Something that I’ve kind of seen a couple of times are Puss In Boots AU’s with Leo as Puss In Boots & I’ve really liked them so something that I was kind of wondering about is if in the scene where Puss In Boots meets his past lives, would Rise Leo meet other characters that Ben Schwartz has played or would Rise meet previous incarnations of Leonardo instead.

Public Domain cartoon characters from Golden Age comic books
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit going (mostly) into the public domain is a pretty big deal. In the next ten years a lot of animation from the 1930s will wind up in the hands of all artists who want to use them. But did you know there's a huge amount of cartoon characters from the 1940s that are totally free to use? It isn't just cartoons that starred on the silver screen that have fallen out of copyright. (Of course, I'm using the word "cartoon" somewhat loosely...)
See, when US copyright law was revised in 1976 and went into effect in 1978, works created before 1964 were required to have their copyright renewed before the end of 1980, or else they would become public domain. Hundreds if not thousands of Hollywood movies and other types of media had been made by studios and publishing companies that went bankrupt and were completely dissolved decades prior to this new law. This included the cartoons made by studios such as Bray, Van Beuren, and many others- but it also included comic books.
If you weren't a big comic book company like DC or Marvel, chances are you shuttered your doors sometime in the 1950s or early 1960s. And during the 1940s, with the rise in popularity of Looney Tunes, Woody Woodpecker, Tom and Jerry, and Droopy, comic book publishers were printing tons and tons of comic books starring wacky, slapstick-oriented animal characters. Most of these titles went out of copyright, and there are lots of fun and interesting characters to be found in them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the most historically notable is Supermouse. When the first Mighty Mouse cartoon premiered, he was called Supermouse, but what they didn't know was that Pines comics had already taken the name, and successfully sued for copyright infringement even though they were both parodies of Superman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the most interesting titles I've come across is Funny Films. The conceit of the series is that these are actually cartoons you can watch in a movie theater, except it's a comic book. A bit confusing, I know.
The end result is a series of fourth wall breaks so absolutely thorough in their scope that the fourth wall really doesn't exist anymore, barring actually jumping out of the page (or your computer screen) and blowing up your living room. They talk to the audience, jump out of the screen, and even show up late for the cartoon to start. This is of course the bookends to a whole bunch of slapstick gags and goofy dialogue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another interesting series, especially if you're a fan of Archie, is Hi-Jinx. They basically took the premise of teeny-boppers in high school and made them into funny animals. Most of the stories have something to do with swing music and dancing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And although they're crudely drawn, one of the more unique character concepts is Pussy Katnip, found in various titles scattered across the mid-1940s, usually buried amongst a bunch of more normal stories with ordinary human characters. Pussy Katnip looks like one of your classic film noir glamorous beauties, except she's an anthropomorphic cat. Think Minerva Mink but feline. She may appear to be a femme fatale at first, but she's actually a crimefighter. To do this she chugs a mysterious beverage that gives her enhanced strength and intelligence. She's sort of a mystery-solving superhero.
Tumblr media
Her appearances are random and kind of hard to find. Here are the titles of the ones currently circulating online: All Your Comics (1944 issue) All Top Comics (one-shot) All Good Comics Everybody’s Comics (1944 issue) Green Mask v1 #11 Ribtickler v1 #1 All Great Comics (1945 issue) Book of All-Comics Green Mask v2 #2 Rocket Kelly #2 Zoot Comics #1
Often these comics, especially in the early '40s, remind me of the artwork of underground comics of the '70s- not quite rubberhose, not quite Looney Tunes. The kind of thing you might find on a punkabilly album cover.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And ocassionally you'll come across characters with a suspiciously familiar name:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One thing to watch out for is the occasional Donald Duck knock-off, some more obvious than others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now you may be asking: Where can I read these comics? Simple: https://digitalcomicmuseum.com/ Just be sure you have the right software to read them. I use cooViewer. Another incredibly useful resource is www.comics.org.
So if you're like me and you're too impatient to wait for Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck to fall out of copyright, and you want to do something more unusual and unexpected, there are dozens and dozens of comic books with silly, wacky characters that can be utilized in your own original stories, cartoons, and what have you- and you can monetize them too!

