Tumblr media
The whole car drive back home was horrible. You started letting your thoughts get to you. Were you too dramatic? Was it too much to let all that out while he is struggling as well? Should you just suck it up and let the season end before talking about this? Maybe. However, the conversation escalated very quickly and before you know it you just let your heart out. When you got home, you thought of calling your best friend, but you didn’t. The last thing you wanted to do was recall everything that happened. You took everything out of your overnight bag, got showered, did your normal skin care routine and feel asleep with your headphones on listening to sad music.
The night before you didn’t even bother to check your messages to see if Mason had asked if you got in okay. You were hoping he would text you today at least. You opened your messages and nothing, nothing from him at least. Sophia had texted you asking what your plans were for the weekend suggesting having a drink today at the new rooftop bar. You had nothing else to do at night and staying at home dwelling on what happened did not seem like a good plan. You agreed and put your phone down, ready to continue with more work stuff. You had to admit, it hurt that he hadn’t texted you. It sting you, normally if you guys would bicker or argue he would always text you something reassuring, but then again you said you were done. Did you mean it as a breakup? Not really, but how would he know.
Mason on the other hand did not get any sleep at all. He replayed your argument over and over again. He knew he fucked up, but he knew you were also right. All these big decisions, he hadn’t thought through them carefully yet. It kind of bugged him you knew him like the back of your hand. He knows you know how he feels just by simply looking at him. Since he was injured and it was game day, he decided to just stay home and watch the game there. He had meetings with other agents in the morning and his mom was coming over later in the day. Watching the game he thought about texting you, but he didn’t know if you needed space or if you were even together still. He didn’t text, opting for giving you space for the weekend.
Mason heard the front door open and saw his mom come in. Still on the couch watching the game, he got up and greeted her “Hi mom” with a smile, a sad one. “Hi darling” Debbie said smiling and hugged him. He noticed she stared at him for a little bit and knew she could tell something was wrong. You and his mom had that in common, you could read him so easily. “Why didn’t you go to the bridge today?” “I had a meeting 30 minutes before kick off and would not make it in time, also thought it would be nice to stay in”. They both sat down on the couch and continued watching the game for a little bit until Debbie spoke again “I thought y/n would be here today, where is she, how is she?” she asked smiling. You and Debbie had a great relationship and Mason loved it. You would always have coffee dates and in big family gatherings you would always stick with her because it felt more safe. Mason stopped looking towards the tv to respond, “Yea she’s alright, she’s home busy doing work stuff” “My gosh that poor girl works all the time, last time I saw her she said it was taking a toll on her” “Yea I know”. Mason didn’t know what to say. After last night, the only thing he could think of when he thought of you was the fight. “Mhm” “What is it” “Mason Mount, I gave birth to you, do you think I don’t know you?” Shit. He knew she could sense something was off. I mean if he was going to get advice on his relationship, he never thought his mom would be the first option but here they were. “It’s nothing, we just had a bit of an argument last night” he placed the remote down on the table, got up to make some tea. He knew his mom would not just be satisfied with that, he knew she would be here all afternoon interrogating him so the tea was necessary. Mason and his mom talked about it, for a while. “Listen darling, I’m your mom and I won’t tell you what to do in your relationship. You two work together, and lately you haven’t and that is not a crime. You two are allowed to fight, to make mistakes, to get annoyed, however, in a relationship you owe it to each other to try and fix it and make it work. Give her space, trust me she is probably thinking about you too. And as with the contract, honey whatever you decide to do will be the best option, but make sure it’s what you want.” Mason felt a lot better talking to his mom. She really understood him and having spent time with you too, she knew you would appreciate exactly what she had said.
It was 9 pm and you were just finishing getting ready to go out with Sophia. You had worked all day so had little to no time to think about Mason. You knew it would come up tonight. Sophia was one of your best friends and whenever both of you had issues with Mason or Kai you were there for each other. You ordered your uber and just as you were about to leave, Mason texted you. You opened your messages to read, “Hi my love, I wanted to give you space today and I knew you had a lot of work so that’s why I didn’t text sooner. I know it’s weird between us right now but whenever you’re ready to talk I’m here”. A wave of relief hit you, you wanted him to text you, so you knew it was not over completely. You didn’t want to answer yet though. The uber arrived and got in it to go to the bar. When you arrived, Sophia was already there. She greeted you with a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. You loved nights like this, were you and her could talk about online drama, funny TikTok’s you saw and just catch up on everything especially since you had not seen her for a while. It was nearly 11 pm, you had no idea where time went by. “When should we do it then?” Sophia asked. Both of you thought it would be a good idea to spend the weekend at the Soho farmhouse, mainly her but you weren’t sure since you didn’t know when you and Mason were going to be good again. “I don’t know, maybe next weekend” “Yea we’ll have to check with them to see how their scheduling is. And we should also tell Chilly and his new girl, I met today at the bridge she is very sweet you will like her.” “Great yea, the more the merrier” you said smiling. “Okay it’s been two hours, I’ve been holding in asking you because I thought you would already tell me but what’s wrong?” You sighed knowing you had to remember everything form yesterday and tell her. You told her everything from the fight, to work to family issues and to how you were feeling. “Babe, why didn’t you tell me you were feeling like this?” “I don’t know I feel like I don’t even have time to think about myself”. The mix of alcohol and remembering last night made you tear up a bit. Sophia hugged you, “I know its tough now and yea he fucked up but I am 100% sure he already knows. I feel bad for him too because he is going through a lot too. But you guys are a couple, partners, boyfriend and girlfriend. You two just need to talk. You already told him how you felt, he needs to tell you how he feels because I’m sure he has been holding it in too. You two will get through it I promise.” You looked at her with a sad smiled and hugged her tight.
You arrived home at 12 pm. Before falling asleep you decided to text Mason back, you knew he would be freaking out since you hadn’t responded. “Hey, I kind of figured. I feel like we both need time to think, but I love you and we’ll talk when were ready” he responded very quickly with a heart and an “I love you too” which put a smile on your face. You knew he was eager to see you and talk to you, so were you but you were right you both need time. You need to think about how to manage work better, your family and how to fix things with him and make him open up to you. He needs to think about how to open up to you, think about his future and think about the upcoming games and prepare.
4 days had passed since that night. You were busy with work still, but you were finding different ways to handle it and asked your boss for more help on the projects you were assigned. Mason had been doing some light training. The conversation he had with his mom put him at ease and made him think about the whole situation better. Your conversation with Sophia also helped a lot and it gave a new perspective on this whole thing. During these 4 days without seeing each other both of you had time to think, and you were still texting each other simple “Hellos” or just casual conversations. But it was not the same as before and it hurt both of you. Both of you just wanted to go back together to how it was. It hadn’t even been a week but it felt like torture.
After coming home from work, you saw Sophia’s close friend story. It was a picture of her two dogs in Mason’s backyard. Weird, she would’ve told you she was seeing Mason. You didn’t think too much about it and hopped on the shower. Once you were done you checked your phone and had multiple messages. Sophia had created a group chat called “SOHO”. Fuck. Well that explained why she was at Mason’s house, they were probably planning the weekend with Kai and Chilly. If they really wanted to do it soon, it meant you and Mason would probably still be in a weird place. Sophia sent a message saying, “Okay I just added Ben and Alix, I made the reservation for this weekend Friday through Saturday so we should leave all together early in the morning to spend the whole day there and leave like 5 pm Saturday?” Everyone responded with thank yous and yes. This Friday? So, you had what, two days to try and talk to Mason? It was not going to be possible. You were trying to finish everything during the week from work so you had the weekend free and had to visit your family so seeing him would be impossible. Would it be awkward to see him until Friday and act as if nothing happened? Maybe. But you had no choice really. As you were finishing reading all the messages form the road trip, Mason sent you one “Will you be able to go?” you started typing “Yes I can go, although I won’t be able to see you until Friday”. You plopped your phone on your bed and finished getting ready for bed. When you came back to lay down on your bed, Mason had already responded “That’s okay love, I’ll see you Friday. I love you, we’ll be alright.” That melted your heart so much. It made you more confident in how you two were dealing with this little break if you can call it that. You replied with an I love you too and went to bed.
