SUPER OLD RAINBOW! ART THREAD!!! Open only if you are brave enough to face teen me's cringe art...

(mostly joking but fr white Mimi and skinny Boo jumpscare below)

Very first digital piece of Boo and Mimi circa 2011!! I was 14 when I drew this. Usually I'm able to look back fondly at super old art of mine but this one does make me cringe a liiiiittle bit. Mimi girl what are you wearing, why are you white. Boo also had pink eyes in the beginning, which she would continue to have for several years to come (even in the current iteration of RAINBOW! they were pink at first, I later recolored those pages) but it was only later that it was due to the color scheme of the comic and not because they were literally pink. I'm pretty sure they were meant to be contacts, because their hair is and always have been dyed rather than anime-esque natural colorful hair, so that was some crazy dedication from Boo back in the day.

More 2011 art showing off Mimi's goth/scene-ish style and green eyes. They were initially meant to have pastel and neon fashion senses, respectively. The story was already named at this point, only a few days or maybe weeks into its inception, which is impressive considering it has taken us literal years to name other stories (I'm looking at you, Phantom Pains)

this one is from super early 2012! Interesting to think that this was less than 9 months later since it feels completely different to me. The first version of the comic had started at this point, and the pink and green color scheme was just starting to develop. This lineup features some characters that would later be cut. Lucian and Lily were friends of Boo, and Cecilia was Mimi's ex girlfriend. Notably Clarice is not on this lineup, and frankly I'm not sure why.

A picture I drew to commemorate 50 fans on RAINBOW!'s smackjeeves page, mid 2012. Boo's outfit resembled a recolored version of her 2011 outfit, but I have no idea what Mimi is wearing. What. are. you. wearing.

Chibi-ish drawings of Boo and Mimi cosplaying various characters, from early 2013. Homura Mimi is very funny to me, I really don't know why I didn't draw her as Kyoko. I assume I was trying to keep them as paired characters, but I didn't do that with the Sailor Moon or Disney ones, so I who knows why I did it with PMMM. Mimi's hairstyle changes to a shaved cut somewhere around this time, but it is much more dramatic than her current undercut, and her hair is still pretty long. Boo is wearing a closet cosplay of Fluttershy that I myself wore once. These also resemble the chibi-ish drawings on the chapter intermission pages of RAINBOW! Vol 1.

A character study I did in late 2013, which would be shortly after I made a major style shift into the art style that would eventually develop into the one I currently have. At this point, Boo was meant to be fatter than Mimi, but the execution wasn't really there at all. There is also a doodle at the bottom of me and Sunny at the time (I am the one with long hair), expressing thanks for 300 fans on smackjeeves. Considering it had 50 in mid 2012, the readership was pretty slow growing back then.

outfit exploration for Mimi, circa 2014. At this point I started to expand the color scheme a little bit more so that not every character would be paper-white, though she is still very pale even though she is no longer meant to be white anymore. None of these outfits really resemble her current style, and I don't particularly like any of them either. It took me a very long time to settle on a fashion sense for her.

an Adventure Time-eqsue drawing of Mimi and Boo that I actually drew less than two weeks after the previous image despite the difference in things such as the way the hair was drawn. I had to include this one because it blew up overnight, which was a huge deal for highschool me, I remember checking my phone at school a lot because it was just getting hundreds or even thousands of notes over the span of the day. I think it has something like 16,000 notes. Still the post with the highest number of notes I have by far, so I guess I peaked in high school, whomp whomp

More fashion exploration, this time of Mimi and Boo, from early 2015. The color scheme is starting to approach what it currently is, but much more dull since I used to be afraid of bright colors. Mimi's fashion sense is starting to get closer to what it currently is, but the pastel goth influence that was popular in early-mid 2010s tumblr is apparent. In chapter 1, Boo wears an outfit that is extremely similar to the one with the bear shirt, except it's a rabbit instead. The dress that Mimi gives to Boo is also almost identical to the depiction of it here. This drawing implies that Mimi was originally going to be present in the film noir scene where Boo finds her mom, which is interesting...

Another cast lineup! This one is from late 2015-early 2016. Mimi is wearing an outfit pretty similar to what she wears in chapter 1 but with the colors altered. The execution of Boo's body type is starting to improve but she's still kind of pear-shaped. Mimi is also a little more square, and her hair finally looks like the style she has now. Clarice gets to be in the lineup this time and she is SUPER tall. I think she is still taller than Milo. And Mimi is around 5'7"-5'8", so Clarice must be around 6 foot by that logic.

The original version of chibi-ish Boo riding a bike in her Kiki outfit, from 2016. I think it was meant to be a banner of some kind, possibly for tapas or tumblr. A newer version of this drawing features as a chapter intermission drawing in the physical book.

The original cover for RAINBOW! from 2017. The color scheme is finally starting to get a little brighter! This is actually a redraw of an older drawing from 2014, I want to draw it again someday. Also, I was going by Rain at the time.

A drawing I did in late 2017 for a class in which we were meant to try digital painting and I went for a very simple approach. I like that Mimi's legs are a little noodle-y. This is also the first drawing where Mimi's eyes are no longer green, but dark pink instead. By the language of RAINBOW!'s color scheme, that means they are brown. Boo's eyes are still pink, however.

Another drawing for a class, this time from 2018. I can't remember the specifics of the assignment, but I used the opportunity to draw the playground and Max, the dog, for the first time. I like the way the trees look in this. That little snip of hair by Mimi's ear also made a reappearance here for some reason.

