i owe everyone a smol collection and commentary to wips/scraps i did before, during and after the fime i went into ur average cliche hollywood cringe emo phase

^^ THIS. oh my god, where do i even start about this.

MY GOSH this was like, the last thing i did b4 i fully succumbed to burn out as a whole LMAO

i made this becoz i got inspired by marc brunet doing yoneyama mai’s style vid that passed by my feed as i scrolled through hoards wanting even a single dose of motivation to prevent what i knew was an upcoming artblock.

and y’know me, i HEART yoneyama sm. so seeing that was my absolutely yumyum cup of tea—temporarily 😭

u see, EVERYTHING WAS GOING SO WELL⁉️ until i reached my limit at (unsurprisingly) hair shading.

needless to say, this was scrapped becaz—sure, the idea was overall wonderful—but the way i did the blue moon weed flower and the lighting was just NOT it for me at all. nuh uh (i essentially went through a major sob story era after this BUT i convinced myself it was just a phase—and guess what? IT WAS!! showed myself i own me n i do me 🗣️ WHOS THE ALPHA⁉️😈)

(..i aint ever physically, mentally, emotionally nor spiritually recovering from typing that.^)

^basically, after struggling to find myself for a while, i soon fortunately managed to get back to it in the slightest!;) andddd so, recently, i alas decided to do something just for me.

no more frieren fridays(+apothecary dairies) were honestly hella extra upsetting when it happened during an existential crisis moment. but hey, i got to finally draw some characs i rlly love!

these are some 30 min warmups to both challenge and to have fun myself considering its been quite some time since ive picked up my pencil and done smth worth my while.

personally content with this. moreover, it genuinely helped a lot for me to start drawing stuff again;)

^now a quick sketch i did with a palette that was somewhat out of my comfort zone.

YEAHHHHH!!! Talking about this sketch and the implications makes me very unwell. Also the little gesture of happily resting his chin in her palm is just like something a sweet doggy would do before looking up at you with confused yet earnest eyes and then wagging his tail hopefully. He's so doggy like to me. Do you know what I mean? You know what I mean <333

Agsbdjnk the clipboard. A silly little sketch but with visual storytelling. It's absolutely tryouts or something similar. I imagine that Willow is the only EE player that is dedicated to playing longterm while the others have a lot of fun during their time on the team but eventually move on to other ventures after a year or two. Once Boscha improves her behaviour after FTF, I could see Skara wanting to return to playing grudgby. She seemed to really love it. So Willow and Hunter are on the ball near immediately to find a replacement. And with the Flyer Derby renaissance Willow has lowkey started at Hexside, there's a way bigger turn out than the last time she needed recruits.

Judging by Hunter's level of relaxed contentment and Willow not giving it much notice, a good chunk of time has passed since the events of W&D. They're very attuned to each other, having probably been joined at the hip for a while now.

(We're gonna ignore the fact that Hunter doesn't have his post TTT scars. Presumably Dana just forgot agsbdjk.)

In the left pic, I don't think he's unwilling to be touched. He's definitely excited about wherever the FUCK this is going. But he looks stiff and his smile is twitchy, clearly nervous. Which implies that he's not that used to Willow being so touchy with him and he's a little out of his depth. My headcanon is that grom was when they officially got together, after months of situationship shenanigans. With that little idea in mind, this is just the beginning of their relationship.

When it comes to the pic on the right, I imagine it's also quite early in the dating stage. Early enough that they've only just broached the exciting world of more intimately affectionate touches. Which Hunter has evidently not built up an immunity to yet. Still melts every time.

Yeah that is definitely a boy who has only been in a relationship long enough to discover that he loves the feeling of his face being held, but also a boy who's so comfortable in his relationship that he's not shy about seeking out affection when he wants it. Even in public.

So he's still swoony but not shy about it anymore. So I'd say a few weeks-a month or two into dating.

(Also the haircuts align with this little timeline I've made up in my head. Willow has cut her hair short for grom, while it's in the season 2 short stubby braids during tryouts. So it HAS grown out but only a little. Meanwhile Hunter's hair has grown out a bit during grom, but looks recently trimmed during tryouts. There's no real significance to this. I watched a Dana livestream once where she said she'd rather just draw short hair Hunter because the long hair noodle is annoying to draw. But asgbknk! I like to make up implications where there are none. Anyway my hc is that Willow and Hunter do not just decide on a signature hair length and keep it forever. They spend the next three years bouncing back and forth between long and short styles.)

ANYWAY Willow is absolutely hyping Hunter the fuck up as the Golden Star of her team!! The best and the brightest!! Her pride and joy as a Captain. The purpose is to get the candidates all excited to do their best to get a spot on this epic team so they can play alongside him, but Hunter misinterprets Willow's praise as sweet talk and smiles and blushes appropriately.

Agsbdjnk it's so funny. He totally understood that the goal was to get their potential players PUMPED and he was excellently playing along with riling them up. But that glowing review of his character distracted him and now he thinks they're flirting. So the super cool badass disposition he had adapted for the newbies was promptly thrown out the window because hehehehe my girlfriend is so nice to me 🥰 Bro has forgotten where he is. Head empty.

So when Willow juts out a hand to aggressively present ✨️Him✨️ to the audience, Hunter's already gooey brain just says put chin in hand because sweet girl soft girl my girl.