The rest of the week you continued grinding out at work, trying to finish everything so you had nothing to worry about while you were away. On thursday you were able to visit your family, which was something you were dreading. It turned out to be surprisingly nice, and you felt better about the whole situation. You were very optimistic about the trip, you thought it would be a good idea to have some time just with Mason during one of the two days. You started looking at it in a better light now that you had kind of solved two big problems in your life, now you had to solve the most important.

Love is an Unfamiliar Name (Pt. 7)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Pedro Pascal x f!reader
Wordcount: 2,1 k
Warnings: friends talking about sex, basically an allusion, no big deal.
A/N: In this slightly longer (and quite sad) chapter we have a Pedro who is a bit... let's say a jerk . but along the we will understand why this kind of behavior is happening, I swear haha
PART SIX
——————
Fear (Of the Unknown)
"Neeeeext," Jenny demanded, munching on a bag of Takis while perched on the couch. "I want all the juicy details, girl." You finally met the girls at Jenny’s room on Sunday night after spending the whole day at Pedro’s.
"Well, we have to give the guy credit," Amy chimed in, reclining at the end of Jenny's bed. "I can't even remember the last time you had a sleepover with a man. He must've really impressed you to change your mind."
"Hey, it's not like we were going at it like rabbits," you chuckled, the memory still fresh in your mind. "We talked a lot too. It just felt like any other day, you know? Even during sex, we found our rhythm quickly."
"Have you noticed how radiant her skin looks?" Amy observed, peering at you with curiosity as you sat in the middle of the bed.
"Fuck, you're glowing!" Jenny exclaimed in surprise. "We'll have to find out what his secret is." You simply laughed it off.
"He really paid attention to what I wanted, always checking if I was comfortable," you admitted shyly. "But he could also be quite dominant. And like I said, we had some deep conversations in between... activities," you finished with a silly grin.
"My friend, I have some news for you," Amy interjected with a laugh. "It's a good thing that you finally let yourself date someone you've known for a while, it is way better than with some random shit—and you’re going to have to swallow your pride and admit that this guy was good. You probably didn’t let him know, but he got you on your knees.”
"He got me at least three or four times that I can remember," you chuckled.
"Come on!" Jenny playfully tossed a Taki at you.
"I'd pay to see that," Amy teased. "YOU," she pointed at you, bursting into song, "Just like a prayer, you know I'll take you there." She laughed.
"It was definitely a great point of view; I can't deny that." You smiled, feeling a shiver of excitement run down your spine.
"Amy, look at her. SHE IS FUCKING SMILING," Jenny pointed out, munching on her Takis.
"And to think he was so nervous about approaching her," Amy added, causing both you and Jenny to look at her in shock. She realized her mistake.
"WHAT?!" You and Jenny exclaimed simultaneously, eager for more information. Amy tried to backtrack, claiming it was obvious, but you pressed her for details.
"Please don't tell Timmy I told you this," Amy pleaded, disappointed in herself. "Remember that night you were feeling down, and he joined you on the patio? You two spent the night together. He was feeling confused and guilty for maybe mixing things up, so he confided in Timmy."
"And why are you telling this now, Amy?" You snapped, a hint of irritation in your voice. "I could've been having this great sex all this time. Single people also deserve happiness, you know," you added sarcasticly.
"Timmy only told me at the pub! before we went to check on you," Amy explained. "I was mad at him too, ok? But he told him that you're not someone to mess with. If he screws up and you decide to leave, you'll walk away just like you did before." Tim knew you; he had seen you broken before.
"Well… that explains a lot," you mused, recalling your conversations from the previous night when he decided to explain himself.
You jetted off to LA for a few days as planned, but true to your workaholic nature, you managed to squeeze in a business meeting during your vacation. After years of toiling on scores and earning some awards such as an Academy and a Golden Globe, you now have the luxury of being selective with your projects. The upcoming project was one you couldn't afford to pass up.
Your conversations with Pedro continued as usual, but as you boarded your flight on Monday, a nagging fear crept in—would he suddenly disappear? You didn't want that to happen; the memory of your past involvement with someone you had a prior connection to still haunted you.
Despite your reservations, you decided to give it a chance. Spending a long night with people you had no attachment to was much easier, you understood why the girls were excited to see you with someone you shared a connection with. And from your conversations with him, you learned that his friends felt the same.
A lingering question plagued your mind: Two different people, same traumas. Could it possibly work?
You pushed that thought aside, refusing to indulge in self-sabotage this time. You were enjoying yourself and didn't want to ruin a good thing. Upon returning to Canada, you and Pedro found yourselves in a rather funny situation—sneaking into each other's rooms like teenagers trying to evade their parents' watchful eyes.
Both of you excelled at maintaining a professional demeanor during the day, and no one would suspect that you were secretly meeting in the middle of the night. You were admired for your serious demeanor, while Pedro's easygoing nature was already known. Despite your differences, you both managed to keep your clandestine rendezvous under wraps, maintaining the facade of being nothing more than good friends.
In the past few months, you have been seeing each other at least once a week, a frequency that felt just right for you. With both of you thriving in your careers, it was important not to let things spiral out of control. So, when Pedro broached the topic of aligning your schedules to spend more time together, you felt a sense of relief. It was evident that he was trying to downplay his excitement about seeing you more often, but you welcomed the conversation, knowing it was a discussion you had also been considering.
You made sure to let him know that after the post-production phase, you would go on tour with Mended Fragments, so it would be harder to meet during these months, but with the tour ending, you would have a break, which he acknowledged and agreed, considering he had his own projects.
As usual, you meticulously planned the agenda for the following two weeks, which included a trip to New York to produce a quick soundtrack for a runway show while assisting your team via Zoom. Additionally, you had been invited to the show’s after-party, where Jenny would accompany you, presenting an excellent opportunity for networking and reconnecting with familiar faces, so you had a good feeling about it. During a post sex conversation, you discovered that Pedro would also be attending the same event.
"She's a good friend I made during my time in New York, so I'll finally have some free time to catch up with her. Oscar is also attending," Pedro mentioned, his gaze fixed on you as you both layed on the bed.
"Wow, I had no idea you knew her. Vivienne sounds like a lovely person," you replied. "She was blown away by Rick's show in Paris last season, so she reached out to him to know who the composer was, and that's how we met—even though you didn't ask," you added playfully, planting a kiss on his shoulder.
"I would ask, but you're quite quick, baby," he said, his demeanor distant as if his mind were elsewhere, which made you feel quite bothered.
"Is everything okay?" you asked softly, pulling away from his embrace to look him in the eyes.
"Yeah, it is; you just wore me out a bit, that's all," he replied, though you sensed he was not being entirely truthful. Or perhaps it was just your own mind playing tricks on you. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, you decided to let it go, so you kept talking.
"It'll be nice to see you there without anyone from work around," you said without hiding your smile. "I mean, being able to talk to you without having to sneak around like thieves." Your excitement was palpable.
"Well, baby...” Your smile faded, his tone felt weird. “I think it's best if we keep things as they are now. It's not like we have anything serious going on to show up at a party as a couple," he said, getting up to get dressed. His words stung like daggers, piercing through your skin. "It's almost 7 a.m. I should head back to my room."
"I never said anything about us being a couple, Pedro," you retorted, your tone sharp with frustration. "I simply mentioned meeting you at a party you were already planning to attend. I'm not suggesting anything." You were hurt by his sudden change in behavior.
"Okay. I just don't want us to misunderstand things," he said, noticing the glint of tears in your eyes. "I really enjoy what we have, baby, but it's more of a close friendship with benefits, isn't it?"
You couldn't understand why he was bringing this up out of nowhere. Perhaps it was the tequila you both had indulged in due to exhaustion. While you tried to make sense of his actions, you refused to throw a fit at that moment. You wouldn't give him the satisfaction of seeing you beg for his affection.
"If that's how you see it," you replied curtly, masking your hurt with sarcasm. "I must have misunderstood, but thank you for clarifying. I guess I'll see you at the party then. I'll be leaving on Monday."
"I thought you were supposed to leave on Wednesday," he remarked, surprised. "So, I won't get to see you?" Closing the distance between you, he attempted to embrace you, now fully dressed, while you stood by the bed, wrapped in a blanket.
"No," you answered firmly.
"I'm going to miss this body," he said, adjusting your hair, his breath tinged with the scent of alcohol. You held back tears, refusing to let them fall.
