Clark leans his body against your doorframe.  You slept too much.  Refused to get out of the bed most days, and when you did it was stiff.  You ate only because your baby depended on you.  You got up only because Clark asked you to.  You survived because you promised Carter you would.  Your hand rubs over your tummy, and the baby rolls around.  Kicking at your stomach, wanting it to be known they were still there.
“Cricket bug,” Clark says softly.  He still struggled to walk past your door.  It didn’t matter anymore, Carter was gone and he was never coming back.  You were a widow, and the town accused you of sleeping with his best friend.  “I should find some place else to…”
“Don’t finish that sentence,” you sit up in the bed, red rimmed eyes.  No more tears fell from them, because there was nothing else left to cry.  “I can’t lose you, too.”
“I’m making it impossible for you to remarry.”
A pained giggle bursts out of your chest, and you wondered what he had going on in his head.  It didn’t matter.  None of it mattered in the end.  The waiting that you made Carter do, and for what?  “Why should I remarry?”
“Cricket, I know…”
“You know nothing.  I wanted Carter.  I still want Carter!  And…all I have left is his child, and those letters.  Our baby is never going to know him.  Never know the times that he told me stories about the type of father he was going to be.  Never know the plans he had for the yard.  They’re never going to know how much he wanted to hold them.  They’re just not going to understand.  And I want my baby to look like Carter, and then in the same breath I hope I don’t have to resent my child because I can’t have their dad back with me.  You think I care about what those stupid women think?  They don’t know, they don’t have nightmares of their faceless husband.  They didn’t have to say goodbye to a box because I wasn’t allowed to look at his body.  Everything was taken from me, and you think I care what other people say about me and you.”
You look up at the ceiling as fresh tears stream down your face and you wipe them away fruitlessly.  “I’ve lost enough, Clark.  Why should I have to lose you, too.  Oh,” you gasp, grabbing onto your stomach.
“Cricket?” He steps one foot into your room, but backs out.
“Ow.  Ahh…Clark.  Clark!” You scream out as pain sets your body on fire.  Gripping to your stomach.  “The baby.  The baby’s coming.  Get your ass in here, and help me.”
There was a hesitation until you scream again, and he crosses into your room helping you up.  Your body locks up as you yelp.  “I can’t…I don’t wanna do this alone.”
“You’re not.  I’ll be with you,” finally grabbing you up, he carries you to the car.  His promise to Carter be damned.  You needed more than his shadow looming into your presence.  You needed him to step up for you and that baby.  This wasn’t falling in love.  This was doing what he promised to Carter.
Tumblr media
Clark cradles your little baby in his giant arms.  She was healthy.  Beautiful like you, had her daddy’s cleft chin, and even Carter’s smile.  He couldn’t believe that his friend had created this perfect baby girl that he could hold with one hand.  The domestic life wasn’t something Clark thought he wanted, until he held this pink bundle in his arms.
Clark wanted to take back all those thoughts about wanting to leave the house.  He just wanted you to have as good of a life as you could.  But this tiny thing had stolen his heart, much like you had the past couple of months.  It wasn’t falling in love.  It was a duty.  A promise.
The baby’s eyes open, and she searches out your body to suckle, “Charlotte, you let your mother get some sleep.  Charlotte Abigail Baizen,” he swallows the lump in his throat, because it felt wrong to call her that.  Carter was her father, but he was the one that bonded with the baby.  There wasn’t anything Clark wouldn’t do to keep her or you safe.  It was a promise.
Her lips part and a pitiful squeaky cry slips out of her mouth.  Even her cry was dainty.  She was perfect, and Clark hated the emotions that he was fighting off.  He didn’t want to.  “Clark,” you croak, sitting up in the bed, “Hand her to me.  If you give me that blanket, you can stay.”
“Can I hold her when she’s finished?” You give him a gentle smile and nod your head.  There was more brightness to your eyes since you had her.  It was like birthing her gave you a rebirth.  You smiled.  More than once he caught you giggling.
Handing you the baby, he turns around to give you some privacy while you get yourself and her situated, before covering the two of you up.  You lean back on the bed, “Clark, you can turn around,” he sits in the chair beside you, and you reach out for his hand to hold.  Nursing was uncomfortable.  It hurt more than you were made aware of.
“You’re doing a good job,” he says, his eyes only on you.  The looks lingered more than they once did.  But it was because he hadn’t left your side.  Took on the role of the father seamlessly.  “She’s adorable.”
“She’s a little princess,” you peek under the blanket, and sure enough that tiny thing with her perfectly little fingernails, and soft curls was doing as feeding babies do.
“Carter….Carter would have been proud of you both,” it stung to hear him talk about Carter.  The emotional pain you felt from Carter’s death was always smothering you.  It never went away, and somehow talking about what he would have done didn’t help.  He was never coming back, and it made things worse thinking that he would.
You were never going to love someone the way you loved Carter.  There was only one Carter Baizen.  But sometimes, women don't marry for love.  You were just one of the lucky ones that did.  Any relationship after was going to be lesser than.  There was no point in arguing that.
“I’m sorry about what I was going to say earlier,” Clark looks down at the blanket, before quickly back up at you.  “Can she breathe?”
You peek again, and that perfect angel was still feeding, and you smile watching her, “Yeah, she’s doing great.  What did you say earlier?”
“About me finding somewhere else to live.”
“Oh,” that was the last thing that you wanted Clark to do.  You felt like he was already home.  “I’ve been thinking.  I know why you’re in the basement.  But there’s rooms upstairs,” his eyes move from the blanket up to yours.  He didn’t know where you going with this conversation, but you had piqued his interest.  “You should, if you wanted to, just move to the main floor.  You know you don't want to be too far away from Charlotte.”
“Yeah.  Yeah, I don’t want to be away from her.  You’ll need help.”
“Clark…she’s never going to know Carter,” he looks down at his lap, because this conversation was giving him emotional whiplash.  He was overwhelmed with his feelings.  “I want you to be her daddy.”
“Cricket…”
“You’re the closest thing to Carter.  No one knew him better than we did.  You should be her daddy.  Raise her with me, and…”
“Mrs. Baizen,” the nurse interrupts your train of thought, while she checks your vitals.  Her eyes constantly looking over at Clark.  It was improper.  You had gotten yourself into a whole heap of trouble.  And judging by the way that man was looking at you, he was getting himself into some trouble as well.  “Looks like you’re all set to go home.”
Tumblr media
Clark had somehow, subconsciously migrated to Carter’s chair.  Holding a freshly changed Charlotte in his lap, playing with her feet.  The little baby squeals out her giggles.  Her chubby little hands reach up for Clark.  It was yours and her favorite time of the day, when Clark came home.
He gave you the time to finish supper while he entertained the baby.  Had this been under different circumstances, these were the sounds you always wanted to hear in your home.  Laughter from both your baby and her father.  Clark filled the role well, but you had left such dreams behind with Carter.  He wasn’t coming back.
Your body once recoiled from Clark’s touches to your side, now it craved for him to stay longer.  Sighing whenever his hand would move from your hip to the giggling baby at his feet.  She adored him more than she did you.  Clapped her hands whenever she heard his voice.
