You know what? I am going to give you a boost with Patcher, because I think u two would be kyute and you two deserve lots of love🧡🧡🧡

After a few weeks of you showing up in Patcher's office, the chief medic finds himself expecting you to be there the next day as well.

It got to the point, where he is doing his work without being wary of what you might do if he doesn’t look.

Sometimes he would even talk with you, chat with you past his sleeping hours and ask you of your opinions on several study related subjects.

He started to care about you. And by the stars how much he loathes himself for it. Patcher knows that one day, one of you two will get hurt because of it.

Yet at the same time he can’t find himself to loath you as well. In the contrary. Whenever he thinks about you, his heart seems to grow back, filling his body with warmth and a tingling sensation, he thought he would never be able to experience again.

It is dangerous. He knows but he is so tired. So tired of being hurt and alone. Maybe he can just this once allow himself hope. Hope to at least leave a little impact on someone else's life. Hope to be loved… To have a home…

The next day you are not in his office. It surprises him, but he shrugs it off. You might be busy. He tries to not think about it much and focuses on his work.

The second day Patcher frowns, negative thoughts start to gnaw on his mind and small, fragile heart. Maybe you did become tired of him. Maybe he waited too long, gave himself too much time to get used to you. Maybe you realized that you deserve someone better, someone who isn’t covered by so many scars, someone who doesn’t scare the shinies with one look.

Patcher tries to shield himself away from those thoughts. It is for the best. For both of you.

The third day is generally a bad day. He had nightmares of his past, causing him to wake up after just one hour of sleep. The tortures he had to endure linger on his skin, itching some scars open.

His mood drops even more as it seems that you won’t visit him anymore. It’s his fault. All of it. If he had only be more careful-

No that’s not the way he should think. They hurt him. It was in their hands to treat him right, but they hadn’t. And he had promised to not trust anyone again, promised to protect himself, his brothers.

But with you… You are nice, beautiful and funny. There is something in your eyes that fascinated him since the first time meeting you.

Patcher pinches the bridge of his nose. He needs to work. He needs to forget. He needs to continue. There was nothing between you two. He was a fool for hoping, for beli-

A nervous looking shiny steps in, shifting his balance from one feet to the other.

<S-Sir. There uhm- Are you- >

The medics voice is deep, tired and rough. Exhausted, he can’t bring himself to put any softness into his eyes.

<A.. A civvy needs medical attention. S-she tripped down the stairs. Sticker caught her and got her into med-bay.>

For a moment nothing happens. A civvy tripped down the stairs. She must have been on her way here since Sticker got her.

Patcher knows only one civvy, who would head here. Immediately he stands up and walks out, thanking the shiny with a little growl, as his heart starts to tremble with worry.

As the shiny had said, the chief medic finds a civvy on one of the med-bay’s free cots. He finds you on the cot. With Sticker chatting to you, to distract you from the pain.

The oldest Corrie grits his teeth together. One look is enough for him to know that you had probably sprained your arm.

Impatient he sends Sticker out, causing the younger only to grin sheepishly, while walking out.

Odd eyes roll as he walks closer to you.

It had been only two days of you not seeing him, which seems enough to get a little intimidated by him again.

His artificial and red eyes muster you intently, but with each second they become softer, warmer… caring. No worry. Now that he sees you, he knows that there is nothing to worry about.

You shake your head and flinch a little, when a rough, calloused hand inspects your arm. His eyes immediately shoot back up to meet yours, his grip becomes so light that you can barely feel it.

Patcher doesn’t apologize, instead he pulls away to get some bacta and utensils.

A few minutes it is quiet. You watch Patcher patching you up, his gaze focused on his task. His hands work, as if he had done this many times, too many times, professionally.

You almost jump as you hear his dark voice again, this time softer and with some hesitation.

A teasing thought appears in your mind, but you disregard it as he seems genuinely… upset about it.

So instead you tell him that work had stolen your time, causing you to end up dead tired in bed.

You want to apologize, feeling bad for provoking the thought of not wanting to see him anymore.

The chief medic doesn’t let you finish your apology. A hand cups your cheek and his thumb starts to tenderly caress it.

His gaze meet yours, his heart suddenly stuttering and kicking his chest.

You had wanted to see him.

Patcher wants to let you know that he had looked forward to it. That he had… missed you.

But instead his eyes move to your lips were they linger for a while.

As you don’t move away, he takes it as a sign to go for it.