"Is the body all you'll miss?" you asked, trying to maintain a facade of strength.
"Is there anything else to miss?" he replied, deliberately cruel. It felt as though he wanted to see you break down in tears, solely because of him. He wouldn’t let you win this argument.
"Leave,” you were about to break. “Go have a shower and eat something, you’re fuckin drunk.” Your voice was trembling. You were also quite dizzy.
His gaze lingered on you, taken aback by your response. It wasn’t the plea for attention he anticipated. Why hadn’t you begged for his affection? Though he wanted to express his regret and admit he'd miss you, he needed validation from you. It was then that he realized he had screwed things up. You held the door open, silently urging him to depart. As he reluctantly exited your room, he reached out, attempting to grasp your hand.
"Please, just go," you stated firmly, unwavering in your resolve. And so, he left. Without a word.
Two hours later, after shedding all the tears you had in you, a message from Pedro lit up your phone screen. "Sorry for what I said." You decided to ignore him, but the persistent ringing of your phone indicated that he was calling. Reluctantly, you answered. "What?"
"Babe, I'm sorry.” He started, “I shouldn't have drunk that much. I was upset about work shit that happened yesterday, and I took it out on you—It's not your fault, please,” he added. ” I was a jerk, and I'm sorry for being mean to you. I'm really sorry, baby."
"Okay, anything else?" you responded coldly.
"Baby, I'm fuckin scared—what we have... it scares me," his voice quivered, betraying his own tears. “I don’t want to fuck things up; I truly don’t—”
"Listen, I always make an effort to see things from your perspective, Pedro. I hope you can do the same for me now," You wanted to express more, but you held back. "I don't want to talk to you right now, okay? Can you respect that?"
"Babe, please..."
"Can you respect that?" you reiterated firmly.
"I can. I'm really sorry."
"Goodbye. See you at Vivienne's," you abruptly ended the call. All you wanted to do was cry. Little did you know Pedro was doing the same: crying about the cruel words he said to you. He wanted it to be just a friend with benefits kind of relationship, but deep down he knew it wasn’t, and he was scared. You both were.
“Imagine two complete strangers
Who suspect they were meant to be
Both in need of love and affection
Yet their suspicions prevent something heavenly
Fear takes control — fear of the unknown”

So . . . I was sent these.
A couple of you know I used to have a Beetlejuice x Lydia blog. Used to be into the fandom big time, since the movie first opened in 1988. Then, for reasons I won't get into, I lost interest in all things Beej.
But some people still read my Beej fics on AO3. And one of them sent me these photos from Beetlejuice 2. They also sent me the link to the article they appeared in.
So for you few Beetlebabes who still Follow me -- you know who you are -- here's the article.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”... Beetlejuice returns in first look at Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder
Nick Romano
Wed, March 20, 2024 at 9:00 AM CDT
Tumblr media
It's been 36 years, but once again, the juice is loose.
After reprising Batman in last year's The Flash, Michael Keaton returns to another iconic role in Entertainment Weekly's exclusive first look at Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the sequel to director Tim Burton's cult hit.
Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara also reprise their roles as Lydia and Delia Deetz, respectively, while Burton's Wednesday star Jenna Ortega plays Lydia's daughter Astrid, and The Leftovers star Justin Theroux plays Rory. Further details on Rory remain under wraps for now — unlike the titular "bio-exorcist."
The original Beetlejuice (1988) followed the recently deceased Barbara and Adam Maitland (Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin), who enlist the aid of the mischievous demon Beetlejuice/Betelgeuse (Keaton), to expel the current living residents of their home, the Deetz family. All hell, subsequently, breaks loose.
The sequel picks up decades later with a death in the family. "That's all I will say," Burton tells EW in an interview. "There's something that happens that sets things in motion." Could that be the death of Lydia's father, Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones)? The director plays coy: "We'll see." One thing's for sure, Beetlejuice comes back into play.
Burton describes getting Keaton back in the classic costume and makeup as "a weird out-of-body experience."
"He just got back into it," the filmmaker behind 1989's Batman (also starring Keaton) and 1993's The Nightmare Before Christmas recalls. "It was kind of scary for somebody who was maybe not that overly interested in doing it. It was such a beautiful thing for me to see all the cast, but he, sort of like demon possession, just went right back into it."
Tumblr media
Burton says he and Keaton have talked about a sequel on and off over the years. "Unless it felt right, he had no burning desire to do it," the director recalls. "I think we all felt the same way. It only made sense if it had an emotional hook."
Many concepts were floated around, some dating all the way back to the '80s, including a treatment set in Hawaii. "We talked about lots of different things," Burton says. "That was early on when we were going, Beetlejuice and the Haunted Mansion, Beetlejuice Goes West, whatever. Lots of things came up."
What they needed, however, was time. His actors, including Ryder and O'Hara, had all moved on to other projects after the original came out, and "nobody," Burton notes, "was really pushing for it." The filmmaker also admits he didn't initially (and still doesn't to some degree) understand the success of the first film, so he wasn't motivated to move forward with an idea that didn't excite him.
The hook he was looking for, as it turns out, revolves around Ryder's Lydia and bringing together three generations of Deetz women, including O'Hara's Delia and Ortega's Astrid. "I so identified with the Lydia character, but then you get to all these years later, and you take your own journey, going from cool teenager to lame adult, back and forth again," he explains. "That made it emotional, gave it a foundation. So that was the thing that really truly got me into it."
Other details on the film itself are being kept secret for now, other than the presence of Monica Bellucci (Spectre), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon), and Willem Dafoe (Poor Things) among the cast. (Dafoe previously disclosed his role as a B-movie action star who died and became a police officer in the Afterlife.) Burton feels "a bit jinx-y" about revealing such things, given that he's still shaping the movie in the editing phase. But he does confirm he'll be using stop-motion animation to bring a lot of the classic Beetlejuice effects to the screen. "It needed a back-to-basics, handmade quality," he says. "It reenergized why I love making movies."
And what about that title? Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. "It's been, what? Thirty-five years. So it didn't feel like Beetlejuice 2 to me," Burton says. "It didn't feel like that kind of a movie. The other one I thought of, because one of my favorite Dracula movies is Dracula A.D. 1972, was Beetlejuice 2024 A.D. But this was a nice simple one."
Just don't say the name one more time, or you risk summoning the man himself.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will hit theaters on Sept. 6.

Addendum: Was sent the link to this, too.
I'm . . . fearfully optimistic . . . .

The Buffy Re-watch: S1E8 (part 2)
I, Robot, You, Jane
How did Buffy follow Dave? He was driving a car all the way across town, how did she keep up?
Xander coming in with the useful info. He has lived in Sunnydale all his life (probably) and would know that the 3rd largest employer in the town had shut down. That would be huge news. Also his uncle worked there.
Buffy make a Spider-Man reference to spider senses and Giles does not understand. Probably thought she was turning into a spider demon. I do not want to see that.
Does anyone read out loud what they type? Just curious.
Oh Malcolm, you've showed your hand too soon my guy. Now Willow is mistrustful of you.
And back to the tech, good or bad, debate. Yes, it can help society but it can also hinder and stunt other parts to it too. Both Jenny and Giles have valid arguments, it's just about getting the right balance between the human and the virtual. That being said, say no to AI and support real people and their professions, eg artists, actors, writers etc. Please support the WGA and SAG-AFTRA during their on going strikes. Told you in my last post these tangents and rants would happen again, I knew they would because I wrote it in my notes.
So Moloch being the evil dick that he is, is erasing people medical histories as a nurse didn't know about a student's allergy and they most likely died as a result. Allergies are no joke.
Dave is being a sketchy guy and tries to kill Buffy by electrocution.
Dave was really just a good guy who got mixed up with the wrong ones, he didn't deserve his fate. But when did Fritz get behind him?
Next question: how did Buffy not notice the dead body in the room? She walked in pretty far and looked around but did not see the body until she bumped into it.
News reports on the radio in Giles' office about more shit that Moloch is doing.
Jenny knows about demons! Gasp. Though if you live in Sunnydale you probably should. It's no like they keep themselves hidden all the time.
You never see phonebooths anymore, the convenience of mobile phones rendered them obsolete. Though if you lose signal on you phone, run of of charge or just straight up lose/break your phone, phonebooths would be useful.
