Trying to make my brain write for a fandom while I'm hyperfixating on another is like a child clinging to the playground and I'm yanking at it's legs with no avail...

I love being insane and rambling/loredumping for over an hour in a voice note about a niche thing in the lore/world of my nonexistent book that will probably never come up and is probably not important to the story at all that I know of because I haven't really started writing it yet besides two chapters and some snippets that were like a few years ago because I cannot be bothered to do research for a different WIP that is not even past the basic stages (the real inciting incident hasn't even happened) bc it's not a current priority before finishing the first draft that I have been working on for the last four years or the first draft of the other WIP I've been working on since the year two thousand and sixteen.
#just writer things#truly hate my brain sometimes like why am I getting trivia for a book I have barely written like 2#20K* words for like I haven't even opened the doc for it in like 8 months and I haven't actually added anything for over 2 years now so.#I don't even have any particular plans to get to it until I at least finish the 2 WIPs I'm working on rn—#which includes one I've been writing the first draft for since 2018 and a basically done first draft of a WIP from like 2016#both are missing the 3rd act bc I suck at writing cliamxes + my writing style for either books isn't suited for that so it'll take a while#like the 2016 one is at 120K words and literally only needs 1 more chapter and an epilogue so maybe like 20K more words.#there's supposed to be a big climactic battle which intersects the stories of approximately 25 named characters until the actual climax#which is another battle but more small scale but also more epic bc it's personal and magical#and I've literally already written the second battle but the buildup to the first fight is hard and so is the actual battle#then there's the WIP that's haunted me for the last 4ish years which is at 160K of an expected 200-220K and is entirely missing the 3rd act#like I have some stuff written and I did plan a structure for a bunch of the main plot stuff bc the book takes place over a strict timeline#but like the actual climax is mostly missing like I have the ending written. the ending is fully done.#I've had it written and planned for a WHILE bc it's supposed to lead into a future story and it has to happen this way#but idk how to get there just yet with a cast of almost 50 named characters to keep track of and 6 'main' plots although it's really 3#like it's a lot to balance bc I prefer writing with larger casts and just getting things done is so hard#bc I physically can't do 'write later' to stuff bc those are some of the most important interactions to me and idk how characters act if—#I don't have those written precisely. it's sort of a story about the effects of the mundane. I literally can't 'write details later' this.#and in the middle of this nightmare — a 4 month writing drought — my brain in like 'here's a bunch of shit about a third story'#god sometimes I simply hate my brain#anyway yeah lol#truly just writer things#owad#anyway guess this is me sort of pivoting back to vomiting about writing on this blog#writbelr#writblr#james rambles#James yells in the tags

Writing with Executive Dysfunction (or how to lower the barrier of entry)
So you want to write a book, but all you have is a cool one-liner, a niche super power you want to explore, and the blurry image of a love interest with a two-syllable kind of name. You don’t know where to start, what to tackle first, how to jump in the deep end.
Can you write the ending first? What if you want this really cool gimmick in a fight scene but can’t write action to save your life? Do you start in media res or with a prologue, or with the character starting their daily routine? Do you write the villain’s POV first?
Or do you start with an outline, character sheets, a title, summary, your themes and motifs? How many pages and pages of worldbuilding notes should you have built up before you’re good to tackle the first page? You’ve heard time and again the critical importance of the first three sentences. The first chapter if your audience is generous.
The pressure mounts to be unique, but not try-hard, descriptive but not flowery, intriguing, but not confusing, all in the first hundred or so words. You sit there staring at the little blinking black line on your blank page… and the idea gets shelved for another day. It collects virtual dust in the backlogs of your computer, forgotten until you have to clear out space on your hard drive and stumble across unspent potential.
Everyone and their dog has their own bits of writing advice and I’m sure I’m about to echo tips that have been around the block once or twice, but there are a few I don’t see talked about enough.
Whether you suffer from severe procrastination, fear of failure before you even begin, the overwhelming limitlessness of choice, or just can’t sit down and dedicate any time to see what happens, this list might be for you.
1. Write Every Day
This is nothing new, but I’m going to tackle the implementation of such a habit over why it’s important. You already know why it’s important. Writing every day doesn’t demand a full page of a Word doc, or 200 words before you can get up and do something else. Sometime a witty dialogue exchange comes to mind while you’re doing dishes – write that down.
Or you saw a cool name for a character in a commercial – write that down.
Or you had a dream about your characters in a high-octane street chase – write down the synopsis.
Personally, I use Apple Notes. It’s free, I can log-in to iCloud through a browser and keep writing, and my phone is always with me. I have dedicated folders to sort which notes belong to which concepts.
Disclaimer: Apple Notes is meant for exactly that: Note taking. I take it to the extremes, but it’s not a word processer. It’s not meant for anything more strenuous than putting virtual pen to virtual paper.
