Rewatching “Crimson Peak”
Discussing this movie on the Gotham group chat with @ckatattack and decided “Eff it, Imma watch it again.”
Lez go!
“Rent movie for $3.99″ absolutely
Holy crap, I forgot about this opening lullaby during the logo.  Holy shit.
For some reason, the bloody Edith in the opening shot really looks like something the girl behind MadeYewLook should do.  Other Alexis, hear me out!
These colors (in young Edith’s bedroom)!
*flinches when the first ghost puts her hand on Young Edith’s shoulder*
You ever had someone put their hand on your shoulder when you’re like seconds away from falling asleep?  Scariest shit ever.
*silently jams out to the music when Edith is traveling to the publisher*
I freaking LOVE Edith’s yellow dress in this movie.  The puffy shoulders, the black under dress, the straw hat, love it.
“Actually, Mrs. McMichael, I would prefer Mary Shelley.  She died a widow.”  *z snaps*
“The ghost is just a metaphor.  For the past.”  Boom there’s the whole movie.
“He told me it needed a love story.  Can you believe that?”  AGAIN-
Also holy shit, Bobby from Supernatural is Edith’s dad!
For a second, I thought this typing house looked like a science fair.
AND THERE HE [Tom HIddleston] ISSSS!!
I’m sorry, I’m just smiling... so hard at this [Edith and Thomas’s first scene together]
Listen, if we get a scene in the Loki TV show where we see him in an outfit very close to the one he wears in this movie, I will... die.  That’s it.  I’ll just die.
The aesthetics for most of Guillermo del Toro’s movies are wonderful.  The like 95% period accurate clothing, the yellow lighting, the red and green wallpapers OH MY GOD I JUST NOTICED THE RED AND GREEN
*The door knob starts creaking*  Oh boy
That shot of Edith’s face in half shadow when she’s about ready to close the door but she sees the ghost of her mother?  Good stuff.
*Thomas waits near the staircase*  OH SNAP HE LOOK GOOD
OHHHHHHH THAT TRANSITIONNNNN [from the staircase to the ballroom]!!
I also love the detail that Lucille’s dress is ten years too old for her because she is still stuck in the past when it comes to life.
*grins like an idiot when Thomas offers the candle to Edith*
There are so many people gasping in this scene
I wonder if they actually did try to do the waltz with the actual candle lit for filming or did they do some VFX to make it look like it was lit the whole time?  Part of me thinks that that flame’s real but I don’t know.
Where have I seen the guy who plays the investigator before?
“The man that just left, among other ailments, is colorblind....only the majority around him does.  Now that man will never perceive the colors red or green.  He only accepts their existence because the majority around him does.”  “Perhaps we only notice things when the time comes for us to see them.”  OH MY GOD ALL THE RED AND GREEN IN EDITH’S HOME
Charlie Hunnam’s Britsh accent slipped in when he said “understand”
Also I want this man to play Green Arrow in the DCEU
Did she [Lucille] just rub the dead butterfly on her face?
*Close of ants feeding on dead butterfly*  Thanks, that was needed.
*Thomas reveals the ring he was going to give Edith*  BOY YOU KNEW HER FOR LIKE A THREE DAYS AND A NIGHT
Were those all the previous marriage certificates?
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have an unexpected announcement.  Sir Thomas?”  *sinks down in seat and hisses nervously*
*is extremely uncomfortable when Thomas has to insult Edith’s novel in front of her*
*Edith slaps Thomas*  Well he took that pretty well.
*Lucille in the doorway of the dining room*  You know what, eff you.
*jaw drops in horror when someone smashes Mr. Cushing’s face in the sink repeatedly, killing him*
I love that Edith is still in her nightgown and she still has bed head (of a sorts) and yet she ran to the hotel, just throwing on a coat and leaving her reading glasses on.
*slams hands on laptop*  THESE.  TRANSITIONS.
I FORGOT ABOUT THE PUPPER!
BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH THE GREEN WALLPAPER, SET DESIGNERS!
I’m sorry, was that a slight kiss mark on Edith’s chin?  Did I see that right?
Boy, you be hugging your sister for way too long...
*Lucille refuses to give Edith a copy of the keys*  Electric chair.
“You chose her.  Why?”  BECAUSE HE LOVES HER YOU BITCH
*One of the ghosts sneaks up on Edith in the bathroom*  We see you, @actordougjones!!  I see you!!
*Thomas loudly stirs Edith’s tea for her*  I’m suddenly flashing back to the tea cup from “Get Out”
So would the Sunken Place for this scenario just be completely red from the red clay?  Thoughts to think about.
Wait, how long is Mia Wasikowska’s hair?  Is that all real?  Jeez!  The last time I had hair down to my butt was in elementary school.
“Mother.”  Oo woo oo...
Look, I’ve already seen this movie, but I already want Lucille to shut the hell up.
I’m sorry, was that a porn book Lucille just showed Edith?
Well damn they replaced that sink real quick!
*Thomas watches Edith as she watches one of his contraptions*  S T O P
Mr. del Toro, you have been reading my list of favorite romantic tropes.  Sir please-
*Edith and Thomas kiss passionately*  OH... OHH...
*gestures in the air with frustration when Lucille enters the room*
GO AWAY
Can we start taking shots every time Edith starts wandering around the halls in her nightgown holding a candelabra in this movie?
GREEEEEENNNNNN...
*One of the ghosts starts crawling on the floor, moaning and wailing*  Haha me
*to the tune of “Sugar We’re Going Down”*  WE’RE GOING DOWN DOWN INTO THE RED CLAY BASEMENT!  EDITH WE’RE GOING DOWN-
“My hands are getting rough.  Your father would approve.”  Why would I just realize that?  Man, I’m getting slow.
The last time I watched this movie was in 2016.  I watched the trailer back when I was a senior in high school.  And I watched that trailer multiple times.
I love the ghost as the scarecrow
Girl, you are coughing up blood.  You have been poisoned.
Edith back at it again wandering around at night!  Take a shot!
This was a terrible decision for me to watch this at like midnight.  Why did I do this?
OK, so which one of these ghosts is Javier Botet?
Oh my gosh, the chair Edith is in is bigger than last time because she’s being swallowed by the house.
AND ANOTHER TRANSITION!
“Sir Thomas is already married.”  BUM BUM BUMMM!!
*has to look away as Thomas and Edith get it on*
Aaand there’s the English countryside right there.  I’m gonna look back away now.
“Lucille, we’re back!”  Lucille, you son of a bitch.
“You slept there?  You two... alone...”  Yeah, that’s what husband and wife do.  They get together, sleep together, do a lot of things together.  Jesus.
“I was so alone.  I can’t be alone.”  Lady, I just want you to shut the hell up.
OK, so now I forget what’s in the ES suitcase?  Enola’s body?  What’s up?
Oh, it’s just a suitcase full of other stuff.  Never mind.  I thought it was gonna be her body.
Lemme guess the ghost is gonna rise out of the red goo?  Yep!
I’m getting a lot of callbacks to “The Shining” like with all the red and then the ghost with the ax in her head climbing out of the tub
Jessica Chastain’s accent keeps slipping.  Am I the only one who’s noticed?
*laughing*  Oh my God, again!  Take a shot!