Compare/Contrast of Puss In Boots and Kitty Softpaws And Scrooge McDuck and Goldie O’Gilt
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok. Here I’ll be doing a compare/contrast between Puss In Boots and Kitty Softpaws and Scrooge McDuck and Goldie O’Gilt. It occurred to me that those 2 duos have quite a bit in common but are also a bit different. Also, Spoiler Alert for the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie and the DuckTales (2017) TV series. With that out of the way, let’s dive right in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both members of both duos were in love with each other but they also had trust issues. As shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, Puss In Boots and Kitty Softpaws were in love with each other but they had trust issues since Puss didn’t show up for his and Kitty’s wedding. And as shown in the episode ‘The Golden Lagoon Of White Agony Plains!’, Scrooge McDuck and Goldie O’Gilt were in love with each other but they had trust issues since during all their previous encounters, Goldie would usually stab Scrooge in the back. Another similarity between them here is that both duos were able to overcome their distrust during an encounter that had something to do with prolonging a person’s life. For Puss In Boots and Kitty Softpaws, there was the encounter they had while searching for the Wishing Star which Puss wanted in order to restore his other 8 lives as also shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie where Puss eventually put his desire for the Wishing Star aside and even offered it to Kitty. And for Scrooge McDuck and Goldie O’Gilt, there was the encounter they had while searching for the Fountain Of The Foreverglades which Scrooge and Goldie wanted in order to stay young as shown in the episode ‘The Forbidden Fountain Of The Foreverglades!’ where, after realizing that would mean taking other peoples’ youth away, Scrooge put his desire for it aside and Goldie later followed suit when she sacrifice the youth she gained from it to save Scrooge. The difference between them there, though, is whether one or both of them wanted to prolong their lives and how their desire for it could’ve effected their relationship. As shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, only Puss wanted the Wishing Star to prolong his lives and tried to use it for himself to do so which almost resulted in Kitty severing all ties with him since she figured that meant that Puss still loved himself more than he loved her. As shown in the episode ‘The Forbidden Fountain Of The Foreverglades!’, both Scrooge and Goldie wanted the Fountain Of The Foreverglades to stay young forever since, as Goldie said: “We spent our whole lives at each other’s throats, Scroogey. But what if we can do it over again knowing everything we know now, avoiding the same mistakes. This is our chance at a fresh start.” So, in the case of Puss In Boots and Kitty Softpaws, one of them almost pushed the other away to prolong his life whereas, in the case of Scrooge McDuck and Goldie O’Gilt, both of them at first wanted to prolong their lives to live with each other forever.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both duos have a member who really loves adventure. For Puss In Boots and Kitty Softpaws, there was Puss In Boots who, as shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, got really excited while he was fighting several guards and also a rampaging giant. And for Scrooge McDuck and Goldie O’Gilt, there was Scrooge McDuck who, as shown in the episode ‘The First Adventure!’, got really excited while he was fighting to help get the Papyrus Of Binding. Another similarity between them there is that both Puss In Boots and Scrooge McDuck, for a time, quit adventuring after a traumatic event. As also shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, Puss, for a time, quit adventuring after his ninth and last life was almost ended by Death themselves. And as shown in the episode ‘Woo-oo!’, Scrooge, for a time, quit adventuring after, as shown in the episode ‘The Last Crash Of The Sunchaser!’, his niece Della Duck was lost in space. The difference between them there, though, is that Puss quit after he almost lost his last life whereas Scrooge quit after he lost a loved one. Another difference between them here is what got them back on their feet in the end. As shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, Puss overcame his fear of death by facing off against Death themselves and learning to not take his life for granted. And as shown in the episode ‘Woo-oo!’, Scrooge got back on his feet after his great nephews motivated him to go out adventuring again and also, as shown in the episode ‘The Shadow War Part 1: The Night Of De Spell!’, Scrooge later finally overcame the trauma from the loss of his niece after Lena made him realize just how amazing his family is and to not push them away. Another similarity between them there is that they both, along the way, learned to not push the people around them away. As shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, Puss learned to not push the people around him like Kitty and Perrito away. And as I already pointed out, Scrooge learned to not push the people around him like his family away. The difference between them there is what this had to do with their adventures. As also shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, Puss was so caught up with himself and his adventures that he didn’t show up for his and Kitty’s wedding. And as also shown in the episode ‘The Shadow War Part 1: The Night Of De Spell!’, Scrooge was so depressed in the aftermath of losing his family that he couldn’t take care of his home let alone go out adventuring. So, Puss was too caught up with his adventures to focus on the people around him whereas Scrooge was too caught up with losing his family to focus on his adventures.