I kind of like the look of Moloch's tech body. It does give me Captain EO vibes though.
Okay, how realistic is it that neck breaks that cause instant death in the way the Moloch does? Paralysis I can understand, but sometimes you kind of doubt it if it really kills someone. I know he's a demon in tech body so will be very strong, but sometimes they just don't look like they would actually kill someone. Or I have seen Dr Mike react to them too much so now I'm doubting it too. But you bet your ass that I will be complaining about some of the chest compressions we'll see on this show.
A man planning an assassination attempt on his mother is not a good thing, Moloch. Unless she was a truly horrible person then could understand, but still extreme.
Our big bad is trapped in his tech body thanks to the work of Jenny and Giles and Buffy ends him with a well timed duck. I say that's good teamwork guys.
Giles is right, tactile experiences matter. It's linked so well with human memory that the absence of it can leave a memory harder recall.
Where does Jenny dangle the corkscrew from?
Buffy, Willow and Xander's dating histories will be littered with weirdness. Vampires, demons, witches, slayers and apparently a previously mystical ball of energy used to break down the barriers between worlds. Yeah, I know about Xander and Dawn getting together and having a baby in the comics. I do not know how I feel about that.
Tomorrow we talk about the horrors of puppets and talent shows.

an open letter to my ex which she'll never read
Preface
It's been nearly two years since I last posted here on my little ranting corner of the internet. A lot has happened, but I don't feel like writing about any of that right now.
Instead I'm here to mourn the end of a relationship. I don't say this to disparage any of my former partners or relationships, but none of my past breakups have hurt as much as this one, not even close.
So here's the letter.
I remember our first date, at the art museum. I barely recall any of the things we saw because I was too focused on you. You kept daring me to sit in the chairs on display, and I thought you were the prettiest and funniest woman I had ever met. I'd never brought anyone back to my house after only a first date, but that day I did, and I never regretted it.
We were so obsessed with each other in those early days. We saw each other three more times that first week, just the two of us mutually finding excuses to hang out with each other. Then I flew back to visit my parents, and we played Minecraft on your Realms server every single night, Monday through Friday.
It was beautiful, it was wonderful, it was magical. It felt like we just instantly had a deep connection. You'd never dyed your hair before, and I had never dyed anyone else's hair before, only my own, but you let me dye your hair purple. I was upset that the result was a little streaky, but you assured me that it was perfect and you loved it.
I brought you as my date to senior ball, and you looked positively stunning in that lovely cornflower blue gown with the train. I thought I was the luckiest person in the world to have you as my girlfriend.
Months passed. Things were going so well. You were supportive of my efforts to be healthier and get into running, and when I ran my first 5k in many years, you woke up early on a weekend to cheer me on. We got lunch after, and if you seemed a little off, a little distant, well, I thought you were maybe tired from the early wake-up, or stressed about other things.
And then the next day you came over and told me you wanted to talk. You were crying by the end, and so was I. But I thought there was maybe still a chance for us, some way to move forward.
I was utterly unprepared when you broke up with me the very next day.
It's been almost a month. I still don't understand why.
We were together for less than eight months. I don't think I ever left the honeymoon phase, but I suppose you did. Two weeks after the breakup, you wanted us to be friends.
Friends. I see. You're already over us.
I'm not. And I doubt that I will be for a very long time.
I loved you more than I've ever loved anyone else. I thought I'd marry you someday.
It's funny, I've been in love a number of times, but I've never had my heart broken like this.
I know I'll move on. Someday, we can be friends. Someday, my future kids will know you—not as Mom, but as an Auntie. Someday, we'll look back and laugh about how it's funny that we once dated.
But today, I'll just look back on our relationship and mourn the fairytale that was.

𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐚𝐲 💘
Tumblr media
𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, none as usual, just pure fluff
𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞, dick has rlly had me in a chokehold these last few days 🙁☝️
Tumblr media
Today was Valentines day. The day lovers exchanged gifts and greetings. Dick wanted to do the same. He was gonna make sure everything was absolutely perfect today. He wanted to tell you how much he loved, appreciated, and utterly adored you. Which is why he set up this whole thing for you.
You had just walked into your apartment and noticed the lights were off. "Dick? Where are you-?" You paused noticing the trail of candles accompanied by red and white rose petals on the floor. Oh? What had he planned?
You then began following the trail. While you were walking you started to see pictures of you and dick on the walls. The one that really caught your eye was you two on your first date.
You couldn't believe he'd kept that picture. Your first date was something special, I mean it is kinda the whole reason you two are together, however that's a story for another time.
As you got closer to the dining area of your apartment you were immediately entranced by the aroma. Did he cook for you? Did the Dick Grayson cook for you? Finally reaching the dining room you saw Dick standing in a tuxedo with one of your favorite flowers in hand.
"Oh!" You hands flew up to your mouth out of excitement and surprise. You haven't seen Dick were a tuxedo in like forever and this surprise was just genuinely shocking.
"Hello darling, I already have dinner under control as you can see." He said as he made a hand gesture towards the table. He then walked towards you and held out his hand.
"Come take a seat before the food gets cold."
He led you to the table and pulled out your chair, then rushing over to his seat.
"Dick, this is amazing, how did you pull this off?" You said looking at the room that had heart balloons and streamers everywhere. He just smiled and said,
"We'll talk about that later, I just want you too enjoy this for now."
"Well then, I feel a little bad. I didn't do anything this big or extravagant for you." You admitted sadly. Oh, Dick didn't want you to feel any type of way about what he did. He just wanted you too enjoy tonight. Plus your the only gift he needs anyway.
"It's fine, you being here right now is enough for me. Now let's eat." He said as he uncovered your dinners. It was your favorite food.
"Mhm! This smells amazing." You said wafting the aroma more into your face. Chuckling, dick responded with,
"I have too admit, Alfred did help me out with this."
Well even if he did get help from Alfred, he still cooked for you. I mean, it's the thought that counts right?
"Well I'll have to thank Alfred next time I see him then, huh?" You stated teasingly as you took a spoonful of the food.
"I guess you will."
For the rest of the dinner you two sat and recalled happy memories together and somehow, both of you could feel yourselves falling in love all over again if that was even possible.
During the dinner you were both reminded of how much you two we're absolutely devoted to each other. After you two we're done Dick then led you outside to the balcony. He looked a bit nervous. Like he had something to say and didn't know how.
"You okay baby? You look like you have something to say." You said softly looking into his eyes.
Here goes nothing. Dick was gonna tell you how he truly felt about you.
"Y/N, the moment I met you I felt like you were totally out my league, because you were you and I was, well, me. The way you carried yourself made me feel.. intimidated and I liked that. I've never met anyone like you before. You make me feel so loved. So appreciated. I feel like I could do anything and never fail as long as your by my side. So what I'm trying to say is."
He then got down on one knee and pulled out a stunning ring. Your hands once again flew straight over your mouth. Was this really happening? Was he proposing to you?
"Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?" He continued. You were in shock trying to process that the man of your dreams just asked you too marry him.
"I-I yes! Of course." You exclaimed happily as tears fell down your face. After he put the ring on your finger you pulled him by his tie and kissed him. The kiss was tender and overall just filled with absolute love. Pulling away from the kiss you said,
"Wow, this has got to be one of the best Valentine's day presents ever."
"I'm glad you liked it sweetheart, I'm also just glad you say yes because I don't know what I'd do if you didn't." He said relieved.
This was your happily ever after and you wouldn't have it any other way.

Meeting Anna's granddaughter wasn't something I'd ever imagined, since Anna rarely mentioned her unless it was to recall a memory that eventually made her quiet for the rest of the day or to make a snide remark out of annoyance. So, to have her here in front of us was definitely... new.
"What are you doing here?" Anna asked with disbelief.
Sasha blinked awkwardly. "I, er, got a call from the nurse. She said you'd hurt your back, so I thought I'd check in." Her gaze fell to Wanda and I. "I see you've got company."
"Sorry, we'll give you a moment," Wanda blurted, before looking to Anna reassuringly.
I did the same before eyeing Sasha suspiciously then following after Wanda into the hall. When the door closed behind us, I wondered what exactly would happen in there. To say I was overprotective of Anna was an understatement.
Taking a seat on the chairs outside her room, I became acutely aware of how stupid I looked in my trainers, Mickey Mouse pyjamas and raincoat. Especially when Wanda sat beside me, knee brushing mine.
