#it wont but a girl can dream lol

I'm gonna start this off by saying that this has been ping-ponging around my head like that old dvd screensaver, quicking around and getting more unhinged every time it hit a corner since April. And while this is a meta on the cemetery scene in Death and Taxes, I will be going back and forth in the whole show, so I don't know, buckle up, grab your delusional juice, and come with me if you feel like it.

First thing about that scene is that it tries to make you think about the equine therapy conversation in Dumb Luck.

They are in a location we have never seen before and probably will never see again, the outfits are similar, and even the circumstances of the conversation could be read as close to each other, considering Eddie wasn't doing well after almost dying, Buck is definitely not handling his death well. I made a way too detailed meta about the cinematography of buddie during Eddie's breakdown era (you can read it if you want more details) but the main thing about the dumb luck conversation is that Eddie is finally letting Buck in after continuously shutting him down when he tried to offer help and that's reflected on the way they filmed the scene, the way they are talking, moving, positioned in the frame. It's about Buck reminding Eddie that there's hope after all. Considering the moment Buck's in, with them alluding to that conversation, you would've expected for them to do a similar thing with Buck, right? That this scene going to give Buck the same type of peace the equine therapy talk gave Eddie.

But it doesn't. One thing that's kind of a pattern with Buck, Eddie, and Eddie reassuring Buck (if you could call 2 scenes a pattern) is that they have Buck looking up at Eddie (I also talked about this in more detail here if you're interested) but that's interesting because of Buck's height, he's the tallest person in the room, so he's not usually looking up at people, but something about Buck as character is that he has the tendency to sit in higher places, so he's always higher, and he even picked a place where he can sleep in a high spot.

But when he's getting reassurance from other people in his life, they are both usually sitting down, at the same eye level.

But when he goes to Eddie for reassurance, Eddie is standing up and Buck is sitting down, so Buck is literally looking up at Eddie when he goes to Eddie for advice. And Eddie is always focused on Buck, in Home and Away, Eddie is reasoning with him, and in Recovery Eddie is trying to give Buck what Buck is asking while not pushing his boundaries.

Why is that relevant here? Well, Buck spends the whole conversation in the cemetery trying to get Eddie to look at him and Eddie spends most of the conversation looking forward so he won't have to.

And that alone is very interesting because Eddie is always looking at Buck. I could legit put 100 screenshots here to prove it. So the fact that Eddie can't look at Buck here, means something. Because Buck wants Eddie to be on his side, he needs Eddie to tell him he's doing the right thing, but the way he's talking is making Eddie shut down.

Buck wants answers, right? He wants the easy way out. He died, he has feelings about it he doesn't want to deal with, so he's looking for whatever answers he can get so he won't have to. But the way he's talking sounds a lot like the way Eddie talks to him in Kids Today when he drops Christopher off with him before the tsunami. Very you're alive, get over it thing Eddie had going that ended with him literally destroying everything he had. So, like, we know that's not the way to go about near-death experiences, it doesn't end well because the pressure has to go somewhere and let's face it, Buck has never dealt with anything that happened to him ever. He can't just keep moving past the shit he's been through, at some point, that's gonna catch up to him.

But the thing about the actual content of the conversation is the way that Eddie tries to do the thing he usually does, reason with Buck, "been down that road, don't recommend it" or "or you don't know her the way he does" or "now am I allowed to ask how you are", because it's how they work, but Buck shuts him down with the "I feel like she sees me, like she really sees me for who I am" because that threw Eddie off balance in their relationship, in their friendship really, considering they way they showed us buddie from in a flash to mixed feelings, Eddie is trying his best to be someone Buck relies on, the way we've seen him rely on Buck through his trauma recovery. And one thing we see Eddie constantly do is back away so he won't get hurt once things get too intense. He puts space between him and whatever is bothering him, he ran to LA to escape his parents' judgment (and to be closer to Shannon but his parents played a part there), he kept Shannon at arm's length through most of the time she was back in his life before she died, he kept pushing Buck away after the lawsuit, he pushes everyone away really before his PTSD took him down. Dude retreats from the fight if he's not sure and Buck throws him off balance. Because up until this moment, Eddie thinks he's helping, but we see him realize he was wrong and shut down in real time.

He's still trying, but his thing now is agreeing with Buck. This gif has 11 seconds, black and white because I wanted the whole thing in one gif, but Buck is trying to get a reaction out of him, but Eddie already moved to a whatever you say buddy mode. AND EDDIE JUST WON'T LOOK AT BUCK.

