annabeth pickpocketing the god of thieves is REDEMPTION for the atrocity that was omitting her copious amounts of waterland thievery. i’m glad they’re finally giving my girl the credit she deserves!! the fact that she probably learned how to pickpocket from luke while on the run and then performed the same act on his father who happens to be the reason for luke’s pickpocketing skills in the first place and someone who luke passionately hates…luke, you simply CAN’T betray her after this one. i think justice was served 😭

i really think the fandom kind of glosses over the trauma annabeth endured in ttc. like, the poor girl fell off the side of a cliff, was manipulated into holding the literal weight of the sky on her shoulders for hours, and (if i remember correctly) was tied up at one point. but this is all we can be certain happened because that's all of what percy saw. but what about what we didn't see? the poor girl probably spent the first few days immobilized and in so much physical pain once artemis took the sky from her. she was probably starved, or at the very least, not getting the amount of food and water she needed consistently. she probably spent most of her nights in an endless cycle of torment knowing that her friends were coming for her, but not knowing how long it would take them to find her. she probably quietly cried herself to sleep knowing the reason she was even in this mess was because of luke. i could go on and on, but you get my point.

“Percy, meet Gladiola. Gladiola, Percy.”
I stared at Annabeth, figuring she'd crack up at this practical joke they were playing on me, but she looked deadly serious.
“I'm not saying hello to a pink poodle,” I said. “Forget it.”
“Percy,” Annabeth said. “I said hello to the poodle. You say hello to the poodle.” The poodle growled.
I said hello to the poodle.

Sally Jackson the woman you are. This, this, is why I’ve been enjoying the show so much. The focus points on sally and percy’s relationship throughout the show just expands on what we have always seen throughout the book.
Sally is the beating heart of the percy jackson series.
Percy achieved everything he did in the book series because of sallys love and support. We see it time and time again. His tenacity, his thoughtfulness and selflessness are all products of sally doing her best by him time and time again. Even when he wasn’t quite able to understand all her reasons. You feel sally’s influence in every decision he makes.
Percy never loses sight of what matters because sally never compromised on who she is or what she believes.
Percy’s fatal flaw is that he would watch the rest of the world burn to save his friends (and his mom)
but
i’m absolutely sure that sallys fatal flaw would be exactly the same. She would watch the world burn to save her son, her son that she loves beyond measure and just wants to protect.

Oh my god I am so fucking dumb.
Y'all know that voice Percy hears in his dreams in the first two episodes? Well my dumbass thought that was Hades and that the show was gonna try and demonize him again and I really hated it.
It just fucking hit me. They aren't demonizing Hades (minus from what Chiron says). That's KRONOS who's talking to him. I've read this series how many times? (At least three this year)
I blame the movies. They very much DID demonize Hades, and for no reason, so I thought that they were just doing that all over again.
I just fully expect to see all media demonize him that I didn't even realize that it was the MAIN FUCKING VILLAIN that was talking.

