Muslim world's only mosque with Rainbow

I never imagine that there could be a mosque or masjid with a rainbow, especially in a conservative muslim-majority country. It can be a momentum for LGBTQIA+ muslims of Bangladeshi backgrounds to embrace the diversity of Allah. When I came know about this mosque, I was pretty shocked. It could be the only mosque in entire muslim world that has a vibrant rainbow minaret.

This mosque's name is Chawkbazar Shahi Jame Masjid, located in Chawkbazar, Puran-Dhaka. It was built by Emperor Shaista Khan. It is one of the oldest & largest mosques in Bangladesh. Guys, let me remind you of one thing: it is not a “LGBTQ+ friendly mosque." The mosque's rainbow minaret has also become a tourist attraction. It's ironic that the Bengali people living in this suburb have never had objections regarding the mosque's rainbow minaret. I think they are/were unaware of the symbolism of the rainbow, which stands for solidarity among queer and trans folks. BTW, there are some LGBTQI+ and hijra groups in the Puran-Dhaka suburb.

Homosexuality is a punishable offense in Bangladesh, under the British-inherited Penal Code Section 377. Hijras & kothis are visible queer individuals in South Asia. The South Asian term "hijra" refers to multiple genders, such as AMAB transgender individuals, transvestites, masculine women (intersex type), AMAB non-binary individuals, & intersex folks. The term doesn't include trans male. The term "kothi" specifically refers to transvestites, bottom gays, and effeminate males. Hijra community has existed since the early 10th century. In 2013, Bangladesh officially recognized hijras as a third gender. However, this subcultural gender minority still faces social stigma and discrimination.

He loves you for your problems, he loves you for who you are, and he loves others even if they're not Christian with the same amount of love he gives you.

We all have problems, some in different areas than others. Accept it.

Love like God loves and show the world who he really is. We're his representatives here on earth, but every human is his child.

Start acting like it.

I just wanted to give some encouragement to any LGBTQ+ Christians out there who are feeling lonely on their journey and like they don’t belong anywhere. It took some time and a lot of navigating my faith and my queer identity and the pain of leaving the church I grew up in, but I’ve found several churches (all progressive UMCs, but there are lots of other churches that affirm LGBTQ folks--and I know not all UMCs do) I can call home, and I’ve found lots of virtual spaces too where I can bring my full self and my gifts. I just led a song during worship today, and the music director and a bunch of church ladies complimented me afterwards. And they all know I’m a lesbian. And there are rainbow flags in the church and we do a bunch of cool service projects and drives for the community. The focus is on loving God and loving neighbor, and there’s no other place I would rather be. 

Even if you’re in an area where affirming churches are scarce and you don’t have the resources to start one, there are online communities (DM me and I can send a bunch of links) and there are so many LGBTQ+ Christians out there, using our gifts to serve the beloved community of God. You are loved and you are not alone, and I know that you will shine in whatever ways you participate in spirituality/religion.

For many, Father's Day is a day of celebration and I am so happy for them. But, for me, it is a day of survival. It marks another year passing, reminding me of everything I went through in my own childhood thanks to my father and the mental scars it left behind that say, "I am still here, I survived you." So, to all the good fathers in the world, thank you. You're doing a brilliant job, keep it up. I am glad you exist. To every child of a bad father, be proud that you survived and know that your life is worthwhile. And to God, the Father of me, you and everybody, who loves every one of us as we are, thank you most of all.

Reflection by Megan (@lucyandethel): If God gave you hunger he would feed it. I mean this in both a literal sense and a spiritual sense. Everything that God made from humans to plants and animals he will nourish with food and water. Plants and animals cannot ask God for things to eat and drink but he gives them to them anyways because he loves them. However, we humans get to choose if we will ask him or not. God gives each person hunger, he will feed it if you allow him to. If you take your hunger to the Lord then he will provide them.

How do I know if God gave me hunger?

Is there something that you have just always thought about? Even if it wasn't at the forefront of your mind you thought about it at least once a day? Perhaps you share the same hunger as me, to be a parent, to have romantic love. I have had the hunger to be a wife and mother for as long as I can remember. I am only 17 and I have never had a boyfriend, but I know that God will feed that hunger because he put the hunger inside of me. He has had my entire life planned out from when I was born to when I die since my grandmother was born. Everyone has different hungers. Not everyone wants to marry, not everyone wants to be a parent. Maybe you have always had a hunger to help people, or a hunger to spread the good news of Jesus. Whatever your hunger is know that God will feed it, no matter how impossible it seems to you, just remember what God and Jesus have done before. Jesus gave a blind man sight, God rose Jesus from the grave, everything that we read about in the Bible, that we hear about over social media, that can happen to you. But you have to trust in Jesus first.

I try and remember to pray for my future husband every morning and night but sometimes I forget because more recent problems are at the forefront of my mind. I try to remember to pray for my future self as well, pray that she will be a good mother and wife who is always obedient towards God and has good habits, and teaches others good practice's as well. I pray that I will be a Proverbs 31 woman.

I had trouble for the longest time in believing that God is real, but then one day I came to a revelation. I am around God constantly. Every person I see, God made them. Every dog I pet, God made them. Every time I look at the sky, God made that. Every time the sun rises or set's, God told it to do that. Every star in the sky, God made it and He has a name for each and every single star. God made the moon, God made every thing on this planet. Everything that you use on a daily basis from your phone to toilet paper God made the people who made that. I go on a walk and I am surrounded by the tree's God planted and the grass God grew, everything is created by God. Including me, and you, your whole family, all of your friends, your pets, everyone and everything.
