IM SORRY IF THE ENDING SUCKS AUGHHHH

part two of my last story here

c/w: she/her pronouns, implied child experimenting/employee experimenting ig, bigger bodies initiative snatches five kids and two adults (not clickbait), rushed ending

I tired my best to included the kids before they got turned into the smiling critters but AUGHHH

everyday was the same routine: wake up at six in the morning, freshen up, put on her work uniform, stick a breakfast sandwich in her mouth, kiss her mom goodbye, make her way to work, and get into the parking lot of playtime co. at around 6:45.

she wishes the playcare was more easily accessible, going from the toy train to the cart-ride while listening to the same automated introduction to playcare was starting to become irritating.

she basically had that whole thing memorized by now.

she sits in the trolly seat, looking out the tinted windows to the vast emptiness of the underground around them. why would they built this whole thing underground anyway? she even heard one employee share the same thought as her, she wonders if these kids even know of the outside world anyways.

these past few weeks have been the same, except a lot more children seemed to get adopted more. which is weird because she and the other employees around her never gotten informed when each kid would be picked up.

what’s even more weirder was that the kids never talked about getting adopted either. and these kids could not keep anything a secret.

even when she had to keep up with the rules of not interacting with the children, they just seemed to tell her and the other caretakers nearly everything that happened in their secluded lifestyle.

timothy was one of them. a hyper kid, always seemed to be getting some bumps or bruises (she started keeping a package of bandages after the third time he scrapped his knee), and never knew how to keep a secret.

he would run to of her, stop suddenly and give his one missing tooth smile, and point to some random kid saying, “they have a crush on that kid!” and run off with some other kids chasing after him, yelling incoherent nonsense about how he’s a ‘tattletale’ or something like that.

it was funny to watch, she would give a small smile as she watched the boys play fight, the girls act out some fairytale adventure, or some of the more reclusive kids either draw or play with toys to themselves.

timothy played with this girl, layla, who was just as hyperactive as he was. she was one of the rougher girls, but she loved secretly playing dress up with a few of her dolls she had in her shared room.

she remembered the little freckled girl pointing at her when she told her that ‘tippity top secret’, her cheeks puffed out and saying she better not tell anyone about her ‘soft side’.

kids were funny in many ways.

she remembered timothy sulking a bit when layla was adopted, pouting and sitting on the fake grass.

they hung out almost everyday, it was pretty sad to see him so bummed out over losing his best friend. she managed to sneakily talk to him about it, giving him words of comfort on how he’ll probably see her real soon.

that slightly made him perk up, especially when she slipped a small candy to him and put a finger to her mouth in a shushing motion. he giggled and gave his little grin, “maybe when I get adopted, me and layla can play all day long again!”

she hoped that was the case, as three days later, timothy was gone from the playcare.

she can’t help but feel a jab in her heart when the kids she talks to leave to get adopted. they were all so sweet and fun to watch and talk too.

especially two little girls who took decided they wanted to sit where she was watching the kids play.

delilah was this shy girl who spent most of her time drawing with markers, glitter, crayons and colored pencils. she would sit in the same spot theo sat before he left, silently drawing or politely asking for more colors.

the next girl was sophie, and that kid was a hugger. she would come to her everyday, her braids having different colorful clips then before, and give her leg a big hug.

she would babble on and on about how her school day was, seemingly never ending as the kid always had something to talk about. she would pick at the jewelry on the caretakers hands, asking where she had got it from and if she could get her one like that.

sophie would also talk to delilah too, and would join her on drawing whatever their little hearts desired.

the day delilah ran to her with pure excitement, was the same day she was destined to leave the playcare.

she was the only one that told the playcare employee that she was getting adopted. she excitedly talked the whole time she was there, explaining on how lovely the couple sounded when she heard of them. that was probably the most she ever heard her talk.

after delilah left, sophie hung around her a lot more, becoming more clingy when she had to leave.

she had to always reassure her that she was going to come back the next day. even when the kid latched onto her leg like a koala, she couldn’t fight back the smile on her lips.

sophie would always make her pinky swear she was going to come back. children and their ways of reassurance was always so cute.

she would lock pinkies with her, shaking them and giving the same repeated promise. sophie would look at her for a second, before smiling and hugging her tightly, saying how she can’t wait to see her the next day.

was this becoming a pattern?

each kid she interacted with was gone in the same couple of weeks. she was teased a bit by her other employees that she was cursed, but she jabbed back with how they were all in better homes anyway.

she remembers the last one, she never interacted with her as much as the other kids, but the girl was always holding some type of snack in her hands.

little percilla was always eating something, an apple, pb & j, she would always have some type of food on her face.

each of those kids had their own distinct personalities, and each made her heart ache even more when she never sees them in the playcare.

she gives a small sigh, the underground outside the windows no longer fascinating as it was the first three times.

the five minute way there felt like forever, the carts top speed seemed like five miles, so she decided to check her little phone for any new messages.

a few texts from her friends, her mom asking what should they eat for dinner, and exactly none from jean since two weeks ago.

she didn’t know why it hurt when jean stopped messaging her. maybe that new promotion took up all of his time? she didn’t see much of sean either, so she guessed that could be the case.

she didn’t want to bombard him with messages either, so she hadn’t text back since the last text he sent her.

she closed the phone and puts it in her pocket once he heard the end of the automatic announcement that played in the cart, the ride coming to a full stop.

she gets up and stretched her body, stepping out into the playcare as she makes her way to the consolers office to check in. the playcare was empty, except for a few employees here and there. the kids must be asleep still.

she pushes a strand of hair back, fixing any wrinkles in her clothes and pushes forth, hopefully to get some work done before she has to be out to watch the-

“Hello there!” that scream definitely didn’t come from her, that was definitely someone else.

she spun around to see who decided on scaring the ever living life out of her, but she was met with twelve feet of-what is that?

she stumbled back, nearly losing her footing and quickly regaining it, hands gripping her chest to calm herself as she looked up at the face.

the orange dog bent down slightly, a friendly smile on his face, “woah there, friend, I didn’t mean to knock you off your feet,” he spoke, the young women pushing her hair out of her face and sputtering out, “dog…..dogday?” she whispered, blinking in confusion.

she could see out of the corner of her eye his tail wagging, “yeah! that’s me! it’s nice to meet you….?” he drags out the sentence, waiting for her to finish with her name.

she stays silent with a confused look on her face before stuttering out her name.

he repeats it with joy, grabbing her hand and shaking it with excitement, “oh it’s so nice to meet you! I’ve just about said hi to every employee here and I’ve gotta say, you look amazing on this fine day-“ she let the dog ramble on while continuing to shake her hand, still staring at him in amazement.

the main question ringing in her mind: ‘how?’

and the other one: ‘why?’

she wasn’t unaware of elliot ludwigs determined goal to make the best toys, but even then….this seemed out of the realm of possibility for anyone to achieve.

the giant hand that shook hers felt soft, plush, and almost humanly warm. he even spoke so much like a person, making her think this was some guy in a suit.

but why was he so tall? he stands taller then everyone in this place! and the tail wagging behind him just made it so….realistic.

after about a full two minutes of handshaking and rambling, dogday finally let’s go of her hand (which her whole arm is now numb at that point) and waved a hand in front of her face.

“hello? you still in there, friend?” he asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.

she blinked once, before clearing her throat, “uh…..barely.” she spoke, rubbing her arm as she backs away, “I…..gotta clock in.”

the hound tilts his head, before walking with her, “I’ll tag along, I’m not technically supposed to be out here anyway,” he waved his hand around nonchalantly, “but I wanted to say hi to everyone before the kids wake up.” he gave his cartoony smile.

she shook her head, giving him an awkward grin, “oh no, it’s fine, you can do-“

a large, purple tail wrapped around her legs, going softly around before she was face to legs with another 12 foot animal.

catnap, she remembered the name, looked down at her with a silent stare, tilting his head to look at her.

he pressed his face near hers, giving it a sniff before pulling away, and turning towards the orange dog.

