Thoughts on kasim? And his relationship with kosem? Also do you think that murad envied him in some ways
I feel like kosem and Kasim’s relationship isn’t appreciated enough at all. I have never seen any edit or anything of them anywhere. What do you guys think of their relationship?
Kasim’s relationship with Kösem and Ibrahim was lovely! Makes you really wish they had succeeded and Kasim had become the sultan instead of Ibrahim... everything could have been so different.
The most problematic thing about Kasim was definitely his attitude to Bayezid because while yes Bayezid backstabbed them, he should have later taken a chill pill ultimately and instead of quarreling with him should have tried to focus on their common threat aka Murad. Yet there was still Gülbahar, who would never be conciliatory and of course Kasim does have his reasons to be scared due to suspicions of her being alive. Maybe if relations between brothers hadn’t been so bad, Bayezid would not have got that close to his mum and at least sent her away to some safe place? We might never know. Ibrahim was mad at Bayezid too intiially, but later let it slide.
Kasim is clearly well aware of Murad’s true nature from the start because he’s scared at the prospect of Murad taking full power already in episode 1 of Season 2 and remarks how Mu/rat will likely lock them all up, which later happens to him in just a few episodes. This, I guess, contrasts a bit with Bayezid’s naivety regarding Murad - he never expected him going as far as locking Kasim up with their mad uncle as punishment. Bayezid is all about obeying the rules, Kasim is more lax at the beginning, as his “love affair” showed, but we know Bayezid will later dare to engage in forbidden love too.
After Kasim is released from kafes, the relationship between all the brothers is never the same and it’s no longer as friendly as we have seen at the beginning when even Bayezid and Kasim were in very good relations.
Kasim has definitely a lovely relationship with Ibrahim - they are clearly very close confidants and he is very protective of his younger sibling throughout, even being there to comfort him when Ibrahim breaks down during Gevherhan’s funeral or afterwards coming to defend him from Murad when Ibrahim faces Mu rat and calls him out on the treatment of their mother and other people. I also loved when he tried to always keep him calm when they were in kafes, e.g. by trying to mention their childhood game.
I think that following Bayezid’s death Kasim matured and while seating in kafes truly wanted to become a merciful padisah and follow more into his father’s footsteps than Murad’s as he himself claimed. He also seemed to understand his mother’s feelings – he stressed he knew what she had been through and had done for them, how she still proceeds slowly even once he and Ibrahim are in cages because her feelings for Murad hinder her from acting decively. You can truly see in his talks with Kösem that he now wants to return to peace their family had had before Murad took the throne and he wants to have a little family with his mum and Ibrahim that could live in peace and without fear.
Was Murad jealous of their closeness?
Murad wanted everyone’s life to revolve around HIM. And again he only wanted his mother to focus on HIM. He never took into account she also cared about whole dynasty, including her other kids. She was forbidden in his mind to take any actions with thought about times when he would be gone.
This is why he got soo mad about her going with princes to the janissary barracks. He didn’t pay attention that Kösem had received reliable news from Kemankeş about janissaries being already on verge of revolt, Murad’s sons were told to be dead of plague, and that nobody saw the princes since they had been locked up by Murad like two years ago.  Again it was widely known by then that the plague hit the palace and even Murad contracted it from his sons. Nobody knew whether Murad’s brothers were still alive, didn’t catch the plague as well and whether they were surely still alive or in sound mental and physical condition. And since they were only heirs end of dynasty could thus be near and for Ottomans no padişah meant no law, so riots etc. were allowed. It was also customary for palace factions to hide padisah’s demise or truth about his condition due to them fighting for their personal interests (and even in this case Yusuf managed to hide Murad’s later, correct diagnosis from even the Valide Sultan herself). Murad HAD to remember when the mob almost attacked to palace when they wanted to see the princes in ep. 31. Kösem was doing her duty and you can bet that if they had attacked the palace with him in it, he would have then accused Kösem of inciting them or not stopping them from rebelling. Similar case was when Ahizade vouched for him back in episode 31 that the princes were alive and well and Murad got mad because of course he is the Padişah, fate of princes and dynasty is all him, nobody will vouch for him even if this helps HIM (I just cannot even comprehend his sick logic). Again, she was at his sick bed, she left to take care of matters connected with state and her other children, and would have surely returned to his side after they returned from barracks if he had not stormed in. But he’s of course bitter she didn’t just sit at his sick bed crying all the time or better decided her life was over because he was going to die.Kosem’s whole life was balancing so many of her responsibilites.
When Kösem tells him that if he wants to punish anyone, it should be her, not her other children, of course he decides to ask for fetva anyway (and again he KNOWS he’s fatally ill and that would mean end of dynasty and does not inform the müfiti about it). It’s quite repeated pattern – he uses Kösem’s kids to demand obedience from her, just as he blackmailed her about locking Kasim and Ibrahim up if she did not leave palace. He knows she that’s the best way to make her obedient.
Murad in general wants desperately to turn the clock back, but things in  the Ottoman Empire already changed and Padisah was no longer such “God” as before:
If it came to deposition, the queen mother’s acquiescence in the removal of her son preserved the bond between ruler and ruled in a reassuring way that all the niceties of Islamic law could not match. At such times the continuity of the dynasty could be maintained only by means of a living link between generations, and in the postexpansionist empire, it was the sultan’s mother who was that link. (...) Interregnums were periods of social disruption. Because of the personal nature of the bond between sultan and subjects, oaths of loyalty were considered to have lapsed at the death of a sultan. This led to the practice of looting and general insubordination until the next sultan had been enthroned and could demand the obedience of his subjects. At these times of potential disruption, royal women played a vital role in preserving dynastic continuity: by hiding the death of the old sultan and thus preventing social disruption, by protecting the interests of the new sultan, and by preserving the traditions of the dynasty. (...)
It is in this changing political environment that the significance of the valide sultan's role in depositions can best be understood. The mother of the deposed sultan performed the function of providing sanction for the rejection of the individual sultan, thus allowing dynastic legitimacy to be preserved. The mothers of three of the five seventeenth-century sultans who were deposed—Mustafa, İbrahim, and Mustafa II (r. 1695-1703)—were alive at the time of their sons’ depositions. There is evidence to suggest that each of these women was formally petitioned by the highest officers of state—the grand vezir and the müfti—not only to approve but also to assist in the transfer of authority. (...) The valide sultan’s role in these dramatic events was to some degree a formality: she was asked to ratify a decision that had already been made by leading politicians and religious dignitaries. Yet her sanction of the forcible transfer of power from one sultan to another was necessary because it symbolically prevented the rupturing of dynastic continuity. Despite the fact that Islamic legal tradition allowed rebellion against a sovereign who prevented the pursuit of the proper Muslim life (it was precisely this kind of argument that had been put forth to justify İbrahim’s deposition), the devotion of Ottomans to their dynasty was so great that the rebellion of the sultan’s servants against their master appeared to violate their oath of loyalty to their sovereign and to return ingratitude for the bounty he had bestowed on them (it was principally with this argument that Kösem Sultan countered the religio-legal argument). In being called upon to legitimate the subjects’ withdrawal of their loyalty, the valide sultan, as the senior member of the royal family, was endowed with the responsibility of representing the welfare of the dynasty as a whole, even if this meant sacrificing the interest of a particular sultan. (...) The valide sultan, as head of the imperial harem, was the one individual who could sanction the crossing of its boundary if necessary. In the absence of the sultan, she was the one individual who could exercise authority in both the outer and inner worlds of government.
Taken from: Leslie Peirce, The Imperial Harem - Women and the Sovereignty in the Ottoman Empire
As such, Yahya Efendi telling him that even a Padişah cannot make such a decision like end of dynasty (and thus whole state) in bolum 56 is very poignant.
Murad generally wants to bring back old times of when dynasty centered around one person aka the current padişah and when loyalty was only to him, not whole dynasty. He wants to be the most important and this also comes out in relation with his own mother. He also misses how in past mothers usually had only one son, so obviously they focused solely on him, and their lives were supposed to be over once their son died, all they were supposed to do was to be custodians of their tombs and memory. He obviously would love such old times to come back.
I think people are more fascinated by relationship between Kösem and Murad, and while it is interesting, at the same time they miss they could never be a working “power duo” - they might have the same spirit aka forceful, charismatic and domineering personality, but ultimately it was reflected differently as they used completely different ruling methods and adhered to a different vision of ruling and sultanate. /And of course there’s issue of Murad’s attitude towards his mother and him accepting NO ONE’s support and influence, he was never one for sharing his power even a little. Valide ruling only harem was an outdated concept by this point, but it was what he wanted to turn the clock back to earlier and outdated concepts of sultanate and sovereignty/

leftist suriya characters appreciation post
since soorarai pottru, been thinking more about all the explicit leftist characters suriya has played in his career. and i actually mean explicit - characters that are supported by the narrative framing and structure and not just my own headcanons and stuff or a throwaway generic goody-shoe typical hero line. i have been itching to talk about this cos it’s obviously in my field of interests
suriya has played 4 openly various brands of leftist now, and that’s pretty cool! i love that none of them are cookie cutter personalities of each other, they all have their own select trait. this post is a toast to them;
michael vasanth (ayutha ezhuthu, 2004)
vimalan (maattraan, 2012)
iniyan (thaanaa serndha koottam, 2018)
maara (soorarai pottru, 2020)
[small write up on each character with pics behind the cut]
*****
1. michael vasanth (ayutha ezhuthu, 2004)
Tumblr media
so michael was his first, said to be inspired by an actual university popular marxist student leader, george reddy. michael is very obviously somewhere along these lines - he himself is within the film known as the leftist student leader on campus with a huge following, much to the chagrin of his professors who want to stamp that out of him. he’s openly engaged in campus politics as well as politics outside, and he’s most definitely no weak willed liberal because he has no problems with violence or direct action, which he organises. he organises villagers to stand against others on their own feet, never once preaches about lying down and taking it easy or playing polite. which was nice to see lol i hate liberals who have morals about property damage but in ayutha ezhuthu, michael clearly doesn’t give a fuck. he and his group break things and smash cars and lorries on their way and threaten physical violence on their opponents too which is the way it should be because to him human lives are worth more than any property or vehicular damage. he never shies away from that. hell yes to violence and structural damage!
Tumblr media
probably the most definite trait of michael compared to other suriya leftist characters is that michael still believes in the establishment and electoral politics, which u don’t particularly see his other leftist ones talk about. but here, michael works within the system, and trusts it to bring change if u put in the effort into that. though, it’s not as frustrating as it sounds cos michael’s work is not geared towards other liberals, but in villages and rural districts where he goes to spread word, and makes them choose their own leadership to represent. it’s way more marxist aligned and ~rise of the proletariat~ here instead cos he bypasses liberal bougie nonsense and never once is his voice used for that, but used towards and for the working class directly to both take up arms and resist violently themselves + hold ranks for themselves and choose their own leaders to influence their local politics/protect their environment.
michael is fundamentally very marxist, with a dose of direct action plus violent resistance if need be, and supports organised proletariat uprising within an established political system playing towards electoral politics
(of course, a point to note in why this isn’t as frustrating as it sounds as mentioned above is cos this film was released in 2004. would michael still believe in the establishment and electoral politics now? things in 2020 are very different with all of us more aware of things around us and globally, it’s definitely a debate to be held. i doubt he will, since he’s not a pacifist or liberal. he’d say fuck electoral politics, all my homies hate electoral politics)
2. vimalan (maattraan, 2012)
Tumblr media
second very openly communist character he played. prob gone a bit forgotten for others since he does die halfway through the film (which itself isn’t a favourite of anyone either, fans or neutrals) rip but can’t go by without mentioning cos i remember liking this character a lot and i teared up in the cinema first watch when he died. i was mad they killed the suriya i loved instead of the other one whom i found annoying lmao
vimal supports workers’ strikes and unions against bosses, even when that boss is their own shitty father. this automatically makes him stand out instantly considering he is sympathetic to the working class despite at the cost of his father’s annoyance with him. he’s also the first character suriya plays who’s explicitly anti-capitalist with line(s) about it, since michael had no canon lines regarding capitalism from what i recall. vimal outright does.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the leftist imagery tied to vimal the most is che, which is a nice touch. his room has at least one poster of him, and his phone’s wallpaper is also him. u can also see bhagat singh and ho chi minh books on his shelf. so.. safe to claim where vimal’s political ideologies are. it’s both tied in pictures and him siding with workers for their rights against corporations, since he obviously likes revolutionaries. vimalan was a class traitor and a supporter of the working class poor bb tragically gone too soon. ilu u didn’t deserve your terrible fate, sweet commie good boi :(
3. iniyan (thaanaa serndha koottam, 2018)
iniyannnnnn i love him and i think it’s a suriya char with one of the best character arcs in his whole career. mostly cos he had a very distinct ‘’yes i want to work for the government and change things from within’’ phase which gets squashed over the course of the film. we see him start off obviously in a very blatantly communist neighbourhood in a song that is also very specifically anti-establishment/politicians with a lot of hard resistance vibes. the entirety of sodakku is a very good introduction to him and what he stands for - in general the film promises upon wealth disparity, useless bougie politicians, and the rest of us being crushed under them.
