Dc x dp idea 21
Danny reveals phantom to his parents. They seemingly take it well. Life continues as normal. They don’t hunt phantom but still going after other ghost.
Slowly things start to change. His parents ask him to do things for them. Like let them take his blood or do some seemingly harmless test. All under the claim that it’s for Danny’s best interest. To make speciality medicine and what not.
The Fenton parents get more and more deadly with other ghosts. Weapons are more effective their containing cells fully work. Danny is just happy there not hunting him and ghost are out less.
It’s only when they hurt a ghost to the point it goes into his core it’s a problem.
Danny can’t just chuck the core into the ghost zone and call it good. Some ghost could absorb it to make themselves stronger or something.
So Danny ditches his screaming parents takes the core and goes. He leaves unaware of his parents plans for him and the core.
The minute he leaves amity Constantine and any magic users can feel the presence of the infinite realm. 2 of them 1 extremely injured.
Danny ends up in Gotham cause there is ectoplasm there. That way the core can heal quicker.
There is a hunt for Danny and he doesn’t realize it. Both his parents and the JLD. One to help the other to hurt.

More Mood Board Madness
The three bingos I co-mod, @marvelrarepairbingo, @scottsummersbingo, and @scoganbingo, are running the Mood Board Madness game again, this time all with the lists of prompts to choose from. I still want to do more for all three, and still need to do at least one for Scogan, but here are the ones for the Scott Summers Bingo and the Marvel Rare Pair Bingo.
==========================================
Tumblr media
No real write-up for this one. Just pretty images of pretty boys and cute kids. Scott Summers and Tony Stark taking their little family away on a beach vacation. For the Mood Board Madness prompt: Baby/Kids (Parent).

I got a little carried away on the concept write-up, so I had to save it as an image in order to post it to the MRP Discord, so here it is. Definitely will become a fic on this one at some point. Because I don't have enough WIPs, yanno? For the Mood Board Madness prompts: Horror Movie and Hallmark Romance. (I know what I said.)
Text of the story concept image under the read more.
Concept: James Barnes, drafted into the Army at 25 to fight in a war he had no desire to contribute to, found himself going from private to sergeant not long after setting foot in Viet Nam. He was set to lead a 'special battalion', given so-called special tasks in the darker, unmapped jungles. Like his men, he never understood what made them so special - nobody grunts who hadn't finished (or even gone) to college, made it through high school by the skin of their teeth, and none claiming any sweethearts back home. James only had his mom, sister Becky, and his best friend Steve, who'd wanted so badly to enlist, but due to health issues and him being a straight A student in college, he didn't have to worry about serving at all.
They'd been given all their usual inoculations and some the Army said hadn't even been introduced to the populace as they were specific to protect them from the unknown diseases lying in wait where they were being sent to. The battalion, self-named the Howling Commandos, saw some of the nastiest battles of the war, many of them coming at them in the dead of night. The men were ferocious in battle, never losing, even tearing the enemy limb from limb. They awoke amid bodies that looked as if wild animals had torn into them with their teeth. The longer they were in those jungles, the more vicious they became until one morning, James woke up with only two other survivors from his battalion, and they couldn't remember what happened. After they were sent home, only flashbacks awaited them. After a year of those flashbacks, James was left the sole survivor as Dum Dum and Jim Morita couldn't live with the memories of what they'd done. Of who they ate. James hated those memories, but he dug his heels in, learned to live with what the Army had turned him into with their "inoculations," and decided he didn't mind the taste of human flesh.
It made dating difficult, however, over the years. Not many women or men would've been too happy to learn they were falling in love with a cannibal. Even if James stuck to eating the worst of the worst of society, dining on humans didn't exactly make him boyfriend material. He was grateful when the internet was invented, especially the chat rooms - especially especially the type to draw the darker souls in, the ones he could share his deepest, darkest secret, the one he'd never even been able to stell Stevie about.
It took a year, year and a half, but he met him. The stranger who only called himself Loki, like the Norse Trickster god. He'd spoken up only after James had tossed out a question that most others had taken as a joke - "What do I do with all the blood?" To James' surprise, Loki had the perfect solution to his actual problem.
Loki was a vampire.
It wasn't long before they were speaking in private chat rooms, just the two of them. Sharing jokes, Loki trading recipes for the cannibal's kitchen in exchange for new places to hunt. Okay, so maybe at first, James thought Loki was full of shit - one of those Anne Rice wannabe vampire nutjobs who dressed in goth clothes all the time, pretending to drink blood out of wine glasses, but he never wanted to call the guy out on it in case Loki slapped back by calling him Hannibal in a less than affectionate way.
And then they met face to face. James suggested it first, and after some gentle coaxing (maybe a little begging - what? James was desperate for anyone who could understand him, and for all he adored his best friend, Steve had enough going on in his life with his art showings and taking care of his sick Ma to have to deal with his fucked up monster of a friend), Loki agreed. They met at an all-night diner tucked away in an old Brooklyn neighborhood. When James saw Loki sitting in the booth near the window, he had to smile - he definitely looked like the vampire sort - long dark hair and striking light green eyes, skin the color of the palest coffee milk, an imported Turkish cigarette dangling from his lips. Well, he either looked like a vampire or a musician, though James was pretty sure they weren't mutually exclusive. He sat down, ordered coffee and a steak - bloody rare - and took note that Loki was only drinking coffee with a glass of water next to it. They hit it off right away, and if nothing else, James thought it'd be nice to have a weird and dark-minded new friend to hang out with, though damn the guy was hot, and he'd love to fall in love. He'd love to have someone to fall in love with who'd at least understand that maybe he just had a dark sense of humor about eating people. James glanced out the window at the people walking by on the street, and noticed -
Loki didn't have a reflection.
It's 2024. James and Loki have been together all this time. After going out for two years, they finally moved in together. James went to school to become a chef, and Loki could easily bankroll a posh apartment in Manhattan, though they sprung for an old brownstone that gave them all the room they required for their dietary needs. James never had to worry about what to do with all that blood anymore, and in fact, he might've come up with one or two creative ways to feed it to his boyfriend.

It’s all fun and games in the Eldritch Bingo au until you remember that Gertrude is going to have mmmm three assistants around the time she goes missing.
Which mostly just means Michael deffo found the blood, cops are going to be crawling all over when Eric and April turn up, and basically their input is going to be “well, shit”
Because like. They have a laundry list of things that wanted her dead, but its a pretty short one on “human beings”.
Which just means that when Jane Prentiss happens and the archives get flooded with worms and Martin finds her corpse in the tunnels.... Jon is going to be faced with a trio of deeply unmoved people.
Because Michael is going to be emotional, because even if he felt she was fucking up a lot of things by the end-- he doesn’t want her dead. He doesn’t want anyone dead. April will be hardline pushing down the part of themselves cackling in vindication. Because it’d look bad if they got hyped out. And while they’re fine with the outcome, they’re not.... like they didn’t want her dead. Dead you can’t learn anything. A dead archivist means everything gets a bit wobbly and bad things happen to the archive when that happens. But also she did cause them to be spiritually and physically half of a monster that tormented them for years. So they’re not too broken up about it. Eric likewise didn’t want her dead. He just always wanted to leave. And while that tended to = pissing matches with Gertrude, it wasn’t her fault he sold his soul to the Big Eye.
But she was shot.
Which would get the trio interested more than Jon would probably like. Because even if April flat told him “listen, if she died i expected it to be by monster” he wouldn’t believe them. Season 2 Jon is going to spend a whole lot of time being 100% sure that the old guard murdered her for ???? he doesn’t know yet.
which i expect only to lighten re: suspicion when April scoops Sasha out of the table and they all flee from the Not!Sasha. Even then it’ll probably be... some time before chill happens.
meanwhile not pictured is April being existentially distressed about the ruining of so many statements by Prentiss because by that point they’re hard tied to the archives and the info inside it. Somewhere, elias is v pleased

mid-year book freakout tag
hello!! this tag is mostly prevalent on booktube and not in the deep recesses of the internet that is tumblr, but i feel most comfortable talking about books on this app for some reason, so i just thought that this would be very fun.
let’s begin!!
1. best book you’ve read so far in 2022
- echo by thomas olde heuvelt
2. best sequel you’ve read so far in 2022
i’ve been reading quite a few series this year so it made this question a little hard to answer when i first saw it, so much so that i literally compiled a list of all the sequels i read and tried to rank them in order of best to…least best. (it fell apart very quickly). this one is for sure in the top three!!
- castor (sons of the fallen, #2) by jaclyn osborn
one ☝🏽 word: dragons
3. favorite reread
- when my heart joins the thousand by a.j. steiger
4. genre(s) you’ve been loving/reading the most
- paranormal & fantasy
the thing about it, too, is that since i first read the monstrous series by lily mayne, and then especially after catching up to the sons of the fallen by jaclyn osborn, i’ve just found myself so immersed in worlds of fantasy and mythical creatures alike; it’s been very difficult to take myself out of that headspace and go back to real world settings, and that’s something that riding into 2022, i didn’t expect. i’ve always loved fantasy, and i have considered it like an escape for a long time, but now that wish for escapism has just increased tenfold.
5. new release you haven’t read yet, but want to
- a lady for a duke by alexis hall
this book came out in may but by the gods, it is a 2022 release and i will read it soon.
6. most anticipated release for the second half of the year
- raiden (sons of the fallen, #6) by jaclyn osborn
as i’m writing this, there officially is just three more days until i see the nephilim brothers again, im so hyped.
7. biggest disappointment
if i know a book is not doing it for me, i don’t really have any hard feelings because most of the time, i knew what i was getting into so i wouldn’t be surprised if i wasn’t vibing with the story. however, there’s this recent read i tried to pick up, feeling oddly excited about it just because i was in that kind of mood to take a risk and i….had so much trouble with the writing, it pained me so much.
a: the dead romantics by ashley poston
to this day, i don’t know what i expected from it because on the surface, i already knew i might not love the book and yet i read the first chapter and it was like getting my heart broken. and for what?? i have no idea, but for some reason, there was something about this book that made me want to like it and yet i couldn’t even finish it. it apparently made people cry reading and i’m one of them; but it was all out of bitter disappointment so alas….
8. biggest surprise
- soul eater (monstrous, #1) by lily mayne
i wasn’t in a reading slump, per se, but from february to april, i had been consistently reading up to seven books. not out of choice, but out of pure coincidence as these seemed to be the highest count of books i could read in a single month during this time. i don’t know why that was, but it just is.
this book, though, just as i had already reached the seven book count in may, made me completely grow obsessed with this series. the fact that it had five published books already and was still ongoing completely disrupted what became this expected reading goal and i love that.
also it’s about monster fucking. there’s really good plot and a sweet as hell romance for each book (moth & charlie, my loves) but again….monster fucking. a series where human survivors in a dystopian setting fall in love and have sex with monsters who entered their world through a tear in time & space was what pulled me out of my semi-reading slump….that was not on my bingo card for this year.
9. favorite new author
- lily mayne
i have to give her a lot of kudos for everything she’s done (see: above) plus!! her writing!! it really is pretty brilliant, she deserves the semi-popularity i’ve noticed from her books’ ratings on goodreads.
10. fictional crush
- junichi takayama from the lore & lust series by karla nikole
i am obsessed with him. if there’s one thing to convince you to read his & jae’s book (“the awakening”), it’s him. it’s this dominican-japanese angel who has a killer sense of style and an attitude to match. the fact that his book doesn’t nearly get enough hype….very disappointed.
10. newest favorite character
- mina rahman from a show for two by tashie bhuiyan
at first, i didn’t think i felt much about her character and then i saw her get guilt-tripped over things that weren’t even her fault and i realized at the point that i would destroy the world for her happiness, i mean—
listed: main characters who deserved better (and she does get that but all that conflict….yikes)
11. book that made you cry
- fragile remedy by maria ingrande mora
(see here).
12. book that made you happy
- café con lychee by emery lee
happy tears, y’all. this book literally had me sob in happy tears near the end, what in fresh hell is that about?
13. most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year
- the midnight girls by alicia jasinska (x)
14. what book do you need to read by the end of the year?
- flip the script by lyla lee
this author’s social media presence is completely out of this world, like she’s engaged as hell when it comes to connecting to her readers and she succeeds at it. her promotion of this book, specifically, made me feel very excited for what this story has in store and then a booktuber’s (@/perpetualpages) review of the book (x) has me even more hyped. i have a copy of my own that i can read at any time so i do hope to pick this up very soon.
15. favorite book community member
- @/ perpetualpages

But then he finds a broken and bloody man, half dead and abandoned before the biggest cluster storm of the year, and he has no choice but to take him home and tend his wounds.
Who was this mystery man shrouded in secrets, and why was Steve so drawn to him and his story?
When two strangers come together in a world full of uncertainty and change, both seeking comfort, both seeking meaning, would it all end in disaster or could they just maybe be each other's salvation?