He does.

Scarred lips brush against yours as gentle as possible. It is almost clumsy at first, yet with you returning it, it grows on confidence and ferocity.

Carefully he holds you close and slowly breaks the kiss, allowing you both to catch some breath.

His forehead leans against yours, odd eyes narrowed. He would have smiled if he could. The only thing that indicates his attempt, is the stinging, stabbing pain in his face.

the opening scene of the pilot of waterloo road is so great.

"i predict a riot" plays as a kid smashes a school window, girls practice a dance routine, boys handshake, kids on phones, some girls bully another girl, two teachers stand in the midst, one yawning the other smoking, and a student tells them the head master is on the roof. cut to a man throwing boxes of papers onto the students below, ranting and raving about how much he hates the place, one of the teachers from the ground runs up to stop him and the headmaster collapses in hysterics in the teachers arms as the camera pans to the sky to show the title and logo. that's how you do it! can't wait for the new season!

okay so I can't stop thinking about a nerdy prudes star trek au

Pete: Android, Chief of Science

second “son” and creation of infamous non-federation cyberneticist t'noy karaxis (because come on that just sounds like a Star Trek name)

t’noy’s first creation (ted) was considered unstable/aggressive by the federation standards and was incredibly dangerous, but when they went to handle the situation both ted and t’noy karaxis had ~mysteriously disappeared~

pete doesn’t know where they went either and he’s always very worried about them showing up again (but also, secretly, really wants at least ted to)

pete was never completely finished because of the disappearance, so he’s faulty, prone to power fluctuations (woah,,,, almost like low blood sugar,,, crazy,,,,)

he’s got an emotion chip, but it’s also faulty, in that it spikes hard into overdrive, and he has a hard time controlling it some of the time

If he’s feeling really upset/worried about something important/embarrassed he’s prone to remove it (especially when he’s younger/before he’s got his established friend-group-crew; they really try to stop him from doing that)

VERY IN LOVE WITH STEPH BUT HE DOES NOT REALLY UNDERSTAND IT AND IT’S STRESSING HIM OUT

started just as a normal science officer but like six people died and now he’s got the position– he’s also really stressed out about that precedent

he loves outer space so bad, they regularly have to reign him in on ground missions or during very dangerous space-issues because he’s just so excited about learning cool new space facts

his room is just books and experiments and a huge window so when everyone else goes to sleep he kind of just Stares out at the stars

he has little cyber-glasses that ‘help him analyze things’ but mostly he wears them because he thinks they look cool

not great with people both for android reasons and for ‘spent the vast majority of his early existence entirely alone and isolated, finishing building himself’ reasons

Steph: Half-betazoid, Security Officer (She’s….. the brawn……. he’s the brains)

okay first things first I know betazoid's irises that are all black but I've always thought it would be cool if it was their whole eye and this is my au, gene roddenberry, so leave me alone

back to actual au: her dad (human) is a high ranking starfleet officer who nepo-babies her through the academy and onto a starship but he’s incredibly open, both vocally and projecting-his-emotions wise, that he’s doing it to get rid of her

her mom (betazoid) died when she was really little and she was raised across multiple starships/bases by her dad, so she’s entirely cut off from that part of her culture

she’s flying completely blind with her emotion/mind reading abilities and from a very young age has learned how to take advantage of it for her own benefit

it’s basically masking times four hundred because she’s navigating all of her relationships and interactions based on the thoughts of those around her/what they’d like or want from her

she’s constantly subjected to the really gross thoughts of her crewmates and it’s GROSS AND BAD and has really heightened her defenses

especially in her academy days (at the behest of her friends) or when she’s feeling threatened she can and will use her mind reading abilities to be really, really mean but,,,, she doesn’t do it much anymore and does feel very bad about it

she really hates pete at first because he’s the first person she’s never been able to read the mind of and she doesn’t know how to navigate it/it’s way, way too vulnerable for her but it actually ends up making them way closer because it’s the first relationship she’s ever had based fully on trust

never actually gave a shit about star fleet or it’s missions before, she was honestly really annoyed by the academy and her dad all but forcing her to take this position, but it’s… sort of growing on her (don’t tell anyone)

