The game treats a Dark Urge warlock like they remember who their magic comes from, but I think it's way funnier for Estryd if she doesn't even remember she can do magic until that first fight.
And for the longest time she just assumes it's like this innate ability she has because she can't remember anything except her name. Then Gale mentions offhandedly that she's a warlock (because based on his intro conversation about Wyll he can just?? Tell??? based on how people do their spells?) and Estryd is extremely confused and worried because, oh great, now there's another weird supernatural being in the mix.
Also the concept of knowing you made a pact with something but you're not sure who, and you're not sure what you had to give them in exchange? Love that.

I don't have the capacity to read this whole article but I just discovered that for some reason it talks about CUM VILLAIN?!2?!)$! WHY DBWKDNK???
Tumblr media
I'm just so baffled on why a. They chose scum villain when we're like . A single droplet in the fandom ocean. We have a fraction of a fraction of the influence of literally our next door most adjacent fandoms. The vast majority of people here are also fully grown adults with academic experience . This is not their first rodeo
b. SHEN JIU??? the guy who . NEVER is in a position to talk directly to the viewer because he fucking DIES BEFORE THE STORY STARTS???? This is especially funny to me because I'm not sure if they read the books at all but they mention Shen Yuan... You know ... Shen Jiu's biggest anti?? The guy who narrates the entire story and hates shen jiu's guts???? The one who is so explicitly clear on how much he hates the guy's child abuse that he literally rewrites a whole universe ??? That's the main plot?! Does. Does the author know that the Shen Qingqiu of scum villain's main story is quite literally an entirely different person than the "scum villain" Shen Qingqiu. This is. This is part of the main summary . You can't miss this. Shen Qingqiu is only ever portrayed as the hero because the one we follow is Shen Yuan.. Shen Jiu is most certainly not. How do you turn "this character had a sympathetic backstory literally 80% into the main story that was only fully elaborated on in the completely optional extras" into the audience eats up his child abuse ?!3)2;
c. WHY SCUM VILLAIN?? like .. the book that specifically forces its readers to think critically by blurring the lines between "villain" and "protagonist", doing everything it can to push people out of their surface level character analysis comfort zone that marks "protag" as "good" and "antag" as "bad"..? That to assign cookie cutter roles to complex characters is reductive and shows an arrogance that can lead you to completely misinterpreting a text?? Did you just pick it because it has villain in the title ?!)3 low hanging fruit???
Idk I didn't read the whole thing so maybe I'm wrong but I just saw this on the tl and thought it was baffling 😭 like why are we always misrepresented in journalism haven't we suffered enough after not having any official content for literally one of the main side characters for 7 entire years LMFAOO

August recs
Okay, I've got a handful of miscellaneous recs, and then ten recs for Victoria Goddard's Nine Worlds series, which I'm putting under a cut because at least two of you I know are still reading and the recs are full of spoilers for At the Feet of the Sun. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
MISC
The Long Way Home by itsnatalie (DCU, gen)
With Jason tentatively back in the Batfamily, things are going pretty well for him--except for the whole thing with Tim. But who gives a shit about Tim Drake? But when Jason and Tim are pulled into a frightening race for their lives inside a labyrinth that's out to kill them, they may have to look past their differences just to stay alive. Maybe along the way, they'll discover they aren't as different as they thought, and family comes in many different forms.
Spectacular in every aspect: the horror, the action, the hurt/comfort, the brotherly devotion underlying their swarm of issues, and the ending. I really can't rec this one highly enough.
Late Night, North Station by raitala (Untamed, Wangxian)
Lan Zhan finds A-Yuan lost in the railway station. He maybe finds more than he bargained for. Some mornings you leave for the office and come back with a son (and possibly a husband too).
Sooooo sweet, with a lovely autistic LWJ POV. The sequel is still a WIP but is great so far.
Beginning at the End by WerewolvesAreReal (Temeraire, Granby/Little)
In many ways it seems that John's life revolves around William Laurence.
Lovely character study trilogy with Granby sorting out his unrequited thing for Laurence and his ongoing thing with Little.
thou, who art victory and law by The_Apocryphal_One (Goblin Emperor, Csethiro/Maia)
He couldn’t help his unintelligence, any more than she could help her father. And he was kind. She should try to remember that. (Or: Csethiro Ceredin goes into her betrothal to Emperor Edrehasivar VII with assumptions, and has every one of them challenged.)
Great Csethiro POV as she works through her pride and preconceptions.
NINE WORLDS
Embers by alfgifu
Kip Mdang returns to Solaara, hardly confident that the Imperial Service will take him back but sure that there is no place for him in the Vangavaye-ve. The City of Cities is still expanding from the backwater village it was before the Fall; the work of reconstruction continues but it is no longer a simple crisis. In the Palace the big political beasts are circling for position under the newly awakened Emperor. Despondent and determined to bury himself in work, Cliopher finds his former patron disapproving and the new Master of Offices openly hostile. But he is still a fifth degree secretary, and some problems are easier to solve when you feel that you have little left to lose… and don't care which enemies you make along the way.
Amazing!!! Basically a novel-length series digging into the difficult period between Kip returning and Kip becoming the Hands of the Emperor, with tons of bureaucracy and corruption and competence porn and of course, his devotion to His Radiancy and building a better government. Also features wonderful OCs, worldbuilding, a really horrifying bit of magic, some unexpected allies, humor, and Kip being just a really lovely (and determined, and traumatized) person.
thank you!!! no walnuts!!! by mage-pie
Pikabe has fucked over his army career (and maybe his whole life) by refusing illegal orders to commit a war crime and kinda sorta leading a mutiny (he was cleared of wrongdoing, but still, mutiny). He’s been shuffled out of the way to some random base where everyone gives him the side-eye (because mutiny) and he’s never going to see anyone from his old unit ever again. (Which doesn’t matter, his former lieutenant’s also-fucked-over life is none of his business, whatever, it’s fine it’s fine.) Then he gets a mysterious package and a mysterious Solaaran visitor who might have an idea about turning things around (a suggestion, even).
Fun possible backstory for Pikabe; part of a series that I haven't read in full yet but it stands alone.
Signals by Penguinity
Kiri cleared her throat, and the secretaries looked up as one. She waved the letters in one hand. “The stack in the second pigeonhole, what sort of letters are these?” “The ones from people who aren’t crackpots, but don’t need help from our office.” Cliopher nodded, satisfied. “Indeed, well-sorted.” Kiri held up a finger to silence him. “And?” There was a brief pause, before Gaudy gave an almost inaudible sigh and answered. “And who are flirting with Lord Mdang.”
SO funny, featuring the junior secretaries and Kip's ace obliviousness.
A Good Man by Quasar
It takes a while, but eventually Masseo discovers why a man with no name got saddled with a family curse.
Brilliant little premise run off that line about how Ludvic violating the Emperor's taboos would curse his whole family.
One Bed Too Many by white_hart
They slept beside each other on the deck of the vaha, and in a nest of cushions in the solarium, but this is the first time there's been a bed. In fact, there are two.
Sweet immediately-post-ATFOTS fic with them negotiating physical intimacy.
Five People Who Were Surprised The Next Time They Met Cliopher by Quasar
Five people who were astonished when they met Cliopher after the events of At The Feet Of The Sun.
What it says on the tin! A fun collection of people, culminating in Pali and Kip figuring out a detente.
Thrive in the Sun by electropeach
A day in the retired life of Cliopher Mdang: the sun, the sea, the wind, his fanoa… and a cousin baking up a storm in his kitchen. (Alternately titled "Enya Hears About Sardeet")
Immensely soft and funny series, with just a dash of feels about Fitzroy's tragic childhood.
The Tanà’s Day Off by rattyjol
Kip takes the day off. Fitzroy fills in.
In which they are so so cute and extremely married.
Homing by oliviacirce
Homing, adj., (1) having a natural ability to find the way home from a long distance away, (2) guiding or directing homeward; v., (1) to aim at something and move quickly and directly toward it
More on the theme of Kip and Fitzroy figuring out their asexual/allosexual relationship, with an assist from the retirement house squad. Lovely and domestic.
Kip Thistlethwaite by alfgifu
His tone was light on the offer itself, despite the sturdiness of his declaration of identity. She could refuse him with no embarrassment to either of them, turning this into a joke that they could laugh over with Basil later in the evening - but - but - those steady brown eyes were serious. “A marriage of convenience?” she said, equally lightly, “how gallant, sirrah.”
I am going absolutely feral waiting for more of this delightful series, in which Kip happens to be visiting Basil when Jullanar is blackmailed, and offers himself as an alternative. The second story deals with the Emperor finding out that his secretary is indeed married to THAT Jullanar.