Charlotte might have been the one to bring you and Clark together, but the feelings he had bubbling up inside of him was of his own making.  You allowed it because he was close to Carter.  It was sick, and it was wrong, but you didn’t care.  There was never going to be another Carter, and there were worse people than Clark.  He could give you a good life.
It was like some divine intervention that he was never drafted before the war ended.  It was like Clark was always meant to be with you, and become Charlotte’s dad.  “Cricket,” he removes a skillet from the burner, and turns to stare at you. Charlotte perched on his side with her head laying on his chest.  Patting over him as if to tell you that he was hers.  “Hon…you okay?”
“Yeah, just was…I guess daydreaming.”
“Well, don’t burn the house down, huh, mama?” He adds in animatedly, and looks down at the baby, who smiles her two teeth grin and shakes her head.  “You sure, you’re okay?”
“Yeah, Nancy called, it was just stupid gossip.  Got me in my head,” he starts to speak, but you press your hand against his mouth, “I’ll be fine, Clark.”
“Ehh!” Your daughter screeches, shaking her head no at you.
“Cricket bug, I think she wants you to quit touching her daddy,” it was bittersweet for you.  Charlotte would grow up knowing no different.  But you were going to have to give Clark something.  He wouldn’t stay.
“Lottie, you quit being so mean to me.  You two go set the table.”
Tumblr media
“Clark,” you whisper at the door of Charlotte’s room.  Just like every night he was staring down at her crib.  She had only just fallen asleep, so he had to make sure she was comfortable.  Needed to reassure himself that she would in fact keep her eyes closed.  “Clark, she’s fine, and…will you dance with me?”
He brushes a few stray strands of hair off Charlotte’s face, and walks into the living room with you.  You start a slow song on the record player; it was so low, it was even a struggle for you to hear.  Things were a lot more comfortable between the two of you now.  He never hesitated to put his hand on your hip, while the other holds your hand, and he spins you around the living room.
There was a shift in yours and Clark’s relationship the moment that Charlotte was born.  One that neither of you could deny anymore.  It was comfortable.  And if the whole damn town was going to assume that you and he were living in sin, you might as well be.  Dropping your hand out of his, you bring his hand to your hip.  Sliding your hand up his chest, before pressing a chaste kiss on his lips.
Clark whispers your name, and you kiss him again.  Letting your lips linger on his, and he finally returns the kiss.  His hands firmly on your hips, he pulls you closer to him, sliding those meaty hands up your back.  Your body was on autopilot, and wanted to feel something real.  Opening your mouth when his tongue swipes over your lips, and he dominates your mouth.
Sucking your own tongue into his mouth.  His hands roam from your back, to your tits.  Cupping the spheres before he backs off completely.  “Cricket, I can’t.”
“Why?”
“Because….because it’s improper.”
“Fuck it.”
“Cricket!”
“All my life I have done things right, and what did I get out of that?  I don’t care anymore, Clark.  I just want to feel.  And right now, I want to feel you.  Please,” stepping closer to him, you run your hands up his chest, and start slowly unbuttoning his shirt.  “Please?”
“On one condition?” You stare up at him owlishly waiting on his condition.  You wanted it.  Wanted him.  You loved Clark, even though it was in a different way, you did love him.  “After tonight, you let me make an honest woman out of you.  We go to the courthouse, I don’t need a wedding.  I know I’m second best to you, but…I won’t have us shacking up together and feeding these gossip mongers.  You get tonight, if you take my last name.”
That was a lot to digest.  Clark wasn’t wrong, the two of you couldn’t play house.  The two of you are living together, and the rumors were getting to Clark.  You didn’t want that stigma over your daughter’s head, and if Carter couldn’t raise Charlotte, you didn’t want anyone else, but Clark.
“Tomorrow.  We can go to the courthouse tomorrow.  Tonight, I want you,” his hands grab your ass and he lifts you up, hauling you into the bedroom, laying you down gently on the bed.  Kissing up your neck while simultaneously unbuttoning your dress.  Clark was very skilled.  His body and limbs worked in tandem.  Very little effort had you nude underneath him, while he seemed to just walk out of his own clothes.
He was massive over you, pushing apart your legs, and pumping his cock in his fist, “You’re sure?  We’re ready to do this?”
“Yes,” he pushes into your warmth in one swift movement.  Your back arches off the bed, and you cling to his back.  Your fingers dig into his skin, and he gives you the sweetest smile when you whimper up at him.  “Clark…” you pant out.
He grabs your leg one at a time, wrapping them each around him before his hips piston into you.  Driving into you slowly and languidly, laying down on you, so you feel his entire weight.  Propping himself up by his elbows, he brushes his fingers over your skin, “I’ve always loved you, Cricket.”
“You know I’ve always loved you.”
“Not in the same way,” you gasp when he pushes himself in you fully.  Scrapping your nails all the way down his back, until you grip his ass cheeks.  Head throwing back with your mouth open.  “I know I’m not him.  But I’ll be a good husband to you.  A good dad to Charlotte.  And if you wanted, maybe some more kids?”
“I know.  Yeah.  Yes, I want more.  With you.  Ahhh,” his mouth crashes into yours as he muffles your loud moans.  Swallowing every one of them as your walls clench around him girthy cock.  It had been so long.  And Clark was new.  He was experienced, and there was something arousing about knowing that the Clark Kent was taking care of you.  The Clark Kent was going to be your husband.
You didn’t need a wedding.  You had one, and it didn’t give you any longer with Carter.  Clark never wanted one.  Never even saw himself getting married, until you.  He never even thought he was going to get to hear you desperately mewl as your body spreads pleasure all throughout your limbs.  He didn’t think he would get to see your body like this, or have another man’s child be raised as his own.
You wanted him so deep inside you that you were practically using his ass to shove him further down.  One of his hands slams on the headboard of the bed as he starts pounding thrusts into you.  It had been just as long for him.  And you were perfect.  Better than any woman he had ever felt.  Your body was so responsive to his motions, and was clenching down on him so tightly.
Clark wished he could make this last longer, but it was too much.  Too much for him to stave off.  Emotionally too much for him because you agreed to marriage.  It wasn’t the most romantic thing, but he had been trying to figure out a way to approach you with marriage.
He wanted you.  Wanted that baby, and he wanted more.  Wanted to add a white picket fence to the yard with a swing set for Charlotte and the other kids.  Wanted to come home to you for a kiss, and an evening dance while the children giggled in their rooms, or played music in the basement.  He wanted it all, and he wanted it with you.
“Cricket…I…I…”
“Clark, please.  I want to feel you,” you give him permission to release his seed.  If you were to marry him, then he should get the perks of a husband.  He spurts so deep inside you, and he presses his forehead against your own.  His chest heaves with all that had transpired.  When he kisses you, his mouth turns up into a smile.  He was happy, and you would be happy.  One day.  Hopefully.
Starting to get off you, he looks into the floor at his clothes, going to grab the items up, but you sit up in the bed, “Clark, this bed is yours now.  Ours.  Don’t leave.”
He slips on his underwear, tossing you a nightgown before crawling in the bed behind you.  His arm wraps around your body, and he pulls you flush with his body.  This was the start to a new beginning.

