Definitely likely changing the way that this is set to have it be a character list like the other BFCD Masterlists, but for today, this all I got for the girlies. To be fair, it might need to be like the Monsters ones. Or, I might do a separate one that's characters later. Idk.

4 Reasons Why Disability Pride Month Should be in March
(And 3 Reasons Why Disability Pride Month Should Stay in July)
(with links)
Reasons for March:
The First: March 1 is the International Disability Day of Mourning (Website: Content warning for lists murder victims and information about their cases). This day is for commemorating and mourning Disabled people who've died at the hands of their family members and caregivers because of their disability.
(This, BTW, is why the main field of the Disability Pride Flag is Black)
The Second: March 12 is the anniversary of the mass protest led by ADAPT (website), which included "The Capital Crawl" (YouTube short; proper closed captions, eye contact), which finally spurred the Senate to pass the American With Disabilities Act, after it had been stalled and delayed for years.
The Third: March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day (Website) recognized by the U.N. -- for what that's worth -- since 2012.
The Fourth: Having our own Pride Month immediately before Autism $peaks's month-long propaganda campaign might just take some wind out of their sails (or should that be "money out of their sales"?).
Reasons for July:
The First: July 26, 1990 is the day when George H. W. Bush actually signed the Americans with Disabilities Act into law (Transcript of his remarks to the gathered audience at that ceremony). And it's important to remind people that the law actually exists.
The Second: Overall, there is a deep and strong current of ableism/disablism that runs through heteronormativity, such that any sexual/romantic, or queerplatonic, relationship between an abled person and disabled person is treated as "kinky," regardless of the sexual and romantic orientations of the people involved. So there's potential for a natural alliance between the Disability and Queer Communities, and it makes sense that our pride months are side by side. According to this 2019 PDF infographic from the Movement Advancement Project, 40% of trans adults, 40% of bisexual men, 36% of lesbians, and 36% of bisexual women report having a disability, compared to 27% of the "general population" having a disability. And those of us in the broad overlap of that Venn Diagram deserve two whole months of celebration.
The Third: It's already established as Disability Pride Month, and moving it now might result in loss of whatever recognition it's garnered so far.

Tisha b'Av, the Ninth of Av (July/August), is a major fast in the Jewish calendar. Traditionally, Jews fast for 25 hours in commemoration of the destruction of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. According to tradition, both the First and Second Temples were destroyed on this date in 587 BCE and 70 CE, respectively. In addition to abstaining from food and drink, the observance of Tisha b'Av includes not washing, bathing, anointing the skin, wearing leather, or engaging in marital intimacy. The Book of Lamentations and penitential, liturgical poems known as Kinnot (Elegies) are read in the synagogue. To heighten the sense of mourning, lights are dimmed and people sit on the floor or on low stools as they would while sitting Shiva. Work is avoided, and the wearing of Tallit (prayer shawls) and Tefillin (leather boxes containing scrolls with verses from the torah), usually done in the morning, is delayed until afternoon prayers.

To the Melanated Soul Circle
I know that I am pretty much the person who has this information in mind, but today is the day that I invited mutuals and followers into what I have called the "Melanated Soul Circle" of my fandom culture (when Tumblr tried chats for a bit). Then, they took those away and we moved to Discord, then. Then, I had a psychological crisis and transferred the Discord to my good Sis.
But, through it all, we still pass by each other from time to time, IF we don't actually have convos and chat. Because some of us do that too So. Today, I want to acknowledge and thank the people who this blog is for and the ones we've picked up along the way and I have collected in my spaces and my heart.

Sound off with how long you been with us, or what brought you into my collective, even if we haven't touched base in a while. That's one of the points of me doing this thing here.