So I know your vessel OC, Moss is kind of a "they could technically be in the AU but it's more of an idea" kinda character, but how does that work with the timeline? Would they have simply gone out of the Abyss way later, or would they have wandered like Ghost did until Sheo and Nailmasters found them?
I can't remember what it was exactly that made me realize the timelines don't match, but there was a point where I was like "no, that doesn't work". Maybe it wasn't important if I can't remember it? Wouldn't be surprised hahaha.
The backstory I had in mind for Moss was that they were very late to climb out of the Abyss, so late that they haven't actually experienced the infection. Perhaps the void egg they hatched from was dormant for many years for whatever reason, and when it finally hatched, they were the only one of the vessels inside it to survive.
So they climbed out and wandered until they were found by Sheo in Greenpath. He took them in and raised them, and that is when they discovered their love for painting. The timeline here is important, since by the time Sheo found them, he already met Ghost, which also means Ghost and Moss have never seen each other.
I think what made me not include them in the FPK AU was that I wanted them to be fully grown up at the current time? Which wouldn't match up ideally with the FPK AU timeline.
FPK reunites with his family in Dirtmouth a few weeks/about a month after his hibernation ended, which was very close to when The Radiance was defeated (days apart at most, Ghost didn't waste any time).
Timeline wise, I think looking at Grimm and FPK's kids is the best way to illustrate it. Lewk was born about 5 years after FPK and Grimm reunited (after 3 years of trying). Around a year and a half later, they decided to have another child, and about 3 months later Asta and Milo were born. At the current point of the AU, the twins are 2 months old, and Lewk is 2 years old. So that means the timeline is "frozen" at about 6-7 years after FPK woke up from hibernation and the infection ended.
Of course, this is a rough estimate, not including random factors like Grimm taking longer to return home after a ritual, or him prolonging his body's lifespan by drinking blood etc. But for the sake of simplicity, I think 7 years is what I'm going with.
So that would mean that Moss has fully grown up in the span of those 7 years. It's possible, if you assume vessels grow fast, but in my AU timeline it took Holly between 10-15 years to reach their full size, so quite a bit of difference. Of course, Moss is much shorter, so in theory they could've reached their full size faster. But would 7 years be enough? I'm not sure. Maybe?
Of course, if they were in the FPK AU, maybe they just wouldn't be fully grown yet. That would be a simple way to solve it. Or maybe they did just grow up really fast for a vessel.
You know, when I lay it all down like this, I suppose making them part of the FPK AU wouldn't be that unreasonable. No idea what made me decide otherwise before, perhaps something changed in the timeline since then, who knows. That's the downside of making it all up as I go.
I'll have to think about it, maybe I'll change my mind and include them. They'd be a minor character either way, so it's not like that would make a big difference.

Hey, there! I haven't been on Tumblr in a long while, but I'm thinking about trying again (irrelevant, but anyway, I've always loved your art and thoughts on J). I'm a J self-shipper💜 I've always liked a softer characterization of him, but I understand the darker ones to a degree. Imo soft J is the best J🤭
I wanted to ask you something, if you're comfortable (kinda nsfw about J). Or just any headcanons you have related to this.
So J is my first f/o (I've been technically self-shipping for years as a child but I just thought others would find me weird so I kept my feelings for fictional characters to myself. I was relieved when I discovered self-shipping). I self-ship with him romantically. We met three years ago and have been together for two years (we actually celebrated our second year earlier in August!) I trust him completely (I know😅) especially when it comes to things like this. That's just backstory/context if necessary (Also, I haven't gushed in forever, so😅 sorry)
I have very little relationship experience so J has been a lot of "firsts" for me, which he knows. I turned 18 about 3-4 months ago (dude, adulting sucks). So... then this little thought wouldn't leave me alone... Again, some preface, I've always believed in trying to save myself for marriage (that's just my beliefs, everybody has theirs).
I've wondered how J would react to that or how he might feel about me (or someone he's romantically involved with) telling him I'd prefer to wait for marriage. (I personally headcanon that he could get married if he wanted - although he's slightly more resistant to it - it is possible for him. But that's just me.) Sometimes I imagine him rolling his eyes or snorting and making some comment like "Think ya can, uh... resist me that long, toots?" (I'm trying to, but you make it difficult sometimes-) and the suggestive eyebrows, you know he'd do that, or something similar, but I'm not really sure. He's a tease in every sense of the word, so I could see that too. Especially because I'm shyer about these things (he playfully pushes some boundaries but never ever crosses them.) He says things, lightly suggests things, etc. to make me blush but it usually never goes farther than that (although one time he lightly patted my thigh and I shuddered but I know he didn't necessarily mean anything by it). I'm always curious about what he would think or say if I told him.
So, if you're comfortable, I was wondering about any input or thoughts you had about J reacting to that.
Heya!!
Thank you so much, that means a lot to me! I know I don't post a lot on here (I spend most of my time on Instagram) but I've been wanting to post more often so we'll see how that goes. Especially with writing, I have quite a few things in the works🕺(Been that way for over a year now lol)
Of course I'm comfortable with asks, even NSFW, I'm here for it!! Asks, requests, tags, all that good stuff doesn't bother me in the slightest😁 I get excited! I’m just shy and have social anxiety, but please don’t ever mistake it for me being annoyed or anything. If anything I feel like I'm the one bothering people XD
Now onto your question! (Oh and NSFW warning even though it was in the ask but shhh I gotta say it too)
Honestly...I think you already got down my exact thoughts lmao. J would totally tease, making little comments like that. "What's the matterrr darlin'? Does it...scare ya, is that i-t? Aww little bunny, I promise to be gentle~"
I also think he'd be genuinely confused about that "wait til marriage" mindset. What's the point of waitin' around so long? Why does wearing a silly ring suddenly indicate you're only now allowed to do the old devil's tango with your lover? Don't get him wrong, he'd try to understand because he loves ya enough to try. And of course he'd respect your boundaries...
That doesn't mean he wouldn't try to change your mind though (in gentle, teasing ways as you said). However, if it ever becomes too much and you're firm on a "no" and "stop" he'll definitely tone it down and even back the comments and playful gestures off entirely if he needs to. He would never want to cross boundaries and make his bunny uncomfortable. And do not be afraid to tell him no! He wants your complete honesty and trust, he'd never betray that and would never force you into anything.
But ohhh boy if you end up deciding to try it before marriage, at all for that matter...you best believe what an honor it would be for J to be the one to take your V-card😏 He’d gladly teach ya the ropes🤭
Anywhooooo, thank you for the ask anon, it was "*Silco's voice* a lovely surprise," hope that answered the question if it didn't I'm sorry, I'm still kinda new to this and I dunno what I'm doing lmao