Willow is a little thrown off but when she feels the weight of his face but just rolls with it and keeps going. She even gives him an affectionate little caress. I think she recognizes that he's misunderstood the tone a bit and has decided to not tell him. He usually gets very embarrassed when its pointed out that he's made a social error and she doesn't wanna do that to him. It's harmless and its cute, who cares? He's a little confused but he's got the spirit.

how’s the art book? I’ve been trying to find pics online but I haven’t found many. any cool trivia?

i really like having it! i love the full-page spreads of background paintings, they're beautiful. we get turnarounds of every character, and expression sheets for several. it's nice to have clear references and see some range of emotion we didn't see in the show proper

some interesting stuff i never would have thought of, too. like a floor plan for the sewer sinclair works in, the lighting effects on characters' powers, robot's eye displays, fun details like that. if there's anyone/anything specific you'd like pictures of, i can try to get them for you!

the only real disappointment for me was the lack of concept art. i really like seeing the process of character design and the drafts that didn't make it, even if a lot of these guys didn't change that much from page to screen. there's some discussion of that, but not a lot of examples shown

trivia:

the grayson home had no consistent design in the comic, and kirkman wanted them to have a sort of nonsensical house with no fixed layout in the show too. this didn't pan out obviously

a lot of the iconic gory shots were done by the character designers rather than the animators, and some scenes had to be re-boarded to match the intensity of the action with the brutality of what they'd drawn... every seemingly random blood splatter was done with artistic intent ❤️

nate bellegarde got super attached to the background heroes we see at the guardian tryouts. some of them have names and a little bit of backstory in here too. there's a green goop guy named Big Mildew who didn't make it to the screen but he's in this book

there are designs, somewhere, of mark & amber in prom outfits. eve used to have a whole collection of pins on her jacket. bellegarde always thought that cecil was from texas and should have a cow skull bolo tie. i wish we got pictures of all this

dou hong thinks they picked the ugliest outfits out of all the ones she drew for debbie

rex was designed to be "as different as possible" from mark in the show, which is why he now has a one-piece visor instead of goggles like mark's

ryan ridley came up with the bit about ka-hor the mummy and everybody thought it was really funny

kirkman wanted to reference different styles/genres in each episode, for instance s1e5 being a crime drama and s1e6 being horror

season 1 was more self-contained because they didn't know if the series would get to continue, which is why in the viltrum flashback they made sure to include recognizable characters like thula, kregg, and conquest. just in case that was all we ever got of them

A little bit late, but I'm gonna jump in on the recent "RC uses AI art" bandwagon. I understand where you're coming from — I'm an aspiring translator and even before the whole AI craze I had no idea how tf I'm gonna look for a job once I'd graduate, but now the situation's even more dire. That being said, I think we really really REALLY shouldn't jump to conclusions about in this case because

do we actually have any proof that it's AI generated art besides "it looks like that"? Because AI... doesn't really have a "style", it's literally gonna look like the art you feed to it/what it finds on the web. I've already seen at least one instance of artists being told that their art is actually AI generated just because it looks similiar. CGs in all stories are usually more realistic-looking, imo, and showcase the biggest differences between different artists' styles. All of this is speculation is conjecture, but like, so is the whole thing about RC using AI art in the first place. So I'll just move on to more solid argument

just last month, on August 4th, RC announced an open call for hiring artists. I guess this vacancy was targeted at CIS countries since as far as I'm aware they didn't crosspost it to Facebook or Twitter or anywhere besides VK and Telegram channel. On 28th they stopped accepting applications from artists and are, most likely, currently continuing the tryouts. My point is: what kind of company would resort to using free AI and then go and hire real humans you actually have to pay? It just doesn't make sense

Here is my translation of these posts about the whole hiring business and screenshots. I'll send you links via another submission or ask because I'm afraid tumblr might nuke this one

As a side note, it is possible that some of the artists may use AI without their hire-ups and writers and so on even knowing that — unlikely, I don't have any proof of that, but it's a possibility. But I feel that the only thing we're doing here is treading muddy waters of conspiracy theories. I'm repeating myself, but it just seems unlikely that there's actually any AI involved when the company in question just started hiring new artists. You may argue that they had to use AI for the most recent update because of the staff shortage but once again: let's not dive into conspiracy theories. Okay, I took longer than I needed to, but I rest my case

I agree with you on some points, it could be the artist using it without the company knowing and it is a possibility (although I think would be naive of them). But I believe that hiring artists and using AI is something that can happen simultaneously, in the beginning. One thing may not have to do with the other either. That said, it has caught our attention because the style has changed drastically from one update to the next and is very similar to how AI-generated images look. The public used to complain that the characters didn't have realistic poses and out of nowhere they change some to something ultra-realistic (without being able to see a real evolution until reaching this point), almost like a painting which happens to be very similar to how the AI works with images. It's something to be suspicious of, we shouldn't straight accuse them, but being suspicious and sharing our distrust is valid, given that many companies have recently been doing this. And if an employee is using AI and they know about it, It has to be approved by someone at the company, and it carries the company name. I don't think they're that naive (an artist's style changes suddenly and no one wonders why).

Since when they see that using AI is cheaper (or costs almost nothing) and it's fast, they have to make a decision, ethical or not.

Let's see what will happen, but I hope for a good outcome! I love RC stories and would be shame if they go for this path.

