Psycho Analysis: Dee Vasquez
Tumblr media
(WARNING! This analysis contains SPOILERS!)
“Turnabout Samurai” was always a case I skipped on my replays, because when I originally played the game I found it to be a tedious filler case loaded with bland characters and little plot progression. On my most recent playthrough, though, I realized how wrong I was; while the case is overly long and does require some obnoxious backtracking, its honestly an extremely fun and funny case that really helps develop Miles Edgeworth and flesh him out as a character, which kind of makes me baffled at my initial perception of the case as pointless filler. This is no “Turnabout Big Top,” that’s for sure, and that’s all the more apparent when we uncover who the true killer is.
Dee Vasquez marks a true turning point in the killers I the franchise. Frank Sahwit and Redd White are certainly not out of place in the series, but they are both one-dimensional goofballs. Not Dee; she’s an incredibly three-dimensional villain with motivations that go beyond simple greed and an actual sympathetic motivation for her crime.
Motivation/Goals: Dee Vasquez is actually rather interesting in that her motivation for murder has one of the first twists in the series: She had no motive. The murder was an accidental one in self-defense, as the victim Jack Hammer had come to her with the intent to kill her. When he did so, she shoved him off the steps and impaled him on a fence—something Hammer himself had accidentally done to another actor five years prior.
Tumblr media
It’s pretty interesting to think that there wouldn’t be another killing in self-defense until Spirit of Justice, and even then there’s a big twist to that too—but that’s a story for another time.
Breakdown: Fitting her terse and stoic personality, Vasquez actually has one of the single most understated breakdowns in the whole series, followed by her sadly and graciously accepting her defeat:
Tumblr media
That really is it, and honestly, it's all she needs. Someone with her demeanor losing her composure for even a moment like that is pretty impressive.
Best Scene: Vasquez actually gets one of the most unique scenes in the franchise, as at the end of the third day of investigating she lures Maya and Phoenix into her trailer, where she proceeds to call upon her mafia goons in an attempt to “erase” them.
Tumblr media
It’s pretty notable because the mafia goons actually get art here, and this is also the only time Vasquez’s mob connections are really brought up in any capacity as they aren’t mentioned during the trials, only getting briefly mentioned in discussions while investigating. It’s doubly notable because it gives Gumshoe one of his first “Big Damn Heroes” moments when he bursts in and saves our dynamic duo’s lives.
Final Thoughts & Score: Dee Vasquez is a really solid villain, and her case is where the series really grew the proverbial beard.
I think what’s most fascinating about her is how you only get some vague hinting at the relationships that surround the crime she committed, and the true nature of her relationship with Hammer is based entirely on hearsay from biased parties—can you trust what she says in regards to Hammer, considering she was blackmailing him and clearly had a great disdain for him for killing her possible lover? Can you trust Oldbag’s account of it being a tragic accident when she’s a Hammer superfan? It all makes her the sort of character where you can come up with multiple interpretations of her and have different levels of sympathy depending on how you view her actions. Like sure, it was in self-defense, but it becomes a lot less sympathetic if you see Hammer more as a victim of manipulation for something that wasn’t really his fault (although his willingness to frame his co-star Will Power out of petty jealousy certainly doesn’t make him look very good).
Helping this is just how grounded and low-key she is. She doesn’t really get wild, over-the-top reactions like some of the other killers, and while that may seem like a detriment in a series as silly as this, it actually makes her stand out a lot more especially with how later villains would become even more wild and wacky. It also helps build her up as a genuinely formidable opponent in court, and she’s actually a pretty tough egg to crack when you get her on the stand.
While I’m not going to pretend like she’s the greatest, most complex, or most tragic of all the villains (how can she be when characters like Ini Miney, Geiru Toneido, or Acro are around?) but for a first attempt at a more complex villain that isn’t just killing for the money, she’s a really solid one. A nice solid 7.5/10, I’d say. I think really her biggest problem is that the case immediately following hers features perhaps the single most sympathetic murderer in the original trilogy, as well as another stoic hardass villain who has a far more glorious breakdown, which leaves her being a bit overshadowed. Still, for what she is, she's a remarkably solid villain.

Dating post death kyle bc he is such a sweetheart <3
Dating FrankenKyle - Headcanons
Tumblr media
note: he’s so baby you’re so right. I’ve never done frankenkyle anything yet!!
+++
Being in love with Kyle before he regains the ability to verbalise things is a challenge, for sure.
You’re patient with him. He trusts that you will at least try your best to understand him, even if he’s making no sense to you.
He appreciates your willingness to care for him regardless of the state he’s in.
Kyle does everything in his power to show you he loves you, even though he doesn’t have the means to express it.
As soon as he regains the ability to talk, he says ‘I love you’ any chance he gets.
He makes up for the lost time when he wasn’t able to talk by telling you how much he loves you endlessly.
He also tells you how beautiful you are endlessly.
He’s a total guard dog. Making up for the time you were taking care of him, he takes extra care of you. He protects you. He’s a protector by nature.
He’s a very cuddly boy. He’s a big fan of physical touch.
When you sleep, he’s like a sloth, clinging onto you all night.
Even when you switch sleeping positions he finds a way to cling onto you again.
He’s a total goofball, but not intentionally.
Again, he’s relearning how to live, essentially. It’s kinda funny how he struggles with things, and he learns to laugh at himself instead of being angry.
You made it that way. You slowly made him understand that him being this way wasn’t embarrassing, but instead a natural consequence of being brought back to life.
He loves you just so damn much.
Like it’s crazy. The way he looks at you. Like you are the reason the stars shine brightly at night. You saved him from himself.
He would move heaven and earth for you.
Sex was awkward at first, but also it was kinda the only natural human thing he retained.
He understood that before anything else. Your bodies melded together like magic your first time.
His touch makes you melt. As strong as he is he is abundantly gentle with you.
He understands how to make you purr like a kitten.
Sex is just warm and sensual and in no way rough. He craves you and touches you in a way no one else has.
You both forget about everything else.
Kyle is just the best lover. He treats you so well and shows his gratitude for you. It’s intoxicating love.