FotW: SDMI - The Secret of the Ghost Rig
Ghost Trucks! Welcome back to Freak of the Week, we continue with Mystery Incorporated and find ourselves with a trope that Scooby-Doo only did a few times before - one of which had the Mystery Machine itself be the self-driving ghoul of the week!
Best demonstrated in Maximum Overdrive, and by a lesser extent the Cars Franchise, we sure do love to think of trucks and other vehicles as "alive". Even outside our Christines and Speed-Buggeys, it's just fun to think of these big and highly destruction-prone things as having their own souls.
Tumblr media
Backstory: After their tryst in Gatorsburg, the Mystery Gang finds themselves in the middle of the mayor's - Fred's dad - re-election campaign. His rival being a Mr. George Avocados. Mr. Avocados runs despite the fact that his father, a previous Mayor of Crystal Cove, was sentenced to prison for stealing a diamond during his turn - one that was never found.
Tumblr media
Daphne's parents also take the time to try and matchmake with their daughter. Despite hooking her up with the heir of a ladder company, the rich boy hits it off better with Freddie than Daphne. This won't be the last time you'll have to worry about your boyfriend's budding bisexuality Daph, remember - if you can't beat them, join them.
Anyway, while all this is happening the gang must also deal with a Ghost Truck running rampant through the town and a string of door-knob robberies. The gang then decide to trap the entire truck after a little encouragement from Mr. E.
Tumblr media
Design: The Ghost Truck is exactly what it says on the tin. It's a luminous Big Rig that's heavily weathered, every inch rusted over, with a transparent green algae of sorts draped over its entire body. It has additional spikes added to the front, alongside an entire spike pronged cage attached to its bumper. This 10-wheeler, when active, also has flaming wheels and headlights so bright that it even lights up the driver's seating area.
Off-topic, but why does google images refuse to show me any actual 10-wheelers if they aren't from Dora the Explorah.
For something as simple as "Ghost Truck", they went all out on making it a memorable, and very formidable being. This metal beast actively tries to run anyone in its way off the numerous cliffs near the cove. It is out of luck that more people haven't been killed by this guy. The only downside is that the Trucker's motives are so focused on, we never even get any lore regarding the truck itself.
One way I could fix this would be to have Senior Avocados dead rather in jail, not like this show is all against people getting Disney Villain Death'ed already. Have him try to escape the police in a truck he stole, ending the chase with him driving it off the cliffside to an unseen demise. This would tie all the plot points together in a way that'd make the "Ghost" part of the monster's name make sense.
Just because it's glowing doesn't mean it's dead guys!
Tumblr media
Reveal: The gang survives enough attempted murders to find the truck's hideout, discovering an entire secret video game level cave filled to the brim with doorknobs. Specifically crystal doorknobs. They find a journal belonging to Avocados' father, where he reveals that he did in fact steal the diamond and hidden it before being caught by the pigs.
It's only after chasing the gang for finding it's cave that the truck is lured into Fred's shark tank trap. And to avoid giving the meddling kids a manslaughter charge, the driver of the truck hops out on his own volition.
Tumblr media
It's Rung Ladderton, heir to the Ladderton Ladder Company and Fred's Daphne's suitor. Turns out that rich people don't like the fact that usable products are less likely to be replaced, and thus, they don't get enough constant revenue to satisfy their lifestyles. Yeah, he says he's broke, but let's be real - that just means he needs to get his fancy ascots from a company that only has 200 active sweatshops rather that 20,000.
Tumblr media
Rung Ladderton admits that he was stealing all the doorknobs because Avocados Senior replaced one of them with the diamond. However, there was no hint towards which doorknob it was - so Rung Ladderton had to steal all of them, using the Ghost Rig to smuggle them out of town.
We are only a few years away before a new Scooby-Doo show has a villain be a crypto dude trying to rob people while wearing a gorilla suit.
4/5 - Very simple concept with great execution.
If Rung Ladderton was well-endowed, do you think he'd be called Hu-

I find it almost ironic, in a positive way, how hostile and abusive you made Ivors mentor although villagers are notorious for their passive and peaceful demeanor.
It fits, oddly enough! In a physical sense they never hit back or hurt someone with the intent to hurt them. iirc in the Archillager Novel (official) the villagers are peaceful in means that they don't fight, but they do defend themselves and the CAN be VERBALY hostile. They might never pick up a weapon, but they sure can use their words to bully. They are avid gossipers too, as they are in game (reputation system spreading over multiple villages), so they CAN absolutely gnaw and destroy someones image or self-esteem.
They'd never attack physically, but they surely can be viscious to ones mentality.
At first I tilted my head at you making Ivors mentor a villager, a cleric, (unless I misremember), so hostile and abusing, but in hindsight it actually makes so much sense. Mental abuse goes below the skin down to the soul.
ANONYMOUS SENT AN ASK .
Tumblr media
boi when i tell you i thought this was hate when i saw the word ironic, you almost got the biggest clapback of all time 💀
but no, no thank you very much! to be honest i had no idea the book was made and i knew that villagers don't fight back in-game but i know that that's just game mechanics. game mechanics don't necessarily have to be canon, as there's no way every single villager is going to have the exact same personality and act the same way in a realistic scenario. so i figured making a villager an extreme piece of shit would be plausible, even if they were a cleric. just because they're someone of religious stature does NOT mean they have to be nice. i mean, look at what the church did to people back in actual medieval history 💀
i haven't exactly worked out the entirety of his mentor's backstory. just that he's an alchemist in a very, very small plains village and provides all the people with his potions. he was the best one in the world and ivor's parents sent him a letter and gave him their life savings so that ivor could be taught alchemy. in turn, he became the best and overshadowed his mentor. the whole story is in my about page if you wanna read it, but i haven't dug too deep into the mentor himself. mainly because i'm searching for someone who will role play as him and dig into him with me so we can make ivor's backstory even more fleshed out together while his mentor becomes their oc. it's the BIGGEST fucking thing on my wishlist, fr.
i mean, technically his mentor could be a human? but i just felt like it would make more sense for it to be a villager. the villagers are the indigenous tribes of the story and hold a lot of history to them. ivor is very, very into the history of the world and what has happened in it, who has done what, what has been discovered. plus, his garb isn't AT ALL like the other order's; it's very old-looking even for mcsm terms. so i figured it would make a lot more sense to put him into a village. that way his craving for history, knowledge, and his vibe makes more sense.
it could have also been an illager? but that would mean it would have to be a witch. and ivor isn't really to big on witches.