And of course, this is absolutely my opinion on this, you can agree or not and that's ok for me.

I'm about to make this everyone's problem

When their father had invited the bastard Triton did his best to avoid the quote unquote bonding, that Poseidon insisted that they participated in. More annoying no matter how many barbs and comments he made towards the boy he would not respond the way he expected an arrogant hero would.

He didn’t know much of Perseus, just some titles that fish would gossip about and in general that he was the bastard of the sea. The kingdom referred to him as the littlest prince which absolutely made his blood boil. Perseus had no idea of what responsibilities, and such came with the title. His anger continued to roll through him. The night was truly the only time he could get some distance from the stubborn little brat.

It was the third day since the boy had arrived and yet he found his nerves to already be shot. “I cannot believe father would bring him here.” he seethes under his breath strolling in the garden. Annoyingly enough the little terror had found comfort in the exotic sea plants so most of his strolls were interrupted by insistent questions of the most common knowledge. He was like a guppy in that respect, full of gaps of knowledge. He rolls his eyes smoothing his hair back, letting it down from the slicked back hair style he had in. He was just starting to relax when a piercing scream jolted him up, trident materializing in his hand before he could further process where it was coming from.

Perseus.

Someone DARED to attack the child in the palace?

Triton grits his teeth as he shoots through the water, pushing himself to go faster, clouds of fish outside the boys balcony, they swarm him once he was in sight, pleading rapidly to help the little lord, to save him- the door blasts open swinging off their hinges. He was ready for danger, for an assailant, but there was..nothing. Just Perseus writhing on his bed, screaming and gasping for breath. His face was twisted like he was experiencing torture of the greatest kind.

“Perseus? Truly a nightmare causes you to wail?” He hisses out tryout, to hide the fact his limbs trembled with relief. No assailant trying to assassinate the little bastard. The boy didn’t wake so he crept closer, in fact he was surprised when that made it worse. Celestial bronze suddenly illuminating the room ripping through the covers with ease and in turn his flesh, the sword slicing, golden ichor joining the glow. He lets several curses out, yanking the weapon from the boy. “Wake! Perseus!” He snaps, shaking the boys shoulders, grunting when the boys legs make contact with his middle.

Ugh mortals and their ridiculous habits... well Father wasn’t here, and frankly he could not handle hearing the boys wails. Why not put the flailing body somewhere safe enough to make him relax? “You’re ridiculous, absolutely- there are guppies younger than you who can settle after nightmares” He grumbles to himself, shifting his size, keeping the wriggling boy in a loose fist. He flinches when Perseus fights harder, still unable to wake as it seemed, teeth sinking into his flesh as the boy tried his hardest to escape.

It was as if he was fighting for his life... A sense of unease slowly settled in the pit of his stomach as he watched the small thing nearly take a chunk out of his hand, golden ichor clouding the water as Perseus clenched his jaw tighter. He didn’t look like an arrogant child at the moment, no, he looked like a desperate child.

What had he gone through?

What had his father neglected to tell him about his half brother?

Before the boy could continue to try and escape via chomping on his hand Triton brings the small form up to his face, shoving him in to his mouth quickly once Perseus let go to get a breath. There was a surprised kick from Perseus, Triton not even bothering to give time to adjust before he swallowed thickly. Personally, he didn’t want to experience what the boy would do to escape this..not only that he was concerned about his teeth cutting the frankly delicate boy. Unconsciously he runs his tongue over his teeth, wincing at the sharp points that greeted him.

He sighs as he feels the lump travel down his throat and soon a heavy weight spills into his stomach. He closes his eyes with a sense of nostalgia washing over him. How long had it been since he had such a small life tucked inside his being like this? The thrashing weight settled nearly instantly, as if a switch was flipped, Perseus stilling.

The corners of his lips quirk up into a small smile, hesitantly resting a hand over his middle. There was no indication that Perseus was even tucked away into his stomach. Just smooth skin concealing his younger brother. He settled rather..nicely inside. “An absolute guppy, that’s what you are you little brat.” He murmurs, blinking when he feels the boy nuzzle into the stomach wall. Small hands pressing against the flesh as he tried to get settled. A bloom of fondness spreads throughout his chest at the motion. So small and yet...

“This does not change a thing between us. Remember, that you are a bastard.”

There was no answer, unless the little whine was one. A small chucckle bubbles out of him, trying not to move too much to avoid jostling the small occupant inside. It was almost concerning how quickly Perseus had settled once inside. He would need to figure out what exactly caused his younger brother to fly into such a state.

He waves his hand, the Ichor that had spilled clearing from the water at the motion. He looks to his hand, the bite having healed already, as well as the slash the boy had managed to get in. A warrior for sure..how old was the boy again? He lightly rubs his middle, yet against surprised when the boys weight settled against where his hand rested.

There was a lot he didn’t know about his brother...perhaps he should explore that.

♧ one of those people that has wake up alarms set every five minutes (5:30am, 5:35am, 5:40am) because he doesn't get up at the first alarm. you realize why osamu is so annoyed with him.

♧ two words: retail therapy. whenever this man gets stressed, he will spend his entire savings account jk, man is rich-rich on random things that catches his eye, ranging from clothes he'll probably never use, useless trinklets, and albums from bands he doesn't listen to.