Prickly Urchin
Written for @witcher-rarepair-summer-bingo
Prompt: Cursed Relationships: Emhyr var Emreis/Sigismund Dijkstra Rating: T (Swearing Language) Content Warnings: None Summary: Few people still alive can say they've met the emperor before his ascension to the Nilfgaardian throne. A young Count Sigismund Dijkstra is one of them. It's just that neither of them knew.
Read on AO3
* * *
“Ah, my friends. Let me introduce you to Count Sigismund.”
Three old gentlemen turn from their muted conversation to look at him—look up at him. Rare to find a man taller than himself, and today is not that day. Dijkstra keeps his smile pleasant as the eldest of the bunch gives him a firm handshake with a not-so-kind side-eye to his build.
This is the first of his ‘courtly’ parties.
In Dijkstra’s mind, the party is merely reconnaissance. In such small and comfortable confines, he can overhear the concerns of the noble elite as they are being spoken aloud, and not from a spy’s penned cipher. He can make note of their political conflicts with each other, their plans for retirement, and if any of it involves the Redanian crown.
He is an agent first. Count is just what the king has chosen him honorable of, and one more weapon to add to his slowly-expanding network.
Of course, attending personally means actually having to mingle and talk with the peacocking arseholes, which is a fucking pain in the bollocks.
He hates the attention his height affords him in times like these. Being noticed means more people bother him with questions and curiosities. But, it also brings whispers to him, names to remember and investigate later.
Adapting is part of a spy's job.
“I’m a humble servant of the king,” he tells the few who look to be snooping too closely at his unfamiliar presence.
“I am a lettered man of Oxenfurt,” he tells the ones who are searching for a status to preen about.
The rest simply get his name, and the evening fest continues.
He doesn’t care about what the evening is about. The important people, the connections, the information—that’s all that matters. Not the distasteful night’s attraction.
"You must stay for midnight, Sigismund. I've a delightful surprise planned for rare auction."
"Is that so?"
The rich love their parties, he knows, and oh how they love a little risqué presentation to end the night.
He is aware of what attending such a fete would also do to his reputation, but that is why, just as they bring out the girls who look too young to be drinking the chilled wine, he slips away into darkened hallways. No one will remember his face among the partying crowd. After a few rounds of drinks, no one will remember the face of the person that sat next to them all night. And he is counting on that.
Most of the guests have been asked to stay confined to the great hall, with servants moving in and out of special doors that connect to the residence’s kitchens. Dijkstra had been tracking the timing of the servant rotations, waiting for the right opportunity to slip through so his evening could start.
The manor is enormous, full of halls and a dozen small rooms, each with their own designated purpose. A book reading room. A letter reading room. A room that appears to be a library, with all of its books covered in dust as if no one’s moved them in a decade. Certainly the lord of the house has too much time in his fucking hands to have a room dedicated to books he won’t read.
Still, Dijkstra makes note of everything in his mental map. Such a place would rarely get visitors, none but a snoop like him on a night like this.
How strange though. A useless, dusty room for a dozen and more servants to ignore. The rest of the house looks so spotless. Smells like secrets get whispered inside these walls.
As he runs fingers through the spine of a book he recognizes from his old Oxenfurt days, he notices the uniform arc of furniture scraping the floor from repeated movement.
He never could resist a secret.
* * *
Of course he also hates musty cellar air worse than dust.
The side of the library’s shortest bookcase gave way to a slim doorway, one he had to squeeze through with effort. “Of–fuckin’–course there’s a bloody fuckin’ cellar under the fuckin’ richman’s house,” he says, mostly under his breath in case there’s someone at the other end of the sconce-lit hall. “It’s practically required decor. Need to make bloody note of that when I hire a mason for my own godsdamned manor...”
He slows at the small cells that emerge between shadows. There is a bear chained against the floor in one of them.
No—not a bear. Dijkstra squints in the lowlight. It’s long-limbed and man-shaped, with a net of spikes, or quills, sprouting out of its head and back.
Well, well. What a curious prize to have stashed away, is his intrigued train of thought.
The lock clicks when he inspects it, but the thing snaps its teeth at his fingers—suddenly close enough to grab him through the bars—and he is forced to push back to avoid losing a healthy digit. He can’t help the angry, “fuck off,” that comes out of reflex.
After its failed lunge, the creature assumes a defensive crouch. Although the chains keep it from scurrying to a dark corner, it still manages to create a significant distance where Dijkstra cannot touch it or its chain.
Strangely sharp eyes never move off of him, even from behind the shield of a wooly arm.
Dijkstra sniffs, and immediately grimaces at the damp, underground smell attacking his senses. “You’re a cursed thing, aren’t you. Smart. Maybe human once. Well,” he scowls harder at the grime and the pitiful secret inside a richman’s cellar, “you’re lucky I've no interest in mangy pets. I’ve also no taste for pointless cruelty and by the look of things upstairs, that's what's going to happen. So if you’re smart enough to understand a single fucking word I’m saying, get your spiney arse over here so I can pick the bloody lock of that chain.”
The creature stares at him for a gobsmacked, godsdamned minute. A minute that he feels inch by with building sweat, dreading an eavesdropper or worse, the lord coming down to poke and prod at its prize before his little midnight 'auction.'
Slowly, the creature slinks closer, the chain rattling as quietly as chains allow.
Dijkstra blinks to himself. So it is smart.
“I was never here,” he starts, turning the picks almost blindly, “I got lost on the way to the fucking loo, did three circles around the central room. I didn’t see or hear anything about a prickly arse man kept in a basement. I’m not a party person, and I hate competition.”
He mutters his alibi uselessly to the mute creature, with no sarcastic input or snappy retort. It's surprisingly trusting and patient, for an overgrown urchin that has no reason to trust a man he’s never met, especially given the circumstance.
“Phil is going to laugh at me,” Dijkstra continues under his breath anyway, “I came for intrigue and left because the most interesting thing in this house will probably get me killed to have discovered.”
“Thank you.”
Dijkstra raises his hands in mock surprise. “So it speaks.”
As if to be contrary, the urchin man keeps his silence again. Now absurdly sardonic of him. He should be kissing Dijkstra’s foot.
“If that's all, scram.”
The urchin man stands to its full height, which is considerably tall among most men, though not even close to Dijkstra’s imposing build. Not that it seems to be intimidated.
“I won't forget this,” it says, voice heavy with gravitas.
Dijkstra snorts. “You should.”
* * *
Years down the line, Karma finally catches up to the great Redanian Spymaster.
It was only a matter of time. It caught up to Radovid first. Now the Black Sun flies over the Redanian capital.
As a self-serving man, Dijkstra worked for and against both sides of the war. He held no regrets, certainly not for any kings whose heads might have rolled and paved way for better allies and stronger ties to him. He is aware of how an emperor might find that threatening. He’s not like Vernon fucking Roche, who is the most loyal, most frustratingly oath-keeping man he's met.
An enemy to the empire’s will, Dijkstra is brought before the emperor himself. In chains, of course. Can’t have an audience without fucking theatrics. He would do the same.
As he is herded through Foltest’s halls—bastard rest in peace—he is brought to a small staircase, one he takes slowly for his bone-aching leg.
“His Imperial Majesty Emhyr var Emreis, Deithwen Addan yn Carn aep Morvudd, Lord of Metinna...”
Dijkstra zones out half through the list. He is the tallest man in the room and still his eyes fix themselves on the ground, weary from being herded around half the damn Continent only to be sentenced to death the proper bureaucratic way. At the marked end of the final title, he bothers to look up and sees an ordinary man emblazoned in black robes, red brocade, and gold chains.
And strangely sharp eyes.
He’s hit with a feeling like he’s seen them before, even though it should be impossible. A faded memory nearly rewritten itself into uneventful obscurity crawls out of the abyss.
The emperor stands. An unusual occurrence, going by the startled attention of the guards.
He looks at the spymaster but doesn’t say anything besides a short, apparently cut off, “you.”
Dijkstra has got to give it to him. The bastard gathers himself to gesture naturally really well. He might have even fallen for it, if he hadn’t already caught the wide look in those familiar eyes.
“You are the infamous Sigismund Dijkstra. Or is it Sigi Reuven now?”
“I like the sound of Reuven better.”
The dead silence tells him he broke protocol by not finishing with the obligatory, ‘your imperial majesty.’ More bureaucratic bullcrap that will get him hanged faster.
But the emperor simply blinks. And rounds the table to stand before him.
Dijkstra carefully keeps still, his back straight as it can be with how his busted knee bothers him. Then the emperor says something in Nilfgaardian, and the guards holding his arms behind his back retreat to the doors. Finally, he can put weight off of his cursed leg.
The room wordlessly clears at the emperor's raised hand.
It’s only in the forced privacy that he is spoken to again, with a very cryptic, “I never forget the favors I owe.”
The memory barrels through his tired brain like a horse-drawn carriage without a rider.
“You don’t owe me shite,” he says with a sniff. That urchin—that fucking urchin man he spared one ounce of pity that night. Became emperor of the godsdamned world.
From rags to riches, he thinks almost hysterically.
Emhyr lifts an eyebrow. “Are you sure you do not want an emperor’s favor?”
Well. When he puts it like that.
"Considering what these fun little trinkets promise," Dijkstra emphasizes with the rattling of chains, "I'm not so sure what I can do with that favor."
Now they're in familiar ground. Deals and offers and counteroffers—and the urchin emperor speaks the language like a fluent native.
Dijkstra keeps his eyes level with Emhyr's as the man circles him round calmly. He doesn't turn his head to follow where he steps. He doesn't need to. It's his ears that must stay alert and attentive to the words chosen for delivery.
“You danced around my agents and my own spymaster like they were children fumbling in the dark." Emhyr pauses to round him again but in the opposite direction. His profile is the very portrait of his imperial likeness painted and sold across the Continent. The artist of those really captured his stare. Respectful and arrogant at the same time. "You made a powerful enemy, Mister Reuven, and you've made yourself quite the competitor in the Redanian scene. But perhaps we can talk and see where our disagreements lie.”
“Disagreements? Light way to put it.” He scoffs, but there is no denying how bloody curious he is to test how far a favor from the emperor will reach. “Sure, I'll be amenable to a talk.”
* * *
When he tells Roche, the fucking vassal lord of Temeria just standing around the corner of the throne room, he laughs at the answering disgruntled, constipated face.
“You saved the emperor when he was a cursed urchin, and now you’re the collared prick at his beck and call?”
“Says the whoreson who gave him Temeria wrapped in a pretty bow.” Dijkstra sighs. Roche sighs too, but his is more soulful. “Ah, fuck it. We both gave him the rest of the world on a silver platter.”
“You don’t sound that angry about that.”
There is a creeping truth to those words. A spy adapts, and he is adapting to the current lay of the land and its rules.
Dijkstra taps his newly acquired cane on the polished floor, remembering a shady party and the cellar with an urchin man with too-sharp eyes. What would have happened, had he not freed the beast? Would the world be under a different iron fist, a crueler fist? Would it have all burned down already, with neither him nor Roche alive to bicker about it? Would it have been peaceful, with no room for spywork like his?
“Maybe I wanna see this through.”
He always did love the challenge of an abstruse, unreadable mind to win over. Kings were one thing, but an emperor?
His thoughts must be written plain as day on his face, as Roche looks at him like he's struggling between throttling him, or diving neck first into a clear bottle of Nilfgaardian Lemon.

PREMISE
widower hai chao and his 6 year old daughter jian jian live happily above his noodle restaurant despite the recent, tragic death of his wife. one day, dysfunction junction a married couple (he ping, a police officer, and chen ting, a real piece of work) move into the same building with their 7 year old son, ling xiao. immediately, jian jian attaches herself to ling xiao, who is unexpectedly grim for a small child.
because ling xiao’s family is less-than-healthily grieving the loss of their youngest child, ling xiao’s sister who died in a terrible accident. The Apartment of Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms eventually implodes, ending with chen ting abandoning her husband and son. he ping, suddenly a single father, and hai chao come to a friendly partnership that is clearly alluding to gay marriage where they co-raise both of their kids--hai chao as the primary caregiver, and he ping supporting them financially through his job as a policeman.
meanwhile, the neighborhood busybody is dead-set on getting hia chao remarried. eventually she introduces him to a divorced single mother, he mei, and her son zi qiu, who is ling xiao’s age. they sort of start to date, but it culminates in he mei skipping town and leaving zi qiu behind. hai chao, man with a heart of gold, informally adopts him and zi qiu becomes jianjian’s foster brother.
from there, the trio grow up happily and become inseparable. but once zi qiu and ling xiao graduate high school, the bullshit parade their respective childhood skeletons reappear in their lives. circumstances lead to the boys moving overseas, leaving jianjian and their fathers behind.
they reunite after 9 years, when the boys return to a home where they hope to pick things back up from where they left off. things are more complicated than that, as jianjian finds herself in a new life and surrounded by new people.
MAIN CHARACTERS
li jian jian
Tumblr media
hai chao’s daughter and the only girl in the family. she attended the required short-hair-low-grades training program required of all cdrama youth female leads. super positive and outgoing, as well as the youngest of the three pseudo-siblings, jian jian grows up spoiled and over protected by her father and brothers, and as a result is completely devastated once her family falls apart. it’s so sad.
after the time skip, she’s an on-the-verge successful artist who makes woodcarvings, and exudes big art bro energy. inhales sugar like it’s nobody’s business. she inherited her father’s disease called caring too much, and it’s incurable!!
ling xiao
Tumblr media
the eldest brother and resident fun police. ling xiao comes from a seriously toxic home that finally seems to improve once his mother leaves. but then she comes back. fucking great. introverted to the point of being withdrawn to anyone but his chosen family, ling xiao’s had to carry a lot of emotional weight that takes a larger and larger toll on him as the series progresses. please get this boy some therapy.
becomes a dentist because jian jian needs one. wears a lot of monochromatic outfits with low necklines because heavy angst but make it fashion. has been in love with jian jian since high school and is still carrying that torch 9 years later.
he zi qiu
Tumblr media
the middle child who grows up in hai chao and jian jian’s home, and is her foster brother in all but paperwork. hotheaded, zi qiu and jian jian basically share two brain cells that ling xiao routinely takes from them for safekeeping. he spoils jian jian, sneaking her snacks and junk food and wants to become a pastry chef so he can open a sweet shop for her!!
my favorite character. just wants to be wanted 8( him and hai chao’s relationship is my favorite dynamic in the series. will sob while driving a pink moped. is too proud to beg
li hai chao (left) and ling he ping (right)
Tumblr media
the greatest (hai chao) and okayest (he ping) dads in the world! noodle dad/hai chao has never done anything wrong in his life, ever, and we know this and we love him. he ping isn’t a bad person, but demonstrates pretty classic absentee parenting/isn’t as emotionally present in his son’s life as hai chao. hai chao is the heart of the family, and would do anything for his kids 8(
SOME SUPPORT CHARACTERS
tang can (left) and qiu ming yue (right)
Tumblr media
jian jian’s #GirlGang and roommates. they, like literally everyone in this drama, have some severe mom issue hang-ups. tang can (left) is a former child actress who is struggling with her lack of success as an adult and gives well-meaning but absolutely terrible advice on the regular.
ming yue (right) is jian jian’s best friend since childhood and as an adult is trying to break free from her mother’s controlling nature--she’s also had a thing for ling xiao for the last 9 years. raises fish for symbolism purposes.
chen ting
Tumblr media
ling xiao’s mom and certified garbage human. unable to cope with the death of her daughter that was her fault lbr, she abandons her family and disappears for ten years. she forces her way back into ling xiao’s life when he turns 18, where it’s revealed that she’s remarried and ling xiao has a younger half-sister chengzi (”little orange”). shit goes down, and soon ling xiao is forced to move back to singapore to serve as primary caregiver to both his mother who abandoned him and the half sister he barely knows.
emotionally abusive and basically hits every single square on the toxic parent bingo card. i just. i just hate her. even typing this out is making me mad.
he mei
Tumblr media
zi qiu’s mother. after a few dates with hai chao, she ends up ditching her kid and disappearing for unknown reasons. is a slightly better parent than chen ting but that’s like saying some poison kills you slower. the show tries to bring us around on her but it didnt work for me.
SOME OTHERS
zhuang bei, zi qiu’s best friend growing up who i would like a lot less if he wasn’t played by the same actor who played my beloved dachuan
zheng shuran, jian jian’s first boyfriend and fellow artist who’s got a weird thing for women’s waists and pretentious artists’ statements
du juan, jian jian’s friend who co-owns their woodworking studio. has absolute trash taste in men
chengzi, ling xiao’s half-sister who can be a brat but dear god does she need to be protected/saved
**DRAWBACKS
so this is a weird one for me. what i didn’t like i really didn’t like, but what i loved i really loved. ultimately, the factors/uniqueness of this show and the loveability of the main characters outweighed the negatives and it’s one of my favorite dramas.
THAT SAID. i got some #thoughts on this one.
first, there are literally no positive mother figures in this show. not a damn one. they are all negligent or controlling at best or down right abusive at worst. no woman over 30 is portrayed positively and that’s a big No from me.
the last 10 eps have some pacing issues and focus on the wrong people. spending the remaining episodes focused on one of the most universally hated characters vs. the main family was a bad move
the show tried to redeem or make us sympathize with characters that were, to me, completely irredeemable. one case is worse than the other, but both of them were terrible people that deserved to be cut out of the main family’s lives.
REASONS TO WATCH
the main family. the characters are so wonderful and nuanced, and their dynamics with one another were amazing. you’ll fall in love with hai chao aka noodle dad and the trio. they go through so many trials but they still stick together and it’s ultimately a healing drama and i loved it very much.
the central romance was less in focus, but the pining is enough to make jane austen emerge from the grave. i loved the leads together, and while LOL ling xiao’s attachment to jian jian was not always healthy, they supported each other and it made me smile. i love me a tortured pining dude.
#Acting. everyone played their parts to perfection. the child actors in particular were so well-cast (esp baby zi qiu)
the soundtrack lmao. you watch the opening credits and know you’ll need to buckle up
idk it’s a very unique show, and i haven’t seen one like it. reply 1988 comes close, but it doesn’t tackle the same issues and it was all just very real and earnest.
Final Thoughts.
GOODNIGHT, GOOODBYYYYYE MY CHILDREEEEEEEN