Grace: Human, Medical Officer

human and incredibly proud of that

she’s like…. maybe a little prejudiced about it,,, she certainly doesn’t mean to be,,,, but she’s always the one to deliver that classic star trek ‘I thought this race didn’t have BLANK advancement, humans do this better, etc...’ lines that kicks off an episode to tell you about the new alien race of the episode

both her parents worked with star fleet but never actually made it off of earth (because they didn’t want to) so she’s her family’s equivalent of ‘kind of a rebel’ for wanting to be on a starship

she’s just a really high achiever and is treating it sort of like a mission trip to help other planets

(she also just… really wanted to and thinks it’s cool but she thinks that's kind of selfish so she keeps that a secret)

doesn’t trust pete and is at least somewhat miffed about him not needing help from medical

met steph in academy and was really, really, really excited when they got assigned on the same ship (steph was NOT)

huge stickler for rules and regulations and it’s either incredibly helpful or causes all their problems there's no in between

morally against the holodeck and no one is necessarily clear on why

because her parents worked for star fleet on earth she still lived with them during academy so being on the ship is her first time ever being apart from them and it’s causing some sort of crisis (though who know which way said crisis is going to hard pivot) (you hope it’s in a gay way but it’s also grace so it could be in a space murder way,.,., only time will tell)

Ruth: Human, Engineer

human and livid about it

desperately wants to be captain one day, and has dreams of being on the bridge, but it became clear very quickly in the academy that she was too anxious to ‘boldly go’ as far as she’d need to to achieve that :(

she’s very good at engineering but she thinks it’s boring, and she thinks just being a human amongst all these cool aliens is lame, and she kind of is under the impression everyone is judging her for it (they’re not)

don’t let this bitch around an visiting vulcans she will ask them about pon farr

she asks steph about “the phase” IMMEDIATELY (context: the phase is where mature betazoids suddenly become horny forever basically) and was like ‘is that going to happen even though ur only half??’ and steph, who had never heard about it, was HORRIFIED

met richie and pete in academy and thought they were so cool she needed them to be her friends or she’d die

they were both very okay with it

they’re all buddies :)

she helps pete with any repairs when he gets damaged or something happens- she’s the only one he trusts to do anything other than himself

(... she also wants to test if he’s actually ‘fully functional’... pete’s said no so far though :/)

spends hours on the holodeck

Richie: Andorian, Communications Officer

he’s not much of a fighter, despite being andorian, and initially wanted to go more into the artistic side of his culture but his fascination with other planets/cultures/people as well as the concept of ‘boldly going’ pushed him into joining starfleet

still draws/creates art in his free time tho

managed to be fluent in like forty different alien languages and the universal translator pisses him off in CONCEPT (even though it’s still incredibly helpful that he doesn’t Need it and is part of why he has his job)

he keeps his room freezing and pete’s the only one willing to hang out with him in it because he can’t get cold :)

he’s mad he has to wear the red uniform because of his job >:( he’s blue why can’t he wear blue >:(

constantly gets in trouble for wearing increasingly non regulation layers over his uniform

single handedly caused the tribble outbreak on their starship

he’s banned from ground duty anytime they’re on a random planet because he gets over excited and keeps almost dying from getting straight up phaser-set-to-stunned (because he’s not only andorian but he’s a particularly fragile andorian like it doesn’t even need to be a phaser pistol just a normal phaser fucks him up)

also spends hours on the holodeck, often with ruth, and they like to drag pete with them even if he doesn’t really get it

I saw your tags on the other post and pls rant about Jessica Stanley being the main character. Kthankbye ✌🏻

I was trying to find a post on my blog that imagined Jessica as the Main character Twilight.

But frankly it all boils down to Smeyer using Bella as a self insert. Now a lot of people hate that criticism, but it’s not a criticism rather than a statement of fact. Her crime isn’t basing a character on herself (or a young version of herself) it’s refusing to kill her darlings. Bella’s book description is the same description of Stephenie Meyer. (See @panlight or @fuckmeyer for more information)

As for Jessica, it’s hard to figure out what Bellas (and Stephenies) beef with Jessica as a character. I would argue because we don’t get an inkling of how Bella’s friend group was in Arizona (or if she had many friends) that Jessica is another character foil how girls shouldn’t (I will link that post here) act. Of course this is a subconscious point that the narrative makes.

Jessica is this determined high schooler who likes boys (as far as we know) who is focused on her grades but is a bit of a gossip. At least from Bella’s prespective. Also, Bella is an unreliable narrator although the narrative and the author don’t treat her as such.

