I'm a fandom old, so I'd also say there's a strand of entitlement that's always been around fandom, but it's so much more normal now (for both artists and writers) since fandom's become less of a haven for weirdos and more mainstream. Fan writers and artists create FOR FREE and share with us, so complaining or being an arsehole about it is frankly shit.

YEAH....... ive been in online fandoms for like a decade now myself so 😭

if i were to guess id say its probably because nowadays people grow up online and have their whole identities and social circles online too, and its usually very young people who act this entitled towards creatives. it seems a majority of them believe that what you consume and how you consume it reflects your character because theyve made what they consume such a heavy feature of their identity but thats just. not true? you cannot get an accurate understanding of another person based solely off you stalking their page. it sucks too because young people tend to be more reactionary and react based off emotion so their judgement will be even further clouded. not to mention since theyre so judgmental of anyone who disagrees with this they end up forming an echo chamber which just. oh man.

alot of the arguments i see can basically be reduced to "this makes me uncomfortable so that means its immoral and should be eradicated" and thats just. a Really bad mindset to have..... if you cant handle certain things youre much better off muting/blocking and curating your online experience appropriately. this isnt the real world after all, our creative art and writing does not involve reality, its often an escape from it. it is not us creatives responsibility to ensure your online experience is full of sunshine and rainbows. most you can criticize us for is if we tagged the posts appropriately. and then making sure those tags are muted is YOUR responsibility. please take care of yourselves. we dont want you hurting, but we are our own individuals with our own life stories and we should be allowed to express those

the internet will never be a safe haven for everyone. what you may deem immoral might be another persons way of expressing emotions that are killing them inside, and i think thats the beauty of art. it is a purely subjective medium that can mean something completely different depending on the person viewing it. like fuck man theres so many things i find deeply upsetting so i just do my best in blocking it out of my sight. am i still gonna stumble upon those upsetting things in the wild? of COURSE i am, especially since some of what i find upsetting may not be that big of a deal to a majority of the population, and thats unfortunately the reality we have to live with. all we can really do is ask those close to us to be mindful and choose who we engage with carefully

october writing prompt #4 - “at what cost?”

"You know, shrimpy, I could take reeeal good care of ya."

Floyd talks like he's discussing the weather - casual and carefree, that usual drawling tone of his almost making you miss what he says entirely. Before you can say anything, he smirks at you, sharp teeth poking out.

Immediately, any attempt at questioning him dies in your mouth. His eyes are predatory and intelligent, in a way he usually doesn't display. There's something... more to this.

"You're just so squeezable, y'know? I'm sure ya need someone like me around, don'tchya?"

He swings an arm over your shoulder, pulling you into his side as his grin grows. Your dumbfounded look does nothing to deter him - if anything, he looks pleased to have caught you off-guard. That dangerous look of his fades a little, if only barely, replaced by a twisted affection.

"...And at what cost would that be, huh?"

The eel's entire demeanor flips on it's back - he's scowling with furrowed brows, his hold on you just a little bit too tight. If you didn't know better, you'd say that he was offended by the accusation.

"You think that little of me?"

There's an undercurrent to his pouty voice, something that you can't quite put your finger on. You land on somewhere between distraught and heartbroken, but that wouldn't make any sense, would it? Why would Floyd be so wounded by you playing off what was clearly not meant seriously. This was just another one of his jokes to see how you react, you were sure of it.

His expression takes another sudden shift, and you're left fumbling trying to keep up and wrap your head around his behavior.

"Azul is the one that makes the deals, shrimpy, not me." He huffs, pulling away from you only to grab you by the shoulders and make you look directly at him as he seems to... scold you? "You gotta pay more attention to me! Who else is gonna take care of a little shrimp like you, huh?"

The sing-song of his voice is almost enough to distract you from the sharp glint of his teeth and the look in his eyes as he whines and jumps around different topics, never giving you a moment to truly catch up. Or enough time to think about what he might be scheming when he shares a meaningful look with Jade when the two of you pass him in the hallway.

Really, Floyd was just so strange. You didn't think you would ever be able to understand him.

had a drean last night that MCR announced a one night only show in canada. I somehow managed to wander backstage and everyone just sorta let me...stay there for some reason? and i was vaguely stressed the whole time i was gonna get thrown out. Anyway the show started and anthony green was there and him and gerard were in matching outfits except the shirts were i think yellow for gerard and....green on anthony? lol. Anyways so the shows starting and theres a bunch of guest stars hanging around and everyones like woahhh wonder whats happening and gerards like we got some crazy things planned for you and theybstart playing the opening to kids from yesterday but then everything suddenly stops and in the back of the theater (its a stage btw like a broadway theater) a giant screen starts playing music videos from a random band. So it turns out the whole show was essentially a prank from gerard to get an excuse to promote local small canadian bands and artists he enjoys. Between every extended music video/weird short film he brings out another guest and imply theyre gonna start playing songs now before just starting a new video and giggling to themselves. The crowd was confused and vaguely annoyed but stuck around to watch the videos bc its gerard we love that guy. I kept accidentally wandering onstage and would do weird shit to fit in w the weird vibes but i realized nobody really noticed me so i eventually left and hung out in the green room. That was my MCR dream. I miss gerard.