Oh my God they freaking swindled a lady in a wheelchair.  Ohhhh my God...
WAIT I FORGOT THAT WAS ENOLA’S DOG!
“The poison... is in the tea!”  Funnnnnnnnn....
Oh but of course she got snowed in.
“I [Lucille] tended Mother in this bed.”  *so done*
STOP EFFING... SCRAPING THE TEA CUP GODDAMN
STOP IT
So is Lucille the older sibling?  Oh yeah she is because she said she tended to their mom
*completely done with Lucille’s BS*
Whoever did the set design for Allerdale Hall, I want to send them flowers and my love
OK I know for a fact that that’s Doug Jones as the ghost of Enola
WAIT I FORGOT ABOUT THIS SHIT
*quickly rips out earphones*
*cue a very long string of expletives and looking up and away from the screen*
EXCUSE ME HER [expletive] BACK IS BROKEN!  SHE HAS LOST THE WILL TO WALK!
*singing* ALAAANNNN THE UNSUNG HE-ROOOOOO!!!
LUCILLE I WANT YOU *laughing* TO SHUT THE HELL UP
*gasps*  WAIT SHE TOOK THE RING BACK FROM EDITH!
“I’m [Alan] here to take you [Edith] away.”  *singing*  They’re going to take me away, a ha, they’re going to take me away!
Wait he’s a doctor and he just yanks that sucker out of his arm pit?  You’d think he’d be smarter than that.
OH MY GOD THEY KILLED THE DOG
*shakes head at the whole fiasco*
*ends up glaring at Lucille as she tosses Edith’s manuscript in the fire*
Edith, while she’s looking away, just freaking tear that... *mimes tearing motion*
Oh my God of course she [Lucille] has a drawer full of the victim’s hairs
“You told me you loved me!”  “I do!”  AGH
*Thomas throws the law papers in the fire*  YAASSSS!!
*gasps when Lucille stabs Thomas*
*jaw drops in horror when Thomas just shanked IN THE FACE*
GOD AND YOU CAN HEAR THE BONE-
*Thomas dies*  Jeeesus... that was a good death scene.
God the shot of Lucille running down the stairs from behind?  Ugh!  And with the flowing fabric behind her!  Freaking gorgeous
*Edith goes down in the elevator*  Bye bish
That is a huge freaking meat cleaver
Seeing Edith with her steak knife going up against Lucille reminds me of that freaking chainsaw fight from “Mandy” with Nicholas Cage
This final set piece!
*Edith goes up against Lucille with a shovel*  MY NAME IS INIGO MONTOYA!  YOU KILLED MY FATHER!  PREPARE TO DIE!
*Ghost Thomas*  Those prosthetics look amazing
*Ghost Thomas nuzzles against Edith’s hand before disappearing*  God it’s the little movements.  del Toro freaking GETS it
*nods when the end credits start*

Finding Fire Chapter 9
This is how the fight started
Cheryl came out of her room while I was setting down our breakfast on the table. She glissfully sits down on the table wearing my black pants the one I wore at the drag race, with a simple jean jacket with a black tank top underneath. "You almost ready to go T.T.?" I was cleaning the dishes I cooked with, scrubbing them down when I hollered back, "actually I'm going to Pop's for another meeting so Fangs and Sweetpea are taking you to Greendale today," when I literally hear Cheryl's neck snap up. "What do you mean you're not taking me?" I sigh into the dishes knowing this wasn't going to end well. I scrub harder this time, "Ponytail thinks she has a new lead on Alice thinking she's the black hood, after all he's still out there and that means we're not exactly in the clear. Not to mention this mess with Hiram and wondering why he's messing with you all the sudden, with your mom popping up." I would hope that would get her to calm down but indeed knowing Cheryl, "Well all the more reason for you to take me not those two bafoons," I grit my teeth trying not to snap but I can feel it coming through, "Those bafoons have been helping you, us for over a month now they can do it." I can hear her scoff and say, "I didn't ask them too," from the look on her face from my side view I can tell she didn't mean it but she needed to win and me being the same way I went to far, "Well I didn't ask you to be annoyingly clingy but here we are." I can hear her gasp and that's when I realized what I had said. I drop the dishes quickly and turn around quickly, "Cheryl I didn't mean-" but it was to late Cheryl had stood up trying to hide the tears in her eyes, "I see. I didn't know," she said. I shut my eyes hoping we could calm down and go back ten seconds, "Cheryl plea-" but she shakes her head ready to walk out, "Sweetpea should be here I'll see you later." She had walked out the door I had fucked up.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
"Toni what do you think?" Jughead had asked not that I heard him the first three times until Veronica had bumped my arm to stop me from looking out the window. "What?," Jughead shakes his head, "I said Alice had despised the Blossoms not to mention the will reading recently and she wasn't around when the killings happen? The will reading and Polly are both motive right there," I just shrug my shoulders, honestly I have no interest in the black hood I'm more worried about the Ghoulie war that had been declared when they took me for hostage about a month ago. They started up again and doesn't look like they're going away. "No offense guys but sitting here once a week isn't doing anything if anything we should just split up and do our own research and just send out a text if we find something good." They had stared at me like I had a second head. "Look the Ghoulies are picking us Serpents out one by one and the Black Hood is taking out sinners one by one. I can't just sit here wondering when we need to be out there doing something. Maybe not as crazy as admitting to a potential Black Hood about breaking into his motel room but something."
Betty shakes her head, "you just can't give me a break can you," I shake my head in anger. Veronica steps in as always trying to be peace maker, "Toni's right the election is tomorrow night I need to be there for my mom hoping my father is not trying to get her killed. Are we all sitting together at town hall?" Everyone nods in agreement.
I had come home expecting Cheryl to be around but she was not. I call Sweetpea and he answers, "Sup Tiny?" I ignore the nickname for once, "Cheryl with you?" There was silence. "I thought you decided to take her?" My blood runs cold, "Sweetpea I told you I had a meeting you were supposed to take her!" Sweetpea starts to freak out in retort, "Well I came to the house neither of you were home! I figured you changed your mind!" I hung up on him and throw my phone against the wall in anger luckily as I found out not breaking it. Where the fuck is she? I understand she's mad but with Ghoulies and the Black Hood out there it isn't safe to throw a fit and run off right now. I try calling her but to no avail.
I didn't see her until Vixen practice and she did not look pleased. How do I know that? Well....
"You need to tell your girlfriend to chill out what's her problem today?" Veronica pants out after the 20th lap around the gym. I shrug my shoulders in response due to me being out of breathe and also I'm a very private person in general.
"Enough running your mouths and more running those thunder thighs Lodge!" Cheryl screams out. So yeah my girlfriend isn't pleased. Hopefully I can catch her after practice.
It didn't happen. In fact Cheryl slips in late in the night making a bed for her on the couch.
I didn't really end up seeing her until the election the next night.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I sit down with everyone looking around and I see Cheryl sitting with Josie a few rows up. Even though she got over Josie awhile ago, I can't help but feel jealous I try to get her attention but she ignores me on purpose. "Why isn't Cheryl sitting with us?" Veronica whispers. I just shake my head it's to private and I'm not much of an venter anyway that's more Cheryl which I'm sure she's doing with Josie right now.