Old Friends 6
Warning: Torture and attempted rape, take care of yourselves if you have problems reading!
Fluff/Angst
I also used google translate for Russian since I do not speak Russian, if you can imagine.
Reader gets kidnapped, and the team fears it may be too late.
Enjoy! Chapter 6: We were all eating lunch in the break room when Morgan looked at me with a smile.
“YLN, you knew Spencer pretty well in college, yes?”
“Um, yeah. I would say so.” I said with a giggle.
    “Got any stories?”
    Spencer groaned. “No, please.”
I laughed. “Um, well... Spencer would always correct the professor. No matter what. On one class day, the professor couldn’t take it anymore. She said ‘Mr. Reid, if you cannot handle a small mistake in my grammar, then you can teach the class!’ And guess what he did?”
“Teach the class?” Morgan was almost dying of laughter.
“Bingo. So a tall, lanky sixteen year old stood by the board and taught everyone for 45 minutes until the class ended. And not only that, he also said ‘Actually Professor, it’s Dr. Reid.”
“I can’t say this story surprises me,” JJ said in between giggles.
“She was teaching the lesson incorrectly! I was doing her a favor,” Spencer exclaimed.
“Whatever you say, pretty boy,” Morgan teased.
My phone buzzed, and my heart started pounding when I saw the caller.
“Um, I have to go really fast... it’s um... I gotta go.” I quickly got up from the table and stood by myself in the bullpen.
“Barry, why are you calling me?” I asked. “I’m not on the surveillance job anymore.”
“We need you right now.” Barry’s deep voice sounded distressed. “Lia and Frankie are dead, and Gretchen just went missing.”
The breath caught in my throat. “Is there the same signature?”
“They were both branded as victims of the Russian Mob in New York City.”
“Do we know where the lap dogs are? If anyone knows what happened to Lia and Frankie, it’s those thugs.”
“We know where they’re holed up, a run down apartment on Lower East side.” Barry paused. “No one knows these guys better than you, YFN. We need you to work your magic. And YFN?”
     “Yes?”
“Bring your team. We need all the help we can get.” Barry hung up, and my chest started tightening.
I looked up the stairs. “Hotch!”
---
“Are you sure your former team leader is alright with you bringing us in?” Hotch eyed me questioningly. “You said your old assignment was codeword-classified.”
“It was, but after the new circumstances, Barry gave me the green light to bring you guys in. If you want to,” I added. “I know it’s not a formal case, but I’m going to work it on my own either way. I’m by no means demanding your help.”
“We’ll help you,” Hotch reassured. “We are a family, and you are a part of that family.”
---
“Five years ago, when I had just turned 24, I was assigned a CIA job to conduct surveillance on members of the Russian Mob.” The team stared at me, completely dumbstruck. “I lived and worked from a small, run down apartment down the hall from a foxhole for the Russian Mob. I recorded, analyzed, and reported all their movements.”
Morgan furrowed his eyebrows. “For how long?”
“Three and a half years. These thugs that I lived down the hall from were involved in anything from small drug deals to human trafficking to illegal weapons distribution.” I remembered the small apartment that smelled of stale beer. “No one knows these guys better than I do.”
“Why were you taken off the job?” JJ asked.
“I wasn’t taken off the job. I requested a transfer six months before I left the surveillance apartment. My friend, Lia Morales... she took over the assignment after I left.” I paused for a moment. “She was tortured, murdered and dumped in the Lower East side three weeks ago. My other team member, Frank Castellan, was murdered in the exact same fashion one week ago. Gretchen Ryan, the only other one that knew about the operation bedsides Barry and I, went missing yesterday.”
“Do we have jurisdiction?” Spencer asked.
“Yes, they were federal agents and we are a branch of the Bureau. Let’s take a trip to New York City.” Hotch grabbed the case file and hurried out the door. “Wheels up in 30.”
“We’re meeting my former team leader, Barry Lesley, at the field office.” I called out as I followed closely behind Hotch.
---
Barry looked exactly the same as he did five years ago. Tall, bald, bulging muscles and a large sense of superiority. He went straight into business as he’s always done.
“No time for introductions, YLN I want you positioned nearby the new foxhole for surveillance.” I tried to ignore the way my heart sank at the thought of going back to a tiny apartment like the one I stayed in for three and a half years. “I want the rest of the team focusing on our known group of thugs that do the Mob’s dirty work here at the field office. Everyone got it?”
Everyone got it, but I could see on a few faces looks of irritation and confusion. They weren’t used to Barry’s take charge action, even compared to Hotch.
As we were getting supplies for the surveillance house, Hotch approached me. “YLN, I want you to take someone with you to the surveillance house. If they’re targeting your old team, that means you’re on the list too.”
“Hotch, I left the team before the assignment was blown. They don’t know about me.” I explained.
“Even so, take someone with you.”
I looked up at Spencer. “Wanna join me?”
    “Of course. Anything.”
---
The new apartment I’m staying in was even smaller than the last one. The recording gear was scattered on the bed, ready for use.
“So, this was your life for three and a half years?” Spencer asked me.
I let out a bitter laugh as we set up the audio. “Yeah, the only thing that kept me here so long was that I knew I was saving lives.”
   “How did you stay sane?”
The question surprised me, then I realized it actually was valid. How did I stay sane? “I didn’t focus on myself. All of my attention was on the people down the hall. Whenever I would hear them talk about ‘packages’ I knew I had to warn somebody.”
Spencer furrowed his eyebrows. “Sounds lonely.”
   “You have no idea.”
The recorder picked something up. They were speaking in Russian. “Kogda nam ponadobitsya sleduyuschiy pikap?” When are we needed for the next pick up?
“That’s Tevon. He’s almost 30 and he was once on trial for a possible gang related double homicide in Russia six years ago,” I explained to Spencer.
“pozzhe segodnya vecherom boss khochet, chtoby my vzyali dopolnitel'noye vremya s novym paketom.” Later tonight. The boss wants us to take extra time with the new package.
“That’s Eugene. He’s the oldest, and seems to call a lot of the shots in the foxhole. The Boss we haven’t gotten to yet, so we don’t know who he is, but something strange happened a few months before I left the assignment.”
    “What happened?”
“Someone shot the old Boss in the head and took his role. By the way these thugs talk about him, they like this new boss a lot better.”
One of the guys got a phone call. “Kakaya? O chem ty govorish'?” What? What are you talking about? “Federaly? Ostavaytes' na linii.” The feds? Hold on.
“This is not good,” I whispered.
All of a sudden the surveillance audio cut out. “Has that ever happened before?” Spencer asked.
    “No, never.”
Spencer raced towards the door, and right when he was in front of it, the door opened, and a fist collided with Spencer’s face.
I reached for my gun, but then I remembered that I didn’t bring it. This surveillance job was only supposed to be undercover, so why would I need a weapon?
They knocked Spencer to the ground, and looked over at me. “Tak chto eto krasivaya devushka, kotoraya smotrit na nas.” So this is the pretty girl that’s been watching us. By the voice I could tell it was Eugene.
The three men rushed at me, and I felt one of them jam a needle in my neck before my knees buckled.
---
The first thing I felt was the pain in my arms when I woke up. They were chained above my head, and by the numbness, have been there for a while.
The darkness of the chamber I was in still seemed to cast shadows across the faces of my captors. The biggest, Eugene, was sitting in an old wooden chair, watching me with a smile. The youngest, Igor, was asleep on an old ratty couch in the corner. Tevon was nowhere to be found.
“Hey Boss, she’s awake.” Eugene called out in English.
“Good. Now we can get started.”
The voice made me catch my breath in my throat. It didn’t have any kind of Russian accent, but that wasn’t the first thing I noticed.
A fistful of my hair was yanked backwards, and with my head tilted back, I could see into the eyes of the Boss.
   Barry.
“You son of a bitch.” I whispered. “You killed Gretchen, didn’t you?”
With his other hand, he traced a line down the center of my throat.
“Yes I did. Are you going to be a good girl for me, YFN?” He whispered, his breath hot in my ear.
When I didn’t answer, he let go of my hair and fully faced me.
His knuckles collided with my jaw, and he leaned in close to my face once I recovered. “Answer the question. Are you going to be a good girl?”
I licked the blood off my lip and spat in his face. “Never.”
Barry just gave me a sick smile, and wiped the blood and saliva off his cheek. “Good. This will be a lot more fun then.”
---
Spencer’s POV
How could she be gone? She was right there and then she wasn’t. I started panicking as the team arrived at the apartment.
“Reid, how many guys were there?” Hotch asked.
“Three guys, one named Eugene, one named Tevon, and I don’t know the last one.”
“I’ll call Garcia to dig up dirt on these guys.” Morgan grabbed his phone and took a few steps away.
“How could they know we were here? Nobody knew about this assignment except for us and-“ Spencer stopped. “Barry Lesley. Where is he?”
Prentiss’s jaw drops. “He said he was going to meet with some contacts a few hours ago but he never came back.”
“We have to find him.” Hotch seemed to age almost ten years older in this moment.
“And when we do, we’ll make him pay for messing with our family.” Rossi added.
---
Reader’s POV
They didn’t even ask me any questions. Barry and Eugene hit me with relentless force for what seemed to be no reason at all.
“Do you want some more?” Barry screamed in my face. Tears dripped down my cheeks and I could feel my broken ribs, but not once did I beg them to stop.
“I’ve figured you out, Barry.” My hoarse voice croaked. “Before I left the assignment, they were looking to me to replace you, weren’t they? You were going to be either demoted or fired, so when I quit the assignment, you got to stay.”
“Shut up!” Barry shouted, and he landed a firm punch to my stomach.
I gasped for air as I continued. “But you never... forgot that a 27 year old woman... was about to take... your job. That’s the reason you... became the Boss... so you could feel any sense of power... that I had taken away from you.”
Barry didn’t raise his fist like I thought he would. Instead he snapped one of his fingers, and Igor handed him a serrated knife. “Maybe you’re profiling me... but that won’t do you any good here.” He didn’t smile, he just walked forward slowly.
Suddenly my arms, which had long gone numb, were yanked upwards. I was pulled off my knees to where I could barely touch the ground with my toes.
Barry wrapped his free hand behind me on my lower back. “You’re going to love this... profiler.”
---
Spencer’s POV
Spencer had never heard Garcia type so fast as she did right now.
“Okay, so the Russian thugs don’t own any property in the US, but Barry Lesley definitely does. He comes from an old New York money family, so he has four properties littered all around the state.”
“Narrow that down to isolated buildings.” Hotch called out to the phone. Spencer was starting to panic. He didn’t even get to tell her...
    “Two properties.”
“Barry knows the geographic profile of the comfort zone. If he took YFN to one of those properties, it would be out of his comfort zone as a forensic countermeasure.” Spencer thought about YFN alone in a dirty basement somewhere. “What properties are outside of the comfort zone?”
“Oh my god, there’s only one! Sending it to your phones now. Please go save our friend!”
---
Reader’s POV
The knife was so, so much worse than fists.
Barry had ripped off my shirt, leaving me in my bra and pants. He trailed the knife along my stomach, leaving a line of blood behind.
The sticky feel of blood on my skin made me want to pass out. Barry suddenly pressed the knife down harder, making me scream. When he pulled away, he had a smile.
    “Please...” I whispered without thinking.
    “What was that?”
My eyesight was blurred in my tears. “Nothing… it was nothing.”
He laughed, and reached for his belt buckle. “I’ve been thinking about this for years.”
I squeezed my eyes shut as he lowered his pants and stalked towards me. I bit my lip as he hooked his fingers into my waistband and pulled them downwards. I did anything I could to take myself out of this moment.
“Have you seen the article explaining how Pi could be a rational number?” Spencer’s wide eyes looked so excited. “It’s totally preposterous, but still an interesting article.”
    Rough hands gripping my hips.
“YFN, what did you want to be growing up? I wanted to be a cowboy at first, but then after everything with my mom, I decided I wanted to cure schizophrenia instead.”
Hot breath in my ear. The rancid smell of cigarettes.
“I love you, YFN. I want you to be more than just my friend.”
The maniacal laughter echoing in the dark basement.
“Hey, um, sorry for the late call. I just wanted to let you know that I’m... struggling. Without you. A case... was more difficult than usual. I’m afraid that I’ll be hooked on something forever, and I can’t walk away from it.”
People shouting upstairs. A door being kicked in. The sound of a gunshot.
“You’re the strongest person I’ve ever met.”
A knife being plunged into my stomach. Another gunshot.
“I need a medic in here!” I was let down to the ground, rolling on my back.
Familiar coffee brown eyes looked down at me and warm hands covered the wound on my stomach.
“Spencer...can’t breathe...” I coughed, blood spilling over my chin.
   “Hey, I’ve got you.”
---
When I woke up, I could feel the pain that flooded my body. I could feel every broken rib and the deep stab wound in my stomach. I was alone in an unfamiliar room, and my heart started pounding in my chest.
Are you going to be a good little girl?
“Stop,” I whispered, squeezing my eyes shut again.
This will be a lot more fun then.
    “Shut up,” I said louder.
That won’t do you any good here.
“I said, shut up!” The words ripped from my mouth, along with other shouts and screams. I could still hear him, his hot breath whispering in my ear. All I could think of was the feeling of his knuckles against my jaw, his rough hands gripping my hips. And all I knew was that I had to get out of here.
And then I was running, more like stumbling, into the bright hallway as people in scrubs and coats tried to catch me from falling.
A man appeared in front of me in a dark red cardigan and black tie. He was saying something. I stopped running, and sank against the wall. The man’s voice seemed to be underwater.
“Remember that time in college? We were seventeen and I was too afraid to talk to you?” Spencer. He had knelt down in front of me, his hands cradling my head.
“... I got two cups of coffee from the coffee shop... and placed one in front of you in the library.” My voice didn’t sound like mine, as if it was coming from someone else. “I had said...’Coffee is a language in itself.’ You said ‘Jackie Chan.’”
“You don’t have to fight anymore, YFN.” Spencer let go of my face and held my hands.
Cold chains tugging my wrists above my head. I could see the bruises the metal cuffs left.
I didn’t realize I had started shouting and fighting again until a needle was in my arm, and I could feel someone catch me as I fell.
---
I woke up in a foggy state of mind. Dimmed fluorescent lights hurt my eyes, and I didn’t feel any pain. A beeping noise filled my ears.
The warm hand covering mine kept me from panicking.
“Hey.” Spencer’s eyes were puffy, and his dark bags sinked downwards.
“Is this a hospital?” I croaked out softly.
“Yes,” Spencer said. “You held on.”
    “Where’s the team?”
“In the waiting room. Do you want to see them?”
I shook my head no. “My brain feels like it’s full of cotton balls... and my throat hurts.”
Spencer gave me a sad smile. “Just get some rest.”
“Is that because I was screaming so much?”
    He didn’t answer.
    “Answer me, Spencer.”
His eyes looked down at the floor. “Yeah... you were really scared when you first woke up.”
That’s when I remembered everything. “Please don’t leave.”
“I wouldn’t dream of it, my dear.” Spencer gave me a weak smile.
That was a line from one of my favorite books. “You’re cute,” I mumbled as I closed my eyes and drifted off.
   “You’re beautiful.”
---
The team came and saw me after I woke up again. Hotch, Rossi, Morgan, Prentiss, JJ, even Garcia flew in from Quantico. And of course Spencer. “Thank you... for saving me.”
“Don’t mention it. You’ve saved the day so many times you finally let us have a turn.” Rossi had a twinkle in his eyes that I could swear looked like tears.
Hotch cleared his throat. “You’re going to be on medical leave for a while, but the doctor said no lasting damage had been done.”
At least not physically. I could tell that’s what everyone was thinking. My eyes found Spencer’s.
“Um, we’ll leave you two alone.” Morgan said, and the team shuffled out, leaving me with Spencer.
“How long have I been here?” I asked.
“We found you yesterday, so you’ve been unconscious for about 24 hours.” He walked forward and stood by my bedside table.
“How bad is it?” I whispered.
He seemed reluctant to tell me. “YFN-“
     “Tell me.”
He took a deep breath. “Four broken ribs, a collapsed lung, dozens of small wounds all over your body... and a deep stab wound to the stomach.”
    “Did he-”
    “No. He didn’t.”
I looked at Spencer with sad eyes. “But he tried to.”
We were quiet for a while, and Spencer sat at the edge of my bed.
“I trusted him.” I finally said. “I trusted him and he...” he killed three of my friends to get to me.
“It’s okay to cry.” Spencer said softly. But I couldn’t.
“Spencer,” I started. “I don’t think I’m going to be the same person I was going into this case.”
“I know. And I’ll be here with you every step of the way.”
I closed my eyes. “I’m so tired...”
“Go to sleep. You’ve earned it.”