on roshambo, the dreamer.
admittedly, i have the memory of a goldfish, and don’t remember things very well, so please note that whatever follows is probably only true of the roshambo that lives in my head (who also refuses to pay rent or get out), and not necessarily true of the ro in canon.
with that out of the way!
if i had to distil the essence of season 4 roshambo into a single theme, it would be “dreams”, or the lack thereof. there are two versions of ro that exist within my mind, defined by zam’s betrayal of mapicc and ro, the two versions henceforth referred to as pre-betrayal and post-betrayal.
pre-betrayal ro was many things: carefree, playful, perhaps even endearing to his friends. but, above all, he was the epitome of the idealistic dreamer. (well, about as idealistic as one can get on lifesteal.) in addition to his strange, jarring humour, i.e. the constant jokes about bodily fluids and the other gross things that make ro’s streams utterly unwatchable if you happen to be eating at the same time, ro had height and freakishly long limbs that made him clumsy. he’d seem almost like a silly little puppy, bumbling about, tripping over his own two feet every couple of minutes. he might even have been the type to daydream, spacing out during conversations (mapicc probably going “are you even listening, ro? i swear, if you’re thinking up another poop joke, i’m actually going to kill you.” and zam, in between his own laughs, helpfully adding that he would only stop mapicc a little bit). he’d be the type to get  distracted while grinding materials, solely because he thought of something that set off a tangent in his head.
this is not to say that pre-betrayal ro was all rainbows and sunshine, innocence and optimism. he was dangerous in his own right, and it would have been a costly mistake for anyone to take him for a fool. his active involvement in, perhaps even instigation of the petrification, as well as all of the duping he willingly partook in cannot be ignored. he may have seemed or, generously, really been a goofball, but the nature of lifesteal demands of everyone the willingness to hurt others, and i firmly believe that ro did have a selfish streak (here, including his teammates’ benefit, not just his own), even if he didn’t realise it.
it is difficult to explain, the way ro is a hopeful dreamer even if the rest of the server might not necessarily see him that way. this is, in my silly little head, how the petrification came to be. “isn’t it a shame?” ro, interrupting mapicc and zam’s conversation to lament the ephemeral nature of spawn, the kind of concern only an idealistic dreamer like him could bother to care, or do anything, about. dismissively, mapicc tells him to get his head out of the clouds, but zam (who i believe to be characterised by control and paranoia) sees how them being the ones to immortalise spawn can only be a win-win. with how spawn is literally the heart of the server, to permanently alter it would be an undeniable show of power, of control, over everyone else, because they probably won’t like it, but what can they do about it? and on the off-chance that everyone else does like it? well, for zam, there’s very little difference between being feared and being loved. and while ro may not have originally intended the immortalisation of spawn to be a display of power, his “darker streak”, so to speak, is more than happy to see it to adopt that more selfish intention. lastly, mapicc’s hands take those loose, floating ideas, seeing exactly how he needs to stitch them together to make them real, so he’s the one who suggests using obsidian. and thus, the petrification was set in motion.
and then, in standard zam fashion: he stabs them in the back, and runs.
mapicc is furious, of course. not because he didn’t see it coming, he did (this is zam he’s talking about), but because he didn’t think zam actually had the guts to do it. guess he didn’t know zam as well as he thought he did.
and ro? well, ro’s the only one who didn’t see it coming.
unintentionally insensitive, mapicc calls ro “naive”. ro grabs him by the neck, eyes glittering, and demands to know why mapicc kept zam around for so long and gave him so much, if he had always known that zam was going to betray them. mapicc’s silence makes ro cry.
ro cries more during the weeks that follow than he has the entire past year. mapicc knows he’s lucky if he can get ro to stomach anything at all, so he pretends to be asleep when he hears ro moving around in the kitchen at 4am, even though it’s the third time he’s had popcorn for dinner in five days. mapicc also doesn’t comment on how every single item in the base containing a hint of yellow (that mapicc himself hasn’t already smashed to shards) moves repeatedly between ro’s room and the trash can. one day it stops, and mapicc almost thinks they’re gone for good, until he realises that all ro’s done is paint over the yellow parts with red. mapicc averts his eyes when he feels ro staring at him from all the dark parts of their base, ro’s gaze digging into his back, as if trying to pry from him a confession that mapicc was going to be just like zam, and he was going to betray ro someday.
ro didn’t have a habit of keeping his summoned hands around, and for the most part he still doesn’t, except now mapicc can always see the outline of two hands, one in each of ro’s hoodie pockets. ro’s never actually showed them to mapicc, but some mornings mapicc finds him slumped over the kitchen counter with a bag of stale popcorn clutched tightly in his fist, one disembodied hand tangled in his hair, and the other held gently to his cheek. mapicc tries not to think about how the hands are wearing red and yellow adornments respectively, and mapicc definitely hasn’t ever stood in the doorway listening to ro quietly mumble his name and zam’s over, and over, and over again. (mapicc didn’t stick around the second time it happened.) (if he did, he might have seen the way ro watched mapicc leave with bloodshot eyes, intertwining his fingers with the mapicc-hand’s cold ones in a pitiful attempt at self-consolation.)
the first time ro sees zam since then, zam is tearing up the obsidian at spawn and replacing it with dirt. ro’s eyes can’t help but trail the obsidian blocks as zam tosses them away. can a wound that hasn’t begun to close reopen again?
there is hatred in zam’s eyes. ro knows, knows that he should have stopped there, should have let himself be fooled by the disguise, should have let that be closure and turn around and leave and do anything but poke further … but ro’s a god damn hopeless dreamer, isn’t he, and asking questions he doesn’t want the answers to is just what he does.
behind the hatred, zam offers a genuine apology, but there isn’t a sliver of the regret that ro desperately needs.
in a fit of grief, he kills zam.
the living nightmare that is post-betrayal ro becomes recognisable only by his physical appearance, and even in that respect, he has mutated so much. he no longer trips over his own two feet. every stride casually measured, ro gradating towards the splitting image of some kind of heavenly serpent. the way he carries himself now, every grand movement of his long, elegant limbs persuasively insistent and firmly coaxing, makes being around this version of ro stifling in every sense of the word. the jokes that come out of his mouth should, by all means, be hilarious. they’re the same jokes as before, contain the same words and the same punchlines, but it’s the detached and uninvested way ro delivers them now, as if he were reciting the lines for the sole sake of saying something, that makes it hard for anyone, even mapicc, to genuinely laugh at them anymore.
i don’t quite remember where i read this, but there was this brilliant idea that between ro and mapicc, even though mapicc seems like the mastermind, in truth, ro is the real puppeteer who’s pulling on the strings. i agree with this completely! despite how much it seems like it’s ro who’s entertaining mapicc’s violent tendencies, i believe it’s the other way round, where mapicc is the one playing along and giving in to ro’s insanity.
