know that, don't you? I'm here."
The bunker is empty and free of noise except for the static of voices on the TV. No matter how much you seem to focus on the show, your eyes are always drawn back to the man in front of you.
"You're beautiful."
Dean laughs into your clothing before grinning up at you. "Can't get enough of this face, huh?"
You laugh with him under your breath before dragging his face forward with one palm and kissing him gently. "Don't think I could ever get enough."
The man below melts into your kiss, clinging at your sleeves, kissing back just as tenderly, just as full as hope as the last.
You chuckle as you pull away and go to move so you can get up. "Do ya want a beer—huh?" You feel your eyebrows furrow as Dean clings to your waist despite stuck in an uncomfortable position.
His voice is mixed between fatigue and longing, "Don't get up. Not yet—just... stay here."
Your eyes widen as you burst out into a mocking grin, "No beer for the Dean Winchester? Holy shit, I must be dreaming."
Dean shoots you a glare, but you don't move. You stay put—and this clingness may not wear off any time soon, or, at least until the others get back.

February 2024 Angel Fish Awards
Tumblr media
(Angel Fish design by @slytherkins!!)
Every month all of you fantastic writers work your asses off to post some truly incredible stories. Our Angel Fish Awards are the way for all of us, as a community of writers and readers, to lift each other up and give praise to those who have captured our attention and deserve a few kind words. (Click here to learn more about how to nominate a fic for an award!)
Nominated by @spn-fanfic-reblog-writes
Pack by @spnexploration
I love this story. I love the pack dynamics and how they all are despite Dean being the Pack Alpha. I love that they even have an extended pack as well (Claire, for example). I love that the reader has to learn the world and shows a very real world freak out over the information as well as how the pack dynamic and tactics work with and without Dean and Sam. I love how gentle and human Dean and the Reader are together. It’s a very relatable story with new relationships. I related to the Reader’s self-view very, very much. I’m gonna start including pack dynamics in my own a/b/o fics. I love that idea, so so much. Evolution is slow to change, so even if a/b/o was an evolutionary change, it doesn’t mean that all aspects would change with modern day society. Please check the story out and the author. Thanks!
The Cala Lillies of Winchester by @littleangelcassie
This is such an amazing story! Castiel instantly connects with Dean who falls asleep on him while on the bus and Cas being Cas decides to take him home and keep him. Doesnt take long for Dean to agree. It’s an amazing, challenging love story from there that encompasses family, children, health and home, and the challenges of in-laws for their personal and religious views. It’s beautiful and terrifying, and worth the tears.
The Heartbreak Hotel by @naughtystiel
You have to read this is such a fluffy story. It’s like so heart warming, chest squeezing, heart racing and so angsty. I love it. It’s so fluffy that it’s schmoopy. That’s how affectionate and caring it is. Let the story take care of you. Trigger Warning: cheating, survivor’s guilt, bad parent Mary Winchester

I don’t even go to the school of ABO, but, Kasey, love, you killed me. It’s emotional and anxious and hot, and SB is the Omega. Yes. Good.
Spotless by @stusbunker
FAKE. DATING. I’m epically behind in college comments for this, but it’s so fun and sexy and Stuie!
~*~*~
Nominated by @glygriffe
Wait for the Ricochet by @bobwess
I nominate this fic - first, because it is by Bob Wess and I think everybody in the SPN fandom should read at least one Bob Wess story - second, because it’s a time travel WIP where Dean and Sam meet their younger selves. 16-year-old Dean getting all big brother-y with 36-year-old Sam is precious, and Castiel serving as a buffer between the two versions of Dean is quite an interesting read.
Tumblr media
(Divider by @glygriffe)
THANK YOU ALL, KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK, AND AS ALWAYS, HAPPY WRITING!
- From your Admins and Manta Rays, @manawhaat, @mrswhozeewhatsis, @mariekoukie6661, @thoughtslikeaminefield, @spencereliotwinchester, and @heavenssexiestangel!