“catnap! I’ve seen you met my new friend!” he exclaimed, tail seemingly wagging faster. the purple cat stayed silent for a moment, before nudging his head in a different direction.

a playful groan came from dogday, “come on, I was just trying to walk my friend to the office to get checked in!” he pressed his big hand to his chest, playfully puffing or out, “as the leader, it’s my duty to greet and help anyone I come across.”

catnap just tilts his head, still not saying anything as his tail moves to press him towards the direction he came from.

she watched as he had a one way conversation with the cat, giving them an awkward laugh as she waved her hand, “it’s fine, really, you guys should go, don’t…..want to get in trouble do you?”

they both turned towards her, both in silence before dogday nods, “only if you say so, friend” he smiles and waved at her, “I’ll see you in a bit, then!” he turned to walk away, his tail still wagging happily behind him.

catnap lingered on for a moment, staring at her silently.

she smiled and waved at him, “I’ll see you in a bit too, catnap.”

she turned to walk towards the counselors office, glancing at the time and noticing the kids will be awake in ten minutes. well, the paper work was going to have to wait then.

watching as she walked into the office, catnap stared at the spot she was at for a moment longer.

he then stretched his back, and turned around were his orange friend walked to wait for the kids to wake up.

Idk if you know but Izutsumi is actually 17. It's not stated in canon but it's in the adventures guide so

oh huh i had no idea... i know falin must be 20 cause laios said hes 23 and im p sure they are 3 years apart, and laios said tallmen/humans however u wanna call them reach adulthood at 16 but idk if he meant his country or the race as a whole, so im not sure if that makes izutsumi a minor or not? also idk if it changes due to her being beastkin?

i mean ofc from our perspective she would be, but this is a fantasy setting w different ages of maturity, for example chilchuck said halflings reach adulthood at 14, due to their shorter lifespans, im just curious if for izutsumi adulthood would also be 16 like laios or if maybe eastern standards in the world of dunmeshi is different?

If it's the same, while she's not a minor that is still a three year age gap for izutsumi and falin, with izutsumi barely being an adult, add to that the fact idk how old marcille is or when she wouldve reached adulthood, i can see ur concern.

ill leave them out due to the blurred lines there, but in general i think its important to remember fantasy people dont necessarily age the same way we do, if beastkin age anywhere as fast as halflings, at 17 izutsumi would be older than a 17y/o tallman. thats all hypothetical ofc, and not really an attempt to justify the age difference, more so genuine curiosity about how ages work for her since idk if thats established? im still shocked a 29y/o halfling is old enough to have 3 adult kids for example, but then again they live an average of 50 years so it makes sense? I think the differences are really interesting! because despite only being 6 years apart, chilchuck is inherently a lot older than laios due to their racial traits and customs. Laios is a young adult and chilchuck is more like a middle aged man. Meanwhile, to Senshi and Marcille, 29 sounds like a baby, which means a 29y/o elf or dwarf would probaably be perceived by their own race as younger than even laios is to other tallmen, if that makes sense? at 30 smth senshi was treated like a kid by an older dwarf, maybe thats equivalent to their teens?

Now im just rambling though, i know that's not what the ask was about, it just had me wondering. In a context like this age can be more than a number due to racial traits and lifespans, but since izutsumi is probably closer to a human and idk if beastkin age differently or not, i'd agree that shes quite young especially compared to marcille who's probably a bit older than falin herself (well shes a lot older by literal decades but i imagine only a bit older if you consider elves probably reach adulthood a lot later which likely means marcille is a young adult herself?)

i also havent finished the manga so its difficult to form more concrete opinions on the matter but i hope i explained myself well? i do very much think a 17 year old in real life is a child, i was just rambling about this fantasy world and wondering how different things might be. if their 16 is our 18 then their 17 is our 19 and their 20 is our 22. I dont remember how mature I was at 19 but as a 22y/o i dont think id have felt comfortable dating someone 3 years younger personally? i still dont tbh

oh wow i scrolled back and realized i rambled too much im sorry about that its just my brain is full of dunmeshi!! still, let me know if i misunderstood the age mechanics of this story! Regardless, ill leave them out, thanks for letting me know!

He would be watching so confused and concerned when he sees you yelling at some random lady.

You explained to him what Karens are and how she is one.

Not even for a min, he would be full on defending you from whatever this Karen accused you of.

He mostly would have to drag you away from her since she's an adult.

But if she has brought her daughter/son or whatever and they both were messing with, you best believe some violence is going down.

Especially If the Karen or her kids tries to harm you in anyway.

Kyle would be trying to comfort you at the time while trying to get you to calm down.

Definitely terrified at you yelling at a lady and her son/daughter.

While you were arguing with the Karen, the daughter/son tried to mess with Tweek which ended in them trying to steal his coffee.

He let out a little scream before pushing them back in self defense, trying to protect his coffee from them.

The Karen saw that and immediately reverted her attention away from you and marched over to Tweek who was shaking even more violently than before.

"WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE TO PUSH MY SON/DAUGHTER LIKE THAT YOU LITTLE BLONDE FREAK!"

"AHH! Y/N, I WANNA GO HOME!"

You sensed fear in Tweek as he said that.

"IM TALKING TO YOU! DON'T IGNORE-" You pushed the Karen away from Tweek and picked him up in bridal style.

"C'mon Tweek, let's get away from here before things get any worse..." You gave him a quick peck on the lips before running off.

× Later at night ×

You made yourself some hot chocolate tea or whatever kind of tea/drink you like.

You saw Tweek lying down in your couch zoning out while having his coffee on the side table next to the couch.

"Tweek? is something wrong?"

You sat your (favorite tea/drink) on the other side table and cuddled under the blanket with Tweek.

"Y/n...I have been ACK! thinking about what happened today..who was that person to be exact?"

He stared at you bluntly while waiting for an answer.

"They called those people Karens, they make a huge deal out of everything..."

"W-what was she yelling at you for in the UGH! first place?"

"Well, the last time I encountered her was when she wanted to force me off the bench even though I clearly was there first and I offered to share it with her but she started yelling at me. So It's kinda surprising that I meet her again while I'm with you"

"So she gave you a hard time back then..?"

"Yeah, but don't worry about it...I'm fine..."

"Y-you don't sound like you are..." You stayed silent while looking away from Tweek.

With a blink of an eye, he wrapped his arms around you and pulled you closer to him. This gave you a surprise.

"Tweek?" You were now making eye contact with him again.

"Ack...I'm just trying to make you feel a little better...."

"I'm usually the big spoon you know.." You smirked while playing with Tweek's cheek.

"Is it a bad thing that I'm trying to be the big spoon then?"

Remember that episode where she got a teacher executed?

She won't hesitate to get rid of the Karen/Kevin If they continue to mess with you and her.

It's a very heated argument whenever the Karen is arguing with Wendy instead of you.

The argument was pretty bad If It had gotten everyone around the area to stop what they were doing and look.

You or somebody gotta stop this before the argument turns into something else worse.

If the Karen does manage to slap or hit you directly. Expect her to appear dead on the news the next morning.

If you ask Wendy about it, she would look at you and give you a gentle smile.

Oh good lord.

This marshmallow boy is mass confused, concerned, and frustrated.

Similar to Kyle, he rather not start any drama since the Karen is an adult.

Being Randy's son, he probably might accidentally get into an argument with her or the son/daughter If the Karen has any.

Randy hears about the news and starts bugging you and Stan about it often ;-;

You both will just mainly have to avoid running into that Karen If you want Randy to stop talking about it 😑😐

But anyways, similar to Kyle he will also defend you from whatever the Karen accuses you about too.

If you end up getting in a fight with the daughter/son, he is gonna be surprised while watching from a safe distance.

If you win, but ended up getting hurt in the progress. He might give you a little pep talk, but brushes it off after before grabbing the med kit.

He will later on pepper your face with kisses If you're still not feeling good. 💙💙💙💙💙<3

Sakura Haruno w/sleep deprived/insomniac reader (sorry if there is a better wording than this)

Sakura is technically a doctor so i think she's more than suited to help you with your sleeping problems mostly and stress!!

She's the first to scold you when you obviously way too caught up in studying. Worried that you're spending too much time with your books/computer/notes, she might steal them and place them somewhere else for a little while.

Sakura also convinces you to chill out for a while. She'll make you your favorite drink, maybe a snack while she's at it. You'll cuddle, maybe watch an episode or two of your favorite show, just something to keep you off of studying.