it might be because mapicc’s not confident that he actually has the option to say no to ro’s ideas anymore. zam’s betrayal tore apart everything ro had previously believed to be unshakable truth. (zam’s betrayal was likely glaringly obvious, yet ro was blind to it, perhaps because he’s so focused on looking at the big picture around him that he doesn’t notice the little things happening right next to him. but i also think, that even if he did notice, it’s unlikely that his idealistic nature would have allowed him to internalise the notion of betrayal enough for him to even consider that it could actually happen.) (i think that both zam and this version of ro have elements of paranoia deeply embedded within them, they just have different reactions. zam reacts to paranoia by actively trying to make sense of it, i.e. his signs, which are meant to help him “get out of his head” and work through his problems logically, fighting to take back the control that he lost. on the other hand, i feel that ro reacts to paranoia with fear, with passivity, and is likely to shy away and let it run its course because he doesn’t know how to fix it without making it worse. that is exactly what happens here. in a sense, post-betrayal ro is pre-betrayal ro, if the only thing he could ever feel is paranoia and helplessness, and it is then true that pre-betrayal ro is still somewhere within post-betrayal ro, but that might not matter at all with how irrevocably, deeply suppressed and locked away pre-betrayal ro is.) the only thing mapicc can predict about this foreign ro, is that he’s unpredictable.
and maybe, even if mapicc could “safely” leave ro, he wouldn’t, because he was there, forced to watch, horrified by what zam leaving did to ro. he’s not sure whether ro’s ever going to be mentally or emotionally capable of handling even the implication that mapicc’s thinking about leaving, and mapicc’s not going to take those chances.
that is, until he has no choice but to put ro down, the same way you set a miserably sick puppy, whose incurable condition eats away at it by the day, into sleep’s gentle hands. because ro’s not zam, doesn’t know how to fight his paranoia, and he’s not mapicc, who keeps his paranoia out by constructing walls of sheer rage. ro is just ro, is helpless against the paranoia that chews up his dreams and spits them out as nightmares, is both living through a nightmare and the living nightmare.
mapicc’s sword in his back cures ro of his paranoia.
the dreamer learns to dream again.

Hatomi+Rengoku Family Taisho secrets
I have so much written content on these fixations, here are some of Hatomi and the Rengoku family
Her favorite flowers are white plume blossoms and white lily. Senjuro brought over a branch as a toddler from the tree outside, offering it to her a a bouquet with the shyest smile on his face. Hatomi was touched by the gesture and could have cried from how sweet he was.
Because Hatomi had trouble going to sleep as a baby, her father Dmitri sang or hummed to her while carrying her to get her to sleep. Her mother Fumiye would hum or sing short and sweet lullabies in Japanese, but her father’s she remembered the most. Dmitri was an exceptional singer, a deep voice that carried well and for a long time as he sang old Russian lullabies he heard from other orphan children in his youth. Without fail it lulled Hatomi to a deep sleep.
She ends up making a habit that when Senjuro had a hard time sleeping, she began to hum to him as her father did for her. Later even singing some of those old Russian and Japanese lullabies she remembered. There are very few Russian ones that she remembers how they go or what they mean, but for the others she can’t fully recall, she hums the tune as the melody is engraved in her mind.
. She is not an exceptional singer, but has a distinctive soft tone to her singing, that anyone that hears it would know her calming voice. Shinjuro heard it a couple times on nights when he couldn’t sleep, and he heard her singing to Senjuro. Her voice brought out a quiet in him even when extremely inebriated, and he can’t help but stay silent and listen. It is soothing to a point where he doesn’t even drink from the sake bottle when he hears. Some of the Melodies are sad, and while Senjuro did not pick up on them, from afar Shinjuro could hear the mournful tone even while drunk. A sad man knows when another is in a silent misery.
While she does not sleep easily, once she is, good luck trying to wake her back up. She is a very heavy sleeper, and sleeps until she comes to which is usually a solid 7 hour sleep. Naps are hard for her because if she sleeps it is not half assed, and there is no possible way she can nap for just an hour or two. The few scares she has given Senjuro and Shinjuro were memorable ones, and for some reason the only one who was able to wake her up on the first try is Kyojuro due to his naturally boisterous nature.
Hatomi may not look the type, but despite her serious demeanor, she is a goofball around kids. She loves and will do anything to make kids laugh, no matter how silly or humiliating it is. Silly antics ensue, one moment she is doing dishes, the next she’s chasing kids around and threatening to bless them with the holy sink water.
Indulges kid Kyojuro in his strange habit of bringing home random things, sometimes bugs, rocks, knickknacks and his easy fascination. Senjuro didn’t like it when he brought bugs inside.
Senjuro usually was not picky but the one thing he hated was eating Kale as a child, refused to eat it raw or stewed because he would feel queasy after eating it. Shinjuro would get upset thinking he was wasting food, but Hatomi found a compromise. She one day took the kale outside and baked it. After sprinkling some salt she served the kale next day to Senjuro. Needless to say after asking him to try it, he loved it and proceeded to munch on all of it. It showed Hatomi’s willingness to compromise, to not fully coddle Senjuro but at least help him find a way to eat the kale in a way that was better for him.
When Senjuro was seven he showed interest in a slingshot, and so for his birthday Hatomi gifted him one as she had experience with them (As an archer, she was delighted to hear he wanted to). Showing him how to use a slingshot, first time trying it he hits the tree limb and it ends up ricocheting, hitting him square on the forehead. Cue him silently crying, trying not to complain but failing as Hatomi tends to him. (She is trying so hard not to laugh at his predicament, finding it ironic as she as a child did the same exact thing and her Grandfather laughed at her.)
The slingshot she gave him was one her deceased husband Kaito made for their son Genji once he got older. Unfortunately that would never come. Hatomi recalled the memory of watching him carve it, the focus he had while etching the design, and the conversation she had with him. He mentioned that he wanted to encourage Genji to practice, joking that at the very least he wanted him to be a better shot than his old man and take after something she was good at. It was a bitter sweet memory, she had some difficulty deciding on what to do with it, but reminisces that Kaito would have wanted to give it to someone who would make use of it, and appreciate it.
When Kyojuro begins his career as a demon slayer, many nights of his father ignoring him while Hatomi waits for him to come home after, usually cooking something and talking with him. She wanted to show him that he had support, and while his father never showed it, it was a gesture that helped ease tension.