The election soon begins and the lights go down as Archie's dad and Veronica's mom comes out. I can't really remember their names but I will say it's pretty bold of Archie's dad to still come out to do this despite his son sitting in jail pending murder. I see Hiram on the side in the shadows and my blood boils, I see him looking around keeping a longer glance on Cheryl. As his wife goes to reubtle something Archie's dad had said, the lights go out completely for a few and people scream. But when the lights turn back on my blood runs cold. In the front in the back of the two candidates is no other than Midge hanging by her neck with the words "City of Sinners" written in blood. I hear Cheryl scream, "Someone help her!," but before anyone could move shooting comes out from above us. I look up at this crazy laugh to see the Ghoulies come out with guns and other toys, "WE'RE BACK!" one of the leaders start to sing as everyone runs in terror. I see Cheryl disappear as I scream for her on the top of my lungs.
In ten seconds everything goes wrong, somehow I'm close to the exit being pushed but I'm so small I somehow make it out but still no sign of Cheryl. I scream her name over and over I don't care about the pain my throat will receive later I just want my baby back.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
When I had screamed out for someone to help Midge I was already going to stand when I heard shots and someone with a deep voice scream. I get to the exit before anyone and slip out. All I could think about was my bow and arrow. I believe I saw the glimpse of the Ghoulies if that be true I need to get back to the trailer to defend the park from them. I start running to the park as I hear more screaming from the building behind me. I felt awful having to leave Toni but there was no time, no point. I would lose her and we'd both me armless.
I finally make it home and onto the trailer top as I see some of the Ghoulie mob enter the park. One of them spots me in my red arrow costume and they give me this gross smirk. Worse than Nick St. Clair even.
"Hey princess why don't you come down and join our little party?" I scoff in disgust. "Not gonna happen wanna be Jack Sparrow." He snarls back in anger taking a closer look at me. It just so happens the stupid wind gushes by and my hood pops down a little exposing my hair a bit more. "Hey wait a second" pirate boy squints, "you're the one who saved that pink headed bitch a few weeks back," he grins in response, "oh we're going to have fun with you." I can't help but shoot an arrow down into his right arm that's holding the bone knife as he drops it. He screams in agony and falls to his knees looking up grimacing, "You're gonna pay for that bitch." I need to keep my arrows in check and play bodyguard till the rest of the serpeants get here. Toni. I hope she's okay I didn't want to leave her, angry or not I love her. Seconds later I see motorcycles pull in and black jackets. All the Ghoulies rush over. The serpents awhile back had said something about the Ghoulies wanting this territory if that be true I should grab a few things just in case, as I slip back into the trailer.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Unfortunately I wasn't one of the few lucky ones to head back to the trailer park to go defend off the Ghoulies, I'm scared that's my home they want for whatever reason. That's the place Cheryl knows to go back to and what if they have her or hurt her? I had to stay at City Hall due to the colored circle bulldog bullshit that decided to turn on the serpents on top of the Ghoulies. There's only so many of us and so many supplies. Not to mention I'm still worried about Cheryl, where is she? Is she okay? Me and a few others are about to get into a full on collision with a few of the bull dogs, I close my eyes and think. Serpents always come first before anything, I open back up my eyes and head into the fight.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
After getting out of the trailer by how the fight was going I knew I couldn't stay there it wasn't safe. They might not know I'm a girlfriend of a serpent but they know enough and I'm on Jack Sparrow's hit list. I hop on to a random motorcycle and take a few tries before I get it to start as I take off to the one place I need to be. On my way there I take out my phone and make a call,
"Cheryl?"
"Cousin Betty"
"Cheryl where are you? Are you okay? Are you hur-"
"No time for that, listen I don't know how yet but Hiram is behind these attacks all of it! Archie, Black Hood, Hell even the Ghoulies tonight. They want the one piece of land they couldn't buy, why not take out the serpents to get it?"
"Cheryl are you sure? It's kind of far fet-"
"You wanna be Pretty Little Liars have been having secret meetings at Pop's and got squat, trust me when I say I know my way.
"Okay"
"Oh, and Betty?"
"Yeah?"
I take a quick turn onto a dirt road.
"Tell Toni I'm sorry."
Before she could respond I flip the phone shut and keep going down the dirt road.
Toni
---------------------------------------------------------------
I can feel blood running down my face as I'm on my knees with one of my ears ringing as we fight to defend off the black circle. The fight isn't heading into our direction so far, with Archie out of the way the Red nazi circle has turned more dark. "Sorry Pinky it's not personal but we're getting paid to do this and money is what makes the world go around." I laugh back bitterly spitting out blood below me, "Wow Captain I didn't even know you knew that the Earth rotated," as Reggie goes to pull up his fist to strike one more good one on me this is my end I'm done. Cheryl. I close my eyes but after a few moments nothing came. I open my eyes and see Reggie lying on the ground with Betty holding a bat. "Toni," "don't" I shake my head. "Cheryl told me Hiram is behind all this," I instantly perk my head up, "Cheryl?! Where is she?" Betty shakes her head. "She called and-" "Called?! Is she okay?" Betty stares me at startled, "she wouldn't tell me where she was but Toni," "What!?" I glare back at her standing up wiping blood of my face, "she wanted me to tell you she was sorry." I shake my head trying to process Cheryl being okay, but my heart sinks, "sorry? Sorry for what?" Flashbacks of Hiram coming out of the therapists office flashes my mind.

Can I request sweet pea x reader where somehow the reader gets hurt and he freaks out (either he is told about her gettin hurt or see’s her getting hurt?)
Okay, here is my attempt! Sorry if it wasn’t quite what you wanted. Feel free to leave feedback in the comments or in a message.Words: 3,774Warning: some swearing, shooting
I took a swig of my beer as I leaned against the wall. My boyfriend Sweet Pea was engaged in a very competitive game of pool with his best friend, Fangs. I loved watching the two of them interact when they were both trying their hardest to win.
Tumblr media
Sweet Pea was holding onto a narrow lead, but Fangs was pushing right back. Their particular style of trash talk was incredibly sharp and funny. Other patrons of the Whyte Wyrm had been watching the game since it began as well.
Sweet Pea missed a shot and the small crowd let out a loud ooooooo. Fangs smirked and proceeded to clean up the table. Just before his final shot, he blew a kiss to Sweet Pea mockingly. Fangs officially won, and the bar erupted. Bets were settled amid groans and whoops.
Sweet Pea punched Fangs in the arm while he was performing some elaborate victory bow. I could see the amusement in his eyes as he turned and instantly found me in the crowd. I raised my eyebrows at him and stuck out my tongue. Sweet Pea glared and bounded across the bar, dodging the good-natured ribbing from his friends.
“Well, hello there,” I said with a smile. “I usually only talk to pool champions but I guess you seem cool enough.”
Sweet Pea growled at me and grabbed my hips with his huge hands. There was a glimmer of amusement in his dark brown eyes. The deep chocolate color wrapped me in warmth and I could feel the familiar sensation of falling into their depths. His gorgeous shiny black tresses were tumbling across his forehead. I reached out and ran my fingers through the hair falling into his face.
“Do you want to know why I lost?”
I pretended to think about it. “Was it because Fangs was better than you?”