Sakura already knows that you'll ace your exams, so you need to take a break. Relaxing is just as important as retaining information!!

She gets super worried when she finds that you're having difficulty sleeping. Especially when it starts affecting your daily life, just this morning she saw you try to pour a glass of water into an upside down glass!

Luckily, your wonderful, smart, girlfriend has figured out a solution or two!

Her first solution is to fix your sleeping schedule. Pulling you out of where you studying at and getting you to go to bed at normal times. This might take a couple of tries, maybe a few days or so? But your sleeping schedule will be fixed through her persuasion of cuddles and maybe a few kisses.

Sakura second solution is to maybe try melatoin. She knows it might not work but she wants to atleast try. If they work, then she'll be super happy! This will help fix your sleep schedule way faster!

I think overall, Sakura is gonna encourage you to study as much as you can, but she doesn't mean ruin your sleep schedule or even getting stressed out over exams. She knows that you can ace your exams and you can always ask her to help you.

Anetra is a massage therapist willing to do her neighbor a favor. After all, it's clear that Marcia needs to let her mind drift elsewhere, and she has just the magic touch to get her there. “If you’re not out of bed in five minutes, I’m coming in there and dragging your ass out,” Luxx warned her roommate through the door.

“I’d like to see you try!” Marcia shouted, though muffled from being under the covers. She then remembered that Luxx was more than likely capable of following through if she tried. “Ugh, fine.” She haphazardly threw her legs over the side of the bed and forced herself to stand up. After running a hand through her hair, she caught sight of herself in the mirror and knew her friend would chew her out for being in the same oversized t-shirt for the fourth day in a row. Instead, the shirt was swapped out for the first tank top and pair of shorts she found before finally exiting the room. “See? I’m alive.”

Luxx wasn’t pleased and her concern lingered. It was clear the blonde hadn’t gotten out of bed to do anything but use the bathroom and get snacks. “Barely,” she retorted as she looked her up and down before her expression softened to one of sympathy and she led her to sit with her on the couch. “Marsh, I’m starting to worry about you.”

“I’m going to be fine,” Marcia assured, though she knew their friend wasn’t convinced, especially when she followed up with, “I just lost almost everything I held dear with no safety net to fall on and am now doubting every decision I’ve made in my adult life. Also, my head hurts.”

“I know, I know. No one is trying to minimize your pain, your feelings are valid. But this isn’t healthy for you, babe.” She took her hand and squeezed it reassuringly, “I want you to go across the hall and see Anetra. She’s a massage therapist who owes me a favor.”

Marcia sputtered in disbelief that Luxx would even suggest such a thing. “Anetra? As in the unfairly hot neighbor that I can’t make extended eye contact with? You want me to see her looking like this?”

“Well, you could shower first.”

She realized that Luxx must have already spoken to Anetra, so she was left with little choice. “Y’know, self-care is usually more consensual,” she huffed as she got up and retrieved a change of clothes from her room before going into the bathroom.

By the time she was knocking on Anetra’s door, she’d deemed themself presentable — a clean t-shirt and shorts, hair brushed back into a ponytail, and the shower had brought life and color back into her face. But when Anetra opened the door, she instantly recognized concern in her expression and filled right back up with doubt. “Um… hey. I guess Luxx told you I was coming over, so.”

Anetra ushered her inside, explaining, “She debriefed me on your situation, and I feel so bad that you’re going through all that, so, since I’m able to help, it only made sense to offer.”

“I appreciate it,” she said sincerely, though she sat awkwardly perched on her couch. She alternated between waiting for her to say something and trying to figure out something she could do to fill the silence. Normally, she didn’t mind silence, but being alone with her hot neighbor in her apartment had her mind racing too fast for coherent thoughts to form.

“So, I’ve turned the guest room into an at-home massage studio,” Anetra told her, “I have robes and towels and stuff, if you wanna go get ready, I’ll come in shortly.”

“Do I, um… undress? Like, completely?”

She shrugged. “That’s generally what’s expected, but do whatever’s most comfortable to you.”

Marcia nodded and took the robe, then let herself into the other room. She took off her shirt and shorts, then hesitated. It wasn’t a matter of insecurity, but the thought of Anetra’s hands on her naked body was almost overwhelming. But that had to have been Luxx’s plan — to hit her with something so distracting that she would have no choice but to stop thinking about her pain. So, she bit the bullet and took off her bra and underwear as well, then put on the robe and sat on the massage table as she waited.

Anetra came in a few minutes later. “Go ahead and lay on your stomach,” she instructed as she dimmed the light and put on ambient music. She waited until Marcia was ready before asking, “lavender or eucalyptus? Lavender’s better for relaxing, but it’s kind of a divisive scent.”

“Lavender’s fine,” she answered. She was trying to focus on relaxing, but the moment she felt a pair of oiled-up hands on her back, her mind went blank and her body melted under her touch. Anetra’s hands were magical, ethereal. Marcia didn’t think her body had the capacity to be this at ease. And she stayed in the state of calmness until Anetra’s hands moved to her ass, which caused a spark of arousal to pulse through her. Embarrassed, she instinctively pressed her thighs together.

“Unclench,” Anetra gently instructed. “It’s normal to experience arousal. Don’t fight it, it’ll help release dopamine.”

Marcia was relieved she was laying face-down, as her face was now bright red. “Right, sorry,” she mumbled, willing herself to relax again and doing her best not to overthink.

And Marcia knew she was helpless to object, that it was clear Anetra knew what she was doing and not backing down, so she allowed herself to admit, “I want you to do it.”

“Good girl,” she cooed, which sent another wave of pleasure through Marcia’s body. She waited for her breathing to even back out before she continued to work her hands. At first, she continued the massage as before, then let her fingers dip between her thighs and trace along her slit. When she wasn’t met with resistance, she eased a finger into her and began slow, deep thrusts, twisting and curling it to see what got the best reactions out of her.

It was almost embarrassing how easily Marcia was reduced to whimpers and moans, her body doing everything it could to urge her on. But when she felt a hand press on her back, she realized she must have been squirming too much and forced herself to lay back down in as relaxed a position as she could manage.

Anetra rubbed her back reassuringly before shifting focus again. She eased in a second finger, thrusting and curling them in any way that elicited more of those pretty moans out of her. It wasn’t long before the blonde’s moans became sharper and higher. She felt her body tense under the hand on her back, then go limp. After a beat, she eased her fingers out. “How do you feel?” she asked as she washed her hands in the round basin sink.

“Better than I have in a long time,” she admitted, looking up when she realized Anetra was offering out a robe to her, which she graciously took and wrapped herself in. “Thank you so much, if there’s anything I can ever–”

“Don’t worry about it,” she cut her off with a gentle smile. “I’m glad I could help.” She leaned against the counter as she watched Marcia seem to come back down to earth, amused that she still seemed flustered. “That said, next time you want an ending like that, you gotta take me to dinner first.”

Hello! Saw your last post and got me thinking: What do you think Vace and Lin would be like as parents? I imagine that fatherhood wouldn't come to him as easily, but I think he would earnestly try to be better than both his parents 😁

oh yeah absolutely i think post therapy vace is a better dad than his family (low bar) and i think in therapy he has like the self awareness? to try and push past that

actually therapy vace is very fun in general bc like. i think one of vace's qualities regardless of therapy is how he pushes himself to be The Best it's just like a reframing of what The Best is u kno. there's a reason his cards are vace's confidence u kno. and that confidence is in some ways genuinely earned like!!! he IS the best soldier on the helio!!! like!!!! he has all those awards and he's very smart and like. it makes sense!!!

but then he goes to therapy and he starts like. reframing some of his stuff re:being Good and like what it means to be not just Good At Things but a Good Person and like. thats so much more difficult for him u kno in ways that other stuff wouldnt necessarily be. esp bc a lot of the stuff involved is like, him moving to be more vulnerable and show weakness and forgive ppl and those are not things he's good at naturally which is like. just very fun wwww

the reason i bring this up re:his parenting: i dont think he'd want to be a parent until he's really dealt with a lot of the worst of his shit. he mentions this in his 100 right: he's aware his whole thing comes from his dad who he has an IMMESNELY complicated rship w/. (i say this bc like. in his 50 he mentions hating his dad right. and yet he still has a picture of him u kno. lmfao. god) i dont think he'd ever want to subject his kids to what he went thru. i think he's aware of what he's done and how much worse he could've been u kno. the monster under the bed is who he is without sol

and even then it still takes work u kno. this comes up in the endcards abt how on his worst days he's still just like he was and how it takes times to break past that and find someone to meet him halfway. i have him meet lin when he's like early 30's bc i really do think it takes him a Long Fucking Time to hit a point like that. a lot of relationships. u kno. takes Work. takes time.