Gossip Girl Mamma Mia au bc it got long I didn't wanna take over @vanderwoodlings beautifully thought out greek mythology post any more than i had. but i still have ideas to share with her, @strideofpride and @blairwaldcrf (who first suggested this)
Lily as Donna with a wild child past that she's a little ashamed of but also definitely misses - but she doesn't want her daughter going down the same path. The movies are inconsistent but it seems like Donna's mom stopped supporting her when she got pregnant (which could mean no Scott but this is Mamma Mia so maybe he just shows up in a fun twist - after all, Cece would probably be less forgiving the second time)
Serena as Sophie. raised by a single mom. they clearly love each other but also have their differences. Impulsive. wonders what her life would be like if she had her dad around
she has an impending wedding to Carter Baizen. Independent from his parents while she's tied to her mom. doesn't want the big white wedding and would rather use that money to travel, but he's doing it for her. where Carter differs from Sky The Film Fiance is that he knows she wants to find her dad and is helping
which leaves Eric her younger (half) brother to fill the role of supportive, but distinctly aware of how ridiculous this is. he understands that Serena wants to find her dad, but figured out that he doesn't need a father to feel whole and thinks throwing a giant wedding just so she can invite three men she's never met is a terrible idea
things get fuzzier with the other adults bc gossip girl just doesn't have that many, but I'll do what I can
the easiest is Rufus as Sam, the only potential father that Donna loved. things went south. he married someone else and had 2 kids shortly after. that marriage didn't work out and he always wondered about what could have been so when he gets an invite to her daughter's wedding he figures why not attend
William van der Woodsen works better as Bill (impulsive, kinda smarmy) than Harry (timid but wishes he wasn't) so we'll call him Will (which doubles as the average of their names and a portmanteau of Worse Bill,) say he attended for the hell of it, and move on to his love interest
Carol as Rosie. Lily's bandmate / close friend / sister. pushed her to free herself from Cece and spread her wings. never married - takes pride in being a lone wolf. had a thing for Will when they briefly knew each other 20 years ago. she never lived on Kalokari in the movie so we could say that she slept with Will shortly after Lily and that's when Charlie was conceived (and kept secret from Lily)
Tanya and Harry are even harder. the flashback episode had them hanging out with Carol's coworker Owen, who's enough of a blank slate to be either one. We could blur canon even more and stick Eleanor Waldorf in as Tanya (rich. vain. divorced once or thrice) but that doesn't really work
Harry had a Johnny Rotten t shirt (and Colin Firth looked like a rocker in the iconic flashback moment before Mamma Mia (the song)) so we'll say he's some other rockstar Lily slept with and Tanya is another groupie and leave it at that
Nate and Blair as Sophie's bridesmaids (Ally and Lisa) who get caught up in her scheme. they had their cute little rhyme and i think it would be fun! "we're Sophie, Ally Lisa! We're the greatest bestest mates! I'm tough! (N) I'm tall! (S) I'm tiny! (B) and we're gonna rock this place!"
Sky's best man Pepper is not a super important part of the movie but he is a fun ball of chaos so we could file off the more problematic aspects of Chuck or Georgina and stick them in here to hit on The Nameless Former Groupie
the original plays out in a hotel on a Greek island. which feels very Serena (and is a fun nod to her time on Santorini with Carter) so we'll keep it. Lily Rhodes graduated from Brown with a degree in classics and an interest in photography. before settling down in either New York or Montecito she took a trip to Greece with her wayward sister Carol and their friend, singing for fun and for money, bc their mom refused to pay for this trip as long as Carol was involved
Lily has a short fling with Rufus while they're both on Kalokari, but uh oh! he has a fiance back home. she finds out. he disappears into the night. she falls in bed with Will and Some Other Guy to drown her sorrows. He returns, having broken things off with Alison, but it's that rom com trope where he sees her on a date through the window and figures she's moved on, so he goes home and begs Alison to marry him
Lily never really got over Rufus but she manages to build a home on Kalokari. Her heartache is the least of her worries when she discovers that she's pregnant. she opens a hotel bc singing and photography aren't enough to support her daughter, and besides, the island is beautiful and people should visit
20ish years later the plot plays out more or less the same, with Serena finding a diary (or for Lily, a photo album) from the year her mom was pregnant with her and deciding she wants a big wedding so she can find her dad (and hopefully figure herself out in the process.) she invites the men, miraculously they all attend. Lily's already stressed from wedding planning and from her daughter growing up (and potentially leaving with her new husband) and having 3(!!) exes around is NOT helping
the men independently figure out that "oh! I must be Serena's dad! that's why I was invited! I'm gonna do the right thing and walk her down the aisle! :)" Serena's overwhelmed by her lies and ends up picking a fight with her mom and brother the morning of her wedding but they patch it up while Lily and Eric help her get ready
Rufus is trying to get back together with Lily. He sees his opportunity when Serena decides at the altar that actually Carter and Eric are right! she doesn't want a big wedding! she calls it off in the middle and she and Carter decide to use the money to travel and get married some other time. the truth finally comes out and all three men agree to each be 1/3 Serena's father (they offer for Eric but he politely declines.) Rufus takes this opportunity to propose to Lily and the two of them get married bc we're all here anyway (except for his two children but that's a story for Mamma Mia 3 I guess)
speaking of which! sequel plots for this au include
it turns out Lily and Rufus already knew other before that European tour and much to Rufus' surprise have a son together
Rufus' other children track down their dad in Greece and go hey dad what the fuck but decide they like Kalokari and stick around part time
Blair almost marries the visiting prince of Monaco but decides she likes Rufus' mildly pretentious curly haired son better
Surprise! Will and Carol have a child together! No one is pleased!
Lily has a health scare and everyone is prompted to decide who will get the hotel. They decide Scott, who's both the oldest, and needs a stronger connection to his family
The hotel had been closed for renovations and Cece arrives (uninvited! how gauche) to the reopening party to see what her daughter has built
this list had convinced me we need a Mamma Mia Gossip Girl sitcom bc I'm having a lot of fun with this

Finally started the van der Baizen I’ve had planned out for like 2 years.
Title: That Light You Adore Parring(s): van der Baizen (Serena/Carter) Universe: Gossip Girl (Original Series)   Summary: Carter calls her out of the blue right before her wedding. Things were always going to end up like this. Rating: M Chapter rating: G
He gets her at “Hello, Beautiful”, but she won’t admit it. She refuses to admit it. She had been ready for Carter when he bailed on her, and she still feels shit enough about her relationship with her dad to feel a sting when she remembers the last time they spoke. But-

The lobby looked strikingly bare without the Christmas decorations that had previously been up.  Y/N always adored Christmas, and since this had been her first one at the hotel, it had exceeded her expectations.  She’d been praised for her gingerbread masterpiece, but she hadn’t been able to take all the credit.  Parker and Carter Baizen themselves had both helped, and played an important role ensuring she finished the piece on time.
Her Christmas had been spent at home.  Unsurprisingly, she’d been tasked with cooking dinner for everyone, but that was the last thing she wanted to do.  Just once she’d wanted her family to pull their heads out of their own asses and give her a night off from cooking, but she knew that was too much to ask for.
She couldn’t understand why they always insisted on eating turkey, which was the driest meat she’d ever eaten.  Or why they insisted on making it last for three days afterwards.  Regardless, when she left at 2pm with instructions on what to do when the food was ready, her family were annoyed she chose work over them.