I build up so many variations of scene ideas and concepts for character arcs that my ‘notes’ for any given book can be as long as a full-length novel. Most of the time, admittedly, those ideas get outdated fast as I move on to bigger and better things, but the point is this: I never would move on to better things if I didn’t have somewhere to start.
I have a personal grudge against OneDrive for a sync failure losing 20k words of a WIP, so most of my writing is done through Google Docs and saved to Google Drive. It’s not the most powerful word processor, but you don’t have to worry about formatting until the very end and can export later. It’s free, like Apple Notes (assuming you have an iPhone), and the smart phone app for Google programs works phenomenally better than the MS Word app – so once again, the barrier for being within reach of places to jot down ideas is lowered. My phone is always with me.
It doesn’t have to be digital – carry around a journal or a notebook or a legal pad if you want. Whatever gets your creative juices flowing. The point is to have somewhere to take all the ideas you have in your head and get them onto paper the moment inspiration strikes.
2. Writing is Supposed to be Fun
The dreaded writer’s block, scourge of authors everywhere. You’ve reached the point in your manuscript where you’ve caught up to the epic adventure you’ve written in your head. The little writer in your brain has gone on strike and you’re left in the doldrums of how to transition from one chapter to the next. One idea to the next. One scene, one line of dialogue.
Answer: Skip it.
Unless you have a hard deadline to make, writing is supposed to be fun. Your best work comes when you’re passionate about doing it, not when you’re holding your fingers hostage to put something on the page or else.
When you start getting frustrated, walk away. When you get stressed, walk away. The manuscript will still be there once you’ve slept on it for a day or two and you’ll be glad for it. Or, write a different scene. Write a hypothetical scene (more on this point later). Write anything you want and come back to the hard parts later. The gaps will fill eventually, and if they don’t—consider what about that transition or scene is so hard and consider axing it entirely. If it’s frustrating for you, it’s probably boring or unimportant to the reader.
3. Script it
My favorite writer’s crutch is to make a skeleton of the scene I want to have, fill it with dialogue, and move on. The pretty thematic narrative can come later. It’s halfway between an outline and a first draft and, for me, someone to whom dialogue comes easier than narrative, this is another barrier removed to letting creativity flow.
I don’t have to think about dialogue tags or movement of a scene or how exactly I want to structure a sentence or describe the setting. Scripting lets me sus out the pacing of a given scene, test run a conversation I have in my head to see if it might really work before investing all the time and effort of a fully fleshed out first draft, only to erase it all later.
You can do this mid-narrative, too. If you just want to skip over a couple lines that aren’t coming naturally to you, script a vague sense of stage directions until you get to easier narrative and come back later.
When I say scripting, mine look something like this:
Character A (ChA): [position within the setting, tone of voice, any notable gesture or action that enhances the dialogue] “Dialogue.” [specific dialogue tag, if necessary] … (often a paragraph break) … “Dialogue.” Character B (ChB): “Dialogue.” [emotion, reaction, details about the setting that are now important, new revelations by the narrating POV] … “Dialogue,” [action. Tonal shift. Movement] ChA: “Dialogue.” [action] … (scene continues)
In practice:
… ChA: [kicks back against the wall of the room, arms crossed. Annoyed, waiting for ChB to speak first, but they don’t] “Why didn’t you tell me you wanted to leave?” [head tilts, still waiting on an answer ChB isn’t giving] “All you had to do was ask.” ChB: “You were having fun,” [quiet, wringing their hands in their lap on the edge of the bed] “You wanted me there. So I was there.” [huffs, flips their hair back. Not sure how many times they’ve had this conversation. Will always hate parties, not going to suddenly like them just because ChA is there] “You can either have me there, or make sure I’m comfortable. You can’t have both.” ChA: “So now I’m the bad guy.” [foot thumps on the floor like a judge’s gavel] …
Scripting also lets you fill a scene with multiple new characters before you figure out their names or descriptions, tagging their lines with the bare minimum. I often test out entire action scenes (which I loathe writing) in script form, so I know I’m satisfied with the pacing, blocking, and amount of movement before I lock it in and write the first draft of actual narrative. It also forces you to make sure your characters are taking actions and not just sitting at a table like talking mannequins.
Transitioning from script to narrative can be mighty tedious sometimes if you try to fit in chunks of narrative in the exact places you left on your initial pass. Fictional prose is organic, so let it breathe.
Maybe you let a character monologue for too long, or they have too much movement in a scene that becomes unnatural and clunky. Or the entire scene ran away from you because the conversation was just that good. Whatever the case, a script, bare minimum, gets your foot in the door.