So Buck wants to know if he's doing the right thing, Eddie is agreeing with him not because he agrees with him but because now he thinks that whatever he's doing is not helping so putting distance between them will be what's best because Buck is getting what he needs somewhere else so he needs to minimize the damage to himself.

And the distance thing is something that stays until the end of the season, because during the first half of 6B, they are together the whole time, mixed feelings being obviously the biggest example, but they made a point of highlighting the fact that they were very close outside the firehouse, just to stop. They were chilling at Buck's loft, they were out and about scheming the fire captain, Buck looked more comfortable at Eddie's than he did in his own place. But then we don't even see them together in the hospital after the bridge. Like, there's s p a c e now.

And I spent a really long time trying to figure out what was going on with this scene that made such an impression on me, and it's that Buck doesn't sound like someone who believes in what they're saying, he sounds like someone who's justifying themselves and hoping they are doing the right thing. And Eddie doesn't really let him get away with this line of thought, not usually, but he does now, so they leave that conversation with different impressions of how it went. Buck thinks he's right and Eddie is just backing the fuck off.

And a while back it downed on me what other scene this made me think of. And that's the fountain scene in merry ex-mas.

They are even shot in a similar way, the off-center wide angle, the close-up from a side angle where you can see the other one slightly blurry, the focus of the conversation angled toward the front of the frame, everything happening in an outside location we will never probably see again, the way they are not looking at each other. And the conversation is similar too, I mean, sure they are not talking about dying but it is a big decision in Eddie's life that sounds like Eddie is justifying himself and needs Buck to agree with him. And Buck is agreeing with him, and not talking about it even though we KNOW he has opinions because he kept trying to talk about it with Chimney because Buck doesn't think it's his place to have an opinion and offer it to Eddie. Both scenes sound like they are talking and understanding each other but what the scene is showing us is that they are not.

And something about the way they are pretty much never looking at each other is that it is a way to show they are not seeing eye to eye in a situation, the most extreme example I can think of it is when Eddie drags Buck out of bed in Kids Today because they are pretty much never looking at each other there.

But to have them face the same direction is a really easy way to make you feel like something is wrong, especially if they are not moving, because if they are standing in the same spot for 3 minutes they could've turned to face each other, but they don't, because the message here is that they are not really seeing each other. And that in a conversation where Buck is talking about being seen by someone else????? Like, come on, that's so on purpose.

I also wanna add a take that's not mine, all credit to @anxieteandbiscuits for putting this particular thought in my head with this post, that's basically about how the "dating someone you rescued? that never ends well" line might also be another justification for why Eddie chooses to stay quiet. Because one thing is true, and that is that buddie do be rescuing each other. And it really sounds like something Eddie would do, to justify to himself not doing something that could make him lose Buck any way he could, because romantic relationships are very unstable, no matter how much you want it to work, how much you love each other, there's a very real level of unpredictability in a romantic relationship that doesn't exist in their friendship. So to imagine him going "the friendship is good, the friendship is what I need, I won't do anything to change that because I don't have to and it probably wouldn't end well with our track record anyway" makes a lot of sense too.

A tower, grand and tall, it pierced the heavens. Here the Emissary of God, the King who believed himself a Sun rains and rules with cruelty. His word is the word of God and as such is divine law.

But he is a man, flesh and sinful no matter how much he delivers penance upon himself.

His sin, his vice, his deliverance, his light and darkness: you. You who dare make his flesh ache, you who cursed the emissary with lustful thoughts, you who dare reject him when he called upon you. A simple human who should have been grateful to be called upon by the King in the High Tower, Lord of Babel! Instead, you ran. Fleeing with your lover to the neighboring extension of Babel, Zot.

From there, a new life was going to be made in the forest free from the eyes of the king. But… He found you.

“We have consummated our marriage! I am bound by my body and word to my beloved!” You had shouted the words as your partner and yourself were brought before the King, the room was so cold that day as if the warmth of the Sun dared not enter. With cuffs and chains of heavy iron, dirty from trying to outrun the guards and falling on the ground.

You will never understand how he felt threatened by the love between a farmer girl and a shepherd. How they wedded in a small church and swore to each other to never part.

Love is pure and celebrated, yet he will say it was a sinful union. Lies, spreading it like spilled ink, about the shepherd who was possessed by an unholy creature. How it seduced you and the great Lord of the High Tower saved you… Cleansed you of its taint.

It is not your place to understand madness.

