Heat cramps
Heat cramps are painful, brief muscle cramps. Muscles may spasm or jerk involuntarily. Heat cramps can occur during exercise or work in a hot environment or begin a few hours later.
Heat cramps usually involve muscles that are fatigued by heavy work, such as calves, thighs, and shoulders.
You are most at risk if you are doing work or activities in a hot environment -- usually during the first few days of an activity you're not used to.
You are also at risk if you sweat a great deal during exercise and drink large amounts of water or other fluids that lack salt.
Causes of Heat Cramps
The exact cause of heat cramps is unknown. They are probably related to electrolyte problems. Electrolytes include various essential minerals, such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. They are involved in chemical reactions in your muscles. An imbalance can cause problems.
Sweat contains a large amount of sodium, and drinking fluids with inadequate sodium content may result in a serious low-sodium condition called hyponatremia. Some factories have virtually eliminated heat cramps in their workers by supplying salt-enriched fluids.
Symptoms of Heat Cramps
Muscle spasms that are:
Painful
Involuntary
Brief
Intermittent
Usually self-limited (go away on their own)
When to Seek Medical Care
Heat cramps can be quite painful. Consider seeking medical attention if the symptoms do not go away with rest and after restoring fluid and electrolytes.
Call your doctor if these conditions develop:
If you are unable to drink sufficient fluids because you have nausea or are vomiting, you may need IV rehydration with normal saline.
Heat cramps may accompany heat exhaustion.
If you have more severe symptoms of heat illness, including dizziness, fatigue, vomiting, headache, fast heartbeat, shortness of breath, or a high temperature (greater than 104 degrees), get immediate medical care.
Heat Cramp Treatment
The doctor will check you for more severe heat illness and possibly provide you with IV fluid rehydration.
Home Remedies for Heat Cramps
Heat cramps usually go away on their own, but you can try one of these home remedies:
Rest in a cool place and drink a sports drink, which has electrolytes and salt, or drink cool water.
Make your own salt solution by mixing 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon table salt dissolved in a quart of water.
Salt tablets by themselves should not be used. They can cause stomach upset and don't adequately replace fluid volume lost.
Preventing Heat Cramps
If you work in a hot environment, you may experience heat cramps during the first few days on the job. Once you get used to the environment, and make sure you have adequate fluid replacement, you are less likely to have problems.

Weather-Related Illnesses
Tumblr media
** Pictured above (from left to right) are examples of frostbite, trench foot, and heat rash. **
Cold-related illnesses
Chilblains
Caused by repeated exposure of the skin to temperatures just above freezing to as high as 60 Fahrenheit. The cold exposure damages the capillary beds (groups of small blood vessels) in the skin. The damage is permanent and the redness/itching typically occurs on cheeks, ears, fingers, and toes, and will return with additional exposure.
Symptoms: redness, itching, possible blistering, inflammation, possible ulceration in severe cases.
First aid: Avoid scratching; slowly warm the skin; use corticosteroid creams to relieve itching and swelling; keep blisters & ulcers clean & covered.
Frostbite
An injury to the body caused by freezing. It causes loss of feeling and color in the affected areas. Most often affects the nose, ears, cheeks, chin, fingers or toes. It can permanently damage tissues, and severe cases can lead to amputation. In extremely cold temperatures, the risk of frostbite is increased in people with reduced blood circulation and who are not dressed properly.
Symptoms: reduced blood flow to hands & feet (fingers & toes can freeze), numbness, tingling or stinging, aching, bluish or pale waxy skin.
First aid: Get into a warm room as soon as possible; do not walk on frostbitten feet or toes unless absolutely necessary (as this worsens the damage); immerse the affected area in warm -- NOT HOT -- water (temp should be comfortable to the touch by unaffected areas); warm the affected area using body heat (such as warming frostbitten fingers in your armpits); don't rub or massage the frostbitten areas since this can worsen the damage; don't use heating pads, heat lamps or stoves, fireplaces or radiators for warming since numbness of affected areas can lead to burns.
Hypothermia
Abnormally low body temperature caused by prolonged exposure to cold temperatures. Body temperatures that are too low can affect the brain, affecting the victim's ability to think and/or move well. This can make hypothermia dangerous as the victim may not realize it's happening and will not be able to do anything about it before it's too late.
Symptoms: Early symptoms are shivering, fatigue, loss of coordination, and confusion/disorientation. Late symptoms are no shivering, blue skin, dilated pupils, slowed pulse & breathing, loss of consciousness.
