Reunions
1.
Once all was said and done, each of them back aboard the Millennium Falcon as it accelerated away from the Death Star, Obi-wan finally dared to let himself take a deep breath, and let it back out in a shaky gasp.
And then Leia practically tackled him.
“Ben,” she whispered, nothing but pure desperation in her voice. He carefully hugged her in return, one hand rubbing up and down the girl’s back, her emotions forming a minor maelstrom in the Force. “Ben-!”
“I know,” Obi-wan murmured. “I know. I felt it, when Aldreaan- went.”
That single word did it. All of Leia’s fury went pouring away, overwhelmed by sheer grief instead. Her people, aboard the captured ship- her people, trapped upon their homeworld-
Her people, serving in the Rebellion, who would surely be the next to fall.
To her immense credit, Leia summoned the strength to pull herself back together only a short time later. Each emotion carefully settled back into place; her scattered thoughts aligned once more. “Ben- or- General Kenobi, I suppose.”
Obi-wan couldn’t help a small smile, one hand still remaining on her shoulder. “For you, my dear, Ben. Always.”
2.
They’d only barely disembarked when a voice called to him; more than that, a flare in the Force, seeking his attention, caused Obi-wan to turn. “Master Kenobi,” the man approaching him said again, sounding at once relieved and amazed. “I don’t suppose- you remember me?”
By appearance alone, certainly not. But beyond the man’s facemask and brown hair, past the clothes and scars and weapons, Obi-wan felt a distantly familiar flicker.
“Caleb Dume,” he murmured, a little amazed himself. The younger Jedi grinned, reaching, and they grasped one another easily. Obi-wan tried to figure out what else to say, where to even begin, when another flicker caught his attention. Little fingers were reaching up behind Dume’s shoulder, attempting to grasp at the long drape of his tied-back hair. “And who might this ambitious soul be?”
“Jacen. This is Jacen.” With a careful maneuver, Dume brought around the sling which had been situated against his back, revealing the very small youngling nestled within - barely half a year old, if Obi-wan guessed right. “He’s my son; mine and Hera Syndulla.”
“Cham’s daughter?” That certainly came as a surprise. Although, despite his human face and size, the boy did possess unusually dark green hair, and very slightly pointed ears with paler green skin at the tips.
“Yes sir. She remembers you and Master Windu fondly.” Jacen reached upward again, this time aiming for his father’s beard, which Dume allowed with patient fondness. “I realize things are about to get very chaotic, but would you like to meet her again? And the rest of our crew?”
“I would like that very much indeed.”
3.
Luke proved to be his father’s son, and a perfectly aimed shot destroyed the monstrous space station threatening to blast them all into oblivion.
Even better, Captain Solo pulled off a change of heart, and somehow managed to land a shot of his own upon Vader’s personal fighter, knocking the Sith Lord out of the fight and sending him spiraling into the void of space. It wasn’t enough to kill him, Obi-wan knew that good and well, but the burst of outrage stood out sharply during the battle, and thinking of it afterward managed to put a small, wry smile on his face.
“General.”
And then all traces of amusement vanished, when someone sought him out in his quiet corridor, removed from the loud celebrations occupying most of the rebel base.
“...I can’t say I dislike the beard,” Obi-wan said after a moment, running a thumb against his own facial hair, “But the lack of any blonde whatsoever is highly disconcerting, Captain.”
Rex snorted, and took the final few steps to come within arm’s reach of him. “You’re one to talk, sir.”
“Well, I have spent the past nineteen years trying to keep one Skywalker or the other out of trouble.” They each shared a brief grin, before turning somber once more. “It is good to see you, Rex.”
“And you as well, General. But you’ll forgive me if I skip the hug- Ahsoka ought to squeeze you tight enough for the both of us, once she gets here.”
Just like that, Obi-wan’s spirit lifted an entire order of magnitude.

It was a simple plan: ask a friend to give me a prompt that wouldn't end up being 10,000 words long for free day because the perfect Kanera moment wasn't jiving for me. The result? A 24,000 word sampling of hurt, comfort, smut, angst, and happy non-canon compliant endings that kind of has a perfect Kanera moment, all separated into their own sections so you, the reader, can choose your own adventure.