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both duos had a member who is a very skilled thief. For Puss In Boots and Kitty Softpaws, there’s Kitty Softpaws who, as shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, snuck into Big Jack Horner’s factory and was able to swipe the map to the Wishing Star from Puss In Boots in the middle of a fight. And for Scrooge McDuck and Goldie O’Gilt, there’s Goldie O’Gilt who, as shown in the episode ‘The Golden Lagoon Of White Agony Plains!’, outwitted Scrooge McDuck and Flintheart Glomgold and took the liquid gold from the Golden Lagoon Of White Agony Plains. Another similarity between them is that they both had problems that had something to do with trustworthiness. As shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, Kitty had a lot of trouble trusting others which is why she wanted to make a wish with the Wishing Star to finally have someone she can trust. And as shown in the episode ‘The Golden Lagoon Of White Agony Plains!’, Scrooge had a lot of trouble trusting Goldie due to her constantly stabbing him in the back. The difference between them there, though, is that Kitty had trouble trusting other people whereas Goldie had trouble being trusted by other people. Another similarity between Kitty and Goldie is that they both also crossed paths with a young kid who they formed a bond with and took under their wing despite their problems with trustworthiness. For Kitty Softpaws, there was Perrito as shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie where Kitty eventually befriended Perrito despite her being initially skeptical about his trustworthiness. And for Goldie O’Gilt, there was Louie Duck as shown in the episode ‘Happy Birthday Doofus Drake!’ where Goldie put herself at risk to save Louie despite initially stabbing him in the back and also where Louie, in turn, saved her despite his own doubts about her motives. The difference between them there is that Kitty looked past her trust issues to befriend Perrito whereas Goldie looked past her selfishness to save Louie which caused Louie to look past his distrust to save her in turn. Also, another similarity between them there is that they both taught them how to con and trick others. As shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, Kitty helped teach Perrito how to do cute puppy dog eyes just like how her and Puss do their cute cat eyes. And, as shown in the episode ‘Happy Birthday Doofus Drake!’, Goldie helped teach Louie how to expose other peoples’ cons in order to gain another person’s trust. The difference between them there, though, is what Perrito and Louie used those skills for. As also shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, Perrito used those skills to distract Jack Horner since he just wanted to help Puss and Kitty whereas, as also shown in the episode ‘Happy Birthday Doofus Drake!’, Louie used those skills to try to get Doofus Drake’s gift bags along with Goldie since he wanted to get rich quick. I’ll be going over Perrito and Louie more in my next point. Speaking of which…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both members of both duos had an encounter with a young kid who they practically took in and who accompanied and helped them on their adventures. For Puss In Boots and Kitty Softpaws, there’s Perrito who, as shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, helped Puss and Kitty find the Wishing Star and the 3 of them formed a team called Team Friendship. And for Scrooge McDuck and Goldie O’Gilt, there’s Louie Duck who, as shown in the episode ‘Woo-oo!’, Scrooge took in and who started accompanying Scrooge along with the rest of his family on adventures and also who, as shown in the episode ‘Happy Birthday Doofus Drake!’ and as I already pointed out in my previous point, Goldie took under her wing and formed a bond with. The difference between them here is what kind of outlooks Perrito and Louie generally had. As shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, Perrito had a pretty optimistic outlook and he was also a bit oblivious even during some dire situations whereas, as shown in the episode ‘The Most Dangerous Game…Night!’, Louie had a pretty pessimistic outlook and he was also pretty smart to the point that he was able to “see all the angles” in a situation. Another similarity between them is that, in the case of both duos, Perrito and Louie respectively helped them look past their differences and work together in some way shape or form. As shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish, Perrito counseled Puss about what happened between him and Kitty which caused to see how selfish and cowardly he was for not showing up for his and Kitty’s wedding. And, as shown in the episode ‘The Forbidden Fountain Of The Foreverglades!’, seeing Louie trapped helped get Goldie to turn around and help Scrooge when she could’ve just escaped with the youth water. The difference between them here is that Perrito helped Puss and Kitty knowingly whereas Louie helped Scrooge and Goldie inadvertently. Another similarity between them is that both Perrito and Louie helped Puss and Scrooge respectively become more humble. As shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, Perrito’s friendship and aforementioned counseling with Puss helped Puss realize that despite his legendary status as a brave hero, he was actually a coward for not showing up for his and Kitty’s wedding since he was afraid of what committing to someone might mean for his status as a legend. And as shown in the episode ‘The Richest Duck In The World!’, when Louie got the Bombie to stop attacking by learning to be humble, it helped Scrooge be more humble too since he then lifted the Bombie’s curse off himself. The difference between them there is that Perrito helped teach Puss the lesson about humility whereas Louie and Scrooge both learned the lesson about humility together. Also, one more difference between them is that, as shown in the Puss In Boots The Last Wish movie, Perrito is perfectly content with his life just the way it is which is why he didn’t have a wish he wanted to make with the Wishing Star whereas, as shown in the episode ‘Storkules In Duckburg!’, Louie wasn’t completely content with his life which is why he wanted to become rich.
Well, that’s all for this post.
See you all next time.

JUST WOKE UP TO COWBOY REMUS AND I AM LIVING FOR IT
do you think the rancher would be a muggle? A squib? Or maybe a magical that just got sick of the wizarding world and went fuck it then went to live with his horses?
Ooo and imagine Harry immediately hitting it off with Luna in second year and them just vibing with Hagrid
HARRY’S FIRST CRUSH IS ON CHARLIE
I like the idea of him being a muggle. Just very much a Normal Country Boy who dreamed of so much more only to be presented with a magical werewolf and his even more magical and painfully main character godson and welcoming them in with open arms without hesitation.
He is also a bit more… creative when it comes to protecting Harry.
He has held multiple wizards at gun point and honestly he was not impressed.
