So uh. I may end up doing this ask for several characters in the future but the main few that have been burning in my mind, the Icons Vesper and Zizz, I've been really curious as to how they would react to a deaf/Hard of Hearing s/o?

Their s/o has a Hearing service dog and have an uncanny ability to somehow sense when someone is approaching, watching, or standing near. The hearing service dog would also alert the s/o if unfamiliar figures or concerning noises such as screaming, gun shots, and other loud noises; also when someone is approaching or trying to get the attention of the s/o.

Would they try to figure out a way to communicate with the deafness or just use magic to circumvent the disability? Would they allow their s/o to continue keeping their service animal or force them to get rid of it?

Also, a bit more on the NSFW and/or dark side, would any of them use the deafness to their advantage? Say things they normally wouldn't say around their s/o, such as their deepest or darkest desires towards their s/o?

I'll probably think of more stuff later on but this had been burning in my mind cause of my own deafness and I can't help but imagine a thousand different scenarios of what would happen with each Icon. I love your writing, Pinnie!! I found you through Ao3 by the way. :)

Most of them are lazy/selfish. And you've seen that through several asks in the past, wherein even if their Queen had a disability or two, they would sooner resort to expensive magics than deal with the workload of said disability the common way.

Many of them will use enchanted jewelry in your day to day outfits to circumvent deafness. The thing is, said jewelry usually can only establish an understanding between two people, those who wear the pair (like a set of rings). For everyone else, you'll have to do things normally, which is something the Icons will realize very soon as well...

Here's where it gets tricky though- Can your dog adapt to Hell? Is your service animal trained to be able to work in the presence of imposing being such as demonlords and other high-rankers? Can it withstand the heat of some Rings? It could be beneficial to get a second service animal born in Ring you'll be ruling over. Or, alternatively, you could get an imp of your own... Eitherway, if your dog happens to not adapt well enough, you can, with enough bothering and whining, demand proof that it has been sent to a loving home or is staying with relatives.

It's not too weird for them to see you be attentive to vibrations or other minuscule shifts. They've seen a plethora of monsters who rely on other senses to survive, but they can admire that you have more awareness than the average human. Icons like Livius and Vesper will make it a game to try to sneak up on you, Cero, Rinx and Vorticia are polite enough to find ways to announce their arrival, Kalymir will deliberately try to startle you and sulk when it fails (because you can likely feel the thunder of his walking) and Zizz will sometimes throw his blob around you to alert you of his presence.

Your dog can be accepted by all of the Icons with enough work, but you should be careful in some instances. Some of Vorticia's kids may be tempted to just eat it. Kalymir's lizards play too hard with other people's pets, so there's a chance they can hurt your service dog unintentionally. Cero will fuss and throw a fit if there's drool on the house or he gets licked. Rinx wants certain collections hidden from the dog, but also gets carried away buying things for it. Zizz will have a horrifying fit if your dog ruins any of the plushies/pillows in his room. Vesper would prefer you get an imp instead of a service animal because of the hyper-sexualized nature of his home...

Hey! I really enjoy your meta and was wondering if you could share your thoughts on why Ed says "never left" in episode 8. Because that infuriated me! He did leave and wasn't planning on coming back before the English reveal. But I also am aware that I relate deeply to Stede in episode 8 (the way they had him wear the same outfit as when he was bullied as a child killed me) so I'm sure my view is skewed. But it read to me like let's just pretend that didn't happen which I understand could be a call back to the bathtub scene but it just rubs me wrong.

So can I have your thoughts about why Ed/the writers went with the iconic "never left" + wink reply?

i CAN, and buckle up because this one is something i have so many thoughts about but somehow have only briefly tackled.

so: ed is a really socially aware guy. he's good with reading people, he can do sarcasm just fine, but he doesn't know the rules of the social road in stede's world which means when stede does the 'my body language and whole vibe SCREAMS i don't like this, my words say yeah cool do it more, even! i'm fine with this' thing because he's used to that as a way to make life "easier" for everybody by just entirely avoiding open confrontation ever, ed is like ...okay, i am either supposed to call you a liar here or carry on? because in my world, when you want something to fuckin stop you say FUCKIN STOP and when you're being a real jerk on purpose, you want people to know it's because you hope they have a shitty day.