First aid: Move the victim into a warm room or shelter; remove wet clothing; warm the center of the body first (chest, neck, head & groin) using an electric blanket (if available), or you can use skin-to-skin contact under loose, dry layers of blankets, clothing, towels, or sheets; warm beverages can help increase body temperature (but avoid alcoholic beverages, and do not try to give beverages to an unconscious person); after body temp has increased, keep the victim dry and wrapped in a warm blanket, including the head and neck; if the victim has no pulse, begin CPR compressions.
Trench Foot
Also known as "immersion foot," this injury of the feet results from prolonged exposure to wet and cold conditions. It can occur at temperatures as high as 60 Fahrenheit if the feet are constantly wet. Injury occurs because wet feet lose heat 25 times faster than dry feet -- to combat the heat loss, the body constricts blood vessels to shut down circulation in the feet. Skin tissue then begins to die because of lack of oxygen and nutrients and the buildup of toxins.
Symptoms: reddening of the skin, numbness, leg cramps, swelling, tingling pain, blisters/ulcers, bleeding under the skin, gangrene (foot may turn dark purple, blue or gray).
First aid: Remove shoes/boots and wet socks; dry the feet; avoid walking on feet, as this can cause further damage.
Heat-related illnesses
Heat cramps
Heat cramps can occur when one sweats too much during strenuous activity, which depletes the body's salt & moisture levels. Low salt levels in muscles can cause cramping, though cramps can also be a symptom of heat exhaustion.
Symptoms: muscle cramps, pain, or spasms in abdomen, arms and/or legs.
First aid: drink water and have a snack that replaces carbohydrates and electrolytes (such as sports drinks) every 15 to 20 minutes; avoid salt tablets; get medical help if the victim has heart problems, is on a low-sodium diet, and/or has cramps that don't subside within 1 hour.
Heat exhaustion
Heat exhaustion is the body's response to an excessive loss of water and salt, usually through sweating. It's most likely to affect the elderly, people with high blood pressure, and those working in hot environments.
Symptoms: headache, nausea, dizziness, weakness, irritability, thirst, heavy sweating, elevated body temperature, decreased urine output.
First aid: Remove victim from the hot area and give liquids to drink; remove unnecessary clothing (including shoes and socks); cool the victim with cold compresses or have them wash their head, face, and neck with cold water; encourage them to take frequent sips of cool water.
Heat rash
Heat rash is an ailment caused by excessive sweating in hot, humid weather.
Symptoms: red clusters or pimples or small blisters usually appearing on the neck, upper chest, groin, under the breasts, and in elbow creases.
First aid: keep the rash area dry; apply powder to increase comfort; don't use ointments and creams.
Heat stroke
This is the most serious of the heat-related illnesses and occurs when the body can no longer control its temperature -- the body temperature rises rapidly, the sweating mechanism fails, and the body is unable to cool down. When heat stroke occurs, body temps can reach 106 Fahrenheit or more in just 10 to 15 minutes. It can cause permanent disability or death if emergency treatment isn't received.
Symptoms: confusion or altered mental status and/or slurred speech, loss of consciousness (coma), hot/dry skin or profuse sweating, seizures, very high body temperature, fatal if treatment delayed.
First aid: move the victim to a shaded, cool area and remove outer clothing; circulate the air around the victim to facilitate cooling; place cold, wet cloths or ice on the head, neck, armpits, or groin, or soak the clothing with cool water; cool the victim quickly using any of the following methods:
with a cold water or ice bath (if possible);
wet the skin;
place cold, wet cloths on the skin;
soak clothing with cool water.
Heat syncope
Heat syncope is fainting and/or dizziness that usually occurs when standing for too long or suddenly standing up after sitting or lying. Factors that may contribute to heat syncope include dehydration and lack of acclimization.
Symptoms: fainting (short duration), dizziness, light-headedness from standing too long or suddenly rising from a sitting or lying position.
First aid: sit or lie down in a cool place; slowly drink water, clear juice, or a sports drink.
Rhabdomyolysis
This illness is associated with prolonged physical exertion and heat stress. It causes the rapid breakdown, rupture, and death of muscle. When muscle tissue dies, electrolytes and large proteins are released into the bloodstream, which can cause irregular heart rhythms, seizures, and damage to the kidneys.
Symptoms: muscle cramps/pain, abnormally dark (tea or cola-colored) urine, weakness, exercise intolerance, asymptomatic.
First aid: stop activity immediately; drink more liquids (preferably water); seek immediate care at the nearest medical facility, if possible, and ask to be tested for rhabdomyolysis (a blood sample analyzed for creatine kinase).

