It is distinguished by its mesmerising frills and colourful scales, which both entrances prey with bioluminescent patterns and warns rivals and predators of its toxic nature. An enlarged throat sac delivers a terrible venom, but in truth it is the mind of Alkanodos that is its deadliest weapon, for it is a cunning hunter that makes the most of any given opportunity. Alkanodos is a carnivore, a skilled predator who claims a variety of prey by combining its physical prowess with its smarts and ailments. Traditionally it will rely on ambush and exploiting terrain, such as attempting to corral prey in uneven terrian or natural traps. An Alkanodos will diligently memorise its chosen territory to determine the best use of its environment. As such, it is highly dangerous to many monsters and so quite confident in attacking whatever it pleases. Humans should be advised to steer clear of the brute wyvern; while usually too small to invoke Alkanodos's attention, it will not hesitate to snap up a quick snack if it feels it can move quickly enough. Field workers can use flash bombs or dung pods to dissuade its opportunism. While its claws and jaws are its most obvious weapons, Alkanodos has other ways to bring down prey and rivals alike. The various frills on its body resonate a strange bioluminescence that proves mesmerizing to most. With these, Alkanodos can inflict Confusion on monster and hunter alike, leaving them vulnerable to its attacks. Additionally, the venom gland in its throat can quickly swell up and dispense venom with shocking accuracy, projected as a thin high-pressure beam that Alkanodos will aim at the eyes. And as aforementioned, Alkanodos is intelligent enough to make use of its environment, occasionally flinging debris at the target or trying to push them back into a natural trap. Alkanodos uses its bioluminescent frills to communicate with its own kind, alongside a surprising array of vocalisations. It is reasonably tolerant to its species so long as personal boundaries are respected. The larger and more colourful males establish dominance with dazzling displays to intimidate rivals; very rarely does any dispute result in violence. The smaller females gravitate to the most mesmerizing male; he graciously handles most of the hunting while they collectively rear a brood, but will only tolerate his children for a short while before driving them out. Between its cunning and ailments, Alkanodos is a threatening monster (Low Rank - 4, High/Master Rank - 3) who should only be considered by experienced hunters. Aiming attacks at its mouth when it swells its venom glands can help disrupt its ranged attack, and focusing on the legs and fragile membranes can impede its effectiveness. A competent and intelligent predator, Alkanodos can usually assert itself by way of mesmerizing or poisoning competitors. While it must be wary of the likes of Rathian, it is overall a highly successful predator. It is the nemesis and principle predator to Paraphan, relying on its venom and mobility to bypass the herbivore's paralyzing defences. However, Paraphan can be aided by the temnoceran Jansilla, who will join hands against Alkanodos and drive off the brute wyvern with teamwork. - Thank you for reading and take care.
