But between smuggling a toddler out of the League of Assassins, trekking halfway across the world, and finding a suitable hiding place that’s also child friendly… well, it kind of slipped his mind that he’s supposed to be… dead.

Something that comes back to bite him in the ass when he takes Dami out for some ice cream and just so happens to run into non other than Brucie-fucking-Wayne

#look I’ve found a new fave trope and it’s Brucie Wayne having to keep up his act while internally LOSING HIS SHIT #Jason isn’t very into the whole revenge thing here #his mind is 85 parts ‘keep Dami safe’ 5 parts ‘kill joker asap’ and 10 parts ‘avoid bats at any cost’#Jason doesn’t know who Damian’s father is #dealer’s choice if Jason establishes himself as Dami’s dad or older brother #his build certainly makes him look old enough #if you don’t look at his baby face lol #Jason runs into Brucie and goes straight into survival mode #Damian who is very observant for a toddler immediately clocks Brucie as THREAT based on Jason’s reaction #Brucie blue screens and desperately tries not to lose Jason in the crowd #jason is absolutely trying to lose Brucie in the crowd #while clutching Damian like his life depends on it #for all he knows it does #the visceral terror that your pseudo dad will take away your little brother/baby #Bruce who just wants to know if he’s hallucinating again: W A I T #jason who is terrified of being put in Arkham for killing people: no FUCKING WAY #hm maybe Jason plays the ‘I’m not Jason’ game again #it’s not gonna hold for long #but Bruce absolutely thinks that Damian is Jason’s bio child for a while and he’s on the WARPATH #Jason was sixteen when he died and never showed any interest in dating so literally every red flag is waving in brucie’s mind simultaneousl #or maybe Jason manages to get away and all Brucie is left with is the memory of his supposedly dead son #running away from him #and clutching a tiny kid #prompts #jason todd #batfamily #Damian wayne #batdad #brucie wayne

you know what i think. i think if Shinomori had done nothing. that none of the vestiges would have been taken.

like

the vestiges can only transfer if the living holder or they want to (see: movie 2).

But Shinomori thought that Shigaraki could steal them, so he did a "take me instead" thing. He put himself forward all like "you can have me but not the others" and since he did, that technically counts as permission, so he got stolen.

my man you should have just ducked with the others. this is what too much heroism does to someone. you own petard my guy.

if they had all ducked and dodged the hand would have just been grasping around missing them until Izuku broke contact

Sally isn't really evil per se... she's just sleepwalking! while having mild to intense nightmares! most of the time she just sleeps in her house, but once per day she takes a walk - a "patrol" - around the neighborhood before going back to sleep. every so often she wakes up Extra agitated, and needs to be soothed to sleep or she'll get destructive. in general, though, Nightlight!Sally just patrols and attacks anything that makes noise until it goes Quiet again

and Barnaby! well! he's having the most wonderful dreams <3

see, the thing is that (up until countdown at least) there’s no symmetry in jay and bruce's respective ways of grieving.

jay is perpetually trapped in the bargaining stage of grief, trying to reach out to bruce from beyond death.

bruce is way past this. he has settled into a quiet, passive type of mourning, devoid of hope for a reunion. and to stay in this state, he had to necessarily disregard jay’s true image – an image of an earnest, bright child, his son. the memory of jay has been reconstructed in his mind a thousand times and sealed in a folder labeled as “soldier” (or even just a personal failure). it's ugly. it's unfair. it's a coping mechanism.

so to me, the issue isn't that bruce wants his dead, sweet little boy back – the issue is that he barely remembers him. if he did, maybe he would be willing to take a leap of faith and search for that person in jason who came back. but he's not even trying to reconcile the image of 15yo jay with red hood – or rather, maybe the image of a volatile kid that he created in his grief fits with the red hood a bit too accurately. maybe it's a bit too convenient. it works perfectly well for his own self-preservation and sanity, to think that jason has been doomed from the beginning.

jason, on the other hand, is cursed with remembering. one of the very sparse concepts that i found interesting in rhato was when in #3 (2011) jason chose to give up on his happiest memory – skipping patrol to watch a movie with bruce. maybe it's because recalling these tender, sweet moments is what gives him hope, and motivates him to keep bargaining and trying to reconcile with bruce. and bargaining with reality is exhausting. the readers and jay know that it's a lost cause – both because neither bruce nor jay are the same people anymore, but also because, ironically, batman, the symbol of hope, doesn't have any left when it comes to getting his son back. bruce, in his grief, essentially closed the door. jay, in his grief, is banging on them.