4. Write Fanfic
I like sci-fi and fantasy. I also like taking my sci-fi and fantasy characters and throwing them into ‘fanfics’ to test out relationships and start to get a feel for what makes them unique from the rest of the cast.
Sometimes the setting changes to something mundane, sometimes it’s a hypothetical scene that the current pacing of the narrative just doesn’t have room for, or it’s a flashback you’ll never include but want to have written so it’s concrete when you reference it in the present.
It also helps you fall in love with your characters when you can write them without consequence, doing whatever, doing whoever, saying whatever, going wherever. In fanfic, their personalities can start to write themselves and you discover them as you write them. And, hey, sometimes you come up with a concept so good, you change the entire real narrative around to fit it.
All your attention doesn’t have to be on the story you’re actually writing.
5. Keep All of Your Deleted Scenes
I keep so many of mine, the ‘deleted scenes’ doc of one book is 40k words longer than the actual manuscript, filled with numerous variations of the same scene written over and over again in vain trying to keep something that no longer works.
Keep them for several reasons:
It reminds you of how far you’ve come.
You can pick through the bones for bits of dialogue and setting descriptors even if the majority is trashed.
You remind yourself of what didn’t work before, so you don’t fall in that same trap again.
If you change your mind, all you have to do is copy-paste it back in.
6. Remember First Drafts are First Drafts
Let the word spew flow forth from your fingers and don’t look back and start questioning every decision and all its flaws until your creativity tank starts sputtering on empty. It’s supposed to be messy, it’s supposed to have plot holes and typos and inconsistencies and things to fact-check. If you start hyper-fixating on making sure your manuscript has absolutely no errors before moving on to the next chapter, it will never get written, and you’ll convince yourself you’re a terrible writer.
Writing is easy. Revisions are hard. Just as storytelling doesn’t have to be linear, neither does the writing process. If that critical first line just won’t come to you, stuff a mediocre one in its place and move on. Write the ending first. Write all the romantic entanglements first. Write the big climactic argument first and figure out how the rest falls into place around your beautiful centerpiece.
But remember: You do, at some point, have to write the hard stuff. Hopefully, when the time comes, you look at all the rest you’ve written and are proud enough of your progress that those daunting scenes that looked impossible before become much more approachable now. Do it for your future readers who want to know how it ends. Do it for your characters. Do it for you.

WIP Wednesday
Thanks for the tag @eridanidreams .
If you are reading and have a WIP you would like to share please do!
Tag!
my wip is the next installment of the Sam Coe x Doc Melody fic.
Here's the ao3 version
Words: 1,303 Contains spoilers for the UC Vanguard questline and early main story mission.
“I have just as much right to those maps as anyone else in the family,” Sam shouted at Jacob.
Cora sat at the table, munching on some candy Jacob gave her. Sam had asked her to let him handle it but Cora wasn’t one to stay quiet, “It’s important, Grandpa. There might be a huge scientific discovery in the Nest and we’ll only know if we get there.”
“You’re not going to the Empty Nest,” Jacob spun on her, “it’s too dangerous.”
“Of course she isn’t, Jacob. I’ll be going with Sam,” Jamie said with a smile.
“You are?” Sam looked over at her, trying not to look too shocked.
Jacob scoffed, “You may have been raised in Ashta country but you’ve been softened by decades of desk work. The fringe would eat you alive.”
“I see you’re still projecting your own insecurities on others?” Jamie tilted her head to one side, “my research takes me to corners of settled space infested with spacers, crimson fleet, and just plain cranky, trigger happy survivalists regularly. Not to mention the xeno plentiful planets I’ve surveyed. I may appear soft, but I’m more than capable in a fight.”
Jacob stared for a moment, looking her over and trying to gauge whether she was bluffing. “Ashta aren’t spacers.”
Jamie rolled her eyes, “No, they’re big, chitin covered stalker predators that sit at the top of the food chain on Akila. And I’ve been facing them with shotgun in hand since my Dad figured out I could fire one without falling over. Stop trying to paint me as some fragile desk sitter when I’m anything but.”
“I’m not handing over the maps.” Jacob crossed his arms, “I will not let you two plunder the family legacy for profits.”
“What profits?” Sam shouted once more, throwing up his hands, “we’re trying to see why the place is void of life.”
“It stands to reason there is something there. Something you’ll run off with and ruin the Empty Nest forever.” Jacob glared at Sam. Jamie sighed and rubbed her temple. Sam went to yell some more but she held up a hand. She took a deep breath and looked at Jacob,
“You’re right, there is something hidden in the Empty Nest. And that thing is disruptive both to modern tech but also to the sensitive sensory organs of xenos like Ashta. That makes it incredibly dangerous for Akila City.”
Sam looked puzzled at her but held his tongue.
“It hasn’t hurt the city in 200 years,” Jacob said with a smug look.