I think Jessica Stanley makes more sense as the main character mostly because she has more to lose than Bella, a character who doesn’t want to make connections and is only in town because of her self sacrificing mindset. (I will not go into Bella’s mother mostly because my interpretation is that she (her mother) only got worse because the narrative needed her to and then it didn’t really matter because she got to keep her family around anyway). (Also mini rant- It’s strange that a girl who was born in that town and spent summers there until she was 13 Doesn’t know any other teenagers before moving back there especially being the Chief’s daughter. I would assume she would know everyone since she wouldn’t have been left home alone. Whatever Steph)

Jessica has a family. She’s grown up in the town. She has worked so hard for her grades. It would be interesting to see all of that come crashing down because of her involvement with vampires.

@humans4vampires just made a post pointing out the adrenaline caused by Edward’s presence and its masking via Bella’s attraction to Edward. Who’s to say that couldn’t happen to Jessica in their initial meeting.

The narrative would be the Cullens moving to Forks. Jessica gets rejected by Edward. Yes, she’s heartbroken by it, but that’s the new boys problem she’s on a mission to get all A’s. Her tight knit friend group keeps her distracted. Then one day, she’s walking around in the woods taking a break from her studies or just for some quiet time and comes across Edward hunting and covered in blood.

Edward, of course, hearing her thoughts, panics. They just moved to Forks. He can’t just let her get away, but she’s well known in the town. It’s small. He can’t kill her. So (like a dingus), he runs off.

Jessica having seen something so frightening rushes home to calm down, and she plays sick for the next week.

Anyway, I just think Jessica has more to lose, and it will be real push and pull of narrative as she is not only protecting this secret from the rest of her friends. She has to get through high school without dying until she realizes that she won’t be able to live her dreams because she will be a vampire or be killed.

I am slowly rotatin a crossover idea. A Batman and Flight Rising crossover, but perhaps slightly httyd themed-ish. Because I am just weak to feral cryptid batfam, and I am also weak to dragon-rider batfam.

So there are dragon hunters, vikings, general people living on islands, by shore, etc. Less modern, more httyd-fantasy-esque. But there's also things like the mechanical golems and such that can be found in FR. So less technology, more magic and spellwork and runework. Which I mean, already exists in base DC anyway.

Now the batfam specifically, I adore and love the idea of batfam living with dragons almost Valka style with a hint more feral.

Now here is what I think each of their backgrounds and an idea for each dragon would be.

Alfred- He still raises Bruce after his parents death at their request, but also might have gotten carried off by dragons. Thankfully, they were not part of the local Queen's nest meaning he didn't get eaten. He's done his best to raise Bruce- and the children he keeps bringing back the the dragon Nest to not be completely feral.

Bruce- Like Alfred, he was carried away by dragons in the middle of a raid. Technically he was actually in Alfred's arms but y'know. He was about nine at that point and spent a large chunk of his childhood playing and wrestling with dragons. Will I be including dragonese in this? Good question. Despite Alfred's protests the moment he was old enough he started sneaking out of the Nest and both watching and gathering things from any nearby- or far away in some cases- human settlements. Eventually Alfred gives up and goes along with him to properly teach bartering and such- and Bruce ended up in a couple of apprenticeships, including a couple with blacksmiths. Which helps when he starts creating his own designs and ideas.

Dick- Bruce kind of just spirited him away after the death of his parents. They were part of a circus of sorts, that did different shows, including a dance of sorts on dragon-back, which they did. So Dick finds the dragons around the nest comforting, especially when he just arrives. He also, much like Bruce, starts sneaking out, despite Bruce's own attempts to stop him. Which is how the whole dragon-people (thanks to clothing and armor covered in dragon scales, alongside wing-capes and such) myth starts gaining traction.

Barbara- Now I feel like she's more of a Hiccup-figure, albeit well liked by the rest of her village, as her father is either chief or the captain of the guard. Her and Dick befriend each other during one of the 'civilian' outings, aka when Dick & Bruce weren't all cryptid. But it also, Dick does slip slightly and accidentally gives her the idea of dragon-training and taming. Her goal is to train a dragon and convince the rest of her village of it, and sometimes joins Bruce in dragon-trapper raiding thanks to Dick insisting,

Jason- This lil gremlin wasn't exactly trapping dragons, but he stole broken traps and other things and traded the scrap to anyone he could for food and other supplies. He also has a bit of a pickpocketing habit. Dick might have laughed when he got Bruce, which is how he kind of got caught. He was very wary at first, but already half feral and the weird dragon-people have food and oh my stars, Flying! He is still a child after all, and was very excited about that sort of prospect.