♧ goes to the same restaurant he goes to every single day and stares at the menu for ten minutes as if he's planning to try something new before deciding on getting the meal he always gets. the only time this changes is when he goes to onigiri miya because he knows how good his brother's cooking is and he doesn't want to miss out on anything. in that case, he tries everything that's on the menu.

♧ cherishes whenever someone, usually a fan awes at his hair or fantasizes about running their hands through it because god and literally anyone in his life knows it is CRISPY. he has been dying and bleaching it since he was sixteen and his hair is NOT OKAY 💀💀 ignorance is bliss though so whenever someone tags him on twitter thirsting about how his hair would look better with their hands in it, he doesn't say a word.

♧ doesn't know how to whistle and (spit) launch watermelon seeds. atsumu is a man talented beyond belief, but alas, he cannot have everything. he always gets teased by his brother for the former, and his high school friends for the latter. one of his clearest memories were the volleyball summer training camps he, along with his team, had to attend during his high school days. upon learning he can't shoot watermelon seeds, all his friends started a watermelon seed war, leaving atsumu vulnerable and pouting in the corner since he could do nothing but pout, dodge, and try some more, only to fail. it's magic, he's convinced.

♧ i feel like his transition from his high school hairstyle to his current hairstyle was a complete mistake. after graduating, he wanted to try something new so he searched up some styles and tried to recreate it all by himself. one day, he couldn't do the Hairstyle Of The Day so with an annoyed yell, he just messed his hair all up. that was before he realized he was late for his tryout for the msby black jackals so without an option left, he just went out like that. the hair got a few compliments though so he decided that he'll just keep it.

♧ has debated getting a tongue piercing for a long, long time. probably still thinking about it as we speak. osamu says he doesn't care, that if it does turn out well, he doesn't care, or that if it turns out bad and he gets some acute infection, it'd be good for his ears so it'll be able to get some rest from atsumu's day-to-day blabbering. needless to say, asking his brother for a second opinion did not help.

♧ listens to doja cat religiously and can rap all of her songs effortlessly without making a single mistake. you can fight me on this one.

♧ the person in group chats to either never be active or send ten messages in five months. there is no in between with him.

♧ lowkey wishes him and osamu didn't tease each other so much. this man just wants to gossip with his brother sometimes, but it always ends with the both of them arguing and going at each other's throats because one teased the other and it escalated. when he wants to talk about something serious though, he knows he can count osamu to be serious about it too.

♧ for people who wears glasses/contacts, you know those people who are like can you see this?? or how many fingers am i holding up?? when you first get them? yeah, atsumu's that person.

♧ has a secret stan twitter account dedicated to himself. it is actually quite scary how he's able to blend in so well. none of his moots are suspicious of him at all. he makes fancam edits of himself and all.

♧ the friend who considers ten thirty pm early whenever you go out drinking, but is already almost passed out after fifteen minutes.

♧ .. likes sticking his tongue out in photos...

♧ pretended to like the taste of artificial grape back when he was younger just to spite his brother who we all know has the superior tastebuds. it bit him in the ass though because since he's so committed to it, his parents, friends, and other family members actually thought it was his favorite even though he hated it, so as a result, they always bought him grape flavored candies or saved the grape flavored sweet for him while osamu got the lemon soda (aka the superior flavor) flavored ones.

i know its not gonna be for awhile BUT i like to be prepared!! what do applications look like? do we apply with an oc/adoptable or is it just ✨vibes✨ (i.e background check, i know some rps only ask for socials and a writing sample instead of characters!)

Hi anon! It's always good to get prepared, and while there will be a lot that is subject to the individual opening — for example, character specifics that might depend on the lore established for our next opening — we can definitely provide you an outline and a look into the application process based on previous rounds! There are some things that stay generally consistent, as well as some things we can give insight to as far as the future.

First off, ThreeClans handles applications through creating an original character and applying with their information — along with some of your own, of course! We tend to use both character information and player information in tandem to provide us with the most comprehensive view of who we're letting into our server. Sometimes, depending on the application round, we have adoptable characters available for tryouts too, but this is highly dependent on the individual round of applications. In recent rounds, we've featured adoptables in Moving Mountains, which was an exclusively adoptable based opening, and in Next to Nowhere, which featured some adoptable characters as well as the ability to apply for original characters.

Below are some screenshot snippets of previous application forms, both from adoptable forms (the first provided screenshot) and original character forms (the second provided screenshot). These are a little preview of the general kind of questions that will be asked when we're digging into character information we'd like to see provided!

One big thing we look for in applications is submissions that fulfil the guidelines we've set forth. A lot of times we'll receive submissions that in some way miss our guidelines (submissions for cats who already have clan names — all cats who join ThreeClans are introduced as loners / rogues / kittypets who join the clans or the Trove in roleplay, as opposed to the idea of them having been warriors who were supposedly "always there" and retconned into the timeline, submissions that vastly fall below our ideal length of a paragraph minimum, etc.) and are therefore automatically disqualified.

We also do ask for roleplayer information on our forms. Below is a preview of some of the questions we ask in that regard!

We request a roleplay sample as well to get an idea of your writing style, though you're free to provide whatever you'd like for this — fresh writing, something done just for the application specifically, etc.