She rolled her eyes, “I don’t mean directly. Use your head, Jacob. If the Empty Nest can’t be detected with tracking scanners and also isn’t full of Ashta then what might fill it’s walls?”
Jacob just stood there glaring.
“Sounds like a good place to hide things,” Cora said from the table with a wink, “maybe those dummies Dad talked down at Galbank were hiding there before coming to the City to rob it.”
“Exactly,” Jamie smiled, “smugglers already love caves. Finding a cave that can’t be traced is like natural shielded cargo. You can put whatever and do whatever you’d like.”
“Anything that is strong enough to deter Ashta would deter people,” Jacob insisted.
“Then how did Solomon find it?” Jamie asked. “Why doesn’t the story include him getting headaches or hiding the location due to dangers. No, he charted its location and talked about it openly because he wanted someone to follow-up on it. Sam is trying to do just that and you’re stonewalling him.”
“You aren’t getting the maps!” Jacob yelled.
“You owe me!” Jamie snapped back.
Jacob blinked. Then he shook his head.
“Yes, you do. And I kept the value estimates on those pieces I gave you. Maps or the full credit value.”
“You know I can’t…”
“Other option is I take up the matter with Leah. Let her know the arrangement and how you’re flaking out.”
“You wouldn’t dare, those where donated.” Jacob was losing color.
“I let you donate them under the agreement I would get something of equal value back.”
“You really think the maps are worth the old things you gave gramps?” Cora asked.
“I do,” Jamie didn’t break eye contact with the old man.
“The agreement was a favor. Like getting you access to a restricted site or…”
“Maps will do. Less work for you too, I know you’re getting up there in years and just want to kick back with a whiskey in hand.” Jamie was now the one looking smug.
Jacob looked like he was chewing his tongue, the silent tension suffocating the room. He reached into his suit pocket and threw a keycard at Sam, “for my office. Take the damn things and go. Cora stays here while you plunder the nest.”
“Was already the plan,” Sam caught the key and hurried to the office door.
“I don’t want to hear any whining about either of you getting hurt,” Jacob said to Jamie.
“Gramps, the Professor has fought terrormorphs, she can handle a few ashta.” Cora was walking over from the trash can as she spoke. Sam stopped just outside the office doorway, the maps now in his hands, and stared slack jawed at his daughter. Jacob shared a similar look.
“It’s a whole section in her latest book on biological threats to humanity from ancient times to now. She fought her first terrormorph on Tau Ceti when she went out to a meet people at a meat processing plant in a tiny colony for other research. The whole colony was dead except for one guest, a xenobiologiest named Hadrian Sanon and—“
“We’ve heard the SSNN reports about Tau Ceti, sweetheart.” Jacob said, “they never mentioned Dr. Melody.”
“I personally requested anonymity during the ongoing crisis. SSNN and FC outlets aren’t known for giving space to instant celebrity and if Hardian and I wanted any chance at solving the puzzle when we needed them to steer clear. After it was over I got permissions from the UC cabinet and the amnesty board to write about my experiences.”
“In the book she wrote about how it felt to have a terrormorph try to hijack your mind. How it made her hear things and see things and at times seemed to pull at her limbs but she was able to resist like Major Sanon and put the monsters down. And one of the Terrormorph in Londinion summoned an ARMY of xenos that burrowed out from under the ruined spaceport and they had to activate this old radio towers to play a frequency to drive them off while also fighting the massive thing.” Cora pointed at her dad, “they had the body of that one on display in the MAST district for a while, remember? We went to see it with Noel and Barret. It was HUGE!”
“It was huge,” Jamie agreed as she closed her eyes a moment and breathed, “wasn’t immune to shotgun blasts.”
Cora let out a bubbling laugh, “No it wasn’t! Blam, Blam, Blam and down it went!”
Sam tripped on his words as he tried to steer the conversation away from thoughts that terrified him, “alright, I think we all now know Doc here can handle herself so lets us go and find the nest. You were right, by the way, it’s smack dab in Shaw territory so we’ll need to be ready for xeno and human resistance.”
“What?” Jacob looked insulted. Not at what Sam said but the idea that Shaw could be set up on perceived sacred ground.
“You heard me,” Sam growled, “Jamie was right.”
“Alright you two,” Jamie winked at Cora and then strolled up to Sam and tugged his arm, “Let’s swing by my ship so I can grab my equipment and then we’ll go empty the Nest.”

Backstory rn i want details fandoms and all
HOOOOOO BOY
Alright sit yourselves down kids
IT STARTED IN 2020.