A little pre-Weapon XI AU thing centered around the retelling of how Devin died and the half-truths Max likes to spin.
Warnings for violence, blood mention, and backstabbing
Or: if two Plumbers were on a mission escaping a heliokinetic psychopath and one shot the other in the back would that be fucked up or what?
The universe always seemed to get the last laugh in, no matter what Devin was doing.
“Max, he’s getting closer!”
Whether it was trying to make breakfast only to realize he didn’t have any eggs, or attempting to stop a galactic warlord from consuming stars on the weekend, he was always somehow the butt of a sick joke.
This joke’s name was Ragnarok, and Devin wanted nothing more than to wash his hands of the monster. He’d also like to wash his hands of the stupid, stupid man in the co-pilot’s seat next to him.
“Ship won’t go any faster, Devin!” Max hollers back.
Rolling his eyes, Devin mutters under his breath: “Have you tried flapping your arms?”
His current partner - a certain Magister Maxwell Tennyson - seems to find the whole bit some sort of joke, and was laughing through their last narrow escape from Ragnarok. Tennyson isn’t at all perturbed by the villain rapidly gaining on them, and a little voice in the back of Devin’s mind pipes up to remind him: you can’t trust a single one of them, not even your partner.
Which, obviously, was a lesson he had known long before he became a Red Spot, but was now a mantra he spoke every single time an incident like this happened.
Of all the bloody people to be partnered with, Maxwell Tennyson was a name at the bottom of a long, long list of Plumbers that--
“You with me?”
A voice cuts through Devin’s thoughts, and his partner is looking at him from the corner of his eye, grinning.
“What?” He says shortly, on edge.
“I said: Ragnarok really wants what we took, huh?”
Devin bites his tongue, resists the urge to snarl back that it’s his fault they’re in this bloody mess, that they had the element of stealth right until Max had to blunder their escape and alert every being with working cochlear nerves they were onboard Ragnarok’s ship.
“We couldn’t let him slaughter six billion people just to get his hands on the Sun’s energy,” he says instead, shooting Max a mocking grin. “Not my fault he didn’t like you stealing the key that activated his energy vortex. You’re welcome, by the way, for me bailing you out of there.”
Max’s expression falls immediately, eyes snapping forward and hands tensing on the ship’s controls, all comradery gone. Devin’s partner was never very good at saying thank you.
CRACK
Lurching in his seat with a grunt, the bulkhead rattles around Devin as the nav system sputters and whines before fading, and he watches with dread as glowing instruments suddenly wink out one by one, the ship going dark.
Next to him, frantically flicking switches and checking the backup system as it flashes a warning red, Max looks at Devin with wide eyes.
“Blast took out our engine couplings, our shields...we’re dead in space.”
Oh so slowly, a shadow overtakes them, plunging their vessel into darkness.
Swallowing hard, Devin tests the controls, tries to think of their fastest way out of here, all while Max just stares dumbfounded up at the massive ship overtaking them.
There’s a hissing vhmm from the rear door, and Devin glances back as the massive form of Ragnarok materializes in a blue haze onto their ship.
Red eyes boring into his own, the warlord sneers at the two Plumbers, back straightened and fists clenched at his sides.
“Where did you hide my key?” He speaks in a low snarl, lip curling back to reveal ugly yellowed teeth.
Devin shares a short look with Max, sees the gears turning in his partner’s brain.
Fuck this, he decides.
Standing and drawing both of his blasters, Devin unloads shot after shot at the ship’s newest arrival, and the human next to him takes just a moment longer before standing and unloading the clip of his weapon at Ragnarok just the same.
Ragnarok seems unperturbed, smoke clearing as the plasmabolts fizzle out, not a scratch on him. Devin growls, lunging behind cover with Max just as a vibrant yellow blast from Ragnarok takes out their ship’s main console with a resounding BOOM!
The blue halogen lights of the backup systems flicker before maintaining, secondary life support still online and running smoothly.
It does little to calm Devin’s nerves as he presses his back to the offhand weapon’s console, and glances to Max at his side.
His partner looks pale, staring straight ahead with his jaw clenched and right hand clutching his blaster. Devin watches him reload the clip in one movement without looking, recognizing the confirmed remaining charge of the weapon: seventy-three percent, glowing in luminous green.
“I’m going to go for the Null Void projector,” he grips Max’s arm for a moment, forcing the human to look at him. “Cover me, understand?”
“Devin, wait--”
But he’s already up, sprinting towards the main weapon rack on the far wall, ducking under another blast from Ragnarok that singes the hair on the back of his neck. Behind him, he can hear Max swear something in terran before more plasmabolts are fired off, and Ragnarok roars in frustration.
Devin slams his hand on the access panel, snatches the mobile Null Void projector from its rack just as another blast nearly takes him out, the explosion throwing him back against the port window and sending the Null Void projector clattering into the corner.
“Devin!” Max hollars, lunging out from behind cover and sending another round of bolts at Ragnarok.
The heliokinetic monster is grinning now, yellow energy glowing in his palms as he slowly stalks towards Max, and Devin has a split second to think before he focuses on an exposed electrical panel inches away.
Bingo.
Yanking a glove off with his teeth, he grabs one of the loose wires as he stands and lets the raw energy pulse through his body, instantly feeling woozy.
He only needs a short charge - thirty-five hundred watts should be enough - and the electricity extends from the fingertips of his left hand to the fingertips to his right hand, gathering at his wrist. Devin narrows his eyes, focuses, and fires.
A sharp blast of energy sparks off, lancing out to strike Ragnarok square in the back.
He screams, sinks to one knee, and Devin grins in triumph, dropping the wire.
The heavy smell of ozone hangs in the cockpit, and he tries to shake off the last jitters of electricity sparking off his hands before snatching the Null Void projector off the floor, levelling it at Ragnarok’s torso.
“Any last words?” He asks, unable to help the smug smile that crosses his face.
“You will know true suffering, Osmosian,” Ragnarok spits, pupils dots in a sea of dark red and yellow as he stares unblinking back at Devin. “This isn’t over, none of it. As long as you’re alive--”
Devin scoffs, flicks the trigger, and Ragnarok’s words turn to an enraged scream as he’s sucked backwards through the warped portal of the Null Void.
“Blah blah blah, you'll rue the day, et cetera. I’ve heard it all before.” Devin grins, sheathing the Null Void projector and inspecting the dark smear where Ragnarok once stood.
He can hear his partner stand, and turns to double-check their nav system.
“Computers will need a reboot, but we should still be able to get a signal out for pickup. Could be worse, I suppose.” He sighs, drags a hand down his face, feels the start of a migraine coming on. “Not a bad shot, eh Max--?”
POW!
Blindingly white-hot pain overtakes him as he hears the sound of a blaster go off. Staggering, falling to one knee, hysteria instantly grips Devin’s mind.
I’ve been shot. Max shot me.
His thoughts are confirmed as he collapses onto his side, glancing up blearily at the shape of his partner, silhouetted by the ship’s overhead lights.
“I’m sorry, Devin, I’m so sorry. I had my orders.” Max rasps out, crouching beside him, taking one of his hands in his own.
Devin almost wants to laugh, or scream. To tell Max he’s a brainwashed idiot, that things didn’t have to be like this, that he could’ve found another way. Really, he doesn’t even know why he’s surprised at this point.
“Orders, eh?” He chokes out, tasting copper. “So Ragnarok was a distraction, to get me to slip up?”
Max shakes his head, squeezes Devin’s hand.
“No. Ragnarok was...he was supposed to finish you off back on his ship, quick and clean. But if you want something done right…Devin, I’m so, so sorry.”
“I know,” Devin gasps, agony shooting through his body with each syllable. “Max just, please, promise me one thing.”
His partner squeezes his hand a little tighter, nodding.
“Tell my wife and son I love them.”
Any compassion drains from Max’s face, taken over by horror and dawning realization.
“Your what.”
Devin grins, finally knowing he got the last laugh in. Fuck you, universe.

Klaroline Bingo (20/?) - “I want his head” @klaroline-events
sequel to kc bingo ix. sins of my youth
Summary: Caroline commits another murder that she cannot remember and Klaus sets out to find out why. (Human Caroline AU)
when the days are cold
The third time it happened, she was alone in the back alley of an edge of town club.
The music could still be heard from inside, as neon lights flickered to illuminate the bloodied body on the dirty, concrete floor. A pool of viscous blood seeped out from underneath his head, surrounding him like a reflective, red halo.
The man was dressed in a leather jacket, the edges were unevenly shredded. His exposed skin was tattooed with scratches.
The flesh underneath her fingernails ached.
Klaus had gone to New Orleans with a vial of her blood in search of a witch to find answers after her second victim, who she threw from the Wickery Bridge a week ago. He left behind two Hybrids to protect her. Hybrids that were nowhere to be found, she noted to herself.
She looked down at her latest kill. It really should be the other around, she was the killer after all.
She had no tears to cry this time. She felt nothing. Her limbs were boneless, as she sank to the floor, her back against the brick wall.
“Hello, love,” His voice was a little distorted through the phone, but comforting nonetheless. Subconsciously, she had called him sometime during her daze.
“It happened again,” she stated, her voice sounded empty.
Silence.
Half an hour later, he appeared around the corner, looking devilishly handsome with his hair windswept. Was that inappropriate to be thinking of such a thing next to a dead man? She found herself unable to care.
“You ran?” She asked.
He nodded in response, “Faster than driving. I was on my way back anyway.”
“Did you find anything in New Orleans?”
“It seems that you’re under a spell, which explains why I wasn’t able to compel you to remember. What exactly the spell was and why, we’re still that figuring out.” He said, running his fingers through his hair. “And you’re sure you don’t know these men?”
“Not that I’m aware of... Should I?”
He ran his fingers through his hair, sighing quietly to himself as not to upset her from his frustration of their lack of progress. “The witches think there’s a hit list. There must be something linking these people together.”
He looked dejected, and she felt guilty. Guiltier than murdering these people in cold blood. She wasn’t sure what this said about her.
“We’ll figure it out,” she repeated after him.
“Whoever he is, the person who’s hurting you, I want his head.”
She gave him a small smile, “I wouldn’t expect any less.”
There was a brief silence between them, as she noted his tired and worn out look. “Let’s go home.”
She offered him her blood stained hand, which he took without a moment’s hesitation. There were so many questions left to answer, and the threat of her next kill loomed above their heads. But at least they were together, and she knew that he would do whatever it takes to save her...
Even if it was from herself.

Sadly, the list of 'required tools' she was asked to bring would never have fit in a bike. It would never have fit in Maggie's beloved 'princess plug' either, that silver Subaru with a bedazzled back hatch and two surfboards eternally attached to the rack.
Hence, renting a small U-Haul that drives like a dead whale. Maybe the Luthor Institute isn't really hiring her for her mind, maybe they just want her and her mom's research and devices. Lex Luthor has a scary rep in the academic community. He's probably just going to have someone shoot her as soon as she's buzzed in the gate.
Still. It's an interesting job because the not-interesting jobs don't come with 200-page non-disclosure agreements she signed, being watched by lawyers so clenched a punch-press and a vat of KY couldn't help them. It's a lot of money. It's enough money to put aside a million for their daughter by the time she graduates college. Once she finishes developing a spine, organs, and nervous system, that is. Alex was too busy puking to nickname the fetus, so Maggie stepped in.
Regrettably. Cervix-Kicker is just not something Alex can tease her slowly-swelling belly with, at least in public. Maggie's turn, next time. She's pretty sure there will be a next time. Alex suspects that pregnancy sex makes the case for the pregnancy itself, in Maggie's view.
Her phone lights up and a bonobo's shrieking voice comes out. Eliza recorded it during the early days of her fieldwork. Alex taps answer.
"Hey, Mom."
"Morning, sweetie.  How's the new job?"
=====
Nia rolls her eyes with such exaggeration it makes her fairy-dusted eyeshadow sparkle a bit in the sun.
"Come on, new girl," Nia teases. "I'll show you around."
"She will. She's basically in charge of the pep squad here," Frank teases. "When I started, I gained five pounds from all of the bonding lunches Nia organized."
"Did you complain?" Nia demands.
"I did not. And I do not regret a moment of it, kid. Someone will come unload the truck, doc. Thanks for bringing all your gear."
Frank tips his ball cap at Alex and goes back to the main group by the door.
"My mom's designs too." Alex mumbles. One accidental touch and she's blubbering out self-deprecation to near-strangers.
"Right," Nia chuckles. "The infamous Doctors Danvers. So is your kid going to be a world-renowned psych researcher does the third generation end up a bunch of losers who like, found the next Google?"
"Um, not sure. I have to meet them first."
"Shut the front door!" Nia exclaims. Her smile just went up about fifty thousand watts. "I was just joking but you're actually preggers."
"How ca-"
Alex glances at Nia's nametag. In the lower right is an omega symbol with an F beside it. Curiously, it even has the sub-status there even though that's unnecessary in the case of female omegas given the extremely low variation rate. Alex has never heard of subtypes being used outside of therapy or a doctor's office. Using them at work is legal--probably--but it's also downright bizarre. As an omega, Nia can not only smell the tiny changes in Alex's scent indicating she's pregnant, she can probably tell Alex what soap Maggie uses, along with her age, ethnicity, and most recent rut.
"They categorize us by status?" Alex asks. "How 1890s."
Nia sighs.
"Well, it's actually not so bad. There was a dude in maintenance who I thought was taking notes on my heat cycle. I mentioned something and the next thing I know there was this absolute unit of a woman from HR sort of shadowing me. Eating lunch, printing stuff to the copier we use, so on. Being obvious about it to, making sure he knew she had her eye on him. So they do use the information for the right reasons."
Any competent HR department could handle all that. Nia must realize that too.
"The creature. The creature can sense human genera and reacts to them."
Nia makes finger guns.
"Bingo. Got a nose like a bloodhound, that one. Even with the enclosure being vacuum-sealed and using completely different air, the creature catches it somehow."
=====
She nods towards the ruined hard drive, which has been ground and punctured and shaved to produce the bearings.
"I'm afraid I never made a backup."
"Fuck," Lex snarls.
She got Lex to curse in front of his men. Victory enough for one lifetime.
"Take her."
She lets the goons cuff her.
"Oh, and I injected myself with an agent that reacts violently with truth serum drugs. Violently and fatally."
"Which ones?" Lex demands.
"All of them. And I put an implant in my teeth with 2 grams of high explosive. So electrocuting me is out. We'll have to make a deal the old-fashioned way, brother."
Lex's pained bellowing is so sweet. ===== Lena's gurney is tilted back vertical and she's wheeled down a long hallway. A pair of armored doors buzz open.
It's a goddamned zoo enclosure. Gorilla enclosure, from the look of it. It reeks of alpha. Almost human. Almost sweet, even. A scent she wouldn't mind nuzzling into at night if she didn't know it was a beast's. Lex himself unclips her and tilts the gurney forwards, spilling her onto wood chips.
"Quite the specimen, I hear. She's used up three omegas so far," he sighs. "Maybe you'll fare better. Maybe you'll live long enough to get a pup in you. When you are ready to talk, press the red button."
Classic good old boy alpha thinking. Like many a single omega, Lena has guiltily indulged in rut non-con fantasies. So that's not quite the threat he thinks it is. Loss of control over the body and second-guessing whether it was consent or just surrender to the heat is Female Omega 101. She could maybe power through that. Close her eyes. Remember boarding school. Andrea and her flashing blue eyes and her exquisitely shaped cock -- ladylike, somehow -- long enough to slam the breath from Lena's lungs and her long hands closed over Lena's neck. Her affected machismo. Taking Lena like she was a mafia boss and Lena was some worthless whore from the back streets. Fulfilling that and any other roleplay Lena wanted.
This is a goddamned gorilla though. That's beyond the realm of kink.
She's in a puddle of light but the rest of the enclosure is dark. Too dark to see anything past her ankles.
That's when she hears it. Huffing. Panting. Too loud and to big a noise to be human lungs. Squelching. Grunting. Moaning.
A face spills out of the dark into the light. Matted blonde curls. Blue eyes glazed over with orgasm, drugs, or maybe in shock. The grunting increases in pace.
"So good, so good..." the blonde mumbles, throwing her head back and forth.
"Hi, Lena."
"Eve Tessmacher? Fuck. I thought you got fired."
=====
"Hey, Nia?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you go to my desk..." Alex begins before shame clamps her jaw shut. She's going to have to say it. Say it to a friend who is her employee and she wonders if the fancy toilet can be reprogrammed to drown her.
"Go to your desk and?" Nia prompts.
"Target bag. Sweatshirt and pants," she huffs.
"Copy that."
Alex catches her breath, then spanks the toilet paper roll over and over. She starts cleaning up. Nia's a good kid. In both the psychological and physical sense had painful days herself--phantom ruts colliding with her desired heat cycle--and she and Alex worked out a system. With it, Alex could sneak her pot chocolate from the cooler in Nia's car, sign it in on her behalf at security, hit the vending machine, and meet her in the breakroom like it's nothing.
Their friendship started out the way a thousand five-minute friendships do in bars. Nia asked for an opinion and Alex assured her she looked cute and that her blind date would love it. The guy turned out to be a moron but the resulting debrief cemented their dynamic.
She's not sure how someone can go from acquaintance to best friend, to kid sister in less than a month. She only knows Nia did.
=====
The member lot is small and the gold member lot is smaller still. Perhaps thirty stalls and mostly full.
Maybe when you spend this much on VIP access to a sex club, it makes sense to spend every weeknight there. Eliza didn't volunteer a number for the membership she bought Alex and Maggie but both she and Alex assumed that down payment on a house would be Eliza and Jeremiah's contribution. She probably went with this out of fond memories of her own years studying at UC National City. If she and Jeremiah ever shared an omega playmate, it would've been somewhere like here. Somewhere deniable.
"Look, babe," Julia whispers, pointing at the engravings in the concrete of the marked stall that Maggie is gradually working their Prius into, sliding it between a Range Rover and a Suburban.
"AD and MS, sponsored by EG?" Alex mumbles.
"Founder sponsored," Julia adds, pointing out something in smaller print and filling the right half of Maggie's vision with creamy cleavage and her lungs with candy-sweet scent of a willing omega.
"I fucking knew it," Maggie chuckles. "Your mom was one of the people that started this place."
"No!" Alex squawks. "Absolutely fucking no!"
"You park," Julia chuckles. "I'll distract her from herself."