Tumblr media
what happens to him at the end of the movie is FANTASTIC because he no longer gels with what he wanted at the start of the movie. iniyan’s key leftist trait to me is that he’s the most anarchist of suriya characters, varying from other leftist suriya characters. he refuses to work with government powers and authorities, he looks down on their entire establishment and institutions (he does not at the start of the film, which is vital cos again, he wanted to work alongside them at first), and depends more on the good will of individual people over job titles, while clearly engaging in mutual aid and distributing wealth. these are very distinct anarchist ideals. i’d still peg him as anarcho-communist but would say he leans more towards anarchy and progressing on mutual aid over official state resources or state people for any kind of positive change since his faith in them has pretty much diminished by the climax. he does not give a shit about politicians, cops, or any kind of authorities at all, leaving them in the dust to raise his black flag and do his own anarchist hot shit.
iniyan is a good example of an anarchist arc for me in tamil cinema in simple commercial terms without heading too deep into actual words and phrases in a big hero movie, cos it’s also very easy to explain to anyone the shift in his ideas and his eroding faith in institutions with power. good for him!
4. maara (soorarai pottru, 2020)
Tumblr media
this should be fresh in everyone’s memory, but yes, a character who is obviously in your face about it since he has an actual line - ‘’you’re a socialite, i’m a socialist’’ which caused all of us with good taste to whoop and cheer. plus he was very sexy in this whole scene, so what a bonus. it’s the most explicit thing said by him in the film, but there are also other little things peppered into his speech and background imagery showing u the kind of person maara is.
Tumblr media
he gets married to bommi in a self-respect wedding ceremony. no priests or any kind of traditional hindu iyers/chants involved. u see it clearly with a periyar pic hanging behind him explaining who he is. he wears black a lot in the film, which fits him being a periyarist so i’d label him as such and consider it his standout trait from other leftist characters suriya has played previously because this is the only character with explicit periyar symbolism (i kid u not i saw multiple sanghis being very angry suriya dressed in black in this movie and were harassing him on twitter constantly since sp released. die mad, uglies). obviously, this also fuses well with the little things we see of him implying he’s ~lower caste~ like his in-laws being embarrassed about him on behalf of their own caste, and paresh sanitising his hands after shaking hands with maara on the plane, which is not subtle at all and trademark casteist behaviour about touching someone ‘’lesser’’ than you and u view them as ‘’dirty’’ or beneath you. as well as maara’s remark about breaking the class and caste barrier during his radio interview. being a periyarist fits seamlessly.
Tumblr media
there’s also a bts vid of suriya on his bike where you can see an ambedkar pic pasted onto the side. i can’t remember any scene in the film where u can see his bike from this angle but it doesn’t matter, cos u can definitely tell the kind of person maara is and how he was envisioned as a character - an explicit socialist and periyarist, with a natural fondness for ambedkar too since ofc they overlap as many do irl as well. it is very in tune with his background in the film and i liked seeing the tiny aspects of these things seeded within the movie throughout from beginning to end. it’s explicit in a way that isn’t jarring or artificial, and a nice layer to him and feel endeared to since maara is a great character. u support him all the way with him being unquestionable in his stance and ideology. the sexiest leftist suriya character, if i say so myself, ahem.
/////
5. ngk (ngk, 2019)
bonus: THIS IS IT. THE BIGGEST SIKE. THE BIGGEST WHIPLASH. THE BIGGEST BASTARD.
it’s here cos damn, when they released that first look, i completely lost my shit cos that poster was sooo heavily che inspired and very, very obviously marxist. cue me thinking that holy shit suriya is openly playing some kind of marxist guerilla revolutionary in ngk and he’s gonna be some brand of violent radical leftist i’m gonna fall in love with. the beret, the raised fists, the red.. i was ready to be head over heels for this guy.
Tumblr media
except of course, none of this was true, cos once the film released, u know that poster was only meant to signify how his village looked up to him before he sold them all out. it’s literally just a mural on the wall where a kid stares up at him in a larger extended poster. he COULD have been that character, but ngk’s character arc was a negative character arc and his moral downfall from the start to the end of the film, sacrificing all he stood for to arrive at his end point which was just dragging his village and all the youngsters who believed in him to the pits before jumping party to the winning group and abandoning all of them after manipulating them to act in his favour to gain sympathy. not to mention, also selling out to corporate tools to harness their power and influence in order to rise to the top himself, something he very openly states at the beginning of the film to his mum and wife that working like that is no way to live. he has a full reverse by this point, compared to how ngk was introduced to us as an audience with that first look of him.
the marxist poster was a complete 180 to how ngk falls on the spectrum at the end, but it was a great ride nevertheless and at least one thing was still true - i still fell in love with him cos he was such an asshole bastard but still so hot i had to give in. biiiicchh. i love u, non-leftist regressive jerk. u may have pulled the biggest sike on me, but.. my heart is yours, slut <3
*****
ok that’s really it and all i wanted to say so hopefully at least a few people read this lmafooo. i do think these characters and time have sort of seeped into suriya over the years as evident by his shifting left in the last couple of years, and openly also saying he has had a lot of perspective changes on things around him. he has been noted in recent interviews saying stuff like how he’s in favour of a cashless society, talking about a whole new level of poverty class being created during this pandemic. his written articles/statements/agaram related speeches takes jibes at india’s education system being brahministic/casteist in nature and how it creates barriers for the lowest strata of society while also being very sensitive about student suicides, showing understanding of it as a systematic failure and not an individual one, courts not functioning for justice, not demonising protests as it’s the only act left for the voiceless, etc. it’s nice. i wouldn’t go as far as to call him a leftist until he proves that to me (suriya is still very much in that liberal zone of appreciating the police and military institutions so i will never consider him one of us until he sheds these allegiances and rethinks his stance on them in society), but i’d say he’s definitely the furthest left of all prominent actors in tamil cinema as no one else really has said or written the things that he has, for which i’m very proud of him.
so keep up the good work and hot shit comments and ballsy articles, suriya, i look forward to u shifting further left and pissing off everyone from right wing patriotic assholes, to centrist bootlickers, and even cowardly liberal pacifists. i believe in u and i hope he crosses that steep liberal curve soon since we were all there at some point as well.
that’s all goodbye i love suriya thanks for reading

Mother: Laureloxeme q. Goldenhaired woman
Age: 5,157
Relationship: Almost nonexistent, they speak but it’s awkward and quiet. Mírë feels as though her mother loves wine and her sister and brother more than her. Extended Family Member(s):
-Lírë, her grandmother, is the other family member she has the most consistent and closest relationship with. The two are very close and Lírë always dotes on her granddaughter, she saw to her care after the kinslaying since no one in her immediate family would be there for her through her recovery.
- Mírë gets along with most of her cousins, all of which are ellons, and all of them adore Mírë and Losseien as they are the only elleths born into the extensively male family. Things change drastically though when Mírë is betrothed to Carnistir and all of them begin to view her as traitorous as they are unforgiving to the Fëanorians for what they did to Mírë, Elvëion and Malinien.

[] Confidant (INFJ) – Intensely private and committed to their beliefs. Highly intuitive, emphatic and dedicated listeners. Quietly forceful and sensitive. The rarest personality type, especially with males. Focused on fantasy more than reality. Fears doing the wrong thing. Tend to work quietly behind the scenes and influence people rather than be leaders. Persevering, especially when it comes to doing the right thing. Very individualistic, rather than leading or following, but can work with groups to accomplish a goal.
[] Dreamer (INTP) – Tend to be very private, and does not let a lot of people get close. They are loners and tend to avoid conflicts. The act of creating can already be an accomplishment of instilling a sense of satisfaction. Constantly search for values in life, and tend to use their intuition to do so. Logical, original, creative thinkers. Can become very excited about theories and ideas. Exceptionally capable and driven to turn theories into clear understandings. Want to be recognized and valued, but without attention. Never lose their sense of wonder.
Define your character’s personality based on the following aspects:
a. Physically (outward interaction with his environment, personal strengths):
Mírë is very gentle and careful with her environment, enjoying its beauty for what it’s worth. She uses her environment to draw on her creativity, and employs her compassionate nature to great care of keeping things orderly and content. In harsher environments, Mírë adapts quickly though grows intensively quieter and more careful to persist and survive.
b. Psychologically (intellect, mental stability, morality):
Mírë is a very logical person as well as uses her past experiences to decide how to reason things when it calls for it. She’s very intelligent and very much an intellectual. Mentally, Mírë, is unstable. Struggling with PTSD, anxiety and depression since the First Kinslaying at her home in Alqualondë. Mírë has a great sense of morality, knowing the distinct difference between right and wrong in her own behavior. Though when it comes to herself and her treatment, her morality is a little skewed as she is used to abusive behavior being the normal for her. She strongly dislikes people who have no value of treating people kindly or people enacting injustices against others for no reason.
c. Spiritually (his faith, convictions):
Mírë used to be a very devout follower of Eru and the Valar, though after the first kinslaying her devotion falters drastically. She still holds a considerable love for them both, but she no longer relies on it, if at all, for anything.
d. Emotionally (willpower, under stressful situations, expressiveness):
Mírë has a decent amount of willpower and all of it is used to survive her abusive relationships at home as opposed to using her willpower to navigate her life how she wants too. Under stressful situations, Mírë is more likely to shut down and try and muddle her way through it, asking no one for help and shouldering everything by herself. Under the impression that no one will help her. Mírë is not very expressive to those she is not comfortable with, preferring to keep a poker face as to not upset anyone. Though the people she is closest with she opens up considerably and allows herself to be emotional before them.
e. Socially (how others view him, how he interacts with people):
People often tend to look at Mírë as very much the ideal Lady and daughter that she is, as she follows rules to a tee and the commands given to her by her father. Though people also tend to look at her as spineless as she really never stands up for herself or never voices her own thoughts. Though other people see her kindness and appreciate how considerate she is to them. Mírë will always be kind and considerate to those around her, even to Tyelkormo who she despises with every fiber in her being. She doesn’t believe in causing conflict, even if it is necessary.
Others things to know:
Mírë tends to handle everything by herself, starkly under the impression that no one will help her deal with anything. Most of this is conditioning after she was left to “recover” mentally from the Kinslaying and dealing with her father and sisters abuse. Even when forced into her engagement with Carnistir, she views him very much as someone who will treat her negatively and like a burden so she just obediently listens to the things he instructs her to do. Mírë stays in a very strict survival mode, trying to navigate her new life with the very people who hurt her and murdered her brother and sister in law. Even with Nerdanel at first, she only does things Mírë believes Nerdanel wants out of her.