His eyes are hot like the flames of judgment, his lips sneering at why you shout your love for a person who is not him. You cried, pleading with him to see the love shared between your partner and you, to ask the God of the heavens to show him the truth of these words.

Your partner had spoken up, named everything they loved about you, that they would prove before the Heavenly King of the love and bond they have with you.

“Oh?” A bored expression, “Then by all means show your love!” Snapping his fingers, the guard removed your lover’s cuffs. “Give them a sword.” Gesturing to the guard holding your partner down.

The confusion on both your faces was priceless—It seems, “If you so dearly love her,” He stood up slowly, “Kill my guards.”

A guard tosses a blade on the floor and your beloved with shaking hands picks up the sword, “My lord,” The sword is awkward in their hands, “Killing is a sin.” They are… They followed the laws, they are gentle-spirited, and they were not a fighter.

“Indeed it is, yet,” Standing with narrowed cold eyes, “If you do not kill, you will die.”

The guard drawing their swords, the sound of metal sliding out of the sheathes ringing in your ears.

You screamed for mercy that day, begged as they toyed with your beloved. Cutting, laughing— The King laughed as they made the death of the commoner cruel and slow. 

“Halt,” Your lover, your heart, laying on the ground in a pool of their own blood in what is supposed to be a sacred place. A place where the Emissary of God and His light shine with blinding radiance, how wrong is this scene that will haunt your dreams?

“Watch.” He whispers as you are pulled by your hair to expose your neck bare to the Sun King.

Silence.

In the darkness, a numbness settles around you. The moon is high above the cage. Hues of blue that is your illumination, you stare up before sitting up on the ruined bed stained and smelling of sex. You reach up as if you could capture your solo companion the King cannot take away from you, not until the sun steals its place.

At night, your heart escapes into the hands of the moon. A cold, distant, creature that hears your songs of morning. Witnessing your tears, your sorrowful dance with the chain rattling with your movements.

The Sun King has taken you as his own. He promises to marry you once preparations are made.

“If the tongue offends,” Grinning as he spoke, “Cut it out.”

You will never be able to speak during the day. In the light of His brilliance, you speak no evil! At night, you will sing only of His glory and gospel.

Laughable given the bastard--The murderer-- The king of ruin takes you at night whenever he feels his fleshly desires can no longer be prayed away.

Disgusting, you hate him! Hate him for being this fabricator of falsehoods and twisted needs!

You cry in your hands as his touch stains your skin, imprinted upon your body as he is viciously trying to erase the trace of your first from your body. He hates that, hates your first was not his. So he treats you like some whore! As if you were frivolous and should be shameful.

The sun, scorning and blinding, is your warden and enslaver. 

When the cage opens, you dare not move from your spot on the floor near the shadows on the other side of the large cage.

A new piece of furniture is added as a gift each year during the winter. A bed, a vase, flowers, and other materialist things the Sun King believes will please you. The gift he recently gave you is a dress. It drapes over you like the way the bedsheet did when he punished you by stripping you down to bear your shame.

You take all of his sins. All that is of the flesh is taken by you his vice and confessor.

The dress leaves nothing to the imagination and is white like the marble of the floors; reflects light well to the point of… He smiles as he makes you twirl in the dress, an angel. 

Years pass. Winters past. And soon your wedding is announced when he deems you are docile enough to be seen by others.

He lies claiming ‘God’ has gifted him you, that the moment his eyes saw you he and you were connected by the light of His blessing.

The wedding is grand—Grand and noisy. You feel sick the whole time. Being close to him is like enduring the fire at the stake, a slow and painful death.

Summer. Longer days and shorter nights. You once loved the season until you relied on the moon to be able to speak.

Summer is when the whispers of rebellion are no longer whispers, they are shouts and cries. Discontent, paranoia, and the Sun King, Lord of Babel is becoming more antsy.

You feel nothing. Within your cage, nothing outside of it matters. If the rebellion wins or loses, you doubt much will change. She told you so. In the brightest corners of the night, She whispers in your dreams. Your voice calling out to Her and She calling out to you with your voice.

She tells you to fear nothing, to turn away from the Sun, from the False God and his emissary. She will ascend when the time is right and you will be there to deliver a true revolution.

Patience. You obey, you dance and sing for the Sun King, but your eyes are on the moon above.

The cries become louder as Zot falls. Brought to ruins by a ‘Morningstar’, a demon they call him. Ruthless and clever, he has risen from the seven hells to destroy the High Towers of the heavenly God and swears that the Lord of Babel will fall.