I haven't gotten to play chapter 5 yet, I just wanted a chance to gush. There's a lot of lore and I cannot wait to find out more about the Nightmarket! But first, some love to the characters because they're really special.
Oh I adore Milo and Hazel, I really do, I think their familial friendship is sweet and I love to pal around with them. I love Hazel. I would die for Hazel. I want the best for her. And I barely wanna talk about Milo, he sets off my cute aggression so bad. I wanna put him in a jar and rattle him around.
Theres something about Belladonna and Gabriel's contentious, tension riddled back and forth is very compelling. I felt like a tiny sandcastle wall between two opposing forces and it was hilarious. And debilitating. "Make sure to stay between them" hazel I love you, but you've sent me out to the Frontline. I will perish.
I didn't know what to think of Belladonna at first but, funny enough her hating birds really endeared me to her. That's so funny. Her perfect beauty intimidated me, so having such a normal fear to birds of all things made her feel closer to touch, if that makes sense.
And Gabriel!! He's very fascinating, I desperately want to know why he's clinging to the Order of things when we all can see how bad things are. Rotating him in my mind like a rotisserie chicken. I wanna bite his cheek and annoy him.
There's no one I dislike, they're all very charming in their ways, I've enjoyed replaying and going through their individual paths.
Yes yes yes! I am thrilled to hear this. All of these characters have such intricate backstories. Each of them have lived such big lives before the MC. I want them to feel real. I want them to have conflict with each other. With their past. With the world around them. When I started writing this I had a need to make a story where all these characters continued to feel like they existed even when the MC was not around. I wanted there to be things about them that you had to discover and that in some ways, you help them all come to terms with. I have dreams of being able to write a Paper Lanterns situation for each of them, telling important parts of their lives. One day, hopefully.
Thank you so much for the gush post. Not only does this fuel the creative drive, but it also lets me know that what I'm writing is translating to all of you. I am so very excited to continue this story and see where these characters all end up. I see many more books in the Night Market future.

New Caleb au coming to my mind. Sorry I haven't been posting my own stuff recently. I've just struggled with motivation and all.
Spoilers for The Owl House if you haven't watched season 1 and 2.
Basically, a Peter Pan Caleb au, where Caleb became Peter Pan.
The classic story of Peter pan comes later, as Caleb never grows up anyway.
When Caleb decides to stay in the isles with Evelyn, the Isles inhabitants don't really respond to him very positively. They demand some sort of justice for his past witch hunting. Maybe he was really into it and bad before changing when meeting Evelyn. Maybe he wasn't. Whatever happened back then, however he felt, witches want to have him punished for it. So, they have a trial. In this trial, Caleb is decided to be guilty of some bad crimes. Caleb takes this all without fuss. He feels himself that he deserves it. What's the punishment?
Caleb gets sent to this God. A collector or something similar perhaps. Maybe the guardian from amphibia? The idea of the punishment is that they bring him to this God who will determine the proper course of action. They expect that action to be a punishment and way of redemption. The god looks into all of his past actions like that demon that flicks through books fast.
That God is like, yeah, he was pretty bad once. But, now he isn't. In fact, he was robbed of a childhood and everything. You know what people? I'm making him a LITERAL GOD.
People are shocked. But, this God is trusted by most if not all. Caleb isn't sure how to react.
The God makes him young, and gives him his Peter pan outfit, or something similar, cause he could make it later. The God announces that he is to be called Peter from now on to signify his change for the better in the isles.
Pan comes later, when he starts using a pan flute.
Evelyn and Caleb in this au never really had a romantic relationship anyway. With Calebs powers and training to use them hes not around her much either so their friendship fades. He feels more free and acts like a child. He thinks like a child.
Tinkerbell he meets later. If his flight comes from tinkerbell, as I'm still learning about Peter pan, it would turn out it didn't originally actually. The God gave it to him. Also, any other powers came from becoming a god. Like I think he might be able to mind read in the play.
His backstory he gives in the Peter pan stories isn't actually true. They are false memories built by his real memories mixing together and being modified. Part of his godness causes this memory changing, so that he never remembers more time than maybe about 4 times his physical age. Which is about 11. Anything else is just undesipherable flickers he misinterprets. (Just enough to remember Wendy.)
Neverland is a specific realm that is connected to Caleb's powers and follows his wants, for the most part. Straight on to the 2nd star to the right is really where an invisible tear in the realms is. He wants adventure? It creates captain hook and the pirates to fight. He wants a cool outdoor place? That's why it's an island. He hears of stories about fairies that arent like the isles fairies? Now they are real. The lost boys he actually found the same way he says he did though. That's why it's said Neverland comes to life when he returns.
Originally Caleb didn't have Peter pans flaws, however he had others. He shifted over time in personality due to the memory loss, like generations of a group of people and their culture.
His shadow moving on its own is one of his powers, designed to give him the ability to send it away as a scout. However, due to his now childish nature and time, his relationship with his shadow isn't good in the Peter pan story. It originally was good.
Similar to his entry into Wendy's house, when looking for his shadow, Caleb sneaks into Philips cave. (He had no clue philip found out about his relationship with Evelyn and followed. He just discovered he was there.) Philip and his reunion is odd. Maybe it's similar to the memory paintings, but it's not quite. He flys around a lot. He's also not sure how to handle the situation, especially since he lost maturity from the spell so that he would represent childhood.
Caleb's Peter pan in this isn't secretly crazy or evil. The story plot is like a mix between the play, musical, other play adaptations, and the movies. (The early versions of the story are bad in certain ways. The isles were quite good, and that hasnt left him, so the classics plot has none of that.)
The reason Peter pan has elf/witch ears is because his ears slowly changed to reflect his magical nature.
He's friends with the collector. The Collector just happens to be a child god however, whereas he's the god of childhood, so the collector will outgrow him eventually. He finds the collector and frees him by stealing Philips notes. He's friends with that stonesleeper actually, but he forgot about it when it fell asleep for 50 or so years somewhere on neverland, and in the most recent happenings, has yet to wake up. The Collector goes off somewhere in space to do what he wants. (Caleb kept him from destroying or hurting the isles.) Philip never becomes Belos.
It's mentioned in some sources that Peter pan has nightmares from his suppressed memories. That's true for Caleb Peter. He has nightmares about losing Evelyn, others, losing Philip, Philip, and his Gravesfield trauma.
Philips attempts to kill witches and that whole situation is a whole other can of worms that I will unpack later.
He looks like Disney Peter but with Caleb's face and hair, and owl house artstyle. He has disney Peter's ears.
He meets Luz and takes her to neverland. No crush is involved to be clear. Luz just wanted to get put of camp. Hunter does exist, but he's Luz's brother and looks different because he's related to her. He doesn't come to Neverland. He has no idea where Luz went.
The clawthorns like Eda and Lilith exist but they just look different as Evelyn had a different husband.
Neverland is the demon realm inspired. Caleb also still remembers the demon realm and uses the portal door, which he created, to go there often. He introduces Luz to the demon realm where due to his carelessness Luz gets lost and meets King and Eda. Somehow they still become family. Caleb joins in that family but insists on never growing up.
Caleb can't remember that kings a titan so they have no idea.
The owl deity theory could have the owl deity be that God that made him a god.
Caleb is immortal. He will not die.
Any ideas to add to this au? Also,