Dsmp phase, my first fic was a rewrite of the plot of the dsmp (self-insert ofc) with my own spin on things. I wrote it because quarantine and I didn't have much else to do, so I pulled up docs on my crappy windows 2010 model (it was so bad that upon starting it up, it would start overheating. Opening more than three tabs at a time caused it to crash) and began writing. Learned I loved to write, so I kept going with it.
2021 I had my hazbin hotel phase. Wrote a fucking like 400 page fanfic that was... (IM ASHAMED.) CHARLASTOR... I would say it wasnt them directly but it was, Alastor never stopped smiling and loved his mama, and "Charlotte" had her parents abandon her. The story was so shit. I tried to see if I could rewrite it, maybe change it a lot, but nope. So much shit happened that was so unnecessary I couldn't save it. I think the story was just me trying out different troupes and prompts.
HOWEVER, i did write shorter fanfics of the two (yeah i wrote a fanfic of my own fanfic fuck off okay leave me alone) that were somewhat OKAY. Like, they werent the best, but theh sure as hell had better structure than the first fic.
2022 i had a... actually what DID i have.. OH FJCK RIGHT
ENCANTO. THAT SHIT WAS SOOO BAD... I actually preordered a Bruno funko pop so thats cool. NOT RELEVANT. I MADE THIS BOMBASS STORY ABT THE CANDLE BEING EVIL AND IT WAS SOOOOO GOOD DUDE. LIKE SO GOOD. I LOVED IT.
And then i lost it. It’s gone. Actually i might be able to find it give me a moment.. found it. 200 PAGES OF DIFFERENT FICS I WROTE. There are 6 different stories in here. Christ these were actually kinda good
In late 2022 and all of 2023 i got into detroit become human. Uhh let me think.. OVER 1000 FUCKING PAGES OF THESE ROBOTS. 1000 pages, like 90 different fics, but only 23 were released. May release more. THESE WERE ACTUALLY GOOD. I LIKED A GOOD MAJORITY OF THEM.
And that brings us to 2024. What started as "hey dr facilier reminds me of Alastor ill write a fic" turned into a revisitation of my 2021 phase. Get me the fuck out of here.
Now, you may be asking "bruh didn't you write ur own stories tf" I DID! titles were never my strong suit but ill list the ones I wrote anyways
Edit: realised listing the titles was a risk cus i shared them w my irl friend LMAOO
1. Dark Romance, WIP
2. Action and sci-fi, completed, 500 pages
3. Slice of Life, never completed, 60 pages
4. Musical Story Attempt: 40 pages, never complete
5. Action, Dark romance, never completed, 120 pages
Ones I DIDN'T SHARE with her:
Identical Opposites (again, titles were not my thing lol): Romance, never completed, 300 pages
Thats it lol. Yeah every villian had their backstory DSMP was mine LMAOOO i blame you quarantine
Eh, but honestly, if I didn't get into writing, idk where tf i would be. Probably dead 💀

wip list
making a list of my spn wips to get sort of a idea of what i have to work on. most of these are saved on my laptop and google docs, but i have two that i began to post on ao3.
Nothing hurts worse than falling in love.
11k word destiel fic about dean pining over cas.
light in the darkness
3k word fic i began to write for one of my friend's birthdays.
Survivor's Guilt
my first midam fic; it's the one i’m currently working on. so far it’s 4k words. i'm trying to get this one finished this month. this is also the only thing i've written for these two, but i have so many more ideas for them.
Season 8 Dean Amnesia
the title is pretty self-explanatory. 17k words about naomi taking dean's memory.
cabin
2k words of cas and dean being snowed into a cabin for a few days and then kissing.
6k celebration
only 200 words of dean and cas going to get married. i wrote this for another blog's event before i had another idea and wrote that instead.
naked
1.3k words of a sam-centric fic i started based on finneas' song naked.
jack
7.5k word jack-centric fic about jack escaping from the winchesters after he's born but then meeting up with them later.
eyes blue like the titanic
oh man. this one. this one was going to be That Fic. it was supposed to be a season 12 rewrite with destiel. it's 45k words, and i'm not even halfway done with it yet. i haven't worked on this since 2021.

which of your eris wips is closest to being finished 🥹 i am a crack addict rn for your writing queen
Okay so I went through my google docs and here’s where I’m at wc wise, all of them are Eris x Rhys’s sister!reader. I have other Eris stuff in my tumblr drafts but they haven’t been moved over to my google docs yet
Secret mating ceremony - ~1k words
Eris killing Beron - ~200 words
Sub!Eris - ~300 words
Eris having his first night alone - ~400 words
Eris feral over baby bump - ~150 words
Accepting the bond - ~1300 words
Vacationing in summer - ~100 words
And I haven’t quite decided if this is Rhys’s Sister!reader or not but
The hounds knowing you’re pregnant before you do - ~400 words
I am desperate to finish something I just keep bouncing from fic to fic and they keep getting longer and longer 👁️👄👁️
I think out of all of these the mating ceremony one is the closest to being done

i’ve begun trying to sort through my fic prompts and WIPs (again) to get ready for july’s writing session, and the main thing i have accomplished  thus far is realizing what a mess i am dealing with.