BUT THE POINT OF THIS.... to answer your actual q..........

i do actually think vace is a pretty good dad in these circumstances! i think he's protective and caring and i think in context w/rship with lin especially where he's got a partner that's good at reframing issues from "you versus me" to "you and me against the problem" it helps him get in that mindset with kids as well u kno.

i think tho in some ways he's better w/them when they're little GLKHSDLKGH i think he might be a bit overprotective when theyre older. i am shy talkign abt lin but im even shyer talking abt the fankids i made for them but i DO think its immensely funny for him to have his daughter hit adolescence and be like. ok im not calling u daddy anymore. and not bc she's embarrassed abt being a daddys girl or antying she just needs him to realize shes practically an ADULT NOW (vace meanwhile is there like. you are Not an adult jesus christ)

ok thats the serious analysis now here is my stuff thats for Me (sparkle emojis) ive talked abt this with alm before and in some ways i think vace is the parent the kids rely on for most every day stuff bc i do think he spoils his kids a little u kno. daughter shows up asking for a snack and he Prepares something for her meanwhile lin is like (gets smth preprepared from the fridge or tells her to wait for mealtime) takes them shopping teaches them to tie their shoes all that kind of stuff u kno

lin meanwhile is like...... practical wwww ive talked abt this in other places but he has difficulty with people sometimes bc of his augment. he's not great at comforting tbh! i think if the kids are upset adn htey want hugs abt it they go to vace. lin tho i think is the parent they turn towards for more serious stuff? bc vace despite everything still is very emotional while lin is very Not that u kno. so they can be like. uh. papa. ive fucked up. and lin is like (guy whose response to literally Everyhting is How Do We Fix This) How Do We F

in some ways as well i think the kids and lin grow closer as they get older. not to say i think they necessarily grow Away from vace but the way you interact w/small kids versus when u interact w/older ones means i think vace would do better w/the really younger ones while there'd be a bit of disconnect btwn them and lin until they're older u kno. lin is bad at mirroring and coddling and part of the thing abt his rship w/vace is it does help him get better at dealing w/other ppl w/strong emotions, part of that also relies on vace understnading that lin is trying u kno. and that's not a capacity kids really have at such young ages?

overall tho. i do think they are pretty good parents wwwww vace does hover too much but lin i think helps him dial it back wwww and lin struggles more at first but he gets there. their kids i think grow up well! and that's what matters!

oh, they definetly meet eachother! i have a few ideas on how this happens(some more serious than others), but it definetly happens after the war is over(im not sure how excatly stuff goes down but galra lost and allura lives... and haggar is alive too cause Buddy and the others deserve to yell at her)

first im gonna quickly explain how they get off that planet: so basically Eenek(the galran kid)'s parent(dad?) thought they died in a "terrible accident" years ago, but after the war ended he went there in hopes he'll recover the body. he WAS NOT expecting to find his child alive and taken care of by a bunch of strange people who look susiciously like that black paladin guy.... but he agrees to take them all out of here and lets them live on his ship!(im skipping over so much stuff here) he knows who they are and doesnt give a shit cause they saved Eenek.

when Shiro and The Guys meet, theyve been living a relatively normal life for like a year or two already, hiding their origins and trying to assimilate into society. theyre doing great! ....... shiro isnt.

he feels out of place, hes been trough hell and really didnt expect to live trough it all, but he did and he has a long life ahead of him, so he should be happy, right? everyone else is moving on, his friends all have someone to lean on, but adam's dead and we never see shiros family(maybe they appear in the last two seasons? i havent watched them), so hes alone. hes stuck in the past, hes stuck as The Black Paladin Of Voltron, but no one needs voltron anymore except for parades and signing autographs.

and then, somehow, shiro meets these other versions of him, and they all moved on and made a new life for themselves..... he envies them, but he also wants to learn how they did it. he knows theyre not really him, and hes happy for them, he really is, they achieved something he cant - but its definetly bittersweet.

they all react diffrently to meeting shiro(oh god this is gonna be so long)

tashi feels like hes not living up to shiros greatness. he saved the universe, for fucks sake! if they have the same genes, then why cant he be such a good leader? what is wrong with him? is he broken?(he isnt!!! hes just fucking stupid sometimes) but he also sees how much shiro struggles and wants to help(maybe he sees him as family?)..... even if its awkward

soup knows exactly what shit shiro's been trough and she has a lot of respect for him. she treats him a bit like an old friend. shiro was a bit weary of her at first beacuse she can be very menacing, but its really comforting to both of them to finally have someone whos been trough the same hell. and of course she showed him her rock collection

buddy wants to hate shiro. he(they? ive been playing w/ the idea of buddy using they/he) spent years distancing themself from voltron as a whole and painstakingly building a new life, and now the manifestation of their past is just standing there- buddy doesnt really see shiro as a person(oh, the irony), just as a ghost, a shadow of what they used to be, and it feels awful.

i havent really talked about pal(placeholder name why is naming characters so hard) yet but he i think he feels similiar to both soup and buddy, since he remembers a lot from his time with the galra but also was an early 'prototype', so seeing the thing he was supposed to be makes him uneasy. hes overall shy and nervous so i think in the beggining he just silently stared at shiro for a really long time.

the fact taks(placeholder name, goddamnit) is trans makes her very uncomfortable with shiro. hes nice and friendly, especially to her and the other kids(taka, eenek and to a lesser extent pal, who is a lot younger than the other adults), but he is who she thought she was for a while(like buddy!) and its not great for her gender dysphoria. also, seeing someone so similiar to her family and yet so other doesnt help

taka(placeholder name-) grew up listening to buddys stories about voltron and he heavily idolises shiro. for him being a clone is cool - who wouldnt want to be related to the great Takashi Shirogane? shiro sees this 11 year old kid who has his whole life ahead of him and it reminds him why he became a paladin in the first place - so kids like taka will have happier lives, so they dont have to go trough what he had to. i think its safe to say taka aquired a cool new uncle that day

jesus fuck this was a lot, and im pretty sure theres more somewhere in my brain, but thats enough for now

+ like OUGH. Maya Miles bestie hours.. I think, particularly early on wrt him n Phoenix reconnecting, he can be.. not more GENUINE per se, but he certainly puts less pressure on himself to try and hit some like. ideal the way he does w Phoenix. and not even necessarily consciously, but like, Maya doesn’t have this idealized childhood savior version of him propped up in her head.

and this is like, Me Projecting bc hey I can do that :3 but I’ve started trying 2 like. give myself more space to actually BE nonverbal when im overstimulated instead of forcing myself to maintain verbal communication— and I think Maya knows sign language from her childhood with Mia (Mia figuring out quickly that it was a good way for them to communicate if/when Maya went non-verbal— and Mia probably being the only person she felt comfortable signing with bc, well, she’s so bubbly and outgoing and really, she can’t POSSIBLY be non-verbal, they all know the moment she TRIES she’ll be talking their ears off!! So Maya forces herself to talk around the adults and signed with Mia).

and her recognizing overstimulation in Miles before he’s even really giving himself the space to recognize it himself— coming over to annoy him because he NEVER visits Phoenix and she gets it but she MISSES him and… stopping when she sees the way his shoulders hunch and his fingers clench around his pen and he’s staring pointedly at the papers on his desk because he’s been TRYING to focus, trying to force himself to function like a NORMAL adult (except not really; he’s aiming for Von Karma standards whether he wants to admit it or not and that’s not exactly normal). Maya gently tapping the desk to get him to look and signing, and the mixture of relief and sheer confusion when he realizes she’s providing accommodations he’d never admit to needing while also having absolutely no idea what she just said.