=========================================
HISTORY
=========================================
1. Describe the character’s childhood.
Mírë’s childhood was extremely idyllic, spent with her brother and parents mostly. Losseien refused to have to do much with her care as that resentment was there even at a young age for Mírë. Elvëion would often take her to the beach, and he was the one who taught her both how to fish with a net and a spear. Her mother made sure she was highly educated and her father encouraged her to pursue her interests and when she showed interests in politics, he openly welcomed her to teach her the ropes at a young age. Her childhood was very healthy and happy, save for Losseien. She wanted to be just like Losseien when she was very little and would always chase after her sister despite the constant rejection.
2. Name the good incidents that have happened in the character’s life. How has this shaped his personality?
Her childhood was a direct catalyst for making her such a happy and knowledgeable person especially pre kinslaying. It was what drove her to take interest in caring for her people and family. Even post kinslaying she has a strong drive to make others happy and make sure their needs are met, even if she believes following certain tasks will help.
3. Name bad experiences that have happened in the character’s life. How has this shaped his personality?
The Kinslaying made her very sad and quiet. The loss of her fertility bubbling and building extreme resentment for the Fëanorians. When the abuse began at first she was resistant and constantly fighting against it, but eventually the repeated blows became too much. This is where Mírë developed her incredible need to be obedient to try and make her situation better, as well as bring happiness to anybody.
4. What is the character doing when first introduced?  What are his goals at this point?
When first introduced, Mírë is in the middle of having a nightmare to the First Kinslaying and watching her brother and sister in law be killed and then herself being harmed before she awakens. Her goals at this point are currently to just keep surviving and make sure that she keeps her father happy and pleased.
4a. Do these goals change at any point in the story?
Yes, eventually Mírë begins to do things for herself, and her goals change drastically from survival to being about genuine happiness and overcoming her struggles with abuse and from the Kinslaying. She wants to learn to be forgiving where it actually counts, and to condemn those who have abused her as well as learn to defend and love herself.

1. What are the motivations for the character’s actions?
Mírë’s motivations for her actions are at first about keeping things conflict free and happy for other people, as opposed to keeping things happy for herself. She wants to keep herself out of the line of fire as much as possible. Though eventually this changes to actually wanting to do things for herself, gain confidence to defend herself, and enjoy her life instead of just trying to survive it.
2. What are the character’s goals / ambition / dreams?
Survival at first, though it changes to healing and overcoming the hard obstacles in her life. Her dream is to marry Carnistir and have a happy and content life with him as he views her as equal and nothing less.
3. What external conflicts would you wish for the character to overcome?
Dealing with her abusive family, healing from her trauma, repairing more bridges with the Fëanorians and seeing that they all have changed, even Tyelkormo.
3a. What are the obstacles in the character’s path that might make this difficult?
Her father and sister who interfere and tear her down, her extended family who view her as a traitor, people who will take advantage of her. Tyelkormo and a few of the Fëanorians being really rough around the edges and suspicious of her.
4. What inner conflicts would you wish for the character to overcome?
Trauma, and insecurities
4a. What are the obstacles in the character’s path that might make this difficult?
Her own fears and self flagellation.

Character theme song: What’s Wrong by PVRIS, Hallucinations by PVRIS
Celebrity / IRL look alike: -
List down any future plot twists / conflicts you are planning for the character here (for series, companion books, etc.):
- Mírë develops, unexpectedly, a very strong bond with Carnistir and with Nerdanel as both are keen and quick to pick up on her survival tactics. Mírë falls for Carnistir just as quickly as the bond develops, and it terrifies her and she keeps this information much to herself.
- Conflict with her father as he comes to visit, and she does her best to downplay the happiness she is feeling while there. Afraid that he will call off the engagement if he feels that she isn’t miserable.
- Her infertility comes to light unexpectedly and not at her own volition as her grandmother openly exposes her to Carnistir and both their families.
- Carnistir learns which of his brothers it was that stabbed her, and gets physically confrontational with her father as he gets to see the abuse for himself finally.
- Both later on make the decision to marry in secret so there is nothing either of their fathers can do to try and squash the engagement.

Indaba, My Children- Review
Indaba, My Children, is a book that compels you to reimagine Africa ,it’s history and the origins of the black man. No- he is not the missing link between ape and humanity ,as previously suggested by “respectable” men of science. Throughout the book, the author emphasizes that little is known about the Black man’s culture ,customs, traditions and religion. This can be attributed to all the strict laws which govern the  accessibility , dissemination and acquisition of knowledge in Africa. Very few wise men and women are chosen as “Custodians of tribal history”. These individuals are then tasked with the grave responsibility of being guardians and repositories of all of Africa’s secrets and wonderful mysteries.
Custodians of Tribal History are sown to secrecy through intense rituals and blood oaths. They are never to reveal some of the sacred wisdom which has now been passed down to them- to the average Tom, Dick and Sipho. “Vey little knowledge is passed on to common people and nothing is ever disclosed to strangers” (p.654). The author believes that  this impeccable shroud of secrecy surrounding Indigenous African Knowledge  is a major contributing factor to inequality and to the racism that has caused much havoc and heartache in the past. He believes that if there were a better understanding between black and white, much bloodshed could’ve been avoided. (He uses Dingana and the death of Piet Retief to illustrate this point). Credo Mutwa, therefore implores the white man to exterminate his ignorance and arrogance and for once learn and understand the black man for what he truly is- How he thinks , the beliefs and philosophies that guide his thinking, his actions and much more. “The African can only be understood in terms of the strange workings of his own mind and those who do not appreciate this may as well refrain from studying the African” (p.655).
Indaba, My Children is thus an attempt to paint a portrait of Africa that the world has never seen before. To demystify the notion that the black man of Africa is a Kaffir- (“ A man without a soul , an unbeliever and a person who can never see the paradise of Allah” - Arab definition as detailed in p.656  ) who has contributed nothing to the advancement and development of humanity at large. This is achieved by taking the reader on a captivating and thrilling adventure through the annals of time. From the very beginning of time when a great nothingness engulfed the earth. To the very first goddess , Ninavanhu-Ma who created the very stars, mountains and oceans and then went on to give birth the human race. We get a glimpse of tribal life in precolonial Africa - the good the great and the not so good.
Women play a very significant role in this great piece of literature. Throughout the story we have many great heroines and rounded female characters. Women can be seen in positions of leadership ,as chieftains and emperors. They are presented as wise , strong and authoritative. There is a synergy and cooperative spirit that governs the men and women. Force and violence against the female body are extremely frowned upon and even punishable by death. Women can therefore practice autonomy over their own bodies and even choose to turn down suitors and marriage proposals.
Tribal law  governs the people and absolutely no one is above it. For the preservation of all the laws, customs and traditions of the tribes- everyone must obey all the laws that have been clearly  set out. The laws are very strict and they pertain to matters such as- Behavior,  rituals , adultery, sex before marriage, theft , murder , abortion ,rape and overall conduct. There are about one hundred such laws and they often contradict those which have been superimposed on Africans by foreigners. When a law is broken a suitable punishment is carried out by the “Tribal avengers”. The punishments are very crude and unforgiving, they are the grimmest part of life pre-colonial life. According to Tribal Law, anyone under 25 years of age is still considered a child and is strictly forbidden to marry or to partake in any form of sexual activities. Failure to adhere to this law is punishable by death.
Polygamy is shown as a normal part of life. Most men take more than two wife's and chiefs really have no limit. The author states that : “ A fallacy dear to many people is that polygamy is practiced as a sign of wealth and prestige” (p. xviii). He cautions that that is very far from the truth. According to the coveted high Tribal Law “ A  man must have no relations with his wife during her periods of menstruation or during the entire period while she breastfeeds a baby... Opposition to polygamy encourages extensive immorality and  destruction of Bantu family life and traditions. p.633” . It is believed that the males semen poisons the baby's  milk. Thus polygamy is crucial in these situations, it ensures that these sacred laws will not be broken. It is also worthy to note that polygamy is not only practiced by males. Yes, a female who goes up the ranks and becomes chieftainess , gets a whopping three husbands all to herself! To top it off , she has to ask for their hand in marriage!
Hair plays a very important symbolism. The “sicolo” hairstyle is worn by married women, usually of royal blood. Different tribes can be identified by their unique hairstyles. “The Strange Ones” are said to have “hair that looks as yellow as corn” and they are identified by their strangely silky , long and shiny hair. The Arabs or  “The Feared Ones” are identified as having “fuzzy hair and long beards”.
Slavery , something that was almost alien to Africans , becomes very rampant shortly after the arrival of the first ship. Life as we know it takes a horrid and bitter turn. Suddenly , human beings are sold and traded off like cattle. Fear and terror reign supreme and it seems that the very gods have turned their backs on the black man and woman of Africa. Men and women are made to fight and slaughter each other as a very eccentric and sadistic means of entertainment for the Strange Ones. Human beings are farmed and breed like pigs, to ensure an overflow of good quality slaves. At times, just for fun or experimentation. This dark period in the history of Africa, make the harsh punishments under Tribal Law seem very merciful and humane. The Strange Ones had traditions that were very macabre and blood-chilling. For instance, when their emperors died, he was buried along with his living wife and half of his slaves!  There is also mention of traitor tribes, who betrayed the black race by banding together with the Strange Ones as well as the slave-raiding Arabi and sold off millions of African men and women to save their own backs. And also for gaining wealth and favors from the straight-haired foreigners.
Christianity is first introduced by the arrival of the  “Potugeesa” in page 521. It is a completely foreign and alien concept and only symbolized by the statuette carried by the foreigners. “ ...ten more of the aliens emerged from the forest led by the one wearing a dark-brown  robe reaching to his ankles. He was carrying a staff on the top of which was a bronze statuette of a man of some race, nailed to a cross of wood by his hands and feet ”. Africans lived a life in harmony with nature and were guided by their gods , and various traditions and customs. They could discern right from wrong and governed themselves accordingly.
Vusamazulu Mutwa breaks his sacral oath of silence as a high witchdoctor and chosen custodian as a last and desperate attempt to save the dying knowledge and customs of his people. “Why are we expected to abandon our way of life- our culture and traditions- and suddenly adopt others which are extremely strange to us? p.691 ” . In fear of Africa being turned into “a soul-less carbon copy” of her colonizers, Mutwa bears it all. “Oh! my indolent and gullible Africa- the superior aliens glibly talk of bringing “the light of civilization” to your shores. And yet the only civilization they can bring is one infected with physical,  moral and spiritual decay p.691”. Mutwa, believes that by bringing forth Africa's not-yet- forgotten past , we can weave a better understanding and corporation between Black and White, and dispel blatant mistruths and strongly held beliefs such as the one published in the Sunday Times “...The White man is superior to the Black, because apart from a few crude drawings in crude caves, nothing cultural, scientific and social has ever been achieved by a black...” (E. Morris,  Johannesburg, on August, 1962 ).
Indaba My Children is truly a work of genius. Its written in a compelling and enchanting style that is on a league of it’s own. The reader is thoroughly entertained and goes through a whirlwind of emotions ranging from amazement , pity , fear and anger to name a few. “A person  who is not familiar to Africa and its people might find it difficult to understand this story, let alone read between the lines p.529” It does not follow the “classic”, western three-act structure of story-telling and the perspective of the story-teller jumps back and forth between the main characters, the author and even animals! Parts of the story are told from the point of view of the animals. This draws the reader in the mind of these beasts and it is a powerful way of showing that animals have a mind and consciousness of their own. It also signifies the sacred relationship between the pre-colonial African and the animals in his environment. This story is said to be “...a strange mixture of historical fact and legendary fantasy, a strange mixture of truth and nonsense”. This story is not intended only as a means of entertainment, but is also educational in that it is said to embody tribal history and law. It is written in a way that it can be enjoyed by both old and young.