i have WIPs on AO3, i have them in my google docs, i have nearly 200 unfilled fic prompts, i have many partly-written stories I never even started posting that just live in my tumblr drafts...but also i have 144 Tumblr drafts!
june is about to be over and i never caught up on last year’s movie reviews so i have never posted 2023′s watchlist or reviews of the ones i’ve seen, and at some point i realized that if I started to reply to an ask it would move to my drafts so i did that with a bunch of them to tidy my inbox a little, and now they’ve lost all context.
not to mention i’ve got ask games i randomly invented but never posted, and things that i do not even recognize at this point or understand. one of my drafts just says “Rock paper scissors but I want to be a flower“......what is that? was i just feeling philosophical that day? because i most certainly don’t have a clue at this point.

What kind of information do you have in your plot ideas doc? Is it sorted in any way? I’m just curious 👀
Ahh hi Cat, you kinda poked a bear with that because I have like, a super elaborate system thanks to the 200+ wips/prompts I've accumulated over time. 💀😂
I use Airtable to sort them because I just love it, and the overall thing looks like this:
Tumblr media
As you can see, I have 'tables' for each fandom that I write for, as well as one to keep track of fests and finished fics. They are all set up the same way, with additional columns not in the picture for 'starting date,' 'finishing date,' and 'submission for fest/challenge X' (this cross-links to the fest tracker btw which is just! mwah).
The coloured stuff you see are tags by which you can sort, which is what the pages indicated on the left are for - letting me sort by the status (just a prompt/in the planning state/currently being written) or by pairing, and then looking like this:
Tumblr media
All of that is entirely customisable btw, and it's obviously only for keeping track of basic info; I use OneNote for extensive notes on individual fics, which then looks like this:
Tumblr media
Fest tracker:
Tumblr media
Completed Fics tracker:
Tumblr media
Anyway! That's my slightly unhinged tracking process because I'm a bit nitpicky over organization and would go insane otherwise! If you have more questions on specifics or something absolutely feel free to hit me up, I loveeee talking about this stuff even if it takes me a while!!

Would like to say I LOVE all your empires works. I think Gem and Xornoth would have made some great interactions if they were seen together more in Canon.
I dont know if you're taking requests right now or if you were already planning to write this, but can you write a bit of the aftermath of the ending of "Words of Fire"? I love your work!
Ahh thank you! I wasn't planning on writing anything but this ask got the ideas flowing and I blacked out to find 200 words in a word doc lol
~
As Gem sprinted through the forest, she let out a laugh at the irony of the situation. Here she was, years after running away the first time, doing the exact same thing to the person who saved her.
No, not saved.
Xornoth didn’t care, they’d just been using her.
(But they’d kept her around after, a small part of her brain whispered. Wasn’t that proof they cared?)
She shook her head to clear it, focusing on her destination. The Crystal Cliffs was out, as was the Grimlands. They would expect her to go there.
The sun started to rise, and she muttered a curse. The minute Xornoth realised she was missing they would have guards searching for her, or worse, come look themself.
Finally pushing through the trees, her heart soared with hope when the empire came into view. Desperately knocking on the door, she leaned against the porch railings to catch her breath.
“Hello?” The ruler asked, opening the door with a concerned look. “Are you alright, do you need help?”
Nodding, Gem bowed low. “Your majesty, I formally request sanctuary from Rivendell’s king and their forces.”
The ruler gently nudged her upright, smiling softly.
“Of course. Why don’t you come inside and tell me what happened? And please, just call me Pearl.”
~
I am a sucker for Pearl and Gem's friendship, they are the beloveds
There is a possibility of even more another time but I wanna try and finish my current wip first haha

hii <3 about your WIPs, I'm actually curious about all of them, can you tell something about each?? (otherwise if i need to only choose one, then... Meanstiel fic)
Absolutely, thanks for asking!
- Cute shit
The idea here is that Cas comes back, and Dean is very soft and friendly with him. Not necessarily romantic right away. But he wants to spend time with Cas all the time and take him out and do stuff together. And then he almost dies, and Cas saves him, and Dean realizes he was being too hesitant. It's really just a collection of sweet little scenes.
- Meanstiel fic
I thought I made a post about this before, but I can't find it now so maybe I didn't. The premise is, what if honey!Cas was treated with a modicum of respect by the narrative? And Dean just has to deal with him that way? The set up is that the s7 finale happens, but without Dean and Cas getting sucked into Purgatory, and without Meg disappearing, and when it's over, Meg asks Cas to come with her and he does. And Dean is left being like wtf, and pissed off, but not really able to show it, because while he took the first step towards reconciliation, Dean's feelings about Cas are still all messed up.