The original version of the drawing that would become the cover of RAINBOW! Vol 1, from mid 2019! I believe I drew it to be a banner on Tapas, but I used it for tumblr as well.

And lastly, Boo and Mimi outfit sheets from 2019-2020. I messed with them for a while, hence the timeframe. Boo's eyes are finally green, which I changed since I liked the idea of Mimi having green hair and pink eyes, and Boo having pink hair and green eyes, as if they are reflected a bit in each other. Outside of RAINBOW!'s color scheme, Boo's eyes are actually blue though. It took about a decade, but I finally settled on a fashion sense for Mimi.

BONUS ART!!! 💖💖✨✨ I thought these would be better grouped together rather than chronologically with the rest.

RAINBOW!'s banners from its era on smackjeeves! Smackjeeves didn't have square/circular icons but rather these thin long banners which could also be animated. I thought that was so fun, so I always animated them at least a little, even though one doesn't seem to work. It was customary to write girls love/boys love on the banner of mlm/wlw romance stories then, so almost all of them say that. I still see that trend on some comics on webtoon and tapas nowadays. They are from 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2017. I don't believe the 2017 one was ever used.

And RAINBOW!'s icon throughout the years! I always refused to change it, only update it, because I thought it was really cute. They are from (approximately) 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2021.

And finally, art from 2021 of Mimi with her cousin August, who will be the protagonist of our next comic, Phantom Pains. Weird to think that we'll be on that comic in foreseeable future, since it is also over 10 years old now. You gave a biscuit to your daughter Sarah and another one to the puppy that was only a few weeks old that you had just adopted after the little one had been begging you for more than a month for a pet. You just couldn't say "no" to her; she actually looked a lot like Steve. Although that didn't bother you, you just kept pretending he didn't exist anymore.

You didn't notice that someone was watching them in the park; nothing seemed suspicious, not even when he started following you.

"Y/N, “Steve called out to you.

For a split second, you stopped but immediately kept walking, even though Steve caught up with them.

“Y/N, it's been a long time," Steve said.

“Who is he? “your daughter asked.

“An old work colleague," you replied. “I don't have anything to talk to you about," you mumbled quietly enough so your daughter wouldn't hear.

Steve turned to look at the girl, who looked a little dismayed, and then at the puppy. He stepped aside; it wasn't the time to talk.

You looked at the clock; it was eleven o'clock in the morning, and it wasn't time for Clarice to come home from school with your daughter. John and Clarice were busy taking all the children who were mutants back home after school.

You opened the door and closed it later, but Steve wouldn't allow it.

“Why didn't you tell me I have a daughter?“ Steve reproached you.

"You don't get to leave and then come back after all this time and expect me to welcome you with open arms."

“You just disappeared."

“I saw what you did with Sharon; I had planned that after you got Bucky to safety, I was going to tell you, you know, we don't need you; you'd better go," you said.

"Everything is all right?“ Lorna stepped in; you hadn't even realized when they'd arrived.

“I think you should leave, Rogers; you're not welcome here," Wanda said.

Steve looked down and turned to leave.

“I can still take Sarah for the ice cream I promised her, right?“ Wanda asked, not taking her eyes off the road.

“Sure, she hasn't stopped talking about it since you told her."

Has anyone noticed that author Thomas Harris doesn't actually describe Clarice Starling's appearance? What the reader imagines she is like comes from other characters' comments. Almost all of them rated her from beautiful to more beautiful :^) sounds like God's masterpiece which makes sense since Clarice Starling is called the angel of death in the book

Hannibal Lecter

Although Hannibal Lecter criticized Clarice for being a country girl, he also said that her beauty started very early and that's why guys came to her so quickly. That's true because later we also see how crazy Hannibal is about Clarice's beauty :)). Hannibal is probably the one who compliments Clarice's beauty the most and is so fascinated by her that he gets into Clarice's car just to inhale her scent and wants to taste it.

Jack Crawford and John Brigham

With Jack, I don't remember if he ever complimented Clarice on being beautiful, but their relationship was like that of teacher and student and like father and daughter. John clearly had feelings for Clarice but the confession failed. I don't remember if he complimented Clarice on her beauty or not, but she always considered John a trustworthy partner. Clarice sees both as her mentors and they treat each other with respect and loyalty

Barney and Margot

Barney is probably the one who agrees with Hannibal the most about Clarice's beauty and he also compliments her on how beautiful she is. Margot said that Clarice always looks serious and aloof because she is always flirted with by men. Even though it was just their first meeting, Margot also considered Clarice to be quite beautiful

Chilton and Paul Krendler

Both of these guys looked at Clarice as a target to be conquered, her beauty was what made the two guys act like animals, seeing her as an easy prey to attack. No one can like Chilton, the first time he met Clarice he did not hesitate to flirt with her. Paul is a more perverted guy who always tries to sleep with Clarice but when she doesn't agree, he sabotages Clarice's career for many years :). If I encountered these two guys in real life, I'd be surprised if I didn't immediately shoot them dead

charlastor/radiobelle has the benefit of relating to a lot of tropes and aesthetics in media that i already really enjoy and have a lot of content for. that being said, the songs ive chosen for them relate more to the pilot versions of these two characters, where it was speculated that alastor was going to be more of a mysterious, unflappable background mentor figure. ive heard their relationship being compared to that of clarice starling and hannibal lecter from silence of the lambs and hannibal, and i think some of that can vibe definitely be used here.

the first song that ever came to mind for these two (in recent memory) was a dangerous game from the jekyll and hyde musical (sung by anthony warlow and linda eder).