summary; you and castiel build a gingerbread house together
wc; 825
warnings; none :)
authors note; short little fiction for my first cas fic 🫶
⛥ ⛥ ⛥
“i do not understand the purpose of this.” castiel said holding two walls of the gingerbread house you two were building.
your concentration broke from castiels monotonous voice. “cas, baby, there’s no purpose it’s just for fun.” you resumed icing the corners together.
earlier today, you were out running errands for the bunker, which included grocery shopping.
you stopped by the small little christmas section just to browse. you had already decorated with what little you had. what caught your eye was the display of various gingerbread houses. you hadn’t done one of those since you were little. grabbing the standard house, you thought it’d be a fun idea to build with cas.
when you arrived home, you called cas from the kitchen.
no matter how long you know cas, him flying in anywhere always gave a scare of some kind. “what is it, dear?” he said.
“look what i bought us!” you sang out, holding up the gingerbread house box. castiel only furrowed his bored and tilted his head, not understanding what that is. “it’s a gingerbread house! you get all these pieces of a house made out of gingerbread and you stick them together with icing and decorate with candy!”
cas took the box from your hands and inspected it. he opened the box and dumped out its contents onto the kitchen table and picked up the small tube of icing it came with. “don’t worry, i bought more icing; these things never come with enough.”
there were also gingerbread dough packaged up near the house kits. you hoped to make a little tiny version of you and cas; maybe sam and dream too if you had enough.
“c’mon, let’s get working!” you said, which led you to right now.
“why use stale cookies to make a house? why not cardboard? or wood?”
you sighed, removing yourself from the house. you set the icing down and took a heavy glass and propped it on the inside of the walls so it could rest and cas could take his hands off.
you gently took his hands in your, “honey, it’s just a silly little tradition around the holidays,” you giggled, “it’s supposed to be fun. it stays up just like any decoration.” cas starts to understand, he smiles. “okay?” cas just nods. you reach up and give him a kiss on the cheek. he loved how gentle your kisses were, wether it be on the cheek or on the lips.
the two of you finished the house. it was beautifully messy. castiel took the liberty of decorating the side of the house.
he didn’t necessarily understand how to use a piping bag at first but he got the hang of it. he also loved the gumdrops, even stealing a few.
you giggled when he had accidentally wiped some icing on his cheek. you reached up and licked the little bit off; castiels cheeks flushed pink, not expecting that, at all.
“i have an idea!”
“what is it, pretty,” cas said
you blushed at the nickname before continuing. “we should make each other out of gingerbread people, i’ll make you and you make me!”
castiel nodded and smiled at the idea. you grabbed the dough and you and castiel began the roll out separate pieces. you took the cookie cutter and you each cut out like gingerbread people. there was enough left so you decided to make wing for castiel, sam, and dean.
the cookies went into the oven for a bit before you took them out. they had to cool off so you and castiel sat down and finish what little candy was left. you introduced the idea of tossing something his way and catching it in his mouth; castiel had gotten really good at it.
the cookies cool and you began frosting. you separated the icing so you can use it different colors. the both of you worked very hard on creating little gingerbread versions of you; and sam and dean.
when you finished, you presented them to each other. castiel smiled at his frosted wings. castiel had made little gingerbread you wear your favorite shirt.
after presenting them, you had put it on display, making your gingerbread people hold hands. sam and dean were set up too, on the opposite side of you two.
you took a step back and admired your messy little gingerbread house, it was perfect. castiel took his hand in your and smiled at the house too. you glanced up at him, “shall we go set it up?” castiel nodded, kissing the top of you head before grabbed the tray it was on.
the two of you headed to the living room and the two of you decided to set it on top of mantle.
“can we do this every year? can it be our tradition?” castiel looked down at you.
“of course, cas.” you smiled.
the two of you stood and admired your little family of gingerbread.

Congrats on 100 readers!! 🎉 For the celebration;
A soft, safe morning where Dean wakes up bleary eyed and groggy (per usual) and Cas lays beside him with a gentle smile (he’s been waiting for him to wake up for a while, enjoying the quiet in the meantime).
I hope you’re having a great day/night!
Thank you anon!! I hope you have the best day/night too!!
(I am doing a lil “drop your prompt in my ask box and I’ll write a Drabble for you” to celebrate 100 readers, if you’re interested pls join in!)
Here is your request:
Since Castiel had turned human, he had come to realise there was so much more enjoyment in little things.
Maybe being an eternal celestial being did not make you focus on the small details of human life.