To her, it was a no-brainer.  She was their daughter, sister, grand-daughter, and niece.  They treated her like a personal chef, and they didn’t even pay her for it.  At least if she went into work she was appreciated, praised, and paid.  Why would she stay at home and be told how she should be braising the turkey when she could be respected at work?  At least her colleagues valued her input, rather than undermining her career like her family did.
That was why she chose work.
Before she’d left on Christmas Eve, after the dinner rush and cleaning up the kitchen, she’d slipped Sally – the Baizen’s personal maid – a present to leave for Parker in their suite.  It was his own apron and chef’s jacket, and a card that said all he had to do next time he wanted to assist her in the kitchen was make sure someone called her first.  During rushes, the kitchen was no place for a small five year old.  Y/N wanted him to have room to create, but also in an environment that she wasn’t stressing about his well being 24/7.
It wasn’t until she removed the gingerbread masterpiece from the restaurant that Parker stopped by.  He’d apparently been upstate with his mother for the holiday, so he hadn’t got Y/N’s present until he got home to his father on the 28th.  By that time, she was just getting into work for lunch, and both Baizen men made an appearance in the kitchen.
“Miss Y/N!”  Parker squealed, drawing her attention away for a minute.  She turned and smiled at the youngster who raced towards her in full speed, wearing his chef jacket and apron.  “I can bake with you more now!”
“You like your present?”  She asked him, crouching to his level so he could hug her.  “My sous chef has got to have his own apron and jacket, doesn’t he?”
“Yes!  I love it!  I love you!”  He told her.
That pulled at her heart strings.  “Aw, I’m glad you love them, Parker,” she told him, leaning in to whisper in his ear.  “I love you too.”
He beamed at her and looked up at his father.  “Daddy said we bake more sometime?  When?”
“How about we make some cupcakes for the New Year, hm?”  She asked.  “We can spend the afternoon on the 30th decorating, if you’re up to helping me and your dad says it’s okay, of course.”
        “It’s okay,” Parker assured her.
Carter gave a soft chuckle.  “It’s fine.  What time should I bring him down?”
“Just after two works for me,” she told him, rising to her feet again.  Parker slipped his hand into hers and she smiled down at him.  “You’re welcome to join us too, Carter.  We’ve got to bake enough cupcakes for everyone in the hotel, and then some.  I think it’s going to require an extra pair of hands.”
Truth was, they did have a lot of cupcakes to decorate, but the staff were all helping out anyway.  Y/N was planning on making a batch from scratch so the father and son duo could take them back to their suite.  She knew Carter had a party planned, because she had agreed to cater it.  Providing exceptional nibbles for his guests, as well as being able to join in on the festivities.
Carter smiled softly at the two.  He liked seeing them interact.  Y/N was sweet to his kid and she didn’t have to be, and apparently she’d left quite a mark on Parker.  While he was away with his mother, he hadn’t stopped talking about the gingerbread masterpiece they’d decorated together for Christmas at the hotel.  His mother had been quite put out that this new woman had been spending time with her son.  It was only after Carter explained that she was a chef in the hotel’s kitchen and Parker had tracked her down that his mother settled a little.  He never got involved with his staff.  She didn’t have to feel jealous at all.
But it didn’t sit well with Carter, that Y/N was just a chef who worked for him.  He liked her even though he barely knew her.  He wanted to get to know her better, he just wasn’t sure how to go about that.
“I’ll keep my afternoon free,” Carter assured her with a smile.  “C’mon, Parker.  We’ve got a busy afternoon ahead of us.”
“We’re building a fort!”  Parker excitedly told Y/N.  She smiled at him.  “And watching Santa Clause.  It’s Daddy’s favourite!”
“Sounds like you better get to building your fort!”  Y/N told him.  “You gotta make sure it’s comfortable before you watch a movie.”
Parker nodded firmly, taking her opinion on board.  “You hear that, daddy?  It’s inpordent.”
“We better go then, Park,” Carter said.  “Can you say ‘thank you’ to Y/N again for her gifts?”
“Thank you so much, Miss Y/N!”
“You’re very welcome, angel,” she assured him with a fond ruffle of his hair.  “Enjoy your afternoon with your dad, hm?  Make sure he lets you hold the popcorn or he’ll eat it all.”
        Parker gasped.  “Of course!”
Y/N shot Carter a wink before Parker ran off.  “I’ll bring up a cart in a bit.  You want marshmallows with your hot chocolates?”
“Yeah,” he said, a light dusting of pink to his cheeks.  Her wink had affected him more than he cared to admit.  “Thank you again.  For Parker’s gift.”
“Don’t worry about it,” she assured him.  “And I meant what I wrote in the card.  He’s welcome here whenever he likes.  I’m happy to bake with him.”
“I know he really appreciates it,” Carter assured her.  “If he ever gets in the way down here, we have a kitchen in our suite that’s rarely used.  Could be a bit easier...safer.  I know how hectic it can get in here sometimes.”
“After we frost these cupcakes I’m more than happy to bake with Parker upstairs,” she assured him.  “Just let me know when master summons me and I’ll appear.”
Carter laughed heartily.  Eyes screwed shut and head slightly thrown back.  She really liked knowing she caused that kind of reaction and she wanted to see more of it.
“I’ll get started on your cart.  You should head up and help Parker set up the fort before your hot chocolates get cold.”
Carter’s eyes twinkled as he looked at her.  “We couldn’t have that,” he said.  “Thank you again.”
        “Of course.”
As Y/N turned around to wash her hands, her coworker Liam, gave her a look.  “Oh, girl, you’ve got it bad for the boss, haven’t you?”
        Y/N sighed.  She sure did.
+++
Y/N got through cupcake decorating without a hitch.  Parker mixed the batter, and Carter spooned it into the moulds.  They spent time laughing as they made the frosting, waiting for the cupcakes to cook and cool down before they could decorate them, and Parker made sure everyone else’s decorating was going well.  He pulled his stool up next to Liam, who was making intricately designed firework cupcakes, and watched with curious eyes.
When theirs were ready, Y/N let the boys go wild while she finished a couple for the rest of the hotel’s guests.  Carter’s and Parker’s were their own to take home, and she made sure they knew that from the get-go.  Parker had been super excited to get started, and Carter periodically thanked Y/N from her time and dedication.  He knew tomorrow she’d be super busy with preparing for his party, and she was supposed to have the afternoon off instead of helping them bake their own.  He made sure she knew it was appreciated, and that it wouldn’t go unnoticed.  He’d already made the call to accounting to give her a hefty Christmas bonus, but he wanted to up her salary, too.  She was going above and beyond what her job called for, so he made sure to compensate her properly.
It was all go in the Baizen’s suite.  Y/N was busy in the kitchen, whipping up some hor d’oeuvres for the guests set to arrive after 9pm.  She’d eaten a late lunch, which could technically also be classed as an early dinner, and now she was busy whipping up a storm.  Ready to cater to the upper class guests Carter had told her were coming, with the help of Sarah in the kitchen, and a few other staff as the waiters.