Set at the beginning and following through The Protector of Concord Dawn all the way to post-canon, you the awesome fucking reader that you are, will be able to chose from the following:
Option A:
Chapter 1 (rated T with CW): Hurt, No Comfort (PLEASE mind the content warning on this chapter) Chapter 2 (rated T): Comfort Chapter 3 (rated E): Emotional Hurt Comfort/Injury Recovery, Now in Extra Spicy Chapter 4 (rated T): Happy Fix-It Endings
Option B:
You can just throw away all intentions of doing anything productive for the next couple hours and cram all 24,100 words of this accidental bad boy into one rollercoaster ride of pain, grieving Kanan, comfort, sex, snarky doctors, and a big ol' fuck you canon finish.
Kanera Week Day 7: Perfect Kanera Moment/Free Day

Star Wars Rebels thoughts
Even though they tried to justify it, I still think it would have worked better if Kanan was the one to disappear (but in S4) and Ahsoka actually died, no take-backs, in S2.
Also, I’d have far preferred it if Jacen was an adopted kid of Hera and Kanan. Setting aside the hybrid impossibility (even if it was a Force-given miracle, it still squicks me), what Hera endured while captive was... not conducive to pregnancy, and I hate it.
The main positive of the final eps of S4 was Ezra. He’s amazing, and that character arc across the seasons was very well done. I teared up at “one last time”. That was “in service of the plot” done right.
Kanan’s end wasn’t, and Ahsoka’s part of the S2 finale would have had even more impact if her end was definitive. Just... replace Ahsoka with Kanan (and/or Ezra, once, you know, he’s actually found) in any later Star Wars media, and be done with it.
(We just finished watching Rebels last week and... yeah.)

Without hope, we have nothing.
(Spoilers and speculation included a bit further down)
This is actually a post about the Bad Batch and not Star Wars Rebels, but this bit is important so...
Try not to cry when you remember that Tech is the one who taught Hera Syndulla how to mask her ship's signature, a move that made her a massive threat to the Empire and a move that she often used to her advantage. She was such a threat to the Empire that they wanted to capture her alive so they could make an example of her for her years of defiance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then also try not to cry when you remember that when Hera was taken prisoner by the Empire, Kanan Jarrus sacrificed his life to free her and save the future of the Rebellion. Try not to cry when you think about the fact that Kanan Jarrus aka Caleb Dume was the Jedi padawan the Bad Batch protected (except for Crosshair) from the Empire during Order 66 by claiming Hunter killed him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hunter, Tech, Wrecker and Echo lied to the Empire to protect a Jedi.
And Tech taught Hera how to evade the Empire when the Bad Batch helped her family (Chopper included) escape Ryloth after being accused of treason.
Clone Force 99's actions had a direct outcome on the success of the Rebellion. They refused to commit treason against the Republic and all they did was commit treason against the Empire. They were strong enough to resist the effects of the inhibitor chip (Crosshair and Wrecker for awhile), outright ignored Order 66 (Hunter and Tech), or were tortured and turned partially into a machine against his will by the Techno Union and used as a weapon against the Republic who, upon rescue, immediately jumped back into Separatist territory and fucked their asses up (Echo). Luckily, with the help of Rex, they got their chips removed after Wrecker tried to kill all of them.
Everything under the cut is pure speculation. I'm having a galaxy brain moment, I just have no idea if it's pointing me in the right direction or not lol.
If you disagree with me, I don't need you to rudely tell me why.
After his time on Tantiss, Crosshair can now identify with Echo more than anyone else in the Bad Batch (and Tech if CX-2 is Tech).
When they went to rescue Echo, Crosshair is the one who snidely told Captain Rex that he would have left Echo behind too.
Which is exactly what happened to Crosshair when the Empire turned him into a weapon against his own brothers. He had no choice because the Empire attached him to a machine and amped up the effect of his inhibitor chip so he could not disobey orders.
Rex told Cody "I think Echo is still alive" and Cody told him that was impossible. Anakin accompanied him on this rescue mission with The Bad Batch (we know Cody would have too if he hadn't been injured).
I think that if Tech is CX-2, Crosshair already knows or highly suspects it. He's terrified of Tantiss. I think we're going to have a parallel moment of Crosshair possibly saying the same thing, knowing that he could never leave a brother behind again after what he went through, especially if CX-2 is Tech. (I also wouldn't be surprised if Omega suspected something after her trip back to Tantiss with CX-2.)