But the way the sun rays, filtered by the curtains, softly danced on Dean’s face while he was sleeping, made Castiel finally realise why humans were so, well, human.
Castiel caressed Dean’s cheek with the back of his fingers, smiling at the constellation of freckles that adorned the hunter’s face.
He noticing how softer Dean’s features were, when he was not frowning, constantly worrying about Sam, heaven, hell or the end of the world.
The touch made Dean groan, and his long eyelashes fluttered open.
“You know,” the hunter croaked, before clearing his throat, “one of the perks of being human, is sleep, Cas.”
Castiel smiled.
“Good morning, Dean.” He simply answered, leaning in to press a kiss against his lovers forehead.
He felt the skin under his lips move, and understood that Dean was smiling.
“Sleeping is necessary, I understand that.” Castiel stated, as he moved back, leaning on the palm of his hand, perched up on his elbow so he could look at Dean once more.
“But I’d rather sleep less but get to see you wake every morning.”
Yes, Cas was smiling, but he spoke those words like they were the most obvious thing in the world.
Dean’s cheeks flushed red, and as always, when he was flustered, he didn’t really know what to do with himself.
“Sap.” Was all that the hunter managed to say, before wrapping his hands around Cas’s torso and digging his warm face in the former angel’s chest.
Cas ran a hand through Dean’s hair and lightly chuckled.
“I love you too, Dean.”

“With Cas,” Sam presses on, but his voice has gone gentle, like he knows that he’s dangerously close to cracking every facade Dean has worked so hard to maintain for so many years. “You don’t have to do anything different. You don’t have to give anything up, you don’t have to change anything about yourself. He’s already seen what an asshole you are before coffee, and how goddamn messy you leave the bathroom,” That earns a surprised laugh out of Dean and he’s finally able to look up again. “Hell, Dean, the dude’s seen your literal soul. If he knows you that well and he’s stupid enough to stay by your side the way he has, that’s meant to be.”
Dean clears his throat, but it doesn’t do anything to make the lump that’s formed there go away. “Yeah, he’s pretty great.”
“He is.” Sam agrees. He pauses for a second, like he’s contemplating whether or not to say one more thing. Dean can see it in his gaze, the exact moment he decides to go for the kill. “And I can trust him to take care of you, you know? He’d do anything to protect you and keep you safe. He gave up the entire Heavenly Host for you, Dean.”
“For us,” Dean tries to correct, because if he doesn’t , he might actually lose the ability to speak completely.
“For you.” Sam corrects back. “I’m just part of your packaged deal. But if I hadn’t been here and it had been just you, he still would’ve done it.”
It’s not often that Dean allows himself to think of what Cas gave up— not because he doesn’t appreciate it or recognize the magnitude of it, but because it makes him feel completely and utterly inadequate. Because Cas gave up literally everything for him and he’s— he’s just some guy. For all that every God, Monster, and Demon seems to love the taste of his name on their tongue, he’s really not anything special. He’s just some guy who was too weak to sustain the never-ending torture of hell and instead gave in to the worst side of himself, turning himself into the kind of monster he would kill if he ever ran across it. He has trust issues, he has anger issues, he has— a whole hell of a lot more than that, to say the least. He’s not a good person, not an honest or honorable person.
He’s not the kind of person an Angel of the Lord should even look twice at, let alone the kind of person an Angel of the Lord should choose.
Cas could’ve had it all— every happiness heaven had to offer. He could’ve stayed in God’s good graces, in the good graces of the other angels. He could’ve had anything he wanted and instead he chose to sit in the backseat of the Impala, to watch over Dean and Sam while they sleep in every shitty motel the country has to offer. He chose to never eat a homecooked meal, to barely even have a place to call home. He chose what Dean would describe as the worst possible life and honestly? He doesn’t seem like he’s ever looked back.
And when Dean examines that too closely, he just feel like absolute shit. Because Cas deserves everything. He deserves every happiness he gave up, every opportunity he turned down. He deserves more than Dean can ever give him. And Dean often feels like a selfish asshole— dragging Sam back into the life because he didn’t want to be alone, selfishly trying to keep people close to him the they were better on their own— but he’s never felt like more of a selfish piece of shit than he does when he realizes that he’s glad Cas chose to stay down here with them— with him.