Bones in the Ocean | Ao3.
This is part of the @sh-rare-pair-exchange and is a gift for @jesssssah. I hope you like it! This is also my ‘fairytale AU’ bingo square for @shadowhunterbingo.
There was one simple fact about Jace’s life. He could not live without Alec. So, when Alec was taken out into the ocean never to break the surface again, Jace knew that he had to follow him, no matter what it took to do so.
Malace, vague warnings for injuries and drowning.
Alec had been gone for about a month before Jace finally broke. For a month, Jace managed to pretend that everything was okay. He managed to close himself off, force down all his emotions, go to work everyday and be a shadowhunter, not Jace, not the man who used to be Alec’s parabatai, not a man who was missing half his heart but a shadowhunter. He was just a shadowhunter and he managed to keep that up for a month before all at once, he snapped.
All at once, he wasn’t a shadowhunter anymore. He wasn’t even Jonathan Herondale - greatest shadowhunter of their generation. He was Jace, a twelve year old boy who’d come to the Institute as an orphan, a boy who’d found solace in Alec, a boy who needed his parabatai back, no matter what the cost.
Jace knew then that he needed to get Alec back. He needed to see him again and he needed to make sure that nothing could ever separate them again. Now, he didn’t know how he could do that but he knew that he’d be willing to do anything to make it happen.
Jace dug up anything he could find of the fae. Anything that shed light on the elusive class of them that preferred to hide in the depths of the water, away from human civilization and fae civilization alike. They were the one class of fae that had their own government entirely separate from the Seelie Queen. Her influence couldn’t quite reach them under the water and apparently, they preferred it that way anyway.
This also meant that information on them was hard to come by. They rarely surfaced at all. They wrote no books Jace could read. They weren’t very forthcoming about any information regarding them whatsoever but what Jace did know from personal experience was that they could turn people, much like a vampire or werewolves could, though their ritual relied on magic rather than saliva or venom. Those who were turned weren’t as powerful as those born to the water nymph. They didn’t inherit the magic the others were born with. Turning was also very rare, hard to do and dangerous for everyone involved.
Jace didn’t manage to find out much else but that simple information was enough for Jace to wonder. Was Alec even still alive? Had he survived the transformation? If he had, what was his life like now, being so powerless compared to his new peers? Did he know how to survive by himself? Was Magnus helping him? Had the vicious nymph slaughtered him, regardless of what Magnus had promised Jace? Had Alec even survived a week?
Other things Jace thought about too. What did Alec look like now? Would Jace even recognize him? Did he look like the water nymph in the sketches Jace had found? With huge dark eyes, clawed hands and those sharp teeth that gave Jace nightmares, though he would not admit it. Did he look half as viscous as the sketches did? Did he really look like that much of a monster now?
That was all of course, if Alec had even survived the transformation. If he hadn’t, then none of those concerns were valid at all. He’d simply died in the water, probably in pain with no one who cared about him there to comfort him before he went but Jace tried to push that thought away. He had to believe Alec had survived. If he was proven wrong, Jace didn’t even know what he’d do.
If Alec had died, Jace didn’t imagine that things would ever be okay again. So, he couldn’t be dead. He simply couldn’t be but that belief didn’t help Jace when he had no clue what to do next. He needed to contact him or he needed to contact Magnus and unfortunately for Jace, he had absolutely no clue how to do that.
Asking around about the water nymph was not easy. Downworlders didn’t like shadowhunters and even if they knew something, few of them would be willing to share downworld secrets with him, especially about a species as elusive and powerful as the water nymph were. They rarely got involved in above water debacles but Jace did know there were rumors about their armies and their strength, so no one really wanted to anger them.
Jace didn’t even know if that was true. He didn’t know if they really had armies at all. He knew so little and no one at all seemed willing to help him fix that or they also knew nothing, which was almost worse. If no one knew anything, that meant there was no way Jace could get any information. That meant that he had no clue what to do and he had no plan and he had no way to even find out if Alec was alive at all.
Jace just needed to talk to him. He needed to know if Alec was okay. He couldn’t think about anything else until he did.
.
Jace finally got a lead a few days later. There was a faerie who apparently had close connections to the water nymph. Tracking him down was a hassle in and of itself but Jace finally found himself standing in the woods in some isolated park, weaponless as requested, feeling as if he was walking into a trap and finding it a little hard to care. He needed to find Alec. Even if he knew this was a trap, what else could he do but come and try?
Jace was jittery, looking around at every noise, waiting to have seelie weapons drawn against his throat but that didn't happen. When the faerie finally arrived, Jace looked up and simply found him standing there a few feet away. He was wearing armor with a blade across his side, looking ethereal and deadly all at once.
Jace, with his plain clothes and empty hands, felt entirely underdressed and under prepared but Jace supposed that was the point.
“Shadowhunter,” Meliorn cooed. “I hear you’re asking around about the water nymph.”
Jace took a deep breath in. “Yes, my parabatai-”
“Alexander,” Meliorn cut him off. “I’m aware of what happened with your parabatai.”
Jace didn’t ask how he knew. Word got around, he supposed but if Meliorn knew about Alec it had to mean he knew someone who had contact with him. Word had gotten from the water out somehow and Jace needed to know how.
“I need to know if he’s okay.” Meliorn’s eyes flickered up and then down Jace, frowning. “I heard you’d like to know a bit more than that. I heard you want to know how to do it.”
“It?” Jace murmured, knowing what Meliorn meant but asking anyway.
“You’d like to join him.” Meliorn said evenly. “It’s rare for a shadowhunter to be willing to undergo such a transformation. Are you sure you’d like to do it?”
“No, I’m not.” Jace snapped, his eyes flickering away. “I just… I need to know if Alec is alright and after that-” “You’ll decide if you can live without him or if you’d rather be cursed, like he is?”
Jace’s gaze sharpened into a glare. “Alec isn’t cursed.”
“He might disagree,” Meliorn murmured. “He’s alive. He survived the transformation. Magnus has been caring for him. I hear he’s grown quite fond of him.”
Instantly, Jace’s eyes snapped up. “You’ve heard from him?”
“I’ve heard from Magnus. He also told me that you should move on. He said Alec is safe and he’s adjusting and that you should adjust as well.” Meliorn stared at him for another moment longer before he kept speaking, “He’s not part of your world anymore, Jace. Trying to contact him would only make it harder for you both.”
“Alec is my parabatai.” Jace snapped. “I can’t live without him. I don’t know how.”
“And yet, you have to.”
Jace tightened his jaw in his mouth. “You won’t help me?” He asked finally.
“I think I already have. If you’re asking if I’ll help you contact him again, the answer is no.”
“Great,” Jace snapped bitterly, already turning to leave. Jace made it nearly twenty feet before he heard Meliorn call out to him, making him stop in his tracks.
“If you really want to do it, find Ragnor Fell. He’s Magnus’ oldest friend and one of the only people above water that he keeps in contact with.”
Jace spun around instantly, scanning Meliorn’s face as if to see if he was lying but Faeries couldn’t lie, could they? “Thank you,” he said finally, breathless in his disbelief.
Meliorn pressed his lips. “Don’t thank me. He probably won’t even talk to you.” Meliorn turned away before Jace could say another word.
Jace watched him leave, struggling to comprehend the fact that he had an actual clue. Alec was okay, Jace thought, repeating it to himself until the words sunk in. Alec was okay. He hadn’t died. He was alive somewhere and for now, Jace’s life was not over and thanks to Meliorn, he even had a lead.
Ragnor Fell. Jace had heard of the warlock before. He couldn’t be that hard to track down. If Jace was lucky, his address would be in the Clave’s files and it would be as easy as that to find him.
.
Jace, as it turns out, was not lucky. Ragnor Fell was in the Clave’s files, listed as one of the most powerful warlocks the Clave had ever worked with. His last known residency was a loft in London, one that had been long abandoned. He had no known address on file, only a small annotation that read ‘seen last in New York- 1997.’ There was a little blurb about him owning a club in New York but that wasn’t as helpful as knowing where the warlock lived.
Jace had to hold back a sigh as he read it and then searched through the system again, hoping maybe there was more information filed under something else that would help him. There wasn’t.
Jace finally spun away from the monitor, jumping as he came face to face Isabelle, who had clearly seen what he’d been searching for. “Ragnor Fell?” She demanded. “What the hell do you want with such a powerful warlock?”
Jace froze for a moment, not even able to come up with an excuse. “It’s nothing,” he said before he was pushing past her.
“Nothing?” She echoed, darting after him. “Jace, I know you’re looking for Alec,” She snapped when Jace refused to slow down.
“No, I’m not,” Jace said simply.
Isabelle reached out and grabbed his arm, forcing him to a halt. “Yes, you are. You’ve been asking everyone how to get a hold of Magnus. You didn’t think I'd hear?”
Jace turned to her, frowning. “So, what if I am?” He said at last.
“So what?” She snapped, appalled. “Jace we were told not to contact him. It was part of the deal. They don't like shadowhunters. You could be putting him in danger.”
It had been part of the deal. Magnus had told them that if he took Alec, he didn’t want any other shadowhunters bothering him again but how could Jace just move on? “I don’t think I am putting him in danger,” Jace said finally.
“What do you mean?” Isabelle asked cautiously.
“Magnus has been taking care of Alec. He likes him. He’s grown fond of him. Magnus isn’t going to hurt Alec.” Jace turned away from her, heading down the hallway towards the supply room.
After a second, Isabelle darted after him. “Ragnor?” She questioned simply.
“He’s Magnus’ oldest friend. He’s the only one Magnus keeps in contact with up here,” Jace explained as he walked into the room, darting over instantly to the weapon’s rack, where he snatched up a blade and started to head towards the door.
“Where are you going?” Isabelle asked behind him.
Jace paused for a moment, turning back to look at her. “Ragnor used to own this club downtown. He hasn’t been seen there in years but someone might know where he is.”
Isabelle hesitated for a second before she grabbed her own weapon off the shelf. “Fine, I’m coming with you,” She said, heading past him and starting to go out the door without another word.
“Are you sure?” Jace asked, as he followed her outside. “It’s not only going against what Magnus said,” Jace reminded her. “It’s going against Clave orders.”
“I’m sure, Jace,” she said and Jace could do nothing but nod in response. Secretly, he was a little relieved to not be going alone. He was so used to doing everything with Alec. Having to do everything alone was one of the hardest parts of him being gone.
He was used to being two parts of a whole and now, it was just him, trying to find his other half again.
.
The pandemonium was as full as Jace imagined it always was on a Friday night, being that it was the most popular downworlder club in New York. Jace made his way through the people towards the bar after splitting up with Izzy, both of them agreeing to do what they do best - flirt and try to find information. Though, normally on a mission like this, Alec would be there watching from somewhere, waiting to jump in if they encountered trouble.
It made his absence all the more obvious, not as if Jace had been able to think of anything else since Alec had been gone. Jace settled at the bar, ordered a drink to look casual and then started smiling at people, flirting, dropping Ragnor’s name when he thought he could without raising any red flags but if anyone did know how to contact Ragnor, no one was very forthcoming.
On the outside, Jace knew he looked at ease. He knew it looked like his attention was on everyone around him but in reality, Jace’s mind was only on one person and he was reliving one thing in his head, no matter how much he tried to push it away and focus on the task at hand.
He was thinking about Alec. He was thinking about what had happened to him. He was thinking about what Meliorn had said about his parabatai being cursed and he was thinking about that awful day that they’d lost him, the last day Jace had seen him.
It had been a simple mission, a deceptively simple mission. They’d been trying to chase down a couple of Shax Demons that had popped up on their sensors. It had been a little odd how the demons had clustered in the same area and showed up at the exact same time but they didn’t really question it before they set out to find them. Either way, they needed to kill the demons.
They’d found themselves in a graveyard, a small one Jace had never been to before despite living in this city for most of his life. One of the demons had popped out. Alec had taken it down with one arrow and that was supposed to be how the rest of the mission went. Simple. Easy. Kill them and get out but when they finally made their way towards the back of the cemetery, they’d seen something they were entirely unprepared for.
They’d seen a rift and without a warlock present, they had no way to close it. They could only fight the demons that kept spilling out. Izzy called the Institute. Alec and Jace kept fighting, trying to hold them back until enforcements got there and hopefully, a warlock as well but then, the unthinkable had happened.
A demon had dived at Alec and Alec, with his attention on a demon that was going towards Jace, hadn’t noticed. The demon had tackled him and before Jace could even blink, Alec had disappeared with the demon into the rift.
A warlock finally came. They closed the rift. Jace raced back to the Institute, clutching his parabatai rune. He could tell Alec was alive still but he was so hurt and they had no clue where he was. The Institute finally got the call that Alec had popped out of a rift that had opened on the sea coast. Alec, already injured from the demon attack, had fallen nearly twenty feet before he’d hit the sand.
Jace wasn’t quite sure what happened after that. He wasn’t there and he couldn’t convince a warlock to open a portal for him on such short notice. Magnus Bane had been there, somehow. He’d come to check out the rift so close to his ocean and he’d seen Alec, a crumpled bloodied mess on the ground.
All of Alec’s bones had been broken. Even with all the help the Institute could get him, Alec would not survive and then, something Jace still didn’t understand happened. Magnus offered to take Alec. He offered to change him and either Alec would die during the transformation or he would become one of them, stronger with Magnus’ magic, healthier, more vicious, never to leave the ocean again, never to again be human or nephilim, never to speak to Jace or any of them again.
It was part of the rules when things like that happened. If a nephilim became a vampire, they were not to talk to them again. If a nephilim became one of them, well the same rules applied along with the fact that the water nymph did not like them, would not tolerate communication between them and lived in the ocean, so far disconnected from modern forms of communication like the cell phone.
Magnus had offered to turn Alec only if he would not have to deal with any other shadowhunters again. He made it clear Alec would not be worth his effort, if he was going to be cursed having to deal with nephilim for the rest of his life. If any of them contacted him about Alec again, Magnus would simply kill him and move on.
But how was Jace supposed to do that? How could he possibly move on and leave Alec behind, especially now that he knew Alec was alive? Besides, Jace was kind of banking on what Meliorn had said. Magnus was fond of Alec. He was protecting him and keeping him safe. Surely, he wouldn’t kill him just because Jace tried to contact him, right?
Jace was jolted out of his thoughts when someone stepped in front of him. It was a warlock, Jace recognized instantly. The warlock had horns and skin that could have been off colored but Jace couldn’t tell in the flashing colored lights of the club. Finally, the lights flashed white for a moment and Jace could see the emerald green skin.
“I hear you’re walking around my club bothering all my patrons to try and find me,” Ragnor posed, looking exceptionally unimpressed. “Find your sister and follow me. I’ll give you five minutes if it will make you never contact me again.”
Before Jace could say anything, Ragnor turned and was heading towards a room in the back of the club.
.
“What do you want?” Ragnor snapped, sounding as if he was already reaching his limit with the situation at hand.
Jace started speaking instantly. He wasn't going to push his luck with pleasantries.“I need to contact Magnus Bane. I hear you know how.” Ragnor eyed him, not looking any more impressed with Jace’s explanation. After a second Jace kept speaking, “My parabatai, he-”
“I know who your parabatai is.” Ragnor said before sighing, turning away from them both to head towards a drink cart Jace saw in the corner.
“I need to talk to him,” Jace insisted.
Ragnor peered at him, pouring a drink without looking at it. “Magnus told all of you not to contact him.”
“I know but-”
“What do you want Magnus to do anyway?” Ragnor continued. “You know your parabatai survived. What, do you just want to meet up and have a chit chat about life? There’s no reason for you to have to contact Magnus. Your parabatai is in a different world now. You knew that when you agreed to have him changed. Trying to contact him isn’t going to do anything but make it harder for you both.”
At that, Jace hesitated and after a moment, Ragnor’s eyes widened just a fraction. “Magnus isn’t going to change you too.” He snapped, sounding shocked Jace would even consider it.
Next to him, Isabelle finally seemed to find her voice. “He doesn’t want to be changed,” she said confidently before turning to Jace and seeing just how unconfident he looked.
“Why wouldn’t he?” Jace asked quietly, ignoring what Isabelle said all together. “He was willing to do it for Alec.”
“Jace-” Isabelle snapped, looking horrified. Jace ignored her and kept his eyes fixed on Ragnor.
“Yes well, Magnus has a soft heart for shadowhunters who are bleeding out on his beach. You are decidedly not bleeding out and you don’t know what you’re asking for anyway. It’s a painful transformation, one you probably wouldn’t survive, one your parabatai almost didn’t.” Ragnor stared at him for another moment before he sighed, placing his drink down. “It must be… hard losing him-” Ragnor said, sounding as if he was trying to find a single sympathetic bone in his body and struggling. “But Magnus isn’t just going to change you because you’d like it. That’s exactly why he hesitated in doing it to Alec- he didn’t want all of you bothering him.”
“I’d just like to talk to Magnus once.” Jace murmured softly. “If he tells me no, I’ll move on,” Jace said, only half meaning it. There was no moving on from Alec but if Magnus did say no, what other choice would he have?
“I’ll ask him and I’ll let you know.” Ragnor said at last, “But I wouldn’t expect an answer other than no.” Ragnor waved his hands towards them both. “Get out of my club before I change my mind and don’t ask at all.”
Jace hesitated for a brief moment before Isabelle reached out and grabbed his hand, starting to gently pull him towards the door. It was only outside in the cold crisp air that Isabelle spoke again. “You can’t really want to join him, Jace?” She asked softly.
For a moment, Jace kept walking, ignoring her. At last, he snapped, “Of course, I do. He’s my parabatai, Izzy. ‘For whither thou goest, I shall go’ and he had just-” Jace broke off with a shaky breath.
“He had just told you that he was in love with you,” Isabelle finished softly. “He told me.”
Jace stopped in his tracks, his hands clenched into fists at his side. “I didn’t react right. I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t tell him that I loved him too and now, he’s gone.”
Isabelle sighed softly. “That’s a big choice, Jace. You’d be leaving everything you’ve ever known behind.”
“Except Alec.”
They stared at each other for a moment before they both started walking again, in silence.
.
Ragnor’s answer came the next day in the form of a short fire message. “He said yes. He’ll meet you at the dock near the Los Angeles Institute at midnight tonight. If you’re late, he will not see you again.”
Isabelle said she’d come with him, though Jace tried to convince her otherwise. Magnus was centuries old. He had a greater demon’s blood and he was one of the most powerful beings the Clave had on record. If Magnus did not like them, this could go bad very easily but Isabelle insisted she’d come. This was about Alec. Of course, she’d come. Besides, she told Jace if he ended up not coming back, she wanted to be there to say goodbye.
How could Jace argue with that?

