#gun safety is important

I have seen a lot of people wondering why Hunter and by extension Echo, Tech and Wrecker have allowed Omega to use a weapon that doesn’t have a stun setting. They are, in essence, making her kill lots of people, and treating it as though it has little consequence. I’m not sure how many times Omega has shot people throughout the show, but it has never been addressed (probably mostly because the primary audience are roughly 9-13 year-olds who aren’t quite prepared to face their own mortality yet)
To those of you who think this is a problem, let me remind you that Omega is small. She’s undoubtedly ready to scrap with the best of ‘em, but that doesn’t mean she can win. She was lifted clean off her feet by the corrie guard in s1e1, and Cad Bane had very little trouble moving her around when he could keep his grip on her. The fact of the matter is: Omega’s life is full of very dangerous people who can absolutely kill her if they want to. The Batch are arming their kid for a one-shot kill because it’s very likely one shot is all she’s getting in a situation where she’s fighting alone.
And this isn’t just a defense of an aesthetics-based decision by the Bad Batch team. This is an actual principle of self-defense. As somebody who has had training with a gun for self-defense, you are taught that if the person is coming at you, you aim for the center of mass. That means their chest.
Now, you’re also taught to never point a loaded weapon at someone you don’t intend to shoot, which is something Omega has done before. Clearly Hunter and Echo need to go over gun safety rules with her again.

sometimes I forget that not everyone has been raised around guns and therefore not everyone knows the basic gun safety rules??? just saw a post about a character trained in firearms holding a gun during a heated argument and accidentally shooting the person he was arguing with point-blank in the chest and I had to put my phone down and take a little break and redirect my indignation into something helpful so for fic writers who've never fired, held, or been around guns! here are some gun safety basics that any character who was taught how to use a gun would almost definitely know
in firearm safety classes the first thing they teach you (if they're any good) is to Keep Your Finger Off The Damn Trigger Unless You're Firing. when holding the gun, unholstering it, holstering it, loading it, picking it up, putting it down, whatever, you don't touch the trigger. I've never used anything larger than a .9mm but I usually put my pointer finger up slightly so it rests along the barrel when I'm not firing. this is so that you don't accidentally or instinctively fire the gun when you don't intend to. if your finger is not on the trigger, you can't fire the gun.
the second thing they'll tell you is twofold so I'll split it up. the gun is ALWAYS loaded. more specifically, that you should treat every gun as if there is a live round currently in the chamber. even if you just checked and you know it's not! the gun is always loaded. if you treat every gun like it's loaded, you won't do stupid shit with it. you don't pick it up until you're ready to use it.
the other part of that is you never point a gun at something you aren't prepared to destroy. not just kill, but destroy. because even if you're following the first two rules, sometimes shit happens. and if a bullet comes out of the barrel it's not like you can stop it. even setting guns down, you keep them pointed away from you and others. you hand guns to people pointing down, or forward if there's nothing in front of you. you don't wave a gun around willy-nilly. you definitely don't point it at people unless you are okay with said people having fatal holes in them.
this is definitely not an exhaustive list of gun safety rules; I've been to firearm safety classes and handled guns for a while, so while I do have some knowledge, I'm definitely not an expert. if people with more specific information want to share (especially on things like shotguns and rifles, which I know have more specific rules) please do!

You wanna know something terrible.
My school the other day had a lockdown and for a while I just thought it was a drill. Once I realized what was happening I wasn’t so much shocked as I was scared. I have been wonder when this was going to happen. It’s sad to think that now a days kids aren’t shocked that they might die because someone is shooting at them because it’s a normal thing now. Honestly half the people didn’t even care. The class next door was even laughing loudly. Lucky no one was hurt in anyway. So I’ll be grateful about that.

A major perk of Dumb Down Intelligence is that Molly can make the police officers Vincent and the boys defeat confess to their crimes, turn themselves in, and sell out a number of other corrupt officers. Even one successful target can lead to a police station having to choose between enduring an investigation or prosecuting each other like they are supposed to.
Many police stations in sweet jazz city are now understaffed, and most cops avoid attempting to confront Vincent Murder because of the legends of what happened to those who lost. This, in turn, shows that they have something to hide - support for police reforms and defunding have increased dramatically.

Rex: here we have gun safety and self defense lessons. *Pulls a gun on Jesse* what do you do if someone is pointing a gun at you?
Jesse slapping the gun away in the most limp-wristed fruit boned way possible: first, you firmly tell them "No"
Jesse, pointing an accusing finger at Rex: and then you say "Stop, I don't like that"
Jesse: then you calmly walk away

Oh, no, not fandom using the very real and ever-present threat of mass shootings in US schools to argue how Tedbecca can still win.