(i know ed the adult man not knowing the terms retirement and passive aggressive exist or what they mean has led to some real world logic application all, ed is dumb/doesn't know basic words and the like, but those are Theme Moments because this is a big gay play running on rule of cool. the text is saying: ed wants to stop but doesn't even know it's an option unless you die, and ed says what he means/expects everyone else to do the same.)

so in ed's world, what stede does as a mode of politeness/defense is just called lying. ed's not grounded in the world of books and social games; he's not looking for hidden purposeful meanings in the corners of everybody's words, which contributes to how he misses jack. (sidenote: i think stede is extra snippy because his spidey-sense for passive aggressive fuckery is going off endlessly and telling him something is not RIGHT here, and he needs to be on alert by the same token, but that's not super related. just wanted to say it!!! etc)

also, ed’s been introduced to the idea of passive aggression as a weapon; he hasn't been introduced to the niceties side. so when he leaves, it's with this funky vibe in the air where he feels like jack just came out to have a good time, stede's giving off the kind of mixed signals that are potentially scary, and it culminates in stede unfortunately framing his (very legit) annoyances as an issue with ed/his behavior vs issues with jack, and that only drives the wedge in deeper.

so when ed leaves, it's not because he wants to: it's this rolling avalanche of shitty things that all culminate in ed being like, if jack who represents my past and is just here to have a good time pisses stede off this much and makes him say he doesn't like me around jack, what happens when he decides i'm too much like jack to be borne a second longer and kicks me out, too?

theeeeen he finds out jack was there to fuck shit up on PURPOSE, and what stede had an issue with gets internally reframed. suddenly, stede is not judging ed by proxy, he's judging jack who is a lying dick and trying to cause trouble and drive them apart on purpose. this means even if stede's own issues were a large part of his reaction, stede actually read the room far better than ed. (just like he did at the party.)

the spin now emotionally is: stede tried to protect me. if i had listened and not trusted jack over stede's instincts, maybe none of this is happening. i have to go back and protect him.

which leads me into the actual line!!! stede's face is super key here, to set the stage. he's so, so fucking happy. like: incandescent. when he says 'you came back', he's so fucking relieved. they're about to get boarded by the fucking royal navy and stede looks happier than ever.

which tells ed: you never actually wanted me to leave. you are unconditionally glad to see me back, even though i fucked up and i should have listened to you. you're just glad i'm here, no matter what's going on.

so 'never left' is the moment he speaks stede's language for the first time, i think. the language of: what i am saying here is a cover for the deeper truth of what i mean. ed says never left, but he doesn't mean it like literally i was never gone or never intended to stay that way.

he means: i didn't want to go. and maybe, even better— emotionally, i was always still with you. my body left, the legend of blackbeard left, but ed was always right here. right where he wants to be.

and they're so thrilled to be together again, yes, but i think that's the crux of this scene and why their gazes stay tender and locked even as everything goes shit around them. why ed needs to reach out, and stede needs to lean back into that touch.

ed knows stede is just glad he's around; stede knows ed didn't ever want to leave him.

(and, after an episode of talking past each other, they are finally starting to work out the language to meet each other on even ground, where ed will give some and stede will give some and they will meet in the middle, neither of them having to exist entirely in the other's world or use the other's words to communicate.)

okay, SPOILER ALERT, i HAVE to speak on the current winx season 9 reboot leaks about stella (because she’s my winx everything).

THIS is good! i like this! i do think it’s an upgrade from a previous version we saw in a magazine, although i painfully wish it wasn’t orange/yellow. it’s fine to base off her transformation off of those colours, because she IS a light fairy, but her casual clothes?

people trashed her “tiktoker” outfit here but i mash these colours, add some more, and put it on the design of the current leak and it’d be the best of both worlds imo. but hey, i can get over it!

as for the transformation...

i do not like this chief. i’m gonna assume this is the new og winx transformation and not an upgrade like charmix, and boy, i do not like it, ESPECIALLY, when we originally got leaked this prototype!!

i’ll say it, sometimes doing less is doing more. the original was easy to recreate and it was still iconic and it was nowhere near as busy as the newest leaked version. the og s9 prototype looks more “airy” and in a way gives more of a “fairy” vibe (and even more than the og winx transformation did, while also feeling like an extension of those outfits), and it does look like a “base” transformation while still looking elegant and fairy-like.

new ones are doing too much! i don’t like bloom’s hair at all, but the BIGGEST CRIME. THE BIGGEST CRIME!! IS PUTTING MY GIRL STELLA IN PINK. WHY! JUST WHY!