#hm. you know i personally think that jay is shit at compartmentalisation. he's trying like his life depends on it!! and he's failing #bruce on the other hand is way too good at it.#to me the tragedy is. jason is still jason when he comes back. but the world is not the same and it's closing him off #who he becomes is a consequence of it..#god i'm afraid this post came off to much like bruce bashing but #closing the door on relationships is to be expected when someone is dead!#it makes sense.#disclaimer: you can just treat tarnishing jason's memory as bad writing btw and ignore it completely #i think it's fair game because it is also a result of dc writers hating jason.#personally – i think it's quite interesting to incorporate it into my reading #for the angst!#jay.zip #jay.txt #dc #phantom pains #cemeteries are for the living

i understand the reasoning behind the backlash against ppl that focus on the love in stranger things above all else, but like. the tides are turning in such a way that it's like some people expect there to be minimal/scarce levity or interpersonal growth next season, and.. to me.. that sounds about as unlikely as the idea that st5 will be a gay romcom.

stranger things has always made time for love (of all kinds) and lighter moments between the horror and action. sometimes the horror and action is the act of love, and sometimes the only way to save the day is by focusing on the love and letting it power the heroes and light their way forward.

this show goes dark for sure—i mean, we started this previous season with a literal brutal and gory massacre of many young children lol—but. it's still overall a mostly "light" show, because of how the darkness is mediated by the light. those moments are important because they further humanize the characters and incentivize the viewer to want to see them have their happy ending after everything.

there's always light, love, and laughter to be found in every season. interpersonal relationships have always progressed alongside the main plot, especially because we know that those two things are linked & community/love is the only way out, and that isn't going to suddenly change just because it's their last stand.

it's for sure not going to be heartstopper, but i feel it's likely not going to be the road or the mist either.

#i've been seeing this snowball for months now and i always jus go Hm .#bc for some characters... it kind of is like a romcom with a horror intermission sometimes lol. or a romantic horror. jus depends.#it will never be fully light but it'll also never be fully dark. st lives in the in-between.

The hero trapped them against a wall and kissed them, and kissed them more, and then some more until the villain was pushing against them dizzily and the lack of air crumpled their lungs up.

Then, the hero let go.

The villain slumped against the wall, staring, reeling, gasping in precious air.

"I don't care," said the hero. Just as breathless. "I don't care, I really don't. You think we're bad for each other? Then let's just exhaust each other until the novelty wears off. Until then," the hero kissed them again, harder, shorter, and the villain couldn't suppress their noises, "I'll just take what I can get."

The villain didn't have a response to that.

The hero kissed them again.

I'm so glad to find a fellow Jaime dead by the end of the series denier! And for the same reasons too. If Brienne didn't have that ugly & feeling unloved but still a hopeless romantic anyway backstory, I really would accept Jaime dying. It just doesn't feel right to have our bb girl's love finally reciprocated (when for most of her life she felt like it would never happen to her) to the same degree she deserves only to have him taken from her. 😔

literally... like have you considered i am a brienne girl first and ice and fire enjoyer second.............................? i WILL be in the trenches making sure my girl's story is satisfying and that also includes her romance because surprise...! romance and love is actually a big thing in her narrative as it's the driving force of most of her decisions and it's not just me being a delusional jb stan. but anyway as i've said, i think if jaime dies and it's written in a way that makes sense i CAN accept it (but that doesn't mean i'd like it!! but i can live with it....) but if it's something superficial like - the lannisters are the bad guys and you obviously can't have the bad guys survive by the end of the series + ignore the arc the character went through and just kill him off bc he's one of the baddies i'd be like no thank you <3

As much as I enjoy the Happily Ever After that Rue got to have I think it's worth exploring the alternative where she stays in reality and builds a life outside of the Story.

Also I think I just discovered another bitter angle to the bittersweetness of the ending- Rue never did manage to disentangle herself from the fairytale world she was taken away to. She got the best she could hope for- a happy ending to her fairytale- but she never did manage to return to the world she was stolen from.
