Found this lovely green friend while visiting San Diego - any chance of an ID? I'm not sure they were doing so hot but I didn't want to bother them too much.
It's a figeater! Adult beetles don't live particularly long, so it may have already mated and is at the end of its natural life. And that's okay I'll bet it lived a nice beetle life :)

becoming a beetle nerd so I can write luffy being a beetle nerd
they're so cute.
especially weevils and their little nose thingie. why couldn't weevil what's-his-face in yu-gi-oh be as cute as real weevils :[
there's also so many shiny green beetles :0
imagine luffy comparing colors to beetle colors
like every time he finds a green beetle (bc there seems to be a lot of those lol), he holds it up to zoro's hair to check if it's the same shade of green 🥺
figeater beetle kinda matching with an anime zoro i yoinked from google
green shield bug matching manga zoro i yoinked from the fandom wiki (actually, i think this isn't a beetle wtf why did you give me this, google, i asked for green beetles)
tho the coloring do be inconsistent so multiple beetles could match
also sunburst diving beetles remind me of Torao with his black and yellow theme <3 also i just realized they're called diving because they go underwater lmao so they also match the Polar Tang!! :D

Cotinis mutabilis, also known as the figeater beetle (also green fruit beetle or fig beetle), is a member of the scarab beetle family.

These funny guys will fly around all summer here, buzzing loudly and bumping into everything like a drunk hummingbird.
Colored pencil vs oil pastel comparison on the bottom.

@zestyatbest submitted: Hello! The other day I was mucking around in some leaves and I found THIS massive guy!
I figured it probably wasn’t living its best life in a pile of leaves on the concrete so I took it home and got it into a nice big tank. It’s a good thing I did; the pile of leaves was gone two days later, all swept up.
What sort of grub is this?? I looked online and it says it’s probably a western Hercules beetle grub… if so then that’s amazing, I love beetles!! Please tell me if I should let this lil guy go though, I don’t want to keep something that really shouldn’t be in captivity, even if I’m looking after it carefully.
I’d love some ID so I can properly take care of them and know what to expect after they pupate. I’m in [removed] (please remove location). Any clues? Thank you so much!
Ohhh what a man (gender neutral)! Quick shout out to the millipede in the first photo, though. It’s a scarab beetle grub, for starters. Given your area and the fact that it’s scooting around on its backside, it’s very unlikely it’s a western Hercules beetle. It’s most likely a green June beetle in the genus Cotinis. The common green June beetle, Cotinis nitida, is more common in your area, but it’s also possible it’s a figeater, Cotinis mutabilis.

it’s figeater friday !
Figeaters are often confused with cotinis nitida, the june beetle! they do look similar i suppose, if you don’t obsessively study every bug you see
figeaters have a yellow/tan color around the edges of the elytra, making them easy to tell apart, in my opinion :]
bonus pic of my cat !

FIGEATER BEETLE.

Today is the figeater beetle.
As a larva, its legs are useless, so it rolls onto its back and gets around that way using the friction from the hairs on its back.
Evolution is so fucking weird.