That first evening passes with Maya signing while speaking softly, and Miles writing his responses on a spare notepad, but slowly he learns more and more from her until he’s practically fluent too— they can spend a whole evening conversing about the chaos of the legal world and the equally chaotic reworks to Steel Samurai lore without ever saying a word out loud, and those are moments Miles always treasures

(and, when Phoenix stops him one night when he’s particularly overstimulated, clumsily signing “it’s okay, Maya’s teaching me” Miles feels so grateful to know her that he could, possibly, cry. He admits to nothing, but he does text her that she’s his favorite person in the world. She quickly responds “we both know that’s actually Nick, but ily2 ^u^” and it’s definitely one of those moments where it hits him that he Has A Family Now, For The First Time In Years)

ALSO Maya feels very much like the kind of person to say “I love you” very liberally. Especially because of how young she lost Mia + feeling like she didn’t let her sister know enough, even if her feelings are complicated. so I’m sure you can imagine the sort of (very hushed) gossip that goes around whenever people catch Maya leaving (Miles giving her a one armed hug and unable to stop himself from smiling a little even as he TRIES to glower intimidatingly at his subordinates while Maya exclaims “okay BYE Mr. Edgeworth LOVE YOU!! Good luck in court, you better come to game night!!!”)

(he does, of course, come to game night)

(Maya has definitely channeled a spirit to win at LEAST twice and they have yet to decide if it counts as cheating or not since technically it’s not looking up an answer!! but also it is kinda looking up an answer.)

+ lastly ok I’ve probs talked abt this before but I do like the idea that they maintain the sort of silly rivalry they start with but more in a “if you turn my brother into even MORE of a fool you WILL face my wrath, Phoenix Wright” “pffft yeah right, Maya will never let you live it down if you break out the whip at dinner on Saturday” “…I will exact my revenge in other, more subtle ways.”

She sends him a Top Ten Scariest Things Caught On Camera compilation at three in the morning one night (thank you different time zones, she loves being in a different time zone) and he texts back “I hate you >:(“ but they are both laughing. There’s no one he would trust to take care of Maya more than her and there’s no one she would trust to care for Miles more than him.

Also I’ve DEF talked abt it from Phoenix’s POV (texting her at night to confirm Maya’s safe when he has nightmares about her being kidnapped/in danger) but Franziska ABSOLUTELY texts him every now and then like “Miles is there?” and Phoenix knows she would never outright admit to either him or Miles how much Miles’ “death” affected her. Asking if he’s there (safe, nearby, a phone call away) is as close they’ll get — Phoenix always responds as soon as he can (“yep, we’re making dinner!” or “he’s at his office, I’ll see him in forty minutes for lunch” or “he and Maya have a coffee date, you can double check with her but I wouldn’t wanna interrupt their Steel Samurai gossip session”)

She doesn’t always respond, but Phoenix gets it, and he’s always happy to let her know— he’s okay just getting a one-word (or sometimes one letter, if it’s super late for her) response about Maya, but he knows she needs more detail to put her mind at ease (Evidence is key, after all; you can’t build a perfect case without all the information) and he’s happy to provide

They definitely all have dinner together once a week (either just the four of them out at a restaurant, or their entire “family” at one of their houses— Miles and Phoenix, Trucy, Maya and Franziska, Klavier and Apollo, Pearl, Kay, Emma, Athena and Juniper, Simon if he’s feeling up to group interactions, Gumshoe and Maggie if they’re in town, even Larry sometimes). It gets hectic and usually they only get EVERYONE together for holidays, but all of them spent so long with nothing, losing everyone they loved, that having such an ABUNDANCE of connection really is something for them to revel in.

You and Kiba grew up together, learning how to fight together. You weren’t in his ninja team, but you were the same age as him and you became rivals. It was always playful and just to hone your skills, but as time went on, Kiba was falling in love with you. He couldn’t hide his feelings anymore.

You both were a little shy about your feelings. Most of the time, Kiba would be so timid when his feelings finally bubbled up inside of him. You weren’t kids anymore. You were adults and he was falling for you so hard. He didn’t know what to say.

So, it was actually Hinata and Shino who set you both up. They knew for so long that you and Kiba were crushing on one another, but that you were both now too timid to take it any further. Hinata made Kiba get you a gift and to ask you out, and Shino planned the whole date.

And the two of you had such a good time. It was like being a kid again, except you were falling in love with one another. It made you realize how much Kiba meant to you and how you had always been there for one another. Everything you did together made you realize that Kiba was the one for you.

Ever since that date, you’ve been inseparable. You and Kiba do everything together, and of course you were always a trio with Akamaru. Nobody could break a bond this strong. Kiba treats you so well, and Akamaru is very protective of you. You couldn’t ask for a better duo to love you.

Kiba is huge on just running around with you, training and taking long walks in the woods. He has a lot of energy and just wants to be able to spend time with you. He loves it if you want to take a walk in nature and have a picnic. Especially if you make his favorite foods.

Speaking of favorite foods, you and Kiba like to make treats in the kitchen. It’s always so much fun for the two of you to try a new recipe. And of course, you share with Akamaru when he’s allowed to have some as well. It’s a Sunday afternoon tradition for all three of you, just spending it in the kitchen and trying to cook some meals together.

Lots of naps together after running around in the woods. Kiba is the best nap buddy you will ever have. He’s warm, and he holds you in the best way possible. Akamaru acts as a huge pillow for the two of you, making nap time so special.

Kiba loves taking you out on dates. He loves to treat you like a princess. He wants you to feel like you are the only girl in the world. He spends lots of time with you and he will always compliment you on your outfits and your hair and makeup and he just absolutely loves to spoil you. He buys you the fanciest and prettiest things.

If either of you have to be away from one another because of missions, you keep in touch by sending each other letters. It makes you both feel a little more relieved and comforted. Kiba will always worry about you whenever you’re sent on a mission away from the village, but he always believes in you. He is your biggest supporter, no matter what.

Rough quickie while on a mission:

Kiba slams you against the tree, making you moan softly. He slaps a hand on your face, shushing you and making you so wet. You can see the fire in his eyes, and you know you’re going to have to be quiet. Kiba pulls your vest off and shoves your shirt up, placing it in your mouth. SO i just finished wonder egg priority and i think that with confidence i can say it has been one of my favorite animes like... ever ?? and not even from hyperfixation or obsession over it just... its so fucking real yet so simple in a way that i havent rlly seen shown in any other shows you feel ??

but first i wanna talk about how sexy the art and animation is real quick... HOMIE ITS SO GOOD LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT JUST... serotonin... the characters are all so unique and iconic and fun but not over the top in their designs yknow ??? they seem like regular every day girls but they stand out and theyre all sO CUTE !!!! also i love how the style is like this soft bubbly slice of life lookin stuff with bright happy colors and the most beautiful scenes you could find but they also have the SICKEST fight scenes complete with whimsical animal helpers and terrifying villains and crazy weapons unique to each character. and the animation. god DAMN shawty i am obsessed with everything in this show. i might make a post solely about the art later lol bc i wanna get into the other stuff.

so the themes in the show right ?? it starts just as this cute lil magical girl kinda deal but within the first episode we see that like.. oh damn... thats kinda heavy... tbh i was a little shocked and thought about stopping bc yknow bad mental health BUT i was so intrigued that i had to keep going and i am SO GLAD that i did. because this show just so beautifully discusses all these heavy topics in such an eloquent and artistically expressive way. and also like, , the juxtaposition of the charming childlike vibe with bright colors and 14 yr old girl protagonists against the dark themes of suicide and so much else,, i think is just perfect. bc a lot of heavy animes are more of the seinen genre and have some middle aged dude as a protag or make the entire color palette dim or offer little relief to the pain of these heavy themes right ?? but NO not wonder egg bitches B) because these problems arent just things that ppl face later in life or just problems that need to be talked about among adults or the edgy seinen watching squad,, these are REAL problems that face people of every age, gender etc and i think its awesome that wonder egg addresses that. some may cringe at the thought of their high schooler watching animes that discuss sexual harassment, suicide, abuse, self harm, eating disorders etc,, but in reality it is the most comforting thing i have ever come across and is basically jsut free anime therapy. because not only does wonder egg present these themes to the viewers as something real that happens to all kinds of people (making said people feel heard in a way that maybe they hadnt before), but it also makes sure to vanquish all of these forms of trauma. and the way the trauma is vanquished isnt always beautiful and it isnt always just magically gone with a poof. the struggles of overcoming or living with that sort of thing are shown in such a real and relatable way that addresses every hardship trauma survivors have to go through. and i just. god i cry bro.