at the touch of your hand, and the sound of your voice, at the moment your eyes meet mine - i am out of my mind, i am out of control, full of feelings i cant define.

its a sin with no name, like a tiger to tame, (and though no-ones to blame) its a crime and a shame, and the angels proclaim its a dangerous game.

im a bit of a sucker for melodramatic gothic musicals, and the vision this song brings to mind is charlie wandering the empty halls of her dilapidated hotel and cautiously dancing with alastor and his army of half-sentient shadows. it relates to charlies pov more than alastors (as in this case he would be singing about her) and how they would have to tread carefully no matter what kind of close relationship they choose to partake in.

next up is me and mr wolf (the real tuesday weld).

you have the thing i love but the fear in me is way too much. if i open wide one of us may get lost inside. me or you, one of us is going to need to die.

my favourite version of this relationship is them being mutually fucked - alastor has never really given much thought to romantic love and hes shocked that hes willing to break so many of his own rules for this silly little slice of heaven in hell; charlie responds well to alastor setting clear boundaries against her sometimes-invasive behavior, and, like any good theatre kid, he "yes-and"s her (instead of vaggies pretty consistent "no"s). however, this song also touches on the fact that charlie is (or should be) at least alastors equal in power, if not far beyond him, and its a warning that neither of them should overstep in either love or anger.

the last one ill leave you with is actually one that was made canon by helluva - its look my way (paranoid DJ, but the alternate version sung by bryce pinkham) and its a bit of an ooc situation from alastors point of view.

unless its me, and no matter what in this world i could give - its not enough to get through the walls youve conjured up to live. is this what you feel? scorned by a world that cannot comprehend what you are, so ill grant you this mercy - this bind on our souls needs to end.

this is taking into account the deal that charlie makes with alastor in the penultimate episode of the first season of hazbin. the idea is that alastor (or at least, the speculative pilot version of alastor) strongly admires charlies perseverance against her own people - the very beings shes trying so hard to save. while charlie is a relatively open book he knows that she probably doesnt let anyone, not even her own girlfriend/best friend, see the emotional toll this project has taken on her (again, this tying in more to the pilot personalities of these characters), and hes upset that her deal with him has only made things worse in that regard. he makes the choice, to his own detriment, to sever the deal without her knowledge, so that if she doesnt keep her end of the bargain it will be of no consequence to her.

Some law of talos facts and info off the top of my head (by someone who's very hyper fixated and wants people to know more about it!!!!)

Apparently some people just didn't know that law of talos was an oc tournament 😭??? I thought that was basic info but I guess not! I'm not counting it being a tournament as a fact but more people not knowing (also some people didn't know unknown person had comics for before and after each animation??? There's literally YouTube videos with both idk what to tell you guys 💀)

Unknown persons entries are the most popular, but the 5th animation is non canon! The canon ending was by the winner Blacklillian but it's currently lost media :( there's a description of it on the lost media page, a few meantions of plot points on the tv tropes (example)

An ask + drawing related to what happened to Karl after on unknown person's tumblr (unknownpsn) we can also gather a tiny bit from the winner announcement post comments, the main point I've noticed is people talking about their disappointment in the lack of action and badly done Karl but praising the more satisfying ending. There was also apparently an epilogue by Blacklillian but that is also currently lost :(

Blacklillians entrees (along with the majority of others) are lost media! Some info can be gathered/interpreted from the lost media page and the tv tropes page (both linked at the bottom along with the intro/winner post for the contest and the wiki) A few entries are up although it's few and far between but I do encourage you to look for them on competitors' deviant art pages (I'll edit this and add list who's is up in a little while) here's a chart of the tournament though!

Here's chimbley's reference page which is the only known piece for his portion at the moment (please lmk if more has been found) *update you can buy the official chimbley archive on the artist Iris Jay's patreon for just 5 dollars :3 !!!!!

Chimbley's creator does have Twitter+tumblr but no longer makes content for him so savor what we have. We do know from the tv tropes page that chimbley was more flight than fight and all his competitors were disqualified rather than beaten in a combat (makes me giggle really hard ngl 😭)

Climber and Karl (and Rachel + Clarice obviously) are both part of the unreleased.... comic? Series? (Whatever it was going to be!) Called Castle of nations by unknown person (ofc)! There's not a ton known about it as the actual media was never released/finished and unknown person stopped posting in 2016 but there's lots asks + content on his tumblr if you want to look into it some

Karl was not going to wish for Rachel back despite common misconception! According to unknown person he was actually going to wish for an unlimited power supply to escape the amusement park permanently

There's a silly joke cosplay video called "law of talos chimbley vs Karl live action" that's available on the internet archive but someone uploaded the whole thing on tik tok (linked here) chimbley does a heel click at 8:22 i feel it's important everyone see it.

People have also been uploading the voice actors singing various Christmas songs in character I haven't seen them all but I know Karl's video (What's this- the nightmare before Christmas) is pretty available and a clip of Chimbley's (little drummer boy) as also recently been uploaded. I think I saw Steffi's at one point but I don't remember it like at all sorry (EDJT I FOUND IT GUYS I'LL LINK IT BECAUSE IT'S HARDER TO FIND THAN THE OTHER TWO I MENTIONED)

Okayyy get ready because the time has come and we are doing this (disclaimer: these are just my personal views and I'm not trying to convince anybody to agree with me, this is just me listing which characters I think are aroacespec and why)