“Yeah, well,” Dean’s voice is rough, raw. He feels like he’s bleeding somewhere internally. “It wouldn’t be the right choice.”
“Choosing you is always the right choice, Dean.” Cas’ voice sounds from the doorway suddenly and both Dean and Sam whip their heads in that direction when they realize he’s there. “I understand that I have my work cut out for me in terms of making you realize that, but I will never regret choosing you.”
Dean clenches his jaw and looks away at the same time that Sam breaks out into a smile. It’s small, but it’s genuine and grateful, and Dean thinks that maybe he could just sock both of them in the face and this unbearably vulernable moment could finally pass.
“Cas,” Sam says after a second, “I’d say welcome to the family, but you’ve been part of the family for a long time already.”
God, every part of Dean aches. Everything inside of him feels like it’s bending and then snapping completely as Cas walks fully into the room and meets Sam for a hug, as they smile at each other. The two people who mean the most in the entire world to Dean, and they care about each other in a way Dean could only dream that they’d be able to. It’s absolutely unbearable, how happy he is. He’s so fucking happy that it hurts, a deep ache, a brittle and tender feeling. He doesn’t think his bones are strong enough to withstand it and he thinks that soon he may just fall apart completely.
“Your blessing still means a lot, Sam.” Cas is saying with a hand clapped on Sam’s shoulder. Neither of them are directly looking at Dean but he knows that they’re both paying attention to him anyway, their gazes fixed on him out of the corners of their eyes.
“Hey, I had no choice. I was stuck with him from birth. But he’s alright, all things considered.” Sam is joking and Dean thinks that maybe if he just starts screaming, it would do something to dull these emotions. “So if you’re dumb enough to choose him, well, I’m not going to say no to that.”
Cas shakes his head a little as he lets out a huff of a laugh. “I am.” Is all he says.
It’s such a simple answer, but it encompasses so much. It encompasses every fight they’ve had, every betrayal they’ve managed to pave over. It encompasses the taste of bad blood that stained the space between them so many times as much as it encompasses all the times Dean dropped to his knees and prayed— to Cas, to God, to whoever the hell would listen— begging for Cas’ safety, for his return, for the knowledge that he would always be there. It encompasses every time they’ve been the cause of each other’s wounds as much as it encompasses every time they’ve tenderly and carefully dressed the wounds caused by other people.
It’s only two words, but it says multitudes. Dean had done his part in confessing, in prying every last word out of the shadowed corners of his heart, even with the curse had lifted and the ability to lie has returned to him. And Cas had certainly returned the confession, though it seemed to physically pain him much less to do so. And despite that, hearing Cas claim him to Sam like that, openly and easily acknowledging everything they’ve done through with words that are meant to be a promise for the future— well, Dean really thinks he might be at the limit of all he can bear.
“But make sure you take care of him, alright?” Sam adds, more somber. Even though he’d already expressed his knowledge that Cas would, unfailingly. Even though Cad had, over and over again. But there’s something in the brotherly codebook that demands Sam verbalize it anyway. Dean knows because he would’ve done the same thing.
“I mean,” Cas pulls his expression back into something serious, too. One of his angel faces that gives away very little emotion. “Your brother is reckless, and self-sacrificing. He’s stubborn, too, and almost never listens to reason.”
“Alright, alright—“ Dean tries to interject.
But Cas keeps going, the corner of his lip quirked up, giving away his amusement and sarcasm while Sam laughs openly. “He shoots first and sometimes asks questions later, and I honestly am not yet certain if he knows what a vegetable is.” And then Cas turns his eyes to Dean and the other half of his mouth turns up, too, so he’s actually smiling, and his voice is much softer when he adds, “but I promise to try my best.”
Dean meets his gaze like he has so many times in the past, but it’s completely different now. He’s much better at reading and understanding the emotions in Cas’s eyes, in the lines of his expression. But he also doesn’t have to turn away as the warmth blooms on his chest. He’s allowed to feel that now, to embrace it— if he ever figures out how.
“You’ve got good points.” Sam claps Cas on the shoulder, back to full-blown amusement. “I should probably be wishing you good luck with him instead.”
Cas nods solemnly, “I will need it.”