So a few months pass before they cross paths again. For some kind of case. I don't have a clear plot worked out. But the character arcs are:
Cas: There is nothing "wrong" with him, he just perceives and talks about the world differently. He's still dealing with guilt through avoidance and self-sacrifice. When he's with Meg, it's easy because there's so little expectation between them. He wants something from Dean that he's denying due to guilt.
Meg: Letting herself be "saved", letting herself need someone else emotionally, letting someone care for her and caring for them in return.
Dean: I'd want Dean to be in a place where he's still thinking about "the very touch of you corrupts" at the back of his mind. Like he mostly got over his frustration with Cas at the end of s7, but he still has some frustration, but also it's caused by and masks an underlying sense of guilt on his part. Which is tied up shame for his feelings for Cas. And his journey is about learning to understand Cas again, that they can't go backwards. And falling in love with him again.
Sam: Sam would not feature very heavily probably, but I'd do a thing with him where he realizes that if Cas doesn't need to be "fixed" then maybe he doesn't need to be fixed either.
And basically the whole thing is, Cas and Meg show up again with this dynamic where Cas is still different, but Meg really understands him now, and they have this whole rapport, and they're sleeping together. And Dean feels like an outsider looking in, and he has to put work into reestablishing his relationship with Cas. And Meg and Dean have this kind of rivalry that they end up bonding over.
So yeah, I know where I want it to go emotionally, I just don't have a clear plot for it.
- possession idea
I have less than 200 words written on this. It's a dialogue where Cas visits Dean in a dream to tell him he's alive, but he can't see him on earth because he doesn't want to possess anyone again. So Dean suggests that Cas possess him, but in like, a bro-y kind of way. Like it'll be ~cool and ~fun. And then when Cas expresses doubt about it being a good idea, Dean flips very hard into being like, "please, I need you back" etc.
- s8 curtain fic
This is one that comes from a suggestion from an anon, about what would happen if Sam went through with the trials at the end of s8 and died. I have a long post about it here. I'm not sure that there's much additional in my google doc that's interesting that's not in that original post.
- status quo
This is the one I plan to write next when I finish Ignite Your Bones. It's based on a post by @restlesshush. The idea is that Jack brings Cas back as human, and he's convinced that his relationship with Dean is ruined. Meanwhile, Dean is wrestling with his feelings and it's making him weird and awkward. Basically, Dean and Cas are both absolutely struggling, but they're struggling in their own heads while trying to act normal around each other. It should be cringy and cute.
Thanks so much for asking!

5 & 6 for the ask game :D
5. How many wips do you have? What fandoms/pairings are they for?
...oh no.
ok, uh, hm... this is hard for me to answer because if you mean wips as in fics i've started, well... I literally can't count I have too many fics. if we're talking, like, all of my fandoms ever over the years?? that's well over 100+, if not 200+ google docs of unfinished shit.
now for dsmp? honestly I wouldn't be surprised if I had, like, 50 or more unfinished wip documents. I know i have well over 100 docs in my dsmp fic folder just in general, so based off how often I finish stuff, at least 40-50 of them have gotta be wips.
NOW THOUGH, what i classify as wips is usually "what I think I will actually get around to publishing and finishing" so this is not counting anything abandoned, or anything I started writing with the intention of never actually finishing it or publishing it. in that case, I would say counting my ongoing stuff and those types of unpublished things i have... 7?? maybe 8?? these are only things I know that almost for sure i will publish in the near future or that I already have ongoing
oh yeah they're all for dsmp obviously, and all of them (except for one possible idea that I'm still not sure if i'll write or not) are crimeboys centric. the one exception is still technically about crimeboys, but it's a phil-centric piece
6. What’s the last line you wrote?
Wilbur was lucky the holo-pad didn’t break when he slammed it on the table.
ty for the asks!! these are so fun!
ask game!

TALK ABOUT YOUR OCS THE WORLD NEEDS TO HEAR!!!