Amnesia aroacespec headcanons in order of least to most controversial

#4 - Henri Clement

Henri being aromantic just makes sense to me. Romance doesn't ever come up in his story, it's all about him and his best friend! An incident with a barmaid is mentioned, though unspecified, so I just don't really know what that's about??? But also the Bunker was released just around the same time as the first-ever international aromantic day of visibility, sooo... Also I don't know if he's also ace, but personally I think he probably is, he's at least the one on this list who in my opinion is the closest to being fully aroace (like me :D)

#3 - Justine Florbelle

Now I know we've already jumped to a ridiculously controversial character here, so you know the last two are really gonna be a doozy haha, but ANYway, Justine obviously loves having people be attracted to her, but she herself never experiences any attraction to any of her Suitors. She just loves to feel loved and feel "beautiful," but she doesn't love any of them in return. I don't know about her being ace honestly, I considered sex positive ace for her but maybe she does feel the sexual attraction but not the romantic? Definitely romance favorable aro, but I'm interested in other people's opinions on the sexual attraction part of it. But last but not least, let's address the elephant in the room- Clarice. I personally believe that Justine and Clarice are in an alterous relationship. It's not necessarily romantic but it's not necessarily platonic, it just is what it is between them and what's important to them is that they love each other, not exactly what kind of love that is. That's my take

#2 - Alexander von Brennenburg

Ohhh yeah here's where I'm really gonna lose people, but I'm gonna be totally honest... I don't understand why everyone in the fandom sees Alexander as a slut??? I don't see that in him in the game at all, he's CLEARLY wholly devoted to his love (who I personally believe to be Temaku based on a note in Rebirth). Everything Alexander does, spending hundreds of years just to open this portal, is all just to be with his love again. So why would he be sleeping around and falling in love with Agrippa, Weyer, Daniel, or ANYone? I don't get the fandom interpretation of Alexander being a whore or polyamorous, I think in the game he's monogamous to a disturbing and unhealthy degree and it's part of what makes his character... who he is. So in my eyes, Alexander is demigay (I do understand the take that Alexander seduced Daniel to manipulate him without actually being in love with Daniel, but not Alexander falling in love with him for real)

Last but not least...

#1 - Daniel

Cue the screaming

Look. LOOK. Okay. Every single protagonist, even the two others I've mentioned here, have mention of sex and/or romance in their personal stories. Justine, obviously, Oswald, ALL THE TIME, Tasi, had a husband and children, Henri, incident with the barmaid, but Daniel.... nothing. Zip. Zilch. Zero. Nada. It never comes up, and to me that's because he's not ever.. thinking about it. It's not something that's on his mind because it's not something that he feels or desires. He just really likes archeology and history and his sister and that's all :)

That being said...

I do think Daniel is not 100% aroace. I see him more in the gray or demi area, but it's very very very rare for him. Case in point, I do think he had a bit of a crush on Alexander, but I think that was his first crush so he didn't recognize what those feelings were or why he was feeling them. I think Alexander could tell that Daniel had a crush on him though, and thought it was cute and funny but also used it to his advantage (though not by outright seducing him since Daniel didn't know he had a crush). So Daniel in my head is also demigay, or graygay, but most of the time is pretty much aroace

Plus honorable mention - Tihana!! I think it fits with what little we hear about her backstory

Those are my thoughts and feelings I've been sitting on for a year because I'm tired of people bashing aroace headcanons, but that's been happening less and less the last couple years and I've been going through a lot so I think I deserve to indulge myself a little

Also just a reminder that I'm not claiming these to be canon or trying to convince anybody to see things my way! This is just what I think and why :))

What do you think would happen at the end of season 2 if Hannibal decided not to kill Abigail and instead took her to Europe with him instead of Bedelia? I personally think that Abigail would have runaway the first chance she got, she was very manipulative and was clearly using Will and Hannibal as a means of self preservation. Do you think Hannibal would have eaten her like he planned to with Bedelia? Or would he want to reunite them as a murder family once more? If so would Abigail stay with them? Or I have another theory, what if Hannibal planned to brainwash Abigail and alter her personality to turn her into Mischa like book Hannibal tried to with Clarice? How would Will react to that? Love to know your thoughts. Wishing you all the best and don't stop writing.

Hi! Thank you so much <3 I know this is an older ask, but answering it now: unfortunately, Russia resumed its missile attacks. My city was attacked twice in the last three days, in the middle of the night, with explosions sounding before the air raid alarm. All that my cats and my Mom and me could do is run into the hallway, terrified. It's difficult to live with the knowledge that your life can end any single moment - and end in a painful and scary way.

On to better things, though: regarding the first theory, I think it could go in a number of ways. Abigail is an interesting character in the way that we barely know enough about her as a person. Her existence has always been about survival: we have no idea if she actually has darkness in her, if she's willing to act on it, what she wants for herself and how she really feels about her life up to this point. Hannibal held fondness for Abigail; he spent time with her and on planning to have her in his life, but like Will, he was more enamoured with the idea of her, not with her as a person. Abigail reminded him of his sister and she was the way to get Will to consider having a family with him - these were her two primary features.

It's difficult to say if Murder Family would have been feasible without knowing the answers to these questions about Abigail. She didn't seem to like Will all that much, and for a good reason, but she understood that being liked by him is her best chance at survival. She was doing what Hannibal wanted because she realized how dangerous he is and he was the only person she had who accepted the truth about her and welcomed it. With him, she didn't have to constantly worry about being exposed as her father's helper, but at the same time, she knew that Hannibal could change his mind about her and murder her whenever he felt like it.

With all this stress, I'm not sure what Abigail would have done if she lived beyond S2. Running away is an option, but how and where to? She'd have no money, no real documents, and she'd be officially a fugitive who'd be arrested if the police caught her. Living on the streets with no money and no opportunities might be even worse than staying with Hannibal, who was easily toying with her life. At least with him, she had some of her basic needs met.