Supernatural season 1 review (part 1, with a little summary)
Link to part 2:
As Carly just said, some weeks ago she finished to watch the last season of Supernatural (if you've never seen or heard about this TV series, I'm sorry to inform you that it has 15 seasons, yeah, crazy) and for some reason she wanted to rewatch every single episode from the beginning, with me. I'm not really into TV series and I haven't watched many, but I accepted because I thought I couldn't leave my teen years without making this thrilling experience.
We've just finished the first season (I don't wanna know when we'll finish the whole show, I'll probably spend the next two or three years on this) and I collected some opinions about it.
I was informed about the storyline and the contents, nevertheless the very beginning of the first episode quite shocked me. For those who don't know, the first scene is about the murder of a woman by a supernatural creature, which gives start to the narration because from then on her husband and their two sons, Sam and Dean, dedicate their life to hunting that demon and all kinds of supernatural creatures they find on the way, so that every episode is devoted to a different "hunt", as they call it. The background storyline, in the first half of the season, is the search for Sam and Dean's father, who is somewhere missing hunting that demon that killed his wife, while in the second and final part the family gathers in order to be stronger to eventually fight it.
Of course the supernatural creatures they hunt are different every time, and I appreciated that the authors had a great fantasy to invent or desume them from local traditions and myths: Sam and Dean fight all kinds of demons, ghosts, animals and even people and, being the first season, you learn how to defeat them with the protagonists and feel deeply involved in their job. What they're doing, freeing the world from evil, feels so right that you can even easily understand and excuse their continuous breaking the law and lying, also because every episode has a happy ending and all the people involved end up trusting and thanking them. Moreover, the general skepticism they meet really contributes in making the story realistic and believable, making unbelievable, but still true, everything the brothers find on their way and making us feel like we know something secret to most of other people.
I've just said "job" ... Well, they call it job but in fact they never get paid and I wondered many times how they can live or travel all around the USA on a beatiful car without any money, but, you know, that's just fiction. By the way, they really travel a lot to catch supernatural events, it could probably be interesting to draw a map of their journey...
The only aspect I have to criticize is that the episodes are not so linked by a sort of "fil rouge", but Carly reassured me that the next seasons will be much better also under this point of view.
Talking about her, I highly recommend to watch this show with someone, and better when you're not home alone, if you get frightened easily like me, because some scenes are quite scary.
It's of course a thriller/horror series, and other themes, such as love, are touched, as far as I can say at this point, just to contribute to the characterization of the protagonists. I can never tell what is my "favourite thing" out of a group, so I won't say what's my favourite episode because I couldn't choose, but I'll make an effort and confess my favourite character so far is Sam.
He's the younger brother, and he's always been an outsider in his family: while his father and Dean thought hunting supernatural creatures was their duty and activity for life, he decided to leave them to have a "normal life" studying at University. This dream vanishes when Dean convinces him to come back with the family because their father is missing, but Sam never really quits thinking about studying. Also because the "hunting life" means never settling down, never building strong relationships (while before leaving he had a girlfriend), and Dean, apparently convinced they must dedicate their life to hunting, seems to underestimate the choice he forces Sam into. Of course it's not Dean's fault, but maybe he should've been more comprehensive about what his brother was going through. So, Sam often seems to be more sensitive and wise than his brother, and I say "seems" because I also think Dean hides much more of his personality and feelings which I hope will emerge in the next seasons. I feel like he experienced somehow similar struggles, but he knew how to make hunting fun, and he is able to show Sam that their life could be much better than he expected. Together they make an amazing team, always supporting and taking care of each other, because they are so different that they find help in the other one every time.
Family is certainly the main motive of the first season: Dean gathers Sam and eventually their father together, but it's not that simple as he had imagined. Every family has some hidden issues, and when the Winchesters start hunting together Sam can't stand John's domineering attitude, to which Dean is completely used, because his only desire is to emancipate from him and show him his worth. That's the power of the last episodes: you can fully understand Sam wanting to create his own future but also willing to follow his family and do the job he's destined to. But you can also understand Dean (or maybe you'd want him as a friend since he's so fun!) who loves his brother and father so much he has to be strong to support them. You will even understand some of John's actions, because at the end he made all his choices in the name of the love for Sam and Dean, even if not without mistakes.
So, if you haven't watched Supernatural already, go and do it because you'll grow with these two boys and you will slowly grow fond of them (or at least you'll know how to defeat a demon speaking Latin, which could always come in handy).
Can't wait to see what's happening next…
- Irene 💕

the  mbti  type  estj  is  represented  by  the  executive,  a  person  of  great  fortitude  who  emphatically  follows  their  own  sensible  judgment.  they  serve  as  a  stabilizing  force  among  others,  able  to  offer  solid  direction  amid  adversity.  this  personality  type  are  representatives  of  tradition  and  order,  utilizing  their  understanding  of  what  is  right,  wrong,  and  socially  acceptable  to  bring  families  and  communities  together.  embracing  the  values  of  honesty,  dedication,  and  dignity,  people  with  the  executive  personality  type  are  valued  for  their  clear  advice  and  guidance,  and  they  happily  lead  the  way  on  difficult  paths.  taking  pride  in  bringing  people  together,  executives  often  take  on  roles  as  community  organizers,  working  hard  to  bring  everyone  together.
at  first  glance  the  mention  of  honesty  might  seem  out  of  place  for  lazarus  but  there  is  a  beauty  in  being  a  manipulator:  it  doesn’t  inherently  mean  you’re  always  lying.  he  is  very  much  the  type  to  stick  to  the  letter  of  the  law,  whether  or  not  it  flies  in  the  face  of  the  spirit  of  the  law.  the  spirit  of  the  law  provides  a  kind  of  gray  area  to  be  argued  for  or  against  an  action,  to  follow  the  law  to  its  letter  is  to  provide  no  wiggle  room  for  a  case  to  be  made  against  you.
overall,  this  is  a  spot  on  evaluation  of  how  lazarus  is  perceived  by  others  and  how  he  hopes  to  present  himself.  the  mention  of  traditionalism  and  order  is  a  solid  affirmation  of  both  his  dedication  and  also  the  pull  of  the  hierophant  card  for  him.  the  world  is  on  the  precipice  of  change  and  he  intends  to  ignite  the  dynamite  to  shake  it  up,  as  well  as  lead  his  faction  through  with  the  fewest  incidents  possible.  this  goal  of  their’s  is  not  one  that  is  as  easy  as  point  a  to  point  b  but  there  is  something  to  be  said  for  the  efficiency  with  which  he  approaches  the  task  at  hand  and  the  plan  he  has  crafted.

type 8, wing 9 — the diplomat. eights  are  charismatic  and  have  the  physical  and  psychological  capacities  to  persuade  others  to  follow  them  into  all  kinds  of  endeavors  —  from  starting  a  company,  to  rebuilding  a  city,  to  waging  war.  eights  have  enormous  willpower  and  vitality  and  they  feel  most  alive  when  exercising  these  capacities  in  the  world.  they  use  their  abundant  energy  to  effect  changes  in  their  environment,  to  leave  their  mark  on  the  world,  and  to  keep  that  environment  and  other  people  from  hurting  them  and  those  they  care  about.  at  an  early  age,  eights  understand  that  this  strength,  will,  persistence,  and  endurance  are  qualities  to  develop  in  themselves  and  to  look  for  in  other  people.  as  well,  eights  with  a  wing  type  nine  fear  being  hurt  by  others  and  avoid  situations  in  which  they  have  less  control,  generally  preferring  to  be  in  positions  of  leadership.  to  guard  themselves  against  threads  and  to  control  their  own  destiny  leads  to  developing  a  sense  of  independence  at  a  young  age.  diplomats  defend  themselves  by  building  emotional  walls  and  denying  vulnerabilities.  these  people  tend  to  be  naturally  energetic  and  confident,  see  a  variety  of  different  perspectives,  fear  being  controlled  by  others,  and  tend  to  be  seen  as  stubborn  or  rigid.
lazarus  avery  could  not  be  summed  up  more  perfectly  than  the  description  provided  by  the  enneagram  test.  though  it  lacks  mention  of  tradition,  it  highlights  his  need  to  lead,  his  desire  to  keep  his  fears  hidden  and  prevent  them  from  being  realized,  indicates  his  potential  as  someone  worth  following  into  battle,  and  his  appreciation  for  those  of  high  wisdom  and  high  intelligence.  being  classified  as  a  diplomat  is  a  boon  to  his  ego  and  serves  as  a  reminder  for  himself  that  he  is  in  the  right  place,  at  the  right  time  and  he  is  doing  what  is  right  for  the  people  he  cares  for  most  and  for  a  majority  of  the  wizarding  community  at  large.  they  should,  as  far  as  he’s  concerned,  follow  the  sentiments  that  the  americans  hold  and  to  institute  more  stringent  codes  around  the  international  statute  of  secrecy  in  britain.  removing  the  muggle  influence  from  the  wizarding  world  is  desperately  important  to  the  survival  of  their  kind.  let  it  be  noted  that  their  kind  here  means  purebloods  and  not  the  wizard  as  they  are.
𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬  𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫  𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭  ?
a  lawful  evil  villain  methodically  takes  what  he  wants  within  the  limits  of  his  code  of  conduct  without  regard  for  whom  it  hurts.  he  cares  about  tradition,  loyalty,  and  order  but  not  about  freedom,  dignity,  or  life.  he  plays  by  the  rules  but  without  mercy  or  compassion.  he  is  comfortable  in  a  hierarchy  and  would  like  to  rule,  but  is  willing  to  serve.  he  condemns  others  not  according  to  their  actions  but  according  to  race,  religion,  homeland,  or  social  rank.  he  is  loath  to  break  laws  or  promises.  this  reluctance  comes  partly  from  his  nature  and  partly  because  he  depends  on  order  to  protect  himself  from  those  who  oppose  him  on  moral  grounds.  some  lawful  evil  villains  have  particular  taboos,  such  as  not  killing  in  cold  blood  (  but  having  underlings  do  it  )  or  not  letting  children  come  to  harm  (  if  it  can  be  helped  ).  they  imagine  that  these  compunctions  put  them  above  unprincipled  villains.  some  lawful  evil  people  and  creatures  commit  themselves  to  evil  with  a  zeal  like  that  of  a  crusader  committed  to  good.  beyond  being  willing  to  hurt  others  for  their  own  ends,  they  take  pleasure  in  spreading  evil  as  an  end  unto  itself.  they  may  also  see  doing  evil  as  part  of  a  duty  to  an  evil  deity  or  master.  lawful  evil  is  sometimes  called  diabolical,  because  devils  are  the  epitome  of  lawful  evil.  lawful  evil  is  the  best  alignment  you  can  be  because  it  combines  honor  and  dedicated  self-interest.  however,  lawful  evil  can  be  a  dangerous  alignment  because  it  represents  methodical,  intentional,  and  frequently  successful  evil.
it’s  important  to  know  in  the  detailed  results  breakdown  that  lazarus  got  a  30  in  lawful  evil  responses  and  a  28  in  lawful  good.  though  he  is  actively  on  the  wrong  side  of  the  argument,  he  still  perceives  himself  as  lawful  good  for  the  good  he  does  for  the  people  around  him,  who  are  close  to  him  in  some  way.  though  the  above  is  a  good  starting  point,  it  should  be  noted  that  there  are  a  pair  of  corrections  that  laz  would  make:
he  plays  by  the  rules  but  without  mercy  or  compassion  (  his  compassion  is  selective,  only  taking  special  care  of  those  who  care  for  him  ).
he  is  comfortable  in  a  hierarchy  and  would  like  to  rule,  but  is  willing  to  serve  (  temporarily,  so  long  as  it  gets  him  into  a  position  of  leadership  ).
ultimately,  laz  being  pegged  as  lawful  evil  is  wildly  accurate  and  though  his  perception  allows  him  to  view  himself  as  lawful  good,  there’s  no  doubt  that  he’s  evil  and  lawful  evil  at  that.  as  i  said  in  the  answer  regarding  his  mbti  result,  it  benefits  him  to  work  according  to  the  letter  of  the  law  instead  of  in  the  moral  gray area.