stella already HAS dual powers (sun AND moon), her colour scheme of orange/yellow/light blue is absolutely ETHEREAL, like HAVE WE ALL SEEN ENCHANTIX STELLA? she has bits of pink, but the BLUE is what makes her POP OFF! AND it’s a perfect representation of her moon powers which have been oh so forgotten in the show and it hurts! stella has SO much going for her character and her story, and the showrunners keep pushing her into this one “ditzy fashion icon sun fairy” box it’s SOOOO exhausting.....

now if the new leaked transformation is actually an upgrade, i’d still be mad, because she’ll still have to look like that even in an “upgraded” transformation which, you would think, would look to introduce MORE blue to her design as a way to show her mastering her moon powers side more, but at least it would mean we’d get to see the original transformation design in the show...

i’ll still watch the show of course, but man! i’ll be a fool and cling onto hope that they might change more as the airing date approaches. they already changed their civilian clothes & transformation even as the reboot was officially revealed, so who knows...

Itty Bitty Nihal Moments That I Like

These are not the deep and important moments that I often quote but smaller moments that just flesh her out.

- Her taking Behlül’s teasing way too seriously. Relatable.

- This little episode:

“(…) for the past two days a new thought had been scratching at Bülent’s mind. Nihal had not yet had the heart to give him permission, but this had always been her way. At first she wouldn’t give permission, and then seeing that she was obeyed, saw no reason to object. Oh! How wonderful it was going to be!… Behlül had brought him a box of crayons, with every colour, and each picture would be coloured in… He would make the camel red.

‘Isn’t that right, sis? Camels are red, aren’t they?’

Nihal had not yet softened. ‘Are you crazy?’ she was saying, but she would not inform him of the colour of a camel.”

- Her approach to her lessons in general. Again relatable:

“She was always on the alert for a chance to have a breather after every eight lines of effort; to begin a long discussion derived from a word that was chanced upon during the lesson; or to run to the window and look at the garden while Mlle de Courton stood up and was removing the palaces and pots from Bülent’s notebook. Finally, among these mishaps Nihal’s lesson would be finished, and after a ten minute’s holiday, Bülent’s lesson would begin.”

Nihal was lifting her eyes, and asking, ‘is the gentleman pleased with Nihal’s eyes? Shall I smile a little more? Would you like to see my teeth?’

Nihal, widening her thin lips, showing her teeth, was leaning towards Behlül.”

- Her being glad that her father is too old for Bihter:

“As well as feeling a secret resentment towards this girl who talked of her father’s age, Nihal, without being able quite to identify it, also felt something like gratification. That age difference, by constituting a deficiency in this marriage, seemed to exact Nihal’s revenge.”

- Her wanting to make a snide comment about her father’s marriage to him but not doing that out of fear:

“This woman was to pick her up, take her to Kalpakçılarbaşı, and sell her to a man whom she had not seen or known until that day, like cheap goods.

Nihal, standing up again, was saying, ‘do you understand, papa? Never.’ As she spoke, there was an iron firmness in her thin voice.

Adnan Bey was smiling. ‘But my child,’ he was saying, ‘not all girls become Kalpakçılarbaşı brides.’

A sudden question was about to escape Nihal. ‘Where else do they become brides? At Kalender, at Kağıthane, at Göksu…’ While it did not escape her lips, this question frightened her so much that she went pale; but right from the start, as she was talking about the wedding, she had wanted to find an opportunity to talk a bit about Firdevs Hanım, about them. Yet, then her father would frown, and with a stern voice, say, ‘Nihal! Won’t you leave me alone?’”

“Nihal was pursing her lips. ‘Firdevs Hanım will tell you. You know how it is, young ladies may overhear things that are forgetfully spoken in their presence, but they are not allowed to repeat them…”

“She took a deep breath on the Bosphorus ferry. They were finally arriving. She kept turning her head to look out the window. They were with some garrulous women who kept her from thinking. There was a woman who had got on at Beşiktaş who, a few minutes after meeting two ladies who had got on with Nihal at the Bridge, was crying as she told the sad tale of how her daughter had died of consumption. Nihal was watching the great black cloud above Beylerbeyi [1] that waited to dissolve, and said to herself, ‘to die, to die of consumption, young, yet a child, how lovely.’ And she saw her father crying.”

- Her sudden joy at not finding Behlül at the house:

“She had kissed Bihter, she reached her forehead to Firdevs Hanım, and then she talked of her white room, of her aunt, of her outings, with the vivacity of a chatty canary. She was finding comical words, imitating her aunt, and laughing intermittently. She even told Bihter that they had chanced to see someone when they had gone out for a ride among the pines last night.