Those who are oppressed cheer for him though they dare not voice it within the radiance and wrath of the Sun King.

“None will harm you, my love.” Does he even know what love is? He claims to love you yet love would not make a cruel creature like him. You allow him to make his promises, his lips on your forehead and cheeks, his hands shake… He is losing his confidence as the army is just outside the walls, and his people turn against him.

“Nothing will harm you.” He sleeps on your lap, he knows you have no will to fight or kill him, he broke you long ago when he killed your lover. 

Most are happy with the fall of the king. The rebellion caused the kingdom of Babel to crumble and give way to chaos in the land.

The king is overthrown, the oppressed become the oppressors, and new lies are made into law. 

He is the Lord of the Morningstar and none will raise a tower to God for the Morningstar is the new God of the land.

In crimson, he paints the kingdom. Blood is his paint.

In ebony, the shadows hide the betrayals. Those close to the Sun King helped in his fall, the eclipse of the sun to darken the land.

And in ivory, he dresses you as his consort. The most treasured of the Sun King, a mortal who sings and dances at his beck and call.

The guards show you to the new King, a Lord of Slaughter and Rebellion. You are shown to him even though those guards were sworn to protect you. Maybe they see you as an oppressor rather than a victim like they are. Guess being called the ‘Sun Queen’ makes you seem just as guilty.

Blind to your pain, they simply wish to toss you away or have you switch from one captor to another.

You were the favorite and you are just an object… A pet.

A bird in a golden cage, marble and stained glass room with the centerpiece of your cage surrounded by various flowers and birds singing a tune. You are displayed like a prize and the invader is more than happy to claim.

“Do you speak?”

You turn away from the man in crimson with a black crown-style mask. He eyes the graceful movements of your body as you sit on the bed in the center of your cage. The sound of keys jingling, metal gears clicking, and creaking of the cage door.

You soundlessly sigh as you bow your head.

“A mute bird,” The clicking of his heels nearly makes you jump up and run away… But you know he wants that. Monsters like him love the thrill of the hunt. “But a pretty bird,” He stands beside you at the foot of the bed. “Nonetheless.” The back of his hand, the metal claws of a beast from some fairytale, slides down caressing the bare back left open by your dress. You hold back a shiver and a cringe as he tugs at the chain connected to the golden collar around your neck.

Chains and cuffs on your wrists and ankles are all connected by different points of the cage. Long enough to give you room but a reminder of your place.

You will never be free. This was a promise he made long ago the moment your lover and voice were stolen from you.

The new king pulled the chain behind your neck and caused you to fall backward, your reaction he sought to feed on but you gave none.

He scowls as you turn your head away staring at the open caged door as his hand switches to the silk of your dress. You know what he wants, the king wanted and took from you many times, and your body goes lax-- Doll-like to allow whatever happens to happen.

What is sports do you guys like?

RYUICHI: Surfing,boxing and tennis. I'm the type who has to play the sport themselves or they wont be satisfied.

SUGIZO: Boxing, ah but I'd like to try scuba-diving or sky diving!

INORAN: If it's just watching sports then i like them all

J: Soccer. watching the Olympics (laughs)

SHINYA: i like watching people play sports, because you can feel that person's determination and passion while watching

What is your favorite time of the day?

RYUICHI: Right before falling asleep.

SUGIZO: At night. my body gets a surge of energy, even the rough nights, the lonely quiet nights, everything starts at night.

INORAN: Dusk.

J: It has nothing to do with the time of the day, but whenever I'm in my bed i feel happy

SHINYA: Morning, when I've just woken up. It's rough, but i enjoy thinking about what to do for the day.

what's your favorite brand of alcohol/cigarettes and how much do you drink/smoke?

RYUICHI: I don't smoke. as for wine i drink white Italian wine or white German wine. for whisky i enjoy 12 year old Canadian club whiskey.

SUGIZO: for cigarettes, JPS. my recent favorite is a vodka base cocktail, or like a vodka martini.

INORAN: about 3 boxes of Kent milds. for alcohol as long as it's good Japanese sake I'm fine. how much i drink/smoke depends on the time and place (laughs)

J: 3 boxes of caster milds. for alcohol, lots of beer, vodka, wine, honestly anything (laughs)

SHINYA: i smoke Rothmans. i don't know about alcohol but i drink watered down whiskey a lot.

RYUICHI: I think I've been moving away from watching movies...