Sweet Pea leaned down to me and shook his head. He whispered into my ear, his warm breath whispering across my cheek, “I saw how hot you looked over here, leaning against the wall like some kind of model, and I missed my last shot thinking about what I’d like to do to your body.”
I gasped, pushing against his chest in pretend outrage. “Why, I never! You scoundrel!”
I dissolved into a fit of giggles. Sweet Pea leaned down and captured my lips with his. When he pulled back after a glorious moment, I wrapped my hands around the back of his neck.
“You looked pretty hot yourself. I love seeing you bent over the pool table.” I wiggled my eyebrows at him outrageously.
He laughed, showering my face with little kisses. Based on his reputation, many people were surprised to see how ready Sweet Pea was to publically display his affection. I personally felt like he just couldn’t control himself sometimes. I know that I definitely couldn’t when I was around him. Of course, there was also the occasional time that he would feel the need to show everyone that I was all his.
I heard a snicker from behind us. We turned to see Fangs smirking at us.
“Looks like poor little Sweet Pea needs to be comforted ‘cause he lost so bad.” Fangs took a long drag from his drink.
“Shove it, Fangs,” I said with loving smile, gently punching Fangs in the shoulder.
Sweet Pea leaned his elbow on Fangs’ shoulder, pressing down on the shorter boy with most of his weight. “Sure, bud, just tell yourself that I lost ‘so bad’. I don’t think that you can count a single crappy shot towards the end of the game as a crushing defeat.”
Fangs laughed, trying to fight his way out from under Sweet Pea’s arm. While they bickered and pushed each other, I watched them with a smile. I loved these two boys, each in different ways, but I had grown up with them and I couldn’t imagine a world in which they weren’t best friends.
Suddenly I felt my phone buzzing in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw that Betty Cooper was calling. We had met through our boyfriends; she was dating Jughead Jones, and when he finally joined the Serpents, she started to get to know some of us despite Jughead’s rather insulting doubts.
“Hey Betty! What’s up?”
“Hey, sorry for calling so late, but I was wondering if you could come help me? I’m at my house and I’m trying to decode a message that someone left at Jughead’s trailer. Neither Jughead nor I can make any sense of it, and Juggie mentioned that you were pretty good at things like this?”
I was surprised. Jughead didn’t really want Betty getting to know his world, and he had been very reluctant to introduce us to her when she was around. Now he was mentioning me and getting Betty to invite me over to her house? On the Northside?
“Um well yeah, I can definitely take a shot. Want me to head over right now?” I finally responded.
Betty let out a heavy breath in relief. “Yes please, it is rather….time sensitive, from what I can tell.”
I squinted in confusion. If they couldn’t decode it, how did they know it was time sensitive?
“Okaaay yeah I’m just at the Wyrm, so let me see if someone can give me a ride.”
“Oh, Jughead will come get you!” I could hear Jughead saying something in the background. Betty quietly responded to him before returning to our conversation. “Yeah, he’ll be there in about 10 minutes. Thank you soooo much for your help.”
We said our goodbyes and hung up. I was frowning as I tried to figure out what exactly was going on. Sweet Pea turned to me and saw my concerned expression.
“What’s going on, babe?” Sweet Pea asked as he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me in tight to his chest.
“Jughead’s Betty just called me? She said she needs my help with some kind of….coded message? And the weirdest part is that Jughead was the one who suggested that I take a crack at it.”
Sweet Pea frowned as he played with my hair. “That’s super weird. He’s always freaking out if we talk to her about even the most basic things.”
Fangs crossed his arms over his chest, cocking his head to the side while he considered it. “I mean, I think out of the Serpents, he might be most okay if you’re the one who gets to know Betty. You always talk about what is and is not safe or morally justifiable, and he obviously cares a lot about that kind of shit. Plus you are good at codes and puzzles and stuff.”
“Yeah, I guess. I dunno. They just seem to be kinda freaked about this weird message Jughead received,” I said with a sigh and a shrug.
I turned to Sweet Pea and snuggled into his broad chest. The soft flannel he wore was warm against my cheek.
“Jughead is gonna come pick me up in a couple minutes because they want it solved, like, now.”
Sweet Pea looked surprised. I don’t think I had ever been really alone with Jughead before. Despite the fact that we got along and we had even had some good conversations in the past, Jughead and Sweet Pea had a weird relationship. They respected each other now, and they would die for each other, but there was still a shadow between them that had yet to dissipate. I know that Sweet Pea didn’t care if I was alone with Jughead or even if we became good friends, but Jughead seemed to try to make sure that we were always in a public place whenever we talked. I sometimes wondered if Jughead was just a little bit scared of what Sweet Pea would do if he suspected Jughead was up to something untoward. I found it rather ridiculous considering the trust that Sweet Pea and I had for each other and the fact that anyone with a brain could see how much Jughead loved Betty. I had originally thought he was just uncomfortable around me as a person, but we always had good conversations and talked about a lot of different subjects, so I felt like that wouldn’t be the case anymore. I was starting to consider us friends.
Sweet Pea nodded. “Okay, but just make sure you wear a helmet on his bike. I don’t know if I fully trust his driving abilities yet.”
I giggled and reached up for a kiss. “Just for you, Sweets.”
We kissed slowly, languidly, while Fangs rolled his eyes.
“I swear, you two lovebirds walk a fine line between being adorable or disgusting.”
Sweets pulled back and glared at Fangs. “You know we’re adorable. Don’t even try to deny it.”
I laughed, loving how silly Sweet Pea acted when it came to me. He would rather die than be called adorable by anyone, and it was still amazing to me that he didn’t mind when it came to our relationship.
I checked the time, realizing I needed to head outside if I wanted to meet Jughead.
“I gotta go, Sweets. I’ll see you tonight.” I gave him one more kiss before disengaging from his strong arms. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he said with a soft smile reserved for me.
“Bye, Fangs. Love you too.” I gave him a kiss on the cheek, leaving him to grumble about how I made him look soft in front of all his friends.
I headed for the door of the Wyrm, saying bye and goodnight to my friends as I walked past them. When I reached the outdoors, the chilly fall air seeped into my bones. I pulled my leather Serpents jacket tighter around my chest and tucked my hands into my pockets. I leaned against the light pole in the parking area, waiting for Jughead to arrive.
After about a minute in the cold, I was considering waiting inside. Maybe Jughead got distracted before he left Betty’s. Or maybe Betty lived a lot further than I realized. All I knew is that she lived on the Northside.
I was checking the time again when I realized I wasn’t alone. I raised my eyes, sliding into a defensive stance automatically. I was astonished to see a boy I knew from school walking towards me. As far as I knew, he had just recently joined the Ghoulies. I felt my lip curl with scorn.
“What do you want, Ghoulie? Don’t you know this is Serpent territory?” I sneered at him.
The boy raised a hand. I noticed that his arm was shaking in the split second before I realized he was holding a gun. Time seemed to move in slow motion as I raised my eyes to face.
He was staring at me with a blank expression on his face. “He didn’t solve it.”
“Who didn’t solve what?” I asked in a croaking voice. My throat felt like it was full of sand.
Could I disarm him? Could I get away? Could I scream for help?
“They said that this was just a test to see whether the Serpent Prince was truly worthy of the Southside. But he failed. So now we need to show the Serpents that failure has consequences.”