Rumour has it that the view from Carter’s penthouse was the best in the city, and would give them the best place to watch the fireworks from.  Sarah had been taking up a storm about last year’s New Year’s Eve party, which she’d helped the last chef cater.  Y/N was excited to see the fireworks she talked so highly about.
The evening was a lot more relaxed than Y/N thought it would be.  She appreciated the relaxed vibe, and even allowed herself out to mingle with a few of the guests who wanted to meet the chef.  Apparently the one last year had been wooed by a job offer of one of Carter’s friends, and a couple of people even offered to double what he was paying to become their personal chef.  But she was happy at the hotel.  She was loyal to the Baizens, and Carter had overheard that last comment in passing.  Backtracking to shoo away Patrick, who apparently was a vulture, just so he could thank Y/N.
“I’ve told you before, it’s fine,” Y/N assured him.
“Loyal to the Baizens isn’t in your job description,” he quipped easily.  “That’s why I’m thanking you this time.  You already know how much I appreciate you helping me out tonight.”
Y/N laughed softly.  “Honestly, Carter, there’s nobody else I’d rather work for.  If there was, I’d be there.  I know my worth, Mr. Baizen.  You have nothing to worry about.”
“Why am I ‘Mr. Baizen’ now?”
“Because you’re my boss and this is a professional setting.  If I was to call you ‘Carter’ up here...I’d need to change.  It’s different when you’re on my turf,” she replied simply and he nodded, accepting it, even if he didn’t like how formal it was.  “You have an amazing view of the city from up here.”
“It’s the one thing I loved growing up.  Watching the sun go down over the Manhattan skyline,” he responded.  “Sunsets are the one thing that doesn’t change no matter where you are in the world.  No matter what hotel you’re temporarily calling home.  They’re always beautiful.”
“I hear the view of the fireworks is spectacular,” Y/N mused.  “You mind if I watch them with you?”
        “Not at all.”
He smiled sweetly, but he felt like his heart would beat out of his chest.  She beamed back at him and he wasn’t sure how he was still standing.  He knew it would be unprofessional to kiss her at midnight, but it was a standing tradition.  Maybe that’s what she was insinuating.  Maybe she wanted to kiss him.  God, his head was spinning.
After their afternoon decorating cupcakes together, Carter had called Parker’s mom.  He knew she was still salty about a potential new woman in her son’s life, and he was about to make it worse by confessing that he might have a small crush on her.  He didn’t know what to do, or who to call, and he knew that after she stopped being pissed, she’d actually offer some decent advice.
Her advice had been simple.  Let her attempt to make the first move.  Their dynamic obviously made it hard to decipher actual intentions, considering she could just be kind to Parker because Carter was the boss and she wanted to stay in his good books.  But he had to look for any signs she wanted to spend more time with him.  Inviting him to decorate cupcakes with her and Parker had been his first clue, before he even knew to look for them.
And now here she was asking to watch the fireworks with him.  He hoped like hell he wasn’t reading the signs wrong, because that could be a potential harassment case on his hands if he wasn’t careful.  He was her boss.  His ex understood his hesitancy to make a move, which was why she urged him to let her make it instead.  He just hoped she was bold enough to cross that line.  After the professional situation bullshit she’d thrown in his face earlier, he wasn’t too sure anymore.
Y/N wanted to kiss him.  My God, did she ever.  She knew she could possibly lose her job over it, but it was a calculated risk she was willing to make.
The chatted idly as they waited for time to pass.  Waiting desperately for the countdown to start and the fireworks to light up the sky.  Y/N built up the nerve to actually kiss him at midnight, wringing her hands together to find 20 seconds of courage.
It didn’t have to mean anything, right?  It could just be a kiss that came from tradition.  Right?
Liam was right.  She had it bad for the boss.  And it didn’t help that the countdown had started.  She only had 8 seconds to decide if she was willing to risk it all.
Fuck it.  She was doing it.  It just so happened she jumped the gun, and kissed him before the countdown hit one.
Carter didn’t let her pull away.  Kissing her back the moment their lips met and cupping the base of her skull with his hand.  The other on her waist.  Hers gripping his tie, having to pull him down a little so she could reach his mouth.
Humming against her lips as the pop of fireworks sounded in the distance and cheering erupted from the living room.  They parted with shy smiles, and Y/N let her gaze wander to the light show in the sky.
“Wow,” she said breathlessly, turning to look back at him.  “That’s a visual representation of what it’s like kissing you.  Beautiful.”
He kissed her once again, and they both knew that was the start of something truly beautiful.  The New Year looked promising, in more ways than one.

All Good Things Must Come To An End | C.B.
Tumblr media
Summary: Carter breaks up with you to please his dad.
Author's Note: I may do a part 2 cause damn bro the crying on this gif got me.
Carter hung up the phone quickly. The last sound he heard from the speaker was your sobs. The very cries he protected you from for months. He tried to swallow but the lump in his throat proved it to be too difficult. You were the only girl that really believed in him. He gasped from the pain. Memories of your times together brought him little comfort.
The two of you met at a mixer to recruit community school students to the bigger universities. You were trying to impress some stiff from NYU. The very dream school that denied your admission over two years ago. The dean was not interested in you. Carter, however, was very interested in you.
The dean recognized him immediately because of his family's donations. Carter schmoozed with the dean. After a few minutes, the dean agreed for you to shoot your shot in admissions. A friend of Carter Baizen deserves a chance.
While his actions were impressive, you were apprehensive with Carter at first. What did a rich kid want to do with you, a Community College kid? He was rather smart and charming. You couldn't deny he was attractive. The way his light blue eyes stared into your soul.
Happy chances allowed your relationship to grow. He seemed to be everywhere you happened to be. Despite being busy, he made time for you. He seemed interested in whatever you were doing at the time. One day he finally had the courage to ask you out.
Fall was giving an abundance of cooler weather to New York. After classes, you decided to stop at a local cafe for hot chocolate. Your favorite. He brought up light conversation with you. A playful boast on how he helped get you admitted to NYU.
"You owe me," he teased while grabbing two drinks. He handed one of the cups to you. "But I know a way you can make it up to me. You, me, and that open table in the corner,"
The rest was history. Gone were the days of alcohol, gambling, and women. He wanted to be with you. Nights were spent cooking and reading next to each other. He was your biggest supporter when you graduated NYU. You truly saved him. This was the best relationship he ever had in his entire life.
Carter looked down the stairs. His dad grabbed the railing and walked up the marble steps. The very man that you wanted Carter to have a relationship with. Now he was nothing more than the reason behind your broken heart.
"Good job, Carter. Rule number one. Never let a woman come between you and your destiny,"
Carter raised his eyebrows and nodded. A single tear falling from his eye.

Oof!!! This one is sinful!
Your best friend’s dad was a reformed bad boy turned pro baseball player, and he was the sexiest thing you had ever seen. Still had a bit of his bad boy tendencies, and had a taste. For you. When she had a “family thing” to attend to instead of going to her dad’s game, Carter made sure you were treated well. And oops. He booked a hotel that only had one bed….