Senjuro would get sick on occasion due to pollen, and Hatomi would be the main one to care for him when Kyojuro was out on missions. It helped him to focus to know she would watch over Senjuro
Kyojuro would sometimes get sick, but brush it off as if he weren’t. After years of chasing a little Kyojuro around to settle so she could treat him, she has developed a strategy to get him in a position where he cannot possibly argue, escape, or deny care. No it’s not rendering him unconscious as tempted as she is, but the tactic never fails even if Kyojuro is a young adult now. And yes it’s bribing him and then slight guilting him by saying if he stays sick he might get Senjuro sick
Both children had their little quirks when sick, but for Hatomi the worse Rengoku to deal with when sick was their Father. He both didn’t like to show he was sick, but when being tended to was so stubborn about it. He fell into a few fevers due to the alcohol and poor eating schedule. The first one he was very bitchy about it, more irritable and reactive to everything. Both as a way to show he wasn’t weak and on the more depressing side wondered why anyone should care about an old wash up like him. Hatomi knew but didn’t try to argue verbally, she just went about her duty and tended to him
Example
Shinjuro: Hell…..I feel so hot….this is shit.
Hatomi: *Dousing a new washcloth with cold water as she readies some miso*That’s a good sign, your body is trying to heal itself. Best to regulate your temperature…..It will help the fever, as well as some fluids in your system.
Shinjuro: *Glares at her weakly* I know ……how fevers work…..m’not stupid
Hatomi: *Internally* I swear you’re children are dealing with this far better….and far less attitude.
Lemme know what you guys think and if you want more, and feel free to ask questions!

Explanations for why I did the Cinnamon Roll Meme this way:
Looks like a cinnamon roll, is actually a cinnamon roll — Agumon, coz he's an adorable little dinosaur more likely to try the diplomatic approach than to jump immediately into fighting; Piyomon, coz she's an adorable pink bird who gives emotional support to her friends; Tachikawa Mimi, coz (especially after her growth as a person) she's a compassionate person; Kamiya "Kari" Hikari, coz she puts others first to the point of getting ill and/or injured solely coz she wants to not be a burden to them; Wallace "Willis" Williams, coz they cares 'bout the safety of random strangers & tries to solve difficult situations alone to avoid putting others in danger; Motomiya Daisuke, coz he refuses to harm his friends and he'll befriend you even if you've done something bad since he knows you genuinely regret what you did; Hida Iori, coz she's a semi-pacifist who despises killing & lying.
Looks like a cinnamon roll, could actually kill you — Kamiya "Tai" Taichi, coz he's an adorable goofball who (usually) doesn't hesitate to jump into danger to save his friends & has no problem killing anyone threatening them (especially if Kari is the friend whose life is under threat since she's his biological fullsister); Takenouchi Sora, coz when she was age 11-12 it was damned clear in canon that she could easily assassinate people if she wanted to & everyone are lucky that she's genuinely nice; Gomamon, coz he's an adorable goofball who nevertheless can (with his friends' help) kill a Champion Level Digimon as a Rookie; Patamon, coz he's 1 of the most adorable Rookie Level Digimon ever yet also a major powerhouse upon digivolving; Ichijouji Ken, coz he literally tried to murder a fellow human when he was the Digimon Kaiser/Digimon Emperor and even after becoming a good person he had no problem with sending a majorly evil Digimon (who was being basically a terrorist) into the Dark Ocean yet he's still a genuinely nice kid; Inoue Miyako, coz she's a nerdy & genuinely nice kid yet doesn't hesitate to smack an Ultimate Level Digimon with a skateboard and (despite initially hesitating) is willing to do whatever it takes to get rid of enemies who've proven they're willing to slaughter innocent people.
Looks like they could kill you, is a cinnamon roll — Gabumon, coz his teeth and horn make him seem the scariest of the 8 original Digimon partners yet he's also the gentlest of them all; Izumi "Izzy" Kōshirō, coz anyone aware of Izzy's badass computer skills would be scared of him (I certainly was as a kid & still am as an adult despite my immense respect for his skills in both childhood & adulthood), but Izzy actually is a good kid; Kido Joe, coz he's the oldest DigiDestined and literally throws himself on Digimon in attempts to protect his friends, so you'd think he's some badass combatant yet actually Joe is the team's medic & a very responsible person; Takaishi "Keru" Takeru, coz he doesn't hesitate to punch the face of anyone intentionally messing with Darkness & sometimes is abrasive when he talks to people (even when they're his loved ones), so (similarly to Joe) it's easy to assume he's a violent person 'til you get to see his soft side; Wormmon, coz he's an insect Digimon that looks far more scary than cute yet he's as gentle as Gabumon; Hawkmon, coz he looks like a typical bird of prey yet in personality is more of a polite & caring older brother instead of a carnivore; Armadimon/Armadillomon, coz he is an armadillo dinosaur who looks scary yet in personality is simply a goofball.
Looks like they could kill you, could actually kill you — Ishida "Mat" Yamato, coz this DigiDestined by far scares me the most (except Ken was scarier during his time as the Digimon Kaiser/Digimon Emperor) due to his explicit willingness to kill his enemies & ('til he grew as a person) attack his friends making his aloofness feel more threatening than make him seem unapproachable; Tentomon, coz he's a giant bug whose digivolved forms are even bigger & scarier bugs and he once destroyed an entire pocket dimension as AtlerKabuterimon/MegaKabuterimon; Palmon, coz she's a plant lizard with poison attacks; Tailmon/Gatomon, coz she's introduced punching the snot out of 6 fellow Champion Digimon much bigger than her & the 2 being each other's fated adventuring platonic partners is the only reason she didn't murder Kari; Lopmon & Terriermon, coz the twins' horns mitigate their adorable appearance into seeming less approachable plus Lopmon spends most of his screentime as Wendimon plus Terriermon gains gun arms whenever she digivolves into her Champion form; Veemon, coz. he's a junvenile wingless dragon who'll headbutt the snot out of you before digivolving into 1 of his bigger forms which have very sharp claws & teeth.

I’m sure plenty of people have thought about it but I haven’t seen anyone dissect it so let’s talk about
Soren and Claudia as a reflection of Zuko and Azula
Obviously there’s the whole “kids of the big bad, son gets redeemed, daughter falls further into evil” thing but you can go so much deeper with it.
The Azula/Claudia parallels are pretty overt: villain’s prodigy daughter bases her whole identity around being good at what her father wanted her to be and becomes so desperate for approval she becomes functionally irredeemable (withholding the acknowledgment that she is a victim of manipulation and emotional abuse).
But we get to see in tdp what we never got in atla: the fall.