oh m y GOD and the lgbtq+ rep in this show ?? like shawty... as soon as i saw episode one i was picking up on some gay/lesbian themes but then again im sapphic and project that a lot so i tend to see that sort of stuff like... everywhere... but NE WAYS... episode ten made me FUKCING CRY BRO LIke i cant believe there was a whole trans character with a whole trans pride hoodie like LKGHKDGH my heart is just so.. so fucking full thinking about him. bc like yeah i know there are trans characters in anime but i feel like theyre always very ambiguous about actually being trans or not or erased or portrayed as a harmful stereotype or theyre constantly misgendered and still refered to as their assigned gender at birth and i hate it. HOWEVEr... Kaoru.. *chefs kiss* it was so amazing to see a character straight up say “yeah im trans” in such a casual yet powerful way bc i personally have never seen that before. and i love love loved how he went into his backstory and talked to momoe about gender bc i think thats what she rlly needed and that it helped her find herself and it makes me so happy oh my god,, and the way they talked about it never seemed forced or like it was the focal point of his existence yknow ?? like yeah he existed to help momoe overcome some of her trauma but he also just existed to be HIM yknow ?? also... personally, i headcanon momoe as a trans girl even though i dont remember it being explicitly stated plus the school scenes of her and stuff would seem like they suggest otherwise ??but,,, SHAWTY THE AMOUNT OF SUBTEXT and her complicated relationship w gender is... something i feel like a cis girl would not go through so harshly yknow ?? with all of the questioning and feeling detached from femininity or feeling like ppl dont see her as an actual girl and only like her as a guy or for her masculine traits,,, but dont take my word on this bc i myself am a cis girl but that was just my take on it as someone in the lgbtq+ community trying to educate myself on the transgender community :) either way,, wonder eggs portrayal of momoe and kaoru and the way that momoe becomes so passionate about expressing herself the way she wants to as a girl is just... good lord im gonna cry its so perfect,,,.so ... i just love this show way too much. i also am honestly super lost about the relationship btwn acca and ura-acca ?? bc i was gonna mention ura-acca as a canonically gay guy bc when i was watching i interpreted ep 11 as him being in love with acca and being jealous of Azusa (bc i mean,, they lived together (i swear to god there was only one bed in that apartment) and had a daughter together and def loved each other and also when Frill said they were husbands and then when ura-acca said he wasnt attracted to azusa but he was def jealous of their relationship ??) but then i saw somewhere that theyre brothers ?? which would make sense ig since they look kinda similar and accas daughter called ura-acca “uncle”.. but at the same time its ANIME SO THEY ALL LOOK SIMILAR and referring to gay couples as siblings is an EXTREMELY common euphemism soooo... god this is so much longer than i planned it to be oops but i also love the theme about like.. relying on friends to help carry your weight but at the same time not becoming completely dependent on those friends and using their support to learn how to love yourself and rely on yourself yknow ?? bc that is exactly what healthy friendships look like. bc i think ai sort of had a codependency thing goin on with koito maybe ?? but now she has a whole squad of funky friends that are so so different but all struggle with different kinds of trauma and although they fight over it, they always get through it with each other together. and they push each other no matter what to be the best versions of themselves and they teach other that getting hurt is okay because theyre always gonna be there to pick up the pieces no matter what happens. they can give each other space when they need and adapt to meet each others needs but theyre always able to balance it out with their own needs and thats such a beautiful thing in friendships especially at their age like damn i wish i had that maturity when i was 14 but no all i had was depression. another thing is that through these friendships you get to see all the different sides of each girl; you get to see them being strong or a shining light to their friends when theyre hurting but you also get to see them being hurt and weak and allowing themselves to be on the receiving end of the comfort. their friendships allows them to have weaknesses but it also allows them to highlight their strengths and thrive off of each others. I LOVE FRIENDSHIP DUDE

next i wanna briefly mention some of the themes connected to suicide that ive noticed. a big one is the survivors guilt that ai feels once koito is dead. several times she screams that she wishes she couldve gone with koito and she dreams of a “perfect world” where they committed a double suicide. one of the main reasons for her troubles is that she blames herself for koitos death and feels like it should be her thats dead... but at the same time she feels like too much of a coward to do anything now that koito is gone. she just has all these complex and contradicting feelings that wear away at her in ways that ppl that havent gone through the suicide of a loved one could never imagine. a lot of the times when things like this are portrayed in media i feel like its more in a way thats meant to guilt trip those that have taken their own lives and paint suicide as this selfish sin thats unforgivable but... not only does wonder egg reject that idea and instead portray it as a heartbreaking tragedy with,,, so so many terrible reasons, but it focuses on the feelings of ai separate from koito without blaming her in any way. not once did i feel like the show antagonized koito or that ai blamed koito for doing any of this, but they simply mourned her loss and touched on ais reaction towards the event but separate from koito herself if that makes sense. and i think that discussing survivors guilt without painting koito as the bad guy is something so beautifully done in wonder egg that can really resonate with those that have lost a loved one to suicide and have struggled with these same things.

okay i think this is the last thing ill mention,,, but HOMIE THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE BIT AT THE END. I AM. OBSESSED. i am such a whore for anything about the multiverse okay n e ways...,, not only did this make a super epic trippy ending of season one and add a little bit more magical girl whimsy to the show,, but it had such a powerful message. from the perspective of og ai,, finding out that you killed yourself in another world is... i mean its definitely not a surprise but at the same time it rlly makes you think how close og ai herself couldve been to that point and what decisions led her out of that dark place in her life. if i were in her shoes i would be terrified and id cry bc the thought of going back to such a dark place and actually going through with something like that is my worst fear and probably something that ai fears too. but at the same time,,, think from the perspective of ai two !!! like yeah its true that theres this awful terrible version of ai that dies but theres also a whole version of ai that is a superhero magical girl fighting off monsters to save countless ppls lives !! and she has a badass lizard and a gang of awesome friends !!! at first i was worried that ai two would be jealous of og ai and compare herself to her and feel inferior but like.. THEYRE LITERALLY THE SAME PERSON AND CAPABLE OF THE SAME THINGS !!! and ai two realized that !! just within the span of one episode, she went from the version of ai who took her life,, to the version of ai jumping in front of a friend to take a bullet for them and save their life. and that just inspired THE SHIT OUT OF ME. i think that ai was sent another version of herself to sort of beat her own worst enemy yknow ?? those doubts and fears that shes no good or that shes that same bystander from episode one and that she hasnt changed at all. but getting to interact with her parallel self and see her grow was just what she needed to realize that while yeah sometimes the worst thing can happen and things can be terrible but on the other hand sometimes the most wonderful thing imaginable can happen because she has the power to do either.

so im gonna go ahead and stop rambling bc i got all my thoughts out that i wanted to for this post :D but yeah lol i might make another if i feel like it sometime. long story short: this show is perfect and it is going on my favorite of all times.

re: fumetsu no anata e as of chapter 139.2

this started as a response to @bestbonnist‘s post on chapter 139.2 but now i’m just dissecting differences and similarities between tonari, mizuha, and kahak like im writing an essay for a uni class. i interchangeably use he/they pronouns for fushi and my writing may be clumsy (bc im not actually writing for uni ❤️).

mizuha is a broken mirror to tonari (and kahak a foil to the two aforementioned) in this modern-day arc, especially in their expressions of love for fushi. tonari’s love for fushi is aged over hundreds of years and mizuha’s, at first glance, is an infatuation just based on how long they’ve known each other. im the biggest kahak stan ever, but even i understand kahak’s love started as an infatuation for parona’s form. though, i’d consider the word infatuation compromised when it comes to defining mizuha’s love, bc u cant be sure if her love for fushi is entirely her own, seeing as it had been passed from generation to generation of guardians.