The meeting spot Bane had requested was isolated enough to make it a hassle to get to without a portal but at last, they managed to find the right spot. It was an isolated dock that Jace wouldn’t quite describe as close to the Los Angeles Institute. It was more vaguely near, if you considered a couple miles of nothing as near.
Regardless, they made it there only a little late. Ragnor’s words about not being late rang through Jace’s head but Magnus wouldn’t really leave because they were a few minutes late, would he? They walked out onto the dock and both of them, even with their most important runes lit, almost missed the fact that there was a man standing on the dock, looking out at the ocean, as still as if he’d been a statue.
They both froze a couple of yards away. Isabelle’s hand snapped to her whip. Jace reached for his blade but didn’t pull it out yet. For a moment, it almost seemed as if the man hadn’t heard them and them, he turned and peered across them both only looking mildly interested.
Jace knew at once that this was Magnus Bane. It could be no one else. His cat eyes cut through the darkness sending a chill down Jace’s spine. The man was nearly naked and not seeming to find that fact disturbing one bit. For a moment, Jace was thankful he could only just make out the shape of Bane’s body. He couldn’t get distracted. Not now. This was about Alec.
“Bane,” Jace called, knowing it was him but needing some kind of confirmation. Bane was a water nymph and yet, he stood here, his body more human than not, his scales mostly gone, his fingers twisted, humanish in the light and his legs.
Jace had heard rumors that the sons of greater demons could do what the rest of the water nymph could not - they could shift and move to walk among the humans but Jace had always assumed it was rumor. Apparently, he’d been mistaken.
“Lightwoods,” Bane called over, sounding unimpressed with them already. “You’re late.”
“We had a hard time finding you-” Jace started but Magnus waved him off before he could keep going. Jace fell silent instantly and that seemed to make Magnus smirk in the darkness.
“Oh, you’re obedient. What a pleasant surprise.”
Jace stayed silent and he wasn’t even sure why. Magnus had told him to be quiet, more or less, and he wasn’t going to speak and mess up whatever chance he had at seeing Alec again. Jace told himself that was the only reason why but in the back of his head, he knew it was something else too.
Magnus was commanding. He held himself with such confidence that even Jace paled in comparison to. It was hard to not want to listen to him, that and the fact that he was unnerving, scary in the way that monsters who appeared human were.
Magnus’ eyes flickered to Isabelle at last. “You can go,” he stated simply.
Instantly, Isabelle started to protest. “I’m not leaving him here alone.”
Magnus’ eyes flickered to Jace and then back to Isabelle once more. “I wasn’t asking,” He said mildly. “You can see him again when we’re done talking. I’d like to speak to him in private.” Isabelle opened her mouth to protest again but Magnus raised a finger, silencing her. “Or, I can just leave,” He threatened.
“Go, Izzy,” Jace said without looking over.
They stood for a tense moment before Izzy finally turned and started walking off the dock, leaving Jace and Magnus completely alone. Jace was happy that Isabelle left without a fight. He knew she didn’t want to leave him. Truthfully, being alone with someone as powerful as Magnus made Jace nervous but it was better than Magnus leaving and Jace having no chance of seeing Alec ever again.
Magnus eyed Jace for a moment before he turned to face the ocean like he had been when they’d first walked up. “Come,” he murmured softly.
For a moment, Jace was surprised Magnus would turn his back on someone who stood there armed but that also meant Magnus knew he had nothing to worry about. Jace wouldn’t be able to hurt him and besides, Magnus had Alec. Jace wouldn’t hurt him, even if he could.
Jace eased his hand off his weapon and walked forward, until he stood a few feet away from Magnus, his body tense all over. Magnus was completely naked, Jace could see this close. He put his eyes pointedly forward, watching the waves crash out on the dark ocean.
“You’re human,” Jace said finally, unable to stop himself from saying it.
“No,” Magnus murmured. “I’m not. I just look it.”
“Could Alec-”
“No,” Magnus said simply before the hope could grow in Jace’s voice. “He couldn’t. The transformation is permanent. He isn’t like me.”
“Oh,” Jace whispered, unable to keep the disappointment out of his voice. If Alec could look human again, that could change everything. Jace could come here and they could visit. Alec could talk to him. Alec could walk up on the beach and tell Jace all about what he’d been doing recently but that was just a fantasy. Alec was stuck, with literally an ocean keeping them apart.
“Why did you want to meet me, after I explicitly told you not to contact me?” Magnus spoke mildly but there was a twist in his words that reminded Jace he’d already disobeyed him by asking him to come here at all and yet, Magus had come to meet him.
“Meliorn told me you were fond of Alec. I was hoping you wouldn’t really hurt him.”
“That’s not a reason. That’s a justification.” Magnus turned to look at him and Jace found that his eyes were almost hypnotizing this close. “Why did you want to talk to me?”
Jace swallowed, his throat suddenly incredibly tight. He thought about telling him he wanted to ask how Alec was. He thought about telling him that he needed to know that Alec was okay. He thought about asking him to tell Alec that he loved him and that he was sorry he ever hesitated in saying it back.
That was all true but that wasn’t really what Jace was hoping to get out of this. “I want you to take me too.” Jace said, something pleading breaking out in his voice. “I want to be with Alec. I can’t live without him. I want to come too.”
The moment Jace said it, Magnus’ entire face softened. He stared at Jace and in the pale moonlight, he almost looked sorry for him. “Ragnor told me you wanted to do it but I didn’t believe him. Most shadowhunters would choose death over a life in the ocean.”
“I’d choose a life in the ocean over living without Alec,” Jace said and there wasn’t even a flicker of hesitation. He even surprised himself with how sure of it he was. He hadn’t wanted to admit it to Meliorn. He hadn’t wanted to admit it to Ragnor or Izzy but it was true. He wasn’t just thinking about it. He didn’t just want to make sure Alec was okay. He wanted to go with him more than anything. He needed to go with him.
For a beat, Magnus eyed him as if fully taking him in for the first time. Finally, he looked back up to Jace’s face and though nothing in his expression had changed, Jace got the impression he was pleased. “You’re lucky you’re cute and not as incredibly annoying as you seemed when you were asking about me to anyone who would listen.”
Jace didn’t know how he knew he’d been asking around about him, nor did he ask. He didn’t want to risk suddenly appearing annoying and having Magnus change his mind. “So, you’ll do it?” Jace asked, half in disbelief.
Magnus raised an eyebrow, “You do realize there’s a great chance you won’t survive. I’m surprised your parabatai did. I had to do a lot to keep him alive. The chances of both of you managing to survive is slim.”
Jace nodded. “I know.”
For a moment, Magnus kept eyeing him, as if he was waiting to see any hesitation, any glimmer that showed Jace did not want to do this. Instead, he saw nothing. Magnus turned back towards the ocean, letting out a soft sigh.
“Go say goodbye then,” Magnus said.
Jace turned and started walking down the dock towards Isabelle before Magnus changed his mind completely.
.
Jace had almost expected Isabelle to try to talk him out of it but she didn’t. They’d both come here knowing that if Jace was given the chance to join Alec, he would. He loved Alec more than anyone in the entire world and if Alec was somewhere, Jace had to go with him. The fact that Isabelle had ever been surprised he’d wanted that was shocking in and of itself.
Isabelle didn’t try to talk him out of it. She didn’t even comment. She just hugged him tight for a moment and then, she let him go. They both knew they wouldn’t see each other again. The ocean was vast and after Jace changed, if he even survived, they would speak entirely different languages. Jace was leaving her behind here but Alec had already left them and Jace had always been Alec’s anyway.
“I love you,” he murmured as he let go.
She nodded, looking as if she was trying hard to keep the water out of her eyes as she responded. “I love you too,” she murmured. “Take care of him.”
Jace nodded and after a moment, he turned away from her. Shadowhunters didn’t say goodbye and though Jace wouldn’t be a shadowhunter soon, he wasn’t about to break that trend. Saying goodbye would almost be like tempting fate to make him not survive this and he needed to survive this.
Alec would blame himself forever if Jace didn’t, so there was no other option. He needed to survive. He needed to join him. He couldn’t let Alec do this alone.
Jace walked down the dock until he met Magnus, where he stilled. Jace hoped Isabelle had started to walk away already. She didn’t need to see whatever would happen now. Jace didn’t even know what would happen now. Would Magnus do it here on the dock? Would he drag him to the bottom of the ocean?
Magnus turned to look at him, raising an eyebrow. “Are you ready?” He murmured.
When Jace nodded, he frowned, his eyes flicking up and then down Jace. “I do hope you survive,” Magnus said at last. “You’ll make a pretty one.”
Jace didn’t even have a chance to respond to that before Magnus grabbed him, his grip tight on Jace’s upper arm as he pushed him and then, the world disappeared in a blur of dark blue. Jace was suddenly freezing. For some reason, he hadn’t expected the water to be so cold.
Something moved in front of him and the dark figure made Jace flinch, his shadowhunter instincts yelling at him to find a weapon, to get out of the water where he’d be able to defend himself more easily but after a moment, Jace’s eyes focused on what the figure actually was and his heart started pounding in his chest.
It was Alec. He looked nothing like Jace remembered him but it was him. Jace would recognize him anywhere and he was suddenly ashamed that he’d ever questioned if he would or not. He was huge, which probably shouldn’t have surprised Jace as much as it did. Alec had always been big as a shadowhunter. He’d been bulky and tall and his form now was even more so.
His scales were dark blue and in the water, Jace could just barely see the way they shimmered in the pale moonlight- flickering in light blue, touches of green, turning his body from a dark almost black blue to a cascade of different hues. He had claws now too, long dark spikes that came off his webbed fingers into claws sharp enough that they looked like they’d stab right through Jace, if Alec wanted to do so.
He looked dangerous and terrifying and he looked like Alec. His eyes flashed across Jace and Jace could see that same concern in them that he saw when he got hurt and Alec was there, trying to save him. Jace saw something else moving and it took him a moment to realize it was Magnus. He’d changed now and he looked so entirely different from how he’d looked a moment before, on land.
He was so different from Alec. His scales were bright gold even in the dark, shimmering in hues of red as he moved. His eyes glowed bright in the water and he moved like a blur around Alec, leaving Jace to only see the flash of his tail before he’d moved out of sight again.
Alec darted forward suddenly, pressing his cold mouth against Jace’s. Jace was startled for a moment. Of course, he wanted Alec to kiss him but he was surprised that was his first reaction. Then, he felt Alec pushing air into his lungs and Jace realized what Alec was doing.
Jace was drowning. He was trying to stop Jace from drowning.
Alec grabbed Jace as he pulled away, being careful not to stab Jace with his claws as he did so. He moved like he was going to pull Jace to the surface but Magnus was suddenly there again, grabbing Alec to stop him and chattering in some language Jace did not understand. Whatever Magnus said came out in a series of chirps and noises. Jace wondered if Alec had understood him instinctively when he was turned or if he’d had to learn their language.
Jace had never been fantastic at languages. That had always been Alec’s thing.
Alec pulled away from Jace, looking angry. He seemed to argue with Magnus about something for a moment before Jace felt Magnus grab him and start pulling him down, leaving the pale light from above to start disappearing as they sank.
Alec froze for a moment and then, he darted after them, following them as they went to the bottom.
It was just about then that Jace realized his lungs had started to burn. He was drowning, he realized after a second and this time, Alec was not there to push air into his lungs. Jace didn’t know why he was surprised by that. He’d kind of expected that he’d just change before he had to feel this awful choking feeling but that apparently wasn’t the case because even when they stopped going down, neither Magnus or Alec did anything about the fact that Jace couldn’t breath.
Alec just hovered, looking exceptionally concerned as he made circles around Jace’s drowning body, looking like he wanted desperately to do something to help him but couldn’t.
Jace passed out at some point and when he woke up again, the only thing he could feel was pain. His whole body was lit in pain and that horrible feeling was still burning his lungs. He felt like he was so far past drowning. He felt like he should be dead by now but he wasn’t.
It was a few moments later that Jace started breathing, somehow. He could feel himself doing it in the water but he couldn’t even think about how because everything suddenly hurt so bad that Jace couldn't think of anything else. It felt like all his bones were breaking and it felt like his skin was being torn off but eventually, the pain subsided and when Jace opened his eyes an unknowable amount of time later, everything was different.
At first, Jace didn’t notice that he was different. He noticed that everything around him was different. The ocean, which before had looked like nothing but dark shapes, was lit in a way Jace had never seen before. The light wasn’t actually coming from anywhere but Jace could just see through the darkness now. He could see every particle floating through the water and every small creature fluttering by. He could see the rocks and the grains of sand at the bottom of the ocean. He could see to the water line far above and the warmth.
The water had been freezing when Magnus had pulled him in but now, it felt like a warm bath. It felt like it was the perfect temperature to live in forever and when Jace finally looked down at himself, he realized why. Suddenly, he remembered exactly what happened and he realized for a startling second that he was breathing in the water.
Which made sense, considering that when Jace looked down, he had a tail. It wasn’t as bright as Magnus’ or as dark as Alec’s but instead, it was somewhere in between. Jace’s scales almost looked like Magnus’ gold scales except they were muted, shimmering more in hues of silver and green instead of the bright red of Magnus’ own.
It was beautiful, he thought for a moment but he still didn’t quite feel like that could possibly be him but when he moved, his tail flicked softly and he knew that he was undoubtedly looking at himself.
The moment he moved, he saw a flash of movement next to him and before he even registered that someone was there, he was looking up at Alec. Alec’s eyes were wide and frantic, flicking over him as if he was expecting to see an injury that it didn’t seem like Jace had.
Alec’s mouth opened and he was speaking suddenly. Jace could hear two things happening at once, he could hear the individual sounds that Alec was making, the clicking noises that Jace had heard before, the sounds that had sounded like nothing meaningful at the time but now, Jace could understand him. He didn’t even know how but he could.
“Are you okay?” Alec asked and even though it sounded so different from english, Jace could hear that same alert tone in Alec’s voice that Jace was so used to.
Jace opened his mouth but english words couldn’t seem to find their way out. He fumbled for a moment before Magnus was there at the other side of Alec, speaking softly, “He’s fine. It’s going to take a while for him to be able to speak,” he said, seeming as if he was reminding Alec of that fact. “Remember you?” Magnus asked.
Alec nodded but his eyes didn’t move off Jace. Finally, Alec darted forward and Jace felt Alec’s arms wrap around him. Their tails curled together and Jace felt Alec huff what sounded like a laugh in Jace’s ear.
“I’d have killed you if you died trying to come to me,” Alec murmured to him.
If Jace knew how to speak, he’d have told Alec that he should have always expected Jace to follow him but he didn’t know how to say it, so he just held Alec closer, trying hard to be aware of the talons he now had and not dig them into Alec’s side. If he could have, he’d have told Alec that he loved him too but he couldn’t, so Jace could do nothing but let it wait.
After a few moments, Magnus said they should go home and then, Alec pulled away and Jace got to learn how to swim for the first time.
.
‘Home’ it turns out was a cave. It was a nice cave admittedly, but still a cave and still very different from anything Jace had ever considered a home before. There was coral growing all around the outside of the cave along with other plants that looked like they had been intentionally placed there. Long flowing strings of seaweed obscured the entrance but they really looked more decorative than truly placed there to hide the cave.
Inside, it was even more intentionally decorated. Jace looked around and found shells. He found pretty, intricate looking gems and stones. There were glass containers pressed into the crevasse of the rocks, containing some things Jace recognized - vampire fangs, feathers - and some he didn’t. There were some human things too.
There was a small row boat pressed into a corner, almost looking like a bed. There was a net hanging across part of the ceiling, swaying gently in the water like a hammock in the wind. Jace could see live fish caught in another smaller net, fluttering around as they attempted feebly to escape.
There were lights here too, lit with some force Jace didn't know of. There were glowing stones across the walls and they reminded Jace of witch lights, something that comforted him and reminded him of home all at once.
Alec didn’t let Jace look around for too long before he was pulling Jace and pushing him gently into the boat, telling him that he needed to rest. Jace sank into the boat without much protest. He wasn’t that good at swimming anyway, especially not if he didn’t have Alec by his side to help him.
Besides, Jace was exhausted. Jace relaxed into the boat and let himself close his eyes, well aware of the fact that Alec was hovering around him anxiously, keeping a close eye on him as if he expected Jace to disappear.
Even that anxious vibe that Alec gave off was comforting. Jace didn’t think he’d ever feel Alec stress him out again.
.
It was apparent to Jace rather instantly that before he’d arrived, Alec and Magnus’ relationship hadn’t been strictly platonic and now that Jace was there, neither of them seemed to know where they stood. Neither of them said this to Jace but Jace could just tell and suddenly, Meliorn’s words of Magnus being fond of Alec rang a little differently in Jace’s head.
Jace wanted to say something about it. He wanted to talk to Alec and tell him that he loved him but that if he’d moved on, Jace was happy just being with Alec again but his ability to express himself wasn’t quite on par with saying that.
He understood Alec and Magnus instinctively and some part of him knew how to answer them too but trying to actually get the sounds out of his mouth was a hard and difficult process. Apparently, Alec had taken to the language much more easily, which Jace wasn’t really surprised by.
Jace had always gotten praise because he was more flashy than Alec and he excelled at catching everyone’s attention but Alec was always innately more skilled than Jace was, he just kept it to himself. It was only ever people like Izzy and him that noticed but here, the difference was apparent.
Even so, Jace didn’t find himself annoyed by it. He’d thought he’d lost Alec for so long and if it was Alec’s time to outshine him, then Jace was fine fumbling as he tried to speak, as long as Alec would stay with him while he did.
Jace didn’t actually find the words to try to talk to Alec for a few weeks.
.
Jace was eased into things like he was a baby. Magnus caught his food for him. Magnus showed him how to eat it. Magnus corrected him when Jace swam wrong. Magnus snapped at him when he strayed too close to something dangerous or too far away from him and Alec at all.
Alec himself seemed more than comfortable hovering around Jace and swimming slow circles around him that Jace couldn’t do if he tried, while Magnus did the actual teaching. It occurred to Jace that Alec might not actually know what was dangerous and what wasn’t yet, that or he just referred to Magnus’ judgement anyway.
The three of them had fallen into some kind of hierarchy and Magnus was undoubtedly at the top. When they went out, they went where Magnus brought them. They listened when Magnus spoke. If they came across others (which had only happened once and apparently did not happen often), Magnus was the one that spoke for them.
Magnus was bigger than them and more powerful and far more knowledgeable and that was a comfortable thing to fall into. Jace could see that Alec liked having someone who took care of everything for them and handled all of the important stuff. On the surface, Alec had always had so much on his plate and it must be rather nice now having someone else who took that role. Jace didn’t really mind it either. He’d always been strong headed and even with Alec but here, it was nice that Magnus corralled them like they were children. The structure felt nice in a world that was so foreign, even if Jace really wanted to touch the spiky thing just to see what would happen.
If there was anymore of a hierarchy beyond Magnus being at the top, it was certainly Alec and then Jace. Magnus would ask Alec’s opinion sometimes. They would have discussions that Jace was never involved in and he had the feeling that even when he was able to talk, he wouldn’t be but he wasn’t offended.
He was at the bottom but that came with a freedom that Jace breathed in as easily as his new gills pulled air from the water. Magnus and Alec took care of everything. Jace was safe and he could dart after fish and try to catch them (a task that Magnus did very easily, Alec was good at and Jace hadn’t quite mastered yet) and be dragged back like a child when he got too close to the drop off only Magnus ever seemed to venture into.
He was at the bottom but that was a comfortable place to be. He was taken care of and for once in his life, Jace let himself accept that. He’d never really been taken care of before. He’d never really let himself be but he was learning fast that it was a nice feeling.
.
In the end, it wasn’t actually Jace who broached the topic of their relationship. Jace had been planning on waiting a little bit longer before he tried to talk to Alec about it but when Alec brought it up, Jace couldn’t exactly tell Alec to wait until he could say more complex things.
It was one of the times Magnus was gone that Alec finally said it. He’d gone out to look for something he was out of, leaving Jace and Alec home alone in the cave. Alec had been folding seaweed, making a little rug out of it that Jace had seen them use like a basket. Truthfully, Jace didn’t think they needed any more of them and the ones they had looked better than the one Alec was making but maybe, Alec just liked having something to do. Jace himself was perfectly content curling against Alec's side, watching him maneuver his claws and trying not to cut the seaweed as he did.
“I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable,” Alec said at last, not even looking up from his task. “Before,” he murmured softly. “It’s okay if you don’t love me but I meant it and I’m glad to have said it but I’m sorry if it upset you.”
It took Jace a second to even process Alec’s words and then, even after he did he wasn’t sure how to respond. He knew what he wanted to say but he didn’t know how in the world to go about saying it, so before he could possibly overthink it, say nothing and react even worse than he had last time, Jace started speaking. “You didn’t,” Jace snapped frantically.
Alec paused and looked over to him, a small frown coming across his dark, scale flaked face as he waited for Jace to continue.
“Upset me.” Jace said, only recalling how to say it because Alec just had. “You didn’t upset me,” Jace repeated, finally stringing his thought together into a full sentence. Jace frowned himself, fully expecting Alec to cut him off as he struggled to find the words but Alec didn’t, he just waited and Jace was thankful for it.
Jace looked up to meet Alec’s eyes again, “I love you too,” he murmured. “I just didn’t-” Jace shook his head, frustrated. “I was scared,” he started again, scraping his unfinished sentence completely. “But I love you,” Jace repeated, hoping if Alec heard anything in his mangled words that he’d hear that.
Alec’s eyes were wide and soft. He looked away, not exactly looking disappointed but more shocked, as if the world had shifted in a direction he hadn’t expected and he didn’t quite know how to process it. Jace understood the feeling.
“Magnus?” Jace posed simply.
Alec slowly looked up to him. “Do you like Magnus?” Alec posed simply in response.
Of course, Jace liked Magnus. Magnus took care of them. Magnus saved Alec. Magnus reunited them by taking Jace too and besides, Jace did like Magnus even personally. Jace liked watching Magnus. Jace liked doing stuff Magnus didn’t like him to do, just so Magnus would roll his eyes and stop him. Jace liked how easy on Alec Magnus was and he liked how Magnus always seemed to know what not to say to Alec, to avoid pressing all those insecure buttons that other people had always seemed to press so easily.
Similarly, Jace liked how soft on him Magnus was too. Jace was still testing that boundary with Magnus but so far, Magnus never seemed honestly annoyed with him. He was always lighthearted about it, even when what Jace was doing probably was annoying to a centuries old all-powerful being but Magnus never lashed out at him and he ever seemed to get aggravated with Jace, not really.
But even besides all that, Jace knew that wasn’t what Alec was asking. Alec knew Jace liked Magnus. It was obvious but he was asking if Jace liked Magnus and the truth was, Jace wasn’t sure.
Magnus was beautiful. He was charming and he was fun to be around. He certainly flirted with Jace enough to indicate that he was interested but… it was obvious that Alec and Magnus were drawn to each other. Certainly, Magnus couldn’t really be interested in him too? That’s just how Magnus was. He flirted where others would normally do anything else.
“Does Magnus like me?” Jace asked instead of answering.
For a second, a brief almost amused smile flickered across Alec's face and then, someone else was speaking from behind them.
“Smooth way to avoid the question,” Magnus called over. “I haven’t peaked your interest yet?” He asked, half flirtatious and half joking. He raised an eyebrow and at once, Jace wanted to point and exclaim that that was why he didn’t believe Magnus was ever actually interested in him.
Magnus flirted with Alec too sure but Magnus also leaned close to Alec. He’d touch him softly and murmur to him. With Jace, Magnus only ever did this - he’d flirt, always half joking, never completely giving Jace any reason to think he meant it.
“You’re joking,” Jace snapped, his tone flat.
Instantly, the smirk on Magnus’ face disappeared.
“You never flirt with me like you do Alec.” Jace continued. “You’re always kidding.”
For a moment, neither Alec nor Magnus responded and then, Magnus opened his mouth, looking confused. “I’m not kidding,” he said softly. “Have you thought I’ve been kidding?”
Jace had the urge to deny it suddenly and avoid the embarrassment but after a second of hesitation, he nodded.
Magnus looked astonished. “I wasn’t kidding,” he insisted. “I just-” Magnus gestured over to Alec. “I knew Alec was interested, Jace. We talked about it before you came.” Magnus paused for a moment, frowning. “I didn’t know if you were or not and with you here, I wasn’t exactly sure if I was being cut out.” Jace stared, his mind struggling to process exactly what Magnus was trying to say. “So, you weren’t kidding?” Jace asked at last.
Magnus' expression flickered in an amused smile but there was something a little… self conscious beneath that. “I wasn’t kidding,” he confirmed.
“Oh,” Jace said, struggling to come up with a response.
“Disappointed?” Magnus asked, his lips quirking like it was a joke even though he didn’t seem to find it amusing.
“No,” Jace said hastily. “Surprised,” he insisted instead. They both stared at each other and after a pathetically long moment, it occurred to Jace that Magnus was scared Jace didn’t like him. He thought that somehow, Jace didn’t like him. “I’m not kidding either,” Jace said, which didn’t really make sense because up until now, Jace hadn’t really said anything at all, let alone something that Magnus might mistake as a joke but Magnus seemed to understand what he was saying anyway.
Magnus nodded slowly, “And… you two?” He asked, glancing between them.
Jace looked to Alec. “Not kidding?” He asked after a moment.
Alec huffed a soft, chipped laugh. “Not kidding,” he assured.
For the moment, it seemed it was as simple as that and there really wasn’t anything else to say until Magnus finally spoke again. “Well, let’s go,” Magnus said, turning towards the entrance of the cave that he’d come from a few moments before. “You’re finally going to catch a fish,” Magnus called over his shoulder.
Jace groaned softly before following, as Alec laughed an adorable, distinctly inhuman sound behind him.
.
Jace’s new life was easier to fall into than he’d expected it would be. He thought it would be a struggle all the way through and while some things were, even the struggles came easier than Jace had expected. Jace struggled to speak but neither Magnus nor Alec rushed him to get better at it any quicker than he did, so it didn’t seem like it was that big of a problem. Jace sucked at catching fish and he wasn’t stellar at swimming but Magnus caught them food and besides laughing at Jace’s attempts to be as elegant as Magnus was in the water, they didn’t rush him on that either.
Similarly, Magnus and Alec were easier to fall into than Jace had expected. With assurance that Jace was in fact interested, Magnus was more blunt with his flirting. He’d lean into Jace like he did Alec. He’d brush Jace’s golden wispy hair back and he’d press kisses onto Jace’s cheek, being careful to keep his sharp teeth and claws safely tucked away (something Jace learned that he was not fantastic at, when their relationship started to involve a bit more interactive things).
Alec was a bit more hesitant with him and it didn’t help that Jace felt equally as unsure with Alec. It was easy to fall into that relationship with Magnus when the man himself was the one initiating it but neither Alec nor Jace seemed quite sure how to go about it with each other. For a long time, they’d been friends and then, they’d been parabatai and now, they didn’t quite seem to know how to be something else, even if they both wanted to be.
In the end, they realized they were both vastly overthinking it. Nothing about the way they interacted had to change. Jace didn’t have to push aside his playful nature to try and flirt and Alec didn’t have to push aside his predisposition to be annoyed at what Jace did, so they could try to be more romantic.
Their same banter was fine and at night, if Jace wanted to tuck his tail around Alec’s and bury his face in the man’s neck, he could and that would be fine. If Alec wanted to wake him up by kissing him, he could and overthinking the way they interacted otherwise helped no one.
It was Magnus who so very helpfully pointed this out, after awkwardly watching both of them try to fumble around their new relationship for a few days. They both realized very quickly that Magnus was right, as he often was.
Looking back on it, joining Alec hadn’t exactly been a choice. He hadn’t really thought about the consequences or what life would be like underwater. The only thing he’d thought about was Alec and that he needed to follow him, regardless of where he went. There hadn’t been another choice but overall, Jace found that he couldn’t regret what he’d done at all.
Shadowhunters thought of those underwater as cursed, vicious creatures. The latter, Jace could understand given that he thought Magnus could kill someone in a second but the former? No, Jace didn’t think they were cursed. The real curse would be a life trapped away from Alec. The real curse would be knowing that Alec was here with Magnus and being stuck above.
Jace was not cursed. Alec was not cursed. Their lives were just different now and besides, if it meant that Jace could spend eternity with Alec and Magnus, how could it be anything less than a blessing? How could anyone pity them?
Besides, Jace also learned fairly quickly that his new anatomy was quite a bit more fun than what he’d had as a shadowhunter. Magnus said that their bodies were more sensitive than human bodies and that was a fact that Jace was more than a little excited to explore himself.
If Jace had been cursed with anything, it was an astounding appreciation for everything his new body had to offer. Things were different but overall, Jace really couldn’t complain, even if he never quite seemed to get the hang of the spinning maneuver that Magnus and Alec could do in the water.
Jace really, really wanted to be able to do it but he had a long time to practice and Magnus had a long time to be able to laugh at him as he tried to do it. Jace really thought that things could have ended up far worse for him than a life like this, with two boyfriends who he was not worried would get sick of him and a home full of water where he was safe from scary predators when his far more capable boyfriends were away.
Jace didn’t think that a life cursed to remain in the ocean was that bad.