Maybe one day, if she felt calmer and she had a chance to gain her own self, she'd feel happy with the idea of being a part of Murder Family. Or maybe she'd bide her time, saving money, learning things, and then running away.

I think whether Hannibal decided to eat Abigail or not would depend on whether Will was with him. Will would never allow it, and Hannibal wouldn't risk alienating him. But if Abigail proved to be disappointing like Bedelia, and Will was still separated from him, then yes, I think it's an option.

As for the second theory, I don't think Hannibal would ever want to brainwash someone close to him by changing their personality. His MO with his patients and others is to push people into becoming their true self. He respected their ultimate boundaries - never pushing Margot to kill someone beyond her attacker, sending killers to Will, sending a weakened patient to Bedelia. I think he'd try to help Abigail find her real dark self, but if this proved to be disappointing, and if she couldn't be used to bring Will to him, then Hannibal would probably simply kill her instead of trying to turn her into someone else.

Favorite Character Overall: Josh (Possibly just me being biased. 😂 But I do love his character and story a lot though — especially his humor. And I'm a sucker for a tragic story as well. 😂)

Least Favorite Character Overall: Charlie (Just an overall dick, in my opinion. And he annoyed the absolute hell out of me.)

Mike and Sam (They had great chemistry and I really enjoyed seeing them together in the last chapter.)

Matt and Jess (There is something about these two together that just... Works for me, y'know?)

Rachel and Clarice (Clarice just seemed to bring out the good in Rachel. That scene with just the two was the only time I actually liked Rachel in the game.)

Erin and Jamie (There was something about those two that was just so cute. And the part where they kiss for the first time melted my damn heart! The whole soft cinnamon roll/tough bitch dynamic gets me a lot too. 😂)

Chris and Josh (Chris was head over heels for Ashley and Josh was CLEARLY very into girls so I don't really get it that much.)

Jason and Salim (Another one I don't get that much. I used to ship them a long time ago because it was so popular, but then I realized that it just didn't make much sense to me so I stopped. I mean, one of the chapters about them is literally called "Brothers" so that just makes me think that that's the relationship the devs were aiming for with those two.)

(I've only played Until Dawn, House Of Ashes, The Quarry and The Devil In Me. So that's why the list is without other ships from other games. But I'm not adding any of The Quarry ships to this list because it seemed like nothing came out of the relationship decisions and I didn't enjoy the characters as much so I tend to ignore ships from that game.Also, no hate towards the people who ship the ones I listed as least favorite. Dr. Hill Or The Curator Or Eliza: Hmmmmmm... Probably Dr. Hill. (He was more creatively written than the others, in my opinion.)

Wolfie Or Connie: Fuck, I should have thought this through before writing it down. 🤣 Although I LOVE Connie with all my heart, Wolfie did get more screentime which led me to have a bit more of an attachment to him. So I'll have to go with Wolfie.

Ok, yes now back the question, ahem! So, I don’t have a whole lot of OCs outside of my super secret original works, because I’m pretty sure I poured all my energy into developing weird, nameless NPCS in Soulsborne games in particular xD

I dunno, it’s addicting! But anyway, I do have some in “Christened in Blood” that will become/already are relevant, and even though they are mostly lore tie-ins, I did confirm with Katy and Fantomette that they “counted” as OCs 😅

I’ll be sharing about them in that case, and fair warning, some of these peeps are genuinely awful, so Emori and Hollise and the girls should absolutely feel free to kick their asses 🖤 (Fantomette, your OCs as well, hehe).

Lord Dominic, father of Lady Maria

Alright, Cainhurst OCs it is! Here’s Dominic!

You know him already of course, since he insisted on being terrible right from the start of my fic, but believe it or not, he leaves more of an impact on the story than some of the others, so I can’t leave him out!

Basically he was the captain of the royal guard during the reign of Annalise’s mother, and before that he had been an executioner for the royal family. He and the queen were a pair of scheming devils that wanted to remake Cainhurst in a new image, which was essentially the Vileblood revolution. They rebelled against the old ways of the kingdom which basically glorified the Pthumerian rituals and traditions that were thought to bring about godhood.

Dominic and the Queen were like; Let’s cut out the middle man and just straight up use the blood to become more Pthumerian-like right away. That’s what they did, and when the queen took her throne, she kept Dominic by her side for defense.

In all truth, yes. He was an absolute bastard. He married a lesser noble from the Cainhurst-Hemwick bloodline, and fathered Maria and Bloody Crow/Luther. He was cruel and abusive towards his wife and children, usually by way of controlling everything they did. He wanted his wife to avoid “weakening” his children, and wanted Maria, his eldest, to be his trophy child successor. They were like tools to him in a grander political game, and needless to say, they all hated and feared him.

Hell, most people in the kingdom hated and feared him because he still acted as the queen’s executioner that would snuff out entire families if they rebelled or even spoke of treason. He was a terrifying, ruthless warrior and he truly believed everything he was doing was right. The only one that adored him was the queen, and he happily served her out of twisted admiration and loyalty. They were just heartless and Machiavellian enough for each other.

But to the majority, Dominic was fiery, proud, cold, zealous, bad-tempered, and stubborn. He was eloquent and manipulative as well, often intimidating to others due to his unpredictable nature.

Now, I won’t spoil much, but while Maria spent much of her life trying to erase Dominic’s memory and influence, Crow/Luther actually discovered another side to the man that changed how he saw him. Yes, he was still always an asshole, but weirdly enough, he had a very specific purpose for it. I actually enjoyed adding another layer to this character past just the abusive father figure.