Azula was conniving and ready to do anything for her father’s approval long before we met her, and similar is true for Claudia, but we get to see a window into who Claudia could have been. We see her have friends and passions and interests and doubts. We see her looking for the best in people and believing what she’s doing is right. We see Claudia wrestle with the morality of her actions. We see her crossing the line and knowing it. We see her losing herself in desperation to get back a life long gone. We see her acknowledge that she has done unforgivable things and hating herself for her willingness to do them.
Claudia is Azula’s arc in reverse. Instead of getting this terrifying, perfect warrior fall apart at the seams when losing control, we get a girl who knows there is a line treading closer and closer until she’s crossed it so many times she doesn’t bother going back any more. We watch Azula’s prefect image fracture and break, we see Claudia collecting her broken pieces, reconstructing herself into something unrecognizable. We watch Azula’s fall from grace, we see Claudia’s rise to power.
Soren and Zuko’s parallels are almost more interesting to me, because they’re a bit more subtle. They are not each other, you could not slot them into each other’s stories like you could with their sisters. They are distinct but that’s what makes them such interesting foils.
Zuko’s arc is of him breaking out of who he was “supposed” to be and finding who he wants to be. Soren’s isn’t. He’s an adult, he’s already decided magic wasn’t for him. He knew he didn’t want to follow in his father’s footsteps, but he still wanted to make him proud. Soren is a warrior but he doesn’t try to be anyone he’s not, he’s a fierce fighter but he’s also an absolute goofball. He’s not the smartest, but he enjoys exploring new ideas and he wants to make people happy, he knows who he is. Zuko, however, is heartbreakingly clueless to what kind of person he is outside of his father’s orders.
Soren has a more defined personality from the get-go, but Zuko has to figure himself out on how own starting halfway through the series. Zuko’s life had been governed by a desperation to earn his father’s love and years of rage, he never got the chance to explore himself beyond this until season three. Soren, on the other hand, knows himself, but has his identity challenged and chipped away at. He is a crown guard, a protector, but he finds himself causing more harm than good. He’s loyal, he wants to fight to make the world a better place, but when he becomes paralyzed he knows that this is better — that he doesn’t want to hurt anyone and that he doesn’t trust his orders to not lead him astray. He wants to do the right thing and make people happy, but standing up for what’s right breaks his sister’s heart and pushes her over the edge. He is determined to help make a better future, one of peace and forgiveness, but that means protecting the king, even against his own father. Soren believes goodwill and faith are the key to a better world, but he can no longer trust Claudia, his sister and closest friend. He believes in letting go of the hurt of the past, but he’s mourned his father twice and he’s still alive.
Soren is a good man who wants to do the right thing, but every step of the way is a personal challenge. While Zuko is struggling to find himself and who he wants to become, Soren is fighting not to lose the best parts of himself when his identity is constantly being challenged.
Zuko’s banishment is a key part of his story, he was thrown out, forcefully separated from his family and forced to find himself on his own while his father’s shadow loomed over him. Soren, however, had been his father’s right hand in a way. He was right there, watching his father and sister slip further and further into dark magic that gradually eclipsed who they once were. He was by Claudia’s side as she did increasingly horrible things to satisfy their father, he watched as she slowly became someone he didn’t recognize anymore. Soren himself was ordered to kill for his father and almost went through with it. Zuko was never asked to do anything like that, probably because Ozai didn’t think Zuko would be willing or able to go through with it, but Viren believed in Soren. He wanted his son by his side, and for most of his life that’s what Soren wanted, too. Viren’s a messed up dude but, in his own messed up ways, he did care for Soren.
That’s part of what makes these families such good foils: that there was love there. Viren loves his kids in a possessive and controlling way, but he does want them safe and close; Ozai only ever wanted his kids to be useful. Claudia loved her brother, and Soren continues to love her.
Zuko and Azula have resented each other for most of their lives. There is sadness there, a sense of loss of what they could’ve had, but they never got to have a proper relationship. We get to watch Claudia and Soren fall apart, while we only ever got to see Zuko and Azula hate and pity each other. That is what hurts.
Look at their goodbye in season three, look at their reunion in season four, look at how they care for each other and how terrified they are of what’s happening before them. Now imagine Zuko and Azula in their place.
That is how you do good foils.

002 Zack Fair!
zack!!!! zack fair. what a guy.
002 | Give me a character & I will tell you
How I feel about this character:
i absolutely love zack. he's an absolute ray of sunshine, and he makes me so happy to think about. he's in my top 5 ffvii characters for sure.
All the people I ship romantically with this character:
oooohhh....aerith first and foremost. zerith is 1000% my favourite zack ship, and one of the only ones i really have for him. other than that....i keep finding myself mostly interested in rarepairs for zack, i personally enjoy zack/tifa and zack/genesis.
My non-romantic OTP for this character:
definitely sephiroth!! i think they have such an interesting dynamic as it's depicted in crisis core, and exploring that is super fun to me. more than co-workers, but perhaps a little less than friends. there is trust and respect and camaraderie there, but sephiroth still keeps him at arms-length.
My unpopular opinion about this character:
unpopular....i don't even think this is necessarily an unpopular opinion, but fanon zack often gets boiled down an oblivious idiot goofball, when he's very much not. he's shrewd, and he has a high emotional intelligence (even if he can admittedly be a little bit dense sometimes) and he's not a perfect saint. he's just a Guy who has a really strong sense of morality, and a willingness to make personal sacrifice, but that certainly doesn't make him infallible. i think to ignore those aspects of him is a disservice.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
personally i would've loved them to double down on zack's era of disillusionment with the world and with shinra that he has after escaping hojo's lab with cloud. it's a very stark turning point for his character, and i wish it would get capitalized on more.
my OTP:
zack/aerith for sure!!!
my cross over ship:
zack fair x me from real life, he's boyfriend material
a headcanon fact:
it's my understanding that in older ffvii fanon, a lot of people used to think zack had violet or blue-violet eyes? and this is something i really love, even if in the remake trilogy his eyes really aren't that different of a colour from cloud's. he has violet eyes in my heart.

14/04/24 05:00 AM | Gossip Girl Update | MJ is The King of Goofiness
Tumblr media
Gossip Girl here, ur one and only source into the scandalous lives of Katie’s elite.