I’ve been seeing a lot of discussion about Clarisse’s casting in the PJO show that basically boils down to “anyone can be ugly if they have a mean personality.” And like yes, that’s true, but "ugly" people also exist (by ugly, I mean not conventionally attractive). let ugly people be ugly (so long as their ugliness is not a reflection of wider prejudice - ie, if only the evil characters are fat, that’s bad).
This bothers me especially because there is no representation for tall, broad, fat, “ugly” preteen and teenage girls, at least not any that isn’t centered around them becoming beautiful. I don’t think ugliness is a bad word on its own. making a character who rejects femininity and is described as ugly both pretty and feminine isn’t making some kind of statement about how pretty people can be mean too, especially because Clarisse is ultimately redeemed.
For her character to be ugly and mean at the start of the story and end still "ugly" (by conventional standards of femininity) and nice means that her character growth is about her personality - and that her looks were never a reflection of her morality.
It's true that you can be pretty while rejecting femininity, but the way Clarisse is styled in the show (in my opinion) is too feminine. Her appearance is too put together, too subtly feminine, for how she's described in the books. This is no shade to Dior! I actually think she does a great job as Clarisse and I look forward to seeing more of her. But tv and movies have a long history of casting attractive women only to call their characters unattractive, thus reinforcing harmful stereotypes about what is and isn’t beautiful, instead of casting actually *average* looking women.
THAT is the representation my middle school self is aching for. I want a middle schooler who’s taller than all her friends, who’s got a belly, who looks awkward in dresses because of her build, who’s wider than her male friends, who's going through puberty faster than her friends, who has acne and doesn’t wear makeup and doesn’t understand what femininity is and dresses like a Tom boy. These traits aren't ugly. They're normal. They're just not aesthetically attractive, so they are invariably erased from media.
Where is my preteen girl in basketball shorts because the shorts available to girls are too revealing for someone of her size? Where is my teenager who has been told, explicitly or otherwise, that she doesn't conform to beauty standards, so she refuses to wear dresses or skirts? Where is the girl who knows she's "ugly" and doesn't care? Where is the one who never cared until someone told her, and suddenly she wishes to be skinny and slender and not broad-shoulder and not tall and to look like her mom instead of being told she looks like her dad?
I'm all for diversity in casting because people are diverse. But body type - and not just visually appealing or acceptable body types - is part of diversity to. Annabeth’s appearance has virtually no impact on her character, and Leah carries her perfectly. For Clarisse and others like Piper, their appearance is INCREDIBLY relevant to their characters.
Let “ugly” girls be ugly. Combatting fatphobia - which also includes normal sized women and broad shoulders, because the fashion industry has labelled all non-models as fat - in media is not just about showing non-skinny people as attractive. It’s about showing non-skinny people as EXISTING. and being valid for that alone, outside of their moral or aesthetic value.
I can only think of one actress who’s roughly my build. I can think of zero times I watched media aimed for kids and saw a kid my size. Diversity is not just an aesthetic designed to be palatable. Casting characters with ugly personalities as beautiful people when the character in question will go through a redemption isn't the slay some people think because it's still reinforcing the idea that looks have moral value. I rarely see characters without aesthetic attractiveness nowadays, not ones who are on the hero's side; when it comes to children, when I say attractiveness I mean the way a child in a clothing ad looks cute and cheerful, not romantic/sexual attractiveness. For children especially, body positivity is far less important than body neutrality - the idea that their bodies don't have morality or attractive value attached.
What's most important to me is that "ugly" and unfeminine preteen and teenage girls see themselves represented neutrally, in a way I can't recall ever seeing myself.
I don't mean to hate on Dior. I really do think she's excellent as Clarisse. This is just my perspective, as an "ugly," tall, broad-shouldered, chubby former middle school girl who would've loved to see someone who looked like me.

percy is an incredibly skilled sword fighter. and it's safe to say that he doesn't just train with riptide. because only training with his god-given weapon would be incredibly irresponsible (and annabeth would never let him develop that crutch). so i have to assume he proficient enough to hold his own with any elongated tool he can get his hands on. and it has to come in handy in the funniest way. like imagine percy and annabeth playing tag. and he just grabs the nearest paper towel roll and 🤺🤺 her hands to she can't lay a finger on him.