(chapter 134, read right to left)

tonari and mizuha aren’t that different once you look deeply into the both of them. mizuha’s personality and actions are factors in tonari’s dislike of her, but what ultimately repels tonari from mizuha is that she knows they’re similar, and that manifests most clearly in how she reacts to fushi being with mizuha. i.e. resenting fushi for using her friends’ vessels to help their “love life” in chapter 135.5. she can’t stand mizuha bc mizuha is able to express her love for fushi and fushi does not reject (or accept) it; tonari still hasn’t fully admitted to herself that she likes fushi romantically (perhaps because she can’t separate it from the devotion that led her to harden her body to poisons and to promise her corpse to rest at fushi’s feet), so seeing mizuha appear to progress further than she has irritates her. as for kahak, tonari only has the biases of the other pseudo-immortals and her own of past hayase reincarnations to rely on. (this is not as plot-related, but these two also both like books. kahak read tonari’s fushi book, so i wish they actually met, but in a world where tonari didnt hate hayase beyond death.)

tonari as a child seemed like she thought herself superior to others, perhaps a natural result of her upbringing. she was raised on a prison island, but she herself never committed any crime; banding together w other kids like her, writing about her life in her book (which keeps her separate from or above others in a way). but this thinking ceases at her relationship w fushi. however, i believe this started before they even met. tonari’s childhood dream at seven years old was to write a book her father would be impressed by. she also used to believe in god, while her family was still whole. she even prayed to god when he decided to participate in the tournament in chapter 35. however, she stops referring to god by the time her father had shown tarnish. coincidentally, she meets fushi, who would “upend everything... jeannanda and [her] fate.” she ends up, instead of writing for her father, writing a book to allow a peaceful existence for fushi for whenever they decided to come back. this act shows that the adult tonari has written fushi to a level above her, out of her reach.

(chapter 35)

here i’ll quote ray’s words about kahak and tonari: “she also has a surprising amount in common with Kahaku, too, with the ‘I want to protect you even if you disagree.’” the way tonari had waited and honed her body for fushi resembles kahak’s attachment; she had finished living for herself, so now she was only allowing herself to live to further create an ideal vessel for fushi (which also brings up one of hayase’s goals). the difference is that kahak lived for fushi because, as raikkousaki said, fushi was the only thing he was “ALLOWED to live for.” however, while tonari is unquestionably devoted to fushi now, what pulled her to him was black hood’s coercion. as a result of black hood’s words to her, she manipulated fushi into helping her solve her problems, to save her from the island. this first “meeting” also revealed that she was attracted to their white hair; she later admits that she admires their fair skin, contributing to the idea that she could view fushi as the equivalent of a god or at the least, a vision of purity (which is :/ imo, bc of her dark skin). we should also keep in mind that, this, technically her first impression of fushi, and his later display of violent immortality in the arena would further his image as a “legend.”

mizuha was exposed to fushi’s immortality and reveres him like tonari and kahak respectively do and did. instead of the specific word “legend,” it’s “immortal monster.” her first formal exposure to fushi’s fabled power was not unlike tonari’s, since mizuha had went into her grandfather’s library and read on fushi in chapter 124.1. after this, she manipulates fushi to save her, again paralleling the beginning of tonari’s relationship with fushi, but it’s from her overbearing mother and herself. both tonari and mizuha forced their problems onto fushi, but mizuha doesn’t have black hood stepping in front of her saying “you must lead him.” instead, she may have been influenced by the left hand, but i believe mizuha’s thoughts are majorly her own (left hand lies in wait within mizuha’s consciousness like a predator), and what they appear to say is that she’s leading fushi until he decides to follow her willingly. as for kahak, we only have a few pages on his childhood and what we can make of it and of his actions as an adult is that he was willing to follow fushi wherever they went, until left hand betrayed them both.

mizuha’s superiority complex comes from a different place than young tonari’s; she was a prestigious child from young, in addition to her fear of her uniqueness fading as she aged. this caused her to feel separate from other children. when she meets fushi, she sees how different he is from everyone else and uses subtle ways to keep him with her, while never directly admitting she wants him to stay with her, except for ch 125′s “i’m scared. stay with me tonight,” after her mother’s sudden murder. she usually uses excuses instead, like cutely demanding fushi to walk with her after school and go on dates with her.

(chapter 36 vs. chapter 128.2)

as fushi was introduced to the people around tonari and mizuha, they received similar reactions, i.e. “your hair is so pretty!” and “woah, his hair is white!” in the pages following these, the similarities continue into tonari and mizuha gaining ownership over fushi: in ch 36 oopa declares “tonari found him. so he belongs to tonari,” while the islanders try to get on fushi’s good side, and in ch 128 fushi goes out of their way to ask which club mizuha belongs to when asked to join a club (vocalizing her claim on them so she doesn’t have to directly do so).

(chapters 38, 106, and 139)

when the opening comes for mizuha to actually admit her feelings in chapter 139, she tries, but demands instead, “so... love me.” this recalls kahak’s confession to kai in 105.3, that he wants to “protect fushi’s humanity.” kahak and mizuha were both covered in blood when they spoke, but the atmospheres and characters are different; mizuha is clever w her words, but still too immature to let go of her pride, whereas kahak was the exact opposite. he rid of himself of his pride for fushi when he was a child, but said a lot of the wrong things to fushi when it came down to it. additionally, mizuha, when she wants something, she’ll phrase her words so that it seems like there’s only one choice: to follow her. this has been the case for others including fushi (chapters 120.2′s testing of hanna with “if i died, would you cry for me?” and 132.1′s “i’ll teach you about love” and the following guilt-trip). tonari is more direct with her words and meaning than either mizuha or kahak, bc of her personality. she directly confronts fushi when she realizes he had felt betrayed by her in chapter 38, because she still needed him for his plans. but mizuha is more direct with her actions; in chapter 129.1, she latches herself onto fushi, while trying to get information out of him. after the failed marriage proposal, rather than physically attaching himself to fushi like mizuha, kahak used acts of domesticity and protection to subtly appeal to and maintain his space next to them.

(chapter 38 vs chapter 139)

tonari’s “there are people in this world who are better off dead” above isn’t far from the knockers’ reasoning behind “wishing for death is paramount to being dead” and the reason for mizuha’s mother’s death: left hand decided to “eliminate the cause of [mizuha’s breaking point’s] stress.” what this shows is that tonari can also justify murder, though granted, this is from a hundred chapters ago. however, this black and white thinking comes back in the modern era where tonari holds prejudice against mizuha because of her relation to hayase. tonari knows her dislike of mizuha is unfair, she can’t get around it. tonari is still as prideful as she was when she lived on jeannanda; it’s just that she is able to use fushi to justify her opinions now. i also want to bring up mizuha’s reaction to her mother’s death and funa’s knocker’s “purging and guidance.” mizuha seems comfortable with the sight of death, despite having a more normal childhood than tonari, because her actual main concern overwhelms it; she is always thinking on how she can appeal to fushi (almost like kahak), or in other words, how to salvage her pride. so instead of being concerned over being the actual murderer, she is concerned with appearing as a murderer to fushi.

so to actually answer ray’s question, objectively, tonari’s love is as excessive as kahak and mizuha’s. but personally, i think tonari’s love for fushi right now is also unhealthy, though it comes out of good will. kahak’s love also ended in fushi’s benefit, but it was undoubtedly unhealthy. and ofc, mizuha’s love is also unhealthy; she reaches for fushi for perfection, tonari reaches for fushi for humility.

for me, it's really not just scenes, but body language & just in general, how they are with each other, you know? dan and serena grin at each other and hug SO much, you can tell that being around each other in s1 made them both so happy, and even after that glow fades the way they look for comfort in each other... top level stuff. the way blair looks at dan... we never see her as radiant at any other point. she was not looking at anyone else like this. and gosh, dan and nate. they're both so comfortable around each other that there's absolutely nothing weird about like. discussing that one ex girlfriend whom they both share AND both were in love with. there is literally no other duo who trusts/enjoys each other's company so much that they're comfortable in a love triangle. (probably because they're more in love with each other than with the girl, but that is not the point. or is it?)