With regards to opening specifics, a lot of character customization and making them "fit" with an opening comes down to information that is provided during the promotion of an opening. After all, you can make a character work with just about any kind of lore or group if you really want to, but we will provide more information on just where your character will be coming from so that you know what sort of surrounding companions they might be associated with prior to joining the group, what sort of culture might have informed their upbringing should they be established as a solid part of their loner group, and things such as this! For example, in our last Trove opening, the loner group that became a part of their ranks was known as The Hunters and had customs that allowed them to "hunt" and communicate with ghosts or spirits. This came with specific rituals and lore documents, so any cat well established in the Hunters would be able to incorporate these elements into their backstory via application for a more established feeling if so desired!

The Trove itself is a unique group within ThreeClans that has customs that vary from a clan. Its ranking system follows the four seasons, with the season a cat is born during establishing the role they will play within the Trove. Okay so I can't find a platform to watch Formula 1 and its drinking me crazy😭 But I've been following and watching the latest updates through twitter and I have to admit I'm a little confused as to how the weekend exactly goes because I thought the race was in Sunday, the tryouts are in Saturday and they determine who starts in which position in the race and Friday is for testing the cars but the twitter updates have me all confused. Please help😭 And you said you had some suggestions of f1 accounts on tik tok and I would love if you share some, thank you🌷

And you are totally right. That's the usual setup for the weekend. But there are some race weekends with something called a sprint (a very short and very fast race) just for some excitement and drama.

This is a sprint weekend! (the first in 2023). So we have the proper race tomorrow (the qualifying for this was yesterday). We have the sprint race today (the qualifying just finished).

From the next race we'll go back to the normal race style you mentioned - until sprint weekend comes up again later!

This is a really cool tiktok account and she explains everything so perfectly. If you want an insta rec, this is one I follow. But it's a bit advanced I feel. I'd recommend the tiktok one :)

Hi y’all! This is Anya Blake here, and thanks for tuning into my channel! Remember to like, comment, and subscribe for more awesome content! Today I have a much requested vide - I’m going to show you a day in my life!

First things first, I get up early so I have time to do my hair and makeup before school. This is today’s fit! I love the black heels!

Once I’m dressed and ready, I get my little sister Gemma - she’s my special responsibility - up and dressed. She looks so sweet in her purple romper! She’s going to be a fashionista just like her big sister.

School wouldn’t let me film during the school day - the teacher took my camera away!! So RUDE! But luckily they didn’t take my phone away, so I snapped this cute picture of me and Brooklyn between classes! Can you believe we’re twins?? We look SO different!

Once we get home, it’s time to get some exercise in! I want to join the cheerleading team, and tryouts are next week! I love to do a yoga routine on the porch. I don’t want to do any heavy weights in case I get BULKY!! Cheerleaders can’t be bulky!

After I worked out, I made myself a salad for dinner. Mom asked me to cook for the whole family tonight since she was tired, but I reminded her of her godly duty as a mother to take care of us all, and took my salad up to my room to eat.

Before bed, I always take the time to pray about my day and for everything I want in the future! Some people call this ‘manifesting’ but I know that it’s truly the power of PRAYER and GOD!

i dont have time rn for a comprehensive real review on what i felt abt the last couple issues of black adam 2022 and yes ive been championing (lol) that book for malik this whole time despite my...beef...with modern black adam stories... and i dont hate priest's writing style at all and i stand by that it's actually kind of refreshing for a story like this. but i really can only stand so much black adam fanboyisms coming from dc writers i have to admit.. esp when they want him so badly to be this gary sue that just never comes across the way they want. it kind of feels an echo too of geoff's jsa which i think is what all black adam iterations are just trying to uphold now. at least priest's narrative wasn't unbearable.

priest is at least trying to subvert some of the antihero plot holes in this by at least giving adam an outcome that feels kind of like a valid enough solution to the problem proposed in issue 1 (being that he wants so badly to separate himself from his past). i do personally feel priest lost the plot somewhere around the batman feature issue/secret league tryouts??? and anyway i don't think there was enough character development going around for anyone in here to really say it succeeded fully.. but that might be debatable

i'm not going to really try to go at length about the akkad plot.. like it was fine i guess. i feel like i'll forget what happened in the book tho lol. BUT anyway!!!! malik letting him get mugged. just flying away. sorry that was great i dont care. im so interested in where malik is supposed to go from there because theres still like..unsolved matters with him (the RING?? like if adam is split now is malik ok... or are they still bonded?? well...) and just how he's supposed to fit in the world at all. i really fear theyre putting him in limbo lol anyway it was...fine... i think priest had a lot of ideas and put them all in this book and i dont find that objectively bad but.. definitely not the place for just 12 issues to properly explore imo

Knowing yourself

Hey everyone, today I would like to talk about knowing oneself, do you really know who you really are? And what are the things you can do? Well, you have come to the right place, the first step of being a student athlete is by knowing your own self, some of you might be great in playing sports, some of you might be good in playing mind games, being a student athlete does not revolve around contact sports such as basketball, volleyball etc. There are also a lot of non-contact sports that can be considered such as board games, dance sports, etc.

Let me introduce myself first, my name is Jeff Danielle I. Gupo, and I am a former student-athlete of Lyceum of the Philippines University – Laguna, in which I played the Center position of the Men’s Basketball Team. I played for the team for 4 years including senior high school, during the span of my 4-year career I can say that it was a good run. I can say that I discovered and gained a lot of experiences, and I am thankful enough to know who I really am and discover what I can really do.

