If Dominican were a color, it would be the sunset in the sky, blazing red and burning bright. If Dominican were a color, it’d be the roar of the ocean in the deep of the night, with the moon beaming down rays of sheer delight. The palette of the Dominican Republic is exuberant and unlimited. Maiz comes up amarillo, the blue-black of dreams washes over sandy shores, and people’s skin can be the shade of cinnamon in cocoa or of mahogany. This exuberantly colorful, softly rhyming picture book is a gentle reminder that a nation’s hues are as wide as nature itself. Días en los que es difícil salir de la cama, dar ese sonrisa que usualmente brota con facilidad. De esos días en los que sientes que la vida se viene encima pero no sabes si tienes permitido sentir dolor, porque hay muchas cosas alrededor, porque temes que tus sentimientos hieran a otros y es mejor seguir lastimandote antes de decir "me duele el alma".

De esos días en los que nada te levanta el animo, todo sale mal y nada va como debería. El corazón duele, la garganta se vuelve un nudo y el estómago se retuerce en formas físicamente imposible. Días en los que te sientes sol@ y no existen salidas, soluciones o ese rayito de sol que te sostenga anclada a la orilla; en esos días que sientas miedo de volver atrás, de caer ante la oscuridad que amenaza con reclamarte y desbaratar lo que haz logrado, quiero que sepas que podrás salir iles@. Que la vida continúa y tú también lo harás.

No eres la tristeza que te agobia o esa lágrima que intentas esconder. No eres tus problemas, ese nudo n el garganta ni mucho menos el peso en tu alma. Eres la sonrisa de cada mañana, tu propio rayo de luz, la chispa que insiste en luchar porque extinguirse no está a discusión. Eres tantas cosas buenas, incluso con esas otras tantas. Eres tu canción favorita, vives en los momentos con las personas que te quieren, el postre que te endulza las tardes y el cafecito que te calienta el alma cada mañana, eres esa mirada llena de sueños, la valentía que vive bajo tu piel, eres la lluvia que refresca las calles, el sol que brilla a medio día y la luna que ilumina la noche.
