I have just finished the first season of The Midnight Club and I loved it, in terms of characters dyanmics and themes explored, how the supernatural is woven in interpersonal conflicts, it’s up there with The Haunting of Hill House. I wished the supernatural had gotten more explored, especially in the last couple of episodes, but there’s always season 2 for this.

It did make me think of a couple of parallels between characters in both shows. Spoilers under the cut I guess?

Doctor Stanton = Steven Crain, they both reject the supernatural with all their might and stick to a strictly scientic view of the world. For better (Dr Stanton who chose the path of kindness) and worse (Steve who hid his fears from everyone around him, driving them away)

Aceso = Poppy, for their role as agent of evil in the show, embracing the Darkness and making other fall to join them.

Shasta = Olivia, normal at first, but a couple of latent issues that made her easy to be manipulated and they both succombed to the evil, perpuating the circle and bringing in new victims.

Ilonka = I would say that the closest character I can think of is Nell? Both of them fall prey to someone they loved and who in the end hurt them/manipulated to their doom (or almost doom in Ilonka case). Again both had issues that Shasta/Olivia took advantage of (Nell’s loneliness, Ilonka stubborn refusal to accept her fate)

Ohmygod, Zelma and Darcy know and text each other??? I ship it. Lol I wonder if they talk about how similar they look. Wanda and Stephen must be confused why they have assistants/librarians that look nearly identical.

ALSO WANDA AND JERICHO!!! I miss them and I wish we got to see their relationship more before they broke up due to editorial reasons. Marvel probably wants Wanda and Vision back together and while I'm not completely against it, they'll have A LOT of baggage to work through.

Midnight Suns #1 preview!!

I’m just so excited to read this book!! I always wanted to see Zoe in a more important role outside the Strange Academy book (she makes a better protagonist than Emily anyways), so here’s her chance to shine!

I also adore when the magic users feel the same disturbance all over the world because it shows how they’re connected!

There are some hints. Agatha saying “not again” makes me believe this kind of event has happened in the past. I remember the official article saying it’s a new threat so we’ll have to wait and see. But pretty sure the teachers will protect Zoe for SURE (finally some respect towards thhe teachers and not just shade ugh).

I do hope Clea shows up at some point with Wong, tho! I need her to interact more with the rest of the Marvel Universe. She’s been Sorcerer Supreme for MONTHS now!! Come on!!

Lastly, my bet is that Victor will try to fix things his way and that’s the conflict we’ll have between him and the team. But I hardly think he’ll be involved further as soon as he realizes the teachers won’t accept his methods.

So are we just gonna ignore the fact MoM introduced Zelma Stanton or…?

Hopefully they’ll actually do something with her character and not have her three-second appearance just be an easter egg.

For those of you who aren’t comic readers, Zelma starts off a woman he basically recruited to organize his books so he wouldn’t be lonely but quickly becomes someone who Stephen can rely on because he was lonely and who isn’t afraid to put Stephen in his place. She even helps run Strange Academy (his school).
