[ID.: A gifset containing four gifs of the turn based fantasy RPG Battle Chasers: Nightwar.
Gif 1 shows a top down view of three of the protagonists walking along a stylized map. The area they’re traveling through is called “Village Ruins” and is a grassy area following a river.
Gif 2 shows three combat scenes. In each scene, three protagonists are on the lefthand side while enemies are on the right side. One scene is set in a dock area, with a blue mech protaganist standing in the back; a green-cloaked protagonist in the middle; and a large man with a red scarf using his large sword to swing fire at two robot enemies. Another scene is set in a misty, rainy forest as the players fight two bipedal wolf enemies. The player party is made up of the blue mech, the green-cloaked character, and an old man with a staff. The green-cloaked player punches the ground which hits the wolf enemies with rocks. Another scene is set in a different forest, with the player party made up of the blue mech, the old man with the staff, and a woman with red hair in a ponytail. The woman with a red ponytail is being attacked by a treasure chest with sharp fangs and a tongue.
Gif 3 shows an isometric view of one of the protagonists, who is wearing a green cloak, running through a dimly lit village. The village buildings are made of plant-covered pipes with moving, mechanical parts that pump out steam.
Gif 4 shows a close-up shot of a protagonist in a black void with a teal fire in the bacgkround. The protagonist is a large man with a red scarf wielding a large sword against a bipedal wolf enemy. He slashes at the wolf with spinning attacks.

I’ve played the Harvestella demo twice so far. I found it difficult to get used to the controls as they seem a bit wonky. But it got better once I got used to it. I think if you like Rune Factory or Harvest Moon, you’ll enjoy it.
My one caution (con?) is that I went into it expecting farming/crafting to be a bigger deal, but so far its not. It’s hard to explain but the farming mechanics make me feel like this game is more jrpg than farming sim compared to Rune Factory. I’d say that Rune Factory blends both together pretty well so it feels more farming sim with fighting in it. I will admit that the demo is for only 2 chapters of the game or 15 days so whichever comes first, so who knows if there is more farming/crafting element to it once you get past the 15 days.
Once I got past that and I found the story quite interesting. I can tell to fully get it, I’m gonna have to play it several times.

i was linked to this absolutely wild thread from 14 years ago on a forum for aquarium enthusiasts from michigan: a guy has a 90 lb rock in his aquarium that was infested with a bobbit worm (the penis thing is a misconception) that poses a threat to the rest of his fish and solicits help on how to kill it. but because he can't feed the worm poison without risking the decomposing body killing the other fish, he's doing looney tunes shit to it
warning for occasional pictures of scary worms that looks like jrpg bosses

Hello Tumblr-ers! I’ve decided to start posting more CyberThreat stuff here, I can’t wait to share more of the game with you!
CyberThreat is a solo developed, turn based, modern-day RPG set in the fictional city of Edendale. You play as a student who arrived for their final years of study amidst what’s known as the serial disappearance cases. While the city is gripped by these mysterious cases, and the police are scratching their heads for a lead, you will discover the digital world of Cyberspace, and how it ties all of these disappearances together.
Play as a normal student by day: Attend class, hang out and go on inclusive dates, play mini-games such as fishing, cooking, gardening and more!
By night, play as ‘Ghost’, and lead your team of Hackers to battle in Cyberspace against the computer viruses, to save their victims from the jaws of despair.
Please check out the game’s official Steam wishlist page to get an idea about the game. I hope you’ll like it, and I look forward to sharing more with you soon!

This week, I finalized the text for the Ashcan version of At the Gates. It should be coming along to DTRPG within the next couple of weeks. I'm so damned excited for people to start reading and playing in this world I came up with. In celebration, please tell me what your favorite jrpg minigame is.

I've been thinking of getting into oldschool runescape, but I don't have any friends who play it. I like watching videos of it on youtube, but that doesn't give the best idea of what it's actually like to play. So I wanted to ask, what is it that you enjoy about the game and why?
Graphical and sound limitations are played with in fun ways. Quest design is largely very fun. It feels like an old 90s point and click adventure game but also you can go online people-watching at the same time. I can play it as a largely-solo experience, which... kind of makes it feel not very much like an MMORPG, in a few regards? But sometimes you get to have a chat with strangers while you fish or butcher weird tongue guys, and sometimes that's nice.
There's a very large amount of somewhat esoteric mechanics that all kind of intermingle with each other in mostly interesting ways, and I like when games do that if the mechanics are fun to engage with. (It's part of why I enjoy stuff like "Warframe" for the same reasons others find it intimidating or overwhelming! I like having a big box of toys to play with and going "okay I will play with my trucks today & tomorrow I might play with my dolls"!) It's an itch a lot of games don't scratch because deciding "we're going to make something old and rough and clanking and massive and complex & then we're throwing you in to figure it out amongst yourselves" is daunting and difficult to design and largely a product of Many Many Years Of Being A Video Game. But it works well here in my experience. I think it helps that all the individual pieces of how content works, & how you control the video game (it's all point and click babyyyyy) are all relatively simple to grasp.
You can go wherever the fuck you want and engage with whatever contents of the game you want in any particular order. It's a sandbox! There is no real concrete end of the game! There is no overarching goal unless you want there to be one! The game is either done when you want it to be or it's done when you have done literally everything there is to do in it. (It feels like the antithesis of "Final Fantasy XIV" in a way? That one's designed to be a traditional JRPG linear structure that's built around multiplayer / social mechanics. It's interesting contrast IMO.) And that's cool! And doing any individual bit can feed into unlocking other things, or providing resources for other tasks or challenges or goals, but you can also just decide "I just want to fish and that's it" and there's a lot the game does to support that and make that as compelling and engaging as you want it to be! Some of that's going to be a grind, but the grind (improvement over time, the celebration of labour and hard work for its own sake, learning a trade or a skill or a hobby) is kind of the point. The grind isn't going to be for everyone and that's fine. It's for me. I respect it being so unflinching in being the sort of video game that it is.
This is a sidebar (and a low bar at that) but I also appreciate it not being crammed full of microtransactions and advertisements. LOL

