What if dinosaur means bird-ancestors the way caveman means human-ancestors O.O
I mean look, there is a legitimate distinction between Mesozoic and Cenozoic dinosaurs. But that distinction isn’t “bird”, bc so many Mesozoic dinosaurs (arguably, all) were very birdie. That distinction is just Neornithes, or Not Neornithes
That said, caveman is a fake thing just as “classical” dinosaurs are fake

"Akita, Tumak!" Many times I've quipped that I should be proficient in Stone Age-speak given my love of Caveman Movies, and now I truly can be thanks to the pressbook from "When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth" (essentially my life story). Hammer Studios created this primordoal dialect for their Prehistoric Trilogy, the words having multiple connotations depending on context. Years later, the comedic spoof "Caveman" would employ a similar gimmick by handing out translation cards to audiences so that they could follow the movie's vernacular.

okay i was watching stuff like the good dinosaur, the croods, etc. and i noticed that despite light skin only just evolving around 40,000 years ago (and cavemen generally being a thing since 100,000 to 300,000 years ago), most cavemen in media are very, very white. like, same shade of pale white.
but then i thought some more and realized that with some cavemen interpretations being very animal or ape like, it’s a bit of a conflict whether cavemen should be portrayed with dark skin due to a history of black people being dehumanized and/or compared to apes.
all that combined, i genuinely am curious
also reblogs are appreciated:D

I hate to tell people how to make their Fakemon, I think that level of highly personalized creativity is what makes this still such a popular avenue for fanart even after all these years. That said I still feel like something isn’t coming across to my fellow artists when designing Paradox Pokemon, the so-called Past or Ancient Pokemon go a bit further than what we think of when we hear those terms
It might be more accurate to describe them as Prehistoric or, to get as evocative as possible, Dinosaur Times Pokemon. I’ve seen a few descriptions of their Paradox Fakemon that reference early tribes or some level of human interference and that’s your first sign that you haven’t gone far enough back. If you want to design a Pokemon from a few hundred years ago a potential Pokemon Legends spinoff could give you options to explore that, you need to go back at least a million years or it really doesn’t qualify for the Past Paradox title