The first thing that you might want to do is have a proper mindset, always think positively, never be afraid to show who you really are and what you can do. Always believe in yourself, you know yourself and you for a fact that you are capable of excelling in the things you often do.

During tryouts, there has been a tough number of competitions, we had different roles and different types of play styles during the time we all started. There had been almost 200 aspiring basketball players who tried out for the team. I personally know that there are only 15 spots for the team roster, therefore I knew that I had to bring out the best in me, due to the high number of aspiring players, we had multiple sessions of tryouts to filter those players who would be chosen for the team. I can say that coaches just didn’t look at the skills of each player, yet they looked for players who have a good and coachable skillset and an amazing display of attitude and discipline.

describe your style as a writer; is it fixed? does it change? there’s some stuff that’s fixed, like dialogue always features super heavily for me because it’s a strength of mine, and i use a lot of em dashes and commas. but otherwise i have def noticed that my style changes somewhat with both the genre of what i’m writing and whatever it is i’m reading at the time lol. like when i write the sonchez fic i had just read a goody romance novel and you can see some stylistic elements of that genre in that fic where you wouldn’t see it in cupid tryouts which is a similar concept

why is writing important to you? it’s a good outlet for me, i have a lot of energy, i can get anxious easily if i’m not actively doing something, so that’s part of it. it’s also something i’m good at, and something that i feel good about doing, it makes my friends happy and it makes me happy because i write stuff i would want to read (and i do read my own fics sometimes too!)

share something with us about an up-and-coming work (WIP) that has you excited! i think the next WIP that’s on the horizon but isn’t the werewolf au (which i feel like i’ve talked too much about) is a soran fic set in hollywood, i’m excited to write them again in a meaningful way that’s not just kind of a little one shot like i did in 2022 and to explore some of the themes i know will pop up in that story

Extended authors' note: Lost Wardens bits from the bins

I saw making the rounds this one post about the secret lore authors have about their own stories/fics, so I feel like sharing some stuff about the longfic/novel that finally crossed that AO3 line to Completed yesterday. Just some behind the scenes stuff, if anyone's so inclined. Big spoiler-y things are after the cut.

Here are some videos of influencer crabber (! — feel like that's something Alex would have enjoyed, lol) Luke McFadden that I watched for some references. I also watched a whole bunch of FV Miss Paula content, and that's where I learned about the crab tagging Alex does with the scientists. Pretty sure I still got some details wrong; feel free to correct me 'cause I ain't no crabber! They use "hawk" to refer to what I called a "marker buoy" in my fic, for instance, but I wanted to avoid confusion with another type of crab trap called a crabhawk.

By happy coincidence, it was actually Stardew Valley's seventh anniversary yesterday. I wasn't aware when I hit post on those last chapters, but I'm very glad. Wouldn't have made any of this without ConcernedApe's own labor of love.

The first chapters of The Lost Wardens went up on AO3 on 03 Nov 21, but I definitely started working on this a lot earlier — 07 June 21, according to the file details in Docs. The original title was A Comparative Study of Southern Ferngill Crab Trap Designs. There were a bunch of attempts to get this going before I finally knew where I wanted to go:

I like to keep a "Bin" file of scraps, scene drafts, notes, etc. that I cut or revise but don't want to delete entirely. Lots of frozen darlings in there, lol. Looks like I finally figured out the direction I wanted to go at the end of August, when my third draft document became the main working one. Wardens Annex was set up just this year only because the main doc got too unwieldy for my phone's memory.

Anyway, I just wanted to write a love story in the style of cheesy TV movies. It was supposed to be about 3-5 chapters long; I thought my Seb fic was kicking off a bunch of these short fluffy pieces about different characters in the Valley.

So, in "Comparative Study", Alex was supposed to get hit by a truck and break his arm right before his big tryout, and as he processed how much this was going to change his life, he was supposed to learn that what he wanted was ✨💖right there all along💖✨. Leslie is surprise pregnant, Alex proposes, the end.

But, as you maybe know by now, another idea crept in, and I started thinking about the not-so-secret magic in the game and the little bits of lore we glean from stuff like that one Lost Book in the Pelican Town library. I liked the idea of a magical ensemble of some kind, too. I've always loved stuff about superpowered/magical teams, so I started to think about what kind of group would make sense in the world of Stardew Valley.

Originally, Rasmodius in crow form was supposed to cause the truck crash in an attempt to keep Alex from leaving the valley and not becoming warden. Jonathan, on the other hand, was all for letting Alex decide his own fate. In the final story, we only hear from Rasmodius in the penultimate chapter, but he figured a lot more in the early drafts, haha.

Digging around in the bins, I see the original group of younger wardens was going to include Abigail on the mountain, Leo in the forest, Jas with magic, and Vincent for memory. I wanted to end with Alex now in the role of mentor, as Jonathan had been to him. But as I got into Abigail's hidden ancestry and thought about Leo being raised by Linus, I felt that putting Abby on the mountain didn't really make sense. (She can still have a sword if she wants, though.)

The next group of younger wardens I had in mind was Alex, Leslie, Sebastian, Abigail, and Leah (forest). I also had ideas of Leah/Sebastian going on in the background. That didn't pan out once I decided to drop Leah from the group (sorry, Leah fans).