Anime Talk - Bungou Stray Dogs
I've been thinking a lot on what to do for my anime post this month. I'm still not sure I have settled, but let's pretend I have.
Now, about Bungou Stray Dogs: Do you know what it is? If not, go watch it and find out. The 4th season just started and I have just finished watching the 3rd episode. It's good. I have already watched 3 seasons of it, so of course I think so.
It's not like I have anything interesting to talk about regarding this anime to be perfectly honest. I just love it and want to talk about it. Especially now.
In case you haven't seen it yet, I can reveal that the first 3 episode of season 2, 3 and 4 all contain some backstory on the characters. My friend had told me who were up to have their backstory revealed this season, but I somehow forgot that. I don't know how that happened. I mean, one of the characters is my favorite character in the series, Edogawa Ranpo.
Why is he my favorite?
It started with tiny reasons. For one thing, the character's Japanese VA is someone who's voice I have heard a lot in other series, so I was naturally interested because of that. Furthermore, the real Edogawa Ranpo was a mystery novel author who created Akechi Kogoro and the Fiend With Twenty Faces. (There is an anime called TRICKSTER that uses these characters among others of his creation, which I watched before this one and absolutely love.)
That's what made me pay him attention to Edogawa RAnpo in Bungou Stray Dogs. Then I discovered how good he is a deduction, how he loves sweets, how quirky he is, and did I mention that he's the absolute closest thing to a detective in that series and he is brilliant?
I'm trying not to be biassed or anything, but honestly, I think the episodes where he is featured and really gets to do things are my favorite episodes of that whole series. The 3 opening episodes of season four could easily take the top spot.
I could talk about Ranpo for a while longer, but that would mean I would accidentally spoil things, so let's get back to the original topic.
In general, Bundou Stray Dogs is a really good series. I don't care that much for the protagonist, Nakajima Atsushi, but I care a lot for the majority of the other characters.
Also, seeing as all the characters are based off of famous Japanese authors, it has made reading texts by these authors in class really interesting. Last year, we read a text written by Fukuzawa and one written by Mori. I think there should be more in the coming semester, but I don't remember at the moment and can't be bothered to check. Unfortunately, I highly doubt I'll get the oppertunity to read something by Edogawa Ranpo, so I'll probably have to find one for myself someday.
Okay, enough talking before I go off on one again. Thank you for reading.
Have you watched Bungou Stray Dogs? If you have, what did you think? Who is your favorite character?

for the secrets ask game--mira, for all six, if you want? :D @kerra-and-company
Congrats on nailing exactly which one of my characters would be full of secrets! Mira Silvertail is a goddamn mess of a cat.
(Before we start, I'm gonna add some Actual Backstory things for Mira, since I'm pretty sure my character page is lacking - She's a ranger, and the legionnaire of the Silver warband, and part of Iron. There are also three versions of her that I've thought about and developed in relation to the other members of her warband - each in different timelines, two of which have died in pretty traumatic ways - so I'm gonna focus on the third, surviving one, but all versions of her struggle with the warring loyalties between her warband and her legion.)
(Here, she was kidnapped in LWS1 by aetherblades and sold/given to the inquest as a test subject. Or that was the intention, had the airship not crashed in the Sandswept Isles.)
(There's also a decent bit of charr politics/circumstances in the background affecting this mentality majorly, and intersecting with other charr of mine, namely Ryker, which I'm gonna write up eventually but haven't quite gotten around to yet - I may touch on some of that in here but not go into detail)
(...also slipped into more prose rather than listing. whoops. enjoy!)
1- An Open Secret Charr don't have parents. They have sires, and dams, and they're not supposed to be something that matters.
Except in all of the ways that it does. Charr are also hypocrites. There are few charr who don't know the identities of at least one of their parents, whether from old memories, from their own digging, or from other charr bringing it up, whether to commend, or threaten, or compare. Socially, they're not supposed to admit it, and so Mira never has. But if she happens to be at the Junker's Scrapyard more often than she has proper excuses for, only ever talking to one of the many charr working there, both of them with an uncanny resemblance to one another - Well, that's her business, isn't it?
2 - A secret the people close to your character know Of her warband, she was the first one to learn magic.
She didn't end up the most powerful, or the one who used it most often - That would go to Cadira (though she'd never admit it to his already big head) and Vachel (even if he won't say so, but most of his movement is, quite frankly, physically impossible), respectively. But she was the first to discover it, first to realise it, little feet so drawn to the river and feeding the birds hovering around it, when they would've scattered for anyone else, and one day, gently coaxing health into an eagle's tattered wing with motes of soft green.
She might not be the strongest ranger, but she opened the gate for her warband to explore their own magics - and what she can do is enough. Just enough.
3 - A secret that your character wouldn't really care about getting out She wasn't supposed to be legionnaire.
On paper, that would've, and should've, gone to Nasius - Nasius was by far the better engineer, the better tactician, the better people person. They would've been the perfect choice, if not for the fact that they never wanted to lead. Nevermind that their warband wasn't anywhere near high enough rank to be doing anything important. Nasius actually gathered the warband together at one point and admitted that she didn't want to be in charge. Inexplicably, she nominated Mira. The rest followed.
Looking back, it made sense - of them all, who was the most used to pressure? Who was the one least wrapped up in their own head? She was certainly bossy enough. They all trusted each other - they had to - but especially in this, they trusted Nasius, and trusted in Mira.
Hasn't failed them yet, here.
4 - A secret exactly one person knows anything about. She has nightmares, after being kidnapped.
Not of the actual kidnapping - that would've been understandable, even if she was unconscious for the majority of it - but something about the near-death experience made her drown in dark, deathly detailed dreams, and each morning felt like breaching the surface again.
Awful dreams, sometimes about sending her family warband to their deaths. Awful dreams, sometimes about alternate paths and missions gone awry, about events that had never happened and never would. Sometimes, only memories. Dreams of the Citadel. Dreams of the fahrar.
Relken, the healer who found and hosted her after the crash, is the only one witness to her mumbled sleeptalking, and the brief moments upon waking before she pulls herself together. Sometimes, they can coax her into sharing them. It's a slow process.
5 - A secret nobody knows about, but they desperately want to tell. Mira claims she wants to go back. But she doesn't know whether she actually wants to go back or not. The Olmakhan are... peaceful, and that's nice, for the most part, but it's just nice. She just can't stand the mundanity.
(But the more time she spends away, the more she sees how much she was suffering. She won't, can't, ever hate Iron, but burn her, did it suck sometimes.)
6 - A secret nobody knows about, but they desperately want to hide. Mira's met one of the human gods. In a sense. Maybe two. Depends how she cares to be depicted. Mira knows the Six exist, even if she'll never believe in them like humans do. She can't and won't ever tell anyone.