Lady Clarice, mother of Lady Maria

Oh wow! It’s Maria’s mom! Hope nothing bad happens to h—*COUGH*

Lady Clarice was a noble scion of a smaller family of Cainhurst aristocrats, and was pressured to marry Dominic, a high-born directly related to the queen, by her family in order to elevate their house. While she had grown up in Hemwick during its better days, she would eventually up and leave to live in the snowy, mountain-top castle across the great lake. This new life made her miserable, and her marriage with Dominic was loveless. She never actually understood why he had decided to wed her, especially when it seemed clear that his affections were turned towards the queen.

She did, however, love her children. Particularly Luther. Sadly, while she did cherish Maria, she often looked to her daughter as more of a “savior” instead of a child in need of love and care. Clarice tended to put more pressure on Maria to watch over her brother and defend them both against Dominic, because…well…Maria was strong. Maria was bolder and more confidant than her paranoid mother, and though there was love between them, there was possibly also resentment.

Clarice was, after all, just another lost child that was sold away by her family and forced into a life she did not want. She missed Hemwick, and the farms, the mills, the people. She missed her simple life and the friends she had made there…and after sinking into heavy depression, she made some critical mistakes that led to her downfall. The mark she left on Maria was life-altering, but unfortunately for Luther, his memories of her were only so extensive.

In her life she was known to be a docile, quiet woman with a love of flowers, astronomy, and old folktales/stories. She was also an artist and carried books full of colorful, floral scribbles wherever she went. Despite her cold life, there were many who loved her. Also one random fact, she was known for wearing the scents of lavender and rosemary on her clothes, which were both considered to be crude plants in Cainhurst, as they were usually associated with wandering plague doctors. However, Clarice had been surrounded by the scents in Hemwick and harbored them out of bittersweet nostalgia.

She’d enjoy the chill vibe of a good ol’ tea session I think!

Queen Claudia, mother of Annalise

Look, I’m not saying Annalise was some wonderful and pure person or anything, but compared to her mother, she was a saint. Claudia may be one of the most devious characters I have ever come up with for a fic, and when you combine her and Dominic, you have a very bad combo.

Claudia was the younger daughter of Queen Zofia (the name I gave to Annalise’s grandmother), and sister to Lady Evelyn, who I’ll talk about later. There was something very devilish about Claudia from the start, because she was basically one of the first people to get her hands on forbidden blood before the whole thing with the scholar even happened. She straight up consumed that blood smoothie, and then gave birth to her first child, Annalise. Fun fact! Annalise was born immortal, and Claudia discovered this when she saw Anna immediately regenerate from a wound when she was a young child.

After that, Claudia basically usurped her elder sister’s throne by claiming that she had more of a right to it because she was the one with the immortal heir. Evelyn’s children were not “special” by any means. And after spreading her “we’re going to produce an immortal line of rulers and give this divine life to our people” propaganda, Claudia won the favor of the kingdom’s citizens and nearly incited a rebellion when the former queen resisted the claim.

In the end, through extreme manipulation and theatrics, Claudia won and inherited the throne. She took a consort, raised her daughter to be the public golden child, and encouraged a more Bacchanalian culture in Cainhurst. She wanted her people to revel, feast, lust, and drink, and to become drunk on blood. It’s how she controlled them. Yes, this also is what gave Cainhurst a bad reputation and image for the rest of the world. They became known as drunken, careless nobles that craved bloodSport. Claudia relished in this.

She was a callous, dangerous, cutthroat, and manipulative queen. She wore many faces depending on her audience, and was a narcissistic, arrogant, and cruel person overall. She used people like pawns, including her own children, and did whatever it took to keep her line on the throne. That included side-lining her own sister, encouraging abuse towards her sister’s children, and keeping Dominic by her side, who she trusted completely and could unleash on anyone that opposed her. I don’t even want to get into what she did to Annalise because the fic will cover that and it might be a little too much for a simple OC post lmao. (Fantomette can confirm).

There had never really been a queen like her before, since most were benevolent and decent, but Claudia was just genuinely evil-hearted.

So, fair warning, you do NOT want this lady at a tea party lol. She’s probably the only Cainhurst noble besides Dominic that actually earned the “Vileblood” name xD

Lady Evelyn, aunt of Queen Annalise, mentor to Lady Maria

If Claudia was the “bad” sister, then Evelyn was the “good” sister. Even though she looks scarier, hehe. Yes, I did come up with this character because of the gun, but it just made sense to me that they would name the weapon after the commander of the beast-hunting knight’s calvary. In my eyes, the previous armies were not as well equipped for beast hunting because the plague hadn’t been very prevalent then. When it got worse, and after Evelyn had been cast aside in favor of her sister’s rule, she founded a new league of knights.

Evelyn was calm, rational, and intelligent. She carefully analyzed Gehrman from afar and the way in which he modified weapons before proceeding to imitate him and garner extra knowledge from Eastern weapon-smiths. She modified and commissioned the Evelyn pistol, the Chikage, the Reiterpallasch, and even the Rakuyo upon Maria’s request. Sometimes she made the weapons herself, sometimes she simply told the weapon-smiths how to design them, but every time she would end up with something brilliant.

Her knights loved her, and she was their strict, formal commander and trainer. She also taught Lady Maria how to fight, and how to adapt to using standard weapons instead of blood-blades. Maria’s dualistic skills began with Evelyn and continued with Gehrman, both of whom she admired.