SUGIZO: This year i would say "STRANGE DAYS" but my all time favorite is probably the 007 series or "BLADE RUNNER". and also "GODFATHER"

INORAN: Hmm i haven't watched many recently. but i want to watch "LISBON STORY" and "HEAT".

J: I haven't watched any recently but "RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT" was really heartwarming, i liked it.

SHINYA: I haven't had time to watch movies. i have a sets of laser discs but i haven't watched a single one of them.

What's your ultimate dream woman?

RYUICHI: A girl who seems normal at first but when she talks she seems a bit stand offish, but a they still have a childish part about them.

SUGIZO: Vanessa Paradis or Sophie Marceau. oh! and Carole Bouquet, for some reason they're all french..

INORAN: I don't have an ideal and I don't really care about appearance, I just want someone who can sympathize/empathize(TN: honestly not sure if the difference matters here lol) with me

J: i think that someone who is put together/independent and is actively trying to fulfill their goal is wonderful.

SHINYA: I admire the idea of being a women. because emotionally speaking it's something i could never be, so i want to know more about them.

Do you guys have any pets, and if not what pet would u like to raise?

RYUICHI: I've started raising 2 dogs, one's a Pomeranian and the other one's a miniature sheep dog.

SUGIZO: Turtles. They're a something-something akamimi turtle (red ear slider) or something like that, they're really cute! by the way they're names are Mickey and Malorie ((TN: he named them based off the two main characters in the movie "natural born killers"))

INORAN: 2 cats. there's a lot of animals that id like to have as pets though, like a dog or a fish... oh yeah, a wolf.

J: I'd want to have a dog as a pet but having an owl as a pet also sounds nice cus they're awake at the same time i am (laughs) letting them sit on my shoulder and then going for walks (laughs)

SHINYA: i have a hamster. if i were to have a pet in the future probably a big fluffy dog, like a golden retriever.

RYUICHI: The first thing you see when you walk in my house is probably the lights, but i do have a stone statue placed there as well.

SUGIZO: I have an art piece that my friend made.

INORAN: i have a lot of stuff, like pictures, framed art, lamps etc

J: I don't have a lot of decorations in my house. ah! but i do have a bass that was made the year i was born laying around.

SHINYA: Mine's filled with car goods, like the emblems of mini-cars or jaguars etc

at 9pm, yesterday, what were you doing?

RYUICHI: I was driving, on my way to go eat.

SUGIZO: starting to check the photos we'd took in the studio (this is after the shooting had ended, this interview was done in a Denny's at 7 in the morning)

INORAN: met with friends and drank

hi!! same anon from the roosterteeth ask!! loved reading your response, 10/10 gourmet shit. reading thru it, i kinda wanna pitch in my own exhaustion as a poc whipping open rwby twitter and see fans villainizing + silencing other fans who take issues with the white fang and of course, adam. adam will forever be a decisive character and i fully acknowledge that people wont like him. my grievances are less about adam himself (wholly different topic lol) and more of the larger discussion of the inability to challenge adams portrayal and the how the writers fucked up badly. theres this notion in the fanbase that adam is unquestionably an 'evil irredeemable abuser that we should all despise', the same dismissiveness is felt alongside the white fang arc. how we should all 'accept our headcanons are wrong, and accept that adam was always made to be evil'. you cannot discuss the white fang without ever mentioning blakes involvement with it, same goes for adam. he is a direct result of the white fang being so mishandled by the writers who have as much melanin as a slab of wonderbread. you cannot seperate his arc from the writers mishandling and their own prejudice. if we all can agree the white fang was handled poorly, then why are so people hellbent on not reading deeper into aspects of the white fang like adam or blake? although i am not black, i am a queer poc. its so exhausting to see how rwby fans on twitter and tumblr alike would villainize the idea that people who are upset by adams portrayal are 'overreacting incels who didnt get their power fantasy wet dream' and that 'true fans ALWAYS knew adam was evil from the start'. as a queer poc, i feel like if i were to have a presence in this fanbase, these fans with #BLM in their handles and bios that champion queer rights, these same fans would deny me of my queerness and my status as a poc. someone who is 'corrupted' by the whims of negativity, someone who would turn on the (very white) queer peers of the fandom out of my own bigotry. these very same fans would make tweets upon threads praising the show and CRWBY for 'good representation'. im gonna be real, this representation does not include people with disabilities, it does not include trans folk. this representation sure as fuck does not include poc lmfao. it only includes the whitest cute uwu queer girls who handhold and flirt, after a decade of waiting for proper canonization, from a company whos bigotry is its brand and whos built the show off the backs of abused real life employers who are minorities. yet the community insists to be grateful for it. they insist to be happy for the oh so progressive CRWBY, to be grateful that we get to see two girls kiss and that cancels out the mountain of other representation that was chucked behind cus our oh so progressive crwby got too uncomfortable with it. so progressive, 11/10 show and company.