Spotted: MJ, the absolute king of goofiness and mischief, with a heart of gold buried beneath all that wild child behavior. This guy’s like a walking comedy show, always ready to drop a joke or pull a prank that’ll have u rolling on the floor laughing. But don’t be fooled by his playful exterior, there’s a surprising depth to MJ that’s as wise as it is unexpected. MJ’s the kind of guy who brings the party wherever he goes. Whether he’s cracking jokes or stirring up trouble, he’s always the center of attention, spreading joy and laughter wherever he roams. But what really makes him stand out is his willingness to dive into deep conversations and tackle serious topics with an open mind. He’s not afraid to get real and talk about the things that matter, which makes him a friend u can count on for both laughs and heart-to-heart chats. As a friend, he’s the real deal. He’s always there for his friends, checking in on everyone and making sure nobody feels left out. Sure, he might need a little guidance from time to time (okay, maybe a lot of guidance), but that’s where i come in. Like guiding a little brother, i’m always there to lend a helping hand and steer him in the right direction—whether he likes it or not lol. He may not always listen to me right away, but when reality comes knocking, he’s quick to come around and admit that i was right all along. WHAT A STUBBORN LITTLE SHT. And let’s not forget about our bond, back in 2021 when we battled our demons side by side and even when life pulled us apart for a while, our friendship remained as strong as ever, and i’m grateful to have him back in my life this year. Here’s to u, MJ — the ultimate goofball.
And who am i? I’m Blair Waldorf’s clone aka Katie Blair that u know.
XOXO, Gossip Girl. 💋

I've been divinely inspired to send asks to others, so here I am. You've sent me some asks about my thoughts on Invincible, so it's about high time I send you some myself. I want to hear all of it; your favorite characters, least favorite characters, thoughts, predictions, the works. Feel free to rant, as I am actively encouraging it. :))))
Tumblr media
I FOUND IT, HUZZAH!!
So! I'll do my best to write my rant as best as I can. Disclaimer for spoilers of the fourth episode of S2 if you haven't watched it, just in case, heh.
First of all, I learned about the series' existence by that meme at the top of this post a friend sent on a chat group we had; he drew fanart as well! After that, some users of another server wanted me to draw a character on that meme pose Omni-man was doing that showed his ass while kneeling —I believe it's still on my art sideblog—.
I wanted to watch it on my own, yet upon realizing I needed a Prime account, I decided to watch it with my parents. The first time I tried, it was night time, and they fell asleep before finishing episode one, which, in the context of the series, it was the best possible outcome for them. In my case, I watched all of it; it was just nice to have a more realistic approach of a young superhero and a family!
And that change of tone? Delightful! I gasped and enjoyed all the graphic details, as well as how much the GotG were hurt upon realizing Nolan was killing their colleagues, their friends.
Time passed, and I forgot about the series until I made my parents watch the Meet the Team videos, to then take advantage of their willingness so we could finish the series.
And oh boy, they did enhance the experience.
I still remember when Debbie said that Nolan was going to come home later for lunch, to then hear a small chuckle from my mother. A little bit of context should be provided, so I'll do that. My father works for the Navy here, and as consequence, he tends to go to other cities or board ships for days, weeks, even months, as well as working late; it has been normalized.
Watching a 17 year old guy wanting to be more than he was able to ever think possible as a 17 year old kid at the time was fascinating, if not sometimes painful. And now Mark is in college, heh. Yeap, the show hit home a few times, more than necessary.
What can I say about S1 overall? It was amazing! The sort of murder mystery tone it got was great to follow since we knew the who, not the why; and watching how Debbie was more and more sure about her theory was entertaining yet heart-stopping, as she was the only person capable of confronting Nolan and getting away with it. She worries me still, I want her to get her catharsis so she feels better; please writers, Debby deserves to be happy. She reminds me of my mother from time to time.
It's interesting how in the comics she is a housewife, yet in the series they decided to give her some agency and make her have a stable job, which may be the reason why they live in that house on the first place! She said “Get out of my house!” for a reason.
Mark, oh Mark. Watching him get physical and mentally damaged was such a journey that I enjoyed until I began caring for him just as with Debbie. He reminded me of another character that I deeply love, Kiana Kaslana, based on the fact that both characters were compared to someone related to them, as well as kept fighting for humanity although there were many reasons to stop doing so; also they are deeply traumatized.
And if the series' writers decide to follow the arc that Mark had in the comics, I may not survive. I'd implode from all the implications of it. TL;DR, let my guy be happy!
Nolan, ah Nolan. My partner thought he was going to be my favorite character, but Mark's existence takes the first place for sure. This man is so fascinating, being one of the strongest beings yet a complete insensitive dum dum goofball at the moment he has to express his honest feelings and thoughts thanks to all those years of Viltrumite indoctrination.
I hope he stops using Mark as a punching bag for his internal struggles. Looking at S1 episode 8 and S2 episode 4, he grabs his son as a ragdoll and yells at him as if that would convince Mark to be by his side? And the way he's feeling empathy now, hahah you fucker, have deep emotions now! It would have been preferable back on Earth, though. I wonder if the other Viltrumites will commit the execution or not.
I like most of the secondary characters, William is on thin ice, though, since he's uncaring of remembering Mark hurtful mistakes he's done, it doesn't seem William is joking sometimes, which confuses me since both characters are good friends and should know what may be a negative memory to the other.
My girl Amber is doing well! Good thing the writers realized that making her get mad at Mark based on his superhero life was not the best idea, resulting in Amber being more understanding on S2.
Eve is isolating herself, and her father kind of pisses me off because the story is quite vague in trying to prove if he's right or just trying to be more realistic, I'm referring to the incident he showed Eve that was wrote on the newspaper.
And the way they convey the concept of being more akin to someone you once saw divine, now showing its true colors, realizing you may go through the same path while everyone else acts if you already were that person, who brought nothing else but pain. It's wonderful.
It's an amazing show that has the privilege of being one of the few that made me care for the characters and their journey. Let's hope it ends with a bang when the time comes.

Post-Pre-Reboot: Sherman 'Tank' the Walrus
Tumblr media
This came about as the result of a little thought experiment I had. But first, some context.
Of all the Egg Bosses (and post-Reboot characters in general) Tundra the Walrus is easily one my least favorites. While cruel, monstrous villains are par the course for the Eggman Empire, Tundra somehow managed to be scummier than even the likes of Mordred Hood and Akhlut through a combination of being an abusive parent, an anti-intellectualist, and a backstabbing hypocrite (His "might-makes-right" mentality, willingness to jump ship to the stronger side the moment you show weakness, his cruelty and disdain for Rotor being a "toymaker" despite Eggman being the same thing, etc). TV Tropes even makes it a point to list his replacement of the nobler, braver Sherman Walrus, Rotor's father from the old continuity in his entry under his entry in Nightmare Fuel for the Archie Comics!