yes Hi I really love the two cutiepie lesbians but couldn't find much info about them, can you give us the tea about the two? (The blond(?) And the sunshine!) Love your art ~❤️
Glad you like them! (I don't know what to classify Marci's hair either. Light brown? Blond? Dirty Blond? It is a mystery)
Yeah unfortunately there isn't much about Marci and Mariella yet, given they are relatively new characters: that image was the first time I drew them since making their bios, and even the info in those is a bit outdated now OTL (Also Marci's one needs updates given how I will draw her changed thanks to this pic in question)
Also they are not really part of the main group for each story & I have a LOT of characters, so I haven't had much time or motivation to draw them either. That doesn't mean there isn't a lot of story and lore behind the two though, especially Marci. One thing I can guarantee is that if a character of mine has no lore yet once born, there WILL be a novel's worth later lmaooo
....This does lead to a problem where this will get long-winded, because I HAVE to bring up a couple other characters to explain them properly, which means I'll have to give a summary of said characters too....and world details lore....
Since you asked though, I guess I'll try to summarize; I'll break this up in sections + add images for the characters in question. Maybe I'll put the lore explanation under the cut so those who aren't interested don't have to suffer through a long post:
MARCI'S POWERS
She's a "Weaponsmith Warlock" also known in-world by the name Spatha (Latin for a specific type of weapon) Warlock, I.E has the ability to create any weapon known to man up to the current times, she forms them from red, bloodlike liquid substance. Her power comes from the Herald of War aka one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. (He's not a warmonger in this take but more of a weary soldier who hates his existence)
BACKSTORY
Marci is an orphan, and she originates from Australia in the human world. She was picked up/"adopted" by her former boss Kenzo Yoma/Faydream as a teenager in the 80'ies, as she'd recently discovered her magic powers and was struggling to control them. He basically offered to mentor her for her powers and she'll in turn get away from her shitty foster home. She agreed and moved with him to the Mirror realm (the place where all the mythical beings of this world live, I still haven't figured out a better name for it lol).
She was never really officially adopted by Kenzo though, and acted more as a student than a daughter, but they did still have a good relationship initially, to the point Marci willingly started working as his right hand woman once she was adult/confident enough with her powers.
FIRST DETOUR: Kenzo summary
Tumblr media
Kenzo is a dream-eater, also known as a nightcrawler/bogeyman. In this story they are beings born from people's trauma that feed on said trauma and people's fears and nightmares. Kenzo and his brother Yuuji are a rare twin-born pair so they are especially powerful among their kind, having been born the same time from brothers who experienced the same trauma the same time. (Them appearing Japanese is because the said humans were Japanese)
He works as the head of a special organization called The Shadowless, whose job is to keep the Mirror realm hidden from humans & make sure powerful magic artifacts don't end up in human hands. They kind of protect both sides from each other essentially.
Kenzo is the antagonist of his character set, BUT he is not a "villain." You know, the whole "All villains are antagonists, but not all antagonists are villains." He's basically just a man who nearly lost his wife Evena & daughter Avane once, and this incident caused the said wife to suffer from severe mental health complications, which has essentially strained their familial relationships badly.
He struggles to handle the situation so he's buried himself in his work, causing some of his more negative personality traits to manifest stronger bit by bit. (Tendencies for manipulation, lower empathy, "end justifies the means" thinking) He's still relatively close with his daughter and brother, though tends to argue with the latter a lot, something he didn't do so much in the past. His daughter & brother are also working on trying to get him to realize he's spiraling, while also trying to protect others from him if necessary.
RETIREMENT
Marci eventually retired from her job due to multitude of factors, such as seeing her boss' downward spiral after the incident with his family and starting to lose trust in him, but primarily due to an incident, where she lost control of her powers due to stress in a mission, causing an explosion that killed innocent people by accident. She now works in a magical instrument repair shop, handling the back storage and the like. (She wanted a job where she didn't have to use her powers & always liked anything music related)
MARISA
Tumblr media
Before Marci got this job, she actually went to stay with some friends she'd made a while back, the guardians of the Blue Life tree. There, she ended up growing fond of a recently manifested spirit, a little girl called Marisa, and eventually ended up becoming her adoptive parent as the kid basically chose her to be her mom (Marisa literally pointed at her after a while and declared her her momma lol)
SECOND DETOUR: Moth Spirits and Life trees
Life trees are magical trees within this realm, that call forth lost souls who died with regrets/unfinished business/died before they could have a proper life to begin with. They essentially grant these souls a second chance at life to complete their unfinished business, albeit symbolically majority of the time. (Example: If their regret was never confessing their love to someone, typically the spirit completes this by finding a new person to love and confess to them. This is because often the people in question have already passed on themselves)
Moth spirits are these reborn souls, and their visual characteristics depend on the tree of origin, and the tree depends on their manner of death/who they were as human. Currently there are only 3 trees left, A Weeping Willow (Green tree) Wisteria (The purple tree) and Blue Spruce (The blue tree, obvs). Marisa was born from the blue tree, because she was simply a child who died young accidentally. Moth spirits born from this tree are always blue, but can have orange as an accent color to their appearance. The skin is always a shade of blue though.
MARIELLA
Mariella is a tree nymph who was born out of a seed rather than "human" way. (Both birth types are possible, which happens tends to depend on if the nymph lives in more rural or urban parts of the world. More urbanized ones tend to prefer direct birthing and act as direct parents to their children, whereas seedlings like Mariella tend to live in a communion where all older nymphs/dryads act as the parents to the younglings.)
She used to work as a Guardian for the green Life Tree, but it became mentally and emotionally too taxing given the nature of the spirits born from it. (Tragic deaths with foul play often involved, including self-harm. basically the most traumatized group of the 3)
She started working in the city as one of the park-keepers for the biggest park in there, which is where she met Marci and Marisa, and the two ladies hit it off pretty quickly. They now live together in a new apartment, though their daughter moved out a year ago as she left for university to become a magic-mechanical engineer.
OTHER IMPORTANT CHARACTERS:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Avane (Green haired lady)- Kenzo's daughter whom Marci used to babysit a bit, and even nowadays cares for, sometimes helping her meddle into her dad's business out of concern, both for Ava's safety, but also concern over the damage Kenzo could do in his current mental state. Visually comes mainly after her mother apart from her eyes. Mantis Fairy/Dream-eater mixed heritage.
Sebastian - Her occasional coworker in the instrument shop, also happens to be a member of her favorite local rock band (she didn't realize this until he invited her to a concert as a VIP guest) A Wyvern
Aimi (My friend's character)- her successor and Kenzo's new right hand woman. Often she is the one who contacts her in behalf of Kenzo, and Marci begrudgingly considers her a friend. Ice cream loving fiend, a Grand Fairy
Herald of War/The Soldier (No design yet) - Her Deity/source of power essentially. Considers Marci his favorite as she respects and fears her power appropriately in his eyes. Often visits them and pretends to their daughter he's Marci's relative, so Marisa thinks he's her "uncle" and has no clue he's a powerful apocalyptic entity. Mariella knows but plays along and has a fairly friendly relationship with the weary soldier.
PROTAGONIST CONNECTIONS:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Azul/Chester (spin off protag, blue hair): One of Marci's friends she met through Kenzo's family doctor, who is Azul's adoptive father.
Jurou/Alistair (Main story protag): A tattooist who made her snake tattoo, Avane's boss and the person whose power is currently the most of-interest to Kenzo, given how powerful he actually is. Single bi Goth Dad, though he's starting to date Avane's uncle Yuuji.
OTHER FACTS:
Marci is asexual lesbian, doesn't mind being intimate with her GF if she wants it. They generally tend to be more "cuddles, domestic affection and quality time" type of couple over bedroom funtimes.
Marci is actually around 50-60 in human years, its just that life-expectancy for magic wielders and magical beings is typically measured more in centuries, so she ages slower now that she's fully unlocked her magic. She's roughly equivalent of a human in their thirties.
Mariella's exact age is unknown, but she is generally seen to be late twenties/early thirties in human form
Marci's surname Raye is actually her second name; she did not want to use her foster family's surname, and didn't feel comfortable adopting her mentor's surname as she didn't feel like she had the right to (and later wouldn't want to, seeing how he started to change for the worse)
Mariella's surname was the name of the nymph communion she comes from, which is typical tradition for those who come from these groups.