im gonna rant at you for a bit if you dont mind :)

Im a minor that lives in a super tight night, close minded community. Super religious, super homophobic transphobic ect. Seeing as im a teenage girl whose questioning their gender and is definitely attracted to women thats kinda problematic lols. Honestly idek how to explain the situation without a bunch of details, but basically, theres a fifty-fifty chance of me being sent to conversion therapy or just cut off from any internet access (and i mean ANY. i have a flip phone for fucks sake.)if my fam finds out im queer, i have no support system outside of some internet friends who know nothing about my situation, and within the next few years(so like once i turn 20ish, thats in like 4 years but whatever) my family is going to expect me to get married to a man and start popping out babies asap. Btw thats whats expected of me in this community, marriage under the age of 25, have like as many kids as physically possible and god forbid higher education. And im not okay with that . Ffs i want to go to college, major in fine arts, meet a person i like and fall desperately in love or maybe not just have a bunch of close platonic relationships i want cats and a dog and a cute studio in a big city where i can dye my hair whatever color i want aand get an obsene amount of piercings, i want to wear pants!! I just want to live. Without expectations or limits or people who love me hating everything they dont know about me. Is that truly so much to ask for?

And im incredibly dramatic cuz i literally have the dream life. My family loves me, my parents are upper middle class, theyve never hurt me before(besides for all the anti everything rants haha) i literally have a full sized bed, which for some reason i see as the peak of being spoiled idk why. I go to school, not even public, a private religious school that prob costs thousands of dollars, i have friends(who are all part of this community btw and id bet my entire savings that most of them think gay is only a word that ppl use to mean happy lol) close ones even!! I have adorable neices and nephews(my 3 sisters all were married by the age of 20, so i have 11 niecesand nephews while my oldest sister is 31) im living the dream life. But i hate it and i have no way out. No hope of college to get on my feet and find someway out, no people that'll help me fucking run away or some bullshit like that, hell ive considered it and then felt like shit, cuz what am i even running from? Im probably attracted to men it wont kill me to marry one. And i like kids, i wouldnt mind having any either. But.... i dont want to be trapped anymore. Cuz ill be honest thats what i am.if some one asked me to run away with them rn i would, no hesitation.

I am a history enthusiast, and while I do work professionally, (you may have heard my name in a few places,) most of my research and findings are independent. Unless it's peer-reviewed, take it with a grain of salt!

But, enough about me. I'm not a Pokemon trainer, but I have three Pokemon of my own.

Delphi (♀️) - My Absol. The partner I've had longest, and my best friend. She's an older girl now.

Kiran (♂️) - My Cubone. He's still very young and small. I've had him for about a year and a half now.

Atlas (???) - My Sigilyph. It's an Alpha. I am not quite sure about many things regarding it, but it enjoys patrolling my property, I think.

Two mini reviews, partly brought to you by tumblr autosaving - Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas. I wasn't sure what to expect; I really liked The Sunbearer Trials (Ive not yet read the sequel), and DNF'd Lost In The Never Woods because it was the wrong type and intensity of dark and spooky for me at the time. Cemetery Boys is a freaking delight. Maybe my least favourite part was the villain reveal, it made sense but either it wasnt foreshadowed enough or I just wanted better for that character? idk. But this isnt primarily a plot book, its a romance, and its a story about community and acceptance, and figuring out how you fit into the world when you're not the shape you're expected to be. And it did really well with both those aspects. I also appreciate that with so many stories, real and fictional, about people who have to leave their communities to find themselves, I appreciate a story of someone who never once thinks maybe I need to leave, and instead forges on to create space for himself in his community and his heritage. That's not everyone's story and thats totally fine. Our experiences are diverse and we deserve diverse stories. Its all good. As for the romance, its really believable. Its quite an opposites-attract situation, from Julian's aggressive queerness and non-issue with Yadriel's transness making his albeit and unexpected presence a breath of fresh air to Yadriel, to their growing understanding of each other's lives and admiration for the strength of each others convictions. (When Julian is upset about his friends and Yadriel nevertheless pauses to set that boundary about ghost-safety, that was hot.). And the ghost aspect! (this is not a mini review anymore lol). I was not really sure how that was going to go, and then cheering for them, and then wondering what the heck they were gonna do about ongoing ghost-itude and the finiteness of that situation, and actually I really liked how it went. The romance and how they push each other and grow to understand each other is fun, romantic, sexy, heartfelt. Remarkably sexy given that one of them is a ghost who cant be touched. (Spoilers for a sec - the scene on the car where Yadriel reaches for Julian's jacket to pull him closer and there's nothing there to grab? Oh that feels like grief.) The book is quite a bit about grief. Missing parents, missing support networks, missing opportunities to be yourself and be accepted. Its about a guy who can communicate with ghosts and its set around Dia de Meurtos, there's grief themes.