Then, I had this weird thought:
What if Tundra came in contact with the Genesis Energy that briefly restored the Freedom Fighters' memories in the first five issues of the reboot? Would he regain his old self's memories? Would the severe difference between the two incarnations of Rotor's dad cause a total personality rewrite instead of a seamless integration? What would Sherman be like if he existed in the Reboot instead?
After that, everything started clicking into place, and I came up with this idea for a Post-Reboot style Sherman:
Despite him being a total scumbag, Tundra has an admittedly cool design, so I knew right away that I wanted to keep that for Post-SGW Sherman. I especially like that RisziArts gave him a different mustache style than his canon self; it's a nice touch. The "Tank" nickname was just something I threw in for fun, and it fit for a powerhouse like Rote's dad.
Personality-wise, I ran into a problem: Sherman was a plot-device rather than character in the Archie comics. He existed to provide some motivation and sympathy for Rotor and only appeared in a single issue, and in a back issue, flashback side-story no less. So, I had to create his personality from scratch. With that in mind, I took a look at Tundra and all the ways he's Rotor's opposite, then tweaked them into traits that made sense for him.
Post-SGW Sherman is essentially a Mobian Ben Grimm meets Sgt. Hatred from the Venture Bros. (minus Sarge's "problem" that he needs to take medicine for - you know the one) with a bit of Homer Simpson and Dragon Ball Z Abridged Nappa thrown in for good measure. He's a boisterous, hot-blooded goofball and kind of a moron (he has average intelligence, but is lacking in common sense), but an all-around jovial and friendly guy you'd wanna have a drink with.
Sherman and Rotor are the quintessential "Jock Dad, Nerd Son" archetype. They don't see eye to eye on a lot of things and have little in the way of common interests. But when the chips are down, they ultimately care about eachother. That said, Sherman really likes to get into the part of playing the "evil, cackling supervillain" (his way of coping), much to his son's embarrassment.
As for how and why Sherman ends up with Eggman, my current head-canon is [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED].
And that's post-Reboot Sherman, hope you all enjoy the pic!
Sherman Walrus is the owned by Ken Penders (as per his lawsuit).
Tundra the Walrus is the owned by Ian Flynn, Archie Comics, and Sega.
Please support the official release and all official Sonic materials.
Original artwork by RisziArts.

Before I go to sleep, I wanna say that the thing that makes me relate to Crowley, and side with him more often than Aziraphale is how he communicates his adoration, frustration, and willingness to protect Aziraphale. Crowley, expects, or needs Aziraphale to understand that if he is offering a particular solution or insight about a situation, that Aziraphale will just blindly trust him. In some cases he does, or it atleast it takes some persuading or trading, but not all the time.
At times, I feel like when he’s talking to Aziraphale, or they are arguing (especially about their “duties” or relationship with heaven and hell) is the silent scream of “Choose me! Trust me!” Almost like an abandoned child pleading for mercy, or for their friend/partner’s love/repeat/affection.
And this could be an unintended side effect of falling from heaven, or just me misguidingly projecting, but it sucks all the same.
I also think it’s interesting how the fandom picks sides for the characters. To me, seeing these goofballs, who have spent an unprecedented amount of time together struggle with communication in dire situations is kinda crazy but predictable when you look at what their goals and communication styles are.

Shane and The Captain had been driving to upstate New York pretty regularly...they had a secure connection with one of the tribes over the border in Canada; 100 lbs of high quality weed, whenever they wanted, for an excellent price.
I had been wanting to go for a while, but work was always getting in the way. When they asked if I wanted to go, this time, I said fuck it; called out of work for the weekend and told Desha I would be back in time for work Wednesday...
I had already been up for a few days at this point...what harm could a couple more do...?
It was just the three of us. Shane was his usual upbeat goofball self; cracking jokes and cutting out lines. The Captain was sitting in the back of the big, black, Chevy Tahoe, reaching over the console to change the radio station every time whatever we were listening to would start to turn to static as we drove out of range...
I was driving, for some reason...
It was mid-day when Shane suggested we find a strip club; have a few drinks and something to eat. Do a couple lines with some naked women, and then get back on the road. Sounded like a good idea to me.
I was going on 5 days with no sleep; hadn’t shaved, or eaten, since I don’t remember when. Shane had been up a few days, as well. He was generally more clean cut than me, anyway, so he didn’t look quite as rough - which isn’t to say he didn’t look rough; I just looked worse...Cap looked just as sober and upright as he did two days ago; the last time I knew he slept...some people just manage better, I guess.
We saw a billboard for a club, found the exit, and off we went. We were somewhere in New Jersey, I think...
The club was dark, oddly quiet, and already smelled of cigarettes; it had only just opened, so we were the first customers of the afternoon. I saw a few girls sitting at the bar, first cigarette and first drink of the day already going. We grabbed a small table off towards the back, away from the stages. I went to the bathroom to do a line, while Shane went to get some ones. Cap grabbed a menu and ordered a round of drinks. When I got back to the table, I handed the baggie of meth to Shane, and away he went. There was a couple thousand in ones sitting on the table in stacks of $500...I ordered a club sandwich, and round of drinks; I looked around for an interested dancer.
Shane came back and passed the bag to The Captain, and away he went. Shane ordered a steak, and a round of drinks. Not a single girl, besides the waitress, had approached our table, yet. I found this very odd, considering the pile of money on the table and our obvious willingness to spend it...perhaps we looked a bit more sketchy than I thought...
The DJ had yet to call a girl to stage. Loud alternative rock was playing now, as the dancers and other employees aggressively ignored us. I was fast becoming paranoid and uncomfortable...
I went outside to call Desha. I don’t think I had spoken with her since we left.
The conversation was light; she was telling me to rest when I could, and to stay on my toes; this could be a good opportunity for me...there was money to be made, and I needed to take advantage. She told me to call her when we got to Maseena, and to enjoy myself.
“Make sure you get some sleep, soon”, she said...
I assured her I would, said goodbye, and went back inside. Shane and Cap were arguing about something...
“Chris, do you have the bag?”, Shane asked.
“How could I have it? I gave it to you...”
“Well, I don’t have it, and Cap says he doesn’t have it...where the fuck is it?”
“We are the only fuckin’ people in here”, said Cap, “It will be pretty easy for the cops to figure out who it belongs to, if anyone finds it, and calls the law...”
I pointed out that not one dancer had come over to talk to us, anyway; we had eaten, and had a drink, or three, and would save a shit-ton of money, if we left now...
Only users lose drugs, kids...
We were far enough north, by now, to stay off the highway and just take our time on the back roads. I know I was driving, but I’m absolutely certain I had no idea where I was driving to...Shane or Cap would tell me when to turn and I would turn. Shane found another baggie of dope...