Tim- So can't exactly do the whole neighbor thing with him, seeing as the batfam lives in a dragon nest. That doesn't stop him from seeing them- and the dragon flocks- fly by from his window. His parents are merchants, and he's left alone a lot. Which directly plays into how he eventually runs into the batfam. Well, technically he runs into Jason first, though recognizes Dick from the Grayson show. Look, what was Jason supposed to do, there was a small child at the edge of a building that was on fire! And he recognizes Dick, so it's not like he can't take him, right?

Steph- Steph is easy. Tim ran into her while she was freeing dragons from her father's ship and honestly, he did not kidnap her. She, kidnapped herself. Honestly he doesn't know where the heck she even came from, she just climbed on one of the dragons without a care in the world, smoking mask and hood and all. She almost explodes herself more than once and has a lot of insider information about the dragon trappers, and happily tells her new friends. According to her she was practically an orphan anyway, but at least with this she doesn't have to worry about being a "proper girl" according to her village elders.

Cass- Similar to Steph, her father is a dragon trapper, albeit a far more notorious one. Also a bit of a mercenary for higher, who isn't afraid to steal and murder, and used her to his advantage in assassinations. Similar to canon she fled upon her first kill, albeit with any caged dragons who hadn't already been killed for skin and parts. She kind of just wandered for a while, before the dragons led her to the batfam's Nest. And she's gotten far more used to dragon body language than human, so it's a relief to be able to communicate and understand once more.

Duke- Duke was in a bit of an accident, thought he knows it's not that despite what everyone else in the village said. He knows his parents were poisoned, and he knows that the house bursting into flames wasn't from a dragon. Well, technically not from a wild dragon, he saw the chains and armor and everything else even if nobody listened to him. Which is what spurs him and his friends into attempting to find out why and who is attacking the villages little by little. Bruce and them aren't entirely sure what exactly happened, but Duke and his own dragon were the only survivor on that stolen boat, and they can recognize both acid and fire.

Damian- Damian, I am unsure about, because I'm not entirely sure where the League of Shadows would stand in a world like this. But he would still be Bruce's son. And I am thinking that the league would use magics, that's probably a part of the whole Pit. Which actually could fit with a lore thing with FR. But still, not entirely too sure, y'know? But he would end up with Bruce eventually, already with a dragon or would get one upon arrival.

It's raining out, so I'm picking up Patcher from the office, and we're going to walk home together under my umbrella. Then I'm going to make us some tea, and we'll eat shortbread cookies and chat while the rain patters against the window 💚🥺💚

Patcher looks surprised for a second as he sees you waiting in front of his office. It’s already getting late, he his wrapping up everything to end his shift. Quickly, he makes some notes for the medics under his wing, before grabbing his bucket and walking towards you.

In the softness of his red eye, you can see the tiredness from the days work, but you can also find fondness and something deeper and warmer.

The chief medic’s arms wrap carefully around your waist, to pull you close into his embrace.

Slight pain shimmers in his eyes as his lips quiver, almost not even visible, indicating that he would have smiled, if he was able to.

Patcher’s forehead gently meets yours for a soft, longing keldabe kiss.

His voice is nothing more than a dark, warm whisper against your lips, before pressing his own against them. the kiss is sweet, loving, a little on the rougher side due to his exhaustion, yet also way too short.

The corrie steps back, squeezing your hand you don’t even remember him taking it in his own.

With his other hand he sweetly taps against your forehead, using your slight irritation to take the umbrella out of your other hand.

The smile you give him makes his blooming heart flutter. His once so cold and dark chest, now warm with flowers growing and butterflies flattering in his stomach.

'Home'.

You can’t stop grinning at his words, causing your own heart to melt. With a returning squeeze, you two start your walk home.

On your way, Patcher asks you about your day, listens intently and makes sure that, once in the crowd, no one bumps accidentally against you.

With you around he completely blends out the curious or disgusted looks. He ignores the comments some people feel the urge to spit out. It doesn’t matter. You though? You matter everything to him. And there will be no day, where he won’t show that to you.

As you two enter your home, you give him enough room and space. You know Patcher is still fighting some of his own demons and fears, even if he rarely speaks about it.

You are used to the ten second pause, whenever he enters your home.

All the more does it surprise you, when he doesn't pause and instead follows you deeper into the hallway, where he helps you take off your jacket.