I also really love Maritza, showing off another aspect of (gender) non-conformity, that its not only trans people who have trouble fitting fairly strict defined roles. (Julian's friends do so similarly). Almost all the Spanish I picked up from context, but how Julian refers to Yadriel at the end I knew I had to look up that word specifically and oh my heart. Overall really enjoyed. probably 9/10 second, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. I havent read the books/comics, I have seen the movie. This show....for at least the first half I had no idea what the rules of the universe were or what exactly was going on or what themes exactly were being explored. I was definitely entertained though. The last few episodes manage to make sense of the first few and deliver on those themes in ways I quite liked. I liked that Ramona is the "manic pixie dream girl" and then almost immediately gets upstaged for that role by Envy Addams. I normally am annoyed at stories in which some boring guy "gets" the manic pixie dream girl and certainly doesn't appreciate her - you know the kind who goes on reddit and complains that she wont stop talking about slugs or decorates their whole house in anime? And I know scott pilgrim is a comment on that trope. I like how its about scott but its not really about scott. Largely its about Ramona and her friends (and her exes). And the others recognise that scott isnt so great, or so smart, and also that if Ramona likes him thats cool. He can be a "lovable idiot" and shes not automatically making a mistake with him. If they're happy they're happy. (and of course the ways that *could* go wrong, but arent destined to). Plus the music is fun, the visuals are bright and pretty. It might lean overstimulating for some people, I had to stop and think about my spoon levels between episodes. Thats what I got for today. Two very different fun stories I recommend like 8-9/10, not perfect but a damn good ride.

Thoughts While Watching Gilmore Girls, Season 2, Episode 17, "Dead Uncles and Vegetables”, Part 4

There are about 7 minutes left in Dead Uncles and Vegetables, let's wrap this up. Emily got swept up in Sookie's wedding planning because she never had the opportunity to plan a wedding for Lorelai (of COURSE. why didn't that click for me? It's so obvious.) Emily lays on the passive-aggressiveness thickly, "I gave up on you having a wedding a long time ago", "If you ever do get married you're just going to have the wedding in this diner and serve burgers and fries to the guests", "Let me tell you about the wedding that I had always envisioned for you" yada yada yada, typical Emily shit. Despite this, Lorelai is still being unusually patient and reasaonble with her mother. I'm still not convinced she's feeling well.

And there it is.

Dirty. I mean, she did just leave work in the middle of the day to help him look at coffins. And apartments. Just gonna go on the record that the Luke/ Lorelai build up until the point they started going out was SOO GOOD (Teen Girl Squad voice) and then shortly after it finally happened, the magic quickly deflated like a popped balloon.

And then what, they broke up in season 6 and didn't get back together for good until the final 30 seconds of the last episode of the series? Am I remembering this correctly? It's been 3 years since I've bothered with the Yale/Logan/Insufferable Rory/Garbage Seasons. Sadly this is pretty typical in many tv series, the will they wont they is infinitely more satisfying than watching some boring couple have a relationship and get married and wash dishes together and shit. Lorelai is like "Luke did you feed Paul Anka" and he's like "Yeah" and she's like "Okay, can you pick up more dog food at Walmart? And don't forget to take the garbage out.". and Luke is like "Tomorrow's Wednesday, garbage day is Friday." I know you don't want to think about it too much, but the same thing would happen if Rory and Jess got married.

Don't get me started on the precious little I still remember from a Year In the Life.

Friends leave work in the middle of the day to help friends look at coffins for their uncles. Just friendly friend things.

God help me, I love these two. In the conclusion of the episode, Lorelai is the only person to accompany Luke to Dead Louie's burial, which was awfully nice of her.