born  at  3:33,  the  height  of  the  witching  hour,  he  is  a  hurricane  of  personalities  meshing  together  to  form  a  formidable  beast.  a  scorpio  -  sagittarius  cusp  with  a  capricorn  moon  and  libra  ascendant,  lazarus  is  concerned  deeply  with  justice,  honor,  and  revolution.  his  is  a  sign  determined  to  do  what  is  right,  what  is  ultimately  good,  and  had  he  been  born  to  another  family  perhaps  he  wouldn’t  be  a  nuclear  weapon  in  the  arsenal  of  the  pureblood  cause.
as  a  sun  in  scorpio  and  sagittarius,  he  displays  the  intensity  indicative  of  both  a  scorpio  and  any  fire  sign.  the  combination  of  these  signs,  who  are  both  attuned  to  psychic  gifts,  are  blessed  with  a  sixth  sense  that  allows  them  to  get  to  the  heart  of  the  matter  which  manifests  in  lazarus’  talent  for  divination  (  though  his  early  readings  in  third  year  were  not  nearly  as  refined  as  they  are  now  ).  it’s  important  to  acknowledge  that  scorpios  have  intense  amounts  of  willpower,  incredibly  conscious  of  what  they  want  and  knowing  when  to  go  for  it  at  the  right  time.  they  are  powerful  strategists  and  can  have  incredibly  patience,  combined  with  their  staying  power  and  refusal  to  give  up.  scorpios  are  not  intimidated  by  anybody  or  anything  and  confrontations  are  not  a  problem.
his  capricorn  moon  combines  very  well  with  his  scorpio  /  sagittarius  sun  as  lunar  capricorns  tend  to  keep  their  emotions  in  check  and  do  not  favor  taking  unnecessary  risks.  capricorn  moons  also  tend  to  have  a  deep  respect  for  tradition  and  authority.  these  natives  are  more  likely  to  keep  their  lives  structured  and  well  controlled,  practically  dealt  with  instead  of  passionately  felt  which  leads  to  a  selectivity  in  romantic  attachments.  though  capricorn  moons  are  reserved  and  cautious,  they  tend  to  be  deeply  attracted  to  politics,  positions  of  leadership,  and  not  getting  carried  away  by  love.
the  libra  ascendant  indicates  an  active  love  for  creating  harmony  or  upsetting  balance,  contentious  beings  who  bring  a  particular  change  to  the  pursuit  of  either  war  or  peace.  these  people  tend  to  be  socially  active  and  find  it  natural  engaging  in  one  on  one  and  group  settings  alike,  similarly  they  find  it  easy  to  make  and  retain  acquaintances  but  close  friends  are  few  and  far  between.  their  particular  sensitivity  for  chaos  causes  them  to  be  selective  with  their  inner  circle.  libra  ascendants  tend  to  quickly  hone  in  on  the  many  sides  of  an  issue,  allowing  them  to  weigh  their  scales  in  the  manner  that  best  suits  what  they  need.  combined  with  the  resoluteness  of  a  scorpio  sun  and  capricorn  moon,  it  makes  lazarus  incredibly  decisive  about  the  choices  he  makes.

winter’s hearts
TITLE: Winter’s Hearts CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Chapter 43/? AUTHOR: nekoamamori ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine being Loki’s old friend/Lover in Asgard, but you left for Earth a long time ago. For all he knows, you might be dead, but you’re still alive and you’ve been working with SHIELD and/or the Avengers. RATING: T NOTES/WARNINGS:  Also on AO3: Click here
“Did you hear what we were discussing, Kyrie?” Thor asked once Loki had composed himself and sat up again. You kept your hand in Loki’s as you turned to give your attention to Thor.  You saw Loki’s smile and his hand squeezed yours gently.  He appreciated the gesture. He appreciated the small kindness.
You couldn’t touch the mortals without harming them.
You could touch Loki and Thor.  And Loki craved physical affection.  You knew that.  And you knew how hard it was on him not to initiate contact with you when he was obviously so used to doing so.
He was trying so hard not to push himself on you.  He knew you didn’t remember him, didn’t remember that he was your husband.  He wasn’t forcing you to resume that relationship.
Though it was obviously killing him.
“Eavesdropping is rude,” you informed Thor instead of answering his question.  It was easier to lie when you didn’t actually answer the question.
Thor boomed his laughter.  “You two have always been too similar for your own good,” he laughed.
“Why is that funny?” you asked him confused.  You’d just been avoiding admitting to something that was actually rude.
Loki chuckled. “I am the God of Mischief and Lies, darling.  That was an answer I would give if I wished to not divulge some piece of mischief,” he explained.  You couldn’t help giggling at that.
“Fine, I may have heard what you were discussing,” you admitted sheepishly.  “But I wasn’t trying to,” you added defensively.
Thor laughed. “I’m aware, sister dear,” he teased you and you couldn’t help smiling at him.  The boys had told you that you’d grown up alongside them, as Loki’s best friend and Thor’s adopted little sister.  You accepted without hesitation that your brother-in-law was allowed to treat you like a little sister. It was different accepting him treating you like a little sister than Loki wanting to treat you like his wife.  Sister was a lot easier when you didn’t remember.  There were a lot fewer expectations.
“You think we should return to Asgard,” you said to draw the conversation back on topic.
“Would you three please speak English?” Stark growled from across the room. You all turned to stare at him.  Apparently none of you had realized you’d slipped into the language of your home. Allspeak was useful, but it wasn’t native, and when it was just the three of you, you all tended to slip into Asgardian.  You thought the boys liked the small taste of home.  They had to miss Asgard, living so far away.  “It’s really hard to eavesdrop when I can’t understand what you’re saying,” Stark grumbled.
You laughed in reply.  “That’s kinda the point, Shellhead,” you teased in Allspeak, and therefore in English.  The group looked amazed.  Apparently this kind of banter was common before you’d lost your memories.
“Whatever you say, Smurfette,” he teased right back and when back to what he was working on on one of the blue Jarvis screens.
You turned your attention back to Thor, the shellhead having been dealt with.  “We believe that Mother might be able to help with your memories.  She is the strongest healer in the realm and has done mind healing before.  I’m also sure your mother would like to see you.  She may have suggestions as well,” he explained while Loki held your hand, seeming nervous.  You’d heard his reservations.  He was afraid your mind would be unable to be healed.
“Are you sure you need to go back to Asgard right now?  We could really use your strength here with Red Skull on the loose again.  Hydra could strike at any moment,” Cap sounded worried at the prospect of you going back to Asgard.  Of losing three warriors when there was a threat.
A threat you’d been forced to unleash.
“I understand your concern, Captain,” Loki replied. Thor let him take the lead on diplomatic answers.  Loki’s silvertongue came in handy for such things.  The brothers worked well playing off of each other’s skills. They had centuries of experience at it.  “However, Kyrie is our best fighter.  Even you cannot argue that the warrior bred for battle and trained from birth, who had to go through those awful trials, is our best warrior.  If this threat is as dangerous as you say, then we need to be as strong as possible and we cannot do that with my wife unable to remember anything. We need her back at 100% and if my mother can help, then it is worth the trip home,” Loki told Cap firmly.
Cap sighed heavily.  “You’re right, of course.  I just wish you weren’t out of contact if we need help here,”
Thor nodded.  “We will tell Heimdall to listen for you.  If you have need of us, call to him and he will get word.  It is not the best solution, but we really do need to see if we can get Kyrie’s memories back to her,” he suggested.  Heimdall was the gatekeeper. He saw and heard everything.  If Thor told him to listen for the mortal’s call, he would.  You didn’t know how you knew any of that, but you knew it to be true.
Cap nodded.  “Alright then. You’re right that we need everyone at 100%.  Be careful, all of you.” You tried not to roll your eyes. Cap was overprotective of the entire team.  The entire team was overprotective of you, but Cap tried to protect everyone.  Even thousand year old gods.
Thor looked over at you and Loki.  “Shall we head out now?”
Loki nodded.  “There’s no reason to delay,” he agreed and stood. Your hand was still in his and he turned his hand to offer to help you to your feet.  You didn’t need the help, but you kept your hand in his as you stood.  Loki’s clothes shimmered to Asgardian, not his battle armor, but a green tunic and soft black pants.  Nothing fancy enough for full-court, but still looked fantastic.  You summoned a similar outfit, following Loki’s lead.  You’d apparently retained your magic skills and knowledge along with your fighting skills.  Loki gave you a warm smile and you relaxed, glad you’d chosen right.  He loosened his hand in yours, giving you the option to break the contact if you wished.  You squeezed his hand and couldn’t help but be pleased at how much his smile grew.
You made your way outside with the boys to a bifrost circle next to the tower.  Thor raised Mjolnir to first change into his armor, as that seemed to be what he wore most of the time back home.  That done, he called to Heimdall.  Loki’s arm went around your shoulders, holding you safely to his side, though you knew instinctively how to brace yourself for the feeling of weightlessness, of floating up into the sky without the power of your wings, of flying through the rainbow lights. You didn’t blame Loki for being protective.  It was in his nature after all.  And he was your husband, even if you didn’t remember.
You stepped out into a huge golden circular chamber in front of a giant of a man with a huge sword.  The man nodded his greeting to you all.  “Welcome home, your highnesses,” he bid you kindly. “Your horses are waiting.”
Loki looked relieved that you wouldn’t have to walk, or he wouldn’t have to teleport you.  He offered you his arm and you placed your hand on it, automatically.  “Come along, darling, let’s get you to Mother,” he told you gently.  You nodded and walked with him, but let him take the lead so you weren’t walking exactly side by side.  It seemed important somehow.  Loki sighed and seemed sad by that. “Tradition be damned.  You’re my wife, my equal,” Loki told you and shifted enough so you were walking next to him.
You didn’t know what to make of that statement so you remained quiet, taking in Loki’s statement, his anger at your actions.  Or more, at the tradition behind them.  Whatever it was.  Thor led the way and the three of you left the bifrost chamber.  Thor stepped aside to let you get a good look at the rainbow bridge and the city beyond.
The sight of the golden city sparked something inside of you.
Home.
You were home.

WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER’S ZODIAC?
Leo Facts
THE LION  |  JUL 23 - AUG 22         PROUD, BOLD, AMBITIOUS
Element: Fire Polarity: Positive Quality: Fixed Ruling Planet: Sun Ruling House: Fifth Spirit Color: Gold Lucky Gem: Carnelian Flower: Sunflower & marigold Top Love Matches: Libra
Bold, intelligent, warm, and courageous, fire sign Leo is a natural leader of the Zodiac, ready to blaze a trail, vanquish injustice, and make a name for themselves along the way. Blessed with high self-esteem, Lions know that they possess enviable traits—and they're proud of them. They don't believe in false modesty and will be the first to praise themselves for a job well done. But Leo isn't self-aggrandizing or unwilling to roll up those sleeves and do the work: this sign knows that in order to be respected and admired, he or she needs to put in the effort worthy of a leader.
But it's not all hard work for Lions. Intense and energetic, Leos thrive on social interactions and have no problem making friends—although pinning them down to spend time with you is another story. Leos put themselves first, and will turn down a plan that doesn't fit with their agenda or idea of fun. This trait has gained them an unfair reputation for arrogance. But on the flip side, when a Lion chooses to spend time with you, it's genuinely because he or she wants to.
Leos are passionate in all pursuits, including relationships, and take it upon themselves to be the best partner you've ever had. They love grand gestures, and they want to show the world how attentive and caring they can be. They also can't resist flashiness and often buy their partner the biggest and best presents. Leo is an adventurer, seeking to balance an intense life of social obligations and travel with plenty of downtime to relax and luxuriate. Work and outward appearances matter to this sign, and they're willing to do whatever it takes to gain a job title or workplace status, even if it means temporarily sacrificing their precious leisure time.