"Do you want a drink or anything?" she asked suddenly, earning my attention.
I shook my head, crossing my arms and leaning back into my seat. "No, thank you, I'm good."
She hummed in acknowledgement but said nothing else. The awkwardness that lingered between us was overpowering, but nowhere near as overpowering as the scent of Wanda's shampoo that was drifting up my nose from how close she was sat to me. I tightened my crossed arms, trying to think of something else. Then I remembered what had happened in Anna's room before Sasha interrupted.
"What were you and Anna arguing about?" I asked, glancing at the witch.
She winced, but didn't look my way. "Nothing. Just neighbour stuff."
I smiled bitterly. So, she didn't want to share. Fine. No big deal. Who was I but her neighbour's carer anyway?
After ten minutes of waiting, we decided to head back inside to make sure Anna was okay. What we saw was Anna and Sasha crying happy tears as the latter sat at her bedside, clutching her hand.
"Damn, sorry," I apologised for Wanda and I, realising we'd interrupted a special moment. "We can–"
"No, we're done," Sasha said, wiping away her tears with embarrassment. "Sorry about that."
"Devushki (girls), this is my granddaughter, Sasha," Anna introduced, and I'd never seen her look happier.
As Sasha stood up and rounded the bed to approach us, I realised she seemed familiar because of the photographs I'd seen around Anna's apartment.
"It's nice to finally meet the two people who have been taking care of my grandmother," Sasha said, before putting out her hand.
I bit back from retorting with something along the lines of 'we wouldn't have to if you had cared for her yourself', and instead shook her hand. Wanda glanced at me, probably sensing the negative thoughts in my mind with her powers, but she said nothing as she smiled politely at Sasha and shook her hand.
"It's nice to meet you, too," Wanda spoke, realising I wouldn't. "Anna talks a lot about you. I was hoping we would eventually meet."
Sasha sighed regretfully, smile fading. "Yes... well, I haven't been around as much as I should have been. I know that now."
"Took you long enough," I muttered under my breath, it slipping out without me realising.
Wanda shoved me in the arm in response and I frowned, rubbing the sore spot.
"You're right," Sasha said, looking to me apologetically. "But I'm here now. And getting that call earlier... it made me realise that I've treated Anna horribly. That's why I've invited her to live with me. To make up for lost time."
Certainly not expecting that, my jaw dropped with surprise. "What?"
Sasha sat back down beside Anna's beside and I exchanged startled looks with Wanda before looking to the older woman in question.
"No offence," I started, glancing at Sasha, before focusing on Anna again, "but are you sure this is the right move? It's not too sudden?"
Anna shook her head and grabbed Sasha's hand. "She wants me to be around her family. And I want it too, Y/N. I miss them."
I nodded, but chewed on the inside of my mouth anxiously. It's not that I didn't trust Sasha (okay, maybe it was a little), but I was scared for Anna. I didn't want her to get heartbroken all over again.
Be supportive, Wanda's voice filled my mind, and I looked to her to see her eyes fading from red to green.
I clenched my jaw. Stay out of my head.
With a bright smile, she ignored me and looked between the grandmother and granddaughter duo.
"I think that's wonderful, Anna," she said kindly. "I mean, of course I'm going to miss having you as a neighbour, but this is all you've wanted. I'm thrilled for you. And so is Y/N."
When she looked to me for confirmation, I felt a familiar anger in the pit of my stomach, only reserved for Wanda Maximoff. But this wasn't about us, this was about Anna.
"I am," I agreed, eyes flickering to Anna. "It sounds great."
"You can both visit whenever you want," Sasha said, nodding enthusiastically. "Anna loves you both so dearly."
"You can't get rid of us even if you tried," Wanda joked, flashing Anna a teasing smile.
Anna chuckled. "I knew you would both understand."
I smiled halfheartedly, glad that everything was working out for Anna but knowing I would miss caring for her greatly.
"We should leave you to rest," I said with finality.
"Thank you," Anna replied, and by the way she looked at me, I knew she was thanking me for a lot more.
"Get well soon," I told her in my 'nurse' voice that she hated, a playful smile on my lips. "I'll check on you tomorrow."
Anna nodded. "Tomorrow."
After saying an awkward goodbye to Sasha, I left the room and headed for the lift down the hall, not bothering to wait for Wanda. Thankfully, she must have known I didn't want to speak to her, as she didn't speed after me.
Since Anna moved in with her granddaughter, the last time I saw Wanda was at the hospital. Two more months passed and I had no need to bump into her at Anna's apartment since Anna didn't live there anymore. And the one time I visited Anna since she moved in to Sasha's house, Wanda wasn't present.
I guess it made it a lot easier to attempt to get over her. Six months since she broke up with me was long enough to move on, I think. I'd been on a few dates, none really going anywhere until Natasha decided to set me up with someone a few weeks ago.
It was a family friend of her Avenger's teammate, Clint Barton, and though it was a blind date, it actually worked out well. The woman was called Elise and she was very sweet and charming on our first date, having a similar sense of humour to mine and a killer smile. It was actually the first time since Wanda left that things felt like they were falling into place. We went on a few more dates, deciding not to rush things, and I found myself looking forward to going out with her.
It was a few weeks into our dating relationship when Natasha gave me a call, inviting me as her plus-one to Clint and his wife's vow renewal. They were having a whole celebration at their homestead in Missouri and Natasha figured I'd enjoy it, able to take a weekend break and join her at the lavish hotel she'd be staying in. And also because Elise would be there.
"Oh?" I said with surprise. "Elise didn't mention anything."
"She wanted to," Natasha said with amusement, "but she didn't want to bring it up in case you didn't want to go."
I quirked a brow, despite her being unable to see me. "And why wouldn't I want to go?"
Natasha hesitated. "'Cause Wanda will be there...?"
A sigh escaped my lips as I massaged my forehead. Elise knew about Wanda because it came up when she asked how Natasha and I became friends. She was actually really chill about the whole thing, which I appreciated, but I could only imagine how she must have felt knowing that Wanda would be at the vow renewal.
"You should still come," Natasha encouraged when I didn't say anything. "I already spoke to Wanda and she said she won't cause a scene or anything."
"I doubt that she would," I mumbled.
"She just wants you to be happy," Natasha finished. "So, be happy as my plus-one and get a cute date in with your girlfriend whilst you're there."
I tried to stifle the smile on my lips. "Elise isn't my girlfriend."
"Yet," Natasha added knowingly.
Rolling my eyes, I said, "Look, send me the details and I'll be happy to be your plus-one."
"Yes!" she exclaimed, and I could just imagine her fist-pumping like an idiot. "I'll see you then, Y/N."
"Goodbye," I told her, though a smile of amusement was playing on my lips.
After that call with Natasha, I didn't hesitate to give Elise a call, hoping I wasn't bothering her whilst she was at work.
"Hello?"
"Hey," I greeted, smiling to myself. "Is this a bad time?"
"Well, luckily for you, I'm actually just starting my lunch break," she said in a joking manner. "What's up?"
I scratched my head uncertainly. "Well, Natasha just called and invited me as her plus-one to Clint's vow renewal. She said you would be there, too, obviously, but I just wanted to check in and see if it was okay that I went."
I left out the part about her not telling me about it, but she seemed to pick up on it anyway as she breathed out slowly.
"I just don't want to step on your toes," I quickly added, before chewing on my lip.
"You could never," she said reassuringly. "I actually wanted to ask you to be my date, but I thought it may be too soon. Y'know, a vow renewal when it's only what, the sixth date in?"
"It's not too soon," I said, before adding, "I can just come as Natasha's friend and we don't have to make it a date."
"There's also the fact that your ex will be there," Elise added, and I frowned at the mention of Wanda. "I don't want you to feel uncomfortable."
"It's been six months," I told her with certainty. "I'm as comfortable as can be."
She paused. "If you think you'll be okay, then I'd love to see you there, Y/N."
"I know I'll be okay," I said promisingly. "And I'd like to go and maybe see you, too."
She laughed quietly and it made me smile. "In that case, I guess I'll see you there."
"It'll be fun," I said knowingly.
"It will," she agreed. "And now I can't wait."
It was my turn laugh. "Me either."
And fun it was... along with many other words.