I noticed that his arm was no longer shaking.
I knew that he was going to shoot me; it wasn’t a question of if anymore, but a question of how soon.
“Do you mean Jughead? What do the Ghoulies want with Jughead?” I said cautiously, eyeing his face.
“That isn’t for you to know.”
And then it happened.
I saw his finger tighten around the gun and I tried to drop to the side. The explosion of the gun rang through my head, drowning out every noise and every thought. I felt the pain rip through my right shoulder. The heat and the agony shredded outward from my arm, radiating through my body. I hit the ground and froze, assessing the situation.
The Ghoulie took off as soon as he pulled the trigger. I saw him pounding down the pavement until a person in a bright red car pulled out of a nearby alley and popped the passenger door for him. They peeled off down the street.
I took a deep breath and tried to stand up. The sound of the gunshot was still ringing through my brain.
I saw light spill onto the pavement in front of me. Someone had opened the door of the Wyrm. I heard pounding footsteps and yelling over the roar in my head. I couldn’t stand up. I was feeling light-headed, and I was starting to feel scared. I grabbed my shoulder, trying to stop the bleeding.
I rolled over, clutching my arm and breathing heavily. Suddenly, I saw Sweet Pea’s face flash before my eyes.
“Sweets,” I tried to say. I don’t know if I was successful.
I saw his mouth moving. He was trying to say something but I couldn’t understand over the roaring in my ears. His terrified face was the last thing I saw before I passed out.
The first thing I noticed when I came to was a steady beeping. I opened my eyes slowly, blinking into the light. My head felt somehow heavy and also full of cotton balls at the same time. I tried to focus.
I was in a hospital room. The steady beep of my heart rate monitor increased slightly as I looked around in concern.
I saw Sweets sitting on a chair beside my bed, slumped with his chin against his chest. He must be sleeping. I tried to reach for him, stopping as a searing pain shot through my right side. I groaned, remembering the events of the shooting. I tried to look at my shoulder but it was covered in a million bandages.
“Princess!” Sweet Pea cried, standing up quickly. He rushed to me and held my face. “How are you feeling? Do you need anything? Should I get the doctor?” he demanded in a rush.
“My shoulder and my head hurt but that’s about it. I don’t think you need to get the doctor.”
I felt tears threatening to spill as I stared into his eyes. Sweet Pea looked terrible. There were heavy bags under his eyes and his hair was in a complete disarray. His eyes held a look of near panic as he studied my face.
“Okay. Okay, yeah,” he said in a voice I had never heard from him before.
He sat down again, running his fingers through my hair over and over. He stared at me as if he couldn’t believe I was right there in front of him.
“Sweets, I’m okay. It was just my shoulder. It’s embarrassing that I even passed out at all.”
I reached out and stilled his hands, smiling up at him gently.
“Yeah, you’re okay, but what if they hadn’t shot your shoulder? What if you weren’t okay?” He looked at me with pain in his eyes. “I can’t lose you.”
I squeezed his fingers and nodded. “I know. I get terrified every time you’re in a fight. I get it. I couldn’t handle losing you either.”
Sweet Pea seemed to be calming down slightly. He ran his hands over my hair, my face, my hands just trying to reassure himself that I was there and I was safe.
After a couple of minutes, I felt like I could ask the question that had been burning in my mind since I opened my eyes.
“Did you catch the Ghoulie?”
Sweets’ eyes slide downward. “Yeah, we got 'em. Fangs and Tall Boy handled things.” His eyes widened and he looked up, slightly guilty. “Actually, I was supposed to go get everyone from the waiting room the second you woke up. I’ll be right back.”
He stood and stared at me for a couple of seconds before turning and rushing towards the waiting room.
I understood Sweet Pea’s terror. Every time I cleaned him up after a fight, I felt that rush of relief when I realized his injuries were minor. If any injury looked slightly bad, I had to stop jumping to worst case scenarios in my head. I loved him so much and I couldn’t stand to see him hurt, but I also couldn’t handle the idea of being without him.
The door to my room opened and a couple nurses walked in with a doctor. They checked me out and declared that I was doing well. I had lost a lot of blood on the scene due to the location of the bullet, but there didn’t seem to be permanent nerve damage, and they had been able to extract the bullet.
As they were leaving, I saw my friends push through the door. I smiled, relieved to see all of them there.
“There’s my girl! Look at you sitting there like a badass,” Toni Topaz, my closest girl friend, said with a grin. She rushed over and gave me a half hug. “What, you missed me so much last night that you went and got shot so you could see me?”
I laughed lightly, trying not to disturb my shoulder. “Yes, that was exactly what happened.”
Fangs moved towards me and fist bumped my good hand.
“You scared the shit outta me, girlie. I aged 25 years tonight.”
I made a twisted face and stuck out my tongue. “Well, I’m sorry I inconvenienced you so much. Maybe you’ll have better luck with the ladies with your newfound grey hair.”
“His luck couldn’t possibly get worse,” chimed in Toni.
I saw Betty Cooper standing beside Jughead, gripping his hand tightly. She had tear stains down her cheeks and her eyes were red. When she felt my gaze, she pulled Jughead closer to my bed.
“I am so sorry. I feel responsible for this,” she said in a rush, looking guilty.
Jughead shook her hand. “It’s not your fault, Betts. I’m the one who wanted to call her. And the Ghoulies are the ones who shot her.”
He turned to me and grabbed my good hand with his free one. “I am so sorry I got you involved in this. I didn’t know who had sent the message or what it said, so I had no idea that they were going to hurt anyone if I asked for help.”
“Hey, relax,” I said, shaking my head. “The kid who shot me was probably doing it as some initiation thing anyway. The contents of the message might not have even mattered.”
Jughead frowned, looking unconvinced.
Sweet Pea spoke up from behind them. “I think the assholes that Tall Boy caught were more worried about sticking it to the Serpents than whether you actually decoding their little puzzle. They were high and barely even knew what was going on.”
I turned to Sweet Pea now. It sounded like he had more knowledge about the shooter than he had let on.
“What happened to them?” I asked sternly. I knew the Serpents and their specific brand of justice, but I hoped that they hadn’t let Sweet Pea dish out any of that justice so quickly after I’d been shot.
Sweet Pea shuffled his feet and Fangs coughed. No one was ready to give me an answer, it seemed.
“Fangs. What happened,” I demanded, no longer asking.
He looked just over my shoulder instead of making eye contact.
“Well, I mean, the boys all took off in every direction to try to chase down the shooter, and we found those Ghoulies in their souped-up car. Tall Boy brought ‘em back and we….questioned them. About why they shot you.” He rubbed the back of his neck, everyone watching him with a sullen expression. “They said that they were testing Jughead and his ability to lead the Serpents. And if he couldn’t even solve a riddle, he didn’t deserve to lead, so they were letting him know that this was…a consequence of his poor leadership abilities.”
Everyone was silent for a moment. I could feel Jughead’s eyes on me.
“Well, that’s just bullshit. Send a riddle to someone and expect them to solve it without any help? A good leader asks for help when necessary.” I turned to Jughead and smiled softly at him. “Those idiots were just drugged up macho boys who wanted to shoot someone.”