Evelyn found that her focus on beast-hunting and leading her knights was the best way to avoid Claudia and the strife within their shared home. She did her best to not provoke her sister and remained silent even after the usurpation, but inevitably there was a deep resentment brewing. In secret, Evelyn prepared her son (Leo) to one day reclaim the throne. This quiet treason was the foundation for much of the tension between the descendants of both sisters.

Regardless, Evelyn’s plans were understandable, and while she may have been quite bitter and aloof, she at least loved her children, her knights, and her remaining family, often holding back her own desires for their sakes. It was her graceful daughter that led the knights during the time of Logarius’s attack, and Leo, who was very similar to his mother if only a bit more volatile, loyally fought in his mother’s name for many years of his life.

Evelyn would be very stern and formal at a tea party, so maybe not the most exciting person to invite, but she would be able to tell some great stories, and at least she’d hold back from fighting anyone lol.

Lord Theodore, brother of Queen Annalise

(It’s funny using this portrait because Fantomette has a whole different OC based off of it who is so sweet, but now I gotta share my totally different one kjsjs).

I don’t have a whole lot to say about this pompous loser, but basically, he was Annalise younger brother and was usually pretty satisfied to just do whatever his sister asked if he was able to live a luxurious, unbothered life in return.

As a child, he was a spoiled brat and endlessly bullied his cousins (Evelyn’s children) because uhh…he thought it was funny? I guess? Basically he took after his mother, but without the cunning and frightening intelligence. He was a somewhat decent captain of the guard after Dominic, but his battle skills were really not too impressive or anything. He usually just sent out his underlings to do most of the dirty work when he could.

Needless to say, he wasn’t exactly popular among his own soldiers for that, but he was quite popular with the kingdom’s people. He looked like some dreamy, romantic hero, and so they all put him on a pedestal for it. He loved the attention and praise from them, because…well, it was what fueled him to keep doing his job. He was a spoiled, smug individual, and just wanted to eat, drink, be merry, and enjoy long life, which he received from his sister’s blood.

He did have some mild resentment towards Annalise because as adults, she treated him as somewhat of a pawn or a public trophy to win her people’s affections, but her compensation for his work was usually so lavish that he just ignored his issues with Annalise. He didn’t consider them worth losing his luxuries.

He’d be an overly-proud and selfish person to have at a tea party, but hey, he’d be kinda fun to bully because there’s no way this guy can take what he dishes out sjhskkskj. He’s rude as hell to people he doesn’t like, but you could probably get him to cry if you insulted his hair xD

Ok, finally I’m away from Cainhurst, thank Kos. I do have more background characters developed, but they aren’t active enough in the story to mention, and again, they’re usually just family/lore tie-ins.

Anyway, let’s look at a couple more characters that actually influence the story in CIB.

Felix, The Hinterlands Scarecrow and predecessor to Eileen

Imagine Eileen but with a scarecrow cap, a creepy scarecrow mask, a blue-beaded bell charm, and slightly blue-splattered feathers with blue/gold thread subtly woven in. That was Felix, the Blue Crow, the Scarecrow, whatever you wanna call him. He came from the “Hinterlands” aka “totally-not-Tibet” where the first hunter-hunters came from.

In my canon, Eileen was born in “totally-not-Nepal” which is geographically, (and accurately so irl), right next to “totally-not-Tibet.” So, she and Felix crossed paths as youths and knew each other for years. Felix was the nephew to the first hunter of hunters, and had hoped to succeed her as the next to carry the mantle. However, his aunt skipped over him and chose another lad to carry the crow mantle for a few years. Yes, Felix was young at the time and therefore a bit immature. He was jealous of the successor, Brandon, for years, but wouldn’t ya know it, they finally met and Felix realized the bastard was actually pretty cool.

Fast forward a few years, Felix is Brandon’s soon-to-be successor, and the two are like…best friends. They were like Anakin and Obi-Wan in The Clone Wars fr. Absolute bros.

They even went to fight on the frontlines of a distant war together, and spent a lot of time hunting down crazed members of the League who were losing their minds. Obviously Brandon was the mercy-killer, but Felix learned how to become a dangerous warrior along the way.

Then BAM! Brandon goes whack in the head after some rough turns in the road and Felix has to be his mercy-killer in order to finally embrace his crow-mantle. What was once a young boy’s dream of glorious achievement was now a bitter and grim affair. Felix very reluctantly took down Brandon and became pretty withdrawn, cynical, and stoic afterwards. That’s when he found Eileen again and started training her.

Felix was a crow for a long time, and his reputation for having killed one of his own “kin” earned him the moniker of “The scarecrow among his own.” After all, what is a scarecrow if not the terror of even the ominous crows? Felix would kill one of his own if necessary. While he was highly emotive, wild, and strong-willed as a youth, older Felix was closed-off, disciplinarian, traditional, cold, and pessimistic. Only Eileen knew him for who he really was, and the two had an unspoken bond like a brother-sister pair. Felix discouraged any emotional ties, but yes, he did care for Eileen, and vice-versa.

Really, the only strife that arose between them was when Eileen’s apprentice became the Bloody Crow, because uhhh, you can imagine Felix’s PTSD with crow-hunters teetering on the edge of madness and all that. Heh.

Overall, Felix would be fine at a tea party, but he might be too strict or sharp-tongued, thereby killing the mood a bit. How dare anyone have fun and be relaxed in his presence 😒 (He’s actually a good guy tho, plz don’t judge him too hard </3)

Hugo, Logarius’s second-in-command.