Sunlit Gotham ALTERNATE Plot Point
Justice League Meets Camp Half Blood (Batman's POV-ish)
The Batplane lands in a field nearby some tents. Superman and Wonder Woman are already talking to a handful of teens wearing Ancient Greek battle armor. Other teens work around the makeshift battle camp, sharpening weapons, preparing traps, and tending to the wounded.
“We have some scouts spying on the other army.” A tall blonde teenager informs the three adult heroes. “They should be coming back any time now.”
Superman cocks his head to the side and glances out towards the trees across the battlefield.
“Three teenagers?” He asks.
“Yeah, three of our counselors.” The teen - Malcolm, as he introduces himself, says.
“They’re sprinting this way.” Superman begins to hover slightly, “And they’re being chased by something big.”
Whipping around, Malcolm sprints towards a table that holds a mirrored shield on it. He pulls it close and demands, “Show me the stealth team.”
The shield’s surface ripples and as it clears it shows an aerial view of three teens sprinting through the forest. The shortest member is repeatedly making a hand signal as they run.
Swearing under his breath, Malcolm calls out, “Miranda! Get Ready To Activate the Vine Trap!”
A handful of teens sprint out, carrying packets of seeds. They scatter the seeds around and run back to a safe distance away, hiding amongst nearby bushes to stay out of sight.
The group of three break through the trees, running straight towards the new group. The teen in the lead holds a scroll in their hands as they sprint straight towards the scattered seeds. The other two are close behind.
Exploding out of the trees comes a large snake-like creature. It roars and spittle flies everywhere, burning away the grass where it lands. It’s intent on chasing down its prey.
“By Hera, that’s a Drakon.” Diana whispers in horror
As the monster gets close enough, the hidden teens do something and the seeds begin to grow into vines. They grasp the Drakon and it bucks, trying to throw them off.
A member of the trio turns around to watch and lets out a cheer as the Drakon stills. Then the giant head snaps up, its eyes glaring directly at the teen. They freeze, and the other two sprint past. The shortest member skids to a halt and turns back towards their friend just as the Snake HEAVES upwards, snapping the vines.
“Connor! Move!” They sprint back towards the frozen teen - Connor - and tackle him out of the way as the snake dives into the ground where they had just been.
Pulling him to his feet, the smallest teen takes off sideways across the field, dragging Connor behind them as the snake turns and gives chase.
The two shout back and forth as they run, waving their arms wildly before Connor nods and takes the lead. The other one makes sure to follow exactly where he steps.
“Holy shit.” Malcolm mutters from where he stands, “They’re going for the minefield.”
“The what?” Superman asks, concerned.
A different teen comes to stand beside Malcolm, he has a green flannel thrown over his bright orange t-shirt.
“Gods dam-it, Sky. You idiot.” He swears under his breath.
“Kayla!” Malcolm barks out, “Get the chariot and get them out of there!”
A girl with dyed hair shakes her head wildly. “The pegasi won’t go near a Drakon. They just won’t do it.”
“Shit. We gotta get them out of there.
The Drakon hits the minefield.
A Concussive blast sounds out, quickly followed by another, and another. The ground shakes and the two teens stumble but continue to sprint.
“They’re not gonna make it.” Malcolm mutters.
“They’re gonna make it.” The other blonde counters.
“They’re not gonna make it.”
“They’re gonna make it.”
“They’re not gonna make it.”
“They’re gonna — SHIT They’re not gonna make it!”
One last blast knocks the two teens off their feet.
A gust of wind is all the notice the spectators have before Superman is back, both teens in his arms. He’s trying not to make it obvious, but Batman can tell he’s looking at the shorter teen in shock.
Both kids stumble to the ground as Clark puts them down and immediately the blonde in the flannel approaches them, glowing gold.
After a few moments he leans back slightly and asks, “Can you hear me now?”
They both nod.
“Good.” He looks satisfied for a moment before his face morphs into a glare. “THEN WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?”
“Oww, do you have to shout?” The shortest one hisses.
“Skylar. Ann. Richardson.” He grinds out.
Oh no. Bruce think’s desperately, Please tell me that’s not why Clark was looking at them in shock.
“Of all the Stupid Stunts that can be pulled you choose to lead a DRAKON into the MINE FIELD????” The kid is still ranting.
Skylar pulls off their helmet to reveal an alarmingly familiar face.
“It worked, didn’t it?” She asks pointedly.
“That’s Not The Point!” Flannel shrieks. “You Almost Died!”
“We always almost die.” Connor points out.
“Do not start with me, Connor Stoll.” A finger is pointed at his chest.
“Will.” Sky leans forward and grabs Will’s hand. “We’re fine. I’m fine. We’re ok.” She glances up and balks slightly at the sight of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman standing before them.
Blinking a few times she opens her mouth again. “….On second thought, maybe you should check me for a concussion… I think I’m hallucinating the Justice League.”
Chuckling slightly, Diana reaches out a hand and pulls her to her feet. “You are not hallucinating, young one. We have recently discovered your existence and are here to offer whatever aid we can provide.”
“Oh.” Skylar says faintly. "Cool."