Sweet Pea stepped forward and kisses my cheek. “We know, babe. Don’t stress about it. We took real good care of them.”
My eyes widened. “Sweets, you didn’t-“
“No, no, I just got in a good punch or two after you got out of surgery. Tall Boy wouldn’t let me do more than that.”
Fangs snorted in response to that. “More like he showed up at the Wyrm and it took 4 of us to hold Pea back so that Tall Boy could get those lowlifes out of there.” Fangs saw my expression and quickly continued, “But yeah, he did technically only punch each of them a couple of times.”
I shuddered in relief, reaching quickly for his hand. I knew what Sweet Pea was capable of if he fell into a blind rage, and I didn’t want Sweet Pea to be haunted by the consequences if he had killed the Ghoulies.
Jughead and Toni started talking about something, but I wasn’t able to pay attention. I could feel myself fading. My head was pounding and I felt exhausted. Everyone seemed to notice and quickly said their goodbyes and get-wells. Soon it was just me and Sweet Pea again.
He leaned onto the bed as much as he could considering his size. He wrapped his arms around me, careful not to shake my shoulder. He kept staring at me like he thought I might disappear.
“I’m okay. I’m not going anywhere,” I reassured him over and over again.
Sweet Pea dropped a heavy kiss on my forehead. “I’m not leaving your side for at least a week,” he declared.
I smiled and curled into him. I didn’t doubt it one bit.

Chapter 1 (/2) - lovesick the beat inside my head
The first thing Ronan noticed about the new kid was how smart he was and frankly that pissed him off. A lot. Because it meant that from now on he had to actually put an effort to maintain his reputation as the scary, mysterious kid who also somehow spoke Latin like it was his mother language. He was a legend. But then this Adam guy shows up and Ronan’s throne starts shaking (his heart too if we want to be honest). But soon, Ronan realized that Adam wasn’t like everyone else in this shitty school.
People on Aglionby walked like they owned the world. They looked at you in the eyes because they wanted you to understand that they are important and you are not. They were the definition of white privilege, their whole existence shouted rich and dangerous, they were the people you are meant to be afraid of. Ronan hated this school and he hated himself for going there and most importantly for looking like them; rich and dangerous.
But Adam wasn’t like that. He lived in the shadows. He didn’t have any friends and he never talked about his life. Adam was a shadow. And because of that, Ronan almost managed to stop thinking about him all day, but the next day, the boy would say something really smart, not in an asshole-y way, but in a way that would make Ronan’s heart explode with awe and fondness.
The second thing Ronan noticed on Adam was his hands. They were calloused and rough. Many times his knuckles were split; proof that although he looked like he was made of sugar and spice and everything nice, he really wasn’t. He could tear you apart if he wanted.
Ronan loved Adam’s hands not only because they looked good, but because they meant something. They were the hands of a fighter, of someone who worked hard. Adam, Ronan concluded again, wasn’t a spoiled brat, like everyone else in this goddamn school, save Noah.
The third thing Ronan noticed about Adam was his anger. That boy was always angry and ready to punch something or someone. Of course he never got into fights inside Aglionby, because that would probably be the end of his scholarship. When people saw Adam they thought he was a shy, kind kid, the type teachers always loved, but Ronan saw the storm raging inside him. He saw it in the way he walked, in the way he moved, in how his jaw and shoulders were always tensed. He saw it in his eyes. But what Ronan couldn’t understand was the why.
Adam was indeed a riddle and Ronan was more than willing to solve it.
Ronan, Noah and Gansey were having lunch. Gansey was rambling about welsh kings and god knows what else. Ronan started spacing out. Then his phone buzzed. It was a message from Noah. Ronan raised his eyebrow at him and then opened the message.
Noah: youre starring again why don’t you go talk to him
He looked at Noah again and that asshole was smirking. He quickly typed an answer before flipping the bird to the boy and getting the hell out of there.
Ronan: fuck you that’s my business
Noah burst out laughing and Gansey, who was the most oblivious person alive, stopped talking mid-sentence, confused on what had actually just happened. Ronan slammed the cafeteria’s door behind him.
Just as he was getting into his car his phone buzzed again.
Noah: if you wont go talk to him I will
Noah: im tired of your pining shit
Ronan went straight to Monmouth. He wanted to go to the Barns but then he remembered he forgot to feed Chainsaw before he left in the morning. Not that she couldn't find food on her own, but Ronan had really strong feelings about feeding her. It was their bonding time, as he called it.
He was just outside the main entrance when he heard a loud bang behind him. He turned and shit, there Adam Parrish was in the middle of the road. He had obviously fallen off his bike for some reason. Ronan ran and kneeled down next to him.
"Hey are you okay? What happened?" he asked.
"Isn't it obvious? I fell off my bike?" Adam said.
Adam tried to stand up but he fell down again. Ronan tried to catch him so now they were half hugging and too close for Ronan not to freak out. For a second they just stared at each other's eyes. The sea fighting the sea. Then Adam sighed and looked away.
"I'm fine okay? I'm not hurt or anything." he said.
"Man you're not fine. You probably hit your head or something-"
Then a car stopped next to them. Both turned to see who it was. Shit, Ronan thought because it was a white Mitsubishi. Kavinsky was looking at them and at that moment he really looked like a wolf.
He said, "Hey Lynch, didn't know you hang out with trailer park trash now."
Ronan was suddenly on his feet, fists balled.
"Hey K, fuck off." he said.
"Too protective of your new boyfriend, aren't you? Wait. When did you and Dick broke up?"
Ronan took a step forward, ready to attack, but Adam stopped him by grabbing his hand. Kavinsky looked at their joined hands for a split second, his expression unreadable.
He wore his white sunglasses again and before he drove off he said, “See you around Lynch.”
After that Ronan was literally radiating anger. Adam thought that being next to Ronan when he was that angry felt like seeing a star burn and die. It was beautiful, yes, but it also made you feel this overwhelming sadness. It made your heart ache.
“Hey Ronan,” he said softly “are you alright?”
Ronan sighed. “Yeah I’m alright. He’s just a dickhead.”
Adam looked at him for a second. Ronan felt like his stare would set him on fire. He closed his eyes and when he opened them again he saw Parrish limping towards his bike.
"Hey hey hey," he shouted "I'm not letting you ride this bike when you're limping. What an irresponsible citizen would that make me."
"Ronan. We both know you already are an irresponsible citizen."
"Yea whatever if you have to be somewhere then I'll drive you there but if you don't shut up and come inside with me. I'll give you ice for that thing."
Adam shot him a questioning look, "Inside?"
Ronan pointed at Monmouth and said, “This is where I live.”
Adam could recognize a lost battle when he saw one. He sighed and followed Ronan inside.
Ronan passed the living room and went straight to the kitchen/bathroom. He opened the fridge, grabbed one of the many ice packs and gave it to Adam. Their hands brushed slightly and Ronan tried not to think about it much. He also grabbed some ice cream and they both went to sit on the couch.
“So why do you have so many ice packs?” Adam asked after a while.
“Because Gansey thinks we need them. Something about me getting into too many fights. Can you even believe this guy?”
“Oh yeah, I almost forgot you guys live together. I- I didn’t know you were- like- you know- boyfriends?” Adam said blushing.