The day of the vow renewal came by quickly enough and as promised, I went with Natasha as her plus-one. She made it as enjoyable as she could for me which I appreciated, with the two of us getting first-class tickets which Natasha was happy to pay for, and checking in to a beautiful hotel for the weekend. And that was just the accommodation.
The actual vow renewal was a stunning affair, as Clint and his wife, Laura, had gone all out with decorating the homestead and it's fields in a traditional, romantic way. A flower arch stood front and centre, with rows of seats set out for guests. Bouquets lined the outside and lights were strung above and all around the trees which I could only imagine would look stunning once the sun set.
"They really went all out," Natasha said, impressed as she took in the scene before us.
I hummed in agreement. "It's beautiful." I glanced at her adding, "Bet you wish you brought an actual date now."
Natasha smirked knowingly. "What's to say this isn't one? This could all be a plan to steal you away from Elise."
"Because that makes sense," I played along with amusement. "The woman who set me up with her best friend's family friend is trying to steal me away from said family friend. Makes complete sense."
"True," she said with a shrug, walking forward. I followed her as she continued, "If I was trying to make a move, you wouldn't see it coming."
I tried not to laugh. "Sure, Natasha."
"Trained assassin, expert in espionage, master of lying and hiding in plain sight," she listed off her skills one by one on her fingers. Shooting me a knowing smile, she repeated, "You wouldn't see it coming."
I rolled my eyes playfully and the two of us made the rounds, myself reacquainting with the other Avengers whom I hadn't seen since, well, since Wanda and I were together. It was a little awkward, since I was never really close with them and vice versa, but they were polite and kind and made me feel comfortable (probably because of Natasha, which gave me yet another reason to be grateful to the redhead).
Eventually, it got to a point where Wanda was the next person to say hello to and I truly thought six months would be enough to get over her; oh, how sorely mistaken I was.
She was talking to Sam Wilson, the two talking about something or the other that was clearly entertaining enough to warrant a laugh from Wanda. As we approached them, the sound of her laugh taunted me, melodic and dancing around my ears like a terrible reminder of what I couldn't have.
They spotted Natasha and I soon enough, their conversation ceasing and Wanda's laughter silencing as her eyes met mine. I tried not to let her effect me, but it became increasingly different when I noticed how beautiful she looked today, wearing a maroon-coloured dress and wearing her brown-red hair down in curls. Of course, all of that didn't compliment the giant scar on her forehead.
"Y/N, it's so good to see you!" Sam exclaimed, trying to prevent an awkwardness from occurring. "How have you been?"
I smiled his way. "I'm good, Sam. You?"
We talked for a little while, catching up, before Natasha decided to drag Sam away for a stupid, fake reason that was clearly said on purpose. Knowing I couldn't exactly stop her, I let her get away with it, figuring I'd have to face Wanda at some point.
"You look good," she spoke first, making me push a stand of my hair behind my ear to give my hands something to do.
"Thanks," I mumbled, before clearing my throat and meeting her gaze. "So do you. That's, er, that's always been your colour."
She smiled in response and I cursed inwardly, wondering why the hell I said that.
"You sound like you've been doing well," she said, referring to the conversation I had with Sam.
I nodded. "Yeah, I have."
A silence filled the air that none of us knew how to fill. I stared at my shoes so hard that I'm surprised a hole didn't form. Wanda hugged herself, unsure whether to speak or not.
"What happened to your head?" I finally thought of something, nodding to the scar.
She subconsciously reached up to touch it, though she didn't seem affected by it. "Oh, nothing. Just happened in a recent mission."
I nodded uncomfortably, never responding well to when she got injured. But she knew that.
"So, Nat said you've got a date," Wanda said, and the way she said it made me think that maybe she'd been wanting to mention it for a while. "Elise, right?"
I swallowed. "Yeah. She's just helping the Bartons out with some stuff then I'll be seeing her after."
Wanda nodded, eyes flickering between me and the floor. "That's nice. So, is it new?"
God, this was awkward.
"Kind of, yeah," I answered, not even sure why. "It's not, like, exclusive, but it's nice to move on, y'know?"
She raised her eyebrows. "Oh, so you're moving on?"
I pressed my lips together firmly. She was watching me curiously, green eyes bright with intrigue.
"I'd hope so," I answered, cocking my head to the side and watching her. "It's been six months."
She nodded, looking down. "Yeah, okay... so you're not in love with her?"
I clenched my jaw. "Is that really any of your business, Wanda?" She didn't answer, so I straightened up and avoided her eyes. "I should go. Ceremony is going to start soon."
Walking away, I left with tense shoulders and more nerves than when I headed in. She had no right to be jealous. She left me.
I found Elise just before everybody was told to take their seats for the ceremony. She apologised for missing me before, mentioning how she was helping Laura with getting ready, then proceeded to shower me in compliments which sent me into a blushing mess. After catching up, we took our seats for the ceremony and waited for it to begin.
Feeling someone's eyes on me, I glanced to my left and saw Wanda sat on the other set of rows, but she was staring right at me, lips pressed together thoughtfully. I rolled my eyes and looked ahead, ignoring her stares. As if sensing my mood, Elise grabbed ahold of my hand gently, glancing at me with a small smile as if to check that was okay. I squeezed her hand in response, letting her know it was.
Are her hands sweaty? Because they look sweaty.
I clenched my jaw and shot Wanda a glare, seeing the amused smile on her lips as she watched me.
Stay out of my head, I told her mentally, knowing she was listening, before rolling my eyes. And her hands are soft, thank you very much. Yours are the sweaty ones.
Though it was a terrible comeback, Wanda lost her smile and rolled her eyes before looking away. I tried not to let her annoying self bother me as Elise and I sat together, watching the ceremony.
It was short and sweet and though I didn't know Clint and Laura too well, it was easy to see they loved each other very much. Their vows were beautiful and it was adorable when their kids ran up to them at the end to give them a giant hug. I didn't know much, but I knew that I'd love to have a love like theirs some day.
After the ceremony came the reception, and there were loads of tables and chairs set up for guests, including a stage and dance floor next to it, perfect for a nice celebration after the vow renewal. It was all wonderful and I was excited, until I learnt that I was sat on the same table as Wanda.
Me, Elise, Natasha, Sam, Wanda and Bucky Barnes were all sat at the same table, which definitely didn't help with the awkwardness as Wanda eyed me from across the food. I tried to ignore her presence and focus on having a great time with Elise. Natasha promised that Wanda wouldn't make a scene, so I just had to believe her.
"So, what can I get you all to drink?" a waiter said, stopping by our table.
Everybody told him what they wanted and when he looked to me, I shrugged.
"Literally anything is fine with me," I said, before quickly adding, "Well, anything except gin. Not a fan of gin at all."
The waiter nodded and smiled politely. "I'm sure I can get you something good without gin."
I returned his smile as he nodded to us all once more before walking away to get our drinks.
"So, what did you think of the ceremony?" Elise asked, giving me her attention.
The two of us erupted into conversation, as did everyone else, and I was genuinely having a good time with her. The food was good, too, as were the drinks when they arrived. But the one problem was Wanda bloody Maximoff who couldn't keep her eyes away from me and was agitating me with her mere presence. I tried so hard to ignore her, but God forbid my eyes flickered over to her and she was already looking my way.
After a delicious meal and lovely conversation with the others, everybody began to get up and mingle with the other guests. I took this as my chance to steer away from Wanda and instead catch up with Natasha and hang out with Elise, who got on with everyone wonderfully. Sadly though, she had to keep nipping away to help the Bartons with some stuff for the party, but I didn't mind. I figured that was also part of the reason why she didn't invite me as her plus-one, so I didn't take it personally.
About an hour into the celebrations, I was mid-conversation with Natasha when we were interrupted by Wanda. I rolled my eyes as she looked to the redhead questioningly.
"Have you seen Clint around?" she asked. "Laura wants me to take everything from the gifts table inside and I need the key."
Natasha pursed her lips, shaking her head. As her eyes looked around for him, she said, "I'm not sure where he is..."
Before either of them could come to a conclusion, Elise appeared by my side with an apologetic smile and a drink in her hand.
"Hey," she greeted, squeezing my hand gently. "Sorry for ditching you before. I had to make sure the bar didn't run out of alcohol."