possible tmi but i’ve got hella period cramps rn and i was wondering if we could get some bf tim drake comforting his s/o during their cramps 👉👈
omg not tmi at all i was already planning on writing this cus im in the same situation anon </3
Tumblr media
tim's worry only increased as you failed to answer his third call in the last 5 minutes.
after checking your location (which you kindly shared with him and vice versa), he figured you wouldn't mind if he used the key under your welcome mat.
checking the date today, he made a quick stop to the convenience store near your place and bought what he knew to be your favourite chocolate and snacks. and extra cold bottles of water for good measure.
you haven't moved from your spot in your bed since this morning, moaning and groaning as the pangs of pain only seemed to worsen as time goes on.
tim found you in a fetal position, clutching your lower abdomen for dear life.
he frowned, seeing you in pain made his heart clench. he put the plastic bag down, as he approached you.
"hey, babe," tim's gentle voice rang through your ears, and in a split second you felt his hand on your hair.
"hi, tim," you sat up, though the pain made you move slower than you would, letting tim meet you halfway.
"missed you," you wasted no time in briefly wrapping your arms around his torso, taking notice of the plastic bags on the floor.
"what'd you get?"
"your favourites," tim joined you on your bed, pulling up your laptop and entering your password.
he put on a show he knew you'd often watch when you get like this, then picked up the plastic bag.
"you want a panadol?" tim took out a bottle of water and a bar of chocolate.
"no, thank you," you rested your head on his shoulder, while he simultaneously put an arm around you.
you grabbed the water and chocolate, "love you,"
"love you too."
you spent the rest of the day like that, lazing around with your boyfriend, and getting your much needed rest as he'd run around your place preparing proper meals for you.

Period pains
What can I say? They’re a bitch-
Modern!Kid PiratesxReader
Relationship: 4 boyfriends, one pain-induced girlfriend
Warning: It’s period, it’s messy and emotional. Maybe a little nfsw.
~*~
“FuckfuckfuckfuckFUCK!”
That was the only thing that could be heard in your shared apartment.
The men in your life were prepared this time for what was to come.
It was one hell of a painful menstrual cycle and even Kid was told to not tease the affected party.
Pillows fluffed, blankets warm and snacks to your disposition.
They organized themselves on who has better patience. Day one was Wire’s. He was good at keeping you comfortable and making sure to help you run a few errands by going to the grocery store and get your favorite things just so he could cuddle and kiss you better. You’d both watch drama series and binge your favorite shows.
Day two was Killer’s. You were an emotional crying mess when you had the blonde doing everything and anything to keep you happy. From cooking and cleaning to massaging your feet and lower back. Depending on how bad it was- he’d have ice packs and warmers for your disposition. Usually you’d lean for ice packs, you had a personal muscle heater that could cuddled you silly while spoon feeding you ice cream. Day two with Killer was have him dot on your and treat you like a Queen.
Day three was Eustass Kid.
And for good reason.
“You fuckin’ suck, Eustass.”
“Oh yeah? You know what’s not sucked!?”
“What!?”
“MY DICK!”
Cats and dogs.
But he loved it.
Normally he couldn’t argue with you because you are fragile but- when it’s day three of your period?
With the pain and the anger came the horny. And he liked how depraved you’d get with him.
“Ya know…getting railed helps with the pain.”
Of course, Kid knew this. Sure, it was a little messy and aftercare was twice as necessary but it was worth it. Their Angel deserved the best.
“Did you change the mattress’ fitted sheet?”
You nodded yes. Best credit card purchase you’ve done so far and you made sure all the beds in the apartment had one.
“How bad does it hurt? If it’s too much, you know the drill-“
“Pain Pill, load of water and wait half an hour?”
“Atta’ girl.”
You did.
And as requested- you were thoroughly railed and since the harder he went, the less it hurt…you told him to just go all out.
As busted as you would feel, you had your little victories. When he emerged out of your room- clawed, scratched, bitten and bruised.
And make the others up their game.
Day 4 was Heat’s. He had it easy. The pain was there but your feelings and emotions were on check, your stomach was a little better and it was the day for self-care.
You’d both have facials, do your hairs, buy make up and clothes online, plus he’d do coffee shop runs for you and the others if they were around.
The best part of day 4 was having Heat play video games with you. He is barely around during the day since he works at night and needs to pass out. But he always takes the time to dedicate himself to you like this.
The last day of your period would be cuddled up together, sleeping with your entourage of big intimidating men and their dotting, in their own style of course.
Kid would have his nails painted by you and he did yours. Headband on and mud mask on for at least 10 minutes.
Wire would be making popcorn and binging 4 hours straight a series they all wanted to knock out. He was next in line to get his eyebrows plucked and detailed by you.
Killer would make chocolate covered treats and give you kisses, while you got to taste what the cook was making and made everyone jealous. In return, you’d sit down and braid his hair, telling him how good he’s been to you.