‘Guess who we happened to see,’ she was saying.”

She is both perceptive and naive, both knowledgeable and ignorant, both insufferable and endearing, both sensitive and sarcastic, both incredibly focused and easily distracted, both melancholic and joyful and ever moody. And yet it does not feel inconsistent. And she always acts her age, both at 12 and at 15. With very little touches she became such a varied and human character and nobody sees it.

Our fandom icon @bluebutter-art is celebrating her birthday today and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to once again scream about this fantastic human and unbelievably talented artist. I’m sure I don’t need to tell anyone how gifted Blue is, and how she has created 90% of my all-time favourite Drarry artworks at this point - her depictions speak so deeply to my soul that they’ve easily become my personal headcanon for these characters, not only in terms of appearance, mannerisms, posture and gadgets, but also storytelling-wise. To me Blue is just like a fic writer in the sense she’s able to come up with these rich, vibrant, aesthetically gorgeous and tender love stories, and that’s without including a single line of dialogue if she so desires. Her work has such emotional depth and resonance it feels like I’m reading a 30k fic with exciting plots, charming characters, witty flirting and the gentlest, sexiest get together. It’s just so impressive - and quite unbelievable to think we’re this lucky to have someone like her in our fandom. I don’t know how Blue gets to tug at my poor heartstrings every.single.time with poignant character arcs, witty expressions and compelling physique 🥵

Beyond her undeniable skill, Blue is also joyful, enthusiastic and supportive presence in the fandom. She shares unconditional love for fic, creators and friends, and it’s always the best company to exchange fic recs and indulgent praise for Harry’s thighs or Draco’s hair these idiots in love. Blue darling, I’m so happy we got to become friends, I couldn’t be more excited about your return to the fandom. This is my all-time favorite Drarry comic alongside a series from Dustmouth, and hands down my favorite piece from last year’s Sudsfest. It’s still hard to talk about (or even look at) it without getting all choked up. Within just a few lovely, meaningful panels, Blue delivers the most touching, deeply emotionally packed love story. This is a triumph, a poignant journey about grief and healing, quietly devastating but still full of hope and warmth. If you haven’t checked it yet what are you even doing with your fandom life?

Sometimes it’s Now or Never

This is one of the comics I revisit the most, I adore it so so much. Auror Harry trusting Draco to patch him up after a raid is THE ULTIMATE TROPE and Blue executes it so perfectly. The storytelling is complete and effective, you can feel the trust and tenderness between these characters without needing further background on their relationship. The amount of time I spent looking at those kissing panels, mesmerized at Harry’s silent resolve and Draco’s sweet tenderness as he yields into the kiss… *sigh* peak romance!

So this is the story of kind of a frustrating day at Paleo Pines.

So, start of my day I was going to pick my outfit and it's turns out, I'm poor. and I don't have any outfit choices.

That was embarassing.

So i want on and did all my little tasks for the day, being a little farmer gal, living my best life, you know.

And then i was like- right, to Pebble Plaza I go. That's fine. We're gonna do some shopping, get over it. We're gonna feel better once we get a little bit of shopping done.

So I turn up in the plaza and this…person… is in the cutest outfit I've ever seen, strutting around, and then she says to me "you're not from around here" what- what is that supposed to mean? How am I supposed to take that?

So obviously we're enemies, and I'm gonna get a nicer outfit than her.

So, I went and spoke to Orani and she's new, and she said she would whip me up with some new digs to outdo this other girl, who was… honestly just kind of, like, rude.

I asked this guy what he thought and he said "I don't have a moment to spare, sorry." And I don't really know what that means. So, on my way out I was going to intimidate her and then she just said something about getting apples. And I thought 'hmm, well, we're gonna see about them apples when I come back here'.

So I was going to go home and I got distracted because I seen the CUTEST ankylosaurus and I decided to tame it and, um, she loved me. I loved her. I said 'do you wanna be my friend' she said 'yes' and then I had to name her and I blanked for so long before I was like Daisy's kinda cute, so I'll maybe call her Daisy, so I typed in Daisy and then it almost said 'dairy' and I thought well, that's-that's a bad omen. I don't want to call her Dairy. So, I thought no- I need a new name and I looked at her, and she looks kind of Rocky. So, Rocky Balboa. So, now her name is Balboa.

So, then me, Guava, and Balboa headed back to the ranch. I set her up with some food, her own little pen, got her feeling comofrtable.