Ronan literally choked. “What? No! We’re not? Gansey is the straightest person I’ve ever met! Jesus, Parrish.”
Adam blushed even harder. Of course Kavinsky was lying. But still, something bothered him about what Ronan said. Maybe it was the fact that Gansey didn’t seem that straight to him. I mean have you seen his boat shoes? Or maybe it was the fact that Ronan said Gansey’s not gay not I’m not gay. Adam decided he shouldn’t ask more and continued eating his ice cream.
He started thinking he must have sprained his ankle. Adam really hoped it was nothing, because he had a night shift on Boyd’s today. He also had to hide it from his parents because they’ll probably take his bike away.
”So how did you even fell off your bike?” Ronan asked.
Adam turned pink again. “I got distracted,” he said, because he couldn’t exactly say I was looking at you and I didn't see there was a fucking hole in front of me.
Ronan only hummed.
They continued eating ice cream and staring at each other. Ronan had the distant feeling they were looking at each other's eyes for far too long, but he didn't particularly mind. Oh, how much he loved the deep blue of Adam's eyes.
Then there was a loud bang on the door and both boys jumped as if they were electrocuted. The door opened and Matthew Lynch entered the room with the hugest smile Adam had ever seen.
"Why do you even bother to knock if you're going to just open it yourself one second later?" Ronan asked but he wasn't mad; his voice was soft and you could hear a smile in there.
"Joke's on you I wasn't knocking, I just tripped and fell on the door."
That cracked Adam up. Matthew turned to look at him.
"Hey I'm Matthew! And you are?"
"I'm Adam." he said in between laughs.
Matthew face went blank for a moment and then he smirked, "Ohh you're Adam?"
They both briefly looked at Ronan.
"Yea, have we- met before?"
"No? Sorry I was thinking of another Adam."
Adam shot him a questioning look, " You're not a very good liar, aren't you?" he said.
Matthew only shrugged and turned to Ronan, who had turned slightly pink. "Hey Ro, please tell me you didn't forget today is our pizza day."
Ronan got up and went to shuffle Matthew's hair. "Of course, I didn't forget about it kiddo," he said and then he turned to Adam, "Hey Adam wanna come with us at Nino's for pizza?"
"Yeah actually I have to go to Nino's, because I promised Blue but I can't stay sorry."
"Blue? Isn't that the short waitress? Wait, is she your girlfriend? Oh man can't wait for Gansey to find out."
"What? Blue? No, absolutely not. We're just friends. But what was that about Gansey?" Adam said smirking.
"Nothing. Just forget about it." Ronan said, smiling. "Can you walk?"
"Yes the ice helped thanks."
Matthew smiled again and that made Adam's heart ache. "Let's go then!" he said.
Adam:  im not coming
Blue: Adam come on !!!
Blue: it will be fun and Henry and Noah came in person to invite us
Adam: us ??
Blue: yes they said
Blue: Blue we'd love you to come and please make Adam come too
Adam: Blue.
Adam: look I know your rules
Adam: since when do you hang out with raven boys? why don't you tell what's this really about??
Blue: okay
Blue: well
Blue: Gansey is going to be there too
Adam: ah Blue I get why you want to go but please dont make me come
Adam: first of all I dont have a costume
Blue: yes you do
Blue: I have three cousins in our age and you think I wouldn't find a costume for you? you're going as Spiderman
Adam: what the fuck
Blue: shut up
Adam: and you’re going as ??
Blue: eleven from stranger things
Blue: so that means you’re coming ?
Adam: yes
Blue: YES
Blue: oh and
Blue: I forgot to tell you
Blue: ronan’s gonna be there too
Blue: ;)
Ronan opened his bedroom door and froze. There was something absolutely hideous on his bed. A Halloween costume. Ronan could practically hear the distant echo of drums foreseeing his imminent doom.
"Noah!" he shouted.
Noah, as if he was waiting to hear his name, came out of his room wearing his best smirk.
That. Asshole.
"Yes Ronan," he said "Can I help you with something?"
Ronan was ready to punch him. "I told you I'm not coming to your stupid Halloween party" he snarled.
"But it's not my stupid Halloween party. It's Cheng's too!" Noah said laughing.
"Do I look like I fucking care? What even is this thing?" Ronan said, pointing at the costume.
"It's a vampire costume! I think it suits you. Have you seen how pale you are?"
"Yes, Noah, I know how fucking pale I am."
"Anyway Ronan I don't want to make you do anything you don't want to. But you know, everyone is gonna be there, me, Gansey, Henry, even Blue and Adam." he said and winked.
He. Fucking. Winked.
Ronan looked at him dead in the eye and then he slammed the door to his face. Gansey came out of the kitchen. He was eating yogurt and his eyebrow was raised.
"What was that?" he asked.
"Nothing, everything is under control" Noah said.
"You know, hearing 'everything is under control' from you is really making me think nothing is under control."
The party, as Ronan suspected, was terrible. And his costume was even worst. The fake teeth he was wearing made it hard for him to drink and Ronan didn't actually believe he could survive the night without getting wasted.
Somewhere between the third and fourth drink Kavinsky came and sat next to him. Ronan gave him his best angry glare.
"So where's your new boyfriend? Trouble in heaven?" Kavinsky said.
Ronan didn't answer. Not only because he didn't exactly know what to say, but also because if he opened his mouth he'd probably puke all over K. Now he was thinking about it, it wasn't a bad option really.
"What, now you're not talking to me? Did I hurt your feelings?" Kavinsky continued.
Ronan told him to fuck off. He got up and started heading outside. He slammed the door behind him.
Ronan then noticed there was someone else there, sitting on the pavement, a few feet away from the door. A Spiderman?
"Hey" the Spiderman said, taking off his mask.
It was Adam. In tights. His hair messier than ever, because of the mask. Ronan's heart skipped a beat. He went and sat down next to him. Maybe a little too close, but Adam didn't move away.
"Hey" he said.
Adam looked at him. At how his jaw was tense, his fists balled.
"So, what happened?" he asked.
Ronan sighed. "Kavinsky."
"Okaay, what's the deal with you two anyway? Are you friends or arch enemies?"
Ronan chuckled, "No, we're not friends. I don't know man, he is just obsessed with me. He hates me."
"Well, here's the thing, I don't believe he hates you." Adam said.
"Oh yeah? And why is he torturing me then?"
"I- I think- he's-um- hitting on you?"
Ronan flinched, "What? No! No way. What?"
Adam laughed a little, "Are you so freaked out right now because it is Kavinsky or because he is-like- a boy?"
"Obviously because it is Kavinsky," Ronan sighed and bit his lower lip, "Seriously Adam, I don't understand people that look at me and actually think I'm straight." he said slowly.
"You're not?" Adam said, his eyes wide.
"No I'm not. Don't look at me like that!" he said, blushing.
Adam turned slightly pink too, "Yeah that makes two of us I guess."
Ronan turned to look at the other boy, but he didn't know what to say. Frankly, he just wanted to kiss him and kiss him and kiss him. But instead he said, "So, do you have a boyfriend?"
Adam laughed, "Nah, I don't. Although I think Tad Carruthers would really much like to be my boyfriend."
Ronan laughed too, "Tad? You fucking kidding me? Did you see him today? He was dressed as a fucking zombie. It was terrible."