First is Jacques. He's a 200+ year old vampire. Charming as hell, will flirt with just about anyone. He's a whumpee. He does have some power to discourage people from certain actions. He has the philosophy of 'treat people better than they deserve'. Pup is another character. A guy in his mid twenties. He's only been a vampire for a short amount of time and during that time he's been conditioned to be the perfect pet/whumpee. There is Gala, a caretaker bent on revenge for the death of her family. There are the villains, the human whumpers. Twin brothers: Gravan and Ortwin Grosvenor. Gravan is a scientist, Ortwin is a monster hunter. Both have a philosophy that goes along something like "We do this for humanity" which means they have a total disregard for treating non-humans humanely. I also have my murder vampire bois. But they are so bad I don't think they deserve to see the light of day :) I also have another series I want to work on but the vampires have over taken all the brain space. The second series I currently referr in my head and google docs is called the Merporium. It is a world involving tiny merfae and is t/g. I actually just finished some more artwork for that one, despite only having one drabble out. Latiil is a rainbow merfae. This one is pretty heavy lady whump as a warning. But it has the potential of being very fluffy, accidental whump and scared whumpees. And actually I have a third story I'm working on. Technically I started that one before the other two. It is about a female fae, or winged fae, heavily inspired by @wildfaewhump. That one follows the odd habits of a winged fae who is willing to abandon the sky for the depths of mines, ignoring the fact that iron burns her skin. She still doesn't have a name she's revealed to me as of yet. But I do know that she is seeking for something underground. I'm not exactly sure what it is yet. I also have my huge stack of 20+ WiP for Loki fanfiction. But you asked about OCs.

For the WIP ask game, I'm asking 9, 15, and 17!!! <3
hello, thank you for asking!! <3
9. What’s the biggest reason this project is still a WIP?
no time and adhd is the answer for most of my wips, but some of them i've hit pretty major writer's block on. aftermath in particular i was stuck on forever because i couldn't write a final scene that felt satisfying to me and i finally realized that the beginning was throwing off everything after. i've also been stuck on a james bond au i thought would be hilarious to write but i can't think of a good plot for it so it just sits in my docs.
15. What has been the easiest thing about working on this WIP so far?
oh, gosh, i don't think there's ever one single aspect of writing a wip that is consistently easy for me, so it changes depending on the project. i won't go down the list of all of my wips because it's way too long but for the wheel of fortune (my superhero au) the entire plot came to me very quickly, which is extremely rare. i just sat down to write a handful of scenes that were stuck in my head and after a few days of that i realized i basically had the entire story. usually i have to work to make everything make sense and flow from point a to point b in logical ways, but that one just came together on its own.
i have another wip i call heliocentric that's set in an original au that i've slowly just built up over time and creating that world has been surprisingly fun for me because big original worlds are not something i typically enjoy creating, but everything has just come to me very easily with that one. of course the downside is now i have so much content i want to include that doesn't really have a place in the storyn itself.
17. What POV is your WIP written from?
okay, this is actually always a struggle for me because i go into most of my new wips blind. i just have a cool idea and a handful of scenes and interactions that won't leave my brain, and so i write those and a lot of times they're not in the same pov as the others. like, i'm not against changing povs throughout a narrative (clearly) but i want to do it in ways and places that make sense and not, like, 500 words of one pov then 200 of someone else's then 450 of another because i feel like that's distracting. so i struggle with this. i'm actually having a really hard time with this exact problem in both new york is faster than yesterday and as time goes by because i want to change povs every three paragraphs and i just can't do that. bruises was written as a side piece to another wip i'm working on specifically so i could have an excuse to write flash's pov because the whole story is otherwise peter's pov.
anyway, if one character is hiding something significant it's easy for me to stick to one pov so that character can keep their secrets, but otherwise this is very very difficult for me.

AO3 wrapped: 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, and 12
5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected? This one, which still baffles me because it's less than 500 words and I more or less threw it together... and yet it has the most hits out of any of my fics haha
6. Favorite title you used just close your eyes (you'll be alright) it's just tender and perfectly summed up the whole vibe for this one
7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most? Taylor Swift ♡
10. What work was the quickest to write? This one was a very short, very last minute thing for Chenford Week
11. What work took you the longest to write? Oh man, I'm a slow writer (overthinker over here!), so it's hard to say. I think at least in terms of how long has this been a WIP (vs actual time spent actively writing it), this one. I remember talking to @nancyddrew about the idea of taking the "it wasn't just biology" prompt and trying something different with it, and then it took me approximately 200 years to figure out what I wanted to, how to make it work, etc.
12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year? This is a hard question, because I was so incredibly blocked that I seem to have completely forgotten anything I was considering writing? I have a file where I have things all sorted (completed fics, in-progress, vague ideas, lyrics that might work for titles, and just random chunks of writing that didn't quite fit into previous fics but I was unwilling to just delete - I'm a nerd like this) and just looking at it now, I have a couple of AUs that I've considered, a super random outsider POV fic that may and may not come to fruition, a few things that others have already written better than I could imagine, and some fragments of post-ep ideas that feel so foreign at this point... I'm honestly hoping the new episodes will spark some ideas, because now that I've managed to write again I'm desperate to keep the momentum going. (Sorry for giving the longest, most convoluted answer ever here 🙈)
Thank you!! AO3 wrapped - ask me questions :)