Ya know what? No, it’s not all gonna be okay. We can try to cheer ourselves up and boost morale all we want but thoughts and prayers don’t bring back the dead.
201 mass shootings. 127 days. These numbers are fucking repulsive. That averages out to one mass shooting every 15 hours. A mass shooting is defined as a shooting that injures at least 4 people with the bullets, excluding the perpetrator(s), in one location.
This is fucking disgusting. The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, proposed firmer gun control after 2 mass shootings. The United States has passed anti trans laws into effect and, in good old motherfucking Tennessee, expelled two of the three senators who stood with the 10,000 school kids demanding gun control, instead of actually doing anything about the shootings.
Why? Because this is the US, and our government cares more about the 2nd amendment than innocent civilian lives. Innocent CHILDRENS’ lives. Fuck the government. Fuck this dystopian nightmare where pistols get more protection than preschoolers.
Try to keep yourselves safe. And if you know you’re going down in a shooting, go down swinging.

🗣️THIS IS WHAT INCLUSIVE, COMPASSIONATE DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Minnesota Dems enacted a raft of laws to make the state a trans refuge, and ensure people receiving trans care here can't be reached by far-right governments in places like Florida and Texas. (link)
Minnesota Dems ensured that everyone, including undocumented immigrants, can get drivers' licenses. (link)
They made public college free for the majority of Minnesota families. (link)
Minnesota Dems dropped a billion dollars into a bevy of affordable housing programs, including by creating a new state housing voucher program. (link)
Minnesota Dems massively increased funding for the state's perpetually-underfunded public defenders, which lets more public defenders be hired and existing public defenders get a salary increase. (link)
Dems raised Minnesota education spending by 10%, or about 2.3 billion. (link)
Minnesota Dems created an energy standard for 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040. (link)
Minnesota already has some of the strongest election infrastructure (and highest voter participation) in the country, but the legislature just made it stronger, with automatic registration, preregistration for minors, and easier access to absentee ballots. (link)
Minnesota Dems expanded the publicly subsidized health insurance program to undocumented immigrants. This one's interesting because it's the sort of things Dems often balk at. The governor opposed it! The legislature rolled over him and passed it anyway. (link)
Minnesota Dems expanded background checks and enacted red-flag laws, passing gun safety measures that the GOP has thwarted for years. (link)
Minnesota Dems gave the state AG the power to block the huge healthcare mergers that have slowly gobbled up the state's medical system. (link)
Minnesota Dems restored voting rights to convicted felons as soon as they leave prison. (link)
Minnesota Dems made prison phone calls free. (link)
Minnesota Dems passed new wage protection rules for the construction industry, against industry resistance. (link)
Minnesota Dems created a new sales tax to fund bus and train lines, an enormous victory for the sustainability and quality of public transit. Transit be more pleasant to ride, more frequent, and have better shelters, along more lines. (link)
They passed strict new regulations on PFAS ("forever chemicals"). (link)
Minnesota Dems passed the largest bonding bill in state history! Funding improvements to parks, colleges, water infrastructure, bridges, etc. etc. etc. (link)
They're going to build a passenger train from the Twin Cities to Duluth. (link)
I can't even find a news story about it but there's tens of millions in funding for new BRT lines, too. (link)
A wonky-but-important change: Minnesota Dems indexed the state gas tax to inflation, effectively increasing the gas tax. (link)
They actually indexed a bunch of stuff to inflation, including the state's education funding formula, which helps ensure that school spending doesn't decline over time. (link)
Minnesota Dems made hourly school workers (e.g., bus drivers and paraprofessionals) eligible for unemployment during summer break, when they're not working or getting paid. (link)
Minnesota Dems passed a bunch of labor protections for teachers, including requiring school districts to negotiate class sizes as part of union contracts. (Yet another @SydneyJordanMN special here. (link)
Minnesota Dems created a state board to govern labor standards at nursing homes. (link)
Minnesota Dems created a Prescription Drug Affordability Board, which would set price caps for high-cost pharmaceuticals. (link)
Minnesota Dems created new worker protections for Amazon warehouse workers and refinery workers. (link)
Minnesota Dems passed a digital fair repair law, which requires electronics manufacturers to make tools and parts available so that consumers can repair their electronics rather than purchase new items. (link)
Minnesota Dems made Juneteenth a state holiday. (link)
Minnesota Dems banned conversion therapy. (link)
They spent nearly a billion dollars on a variety of environmental programs, from heat pumps to reforestation. (link)
Minnesota Dems expanded protections for pregnant and nursing workers - already in place for larger employers - to almost everyone in the state. (link)
Minnesota Dems created a new child tax credit that will cut child poverty by about a quarter. (link)
Minnesota Democrats dropped a quick $50 million into homelessness prevention programs. (link)
And because the small stuff didn't get lost in the big stuff, they passed a law to prevent catalytic converter thefts. (link)
Minnesota Dems increased child care assistance. (link)
Minnesota Dems banned "captive audience meetings," where employers force employees to watch anti-union presentations. (link)
No news story yet, but Minnesota Dems forced signal priority changes to Twin Cities transit. Right now the trains have to wait at intersections for cars, which, I can say from experience, is terrible. Soon that will change.
Minnesota Dems provided the largest increase to nursing home funding in state history. (link)
They also bumped up salaries for home health workers, to help address the shortage of in-home nurses. (link)
Minnesota Dems legalized drug paraphernalia, which allows social service providers to conduct needle exchanges and address substance abuse with reduced fear of incurring legal action. (link)
Minnesota Dems banned white supremacists and extremists from police forces, capped probation at 5 years for most crimes, improved clemency, and mostly banned no-knock warrants. (link)
Minnesota Dems also laid the groundwork for a public health insurance option. (link)
I’m happy for the people of Minnesota, but as a Floridian living under Ron DeSantis & hateful Republicans, I’m also very envious tbh. We know that democracy can work, and this is a shining example of what government could be like in the hands of legislators who actually care about helping people in need, and not pursuing the GOP’s “culture wars” and suppressing the votes of BIPOC, and inflicting maximum harm on those who aren’t cis/het, white, wealthy, Christian males. BRAVO MINNESOTA. This is how you do it! And the Minnesota Dems did it with a one seat majority, so no excuses. Forget about the next election and focus on doing as much good as you can, while you still can. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