Stop! This is so tender. Luke worries that like Dead Louie one day he's going to die alone and nobody will come to his funeral. You're mind is clouded with grief Lucas, that's not you, you must be thinking of Dean Forrester. His own family won't come to his funeral. Clara might but she will kick his coffin. You'll be fine. Just had the thought that Jess is definitely going to be the one to plan his funeral but eh let's not dwell on that.

So am I. You're fine. Lorelai runs down all the ways Luke has showed up for her : Making Rory's birthday cake, helping her around the house, building her a chuppah, taking in Jess. Ugh I'm getting a misty eyed. I'm not used to this show inspiring such sappy feelings in me. The Convention of the Male Karens/War Re-Enactors who just spent several minutes yesterday reminding Luke that his uncle was a piece of shit and that they were happy to see him croak have shown up to send him off. Welcome to Stars Hollow where everyone you meet is a two faced phony. The sign welcoming you into the town says "Welcome to Stars Hollow. Trust no one." This must be the longest weekend ever because Rory has not gone to school in like 4 days.

Hippie has packed up his farmer's market. He tells Taylor he just grows the vegetables in his backyard as a hobby. He sold them off to make money for traveling. Taylor: If this was only temporary, why did you put me through all that hoo ha at the town meeting? Hippie: You bought it on yourself, Taylor. *calmly walks away* If we can't end the episode with Jess taking Rory down a peg over her weird power trip, then fine, I'll take someone humbling Taylor.

I love it when Jess bears his naked forearm like such a saucy strumpet. Good little vegetarian loading his plate with bread and beans.

Jess organized the wake himself? is that what I'm hearing? Is that the reason behind Rory's power trip? Just so in the last 2 minutes of the episode she could be like "Even though you're 17 years old and your work ethic is so ridiculously solid that it will eventually cause you to drop out of high school, a work ethic which surely violates some child labor laws in the state of Connecticut and Luke should be investigated, a work ethic which has arisen out of sheer survival because your mother is an unemployed alcoholic and you had to help pay her bills, and even though I'm Miss Rory No Job Gilmore, you took some breaks, so I thought you were a slacker. But I see you put together this wake, so I guess you're actually capable of doing stuff."

She said it in fewer words, but you know.

I know that voice of unflappable modesty. He claims he only unlocked the door for Miss Patty and then he went back to sleep. Is sleeping code for jerking off now? He's been doing a lot of sleeping.

Milo told AmyShermanPalladino he wanted Jess to die after getting stabbed in the neck so I wouldn't be surprised if he floated the idea of a botched liquor store robbery. I actually had to google it because I will swear up and down I read that "killed in a botched robbery" was one of his ideas, but I only found "stabbed in the neck" or "hit by a bus." This episode was so nice. It was funny. It was sweet and touching. There was no Dean. Rory was a pest to Jess but everyone else left him alone. I honestly didn't even recall that this episode existed before I started this rewatch, but now that I've seen it again, I'll stick it in my top 10 episodes (which I should post soon). The end.

george isnt a feminine guy, hes masculine, with his stubble, body language, the way he dresses, all of it, but he’s still a woman. hes a woman because he feels he is one. and thats enough. he doesnt have to and he probably wont change the way he presents himself to fit peoples stereotypes of what a woman is. people need to stop pushing femininity onto george. hes a woman who is comfortable as he is and pushing him into a box which he’s not going to stay in is wrong!!! hes not going to conform and he shouldn’t have to for everyone to accept that!

from a young age girls are told they’re overreacting or that their emotions don’t matter because its just not a big deal. yet thats exactly what people tell george, the people who are fans of george and hate dream telling him he has to stop talking to dream. yet still, hes able to make his own choices! george is able to make his own decisions and deserves to be treated as such!! a grown adult who can understand right and wrong. the infantilization seen everyday towards him is honestly absurd, he can make his own choices and when he tell’s people to leave him alone they should listen! especially if they’re expecting him to listen to a word they say.

people push this narrative onto george so much when he makes even the smallest statements people lose their minds. its always george is silently bitchy, dont mess with george he’ll drop you in the blink of an eye. of course he will! if george were to say what he thinks im sure everyone would undermine him the same way they’re doing now. george isnt a woman because he dresses or looks pretty. (although george is very pretty lets be real here) george is a woman because he says he is. he deserves respect and not to be shut in a box where people think they know whats best. all in all, george is a woman who deserves to be respected and treated as an adult.