Smiling at him, you give him a quick peck before announcing that you will prepare some tea while he should take shower.

As you want to leave he grabs your hand again to stop you.

Deep voice is filled with love and adoration. He didn’t say it in any seductive manner, which is why you agree.

It must be one of those days where he doesn’t want to be alone, a day where he probably had lost yet too many brothers again.

Patcher is by far not a clingy man, but on such days he looks for closeness. And who would you be to deny him that?

You take his hand and lead him towards the bedroom, where he can take off his armor and place it neatly in one of the shelves you gave him to use for his own personal belongings.

For a moment you only watch him take one piece off after another. Smiling a little about his professionalism and neatness, you walk into the bathroom to start the shower.

It doesn’t take long for Patcher to enter the shower as well. You have your back turned towards him and you shiver lightly as he hugs you from behind.

A sweet, faint kiss is placed on your bare shoulder, followed by another one to your neck and jaw, before feeling a sponge against your back, tenderly scrubbing. He takes his time scrubbing you, sometimes placing light kisses to the scrubbed clean places.

<Mesh'la…>

It was a warning. You should have known. Ice cold water hits your skin making you jump against him. You can feel his chest rumble and hear his own unique kind of laugh. It’s painful to laugh for him, yet he couldn’t ever mind.

<Shhhhh, Kar'ta. It’s just water.>

Another snort like sounds escapes him as you lightly turn around to glare at him. You know he did it because it’s said to be good for ones well being. The medic in him always does these little things to make sure that you stay healthy, yet he could have warned you better than this.

As you grumble, his gaze softens. His free hand tilts your chin lightly up to the side to give you a sweet apologetic kiss. While he kisses you, he carefully keeps washing your body.

At one point you return the favor of scrubbing the other. And seeing his bare body covered by scars- honestly is there even a place that has no scar?- you wonder if some of them still hurt. You don’t ask. You once did but his answer was just a shrug. Perhaps they do. Perhaps it’s another reason for the painkillers he has to take.

A little sigh gets you out of your thoughts.

Patcher faintly taps against your forehead and captures your lips with his own once again.

You two leave the shower shortly after. The chief medic grabs a towel and gently pats your skin dry, careful with a professional tendency.

He quickly dries himself before walking back to the bedroom to change into his boxers and the dark blue pyjama pants you once gifted him.

As soon as he is done, you walk towards him, wearing one of his upper blacks, which are actually dark red, and comfy shorts.

You smile as you notice that he decided against a shirt, meaning he is comfortable enough to not hide his scars despite your display of worry a few minutes earlier.

Taking his hands in yours, you lean forward, but the corrie only raises a brow - and grins, just not visibly-.

<Aren’t those mine, mesh’la? >

He squeezes your hands and suddenly just raises you up. Your legs wrap around his hips almost instinctively, causing him to hum in appreciation.

With you on his arms he leaves the bedroom and walks into the kitch.

Once in the kitchen, he doesn’t put you down. Instead he keeps you up with one arm, while he prepares some tea for you with his other hand.

You don’t really mind him keeping you like a koala up, pressed against his chest. You had missed him just as much as he seems to have missed you.

And the warmth he emits is more than comforting, despite the growing storm outside.

As soon as the tea is ready he sits down with you on a sofa. Patcher still holds you against him, his chin resting on your shoulder.

Softly he kisses your cheek as he nuzzles his face into the crook of your neck.

Despite not knowing what exactly he said, the thick warmth in his deep rough voice translates enough. You lean further back against him, hearing his thundering, yet calm heart, beating to the rhythm of the rain pattering against the windows.

You don’t have to say anything. He knows your feelings and if he had doubts, they would have vanished after handing him one of your self made shortbread cookies.

I REMEMBER SEEING ART WITH THIS A FEW MONTHS BACK BUT I WANT TO EXPLAIN (still crediting @wetcatschwartzy for the idea/inspiration though. also hi i'm aware we've never spoken sorry for tagging you in my unhinged fic idea post) BUT ANYWAY uhhhhhh. 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. And now the cast I'd so and my justifications, idc

Steph Lauter as Olive Ostrovsky

Thought process: We know Olive's dad works a lot, is emotionally distant, and Olive implies that he can be downright cold or abusive during the I Love You song, which lines up pretty well with Steph and Solomon's relationship. Olive's mom ran off, and we never get any mention of Steph's (picture Steph being introduced by the hosts mentioning her mom won Honey Queen or something). Both know their strengths and weaknesses but have serious self-doubts about their own intelligence (Steph being convinced she's dumber than she realizes, Olive never answering until she whispers the word to herself). Also I thought about Mariah singing TILY Song and sobbed.

