Doing a silly just for fun little read along with my friend, we're reading an embroidery murder mystery book, cosy mystery's aren't typically what I read but as we're both crafters we thought it would be fun. We're reading one chapter at a time and then talking about it on a discord call before we read the next chapter. It's fun and I definitely think we'll be doing this with the whole series, bonus is it's helping get me back into reading.

Taking a shot in the dark here but I was wondering if you know of any studyblr's that are LGBT, male or transgender, it doesn't matter what they're studying since I like following blogs that do things I don't. How I make flash'cards' for British Sign Language.

First up I use Anki and make basic flashcards, however the difference is on one side I have gifs of the signs being done. Of course for grammar cards I make regular cards with a question on one side and the explanation on the other, but for the rest it's gifs.

But how do I get my gifs? Simple, I make them! I use a free app called ScreenToGif, it comes with a built in screen recorder and editor for making gifs. I simply record videos of the signs being done, trim, save them and then put them into the flashcards as I make them.

But here's where you have to be careful, the videos you use, you need to make sure they're reliable as not all signing videos you'll come across are from teachers or people who actually use BSL and aren't just learning or worse, making it up (yes sadly those exist). You want to make sure they're good sources of information and of course, double check it's the sign language you're actually learning as there are hundreds of different Sign languages.

Decided to restart my French Duolingo. I’m only writing down things I struggle with remembering the spellings for but also marking genders as that's an aspect of French I've always struggled with. As you can see, I don't really care about making my notes pretty today. My hand couldn't decide between writing in print or cursive.

I’m easing my way back into studying after the chaos that was 2020. I attempted to get back into studying multiple times last year but my mental health took a nose dive and I kept stopping. Even if I ignore covid, 2020 was hard for me, I started the year off by being attacked by a dog and having to go to hospital, the man that raised me had a heart attack, he survived but had to have bypass surgery right as covid started to spread here in the UK. That was followed by my best friend getting covid and almost dying, she survived thankfully but now has permanent damage to her lungs. There was a rise in transphobic hate crimes in my area following J.K.Rowling doubling down on her transphobia which resulted in some people who live in my street screaming at me inches from my face (while saying they had covid by the way, and spat on my face) and threatened to snap my neck right there and then. As a result I’ve developed a new PTSD trigger which has been fun to deal with.

So as you can tell 2020 was a disaster for my mental health and that seriously put a stop to my ability to focus on anything, especially studying and art (which is my job so that became my focus, trying to not stop drawing despite everything). So I’m hoping 2021 will be better in terms of studying, I’ve already been doing flashcards every day so far this year, which yes means only a week but it’s more than I was doing. I’m working my way up to fully studying and so far I’m hopeful.

Finally getting back to Japanese after my little break. Papa is out of hospital after his heart surgery, been a stressful 2 weeks. But hes home and being taken care of by mama, his wife of 51 years, hes in good hands.

I’ve forgotten everything! Okay that’s an exaggeration, but I have forgotten things even though I covered them at the start of the year. Onward and upwards.