Jack and the Heads Talk
“Call all you want, it’ll fall on dead ears.”
Roman stood tall next to the pile of handguns he’d gotten from the men at the poker table. The room smelled of cigarette smoke and leftover Italian food. The lowlight was a good way to set the mood.
“Who the hell are you? Did Fultz send you,” the man in the gray suit called, his face a little older and saggier behind his peppered jaw and scarred eye.
Roman pulled up his sleeve a bit to see the writing before taking a moment to think. “Gregory Earl, right? Or wait...you’re Thomas Miller now, right.” A finger pointed at the scarred man before seeing him lock up.
     Bingo.
“How the fuck--Who the fuck are you?”
He grinned behind the black mask that hid the lower half of his face but knew that the energy was still there. “Okay, if you’re Greg, then that makes...you Will,” he pointed to the man with the red suit, “Paul is the guy in blue, aand...,” he trailed off as he read the other names written on his arm. “Hm. One of you is Terry, the other is a Finn.” He rolled over the mental notes he made but couldn’t exactly remember.
“You’re fucking with the wrong people here, pal! Real dangerous guys in high places. All I need is a name and you’ll be--”
Roman’s gun pointed at him and that was all he needed to go silent. “I have the guns,” he said, patting the weapons again, “so I will be manning this. Now, in this list I have, three of you get the easy route. Two of you, not so much. With this in mind, I would be very careful which name you two choose to give me.”
The two looked to each other with held breaths. Roman knew that look. They were trying to figure out some way out of this. For so long, they’d been so distant from this end of the gun. Different names, different cities, different guards. It call changed so they couldn’t be tailed, so they couldn’t be judged for what they’d done. All the money and reward, none of the punishment.
That didn’t sit well with Roman, and that’s why he lived for moments like this. Men who thought they were kings far above the law being dragged down to sit in their own piss while he knocked the crowns from their heads.
What to say, what to say.
Maybe they’d try to cut a deal with him, pay him off like they had so many other people in their lives. All they saw was material value. Drugs, fancy clothes, human cargo. It all just meant money to them. It would sicken him if the payoff wasn’t so cathartic.
     “I-I-I’m Thoma-”
Three shots were fired, two going to the two that had wasted time trying to figure out a question that had been long answered, and the other going into Paul. Three bodies slumped onto the poker table while the two other men jumped and started to yell at the attacker.
      “You fucking shot-You said!”
“Do you have any IDEA the shit you just stepped in?”
“You fucker! You fucking rat! How fuckin’ dare you!”
A heavy hand gripped the poker table and threw it to the side with ease. Chips scattered across the wood floor in a race to escape what was soon to come. Money scattered, the bodies fell out of their chairs while Greg and Will jumped back and nearly tripped over their chairs.
Greg was pissed, his eyes trying to burn holes through Roman while Will tried to stay cool, calm, collected. Based off his notes, that was their partnership through the years. Greg was the wild dog that intimidated people into following while Will was the business man that took a more subtle approach.
“Enough. They got the easy route.”
Roman pressed the release on his handgun, dropping the clip before pulling the slider to pop the bullet from its chamber. He dropped the gun to the floor only to pull up his shirt and jacket to reveal two hammers tucked into his waist. One was drawn out.
“You two will have it much, much worse.”
That chilled bravado from Will soon melted away as he stepped further back until he met the wall of the cellar.
Greg’s hands shook as he made them into tiny fists.
The smile under Roman’s mask diminished. His eyes grew cold as he shifted them to the man in the gray suit.
“You want some,” Greg yelled, his legs jolting into position for a moment. “Come and get it!” He lurched forward after noticeable hesitation. He slung a right but Roman shifted back on one boot to make the hit a miss. A rapid left came high to compensate for the height difference but Roman ducked it before his hammer made a dull thud followed by some sudden cracking.
Greg screamed and fell to the ground faster than the bodies had.
Roman noticed Will gain some cowardice as he tried to run around the fight, but he was far too slow. Roman blamed their comfortable lives as he grabbed the man by the neck of his jacket and threw him to the ground.
“Okay--okay, we’ll pay, alright? Whatever you want! Whatever y--”
Another thud followed by some dull cracking. The knee was shattered and any hopes he had of running were void. Will and Greg were finally similar enough that they screamed almost the same.
“If it were up to me, I’d shatter every bone in your bodies for hours before cutting your heads off with the fire axe upstairs,” he said, grabbing Greg by the jaw to make sure he looked at him, “but I can’t kill you two. Instead, we’re going to see how close we get to that before you tell me what I need.”
Roman turned back to Will who’d stopped screaming enough to focus on his words. There was that smile again as his cold blues stared into the business man’s eyes.
      “Let’s start with you.”
Another swing of the hammer. Another scream rattled in the cellar, trapped and distant from the rest of the world. It would be the first of many.