I’m trying to remember the last time I slept.
We were deep in the woods of upstate New York, now. Two lane blacktop surrounded on both sides by thick, dark forest. It’s dusk, and everything is grey. We are all very high, and no one has said anything in a while. The radio is playing classic rock...
I can’t believe these guys are letting me drive. I feel sketchy as fuck.
There are only a few other cars on the road out here; and all of them are hitting their brakes at the same time...something going on up ahead. Really hope it’s not a roadblock. I have a license, I’m allowed to drive, but still...
Not a roadblock, but a motorcycle cop on the side of the road...looks like he’s moving something out of the way; I slow down to take a look as we go by...the cop turns to look at me and there is nothing but an empty eyed skull under the helmet. He’s dragging a body by the feet out of the middle of the road....
I blink and shake my head and the image fades. The cop throws the tree limb off to the side and gives me a wave...
“ I really think I need to take a break from the driving, guys; not feeling too sure of myself right now, ” I say.
“It’s only a couple hours more, dude,” says Shane, “ you can make it! “
“If you say so.”
“Turn left, here,” says Cap. I turn down a narrow dirt road surrounded by fields with barbed wire fences in need of repair. A few miles down we turn onto a dirt driveway. A non-descript farm house sits at the end of the drive; a German shepherd sits, unleashed, in the well kept yard. There are several cars, and a couple three wheelers parked out front. “ Looks like everyone’s already here,” says Shane.

Cultural Weapons: Fire Nation Swords Pt. 2
Zuko’s Broadswords
Tumblr media
The broadswords that Zuko uses are niuweidao (牛尾刀) or "oxtail sabers". Niuweidao are characterized by their flat and wide blades, flared tips, rounded cutting sections, and noticeably bent hilt; all characteristics present in Zuko’s swords.
The niuweidao actually has a rather unique history compared to other Chinese weapons. Whereas most Chinese weapons were adapted to be used by the imperial troops, the niuweidao was created and used exclusively by civilians. The primary reason for this was that their design was optimized to efficiently cut through flesh rather than harder surfaces; making them impractical for slashing through armored soldiers on the battlefield but perfect for petty robbery and common street violence. Unsurprisingly, these 19th-century swords came to be associated with rebels and criminals.
That Zuko chooses to wield niuweidao as the Blue Spirit is yet another example of his intelligence. After all, no one would expect the Prince of the Fire Nation, with a ship full of military-grade tools at his disposal, to utilize a weapon wielded by the lowest levels of society.
The niuweidao being the weapon of thugs also explains why that one Earth Kingdom jerk had a pair on him as well. In fact, you’ll notice that Zuko only ever uses his broadswords when he’s behaving criminally or rebelliously. Even his dual-wielding breaks from typical sword-fighting convention. The swords are the embodiment of his innate brashness.
This also provides a unique foil to Sokka and his sword. Sokka is often dismissed as a “peasant” and many characters simply write him off as dimwitted goofball. Yet his sword, the jian, is an ancient weapon dating back to 500 BC and is considered to be the weapon of scholars and gentlemen. Sokka’s sword embodies all of his most overlooked qualities: His intelligence, creativity, and honorable nature.
Zuko, by contrast, was seen as the elitist prince obsessed with honor and maintaining the Fire Nation’s imperial legacy. Yet his swords of choice, the niuweidao, are a relatively new kind of weapon from the fringes of society. Their entire purpose is to undermine the established power structure. Zuko’s swords embodies all of his most overlooked qualities: His boldness, his cunning, and his willingness to break from tradition.
Like what I’m doing? Tips always appreciated, never expected. ^_^

Hello 👉👈 for the mc and Ro thing: Rory (they/he) a fairly extroverted goofball that tries to keep a smile on his face at all time, extremely loyal to their little sibling and mom (has tattoos on his body that represents them 😭❤️), to the point of willingness to drop everything to rush to them if the need arises. They're a goofball but not a like the type that runs around with tons of energy, more like they watch bad drama shows unironically ,drinks beer and makes jokes whenever they can to ease tension. They love swimming so his favorite past time is going to a swimming pool or to a beach if there's one close by... Oh and getting tattoos, he would like to be covered in them one day 😎
RORY!!! my sweet baby angel -- your honour, i love them😭😭
might be the obvious choice here, but im gonna with grayson! gray is loyal to a fault and he's willing to do anything for or with the mc. while rory is more out going and goofy, gray is a bit more serious and he'll be able to ground them when things gets a bit too crazy. it's called balance😌😌
plus, we can't forget gray's obsession with tattoos... he's already a goner, but if when rory gets more, he might just combust. or propose on spot. or both, probably...

For curiosity’s sake, if Journeys had been more Galar based and keep the tradition of Ash only catching new Pokémon, what would you have wanted Ash’s team to look like? Regional forms included
Pikachu - duh
Corviknight - I love Journeys' approach to Ash's team of having him start off with more powerful mons to symbolize his strength as a trainer at this point, so I would have him start off with capturing a fully-evolved Corviknight. Not only would he be his aerial transport for the show, but it could also be a nice callback to Ash's old habit of capturing every region's regional bird as well. And you COULD do a Gigantamax thing with him, just as Ash did with Gengar despite already having Pikachu.
Sirfetch'd - Have him be caught a little bit earlier than he was at Journeys. Since Lucario wouldn't be a thing, he would have a closer relationship with Ash and a bigger vendetta with Bea, possibly having him try to defeat her Machamp without Gigantamaxing. David vs. Goliath, y'know? And hey, maybe he could be the ace this go around.
Coalossal - A bit reluctant to go with him cause that would give Ash three Gigantamaxable mons on his team, but eh whatever. He would be the same one Ash defended from the miners during the Darkest Day and Ash would catch him at the same location as he did in the show, albeit, without the Darkest Day story happening yet. Touched by Ash's willingness to defend him, he happily joins his team. And because he would be the slowest of Ash's mons in this team, there could be so many development things you could do with him. Torterra, but done right.
Dracovish - Nice to keep the little goofball on the team. Same circumstances as the anime as well, probably just a little bit earlier.
Hisuian Zoroark - Unlike the anime, I would actually properly promote Legends Arceus in the show by making a series of episodes that anyone can have access to and not get held up by a pay wall. But yeah, it would be a fitting choice for his team, as just like Lucario, Zoroark has always been a popular choice for his roster. And maybe he/her could be the ace, as well. Additionally, being a Normal/Ghost type, you could do so many interesting things with him.