when people see my lace in progress they commonly exclaim "but how do you keep track of all those bobbins?!?" and here is the secret. you don't! of course you don't, oh my god! how would you possibly keep track of a hundred identical bobbins??? do you guys seriously think I'm going "and bobbin 96 crosses over bobbin 42" NO lmao. you don't look at the bobbins hardly at all! you look at THE LACE lol. you just pick up whatever bobbins are attached to the four threads that need to go into the stitch you're about to make. anyway I've got important jrpg fishing business to attend to but possibly in a future post I'll explain how you know which threads those are, but either way yeah, seriously, you don't need to "keep track" of the bobbins it REALLY doesn't matter lol

JRPG-inspired turn-based fantasy RPG Runa announced for PC
From Gematsu
Tumblr media
Madrid-based developer Fennec Studio has announced Runa, a turn-based RPG inspired by modern and classic Japanese RPGs. A Kickstarter campaign will launch on April 16.
Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
About
Runa is an adventure game inspired by modern and classic JRPG, with turn-based battle system, social links and a story-rich science fantasy world. Promising to keep intact what makes classic JRPG games fun, Runa also features elemental puzzles and base building, as well as minigames like farming, fishing and cooking. Runa is set in a world in which runas symbolize the technological advancements of an ancient civilization. Whether for domestic use or combat, the use of runas is key. Only some people, known as adepts, are able to fully control them and unleash their true powers.
Key Features
-Explore a Huge World – The world of Runa is a colorful and vibrant fantasy one, but also full of mysteries and sci-fi elements. Follow the journey of a group of adventurers who, driven by their unique motivations, find themselves traveling the world and unraveling all its hidden secrets.
-Fight Turn-Based Battles – The “Elemental Break System” is a battle system inspired by JRPG classics: turn-based battles with ordered turns, elemental affinities and strategical approach. With four active and a total of seven party members, that can be swapped anytime (no turn wasted), group ultimates, and a lot of powerful skills!
-Relationships and Romance – Date different characters individually to strengthen your relationships with them. If you’re trying to find that special someone in the world of Runa, you’ll have more than 15 romance options, including same-gender relationships.
-Solve Elemental Puzzles – Solve a wide variety of elemental riddles, with seven different elements and 12 elemental skills at your disposal. Engage in quick puzzles in both the overworld and cities, and navigate dungeons designed around unique puzzle combinations.
-Base Building and Minigames – Build your own base in the city of Enyth by creating and enhancing buildings according to your preferences. Recruiting certain characters or completing important quests unlock the creation of some buildings, including: Residences, Canteen, Dojo, Lab, Farm, Runa Research Center, Antique Shop…

Autistic Anime Boys Side A Round 1 Match 11
Tumblr media
Propaganda:
Yu -
"Like all Persona protags, he hardly canonically speaks. Seems too cool for school but is actually just a cringefail guy who loves his little sis Nanako, likes to fish and make beef stew, and also likes cats. He also solves murders with his friends and forcibly teach people the power of friendship! And to paraphrase one of my mutuals, "I love Yu because he just stands there like •_• and then everyone falls in love with him. Gets accused of dating like every girl he meets, gets teased by every girl on the investigation team, has whatever he has going on with Yosuke. This kid and his autism swag". Oh yeah there was also originally gonna be an option for Yu to romance said Yosuke guy, including the confession dialogue being recorded in both Japanese and English, but it was removed because ALTUS hates gay people </3 But don't worry because there's a mod that adds this option back in because the devil works hard but gay JRPG fans work harder."
Sechs -
"As a teenager his father reveals to him that he's actually not human and then he essentially intellectualizes his own crisis toward that so hard that he talks himself into enacting a doomsday plan to make all life cease to exist so technically nobody will suffer anymore. So he takes two of his fellow wizards both of whom are absolutely infatuated with him (one of which is the closest the BlazBlue series gets to a canon gay man imo), takes a super powerful weapon from his father and in a sort of misunderstanding slash random event ends up killing him, and then the three of them flee the country and start trying to act out his plan. He pretty much just stares at people silently and only talks occasionally, when he does it's usually either a short sentence that is either blunt or vague. His magical attribute is gravity magic idk as someone with vestibular/proprioceptive sensory issues gravity magic is an autistic as hell magic to master in. He also has a funny name. In the joke route he is also written adding a sort of gap moe attribute to his tendency to not talk a lot where he stops talking in any instance where he's thrown off a social script or doesn't know what to say, and in the gatcha spinoff of course because they have to make him at least cooperate with you he tends to read as less overtly evil and more just having low empathy and a strong sense of his form of "justice." There is so much more I could say about him he's one of my favorite characters in the entire BlazBlue extended universe he's just a very cool character both as a villain and a circumstantial ally. Vote for funny guy named sex as a win for autistic emo twinks everywhere."