The Angel Among Us (Cordelia X reader) part 6
Two posted in one day? what? Never heard of her. Its a short one. Like 2000 words. I considered saving this for the next chapter but I can’t  without slipping up that one and I don’t really want to at the moment. Could change later.
Warnings: Murder
Parts: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 , Part 4,  Part 5 , Part 6, Part 7 (will be added when done)
Upon heading upstairs and to the woman’s office, the three had fled. The man got enraged, claiming this was unfair. They're gone! Where would they have gone?
Michael spoke to Mead, who told him to forget about the witches and change plan.
You walked around the room getting a good whiff of the air. Your hand glided across the backing of one of the chairs located in the middle of the room. They heard the gunshots and the screams of their students dying. The two older ones rushed to the doors to lock them. Mallory complained telling her that they needed to save them but Mallory wasn’t ready.
“They teleported out of here.”
“Obviously.” Michael spat. “Where would she go?”
“This was the only place that she had. I can’t predict this.” The man huffed. “Ms Mead as a point,” you looked over at the woman. “Not like it matters but isn’t the world meant to end in flames or something. Are witches really worth your time? End the world before she can end you.” You make your move over to Cordelia’s desk chair. Now that she was gone, you could sit there. You’ve never been compelled to sit there until now. Maybe it was the hyperthecial power of it, it is only hers, the Supreme’s. You ran your finger of the grooves of the armrest. Resembling the woman towards the end of her life cycle, the arms had indents from being dug into. “Life is a game of, I don’t know chess- never played but that’s beside the point. You got all your pieces laid out and you go back an forth knocking each other’s out. Some pieces have a power to end the game if you get rid of them, but you don’t have to. There are other ways to end the game if that’s what your wish.”
“I don’t think you understand chess.”
“And now I hopefully never will.”
“You got aboard this really quickly.”
“You promise answers, something these witches couldn’t.”
To test your newfound loyalty to him, he schemed up something that would kill two birds with one stone. The two of you reached the warlock school in record speed. He refused to explain your purpose for being there until you stood outside the sculpture that hid the entrance of the underground school.
Your task was simple and if you chose to accept it would grant you a spot beside his side in the end times. “Kill them all,” was his instructions. “In the name of my father.”
You smirked, “Why not for us? Doing it for someone else seems better than for selfish reasons and I thought we needed to be as bad as possible.” The boy handed you a dagger. You removed it from it’s sheath and ran your finger along the edge of the blade. “A knife?”
“Make it a pure massacre.”
“A bloodbath,” you said chipperly. “Let’s go, Michael.”
There was no way you could fake this.
“Ladies first,” the boy said using his magic to open the door. You skipped onto the grounds. No one was guarding the entrance allowing the both of you to easily slip in. “I should warn you I’ve never killed before.”
“What about all those women- Oh~ I forgot. You’ll do fine.” What women? You shook your head and removed the knife form its cover. “You don’t need to be clean. The messier the better.”
The two of your stormed the school removing anyone who crossed your paths. At first, you had to hide your pained expressions as you had to stab the students. As time went on, it became second nature. Screams filled the air, students crying out for help. Soon you ditched the knife and used your powers figuring out tricks that Michael did and copying him.
The two of you strutted into the last room. Your joints was loose like a ragdolls. You would have toppled over by now you didn’t force yourself to finish the job.
“Who are-” The staff’s eyes shifted from you to your associate. “Michael.”
“I’ve got to thank the both of you, I wouldn’t have found my kin without the both of you,” Michael said. “I would thank the other two as well but sadly there gone. I guess you’ll have to thank them for us.”
John’s eyes flicker back to you. He analysis your face. It was Behold that said your name first, “Y/n?” it came out more of a question unsure due to you ghastly appearance.
“Bingo.” You cackled yourself to insanity. The man found you to be nothing but nice to him when he had his short stay at the school.
“The She-devil,” the other man muttered out.
“Hey! That’s mean,” you squeaked out getting up close and personal.
“You don’t kill men-”
“-I kill whomever I like.” You stabbed him in the chest. Michael made quick work of the other man.
“I warned Cordelia-” the man crocked out. You got into his face and dug the blade deeper into him.
“She’s dead. All the witches are dead-” you ripped the blade clean out of him. “and so too are you.”
You watched the man’s life fade from his eyes. Michael clapped and congratulating you on passing his test with flying colours. The man worked on his little display piece as you cleaned your blade on your skirt.
You caught a glance of yourself in the mirror, your skin paled revealing noticeable veins in your face. Eyes pitch black, covering the white of the eyes. No wonder they didn’t recognise you. The ‘you’ was gone. The colour came back into your skin and your eyes settled down by the time Michael was done with his inverted pentacle of human corpses.
“We should head home.”
“Home?”
The two of you ended up at mead’s house. The three of you rested at Meads dinner table. In the short time you were there you’d gotten along well with the woman which shocked you since she was a Satanist and that went against everything you had stood for… You guess a lot had changed today. You spent half an hour in her bathroom reliving what you had done. Crying didn’t solve your problems. You didn’t cry because of what you had done, you cried because you enjoyed it. You wanted your old life back and if you had the chance, which you were well aware you didn’t, you would have to burn for your sins. You played your part, slowly loosing yourself in the act.
Mead ended up suggesting going to the men that rebuilt her after all of Michael’s terrible ideas of how to end the world including the plot of omen 3.
You asked about these men she spoke of, and Michael filled you in about these two coke heads with bad hair that ran a robotics company. You said you wouldn’t mind meeting the men who played god by creating a replication of a life. Worse case, you waste a day. You asked Mead to call them up and telling them you were heading right over. You grabbed Michaels and asked him where it was located. A second later you were outside a tall white building with the company’s logo pasted up the top. “Not bad,” he complemented. You told him you would stay by his side and make sure he didn’t accept any stupid ideas and just introduce her as a business partner or something.
The men hand him a list of names and all of them were members of the Cooperative which was really the Illuminati but with a new name. All members had they've sold their soul to the devil and therefore, Michael controls them. Jeff and Mutt encourage him to use nuclear weapons to end the world, You second the idea. Michael agreed but only if it'll also destroy the witches. Jeff and Mutt reassured him that it will, but he needs to talk to the Cooperative first.
“Will it kill them?” Michael asked you. You had stolen one of the desk chairs and you were now playing with a robot part. You looked at them like they asked you’re the stupidest question on earth.
“They’re human, of course nuclear bombs will kill them.” You wouldn’t allow it; you’ll find them before the bombs go off and save them. Then you can warn them of what’s to come.
The idea for the end of the world was simple, a few hotspots full of people will be saves. The richest of the rich, and some others to help work. But all, the best in their fields. Michael placed you in charge keeping Jeff and Mutt in line as well as overseeing the project. You had managed to gain the antichrists trust by then.
You sat in the corner of their lab reading one of their occupant leaders strange requests. “God this woman is a riot,” you chuckled to yourself.
The clicking of heels signified the entrance of their secretary/Human resources person along with everything else important. For someone who walked with a can, she was quiet with it, her heals made more noise than it did.
You never bothered to turn around and look at her, too busy working to care about the likes of her. Your back was always facing her, so she never got a good look at you either. She gathered you worked there now even though it was never passed through her. One day you didn’t work here and now you did. The men the woman worked for acted like you’ve been there for years, they didn’t even call you by your name anymore but by an assortment of nicknames, none of which you were fond of.
“Thanks Ms Venable. Oh, that minds me, you will receive an email about the purchases for outpost… which one again?”
“3 and 4,” you answered.
“Yes, 3 and 4 by the end of the day, we need to you place the orders today before you leave.”
“Can you also order some cigarettes? I’m out. Order a lot please.”
“Is that all?” The woman was dismissed.
“Wait? Is that Venable?” You spun around to see the woman, but she was already gone. “You gave your secretary a job as outpost leader?”
“That or she would quit.” You nodded before going back to work.
“Hmm~” After sending your email, you decided to go one break. You groaned, your eyes aching from the constant strain they’d been forced to endure. You tossed your glasses of your head and rubbed your eyes furiously. “Stupid piece of shit doesn’t even work,” your eyes were better off without the stupid eyewear. It was probably time for a new pair you thought. You swung your chair around notifying the two you were popping out for a bit. One of them men notified you that a packet of cigarettes had been brought up for you. They tossed it to you as you walked towards the back exit.
When you returned you noticed a change in the air immediately. A presence that didn’t belong here entered when you were gone. Light. “Did you two have client while I was out?”
“No. We did however get four tickets bought for outpost 3.” You hummed, walking up to the board to see who bought it. St. Pierre Vanderbilt. Oh, those witches, they are good.
“All good. This works with my order. Everything’s good.” You were happy at the knowledge that at least one of your students was alive.