[read] Evelyn Hardcastle ~P34
Um. I know I haven't finished Good Omens yet. I was distracted by a lots of romance books which I try to be discreet reading about because. Yea. Let's just say I know a bit more about hockey now and oh wow sportsmanship sure can be spicy💀
So, I put aside Good Omens. Impulsively searched up books to read since I was lowkey feeling like I'm about to spiral into a certain genre to read exclusively so before I went too deep, I tried to look for something else. Not too out of my comfort zone (I wasn't too keen in sci-fi, but time-loop hits a bit of a comfort tropes), so I did. And after several minutes of judging the book from it's cover (💀) and reading summaries, i was... Locked into this. The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle (or 7 1/2 in UK, I think). It's about a woman being murdered, and some guy (idk who) have to found the murderer. Time loop is involved, since the guy keeps being out into a different person each loop, presumably to know more about the situation.
it seems so intriguing. And only when I read a measly 11 pages I was reminded of a certain other media. Umineko... YEA... YESSS!!! I haven't read enough but the premise is just✨ and I'd like to savor my time reading it, I'm excited!! This is a preloved book I brought online and the scent, the yellowing paper, the slightly crumpled pages it's lowkey endearing like😭??
AHH I don't know what I'm writing. I'm just excited to start. It's a hella thick book and idk if my brains have the capacity to think and absorb everything lol but I don't mind taking my time!!
P.s. I want to read reviews and look through tags but I think I'll do myself a favor and not spoil myself this EARLY. AAAAAHHHHH
Also. The title reminds me of another title of the book, Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo who I know is mad popular because I've heard talks about it. I may or may not be wanting to put it on to read sooner or later
——-------——------—------—
~P20
This feels like playing a detective game😭 Though I don't play a lot of games so I don't know. But like, in my head I can visually imagine a visual novel interface, a text box, a menu for memory recollection, important information. And now, let's say I'm at the phase to inspect my surrounding!! The room, what clue can I gather from knowing my belongings? (I use first POV because idk who this guy is.)
So. This one, I'm occupying the body of Sebastian B-something.
Oh?? There's going to be a packed cast... An ensemble!! Though idk if all going to appear and make appearance or be any of significant. 20 cast for what I assume the event that the murder took event, and 30 more. I'M EXCITED
-----------------------------------
~P34
If I kept writing thoughts with this pace I'd end up with dozen of post about this book lol
I LIKE IT..... AHHHHH the suspense. the mystery. there's a lot of clues laid out here and there. a backstory. i don't think i'm still anywhere near finishing the introductory phase of what's the story want to tell though.
A person inhabiting Sebastian Bell's body woke up to a woman being chased by a man in coat. This person calls out, 'Anna', and froze a bit before the man in coat shot her. Scared shitless, the man hands him a compass, told him where to go. He arrived at the mansion. Foreign figures, strangers. Daniel Coleridge welcomes him, Doctor Dickie checks on him, and he met one of the son of the house, Michael Hardcastle. A bit about how his family invited people for a party, a lot showed up but talks about them in an annoyed manners. This guy also discovers that his arms, has been slashed, assumed to be acquired in acts of self-defense. Someone is out to chase get him. End.
What I understood.
The guy is not Sebastian Bell. He felt foreign in his body. Memories isn't coming back.
The Hardcastle family is made up of burgoise folks. The Lord of the house moved here because of his failing in politics. I don't remember.
The mansion is located pretty far from crowds and the city. It's surrounded by forests.
Michael Hardcastle is the (youngest) younger Hardcastle? His brother older by two year were murdered when Michael was 5. The perpetrator is two figures, one known and the other unknown until now.
Michael seems like a fun character to read!!! He's easygoing, lively and he was close with Sebastian. Though knowing this story is about murders and all, I can imagine him being killed soon (probably not since that's his sister role!!!) but surely partake in some shady acts.
A guy helped the Hardcastle by avenging? beating up? one of the perpetrator. Ted S-something. He was awarded back then and now he's a snob.
I still don't know who is inside Sebastian's body. The story is told in his POV, but amnesia and all.
I can't make any guesses for now. There's barely anything enough to assume. I feel like even if I do guess stuff I'd feel stupid later on haha

I've complained before about how Shonen Jump paces the first chapter of new series, and I'll probably keep complaining.
This week's new series is Ichigoki's Under Control. In the space of three pages, the titular character...
Discovers that Misao, his mad scientist childhood ex-friend, has shrunk herself to the size of an unusually small doll
Listens to her explanation of why she shrunk herself, and insults her for her reason
Agrees to take her to the zoo to collect stuff she needs to unshrink herself
Gets killed by a gorilla (this gets its own splash page)
...he gets better.
Throw in enough backstory to establish Ichigoki and Misao's relationship, and you could fill half the chapter. Instead, it's over before the 25% mark. And while I'm complaining about the pacing, I'd like to point out that more page space is spent on Ichigoki getting beaten by the gorilla (not even getting to the enclosure, just the beating) than on establishing his relationship with Misao.
I like what the series is going for, I mostly like its tone, but the things it chooses to spend its page-space on make the normal pacing issues of Jump's first chapters all the more frustrating on.
And for those who haven't read one of my Shonen Jump debut rants before: I'm sorry. Also, these pacing issues are a direct result of Shonen Jump's editorial policies.
Shonen Jump is famous for how brutally it cuts underperforming series. Look at series cancelled before they had a chance to show their potential, like The Hunter's Guild: Red Hood; or series about the inner workings of Shonen Jump, like Bakuman; or at Time Paradox Ghostwriters, which is a little of both (but not as much either as I'd like).
Where was I? Oh, right, Jump cutting series. Some analysts point to this as part of why so many top manga/anime series come from Jump's pages, from Dragon Ball to Chainsaw Man. But it's also clear that this aggressive cancellation policy affects how Jump's manga writers write manga for Jump.
Think about it from their perspective. It's entirely possible that poor performance in your series's first few chapters will mark it for death before the second volume. So you, the writer, need to make sure your first chapters catch as many fans as possible.
A slow-burn opening won't do; that isn't efficient. You need to cram as much of what makes your series theoretically appealing into the first few chapters. Ideally, you cram all of it into the first chapter. And I can't say I blame them. Under those conditions, I'd do the same. (Or more realistically, lock up until someone force-fed me a deadline.)
Understandable as it is, I still find it frustrating. The inciting incident and its immediate fallout can't even get a whole chapter, because you need to give the audience a taste of what to expect from the main series. It's like chapter 1, or sometimes the whole first volume, is an abridged series of itself.
That analogy feels particularly apt for Ichigoki's Under Control, since a lot of its jokes feel like they came from early DBZA episodes. ("Pointing out how ridiculous the thing someone just said is funny!") I wish it didn't try so hard to make me laugh out loud and focused on the parts that were kinda funny.
It has potential, though! If the jokes had more room to breathe, if the characters got a bit more focus to show how they're different from other inept anime dudes and teenaged man scientists, if if if.
If the author trusted the editor not to cut the series if its first chapter didn't rock the popularity polls.