Benevolent with their time and attention, Leos are never cliquey, always showing friendliness and politeness to everyone. While almost everyone else is entranced by the Leonine personality, Leos are their own harshest critic and consider each day a challenge to be the best, brightest, and boldest Lion they can be.
"If you know the way, go the way and show the way—you're a leader."
Birth Chart Summary - August 1, 2000 born at 12am in Leith, Scotland
Sun in Leo
There's an unmistakably regal air to Solar Leos. These are dignified--even noble--folk. Leos have a reputation for being conceited, but think again. Leos do feel important, but this generally takes the form of wanting to change the world in some way--to make the world a better place. They are generally motivated by affection for people, and often have big dreams and plans to make people happy.
Generally, Leos are hard-working. After all, they are attracted to the good things in life, and they know they have to work to get them. It is sometimes difficult to imagine Leos as go-getters if you happen to catch them in one of their languid moods. These people can sleep in, laze around, and luxuriate for long periods of time. However, when they do get to work, they do it with intensity and determination. In this way, they are not unlike their symbol, the lion. The worst thing you can do to a Leo is accuse them of bad intentions. Displaying behavior that makes them think you don't appreciate them runs a close second. These happy, jovial people become mighty hurt when others don't see them for their noble intentions.
Loyal, and sometimes rather traditional, Leos are, after all, a fixed sign. They'll hold on to situations and people for a very long time before they give up. There is an unmistakable idealism to Leo's view of the world and the people in it. Often, Leos have a very noble inner code that they answer to. Although on the surface, Leos appear rather confident, they can actually be some of the most humble souls around. They are the first to blame themselves when something goes wrong. Once again, it's the Leonine self-importance at work, and this characteristic works in unexpected ways. Instead of being the conceited, self-absorbed show-offs of reputation, they are usually very self-aware, self-conscious, and, yes, even humble.
Moon in Leo Depending on other positions in the chart, Moon in Leo people are not necessarily outgoing. When they feel comfortable, they do like being the center of attention. That is, they like being in the "spotlight" in the comfort of their own homes and with family and friends. They enjoy entertaining others, and often take on the role of comic. Lunar Leos often feel a need to organize, and even control, their families and friends. They have an inner mission to set things right, and generally like to oversee the goings-on in their little circle. This is a rather creative position of the Moon. At the very least, Moon in Leo people want to create and entertain. They can be rather lazy at times, and a little bossy too. Generally, though, they have a deep need to treat others fairly and justly. Lunar Leos require lots and lots of love and care in order to function well in the world. When they feel slighted, these people can be dramatic in their emotional displays. When their pride has been hurt, they are given to big scenes and sulking. This rarely happens in public, however. Lunar Leos are far too concerned about their image to make splashy scenes outside the comfort of their own homes. In public, they prefer to take things in dignified ways. At home, however, they're given to big displays of emotional drama. These scenes generally don't last too long, however. Lunar Leos are often personally popular folk who are valued for their integrity and strong sense of justice. Generally, it is easy to reason with a Lunar Lion. Appealing to their well-developed sense of fairness usually works well.
Ascendant In Taurus Slow, steady, and capable are adjectives that we can safely attach to individuals born with a Taurus Ascendant. These natives have tremendous stamina and staying power. They're often quite loyal to those they care about. Although they generally don't come on strong, they have personal presence; and they fairly radiate stability. The sign on the Ascendant generally reveals how people start anything new. Taurus, by nature, is resistant to change. It can be difficult to sway Taurus rising natives--they're often rather stubborn and fixed in their ways. Their first responses are to feel things out, not in the way a Pisces might attune to their environment, but in the realm of the five senses. They have well-developed sense of smell and touch, and respond to the material world. Theirs is a practical approach to life. Security is one of their foremost considerations before undertaking anything new. Taurus rising natives are often quite cautious and careful. With a fixed sign on the Ascendant, they are not known for their flexibility. Rather, they possess determined single-mindedness. More than most, Taurus rising prefers the "good things" in life. Self-indulgence can be a weakness for many with this Ascendant. Often collectors in some way, Taurus rising natives place a lot of value on their material possessions. Taurus rising individuals prefer to dress in quality clothes with a comfortable feel to them. They are rarely ostentatious in their presentation. Many have strong and sturdy physiques. Often rather possessive in partnership, these natives won't easily break up their relationships. Although they are not particularly jealous, they view their partners as their personal property. Intensity and loyalty are especially important to Taurus rising natives. These are highly sensual people who prefer the comforts that a one-to-one, stable partnership offers. Although Taurus rising individuals value harmony and calm, their partnerships may be on the passionate side. Taurus rising natives are often very comforting to be around. They have a stability about them that is soothing, and an inner harmony that is attractive.
WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER’S MORAL ALIGNMENT?
Lawful Good
While strict in their prosecution of law and order, characters of lawful good alignment follow these precepts to improve the common weal. Certain freedoms must, of course, be sacrificed in order to bring order; but truth is of highest value, and life and beauty of great importance. The benefits of this society are to be brought to all. Creatures of lawful good alignment view the cosmos with varying degrees of lawfulness or desire for good. The are convinced that order and law are absolutely necessary to assure good, and that good is best defined as whatever brings the most benefit to the greater number of decent, thinking creatures and the least woe to the rest.
Characters of this alignment believe that an orderly, strong society with a well-organized government can work to make life better for the majority of the people. To ensure the quality of life, laws must be created and obeyed. When people respect the laws and try to help one another, society as a whole prospers. These characters strive for those things that will bring the greatest benefit to the most people and cause the least harm.
These characters have a strong moral character. Truth, honor, and the welfare of others is all-important. They are convinced that order and laws are absolutely necessary to assure that goodness prevails. Lawful good beings will not want to lie or cheat anyone, good or evil. They will not stand for treachery and will not let obviously dishonorable people use their own honor against them, if they can help it. They will obey the laws and customs of the area that they are in, but will attempt to find legal loopholes to disobey a law which is clearly evil or unjust.
Lawful good characters are group and order oriented, and will cooperate with authority in all cases to promote the common weal. Not all lawful good beings view the cosmos with an equal desire for lawfulness and goodness, so there is no such thing as a perfectly balanced "lawful good" attitude (nor a perfectly balanced attitude for any other alignment, for that matter). In general, however, a lawful good character promotes the ideals and rights of the majority over those of the individual (and this includes himself as well as others) and upholds the rights of the weak and oppressed members of society, who should be allowed to reap society's benefits with equanimity. The lawful good being feels this is the best way that all members of society can enjoy the rights of existence together. Life is important to the lawful good being, but life is not exclusive of order, and vice versa.
When will a lawful good character take a life? A lawful good being kills whenever necessary to promote the greater good, or to protect himself, his companions, or anyone whom he's vowed to defend. In times of war, he strikes down the enemies of his nation. He does not interfere with a legal execution, so long as the punishment fits the crime. Otherwise, a lawful good character avoids killing whenever possible. He does not kill a person who is merely suspected of a crime, nor does this character necessarily kill someone he perceives to be a threat unless he has tangible evidence or certain knowledge of evildoing. He never kills for treasure or personal gain. He never knowingly kills an innocent being.
Here are some possible adjectives describing lawful good characters: friendly, courteous, sensitive to the feelings of others, scrupulous, honorable, trustworthy, reliable, helpful, loyal, and respectful of "life, love, and the pursuit of happiness."
Well known lawful good characters from film or literature include: Luke Skywalker (Star Wars), Mister Spock (Star Trek), Hermione Granger (Harry Potter), and Superman (DC Comics).
WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER’S ENNEAGRAM?
Type 8 - The Challenger
Taking charge, because they don't want to be controlled
People of this personality type are essentially unwilling to be controlled, either by others or by their circumstances; they fully intend to be masters of their fate. Eights are strong willed, decisive, practical, tough minded and energetic. They also tend to be domineering; their unwillingness to be controlled by others frequently manifests in the need to control others instead. When healthy, this tendency is kept under check, but the tendency is always there, nevertheless, and can assume a central role in the Eight's interpersonal relationships.
Eights generally have powerful instincts and strong physical appetites which they indulge without feelings of shame or guilt. They want a lot out of life and feel fully prepared to go out and get it. They need to be financially independent and often have a hard time working for anyone. This sometimes necessitates that the Eight opt out of the system entirely, assuming something of an outlaw mentality. Most Eights however, find a way to be financially independent while making their peace with society, but they always retain an uneasy association with any hierarchical relationship that sees the Eight in any position other than the top position.
Eights have a hard time lowering their defenses in intimate relationships. Intimacy involves emotional vulnerability and such vulnerability is one of the Eight's deepest fears. Betrayal of any sort is absolutely intolerable and can provoke a powerful response on the part of the violated Eight. Intimate relationships are frequently the arena in which an Eight's control issues are most obviously played out and questions of trust assume a pivotal position. Eights often have a sentimental side that they don't even show to their intimates, such is their fear of vulnerability. But, while trust does not come easily to an Eight, when an Eight does take someone into the inner sanctum, they find a steadfast ally and stalwart friend. The Eight's powerful protective instincts are called into play when it comes to the defense of family and friends, and Eights are frequently generous to a fault in providing for those under their care.
Eights are prone to anger. When severely provoked, or when the personality is unbalanced, bouts of anger can turn into rages. Unhealthy Eights are frankly aggressive and when pushed, can resort to violence. Such Eights enjoy intimidating others whom they see as "weak" and feel little compunction about walking over anyone who stands in their way. They can be crude, brutal and dangerous.
WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER’S MBTI?
The Protagonist ENFJ-A
Protagonists are natural-born leaders, full of passion and charisma. Forming around two percent of the population, they are oftentimes our politicians, our coaches and our teachers, reaching out and inspiring others to achieve and to do good in the world. With a natural confidence that begets influence, Protagonists take a great deal of pride and joy in guiding others to work together to improve themselves and their community.
Strengths: Tolerant, Reliable, Charismatic, Altruistic, Natural Leaders Weaknesses: Overly Idealistic, Too Selfless, Too Sensitive, Fluctuating Self-Esteem, Struggle to Make Tough Decisions
Romantic Relationships
People who share the Protagonist personality type feel most at home when they are in a relationship, and few types are more eager to establish a loving commitment with their chosen partners. Protagonists take dating and relationships seriously, selecting partners with an eye towards the long haul, rather than the more casual approach that might be expected from some types in the Explorer Role group. There’s really no greater joy for Protagonists than to help along the goals of someone they care about, and the interweaving of lives that a committed relationship represents is the perfect opportunity to do just that.
Friendships
People with the Protagonist personality type take genuine pleasure in getting to know other people, and have no trouble talking with people of all types and modes of thought. Even in disagreement, other perspectives are fascinating to Protagonists – though like most people, they connect best with individuals who share their principles and ideals, and types in Diplomat and Analyst Role groups are best able to explore Protagonists’ viewpoints with them, which are simply too idealistic for most. It is with these closest friends that Protagonists will truly open up, keeping their many other connections in a realm of lighthearted but genuine support and encouragement.
Career Paths
Protagonists take a genuine interest in other people, approaching them with warm sociability and a helpful earnestness that rarely goes unnoticed. Altruistic careers like social and religious work, teaching, counseling, and advising of all sorts are popular avenues, giving people with the Protagonist personality type a chance to help others learn, grow, and become more independent. This attitude, alongside their social skills, emotional intelligence and tendency to be “that person who knows everybody”, can be adapted to quite a range of other careers as well, making Protagonists natural HR administrators, event coordinators, and politicians – anything that helps a community or organization to operate more smoothly.