We never saw Echo's body after the explosion. Instead we got this image. An empty helmet and a droid arm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crosshair defected from the Empire when he witnessed the Empire tell him that Mayday was only a clone and not worth giving medical attention to. Those actions resulted in the death of Mayday and that's when Crosshair chose to shoot an Imperial officer between the eyes (similar to Dogma's execution of General Krell in many ways).
If Tech is CX-2, that is the second Bad Batcher the Empire has turned into an enemy against his brothers.
This is the last we saw of Tech.
Tumblr media
Hemlock was fucking lying when he said that Tech's glasses were all they recovered. Why the hell would he have found Tech's glasses and not Tech? All we see below him are clouds. And this is the last bit of Tech we see. That gun is in the shot with his glasses for a reason.
Tumblr media
I feel like this is going to parallel Echo's rescue from Skako Minor. Tech and Echo are both highly intelligent huge ass nerds (remember that the battle plans being used against the Republic were written by both Rex and Echo, and Cody acknowledged that Rex was one of their best strategists in the GAR) who always ended up working best together.
Part of me wonders if we are heading into a show centered on the clone troopers in a post Order 66 world going up against the Empire as they try to rescue more of their brothers. Enough to become a problem for the Empire.
Part of me also wonders if the inclusion of Force sensitive children in the Bad Batch means Rex will need to call Ahsoka into the fray. Wolffe has only appeared once so he hasn't even switched sides, let alone even started blocking Ahsoka's messages to Rex yet. During the Clone Wars she had to save Force sensitive children from Darth Sidious. During the Rebellion, the saved more Force sensitive children from Darth Sidious. It makes me wonder if she is also going to save Force sensitive children from this too? I might be reaching a bit too much here, but it could be a possibility! She seems to always show up when Force sensitive children need to be rescued from Darth Sidious.
No matter what ending we get for the Bad Batch, I know it's going to leave us with hope for the future because the message in Star Wars has always shown us that hope will always be stronger than fear.
A simple act of kindness can fill a galaxy with hope.
Without hope, we have nothing.
These episodes are all relevant to Echo's journey. The Domino Squad was referred to as a bad batch and Echo was the one who seemed to struggle the most with orders that conflicted with doing what needed to be done. He is the one who memorized the regulations manual after all. And now the Bad Batch are on a similar journey because they have never trusted regs before, but now it seems they might have to trust the regs to come to help them the way they helped Rex and Echo before the war ended. The way they helped Gregor after the war ended.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but that's a fanfic I can always write!! I don't want to get into who I think is going to die or survive, but I have my suspicions there too and I'm already in too much pain to keep going.

Rebels S4 “bonus episode”
An outline of sorts, with some metatext moments because that was the easiest way to summarise/ time-skip. Expands on the ramblings in this post.
0 BBY:
During the final moments of Jedi Night, Kanan was secretly captured. Imagine that Pryce, after ordering the stormtroopers to fire on the fuel pod, had a second gunship (one she wasn’t on) swoop closer “to secure anyone who falls.”
In this AU, Ezra helped Kanan hold back the fire from the beginning… until the second gunship swooped near. Kanan told Ezra, “Leave! NOW!” then Force-pushed Ezra and Hera back to their gunship. The second gunship cut him off from the rest, just as the flames surged higher.
Ezra had to prioritise Hera’s safety and the overall mission, so they left. Seconds later, boom! The fuel pod went up. The crew see several Imperial gunships speed away from the spreading explosion. Kanan’s survival was a large question mark, rather than definitively one way or the other.
Ezra was certain Kanan was still alive. Zeb, Sabine, Rex etc. weren’t so sure. Hera wanted to side with Ezra, but acted like she sided with the others. So Dume would be about Ezra facing up to all that and having to choose – go on a potentially fruitless search for Kanan, or complete the broader mission to free Lothal? Etc.
The rest of Rebels S4 happened like canon. Except that there was no World-Between-Worlds rescue of Ahsoka, and the final episode finished without the epilogue. Instead, there would be “bonus episode(s)”… set five years later.
5 ABY:
After Ezra’s disappearance, Hera held onto Ezra’s hope about Kanan. She threw herself into the Rebellion to cope with her grief. Still, she couldn’t help searching for Kanan in every Imperial base they captured.
One such mission occurred some months after the Battle over Endor. Hera had been glad of an excuse to leave Lothal for a while – an excuse to be doing something other than sit around and watch Sabine prepare for her journey to find Ezra. Hera wanted to join that journey, too… but there was still so much work she was needed for in the Rebellion-turned-New-Republic. She was a leader, and couldn’t abandon them now. Sabine, however, was more of a free agent, and her Mandalorian family understood that she had a Quest to fulfill.