"Yeah," Adam said, "Besides I prefer vampire boys." he said and blushed even harder.
Ronan felt like the universe tilted and approximately five tons were lifted off his chest. Adam was looking at him, his eyes filled with uncertainty.
He cupped Adam's face and leaned in.
Their first kiss was quick, but Ronan felt like something erupted inside of him and the universe fell back into place.
Adam leaned in again. They kissed and kissed and only stopped to breath. Blue, green and red lights were dancing all around them. Ronan could only think of one word; beautiful.
Chapter 2 - and i got love falling like the rain
The first thing Adam noticed on Ronan that morning was how the freckles on his shoulders blend in with the sharp lines of his tattoo. They looked like tiny stars being sucked by a black hole. He was mesmerized by it. Adam, not for the first time, wondered how is it even possible for a person to be so beautiful and terrifying at the same time.
The second thing he noticed was Ronan's smile. He had only seen it once before, that day with Matthew. Back then, he was surprised by how true of a smile it was. Now, he was surprised by how it made his heart dance.
The third thing Adam noticed was Ronan's eyes. They looked even more magical from this close. It wasn't exactly ocean's blue nor sky's blue. It was something else entirely. It was Ronan's.
The boy sleeping next to him was made of light and magic and Adam loved it with every fibre of his being. Maybe for the first time in his life, he was happy.

Hello, Darklings! It’s time for another installment of What’s New Wednesday, and this week I’m all about looking to the future. Now, if this is your first visit here, the What’s New Wednesday posts usually revolve around what’s happening in my life this week. 🙂 Sometimes, I also get into my current obsessions on these posts, just because …
So, let’s stop dawdling and get into the nitty-gritty,  yeah?
TV/Film/Youtube
This week, I’m all about binge-watching the second season of N0S4A2, which I am currently obsessed with! The first season left me a little disappointed, mostly because I couldn’t understand why the creators decided to veer off the book, but I get it now. I LOVE it now. The backstory of Charlie Manx is on point and I’m very interested to see where the creators are going.
Coming to Netflix today is The Devil all the Time, which looked pretty cool judging by the trailer. The film stars Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, and Bill Skarsgard, so my inner-teen is kind of intrigued to see them all on screen together. What can I say? I love me some pretty boys with a dark side. 😉
Okay, okay, so usually I don’t really get obsessive with Youtube channels, but I found Bailey Sarian the other day and fell in love with her Murder, Mystery & Makeup segment. You guys should know by now that I love me some true crime … I also do enjoy makeup (a lot), so this ticks all my happy boxes. Click here and enjoy some of the AWESOME!
Books
I’ve actually read more books last week than I intended, which is (obviously) good. LOL! But this week is a bit busy, so I only have two picks I’m going to delve into. The first one is The Girl in the Video by Michael David Wilson to get my psychological horror fix. This book is described as: The Girl in the Video is The Ring meets Fatal Attraction for the iPhone generation. *gets chills … in a good way*
Then, I’m going to spend some time with Scott Carson‘s The Chill, because who doesn’t like stories about drowned villages and supernatural forces hellbent on destroying stuff? I can’t wait. Eeeep!
Personal Writing Stuff
Website
So, last week I told y’all that I’m fixing up my website a wee bit with some new extras and whatnot? Well, if you haven’t gone in search of all the new goodies I have added yet, no worries. I’ve got you covered. 😉 First off, I added a Read-Alikes page for everyone who’s getting some withdrawal symptoms from The Night Weaver and as a bonus, I also added comparative titles for The Bone Carver! I’ll keep updating the page as time goes on with whatever new books I release or if I read something that could help you get your fix.
Another recent extra I added was the Cover Evolution of The Night Weaver, which is kind of self-explanatory. It’s a bit of a behind-the-scenes look at how the cover has transformed from 2018 until now.
I’m still working on getting new stuff up and there’s a secret project I’m planning specifically for the site. Muhahaha!
The Bone Carver
I have some more Fan L❤️VE to share with you guys!
Now, there’s something else I’ve tried to add, but I couldn’t, so check that one out here. Thank you @Oasisgrlmd for the pretty-pretty. It’s gorgeous!
Thank you to everyone taking such beautiful photos of The Bone Carver. Your creativity keeps blowing my mind!
Pre-Order
For a small New England town, Shadow Grove has an uncanny ability to attract the worst kind of trouble. Not that the residents are too concerned about the various horrors living among them.
As the leaves change color and the weather grows colder, a foul presence is making itself known by leaving peculiar gifts for the students of Ridge Crest High. At first the presents seem harmless—and a rash of accidents seem coincidental—but when seniors Rachel Cleary and her Scottish cousin, Dougal Mackay, find a boneless body in the boiler room, things take an ominous turn.
Something vicious is on the loose in Shadow Grove, and not knowing whether Orion Nebulius will ever return, Rachel has very little hope of anyone making it out alive.
PRE-ORDER NOW!
Looking to the Future
With The Bone Carver’s release coming up fast, I’m preparing for interviews and all the marketing stuff that usually goes along with new book releases, so I’ll try to keep everyone updated with cool new stuff off-site on the What’s New Wednesday segments. We’re talking teasers, excerpts, and the like. It’s gonna be good. Promise!
Then, probably by the end of the year or thereabouts, we’ll get into more Dark Country promo stuff. I’m sure a LOT of you are curious about what the cover looks like by now … It’s super freaking pretty. I’m 100% in love with it (and if that’s not enough to get you interested, I’ve already seen the second book’s cover. EEEP!
Looking to the future … well, that also includes that on Monday we’re going knife forging again. I’ve got to hammer out some frustrations (and finish up my knife, of course) LOL! 🔪 🔪 Soon thereafter, it’s birthday time for yours truly! I’m keeping what we have planned for that a secret for now, but it’s going to be lovely. I just know it.
And that’s it for this week’s What’s New Wednesday.
Be good, stay safe, and see you again next week. 🙂
Love ya,
Monique

Zoya x Nikolai Wedding
Dedicated to @queen-aelin-of-terrasen
They do it on Nikolai’s boat, from his wild pirate days
It’s at dawn, even if Nikolai complained the WHOLE time about waking up so early
Only a few people came, like Alina, Mal, their child (who’s softly snoring), Genya, and David
Nikolai and Zoya don’t dress up, since this was very unplanned (they only decided the day before)
Zoya wears her kefta, but Genya forced her to put her hair down and braid flowers into it
Nikolai wears his normal outfit out to sea, and somehow it’s perfection (so is his hair)
Everyone stands to the side, waiting for Zoya to walk up, and David decides to lead the wedding (he is the only one with a license)
Nikolai has made a few jokes to David while there waiting for Zoya about his incredible looks, but David doesn’t understand them
When Zoya walks up the stairs, Nikolai’s breath is taken away, and he is on the verge of tears, his eyes glistening
Zoya walks steadily and head on to Nikolai, and gives him a small smile when she walks up, making Nikolai blush
Zoya and Nikolai are married, and by the end of their vows (which you can imagine) everyone’s crying their eyes out
Soon after, Zoya gives Genya her bouquet telling her to not get married without her
Zoya and Nikolai go into a small raft, and paddle away, into the morning sun, waving to a crying crowd, enjoying the married life.