To top it all off, Protagonists are able to express themselves both creatively and honestly, allowing them to approach positions as sales representatives and advertising consultants from a certain idealistic perspective, intuitively picking up on the needs and wants of their customers, and working to make them happier. However, Protagonists need to make sure they get to focus on people, not systems and spreadsheets, and they are unlikely to have the stomach for making the sort of decisions required in corporate governance positions – they will feel haunted, knowing that their decision cost someone their job, or that their product cost someone their life.
WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER’S ARCHETYPES?
44% Creative // 39% Caregiver // 17% Advocate
The Creative appreciates all beautiful things, in art and daily life. The creative act is essential to who they are.
Friendly, sincere, and compassionate, the Caregiver finds their reward in helping others. No one could ask for a better best friend.
The Advocate is the one everyone wants on their side. In the name of justice, they are not afraid to challenge authority or speak up for others.
WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER’S TEMPERAMENT?
75% Choleric // 25% Sanguine
This is a dynamic temperament combination! You are motivated and determined (choleric) as well as being extraverted and enthusiastic (sanguine). You are goal-oriented and strategic, but also friendly and flexible. If the choleric aspect is dominant, you will be able to pursue your goals and achieve success in whatever projects you undertake, while your sanguine nature allows for excellent people-skills and creativity. You are likely a motivational, and driven leader (choleric) with excellent social skills and interest in other people (sanguine). You value relationships (sanguine) though you still find certain types of people (weak, ineffectual, wishy-washy) annoying and you struggle with being kind and empathic, though you see the importance of that. If you are a choleric-sanguine, you will find that you have a great amount of energy and inspiration for initiating projects and can be highly focused on task completion as well. Although you tend to be very objective, pragmatic, and logical -- and may sometimes find yourself stepping on toes in the process of accomplishing the task at hand -- you will also have the interpersonal skills needed to resolve conflict and to help people work together and get along with one another. The creativity and sensitivity of your sanguine nature will enable you to be flexible when the situation calls for it. You are likely an energetic leader or manager, with superb debating skills: firmly convinced that you are right, you also have the "people-skills" necessary to convince others as well! With your quick insight, leadership and people skills you can be a successful entrepreneur, coach, manager, politician, etc.
Strengths and natural virtues
Active, assertive, bold, brave, capable, compelling, confident, competitive, determined, decisive, driving, dynamic, effective, energetic, enterprising, focused, forceful, goal-oriented, independent, magnanimous, opinionated, passionate, persevering, positive, pragmatic, productive, purposeful, quick, resolute, resourceful, self-motivated, sharp, strong-willed, vigorous, zealous
Weaknesses and natural vices
Aggressive, ambitious, angry, antagonistic, argumentative, bossy, combative, dismissive, domineering, harsh, impatient, intolerant, oppositional, prideful, pushy, relentless, shrewd, stubborn, unapologetic, unempathic, unsympathetic
WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER’S SOUL TYPE?
Performer
Performers are outgoing, charming people with a strong sense of fun. Because of their desire to communicate, they tend to be more talkative than many other soul types. If you are a Performer type, you’ll tend to be good with words and perhaps even show a dramatic flair when it comes to expressing yourself. You will generally feel comfortable being the focus of attention and may dress or behave in a way that attracts attention to you.
Your passionate nature and tendency to express strong emotions may make you appear a little volatile to more down-to-earth types. A caricature of this type would be an entertainer like Jim Carrey or Joan Rivers—both of whom share the Performer’s love of hamming it up.
More than any other type, the Performer needs the approval of others. You need to be told when you’ve done a good job. Speaking of jobs, you may find it unbearable to spend eight hours a day in a solitary cubicle—your need to connect with others is too strong. You may go out of the way to make your job fun or to entertain those around you just to keep things amusing.
Hunter
As a Hunter, you have both feet firmly planted on the ground. You are goal-oriented and will see a task through to completion, working in an orderly manner. You have a strong practical streak and may sometimes forget to take time to stop and smell the flowers. A Hunter type might drive through an ugly industrial area rather than taking a picturesque country road, just to shave a couple of minutes off the journey. Your pragmatic nature might result in your home being more functional than decorative.
Thousands of years ago, the survival of the tribe would have depended on your ability to stay focused on your mission to track down and catch your prey. This trait remains in Hunter types and is what makes them excellent providers for their families.
Your logical approach to life sometimes makes it hard to access your emotional and intuitive self. Like some Hunter types, you may be suspicious of those who base their decisions on gut feelings or something other than plain facts.
Your loyalty to your family, friends, or co-workers is strong, as is your ability to organize others. You may be drawn to team sports or group activities, though you can work alone equally well. Solitary Hunters occupy offices throughout the corporate world, while small groups of them can be found scaling mountains or otherwise seeking adventure and the chance to prove themselves. If you want to see Hunters in a larger group, simply take a look at a football team or a platoon of soldiers.

So I was recently pointed to this article at The Atlantic: “The 9.9 Percent Is the New American Aristocracy.”
There’s actually some good stuff in there — even if it’s been said before by folks like Toby Young (or, for that matter, Murray’s Coming Apart) — that I wouldn’t expect to see someplace so mainstream. Stewart even mentions assortative mating, which I would expect to be too close to the dreaded, taboo topic of heredity.
But, then, there’s the part where he says this:
From my Brookline home, it’s a pleasant, 10-minute walk to get a haircut. Along the way, you pass immense elm trees and brochure-ready homes beaming in their reclaimed Victorian glory. Apart from a landscaper or two, you are unlikely to spot a human being in this wilderness of oversize closets, wood-paneled living rooms, and Sub-Zero refrigerators. If you do run into a neighbor, you might have a conversation like this: “Our kitchen remodel went way over budget. We had to fight just to get the tile guy to show up!” “I know! We ate Thai takeout for a month because the gas guy’s car kept breaking down!” You arrive at the Supercuts fresh from your stroll, but the nice lady who cuts your hair is looking stressed. You’ll discover that she commutes an hour through jammed highways to work. The gas guy does, too, and the tile guy comes in from another state. None of them can afford to live around here. The rent is too damn high.
There’s a lot of this sort of stuff about how elite and “privileged” the author and his “9.9%” peers are, even as “we’ve convinced ourselves that we don’t have any privilege at all.”
But then, later in the post, he gets to the topic of Trump, and it’s what you’d expect:
The 2016 presidential election marked a decisive moment in the history of resentment in the United States. In the person of Donald Trump, resentment entered the White House. It rode in on the back of an alliance between a tiny subset of super-wealthy 0.1 percenters (not all of them necessarily American) and a large number of 90 percenters who stand for pretty much everything the 9.9 percent are not.
Cue the usual bits about how uneducated Trump voters are, American “anti-intellectualism,” “the poor man’s idea of a rich man,” “belligerent commitment to maintaining his ignorance,” et cetera. And, of course, ignoring that pretty much every “super wealthy 0.1 percenter” in the media or Silicon Valley was for Hillary. And then:
Did I mention that the common man is white? That brings us to the other side of American-style resentment. You kick down, and then you close ranks around an imaginary tribe. The problem, you say, is the moochers, the snakes, the handout queens; the solution is the flag and the religion of your (white) ancestors.
“Sure, the peasants have plenty of resentment, but they're all a bunch of stupid racists who blame the wrong people.” Sorry, but no. The tile guy he mentioned earlier isn’t against illegal immigrants because he’s “racist,” it's because he’s  struggling to stay solvent trying to do the right thing while his competition undercuts him by paying illegals sub-minimum wages under the table. And when he complains about the government failing to enforce the democratically-created laws prohibiting these things, he gets lectured about how he’s a racist, “diversity is our strength — just look at all these great Thai restaurants immigration has brought us.” Same with that stressed-out hairdresser who can't afford to live near where she works; she isn’t a moron, and it’s not black people she blames for her commute. People like these are mad at people like Mr. Stewart, and that's why they vote Trump.
All this hand-wringing about how ‘problematic’ all the privileges and wealth of his class are, followed by turning around and consoling his audience, members of this same class, with affirmations that those victims left behind by their meritocracy and it’s oh-so-enlightened policy choices deserve it because they’re wicked and stupid. They revel in the benefits that illegal migrants bring to their upper class, and then go on to claim to be morally superior for burdening their social inferiors with the externalities of these choices, and get angry at those inferiors when they dare to object. These aristocrats would be a lot less insufferable if they had some scraps of real noblesse oblige and loyalty to their subjects to go with their status.
Similarly, Stewart goes on a bit about the class elements in the decline of marriage, but nothing about how elites like him, to borrow Charles Murray’s term, increasingly failed to “preach what they practice,” and instead pushed “liberation” that removed what for many of the lower classes were guard-rails against failure modes, that, while the elites can avoid or afford, prove too frequent and ruinous to those without upper class advantages.
That said, there’s some definite positive elements here from my particular viewpoint. Because consider the traditional narratives about the “bad” hereditary elites of past generations, and their overthrow. Like the “idleness” of elites; parties at Versailles and all that. Then look at where Stewart describes how his class is discovering “that being an aristocrat is not quite what it is cracked up to be”:
Jay Gatsby might have understood. Life in West Egg is never as serene as it seems. The Princeton man—that idle prince of leisure who coasts from prep school to a life of ease—is an invention of our lowborn ancestors. It’s what they thought they saw when they were looking up. West Eggers understand very well that a bad move or an unlucky break (or three or four) can lead to a steep descent. We know just how expensive it is to live there, yet living off the island is unthinkable.
Or the standard narrative about the French Revolution and similar revolts, about how the common folk were quite naturally and justly resentful of the aristocratic elite and thus spontaneously took action, and it was not at all about a rising rival proto-elite stirring up such resentments in order to use the peasant masses as foot soldiers to help them sieze power. Then contrast, in Stewart’s tirade against Trump and his supporters, where he asserts:
No one is born resentful. As mass phenomena, racism, xenophobia, anti-intellectualism, narcissism, irrationalism, and all other variants of resentment are as expensive to produce as they are deadly to democratic politics. Only long hours of television programming, intelligently manipulated social-media feeds, and expensively sustained information bubbles can actualize the unhappy dispositions of humanity to the point where they may be fruitfully manipulated for political gain.
And, of course, he goes on to make deliberate parallels between the present “90%” and their Gilded Age equivalents where “[a]n appreciable number of them could be found at Ku Klux Klan rallies.” But he then goes on to admit that “The best revolutions do not start at the bottom; they are the work of the upper-middle class.”
So we have a fellow admitting that he and his class are an increasingly hereditary, increasingly entitled aristocracy… but that’s okay, because they’re “the people of good family, good health, good schools, good neighborhoods, and good jobs… so far from the not-so-good people on all of these dimensions, we are beginning to resemble a new species.” That one of the big problems for this New American Aristocracy is their refusal to admit they’re an aristocracy. That the peasants can be made to know their place and not resent the wealth and privileges of their betters… by squashing any rivals who try to increase or play upon such resentment as political tools in intra-elite competition, as past aristocracies failed to do strongly enough. Not to mention blame any problems on the real “evil elites,” the Crown “1%.” Otherwise, they’re “next in line for the chopping block.”
Of course, the problem that our elites are still pious, puritanical adherents to — and global missionaries for — an unsustainable, insane non-theistic religion remains. But this is the first real sign I’ve seen of those who are “The Man” being willing to admit it, and defend it.

Morning Notes
1.
I remember benefiting for years from the articles on DesiringGod.org and John Piper’s YouTube content but I walked away in 2014 after his response to the MV Sewol sinking was to post, ‘It Is Well with My Soul,’ as though to say, ‘Hey Christians even have songs for drowned kids.’  He wrote a beautiful and intense poem called ‘The Children’ that talks about abortion, war, abusive parents, but I just went, ‘This is “Football Christianity” and racist.’  In retrospect there are all kinds of flaws in all kinds of Christians and all kinds of gestures and jokes that they use in their communications to relate to their audience.  John MacArthur made this joke about Fresca that made me wonder whether Fresca has some sacred ‘angel-chemical.’