Pete Spankoffski as William Morris Barfée

Starting off strong, they both have very stupid names that they KNOW are stupid and try to defend the moment they can ("It's Polish" / "There's an accent aigu"). Both of them have grumpy/cold exteriors, but when you get down to it, they're both just socially awkward and autistic coded but very intelligent kids that are really just at the Bee to try to make something of themselves (Barfée dropping out because of an allergic reaction at the previous Bee could totally translate to Pete having a diabetic emergency). Both develop crushes on Steph/Olive by the end of act 1 of their respective shows too, so. There's that I guess.

Grace Chasity as Logainne Schartzandgrubinierre

"But Ember, wouldn't she match better with the Catholic--" GRACE DOES NOT LIKE CATHOLICS. Also I have thought this through. Logainne is politically aware, cutthroat, and automatically assumes herself to be the most important person in the room. She takes up every project and social issue that she can to appease her dads, determined to be as perfect as they want her to be. She loses the Bee because she gets overconfident, taking a serious blow because of her pride. Grace takes up every project and social issue that she can (anti-hocoming posters and the prank on Max for example), can be cutthroat (canonically has murdered at least two men), and thanks to her holier-than-thou nature, assumes herself the most important person in the room. She takes up cancelling HOCO and is always early for school and is extremely devout because that's the perfect little girl her parents expect from her. And she'd probably get so into it she'd fall from pride, too.

Max Jagerman as Marcy Park

HEAR ME OUT! Marcy has been the top of her class all her life, to the point she was moved one grade ahead. She's popular, she's intelligent, she's multitalented, and she's peaking at age 12 and aware of it. "I Speak Six Languages" is literally her having a breakdown realizing she's been the "best" for too long and it's stressing her out. Max, meanwhile, says he knows he's peaked in high school, and therefore is making the most out of his popularity and status while he can. Like, I can picture him mentioning he's done every sport available to him and being the best athlete is only going to do so much for him in his life in a "I'm so sick and tired / of always being the best and brightest" type monologue. So when he drops out on purpose, who would he daydream about instead of Jesus? Maybe some NFL star idk. Everything I know about football is about the Chiefs (Missouri represent) and also learned against my will.

Ruth Fleming as Chip Tolentino

They're both horny, both proud of their own nerdiness, and would both ABSOLUTELY catch feelings for a competitor's sibling and immediately forget what word they had to spell. And would both make jokes about the especially dirty sounding words (to be fair all his words are kinda funny. And I DID learn the word "tittup" from this show) (look it up I dare y'all). Ruth singing Chip's Lament? Funny to me.

Richie Lipschitz as Leaf Coneybear

AuDHD coded, tendency to have the wrong takeaways, generally socially awkward even among the other nerds. Tbh that's all I got, they're matched up because they're the last ones. Still kinda fits though.

And I have less justification for the adults but here's my takes anyway

Miss Mulberry as Rona - sweet but stern ladies who've been taking care of after school functions for years

Tom Houston as Douglas Panch - he doesn't want to be there, he's as confused as everyone else (but without the hitting on Mulberry stuff he's never do Becky wrong like that <3)

Dan Reynolds as Mitch Mahoney - he's a volunteer counselor!

Thinking about how hilarious it would be (plot-wise) for things to be reversed in mota, say, women are the ones that go off to war instead of the men. I can picture Croz being a donut dollie but what do you think the others would be? 😂🤭

Steph this is so genius and comical and I’m not intelligent enough to do more than wheeze at the possibilities yet. Like this is trash but here’s initial thots:

I can so easily imagine Croz being the most earnest Donut Dollie ever, everyone gets a proper good-luck send off and the best pastry ever made, there’s a painful chronicle behind those eyes of each face that didn’t return, the smile lines don’t lessen but the eyes get sadder as the months pass, but still, Croz remains just as committed as day one and can summon up a dance and a prayer at whim.