Anyway, I'd written about seven chapters out of these beginnings and then decided that the stakes didn't feel big enough. Alex's choice didn't feel like a real one. What was going to stop Alex from ultimately getting over what Rasmodius did and choosing to be warden, when it was basically the only good opportunity in front of him? I realized that the crash couldn't happen, and it was starting to feel too melodramatic for me, anyway. Gridball had to be back on the table. I had to start again.

Wardens of Magic, Go!

I am not kidding about the magical ensemble thing. I had them associated with different weapons and bird avatars but decided the weapons weren't really going to come into play.

Cathy - forest - horned owl

In the early versions, Jonathan was a more benign figure who simply encouraged Alex to make his own choices. He even supported Alex and Leslie's relationship; he just wanted to make sure Alex could freely decide what was best for Alex.

But as the story shifted, I started to feel Jonathan needed more to do. I thought more about what would drive Jonathan's interest in Alex's life. I hit upon the idea that it should be Jonathan, not Rasmodius, who is responsible for Alex's troubles. Next to Cathy, Jonathan was the most hurt by Raul and Joanna. So, who was he, really? And how far was he willing to go to keep Alex from going through what he did?

It was also probably around that time that I stopped calling him Samuel and his boat the Amaranth, lol. I was still kind of fresh from a Dishonored kick and wanted to maintain a connection. But as Alex's skipper became more his own character, he and his boat needed their own names.

I'd always planned for him to be the old mariner, and a good number of people guessed that early on. The thing is, though, the old mariner is a spirit. Jonathan was not yet a spirit, and he had stuff to do before that happened.

As a consequence of these changes, Alex spent a lot of the fic avoiding Jonathan and being mad at him. I realized that maybe too late; it became a problem when I had to write the final chapters. I started to worry that I'd only told people how much of a father figure Jonathan had been to this boy; maybe I hadn't shown it enough. The first drafts had more scenes of the two of them working together, joking around, having heart-to-hearts, etc. — stuff, I feel, would have strengthened the impact of Alex's conflicting feelings about the skipper once he found out the truth. This was the main reason for the flashback in Ch. 25; I hope it worked.

As for the big challenge showdown that never was, Rattle said something somewhere about how there doesn't always have to be a big fight with the "villain"; sometimes the villain turns out to be not bad at all, and sometimes the real villain is just trauma or indecision or life. Jonathan is sometimes an antagonist, but I never really saw him as a villain, just as someone who made questionable decisions in the name of protecting someone vulnerable and young. I wanted Alex's future to always end up in his own hands and for his heart to lead him there.

Cathy

I had also planned to write something to fill in the gaps about Cathy's life. We would actually see the "movie" in Ch. 24. Maybe Alex deciding last-minute that he didn't need to see it was a cop-out, but I just decided I didn't want to write this part anymore. Maybe it would've been too much of a detour from his own story, and I was already setting up a lot of pins to knock down as it was.

So, for those who're wondering, Cathy and Joanna had always been competitive. They were both cunning and charming, but Joanna was older and prettier and definitely got more attention. Cathy was open to Raul's advances, partly because the young wizard could get it, and partly because it would get one up over her sister. Soap operatic, maybe, but also human, maybe.

The reason for her "academic drift" away from forestry and her ending up at Fish and Wildlife after the big blow-up is Jonathan. His stepping in to shield her from Joanna left a faint magical imprint or echo, and part of the "drift" was driven by her own subconscious reaching for something familiar.

A while back IRL, there was a bunch of news stories about spies being outed, and for some reason they were all professors. My SO (works with some international academics) reasoned that it was because they can come into contact with and influence powerful people under the guise of advising and research. I entertained ideas of some intelligence agency using Cathy's memory problems, conference trips, and government ties to cover up the smuggling of documents and data. She could even be aware of it; she was cold enough when it came to JojaFish. But, as I'd already decided not to fully write out her story, I didn't develop these ideas more.

This might also be a good place to mention that I'd thought of having the war with Gotoro be one of the ripple/butterfly effects of the older Circle breaking apart. But I abandoned that idea, too.

Mr. Qi and Sandy

I love them. I hoped to get into their backstory at some point, but I never did work it in. Mostly because I was a coward and didn't want to get hate about their age difference.

Sandy was one of Joanna's first doves. Qi found her and kept her for a while, out of curiosity. As he grew attached and then concerned about how brief doves' lifespans are, he asked Joanna to un-dove the kid, and then he placed her with some business associates who were having trouble adopting. He barely saw her after that; he was too busy with growing his empire and was content to be a distant godfather who sent birthday and Winter Star presents.

When Sandy, strangely drawn to the desert and the Oasis, came looking for a job, Qi recognized her as his successor. He trained her in all the ways of hotel/hospitality management, and in magic. They developed an excellent collegial friendship. Qi suspected he might have even stronger feelings but kept them to himself, told himself to focus on business. He was about twice her age and blue; it wasn't gonna happen.

Even if he had (has) no plans of dying at a normal time, he decided to bring up his succession plans to Sandy at some point. She was the one who said it would be more fun if they got married.

Calendar math

This fic received the most planning I've ever put into a fic. You might have seen my map and notes on geography. I also downloaded a blank calendar and worked out where some dates would land if each season lasted three months instead of one. Here's a glimpse:

I also read up on fetal development and pregnancy in case anything Leslie was experiencing might be good to mention. Admittedly, I could have done that more. But after Alex went to training camp, he was around her less, and I also just focused on him more.