I feel really alienated and more Millennial than ever lately.  Stupidly in retrospect I decided that the proper response to the MV Sewol posting was to walk away from DesiringGod and even now I’ve come to have a hair-trigger rebellious rage-reaction to John Piper postings even while believing ‘Coronavirus and Christ’ 100%.
‘You said it’s good to eat dinner with your mom and dad but you also wrote that BIll Cosby’s a great guy just b/c he worked long hours and said “personal responsibility.”
I realize now that the first ‘Christian novel’ I ever tried to write was ‘Flowers on Water’ which was about the Sewol, edubusiness, Korea, America, teenage girls and college-aged young women, our relationships to the past generation, and the ways in which people my age tried to shelter or weather when we seemed to lack either economic franchise or the ‘voice’ through which the communicate to other groups the essence of Millennial identity.
I don’t want to talk about Millennial identity b/c I’m literally hoping to find out my ‘everlasting name’ in the next few days but there was something about us; we might have been disappointments to our parents yet thus far the coming post-constitutional-democracy military dictatorship hasn’t smashed our skulls en masse against the rocks - ‘happy we’ - even while Xi Jinping suddenly switched from talking about how PRC doesn’t want to take over the world (which I believe they can and which Mao their c/Creator said again and again he desired to), to talking about ‘heads bashed bloody.’
I don’t like weaving like this but when I was at Rutgers in 2004 I wrote a love-letter of sorts to a Shanghainese girl who years later I frankly saw on FB doing all these bed-pics then I went to the library, remembered the color of the light in the windows of the houses in her Central Jersey hometown near the vast Chernobyl-sarcophagus-looking Rutgers basketball stadium and I went to H-Mart in Illinois wondering, ‘Where’s Tiffany __ today?  I bet she’s Xi Jinping’s government-issued mistress.’
Today Christianity worldwide I observed was torn between apologetics and prophecy and Timothy Keller of Redeemer Presbyterian NYC wrote ‘Hope in Times of Fear’ and is a fantastic reader of Foucault, numerous other authors, and one of the most intellectually responsible Christians who does’t say stuff like, ‘Christians aren’t obligated to be interested in justice in this world b/c the Atonement already satisfied justice’ which is un-biblical.  Time was my favorite Keller sermon was about love (romantic love, ‘erotic violence honor-cult affection night and lady mentality’), and my favorite book of his was ‘Counterfeit Gods’ about the Second Commandment proscribing idolatry, and which throughout the years has made me wonder in my own life what’s an idol and what is a tool or coping-mechanism but if I’m being honest something happened around 2014-2015 that made me feel as if I had learned enough about the basics of Christianity and didn’t need to follow any father-figures or teachers anymore.  Felt I could learn more from ‘considering the beauty of the lilies’ in the form of a camcorder girl-group travel-show called ‘f(x) Koala’ my favorite reality-show.  They walked down the Champs Elysee and in those days Sulli / Choi Jinri reminded me of something or someone from my past but I didn’t realize then the beauty on their love and friendship was arguably not only synthetic and temporary but destined to be violently revoked by someone who decided that they suddenly wanted something else.
I remember reading Allan Bloom’s ‘Love and Friendship’ which was his swan-song in the hospital after the more famous ‘Closing of the American Mind,’ both of which are indictments of culture as well as theories of education via literary criticism and close-reading of one’s students.  Bloom said that an occupational hazard of teachers is hanging out with kids all the time and it is not that this ‘infantilizes’ them - though parents also get infantilized by their kids - but the more severe criticism is that the teacher develops ‘mental Grecianness’ or thinks of themselves as God or else of their students as God.  Or, they think there is no God and everything is just a ‘classic garden’ in which kids grow up and, to call out myself as well, the teacher maintains his or her nobility and religious simplicity of character vis-a-vis life whilst believing in the soul besides and beyond heart, mind, body, but not connecting their conception of the soul to a Creator or a will or plan or design or desire on the part of this Creator for that soul and its existence in Time in this world.
Anyway I have never planned my novels out as much as I like to think and I got lost in the Millennial ‘authoritative paragraph’ fetish-trap where for a moment I stopped being the problem-child and became older than my parents as regards and eagle-eyed ‘critical appreciation’ of reality and certainty of convictions.  My writer friend Miles Klee used to say years ago, of American ochlocracy I guess and our corybantic national non-conversation or fake conversation, ‘Where’s the school principal to lay down the law?’
I for years wanted to be this principal and think now about a girl I went to high school with whose essay I criticized really aggressively but who went on to Harvard GSE and became Ass’t Principal at like 27.  I for years was interested in University of Oregon, Vanderbilt, and later came to feel that the best schools for PhiEd are probably a) Korean b) Christian.  I admire Sunkyunkwan(sp?) University for being like 900 years old and Bethlehem College and Seminary in Twin Cities.  Today the best teacher training institutes I think are almost certainly in East Asia somewhere as these people made a generations long mathematically emplaced-in-history ultra-sacrificial starve-for-nuclear-weapons commitment to protecting their children.  I’m not sure how to describe it in my pure style but it is like the scene in ‘Letters from Iwo Jima’ where Lt. Gen. Kuribayashi is growling about how he is going to maim and traumatize US Marines and break their moms’ hearts for as long as possible b/c he knows at the bottom of his soul’ (as Tolstoy would say), that those American moms probably believed the Japanese kids were ‘n----- boys’ and ‘life unworthy of life.’  I was also interested in how one of the best novels of the moment James Salter’s ‘All That Is’ took the destruction of the ‘Superbattleship’ Yamato to be more meaningful than the A-bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  The Japanse sailors covered in oil, singing in the sea, till the munitions-magazine in the battleship with ‘shells the size of coffins’ explodes and, although it’s traditional high explosives of some sort and not nuclear warheads, it sends a ‘biblical pillar’ of fire something like a mile in to the sky and the flash of the combustion is visible from Kyushu.
I have no idea what Teachers College, Harvard et al. train their educators to be like except apparently psycholinguistics turned out to be important but I still want to write them off as training kids to be mentally hypercapitalist Chinese these days; and an atheistic philosophy-only with the love skimmed off version of corporatist football Christians.
I’m not against Protestantism at all but still remember reading in National Review of a book called ‘Evangelical Catholicism’ which used the phrase, ‘failure of Protestantism as a global force.’  Not to be glib and Philip Roth-y and I hate that I’m not writing in my pure style right now but, did Protestants cause Covid?  I think they were burying non-white kids’ bodies in the school yard, beating orphan juvenile delinquents to death.  I for years reflected on a Mormon practice of banishing teen boys at 14-15 (their brain would not be developed adequately to unction as a high-powered fully adjusted adult till about 27), to hoard the teen girls for the older men, which is something that could turn many hearts and minds from Christianity straight to Foucault.
Anyway the ‘crux’ or Joycean ‘epiphany’ moment of ‘Flowers on Water’ was where the protagonist let his live-in-girlfriend (Millennial) go out with her friend for the night and was drowsing over Wikipedia and Google books reading about education and happens upon a poem called ‘Flowers’ from a Christian California Teacher’s Almanac from 1881, in which the teacher was talking about life and death and it amounts in a verse form to the best commencement-address imaginable, because it is saying to these young people, ‘Heaven and Earth, life and death, “fragrance from life to life,” rather than talking about their CV’s or social activism or anything like try windsurfing or public service (Biden) or don’t do everything you can just b/c you can (Merkel).
The protagonist thinks, ‘God is sovereign in all things.’  Saves the poem as ‘Flowers 1881′ on his PC which later breaks Hong Sang Soo style; and also thinks a bit about the fact that this almanac discusses teaching-problems w/r/t assessment that appears to be identical to those 135 years later in America.  (I see now, however, that many of these American Indian or Mexican students who might’ve been reading naive and sentimental poems, Alcott, Stowe, Psalms, stories about virtuous Old Testament women with their teachers in 1881 today would be mentally human-trafficked by movies, Marxism, and MS-13).
But I still didn’t know how to end the novel at all.  The protagonist wanted to go to Lake Baikal with his girlfriend and Arkangelsk (Archangel City in Irkutsk Russian Federation).  I was obsessed with Krystal Jung in those days due to her singular ‘Persian’ eyes, bump-nose, et cetera.  I sort of abandoned ‘Flowers on Water’ b/c in autumn ‘14 they made ‘Naegeon neomu sarangseuroun keunyeo’ which has translated in various ways and when I was watching this I stopped thinking about sovereignty and started thinking about ownership itself.  ‘Somebody’s Daughter’ and ‘She Is Mine.’
I remember thinking, ‘The musical direction for My Lovely Girl Episode One would be “maestoso morendo.”’  Everyone is traumatized; the jokes are unfunny; Krystal and Rain lost sleep, gained weight, as if their accustomed process of living had failed.
However, the best moment in MLG to me is the final episode in which the male protagonist has given up writing ‘candy-pop’ to compose a dreamy music-vision of something like seeing someone’s face in the sky.  Sena realizes Soeun (two of the most beautiful names imaginable) is probably alive on the other side of death in this world.  IDK if I ought to add this but I kept getting mad at American-Koreans with their kneejerk opposition to adoption and want to cite a ‘banned’ book Elizabeth Kim’s ‘10,000 Sorrows’ about racial honor-killing and orphan-hate but I gave that up since I believed that making humane orphanages with loving faculty / parents would be a better solution to the consumer model of adoption.  However, I have never had the opportunity to study the psychology of orphans and only know that women tend to burn out quickly in care-roles at such places.
The thing about the Sewol Ferry and apologetics in the Covid era is that all this unfair stuff happened and the dead are bound away and Christianity makes people feel really good with its incredibly beautiful heritage and super-massive stockpile of wisdom and lessons - kind of ‘common grace’ - but to say Christianity is interested in better happier kids, a fairer system, a more beautiful existence for humans in this world isn’t really Jesus Christ but Barack Obama, who in retrospect was clearly defending the entitlements of the already extremely powerful whilst p-zzing America’s E. Asia policy.  But I don’t really know if I am right or wrong about these things politically; I just felt as if Obama was only ever saying good things about anyone while leaving hundreds of millions of children behind worldwide and worshipping China and failing to understand Korea’s concept of the teacher which is why Race to the Top didn’t satisfy either.
I’ve sometimes felt - ‘if I were God’ - that I would induce people through ‘whisper in the heart’ to vote against HRC in 2016 because of a) abortion and ACB and b) Obama thinking that making a lie of the Syria ‘red line’ policy was sth he had any moral right to do.  I actually know a bit about clandestine American ops in Syria but last I checked they didn’t launch an AGM at Assad’s bedroom and I actually think that’s a mistake b/c he has directly ordered mass-murder, child-rape, much else and it’s a clear case of ‘first degree murder conviction in absentia para-judicial execution or capital punishment’ it’s not even war; it’s arbitration.  So many Democrats think war is just sad but lawful ‘beareth not the sword in vain’ capital punishment is diabolically evil.  It also feeds in to my ‘nuke Babylon Milwaukee’ theory of present history where everyone is lying about everything and have decided that America’s letter-of-the-law institutions were so bad that it’s better to go back to gangsterism.
Then I’m taken to ask for being darkhearted...
The only reason not to is the whole world today’s the Roman Empire and there is some terrible ‘legitimate mandate’ by which Christians and Christian rulers have to respect other rulers no matter what.  Constantine spread ‘the ancient faith’ throughout the world; OTOH Nero killed a lot of poor people with mass-arson and it struck me just now many of those people probably a) loved Nero for going to outer space while he killed them using assets their labor had generated and b) didn’t die from burning but from deoxygenation.  But the whole crux of Christianity is the Resurrection and Eternity and I am mad at myself because I can’t even concentrate on my ‘little stories.’  I promised ‘sis’ I’d quit K-pop but then everything else fell apart and I wish I could go back to listening to IZ*ONE’s ‘Open Your Eyes’