madam carter baizen president, what about carter with the song traitor by olivia rodrigo?
pairing : carter baizen x reader
warnings : angst, carter is an asshole (sadly), reader is nate’s twin sister
inspired by traitor
Tumblr media
you betrayed me and i know that you'll never feel sorry for the way I hurt. you'd talk to her when we were together. loved you at your worst but that didn't matter, it took you two weeks to go off and date her. guess you didn't cheat but you're still a traitor
She stood in the middle of the high end designer shop, thousands of girls from Constance moving up and down, picking and fighting for different dresses for one of the biggest events before graduation - Cotillion. As a carrier of the Archibald family name, the twin sister of Nate Archibald, Y/N’s RSVP was sent in her behalf before she even understood what it actually was. She didn’t mind doing it, she didn’t mind keeping up the traditions that her family was so overprotective yet she couldn’t say she particularly enjoyed them. She had to be truthful to herself and admit that she did not enjoy the idea of being presented to society as merely a stereotype of what her social status expected her to become. Maybe that was the dream for some girls, but it definitely wasn’t hers. Nevertheless, she had convinced herself to go, after all Rory Gilmore had gone and she had had a blast so why shouldn’t Y/N give it a go? Besides, if she even thought about not going, she was sure her mother would come from the wood work with her dramatic reasons as to why going to Cotillion was important, when it reality there was only one reason why it mattered - reputation.
      - So, which one is yours? - her brother joked, looking away from where Blair was trying on her own dress. Y/N rolled her eyes, raising her hand where a black hanger was with her dress. - White? You’re trying to present yourself as virginal?
       - One of us has to. - she bite back. - Besides, Rory wore white and I wanna wear white.
       - You shouldn’t model your life after a sitcom, Y/N. It’s not gonna be nearly as fun as they portray it.
       - I can always trip you while you’re dancing. That’ll be fun, huh?
       - What’ll be fun will be seeing Carter Baizen escort you when mum and dad don’t even know you’re sneaking around with him.
       - I’m not sneaking around and I told you I’m going alone. - she wasn’t lying. She’d become acquainted with Carter a few years ago and the two had become close friends, both sharing an ambition of travelling around the world, hiking high mountains and looking at the clearest seas but that’s where it ended. At least to him. She’d be lying if she said she didn’t have at least some sort of romantic interest in him. How could she not? He was a handsome man with the same ideals as her, who’d often flirt but she’d convinced herself it was just who he was. Yet, her hopes were always very high at whatever they had. He didn’t look at anyone else like he looked at her, he didn’t hug anyone else like he hugged her and after he left New York, she was the one who he’d still write to yet it never progressed to anything else. She’d rather have him as whatever they were so she could keep him. Of course, Nate was of a different opinion and believed the two were dating, just without the label. - Not everyone can take a Waldorf to Cotillion.
     - You’re not going alone, Y/N. C’mon, we know so many people, so many guys who’d die to take you to Cotillion.
     - It’s really not a big deal.
     - You should just ask him. - Nate told her, before being dragged away by one of the tailors to fix his suit. She had to admit, she was rather keen on seeing her brother in a fitted grey suit.
After deciding there was no point in keeping in that store, hoping to find something else, she stepped outside, dress bag over her shoulder. It was a pretty dress and after all, who does not enjoy to be in a pretty dress and get free food and drink? She continued to walk down the street, mindlessly going through a checklist in her head of things she had to get sorted before Cotillion tonight. As her mind checked out invisible tasks, she spotted Carter just a bit down the street. A smile playfully etched on her cherry stained lips as she walked down to meet him.
     - Hello stranger.
     - Oh, hi princess. - his eyes moved from whatever he had been looking at to look at her, yet something was off. - What you got there? Body bag?
     - Cotillion dress. Not as exciting. - his attention was scattered, eyes looking left and right as if he was looking out for something. - Are you ok, Carter?
     - ‘Course I am. - he wrapped an arm around her shoulder, turning her the opposite way. - Excited for Cotillion?
     -  They always have great stuffed mushrooms and I do intend to have at least a whole tray just for myself.
     - Who’s the poor bastard who’s taking you? Vanderbilt?
     - He’s my cousin, Carter. Besides, I told you I am going by myself.
     - And your mother allowed that?
     - She doesn’t need to know.
     - Sneaky. - he chuckled, stopping as her flat came into view.
     - I wouldn’t have to be sneaky if you escorted me, Baizen. - she meant for it to sound as a joke, but as those words escaped her lips, she realised how oddly passive aggressive they sounded.
     - You know it’s not my thing.
     - I know. - she sighed. - I’m just being silly.
     - I’ll take you for brunch tomorrow. We’ll discuss all the gossip that went on. You know the rules, the one with the best piece of gossip wins and the other one pays.
     - You better bring your wallet, Baizen. - she opened the door of her building, bidding her goodbyes before quickly climbing up the stairs to get ready.
Sure, part of her wished he would escort her and be her date but he despised the idea of Cotillion more than she did and she wouldn’t want him to be uncomfortable the whole night. Besides, if she went alone, she probably would get to change her own introduction speech and make a splash for the family. No publicity is bad publicity, after all. As the sun set down, she was being rushed into the car by her mother, hair set with pearl strings all around which matched the ones that hanged from her earrings. She felt pretty, she had to admit. However, as she stepped into the limo where Blair and Nate was, she couldn’t help but imagine how things would’ve been if Carter had taken her. He would’ve brought her favourite lilies as a corsage, just as when he came back from Florence on her birthday and surprised her with a whole bouquet of white lilies and roses. He’d probably have his tie a bit too loose, as he always did whenever he was inevitably forced to wear one. They would dance the whole night to classical pieces. Yet, all these past tenses were merely ghosts in her brain and as they pulled in front of the building hosting Cotillion, she realised she was alone. He wasn’t here, he didn’t make it a priority to escorting her. But it was okay, she’d never want him to do something which would make him uncomfortable.
As per usual, they were fashionably late as Blair put it and were rushed to the big staircase. She’d seen it before with her cousins own cotillion ceremonies - two big staircases facing each other, one had all the girls and the other the boys. Normally, she’d be looking at whoever was escorting her but since she was about to be escorted by her own self, she merely looked at her own white shoes, contrasting with the gold gown Serena, who was in front of her, was wearing. As long as she didn’t trip or fall down the stairs, it would be fine.
     - Escorting Serena van der Woodsen is Carter Baizen. - her eyes looked up as she wondered if her own tired brain was playing jokes on her. But it wasn’t.
They were there. He was here, in the centre, by Serena’s side, escorting her. The sound of the room all went quiet and all she could hear was the buzzing in her ears and her heart drop to her stomach. There were no thoughts in her brain and she didn’t seem to even acknowledge what was happening around her, all she felt was an overwhelming pain and her chest tightening.
    - Next is Y/N Archibald, daughter of Howard and Anne Archibald, escorted by ... - she went down the stairs, standing in the centre by her self as she felt the whole world staring at her.
    - Me. - she looked to her left to see Chuck Bass run down the stairs to stand by her side. - Sorry, I’m late.
    - Thank you. - she mouthed to Chuck as they went down the stairs.
    - He’s an ass. - Chuck said as they reached the floor. Immediately, Nate and Blair came over to her side. - I’ll stick around for when we have to dance.
    - Thank you, Chuck.
    - I thought you said he didn’t like these things. - Nate was mad, everyone with a pair of eyes could see it.
    - Not now.
    - Yes, now, Y/N. He humiliated you.