anyway, more specific answers. under the cut. this is one of the longest answers i've ever written on this blog possibly but you KNEW that would happen when you sent this ask, didn't you? (affectionate)

derena: i tagged one of my ds reblogs as 'the grumpy one is soft for the sunshine one' and like. look at them! this hug from 1x10 kills me in the best way. they are both the literal embodiment of :D when they see each other! i love 1x10 as a whole moment, their entire thing at cotillion is so sweet and they're both so happy. the fact that he is talking about his chemistry teacher during this kiss in 1x07. that bit at the end of 1x05 when they talk about their siblings (being there for their sibling because of fallible parents being a derena parallel makes me simultaneously really sad and really soft, tbh). 1x05 gives me SO MUCH SECONDHAND EMBARRASSMENT but the way they walk off together arms around each other does something to me - these are two people who are still getting to know each other but who really like what they see, and who trust each other and. are just having a good time together! back when derena was my OTP, the 1x11 "your story's about me?" was absolutely a fave, too, and i still adore it, albeit in a different, more nostalgic way. i like a dan who writes cute stories about serena. no empty shell sabrina van skoneker bullshit. she is so much like you, daniel! you'd be shattered if she did this to you. don't do this to her. tbh, most derena moments from s1 are just A+ romance. the bit in 2x02 in the jitney is so funny, they're SO bad at being exes. the bit in... 3x03 i think?? i don't remember... on the contrary. when they're talking about dan's fling w/ georgina and serena's relationship with carter, the ease with which they talk and how happy/supportive they are of each other's new relationships... yeah. love to see it.

i also really like any instance of them having honest/open conversations. 1x13, talking about how serena is concerned about blair. 1x08, serena talking to dan about feeling jealous of vanessa. this bit from the touch of eva or whatever that episode is. 4x04 i think. this is the conversation everyone is trying to get dan to have and he's avoiding EVERYONE else. derena interactions in 3x21 (can't find a gif right now) - the fact that dan is with serena when her dad abandons them, the fact that he goes all the way there with her. 2x07, "i'm really glad you're nate's friend. he really needs someone like you right now" (though i'm cheating, that's technically a d/n moment too klhdflkgf). there's a bit in s4 where he's advising her against having an affair w/ colin, i don't remember the ep number, but the way he takes her side so easily and naturally and puts due blame/responsibility solely on her professor... yeah. 4x10 i think this ep is?? idk. but like my tags say, im sentimental about this moment because while what dan was doing was irresponsible, sneaking her out of the ostroff, he was the only person in this episode who was actually talking to her and listening to her and taking her seriously. nobody else was doing that!!

i probably have more moments i'm not remembering, but we're only 1/3 into this answer and LOOK AT THE WORDS, good lord, i'm sorry.

dair: my favourite dair episode is hands down despicable b (5x21) which i have heard is an uncommon answer. i just love the conflict resolution of it all, okay!!! 1x04 & 2x08 are like. standard answers any dair shipper will give, and i'm no different. i love dan being able to give blair advice and blair actually taking his advice even though they're not friends yet!!! be right back, yelling at the intimacy of it all!! 5x16, with their getting together (this little kiss and dan being so startled by it), blair admitting a flaw she genuinely does have and dan saying it's not awful because it's her, which is just. romance at its finest. those vows, good lord. 5x18.... they're having fun! blair showing up at the loft in lingerie for dan... the delight on her face.... (i know this moment blows up in their face but when she's there she looks so happy and proud of herself and this was like THE moment when i was like. oh. dair is really the heart of this garbage show huh).

i think for me, the thing that really sells dan & blair together is the serena of it all. both of them love serena more fiercely than anyone else, and that is what brings them together. (fwiw i definitely think nate loved serena this much and this deeply, too; the writers just wanted to pop the serenate balloon, which even i think was extremely unnecessary and ooc.) but (& i have so much meta about this) their relationship grows beyond serena. their entire s4 arc is SO good. i love how comfortable around each other they are, in such an adult way, in the sense of like. they both bring so much stability to each other? morgan tagged this edit "the marrieds" and like. yeah. b offers to help him shave. they're having breakfast & reading the paper together.

all the love declarations we got that weren't a simple 'i love you.' be your charming wonderful self (how could she not love you/ tell me what would make you happy, dan) i told chuck he doesn't have my heart anymore (you spent your life earning the keys to set you free when you were free all along!!!!) dan's pep talk to blair in 5x21 (already linked a gifset earlier, here's another one if you want i guess). there's definitely more... but honestly, the way the dair arc was executed was so good - while i do have my complaints, i also think keeping those aside, it was SO close to perfect. i love dan & blair's banter and gradually becoming closer and closer and closer. it felt very organic and real and GOSH. the way penn & leighton looked at each other while playing dan and blair...... it's just SO MUCH.

date: this is the hardest, because it's. *screams*. maybe you saw me losing my mind over those 2 seconds of nate handing dan a waffle? i love almost every scene with these two, even the hellish s6 breakup scene. my favourite episode for d/n (& also favourite gg episode in general) is 2x06 - i love the homoerotic subtext of it all. nate pretending to be dan because dan's name is the first name that came to his head. dan flirting w/ nate while tied to that thing, in his underwear. them becoming friends. and 2x07 as a follow-up to that! dan getting nate to live in the loft with the humphreys for a while. i am so soft.

4x09 is a terrible episode in general, especially for serena my beloved, but the d/n moments in that one? off the CHARTS. this weird overly macho flirting, in some ways THE most iconic d/n line. this entire finish each other's sentences nonsense. someone (i think it was ana but im not sure?) compared the energy of those scenes i just linked to the book blairenate love triangle resolution, blairena choosing each other over nate in the books, date choosing each other over serena in the show (if only! RIP.) after the saints & sinners ball, this cute little moment of 'youre the only one who understands me. please tell me they went home together. i mean. how could they not have.

3x07, them watching vampire porn together. a tag i used on ao3 (& also on here, once) is 'nate brings out the himbo in dan'. here is a prime example. 'is she levitating?' i don't fucking know, dan, what do you think?? (i was telling my partner that that's what i love abt dair vs date. around blair dan is an intellectual, a librarian, an art historian, a museum curator. around nate it's like dan is competing to be #1 himbo on the show. can my girlfriend actually fly? i don't know, dan. i can't believe you're seriously asking such a question.)

3x12 pep talk. (sorry about the shitty quality!) essentially nate telling dan that he (dan) is hot and that he shouldn't talk himself down so much.

dan making nate gay in his book. you know. his book from which blair found out he was in love with her. nads (who i will not tag in this billion word long gushy meta, because i value her sanity) once called inside "wish fulfilment' and. i mean. yeah

nate checking dan out at the derena wedding continues to be hilarious. hilarious in the same way as dan sexually fantasising about nate. canon really went 'let's give ivy some special easter eggs' and i appreciate them a lot!

i love the way they are around each other - so quietly attuned to each other. i showed my sister my date!husbands gifset, and she was like. yeah they're so married. and it's just stuff like how dan looks for nate over his shoulder, it's not even an active action, it's as easy and natural and intuitive as breathing, checking to see if nate is still there.

oh, that wasn't as hard as it could've been! okay. cool. im SURE there's more things i could scream about, because it's DN, the fact that they're non-canon makes me THAT much fiercer about them than dair/derena, to be honest. so many dots to connect!! anyway.

she’s actually really good with kids! even before she became chieftain, she liked hanging out + playing pretend with them

something really cool about urbosa that the kids like is that she treats them with high respect and talks to them like adults!!! (but very sensitive adults at that; she doesn’t tease them much. kids deserve kindness and you bet she’s gonna fulfill that)

m = morning (how are mornings spent with them?)

she prefers long hours of sleep + waking up late. so if it’s a chill day when you’re not needed for anything, she’ll stay with you in bed for hours

if she wasn’t able to sleep as much, she’ll be lowkey grumpy in the mornings until she gets her tea

she puts a lot of effort into them!! she actually finds it really fun to get to plan dates and stuff. she loves giving gifts and they are always very well thought out!!

i couldn’t think of a partner one, but she’s scared of dogs for some reason. she is a cat person and they lowkey freak her out

even though she has guards, being the chieftain means either of you could be put in danger at any time. because of this, she’s a fairly light sleeper. she’s also pretty protective in her sleep! she’ll pull you close to her and keep a hand on the back of your neck or stomach