"It's all good," I told her with a small smile.
"I got you this gin cocktail to make up for it," she said sweetly, making me eye the drink like it was a bomb.
Wanda snorted suddenly, making me look to her with a glare. She tried to hide her laughter behind a smile as she looked the other way, though that didn't stop her from commenting in my mind with her obnoxious, intrusive powers.
Real good listener this one. Didn't you say you didn't like gin earlier?
I refrained from smacking her. Go away, Wanda.
"Thank you," I said to Elise gratefully, accepting the drink. "It looks great."
"Oh, I think I see Clint," Wanda said, before shooting us all a smile I'd love to punch. "Catch you later."
"See ya," Natasha said, as Elise waved and I rolled my eyes.
Dancing was fun and I liked to think I was good for an average person. So, when the DJ put on some fun music and encouraged guests to have a little dance, I immediately asked Elise to join me. Unfortunately, she wasn't exactly the most confident of dancers. She was adorably apologising as she held my hands, letting me take the lead.
"It's okay," I reassured her with a laugh. "You're doing fine."
But as she stepped on my foot for the millionth time, I could tell she thought she was doing anything but. I didn't mind though since it was amusing and cute all at the same time.
Be careful over there, Y/N. You may have been better off wearing some steel-toed shoes.
At the sound of Wanda's voice infiltrating my mind, I searched around me until I caught sight of the familiar green eyes over Elise's shoulder. She was stood to the side, entertained smile adorning her lips, as she watched Elise and I dance.
Why don't you piss off and mind your own business before I buy a pair of steel-toed shoes just to kick you with!
She didn't respond, so I focused my attention back on Elise and paused as something a little slower and more romantic played in the background. Offering an encouraging smile to Elise, I held out my hand which she accepted happily.
"Luckily, this one is pretty easy, so you might avoid bruising my feet," I joked to lighten the mood.
She flushed with embarrassment but let me pull her close as I took the lead. Subconsciously, my eyes wandered back to Wanda, who was now crossing her arms with annoyance and watching me with glowing red eyes. She had absolutely no right to be jealous. But I didn't care. It wasn't my business.
After sharing a lovely dance with Elise, the two of us took a seat at our empty table to have some water and talk. Of course, as we were chatting, our conversation was interrupted by none other than–
"Wanda," I got out through gritted teeth.
She grinned as she took a seat next to us, crossing her legs and resting her intertwined hands on her knees comfortably.
"I figured I'd introduce myself properly since we haven't really met before," Wanda explained, eyes dancing with mischief before she looked to Elise. "I'm Wanda Maximoff."
Elise smiled politely. "I'm Elise Fey. And I know who you are. A really impressive Avenger at that."
I narrowed my eyes as Wanda waved her hand dismissively. What was she playing at exactly?
"Oh, I wouldn't say that," she said bashfully. "But I guess, since you know who I am, it's only fair I return the favour. After all, you're here as Y/N's date, and as Y/N's friend, I thought it would be nice to get to know you."
"Friend," I repeated the word bitterly. "So, that's what we are now?"
Wanda chuckled, brushing off my words, before focusing on Elise. "So, what do you do, Elise?"
"I'm a veterinarian," she quipped proudly.
"How cute," Wanda said, tilting her head to the side and smiling. "How long have you been doing that?"
"Only a few years," Elise said, glancing at me with mild confusion. "It's a really rewarding job."
"I can imagine," Wanda said, before pulling a puzzled expression. "But wait, how does that work with you both? Since Y/N is allergic to pets an' all?"
Locking my jaw with agitation, I stared at Wanda's doe-eyed face. Elise looked to me with surprise.
"You are?" she asked. "Why didn't you tell me?"
I shook my head, smiling at her. "No, not really... I mean, well, rabbits. I'm allergic to rabbits. I didn't think it was a big deal."
"It kind of is," she said playfully. "What if I had treated a rabbit at work and then went on a date with you?"
I chuckled awkwardly. "Hmm, yeah, okay, maybe it's a little bit of a big deal."
She hummed disapprovingly before looking back to Wanda, who watched us both curiously.
"So, you work as a vet in New York?" she asked Elise, and I couldn't tell if she was actually interested or just trying to piss me off. When Elise nodded, she continued, "Are you from New York?"
"I'm originally from here actually," Elise said, motioning around us. "My family knew Laura's family before she married Clint. That's how I know the Bartons."
"Oh, so your parents still live here?" Wanda asked, leaning her head in the palm of her hand as she continued to question her.
"Yeah, not far from here actually," Elise answered with a smile.
Wanda nodded. "Cool... so how would that work, the whole visiting them thing? I mean, Y/N works a lot, right? And I assume you're close with your family. So, how does taking the time off to visit your parents work with you both when it's, like, 16 hours away?"
I squeezed my hands together to contain my frustration towards Wanda. Elise opened her mouth to respond, then closed it when she realised she didn't know how to answer. Her eyes darted to mine, asking for help, and I knew she was too polite to call Wanda out for her bullshit.
"We're still newly dating, Wanda," I answered through a fake smile. "We haven't even talked about meeting each other's parents, so it's not an issue right now."
"Right now," Wanda echoed my words, as if adding a double meaning. "But it will be in the future?"
I tried not to react harshly as I said, "That's not what I said."
Wanda nodded slowly, smirk tugging at her lips. Saying nothing more on the subject, she looked to Elise with dark eyes.
"It was lovely meeting you," she finished. "I'll see you around, I guess."
Elise nodded uncomfortably. "You, too, Wanda."
Shooting me a smile, she got up and left Elise and I sat there in mixed emotions. I was peeved at the Sokovian woman, not understanding why she had to try and ruin my one chance at moving on.
"I'm sorry about that," I said to Elise, a frown on my lips. "I don't know what the hell happened, but I definitely didn't expect it."
Elise chewed on her lower lip with thought. I waited patiently, wishing I knew what she was thinking. Finally, her blue eyes met mine apologetically.
"I don't think Wanda is quite over you," she said quietly. "And maybe you're not over her either, Y/N. At least not as much as you think you are."
I raised an eyebrow. "Seriously? Elise, she's just being a dick to piss me off. It's not like that."
Elise winced. "I think it is. And honestly, you're a lovely person, but I just don't want to get involved in something like that right now."
I knitted my brows together with confusion. "What do you mean?"
She rested her hand on mine atop the table. "It's probably better we stay friends. Easier."
"Elise... c'mon. We just– we only just got to know each other." I frowned, feeling bad that she didn't want to see where this would go.
"For what it's worth, today was really fun," she said with a smile, trying to make light of the situation. "And every date we've shared has been fun, too. But I can't compete with the history you share with Wanda. And I don't want to."
I didn't know what to say, speechless, unable to understand why she was doing this. Taking that as her chance to leave, she leaned forward and kissed me on the cheek before standing up and letting go of my hand.
"I'm gonna leave early," she explained. "I hope you work stuff out for yourself."
I looked up to her, watching as she smiled once more before leaving me be. We'd only been dating a few weeks, I knew that, but I still felt saddened to know she didn't want to keep things going. And with the realisation that it was because of Wanda, my sadness was quickly replaced with anger. It always came back to her.
Scowl on my face, I stood up and knew one thing: Wanda Maximoff was dead meat.

Part 2
Raptor y/n POV
I see nothing but darkness but hear a faint voice calling
"Come on RH" a man's voice.
I broke out of the shell easily with his help. My yellow eyes notice him as a doctor and there's other eggs around the room.
"Keep her under the sleep serum."
The doctor ordered causing someone else to put a sleep pile in my bit of meat, my tiny tail swung back and forth. My nose liked the smell of meat giving me the erg to rip them apart. My eyes fell sleepily hearing the two mutter. "Yes Dr. Wu."
"RH is intended to stay alive in a sort of cryogenic sleep."
Dr. Wu said "excellent, all we need is a trainer." and just like that my eyes fell close.
"May I ask what does RH mean, doctor?" The helper questions. Dr. Wu I believe his name was replied.
"RH...Raptor Hybrid."
Y/N POV
Beep...beep...beep
That's all I hear the first moment I wake up, my wrists are restrained to the cot I lay on.
"Finally you're awake."
A man's voice entered the room, he wears a blue button up shirt with a brown leather vest pulled over, dark blue jeans and mud colored work boots. Hair the color of dirty blonde and bright green eyes.