And Heat would be on your lap, when he came home from whatever errand he was doing. He’d enjoy your fingers deep into your scalp and hum happily whenever your scratched a very particular spot. He’d also have deep conditioning applied to his hair just so you could both rinse it off later in the shower.
It can be the worse week physically.
But the men in your life had it covered.

batman: track and field au
author's note: i just miss track and field varsity even though i wasnt even that good... and ive been thinking about batman track and field au for FOREVER. so today i wrote a bit 📝
things u need to know: bruce is not batman. he's a coach at a school where the rest of the justice league teaches. yes, they're still the justice league. and yes, his robins still end up as vigilantes. jason is 15 in this; the joker hasn't gotten to him yet. also i added some characters ahead of the timeline bc i love them :/
Jason stumbles over from the finish line, grinning and sweat-drenched. And then his face screws up in sudden distress, and he promptly wobbles and collapses onto the hot stadium mat.
A half-formed sound of alarm—
Bruce leaps over the bleacher railing and sprints.
A poor, well-meaning race official gets there first, but Bruce shoulders him roughly aside and crouches by Jason. Jason has turned on his side, holding his right knee tight to his chest and making little pained gasps.
It tears at his heart. “Jason,” Bruce says.
Jason’s eyes are screwed shut, and he says nothing, but one of his hands reach blindly in Bruce’s direction and Bruce grasps it tightly.
“You were terrific, chum.” He squeezes, and feels the tremor that goes through his son. “Stretch your leg out for me.”
Jason shakes his head. “Hurts—”
“I know. I know. Please, Jay.”
It’s slow, and excruciating, but between the two of them they manage to get Jason sitting up, his leg extended straight against the ground. One hand of Bruce’s presses down firmly on the knee, and the other pushes his foot to flex, the metal spikes of Jason’s shoes digging hard into the callused flesh of Bruce’s palm. Jason leans back on his hands, spread flat against the ground, head tilted up to open, cloudless sky, exhaling drawn-out, shaky breaths.
The speakers blare out the next events—second call for Male C’s 400-meter hurdles, and third call for Female B’s high jump. The left side of the crowd begins clapping on beat for their star javelin thrower as she rocks back on her feet, once, twice, and begins bounding forward. Bruce makes a displeased noise. He hopes his throwers remember to pay attention.
A mosquito buzzes by Bruce’s ear and he shakes his head sharply to drive it away. The sweat has been beading at his hairline all throughout, and now it rolls torturously slow down his face. As his hands are otherwise occupied, he makes no move to wipe it, and does his best to ignore the unpleasant sensation.
At last, Jason’s breathing evens out. He tugs his leg gingerly away from Bruce’s hold, cheeks flushed with exertion and, doubtless, embarrassment. “Thanks.”
Bruce sits back on his haunches and wipes the sweat off his face. “Ready to stand?”
Jason raises a hand, wincing as he tests the muscles of his leg. “One sec.”
Bruce nods shortly. Jason safe, his attention wanders over to the bleachers. Tim, thank God, is dragging Damian away from the high railing. Dick and Cass are eating lunch with much avidity—Dick’s best event, high jump, had just ended before Jason’s, and Cass seems to have just returned from shot put. Duke and Stephanie are nowhere in sight, and for a moment Bruce is alarmed, but then he spots them at the stage and relaxes. Duke must have won his high jump—he stands on the highest podium, and even from here Bruce can tell he’s grinning—and Stephanie is clicking away on the school camera next to the official photographer.
As he watches Stephanie turn the camera backward and attempt to take a selfie with Duke, there’s a tap on his thigh. Bruce extends his hand without looking and grasps the hand that interlocks with his, pulling Jason up with ease.
Bruce glances at Jason, and notes how he squints against the glaring afternoon. “Remember to reapply your sunscreen when you get back.”
Jason rolls his eyes. “Not everyone is ghost-white like you.”
“You do not have to be ghost-white to get skin cancer.”
Jason grumbles, but when Bruce raises an imperious eyebrow at him, he raises his hands in surrender. “Fine. Whatever you say, boss.”
“Good. And, Jay...” Bruce reaches out, tentative, and puts a hand on his shoulder. “I meant it. You did terrific.”
Jason beams, bright enough to outshine the day, and something in Bruce’s chest uncurls into warmth.

between being close with gem and having to help jimmy with his transition and gender stuff, am!fwhip has become the guy friend you can go to about Girl Stuff
Need something and one of the other girls isn't available? Fwhip probably has stuff like menstrual products and old bras/binders from gem or jimmy he just never threw away after gem moved to the cliffs full time and jimmy finished transitioning. Like it's all just there in a bathroom somewhere. He also has so many pain pills from his own issues that their just overflowing the medicine cabinet.