Then I was gonna shovel the poo in Raven and Lucky's pen, but they would not let me do it. and i was like "why are you gate keeping this pile of poo?". I got really confused - it turns out that my pockets are full. So, that's why I couldn't scoop it andf they were trying to tell me that I'm an idiot.

So I embarressed myself in front of Raven again. I feel like she's really cool and I feel like she knows that I'm not that cool.

So anyway, um, I thought once again- Pebble Plaza- make myself feel better- and when I was at Pebble Plaza I saw this person in this outfit and I was kind of like 'okay but like mine is gonna be better but I kind of respect it', you know. So then I went to see Owynn and, like, he's fine but I don't knopw that Lucky is because she dove into this bush and I was like "well, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" So I hopped in there with her just to see what the fuss was about and it was pretty chill. Chill vibes in there.

So, then I woke up the next day. My outfit had arrived, so I put that on, ready to show that girl at Pebble Plaza who is the fashion icon in Paleo Pines (it's me, spolier alert). And when I arrived, she wasn't …there… so I was looking around for her and I saw this other guy and he was in a full monotone blue outfit and I was like right, okay, I'll just never be fashion so that's - that's really sad.

got so many compliments on my outfit as a tortured poet/grammys '24 look

the accessibility was ace - stadium had a special platform on the floor so I could still see above the crowd but was on the floor right in the thick of it

traded SO MANY friendship bracelets like wow

seeing this regular looking guy with grey hair and glasses walk right past the platform, doing a double take and realising wait... that's scott swift

sabrina's flawless vocals on hopelessly devoted to you

having a girl come up to me and say she'd just started reading my book + another being like 'are you hannah? I love your work. can we take a photo?' like I have fans at the eras tour???

basically only needing the screen to see taylor's facial expressions

the little girl on her dad's shoulders so she could see during cruel summer

the light up bracelets being an absolute rainbow during yntcd, looking around and thinking 'wow, I hope this feels like a safe space for my lgbtqia+ friends, you are so loved'

the absolute grace of the dancers during lover

taylor getting emotional during marjorie

the champagne problems applause somehow being louder than the night before and taylor's genuine wonder at it

the sheer beauty of the purple speak now and pink folklore dresses

kam saying "tell him he's dreamin'" - a line from an iconic cult aussie movie called 'the castle'

making eye contact and passionately singing all too well to and with a red frogs volunteer (an organisation here in australia that focuses on safety and wellbeing at large events'

View from the Ground – Louis Tomlinson – Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, CT – 5/26/23

Simone and I bought the tickets the day they went on sale back in November. Nose Bleeds. But it was the best we could get that day. The same day we bought tickets for Nashville and Boston (coming in July). We couldn’t quite believe one of our local shows was the tour kick off.

The day before the show, Simone got an alert about a flash sale for tickets in a lower section for $29/ticket. Easy decision…we upgraded.

Because we had seated tickets, we were able to be relaxed about entry—which was nice. We had a nice meal, and casually walked into the venue and lined up to buy merch.

It was fun to see fellow fans--some dressed to the nines, some in Louis!Cosplay, some already decked out in merch.

The Snarls came on right at 7 p.m., followed by the Academics. Both sets were good, about half an hour each. And then, at about 9:10 p.m. local time, Louis took the stage for the opening night of his 2023 Faith in the Future World Tour.

He was magical. The stage is bigger, more screens, slicker production. The curtain with the smiley face is gone. The man strides out with confidence in himself and his band. He has a swagger that hides any nerves he might feel--and he did say he'd been nervous, but you wouldn't know it by appearance.

We went to both Boston and Washington, DC in 2022, and the vibe overall is different (at least at this first show). The crowd is more *dressed* -- cosplay, costumes, hats, a few boas, bralettes and short skirts. On the one hand I love that people take the time to plan an outfit to go out—on the other hand, I sort of miss the casual look of last year’s shows. Also, far fewer pride flags. I mean, a fraction of what we saw in Boston and DC last year. Not sure if that will change as the tour progresses, but I hope it does. There was one hanging over the balcony and a few waving in the crowd, but at Boston last year it was virtually the whole crowd waving flags.

We hadn’t seen the leaked set list prior to the show, so we were surprised at each of the songs we hadn’t expected him to play. In particular, I loved She is Beauty, We are World Class, which is one of my favorites. The rainbow lights for that song made it clear to me that he’s beginning to embrace his LGBTQ icon status.