Personal/other writerly stuff

As you can maybe tell, I really love the sea. I think working on this fic helped me reacquaint myself with that love. There's so much focus on farming and the farmer in a lot of SDV fan work, but I really enjoyed digging into the fact that Pelican Town is a seaside town — and in the process, I got to think about all the things I loved about growing up close to the sea myself.

I know I also resorted to a lot of figures of speech related to music. Maybe they're crutches for me at this point, but explaining things the way I'd describe music or moving through water or water moving (plus weather, especially storms) is maybe the best way I know how to verbalize the thought or feeling I want in the story. Under the ecliptic zodiac, I'm an earth sign, and under the Chinese zodiac, my element is fire. But water and being in or close to the water gives me a sense of equilibrium and clarity; maybe it's a balancing thing (says the person who also says she doesn't believe in astrology). Outside of the water, the next thing that gives me that is music.

This fic also saw me processing some personal stuff about life stages and getting to move forward to the next one. Alex and Leslie's happy ending/beginning is a bit of wish fulfillment for me. They channel magic through their work, which means they will still go through all the mundanity and struggle of farming/crabbing/fishing, but they will have a home together at the end of every day. I am working toward the quiet magic of love in my everyday, too.

I have some ideas for the next thing I want to write, but they need to simmer a bit. In the meantime, I'll go back to actually reading fics and seeing what else other people are writing (I try to avoid the AO3 feed during a big WIP to prevent idea osmosis).

Hello, P’Sarah! I’m the anon who sent you an ask a bit ago saying you convinced me to watch You’re My Sky, and after you invited me so indulgently to share my thoughts, here I am to do just that. I’m already so, so sorry for how long this is going to get because, boy, do I have thoughts. (Feel free to not finish reading this, I’m basically just babbling.)

In short: it was as good as you promised, even better. I absolutely loved it and ate it up—how well-executed Thorn and Fah’s friends-to-lovers storyline was, all the interesting things it had to say, the deeply human characters that get so much development (I am reminded a lot of ITSAY, which makes sense), the plot overall, the game scenes lacking any and all extras at all times (which didn’t stop the editors from throwing in audios of crowds cheering), the beautiful atmosphere created by using the best music, the cinematography that sometimes legitimately took my breath away, EVERYTHING.

I love love love when a show makes its characters feel real and complex. Like how I figured Coach Tuan would be the typical flat antagonist, but then we gained so much insight into him and his whole (slightly antisocial) approach in ep 11. Like how Vee’s jie could have been the typical BL girl just there as an annoying cardboard cut-out of a stand-in love interest, but despite the little screen time, she never felt like that. Like how I was so scared Thorn’s “I’ll follow you anywhere, P’Fah” in the beginning would become Thorn’s defining character trait for the rest of the series and make him static and dependent on Fah, but then they completely turned it around by the end.

Ep 11 hurt me so much, because the storytelling was so good and I felt so much as Thorn became this cynical asshole and so, so desperate to succeed, only to figure out what had become of him and his friendships, and Fah caught him and just held him and helped him out of the hole he had dug for himself. That episode almost destroyed me. An ep 11 doom conflict so well executed. And then, in the scene after, with Fah hugging Thorn on the court after the game, how sweet and adorable they got with each other again.

Fah and Thorn were ALWAYS so ridiculously cute with each other. I think one of my favorite scenes in the whole show was the one where they’re all having a sleepover before the next game and Thorn slips into bed with Fah and convinces him to go to the tryouts, and they kiss and the rest of the team just smile knowingly while pretending to sleep (because they know exactly the only person that can convince Fah to go is Thorn, and they wanted to give them the space). The only thing that disappointed me a bit was how little they kissed and how much the camera panned out in their scenes, because they had the chemistry for it, and the few kisses they had weren’t that bad.

Dome and Vee also had me screaming and crying and yearning (Sean and Aii were good too, but D&V were even better). The chemistry!! The sister’s-boyfriend-trope!! I also really appreciated the open ending with them (even though I was a little bitter initially), because Thai BLs tend to always find a way to magically solve all problems by the end of the series, and this approach was so much closer to reality. Vee needed the time to figure things out, and at least they didn’t go for one of those greatly frustrating time skips.

So yeah, definitely a fantastic show, thank you for sharing it! It made me very emotional at times, both because of the remarkable storytelling and because they hit some really emotional topics for me personally. I'm so glad you enjoyed You're My Sky! I always get worried when I recommend shows, but I loved this one so much. The writing was what truly blew me away. Like you said, every character and every relationship had so much nuance and the episode 11 conflict was well-executed. The scene where Fah and Thorn's teammates are all pretending to be asleep was definitely my favorite as well. It was such a beautiful moment and I absolutely loved it. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside just thinking about it.

I agree that there should have been more kissing, but that's pretty much my stance on every show ever 😂 For a Thai BL released in early 2022, I was just happy there was kissing and even fade-to-black sex scenes. But yeah, such a waste of good chemistry. They should have cast Fah's actor as Suar's partner on La Pluie. Like come on!

I also wonder if the production company might have been setting up a possible sequel for Dome and Vee, which was never realized? But yeah, I'd watch the hell out of that. They were by far my favorite couple in the series and Vee's relationship with his sister made me cry. She was such a good big sister. She tried so hard to make them both happy.