❝ CAN YOU STOP PUTTING EVERYTHING ON THE TOP SHELVES?! ❞ you finally talk to him after a little argument ( height difference )
with deku, bakugou, rody
IZUKU
he tried to look nonchalant as he responded with a questioning hum. yeah, he was putting stuff on the top shelves. "hmm, what?"
you crossed your arms and glared at him. "you heard me."
he turned to you with the picture of innocence plastered on his face. "i don't know what you mean, i just put things where i put them. it just happens that they're high up."
you raised an accusatory eyebrow.
"for you, anyway." he mumbled, turning back to make his sandwich.
"exactly!" you exclaimed. "for me! you know i can't reach things up there and you do it on purpose!" you found your face was hot as you explained it.
you knew exactly why—you both had gotten into a little fight and you weren't talking to him for a while. this was the first time you had spoken since the argument, and even though you were yelling at him, your voice was music to his ears.
a small smile spread on his face despite his efforts to feign innocence. "on purpose?"
"yes!"
he paused, walking towards you. his disregard for space led to you being crammed against the counter behind you. he leaned over you and asked, "what it is that you need, love?"
your cheeks heated and you cast your gaze to the floor. "the box up there..." you murmured. he stretched to reach it and you flattened your palms against his chest. "izuku! you're squishing me—!"
he chuckled and brought the box down to the counter before kissing your forehead. "i'm glad we're talking again."
BAKUGO
"what was that?" he asked you, a knowing smirk on his face.
you huffed, already on top the counter trying (and failing) to reach the stupid box you needed. "i said stop putting shit on the top shelves. you know i can't reach it."
he shrugged, turning his attention back to his phone. "i dunno what you're talkin' about, princess."
you glared and pointed to the box. "you don't even use it?!"
"aw, don't jump the gun on me now, babe. you know i like to switch things up a lil' bit." he grinned, taking so much joy in your visible frustration. he was just happy you were speaking with him again.
you rolled your eyes, electing to ignore him as you tried your best not to fall off the surface or pull the cabinet down with you.
bakugo eyed you carefully as he threw away the thought of you begging for his help, reluctantly decided your immediate safety was more important. "'kay, that's enough." he walked over, his hands on your hips steadying your wobbly movement. "you'll hurt yourself, y/n. come down."
"i want that stupid box..." you pouted.
he rolled his eyes, his arms now circling around you as he lifted you off the counter. you gasped and curled your legs towards your body, clutching his wrists.
"oh, relax, you know i won't drop ya." he grumbled and set you down next to him. he easily plucked the box from its high perch, handing it to you.
"happy now?" he pinched your cheek. "stubborn brat. could've broken a bone or somethin'."
RODY
"what, having trouble sweetheart?" he snickered.
your face heated and you huffed. "rody... just get it for me, please."
"hmmm..." he pretended he was thinking hard. "i think... no."
you looked at him incredulously. "no? you put it up there!"
"i so did not." he turned up his nose, though pino was smiling and nodding her head.
you narrowed your eyes at him. "you're sabotaging me into breaking your silent treatment."
"whaaaat?" he exaggerated confusion. he held his head and pointed at himself dumbly. "me?"
"you're impossible." you rolled your eyes, moving to climb onto the counter.
"in any case, my plan worked wonderfully," his signature smirk graced his lips as he laughed softly, leaning against the wall to survey your distress.
your fingers just about brushed the side of the box before pino crashed into it, sending it further back and completely out of your reach. you swiveled to glare at the little pink bird. "pino!"
she bashfully twirled in the air before happily fluttering away.
rody's laughter filled your ears and you groaned, resting your head against the shelf. you heard shuffling—when you looked up, rody and his stupid smug smirk was beside you, easily bringing the box down.
"now we both look stupid, yeah?" he pressed a fat kiss on your cheek and softened when you laughed brightly.