Miss Egan? This one’s a WASP, probably one of the ones who almost got sent from Halifax to Britain before that mission got scrubbed due to “putting women in combat zones” -and Miss Egan was pissed as hell, probably maybe even tried to take off anyway. A trailblazer, her over-officer’s chief nightmare and the trailblazing champion of the girls around her. If things were truly so bent that it was the girls freely going off without any hold backs?! -this one suits the fighter pilot mentality tbh

Gale? Gosh I don’t know, such capability, a demeanor that would get her far into promotions but a simmering itch to never be so elevated as to be out of the action? -I honestly am too torn to label right now.

Brady? She likes her locations to be accurate, ok? She’s probably in navigation and the steadiest and most impressive Secretary you could hope for

Endometriosis is not a gynaecological condition, the founder of a charity supporting women with the disease has suggested, after appointing a transgender woman as its chief executive.

Jodie Hughes, the founder of Endometriosis South Coast, recently appointed Steph Richards, a trans woman and activist, as chief executive.

Ms Hughes told BBC Woman’s Hour on Wednesday that referring to the disease as a “gynaecological disorder” may be the reason medical research into the issue has not progressed further.

Endometriosis causes tissue similar to the lining of the uterus to grow outside of the womb, often causing severe pelvic pain. It can also affect fertility.

Another charity, Endometriosis UK, describes it as “the second most common gynaecological condition in the UK”. It affects around 1.5 million women in the country.

Appearing on the BBC programme alongside Ms Richards, Ms Hughes said: “Endometriosis is a systemic inflammatory condition. We need to move away from the gynaecological side of things because you don’t have to be born with a womb to have it.”

She also claimed endometriosis is “not a reproductive disorder”, adding: “It’s being seen as a gynaecological disorder maybe is the reason why the past 200 years research and medicine isn’t progressing.”

Ms Richards, 71, whose appointment drew criticism from some women’s groups, was asked on the programme if she could fully represent women with endometriosis when she previously had not used the word “woman” to describe those suffering from disease.

She said she was “happy” to use the word but did not want to ignore how endometriosis could also affect trans men and non-binary people.

Men diagnosed

Ms Richards also claimed that endometriosis was not only seen in women because 29 men had been recorded as being diagnosed with the disease.

“I look at women but I also look at the issue of trans men and non-binary people. There’s something like 5,500 trans men who had endometriosis who probably feel rather left out and also non-binary people,” Ms Hughes said.

The charity faced a backlash this week after appointing Ms Richards to the role.

Helen Joyce, director of advocacy at Sex Matters, told The Telegraph: “Endometriosis is a disorder that involves cells from the womb lining finding their way to other parts of a woman’s anatomy, and it can cause infertility.

“So, of course, it’s a women’s reproductive issue; it’s absurd and offensive to the many female sufferers of this debilitating condition to say otherwise. Yes, women who identify as men or non-binary can have the disease – how you identify obviously doesn’t change your biology. And, yes, there are a handful of cases in the literature where biological men suffer from something similar, but these are ultra-rare exceptions.”

Ms Joyce said that Ms Hughes’ remarks suggesting endometriosis should not be framed as a gynaecological issue were “offensive”.

“Endometriosis is poorly understood and researched precisely because it only affects women and our reproductive systems. This is part of the systemic lack of research and funding for “women’s issues”.

“The answer is for the medical profession to step up and do more for women – not to rebrand women’s disease by pretending they also affect men. People can’t in reality change sex, and men won’t start suffering from endometriosis even if we pretend people can change sex (and no man should want this disease; it’s horrific).” _________________________________

until they get the uterus transplant thing down this is something that will hit AFAB people and telling transmen this also almost sounds like telling them they don't need to go to a gynecologist to me.

It's not sexist or transphobic to say you need a gynocoligist if you have, vulva, vagina, uterus, cervex, fallopian tubes, ovaries and any bits I didn't mention, they're the doctors that specialize in those body parts

I'm very trans positive and supportive, this woman is an idiot however, and people are going to get hurt as a result of her being an idiot if she keeps going with this shit.

If you have a uterus you can get endometriosis.

If you have a uterus you go to a gynecologist to get those bits looked at, you can pull the gender away and be fine with it, gynecologist is a doctor that works on parts that 50% (or so) of the human population have.

Issues dealing with those bits are gynecological issues, make it gender neutral in your head if you need to.

We're getting dangerously close to a trans woman threatening to sue an oncologist because he said she has prostate cancer.

TL:DR; whole thing is insanity and will wind up killing people if they don't knock it off, you can call it whatever you want to call it but don't tell the professionals they're wrong on this one.

if it's a job for a OBGYN then it's a gynecological issue