Im shocked how much mystery they still put in lim hanrim and na hwajins backstories even though we are almost to a 100 episodes?
hanrim= high school graduate, top at martial art in her special unit, raised by her father (stated she didnt had a mom), had a rough time in middle school
hwajin= His dad used to be a teacher too and spoke fondly of his dad bringing him chicken , university graduate, obedient kid (? said he lisent to his parents a lot so?), was engaged or married to gayoon choi, resecently seemed to get emotional when whale explained he also raised by his dad.
i thought it would be fun to ask you if you have any predictions for the series, i discovered the series by seeing one of your post so thank you! have a nice day
Hey, anon~ hello! And thanks!
I'll be honest, I haven't really thought much about Hwajin's and Hanrim's backstories since every arc of this manhwa is absolute banger, I just kinda let the author take me wherever lol.
But hey! It wouldn't hurt right? If it's just speculating.. even if I say something silly, I'll be forgiven, right? Heheh. I did entertain the idea of Hwajin coming from an abusive household and Choi Gangseok taking custody of him at some point and raising him.
Would anyone care for some parallels.. anyone out there who'd like a bit of a heart break? Lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ah, but first Hanrim. For Hanrim I think it won't be necessary for us to theorize. There's a manhwa called Hanrim Gym (romanized as Hanlim too). I think much of Hanrim's story was (or will be) told there (not 100% sure, I've only read around 2 chapters lol but I'm planning to catch up on it soon). But hey, if you're curious, I think it's worth checking out. I think Hanrim appears around chapter 10 or so, maybe earlier. I suspected she's some sort of a delinquent in her teenage years.. and as the story's panning out, I think it's highly likely she actually is.
Now for Hwajin. I got the notion that he might have been abused/neglected as a kid from Minseo's arc (the cute 6 year old, seriously so cute, so cute, damn my heart Minseo is the cutest kid fr). Out of all the cases, Hwajin seemed particularly affected by Minseo's case (well, me too but like man poor baby seriously.. who among y'all wasn't affected??).
It just struck me something odd that the story seemed to be hinting to some kind of instant recognition in Hwajin regarding Minseo's situation when he first noticed him at the convenience store.
I mean, Hwajin's a military man (I'M NOT SAYING MILITARY PEOPLE ARE COLD AND INDIFFERENT!! But), he's not a child psychologist or like idk.. he's not even a dad as far as I know, but the way he spoke from "Minseo's perspective" (and how he generally sympathized with him) made it seem as if it's all familiar territory to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So like idk, maybe I'm just reading into it too much. Maybe any guy sensible enough would say the same things. Maybe it's only natural to lose your cool when dealing with such garbage people who'd hurt their own kid to the point that the child would rupture their liver (no shit, I'd start swinging a baseball bat myself) but hey, it's just speculating so it's fine hahah.
Anyway, thank you for the ask, anon. I appreciate it. This spiel is so long-winded I hope you don't mind. Have a good one on your side of the planet. Fistbump.

La Squadra Backstory thoughts (Rough Draft)
Author's Note: Inspired a bit by @sluttbuttsstuff's backstory head canons. Will develop more later. I'm actually basing this on their stands, personality, possible symbolism behind the stand and personalities.
Warning: These get dark, mention of murder suicide, abuse.
Prosciutto (and Pesci)
Prosciutto comes from an old mafia family. His father worked at a cemetery. His legitimate job is laying people to rest. His mob job is burying people alive who offended the gang. So Prosciutto has been acquainted with death for since childhood.
He grew up seeing his father abuse his mother. Just being taught very problematic views on 'how a man should handle his wife'. He would help his mother with her make up for events (and to cover up the bruises).
Later on he discovered his dad is an even bigger piece of shit, having affairs and even getting a fisherman's daughter pregnant, hiding the illegitimate son, Pesci. Pesci's mother returned and begged Prosciutto's father to help (because she's dying).
Learning about this her husband's affair caused Prosciutto's mom to have a breakdown and commit suicide. Prosciutto's father blames Pesci's mother for his wife's depression and tries to kill her but Prosciutto kills him first.
Haven't figured out how he gets recruited by La Squadra. I imagine he betrays his father's mafia and help Passione slaughter the leaders.
PESCI
Pesci did not join Passione when Prosciutto did. Prosciutto did try to keep Pesci away from that life. However, once Pesci's mother passed, he had nowhere to do. His mother's family disowned her for sleeping with a mafioso and Pesci never made friends, so poor Pesci didn't have better options. When first getting Beach Boy, he was sad. It reminded him of the good times when he and his mother would fish together.
Formaggio
Honestly, I can see Formaggio and Mista being cousins.
I sense an inferiority complex inside him. Perhaps he use to play with dolls (or just torture them to blew off some steam). You know, the kid that bullies because he's been abused by others. He hung out with teenagers in Passione and he wanted to join too. Just going to link @sluttbuttsstuff 's backstory for Formaggio here because I just fucking love it.
Melone
Just gonna link Melone's backstory here, because it is literal perfection.
Ghiaccio
He’s not actually Italian and his name is a nickname due to his hair. So why is he so obsessed with the Italian language? Because he worked hard to understand it to adjust to his new home and it made him patriotic.
Ghiaccio's actually from Canada and of Ukrainian descent. He knows about ice skating from playing Hockey and doing Ice Skating competitions. C'mon! Ice, aggressive, skates, you can't tell me you didn't think hockey!
How'd he end up in Italy? Parents moved to Italy. At first Ghiaccio hated it, but he quickly loved it. Sure, he missed Canada, but fell more in love with the Italian language and literature.
Things couldn't stay normal forever! His parents were stupid enough to anger Passione over a dumb decision. Ghiaccio didn't want to die due to their mistake, so he turned on them and reported them to the mob. He faked his death, having the news claim he died along side his parents, abandoning his old name and becoming 'Ghiaccio'.
Illuso
I wrote about this one already!
TLDR Illuso was a nerd who got bullied. In high school, he murdered his bullies and got away with it. In college, he continued to murder people who disrespected him. He coincidentally killed a target of La Squadra, so they forced him to join and fake his death.
Risotto
LAST BUT NOT LEAST!
Polpo's illegitimate son. Mom got killed due to gang violence, so he was raised by her sister. He saw his cousin as his older brother. Risotto was a shy awkward kid who didn't have alot of friends. Really adored his cousin. So when his cousin was killed by a drunk driver, his heart became cold and he was willing to throw everything away to make that fucker pay. Around that time, his stand manifested. People kept their distance thinking Risotto was possessed. He even got kicked out his aunt's house. Age 18, he used Metallica to kill the drunk driver.
He was smart enough to lie about obtaining Metallica after joining Passione. Oh, and he joined Passione thanks to Polpo's recommendation. Polpo doesn't give a shit about being a dad, but he knows talent when he sees it.
I'm not sure how I feel about his eyes yet. Either he was born with them or they became red and black due to Metallica.