    - He didn’t ... he’s just a traitor.

What are some GG dynamics that you wish the show had gone deeper into? Whether romantic, platinic, or just as character foils to each other.
oooh WHAT a fun question! I have many thoughts buckle up...
I mean this also goes hand in hand with the question of what characters would I have liked to see more of, such as: Scott, Aaron Rose, hell, even Eric, we got so precious little of him. I've written some thoughts about Scott here, but I would have loved to see more of him fitting into the van der humphrey clan. Hell, we were so jipped of the van der humphreys in general, bc there was always at least one beef going on. Aaron Rose is literally Blair's step brother, and we never saw him after he and Serena didn't go on vacation together! the comedy gold that would have been Blair having a sibling for the first time in her life! we were ROBBED. And whenever Eric was around, with any of his family it was so good, and I would have loved to see more of him with Blair & Nate, because if they & Serena raised each other, that means they also had a hand in raising Eric too, right?
Others that I would have loved to see: Dan & Blair's parents, all four of em. I just know that all her dads would LOVE him, and he and Eleanor interacting would be both hilarious AND interesting. I maintain that we missed a golden opportunity for Vanessa and Blair to become friends at NYU. this moment? and for what???
actually, let me add Vanessa to the list of characters I just generally wanted more. Her moments as an honorary Humphrey are wonderful, but I would have loved to get to revel in her connections with other characters, specifically Serena and Nate. She and Serena had a great foundation of friendship. They did a Pygmalion together! And I absolutely did not get enough natessa, romantic and otherwise. as a romantic ship I really enjoyed them, but when they were friends they were great too!!!
also on the romantic route, i did not get enough van der baizen, that was a relationship that really felt unfinished, and I would have loved if it were given a fair and fighting chance. I've also kinda thought that Carter and Jenny in the same room would be fun. Not as a ship, but I think they would get a kick out of each other. And speaking of Serena and Jenny, remember when they were friends? when Serena was a de facto big sister? that rocked.
I feel like I could go on and on. In a show with a sizable ensemble cast, and a selection of recurring and guest stars that left me wanting more, there will always be some modicum of Not Enough!...have I mentioned how grateful I am for fanfic?

You know that part in Elf where Buddy decks the mall out with paper decorations to further celebrate the joy of Christmas?  That’s what the Hyacinth Hotel lobby looked like.  Like Buddy the Elf had personally decorated it.
As soon as guests walked in they were metaphorically transported to the North Pole.  There was a huge Christmas tree in the centre of the lobby, decorated perfectly.  Dustings of tinsel dripped from the pine, with gorgeous red, white and gold baubles hanging from the end of the branches.  An elaborate train track was set up to rotate around the tree, and there were even boxes wrapped and placed under the tree.
All empty, unfortunately.  Purely for decoration.  Simply to add to the Christmas spirit, which all of the children loved.
But if you looked closely, you’d see that all of the baubles were decorated differently.  All within the same colour scheme, but personalised by the children who attended the holiday club the hotel ran.  Some had their names.  Some had glitter, sequins, and ribbons adding to theirs.
That wasn’t the only activity they hotel offered.  On some days they took the kids outside to play in the snow.  Having snowball fights, or building snowmen, but the crowd favourite was sledding.  And afterwards, always after, they were treated to hot chocolates and a warm meal inside.  All at no cost to the parents.
That was the one thing the owner of the hotel assured.  The holiday programme was included in the cost of the stay – it wasn’t but the guests didn’t need to know that.  He wanted to make sure that all the kids had equal opportunity to have a good time, because he knew what it was like to spend holidays in hotels all over the world.  He knew how boring it could be stuck inside watching movies, when all they wanted to do was hang out with other kids their age.
Ever since the birth of his own son, he’d made sure that all kinds of activities were available for kids of all ages.  Those who were old enough to be left unsupervised could still attend if they wanted to, but it was more intended for the younger kids and pre-teens.  Those were the ages where you got dragged everywhere with your parents.  Where you’d be stuck inside your hotel room while they worked, or had to bring you along with them.
Having grown up and lived through the same experiences, Carter Baizen made sure there was always some kind of holiday programme running.  Even if there was no holiday, if the parents expressed their child might like to partake in the activities the hotel was offering, there was always something happening.
The hotels decorations constantly blew guests away.  There was always a small pause as soon as new guests arrived, stopping in their tracks to actually admire the interior of the lobby.  Never expecting to see the tinsel around the front desk, or the bowl of candy that got refilled by an elf every hour.  Amazed by the lights that were strung up on the ceiling, which when illuminated read “Merry Christmas”.
Everyone was gobsmacked.  And Carter never grew sick of watching their reactions whenever he caught them.
Y/N had only worked for Hyacinth for less than eight months.  She’d been taken on for her culinary genius as the head pastry chef, but dabbled more with cooking the meals than preparing award-winning desserts.
For Halloween she’d crafted small treats for all the guests to hand out when the children roamed the halls trick or treating.  But other than that, and revamping the dessert menu, she hadn’t really had the chance to truly showcase her talent.
Until she had the wild idea to further the Christmas spirit, and what better way than to create an elaborate gingerbread house that looked like the Hyacinth Hotel?  Y/N thought it was a genius idea, and while the rest of the kitchen staff worked on the regular meals for guests, she took up a small space of the kitchen to turn her idea into a reality.
So far, it had taken over ten days of sketching and practise baing in her own home before she’d bought the idea to work.  Needing to find the perfect length of time to bake the gingerbread for so that it could stand up without crumbling, and how best to decorate it.  Finding the right consistency of frosting so that it acted like glue to hold all the bits together.
By two the lunch rush was over and the kitchen was closed until five, giving Y/N at least three hours to bake and decorate once the pieces were cool.  Unfortunately for her, all the staff were gossiping about the gingerbread masterpiece she was working on.  Her fellow chefs were wanting to offer their help, but she felt like she had to prove exactly why Mr. Baizen had hired her as the head pastry chef.  So they’d all been temporarily banned from the kitchen until it was time for the dinner rush.
And so they gossipped.  Telling everyone what Y/N was up to, and building up the hype for her gingerbread masterpiece.
She didn’t mind the gossip.  She knew how good she was, but it was the timeframe she was a little worried about.  It was why she’d baked a bunch of gingerbread between the breakfast and lunch rushes.  So that her walls were ready, and at most, all she had to do was stick it all together.  Oh, and decorate it.
Three hours was plenty of time before its debut, right?
Y/N blew out a breath.  She had some serious work to do.
“Kitchen’s closed!”  Y/N hollered, hearing the door rattle as it swung shut.  Hearing no response she sighed, placing the piping bag down on the bench, and went to investigate.  “I said the kitchen is closed!”
“Sorry,” a little voice said.  Y/N looked down at the ground, where Parker Baizen was hiding behind one of the large pots.  “Hannah said you bake gingebread hotel?”
Hannah was one of the girls who ran the holiday program.  Y/N had made it clear that the gingerbread masterpiece would be ready before dinner, so that guests could marvel at it and hopefully it made them crave a dessert.  There was never anything better than sweet food on Christmas Eve, and Y/N had been given permission to release a new Christmas dessert menu for the week leading up to the big day.
Y/N sighed, smiling as she crouched down and held out her hand.  “You want to help me?  I could use a sous chef.”