On the mission, Hera was assisted by Luke Skywalker, as sometimes occurred. Usually, these days, his presence meant the base had a higher likelihood of having been used by a Force sect of some kind. Hera didn’t mind. It was nice, having someone like him around. Someone who spoke of the Force so freely, understood it so easily. And he was Ezra’s age – he reminded Hera of him at times. Not to mention that Luke was Princess Leia’s brother, and an excellent pilot. They had plenty to talk about.
(Likewise, Luke liked Hera – Leia had several stories of her, and he’d seen her himself here and there during the Rebellion. He knew of Hera’s past, her history with the two Jedi of Lothal. Sometimes she told him things about them, or passed on things she’d learned about the Jedi from them.)
It turned out to be a good thing Luke was on that mission, and that Hera was the one leading it. The Imperial base they’d set their sights on held a number of young sentients as prisoners. Most of whom were Force-sensitive. Hera was deeply saddened. “So that’s how they made Inquisitors,” she said. Luke was rattled by it, and by the evidence that confirmed Hera’s hunch: the place had once been a training base.
Luke rang Leia, while Hera called in some of her own contacts. They took the group to Lothal, as it was the easiest home base. During the journey, a bond grew between a young Twi’lek boy called Jacen, and Hera. Jacen took a particular liking to Hera, following her around and asking questions.
When Jacen wasn’t with the others at bedtime on their first night in space, Luke went looking. Finding him, as expected, in Hera’s cabin. Luke and Hera talked while Jacen slept. Hera revealed that Jacen reminded her of what a younger Ezra could have been… and also, strangely, of Kanan.  Somehow.
Hera found herself caring for the boy, though her heart ached. She told him stories of the Ghost crew, including Kanan and Ezra. Jacen listened, and asked why stories about the two Jedi made Hera sad. She told him.
Later, after they’d landed on Lothal, Hera took the young group to see the Mural, and other now-famous sites, with Luke’s help. At the mural, Jacen was quite taken with Ezra and Kanan’s images. Especially Kanan’s. “That’s… that’s Kanan? I thought his name was Caleb.” When pressed, Jacen explained, “I keep seeing him in my dreams. Since before you rescued us. He needs rescuing, too.”
Luke and Hera stared at each other. “He’s telling the truth,” Luke said. “Kanan’s alive,” Hera whispered. “Ezra was right.” Hera rounded up the rest of her family. Luke contacted his. Then they began to plan.
Following Jacen’s intuition, they searched across the galaxy… eventually finding Kanan, frozen in carbonite, at another old Inquisitor base. One Leia remembered, from when she was kidnapped years ago. An attack was launched, and Kanan (and others) rescued. Despite being told to stay on the ship, Jacen did end up helping.
Kanan was removed from the carbonite carefully, and immediately given medical treatment for his fuel-pod fire injuries. Some months later, the expedition to search for Ezra prepares to leave… with Kanan joining Sabine on it.
Hera stayed behind with her Marshal of the New Republic responsibilities, though she insisted on regular holo-calls. Jacen stayed with her.

kanan and hera were partners (yes they were) and living together for ~10 years, they were probably so used to it that they do things for each other without a second thought. it's just part of their livestyle.
there are chores and mundane tasks that they do for each other. part of kanan's nighttime routine is checking on hera and reminding her go to sleep. the first taungsday of every month hera helps him trim his beard. when hera does grocery runs she gets kanan's favourite snack even though she hates it herself. kanan makes some meiloorun dessert every few weeks because it makes her happy. their lives are so intertwined.
and it hits hera especially hard how much her routines change without kanan. when she was pregnant her whole schedule was fucked anyway, but after having jacen she can't go back to her normal because kanan was such a big part of it.
the first time hera goes to make caf after giving birth, she's so tired and she grabs 2 cups, because that's what she always did, and she's halfway through making it before realising she doesn't need 2 cups anymore.

Does anyone want a fanfic of the reunion with Hera and Ezra and have Kanan be there as well just because he is? Like imagine after Ezra says hi Hera I'm home then Hera will run in Ezra's arms and then Kanan just shows up. At first Ezra is confused and has so many questions, then he's like the heck with it and then he smiles and runs to Kanan in a tackle hug 😁😂😭