I don’t know what it is with me and making awful characters, but I guess I need them for the plot lmao. Hugo is genuinely despicable, and honestly on the same level as Claudia/Dominic. At first, you might just think he’s a bully, but his undying loyalty to Logarius of all people suggests that he’s worse.

Hugo was originally the son of one of Gehrman’s hunting captains, and grew up in the hunter’s culture around Byrgenwerth. He was ambitious and aggressive as a hunter, usually overly-mutilating beasts, getting into fights with his peers, and causing trouble. Most suspected that he just had a violent home life, but nobody could really confirm what the problem was.

Nevertheless, Hugo hated humanity and found “the hunt” to be a way to unleash all his vicious loathing. He very loudly preached against the idea that beasts were human, and he didn’t believe that Pthumerians, Vilebloods, or any other humanoid type beings were human either. This is essentially what Logarius taught, and even though they all knew it was BS, they had to justify their actions somehow.

Hugo tortured and butchered countless people over the years when he followed Logarius into the Church and became an Executioner (Logarius’s right-hand man). Anyone with even the slightest signs of bestial infection were targets for Hugo, and there were rumors that he had cannibalistic tendencies when dispatching his victims because he “didn’t see their flesh as human flesh.” (Another lie to satisfy his lust for destruction of his fellow man of course). The other Executioners always helped cover up his crimes because they were scared of him too. Everyone knew that he was a perverse and disgusting individual.

So, yeah…do NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT INVITE THIS SADISTIC BASTARD TO YOUR TEA PARTY PLEASE OMG. If you don’t hate him now, you will when I post the next few chapters because uhhh…uhh…uhhh….ANYWAY!

Johann and Pavel, the Yharnam Clockmaker

Alright, this one is a bit complicated because I know it’s two names here, but it’s only one character, and not in a Dr. Jekyll type of way. Basically this old guy, Johann, was a clockmaker in Yharnam and was one of the people to help design the Astral Clocktower itself.

Johann lived alone in his old age, but had what was likely schizophrenia and constantly hallucinated the presence of his long lost son, Pavel. Pavel had died as a child, but to Johann, he was his small, tag-a-long apprentice in the old clock-shop. During the years when Bloody Crow/Luther was in Yharnam, he befriended the grizzled clockmaker and formed somewhat of an odd friendship with him.

Luther was always coming in to commission him for pocket watches or water clocks….because Luther had a specific interest in collecting and learning how to craft the ornaments. He employed their designs in things like little smoke and powder bombs as well, and Johann was the go-to “parts guy.”

So, Johann spent many hours chatting away with Luther as they worked on these little trinkets, and the latter got used to seeing the aged man call out and speak to his deceased son like it was nothing. Just another sad story of Yharnam madness, eh?

You could invite this fellow to a tea party for sure. He’s nice, and just a bit eccentric is all. Yes, he talks to someone you can’t see, but there’s nothing wrong with that! Bloke deserves some free cake tbh.

Ok! I’m pretty sure those are the main OCs for CIB, and even though I developed the hell out of Vileblood Drifter Leo (He’s Evelyn’s son in this story), those two Research Hall doctor-hunters (Gladys and Ursula), and the previous crow-hunters, those are all either non-original characters already or characters that are only mentioned by name in the fic. I do plan to make a big post for my headcanons on the previous crow-hunters sometime, but they’re mostly for background lore purposes. I’m not sure if I’ll ever actually write all their stories.

In the mean time, this is gonna be one hell of a tea party…are you ready Bim?? XD

At the turn of the decade of 1970, Hannibal Lecter learns, to his dismay, that his age has finally caught up to him; his bones have grown weaker, his body has grown frail — the only thing remaining intact, so far, being his mind. Yet, slowly, he feels as though he is losing that, too, as if it’s slipping through his fingers, brain aching agonizingly with desires he can no longer indulge in safely anymore. He does not have much of a choice.

A monster pretending to be a human, his interest for darkness slips into the occult, and the scientist begins to grow almost an obsession with the concept of animal transformation — the mere possibility of lycanthropy being a real phenomenon leading him to question how blurry the line between humans and beasts truly is, a question in which he is determined to find an answer to. Perhaps to understand more about himself.

Clarice Starling is not in the best place mentally. Being raised by a single father who despises her presence meant feeling like a stranger no matter where she went, a sensation that accompanied her during her entire life. The only form of connection she feels to her father is through their shared faith, for despite his disdain he had always brought her along with him to church. These days were the few where Clarice felt like she belonged to something.

But as she grew older in that supposedly hallowed environment and the expectations being placed on her shoulders grew heavier with time, looking at the mirror revealed a crooked image to her eyes. Skin prickling with uneasiness, she feels trapped. There is something inside her body that doesn’t want to be there — and it’s starting to claw its way out.

what's this?

a hannibal AU. mostly tv show-oriented but has a lot of tidbits from the novels/movies.

where can i read it?

it's not ready. but it will be posted to AO3.

when will it be ready?

when our lord apollo says so. (it's early development -- i do this for fun. im uninterested in setting any type of deadline for myself.)

how long will it be?

at the moment i estimate about 12 chapters. might double. 17 if you count prologue, epilogue and the 3 interlude chapters. aiming for roughly 8k words per chapter so roughly over 100k total.

what do you mean by 'clarice and will are the same character'?

i merged them into one single character (which is surprisingly not a difficult task given both of them are very vague characters) and hit him with the transgender beam afterward. very neat, actually. the werewolfism is somewhat a transgender allegory on its own. i'm a trans guy and this is my sort of love letter to my fellow brothers in the fandom.