Parker smiled a big, toothy smile.  A couple of his front teeth missing.  “I help,” he said, taking Y/N’s hand and letting her lead him to the sink so he could wash his hands.
She’d only met Carter a handful of times, but she’d seen him with his son almost every day since she started working for Hyacinth.  They lived up in the penthouse suite, and Parker attended the school just down the road.  Every morning they’d dine in the restaurant for breakfast.  Parker had a special request of Cheerios and orange juice, and Carter often had just a coffee.  Every now and then, at Parker’s request, he’d eat something for breakfast.  But more often than not, it was just the black coffee.
Every Sunday they treated themselves to pancakes or waffles, and Y/N liked to personally take their meals out to them.  Parker was a sweet kid, and Carter always appreciated knowing exactly who had prepared his food.  After a while, whenever he saw Y/N heading towards them with their food, he stopped being such a worry wart.  She was one of the best.  He’d grown to trust her, and sometimes he’d surprise himself and order bacon and eggs during the week.
If not only for the chance to see her.
Parker dried his hands while Y/N found a stool for him.  Setting it up beside her so he could stand up and see the progress she’d made so far.
“What do you think?”  She asked him.  “Is it starting to look like the outside of the hotel?”
        He hummed.  “Needs more Christmas.”
Y/N laughed.  “I agree.  It needs a lot more Christmas.”
And so they got to work.  Y/N enlisted his help in holding pieces of gingerbread together while the frosting hardened.  And slowly but surely, the gingerbread masterpiece was starting to come together.  Even if Parker got sidetracked helping, so that he could eat the offcuts of gingerbread.  Y/N appreciated the five minutes it gave her to blitz out some of the piping decorations required to make the outside of the gingerbread hotel look like the outside of the real hotel.
Then Parker was back to helping her set up the fondant trees, and cover the board in frosting.  He held the fountain in place while she attached the blue coloured white chocolate to make it look like water was pouring out of it.  She laid some grey and silver sprinkles over the board, making it look like the gravel of the road, and he watched excitedly as it all came together.
        “Y/N?”  Parker asked.  “Need snow.”
“I think you’re right, Parker,” she agreed.  “Help me to find the powdered sugar?  We can sprinkle it over everything to make it look like fresh snow.”
        “And snowman!”
“I’ll see what I can do about the snowman,” she assured him, already thinking about what she could use to make it, and coming up with one option.  To make it out of fondant.  Fortunately, she still had some left over from the fountain she’d made, so all she had to do was shape it and stick it in the front grounds of the sculpture.
Parker grabbed the container of powdered sugar, and Y/N found a sieve.  That way the ‘snow’ was distributed evenly, and Parker could do it while she made the snowman.  Y/N taught him how to lightly tap the sieve with the powdered sugar in it, and he giggled when he first did it unassisted.  She beamed at him and encouraged him to look at what he was doing while she created his snowman.
“Daddy!”  Parker squealed.  “Look at masterpiece!”
Y/N looked up from the snowman.  She’d managed to have enough red fondant to make a small carrot for a nose, and a scarf for the snowman.  Far too deep in concentration to realise someone had just entered the kitchen.  She looked up from the fondant, grateful for the break.  Her eyes had been straining trying to focus on the minor detailing of the snowman, so she appreciated actually having something of normal size to look at.
“He’s not bothering you, is he?”  Carter asked, slowly walking towards the station Y/N had set up.
“Not at all,” she replied with a smile and a heavy exhale.  “We’ve been hard at work, right Parker?”
He hummed, still focusing on sprinkling ‘snow’ over the gingerbread hotel.  “It’s gingebread hotel.  I soup chef.”
Y/N laughed softly at Carter’s confusion.  “I called him my sous chef earlier.  I’m picking that’s what he means,” she explained.  He nodded slowly, a smile spread over his face.
“It looks good,” he commented.  “Amazing, actually.  The snow looks great, Park.”
“Thanks, daddy,” he replied.  “Y/N make snowman, too.”
“I’m trying, at least,” she said, holding up the fondant creation.  The snowman, had sprinkles for eyes and buttons down his midriff, and the scarf was loosely hanging around his neck.  She hadn’t gotten the chance to wrap it around properly yet, but she would.  “He just needs arms now.”
“Everyone’s going to be blown away by this,” he assured both Parker and Y/N.  They beamed at him in response.  “I heard all the chatter about the gingerbread masterpiece you were whipping up, and I figured I’d find Parker here.  Hannah said he snuck out of the holiday club today.”
“I wanted help,” Parker explained.  “Only colouring in club.  This better.”
“I’m sorry, I should have told someone to let you know he was here,” Y/N apologised.  “I didn’t even think.”
“I would’ve worried if I didn’t find him here,” Carter replied earnestly.  “It’s fine.  Park, little man, you need to make sure you tell Hannah where you’re going next time, okay?”
Parker sighed.  “I’m sorry, daddy.  Just wanted help.”
Carter leaned forward to kiss Parker’s head, assuring him it was okay.  He kept his hand on Parker’s shoulder.  “You guys mind if I stay and watch you finish up?”
“Yes,” Y/N said.  “Go and wash your hands.  We have a lot of work left to do, and three pairs of hands are better than two.”
“Yeah, daddy.  Help!”  Parker chastised, making both adults laugh.  Carter did as he was told.  Parker went back to applying ‘snow’ to the gingerbread hotel, and Y/N tried to get the scarf to look normal on the snowman.  Eventually giving up and creating some arms from tinfoil before placing the snowman on the board.  Parker made sure to cover him in some more snow.
Y/N asked for Carter’s help to tidy up some of the piping, or to finish it in places it was lacking.  Surprisingly he had quite a steady hand, and an eye for detail.  She carefully swapped out the windows on the gingerbread with candied ones, that offered a blurred sight into the hotel.  If you took the top off, you’d see the replica fondant tree and decorations that paralleled the interior of the lobby.  It really was a masterpiece.
        Buddy would be proud.
“We’ve got two minutes before the staff are going to have to come in and fire everything up for dinner service,” Y/N said.  “Do you boys think we’re finished?  Are we ready to take this masterpiece out to the dining area for everyone to see?”
        “Yes!”  Parker squealed.  “So amazing!”
“I think that’s a yes, boss,” Carter replied, dazzling her with a smile.  Y/N clapped her hands together, excitedly.  “Park, you want to go and make sure we have plenty of room to bring this out?”
The little boy hopped off his stool and raced out of the kitchen.  Carter turned to Y/N.
“You’ve outdone yourself,” he told her.
“It’s what you hired me for,” she reminded him.  “I’m literally just doing my job.”
“I meant babysitting Parker at the same time,” he said, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.  “I already knew you were an amazing chef.  Thank you for letting him help.  I know it would’ve meant a lot to him.”
“He’s such a good kid,” Y/N replied.  “He’s more than welcome back in my kitchen anytime he likes.  It’s hard to find a good sous chef.”  She shot him a wink and he laughed.  “Seriously, he’s a good kid, Carter.  It’s hardly babysitting.”
“Thank you,” he said almost bashfully.  Y/N smiled back at him.
“C’mon.  It’s time to take this masterpiece out for everyone to see.”
