The weirdest thing about going to college for teaching in the united states is the giant CANYON of disconnect between what we're taught and what we actually do in a classroom.
like we're taught how to diversify methods of instruction in order to most equitably reach the diverse populations of our classrooms and inspire them to do their best writing/reading/speaking (im an English teaching major) but then in reality the students in your classroom are insanely below the level they need to be at in order to engage with age-appropriate lessons for them
we're taught how to take common core standards and transform them into meaningful and deep lessons but we're only given 45-90 mins of planning per day (if we're lucky) and the rest needs to be done outside of school or after hours if you can't do it quickly enough, and teachers are always expected to do research outside of the classroom, as well as collaboration, tweaking of lesson plans, etc.
we're told that students crave learning and they crave fun projects and they crave kinesthetic exercises, but then when I try those things in the classroom everyone complains and halfasses their participation, and im lucky if half of them actually pass something in, whether its an assignment, a test, a project, or an assessment.
we're told that we need to have open communication not only between teachers but between teachers and admin and parents, but then im lucky if one of the ten parents I email about their kid failing emails me back, and im luckier if admin takes a behaviorally disturbed student out of my class for insulting me or other students.
like... i guess my point is that teaching education is so idyllic and utopian, and actual classrooms are a goddamn nightmare of behavioral issues, lack of time/resources, exhausting interactions with students who don't want to be there or participate, and insane expectations from students, parents, and admin alike.
Like... no wonder the teaching field is hemorrhaging teachers right now. How can ANYONE work under the insane conditions we're forced to try and teach in. I'm so tired and I'm not even out of school yet. It's actually psychotic.

Staff transfers here have been amazing so far! Mainly cuz at my JHS an awesome JTE I worked with at another school came in. And at my ES it’s mostly folks from the smaller ES that closed and a few folks that I had worked with or met prior!
Just a shame this is happening a few months before I finish JET. Gonna enjoy it while I can.

Speaking club B1-B2+
See you💓

tl;dr I might get a job in Japan teaching kids English. OMG.
I have an actual job interview. OMG. Guys, gals, and enby pals, A JOB INTERVIEW. Granted it is not in my field of study but it would be a work abroad IN JAPAN job. Teaching English. Just like my cousin David before me. xD
But seriously, I am SHOOK. I also applied and got a response from a Korean company for teaching English online to South Korean students. They are interested in me and I replied back to their email but WOW.
Also, I would have to get a TEFL certificate to teach english as a foreign language. BUT. Guess what? I have experience editing and proofreading English books, essays, and articles written by non Native English speakers, so that is sorta similar lol.
AND I would be teaching kids! OMG.
This is like, amazing if it actually happens. If not I will just teach online after I get the certificate (which I'd have to charge the cost of to my currently $0 balance credit card bc it's pricey) but I am like, WHAT????? What is going on?
HOW DO I INTERVIEW OMG. It has been ages since I interviewed and it was easy back when I was younger.
I have to wear conservative attire and hide my tattoos for the Japanese interview+working there. Thankfully I do not need to know Japanese for this, but if I get this job and am able to go there? I WILL LEARN IT DAMN IT.
The pay in South Korea for English teachers is more than in Japan, and Korea seems to cover a lot of expenses compared to Japan, but if this is somehow doable? I'll do it!
Can you image? Me? In a foreign country that IS NOT CANADA. Holy shitballs y'all.
I would need a feminine wardrobe though, which sucks bc ick dysphoria but I am still AFAB and couldn't take my T and stuff so I'd have to stop it for A YEAR because it is a year contract.
BUT I would be going to motherfucking Japan. Like can you imagine? For an American that has only ever been to American states and Canada (Toronto and London) this is AMAZEBALLS.
If this happens idk what I will do. Probably die from omging myself. Hahahahahaha.
I doubt it'll come to fruition because I would have to figure out how my son would be taken care of while I was gone tbh, plus if he could come with me and my hubby too or if I would have to go alone idk.
So it is still in the air if it'll happen and I still need to get hired but holy crap a step closer to getting a job AND traveling? I am amazed.
*dies from shock*
Also, if y'all are interested in learning how to get a job teaching English online or in another country than your own (native speakers of English are preferred usually) and have a bachelor's degree (IN ANYTHING EVERYONE) and are able to pay about $2,000, message me and I will give you my resources. The $2,000 is in USD and is for the TEFL certificate you would need. It is less than $2,000 actually but yeah. OMG.

Hi! I’ll try to keep this simple and add a likely awful translation. I’m a native English speaker who wants to learn German. I speak some German partially, but I’m not as good as I would like to be. I have a very good grasp on English grammar and structure, and I love to teach. If there is a German person out there who wants to speak English, I would love to exchange help to each other!
Hallo!
Google Translate scheitert. Es tut mir so leid.)

I had so many fuckin ceremonies these past 2 months.
2 graduations, 2 closing ceremonies (my smaller ES and the JHS I used to work at), the usual end of the year closing ceremony, ALT contract ceremony, beginning of the school year ceremony, school integration ceremony for my smaller and larger ES’s, JHS entrance ceremony, and finally ES entrance ceremony.
I’m so tired of wearing a suit guys. It’s so exhausting.

I already have way too much to do and things keep getting to my to do list.
Thought I could do like last semester and use previous teachers multiple choice questions from novel but nope..... Unusable for this.
Also enraged from looking at old moodle page where the assignments are so much bullshit that I feel sorry for the students who took that course and passed with flying colours because they will get a shock if they go to a higher level course or to uni where they have to use English.

The 7 Golden Rules of Communication for Online Meetings
