Henry Ruark: He actually wanted to work out today but the news of his brother wanting to move has made it for him impossible to move. He would have been fine here, won't make a big deal of moving but ugh. He can't stand his brother. Why just not let everybody decide what to do for themselfs? Why can't he just not make his own plan? NUJ withdraws members covering Akwa Ibom House of Assembly

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council on Wednesday, withdrew all her members covering the State House of Assembly with immediate effect. This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the State Congress of the union held at its secretariat, which was jointly signed by the State Council Chairman, Comrade Amos Etuk, State Council Secretary, Comrade Dominic Akpan, Comrade Iniobong Ekponta, Chairman of Communique Drafting Committee, Comrade Dianime Uko, Secretary Drafting Committee and Comrade Emem Okon. The communique noted that the order was as a result of the appointment of a non-journalist, Mr Nkereuwem Udom, as the Press Secretary to the Speaker, Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Mr Udeme Otong. According to the communique, the union warned that any member that defaults the directive of the congress will face servere sanctions. The communique in parts, “Congress directed all journalists covering the activities of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, including the Press Corps to withdraw their services with immediate effect over the appointment of a non-journalist as the Press Secretary (Head of Press Corps) by the Speaker, Mr Udeme Otong. “Congress frowned at this development and consequently warned that any defaulting member of the Union shall face severe sanctions,” communique stated. The communique also called on the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency to take immediate action against indiscriminate dumping of refuse along Atiku Abubakar Way, which has blocked drainage causing flooding in the area. The union in the communique called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to henceforth enforce the law, arrest and prosecute drivers, who drive against traffic (wrong way drive) as the ugly development always cause road crashes. “Congress called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police and other authorities involved in traffic management to arrest and prosecute motorists who drive against the traffic as the ugly development has often resulted in accidents and injuries. “Congress also noted that the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, has shortchanged oil producing communities in Akwa Ibom State by not remitting the funds generated from fines from gas flaring in the affected communities to them directly, as enshrined in the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA. Congress, therefore, urged NUPRC to henceforth start paying gas flaring fines to the affected communities.” The communique further called on the Nigeria Police Force Akwa Ibom Command and other security agencies in the state to step up their surveillance and come up with measures to arrest the increasing cases of phone theft in Uyo metropolis. I Miss My Old Father

It has been four-weeks since I returned “home,” but I am still not used to everything. This “home” is much larger than I am used to. There are four bedrooms, and one of them is mine. I never had my own room before this. My last home was small and I lived only with my father. The people I am told are my parents gave me this room. It is so confusing. I stayed up all night the first time the policeman brought me here.

My birthday was yesterday, and I turned six, and my new parents spent all day with me. They don’t like it when I call them my “new” parents. Mother really doesn’t like it. It makes her cry, so I try not to say it, but I forget sometimes. The nice policeman has visited a few times since I have been here. He asks me lots of questions about my last home.

He was also the first one to tell me that the man I had been living with was not my real father. He had taken me when I was a baby and raised me as his own. I don’t understand what that means. Thinking about it makes me cry. I cry sometimes. When I am alone in bathroom. My new parents don’t like seeing me cry.

I remember when he brought me here. He told me, “Fiona, these people are your real parents, and they have missed you very much.”

I like his voice. It sounds nice, and calming. But I don’t like my new “home.” It doesn’t feel like home. Sometimes I wish I could go back to my father. I asked the people I live with now if I can meet my old father, but they did not like that.

They told me that he was not my real father and is in jail now. That makes me sad. Why is he in jail? I want to go home with him. I don’t care he wasn’t my real father. I love him.

Today, my new mother hugged me from behind, and I hugged her back. My old father taught me to hug tightly, so I did. My new mother started crying. I like her hair, it is red like mine. But I don’t like when she cries. She also told me she will keep me safe now, but I don’t know what that means.

My new father looks at me all the time. I asked him why, but he said nothing. I don’t mind. He reminds me of my old father, except he wants me to talk to other children. My old father did not like me talking to others. He said if I loved him and wanted to stay with him, I can’t talk to anyone. I didn’t like that, but I love my old father, so I did what he asked.

When I told my new father this, he looked sad. He hugged me and told me I am safe. I still don’t know what that means. I just wish to go home now. This new home is good, but I like my old home better. I miss my old father. I even miss his smelly cigarettes that he smoked every day. I did not like the smoke hurting my eyes. I hope to see my old father again, but I try not to say that anymore because it makes my new parent sad.

47 Days Before Christmas

It was another unproductive Sunday and I slepyt late last nght. I was drunk and I can’t control myself not to talk to him. I chatted him and he replied back to me. I removed my chat and sent another one but I removed it again.

When I woke up, he chatted me around lunchtime and he said, “Ano na naman yan?” His approach to me is like I am giving him headaches. When he is in need of me, I never responded to him that way. I feel sensitive and fragile over his words. I wanted to confess all to him personally. I wanted to tell him my burden and his actions that made me fall in love again.

I tried not to talk to him after that but I need to send him our payments so I sent him the receipt and I never expected him to respond. Yet, he still did. The entire day I tried not to make chances to talk to him.

I fell asleep in the afternoon and I decided to go out to breathe. I went to a nearby grocery and bought ingredients for spaghetti. I asked Mom to teach me how to make the sauce and so in the future I know how to cook it by myself. It was fun and I liked how it turned out.

While watching a movie on Netflix, he tagged me in a post. about thr Korean Series that I have been eyeing lately. He kniws how I love the series and now he is making ways to have conversation about me on that series. He even asked me what time will it be aired? Weh nwill it be? Have I seen it? Etc...

I don’t know if he is doing to this to me intentionally. I don’t know why he kept on remembering me when he shouldn’t be. Why is he always taking me back to fall? Aren’t you sick of me? Aren’t you feel annoyed with me?

Let me go. I’m slowly letting you go. I am slowly trying to get rid of your trace. I am slowly trying not to remember everything that you do. I wanted to be happy, Jehan. I know and I already accepted that you will never liked me. But please let me go. I am tired already and sick of this feeling. I have been patient on you but I never felt that to you.

Good night.