"What's your name?" I asked while staring at this man, your mind wondering back to your other form.
Was he the person who drugged me?
Does he know I'm a velociraptor?
Or at least half raptor.
"Owen, Owen Grady. I'm supposed to help you Y/N L/N. I'm the velociraptor trainer here." He explains as I undo my restraints. My hair flows down my back. Owen informed me that he was told to tell no one that I was a hybrid raptor. According to Dr. Wu, the creator of all dinosaurs in the lab. Said I was now seventeen years old but the last thing I recall was being one seeing the world for the first time.
"Y/N these are your siblings. Charlie, Delta, Echo and Blue. She's the beta." He pointed each out to me as we stood on the catwalk above them.
"You're the Alpha." I trailed off before he kept going. "Since others can't know about you, we'll practice at my place. Believe me I'm still shocked as you about all of this." He chuckled after and I had a little bit too.
Of course that was three years ago, aging didn't really effect me. Owen now was still two years older than me. I'm now twenty years old and in better control of my raptor abilities.
"Y/n focus, turn alright!" His Alpha voice came out. I gripped the claw necklace around my neck before turning into my full sized velociraptor form. We had been training for years and I got the tooth necklace from Owen he made it. Got the claw from Ecbo when she was little and broke it off, of course she has one back in it's place.
"Eyes on me." Owen directed slowly as we went in a slow circle. "Alright good girl. Turn back." He said in a hushed statement. I did so, sloppily gaining my stance once again.
"Let's get some food." I added as my stomach growled, when I was a raptor he fed me animal meat but it didn't work the same for my human form. The researchers at the lab backed off us. They use to care what I did until Owen faught back saying "I was still a person and should be treated like one." Claire Dearing convinced them to leave me alone and focus on running the famous park. Claire dated Owen a month after we started training. It didn't go any further. On my end I found him attractive and funny, a risk taker. Yet in my world it could never happen.
We agreed. Keep each other safe and nothing more. It was fine in the beginning but as we grew closer it's become harder.
This morning at the paddock things were going slow. Tapping my muddy boots in the dirt my head shoot up hearing Owen's commands. "Hey. Eyes on me!" I climb up the stairs seeing the girls he called the raptors staring up at him. His clicker raised in his left, right hand pointing down to Blue who snarls her head. "Blue, watch it!" Charlie growls moving forward but he caught it. "Charlie, Hey don't give me that shit!" Owen glances my way raising his freehand stepping towards a hanging treat bucket. "And we're moving, Y/n!"
I followed his lead when we reach the bucket he rests a hand on my shoulder making me lock with his green eyes. "Follow my lead. . ." He switches to his hot Alpha voice raising his freehand once again. "Hold!" The four velociraptors locked gaze with him, standing still on his order. "That is good. That is damn good."
He reached in the bucket pulling out a dead rat tossing it to Charlie. "Very good. See Charlie that's what you get!" He nudged me lightly telling me to go next, picking up another rat I toss it to Echo. "Echo, here girl!" She jumped up eating it. I pick up the third locking eyes with Delta who pure up at me, somehow she always listens to me, watching my every move even when Owen's not training them. "Delta, There you go!" She jumps eating it quickly and chirping up at me. Owen reaches in the bucket holding the last rat. "Blue." She tilts her head up more hearing their Alpha. "This one's for you." The Beta ate it once he threw it down, snapping to his voice. "Hold!"
Owen gives me a tiny head nod still standing in the same position. I hold my right hand up, calling to them. "Eyes up..." the girls all moved their heads my way. "Alright good...now go!" I moved my hand downward and the raptors ran under the catwalk. I sigh in shock that they're actually listening to me for once. Part of my cover was to be a training like Owen, the girls were stubborn at first but now they're improving.
Owen lowers his hands to pull me into his chest for a proud hug. "That's my girl!"
I hug him back enjoying being this close to him, yet I still pull away not wanting to weird him out. "Yeah I did, didn't I. They finally listened to me."
He crosses his arms over his chest pouting, wanting some credit. "Well you had to learn from the Alpha himself."
"Alpha, what am I then. A lonely raptor hybrid bending to your knee like your girls?" Playfully rolling my eyes I smirked leaning up close to his face even though he's taller than me.
Owen shakes his head raising a hand to brush some loose hair behind my ear, getting me to blush lightly locking into his eyes. "Badass hybrid Y/n doesn't have to bend a knee to me, unless you can't resist our urges." He can't be serious. He's known to sleep with a lot of girls.
"Owen...I...we're at work..." I stumbled for words but he shrugs parting his lips to speak but another voice interrupted. "Y/n, I'm not just flirting for fun. I'm saying I'm crush-"
"Owen, your girls are looking good...especially you Y/n." Glancing over my left shoulder I see our annoying fat boss, walking up the catwalk towards us. Throwing my head back I groan in annoyance once he reached. "You've got to joking with me...I'm not interested nor will I ever be Hoskins"
Hoskins steps up arms behind his back smiling at me. "Oh come on, baby. Grady here isn't as good as I can be in bed-"
I suck a lump in my throat blushing a deep red, at the thought of Owen and me sleeping together. "I'm once again not interested. . . I've got to get back to work." I brushed past him causing my raptor claw necklace to swing out from under my shirt, he noticed grabbing my forearm. "Pretty necklace. Sensing you've got a thing for intelligent men."
"Get away from me before I hurt you!" I barely noticed my eyes changed for split second to the golden raptor ones instead of their normal color. Yanking my arm from his hold I glance to Owen who gave me a scared look at my word chose, on that note I headed quickly to the stairs to get away from our boss.
Owen hands me his famous clicker he uses to train them, following me down the stairs to the sets of headlocks if we want to pet them. "If you don't have any actual business, I suggest you get your ass out of my paddock before I make you!" Why would he protect me. Maybe it's just so I don't get used as weapon for Hoskins.
"Field test. I just seen that they can respond to commands. We not take the research and get it on its feet." Vic Hoskins claimed his idea for the hundredth time following Owen and I down from the catwalk to the ground from the stairs. "They're wild animals Hoskins. Trust me you don't want them in the field." Owen snips I assume referring back to his days in the Navy.
The Field test as he calls it was to use the raptors as soldiers in war. He's not very bright in thinking. Velociraptors are pack hunters, they'll kill anything that moves or forgets to feed them. Their conversation broke when someone shouts "Pig loose!" Shooting my head up to the catwalk I see Delta grab the workers stick, pulling him and the pig inside the paddock. All four raptors heads focusing on the scared crawling backwards worker, ready to eat him alive. I ran over to the cage debating whether or not to go in. I had to do something the worker shouldn't die. Although theirs no guarantee that they'd let me live. I'd never stepped foot inside, let them see I'm a raptor love the girls.
Bez! Sound meets my ears. Barry screams "Owen no!" Shacking my head quickly I'm pulled from my thoughts grasping the bars. This is insane, he's the Alpha. But can that really work.
At that point I noticed he passed me going straight into the cage to save the workers life. Hoskins eyes me and Owen the entire time, we were always careful around him. Barry stands beside me, he also knew my secret.  I swear my raptor claws could have been out and I could've charged in a second but Owen made a good argument to the guards who pointed guns down at the Raptors.
"Put 12 amps in these animals, they're never going to trust me again." He slides to haunt on his feet, the scared worker behind him as he held his hands "Hold your fire. Do not fire!"
Barry bends down to pull the worker inside the cage. I move to stand in the open entrance, getting into a running stance. Yet arms wrapped around my waist dragging me backwards behind the bars when Owen uses his Alpha voice snapping my attention to his deep voice. "Blue stand down. Stand down..."
Blue snapped her teeth towards him making him snap back. "Hey, hey what did I just say!" Delta opens her mouth stepping closer with Charlie following. "Delta, I see you. Back up." Owen turns his head her direction pushing his hands out more. "Charlie, stay right there!" Echo chirps to him when he slowly moved one foot backwards to the paddock cage.
"Close the gate." Owen orders to the two of us. I cursed back to him in a rash tone. "Damn it Owen, have you lost your mind!" His gaze held tight with his girls when he replied. "Just trust me." Barry presses the button allowing the gate to go down slowly. "Damn." He mumbled under his breath.
He quickly turns his back to the girls racing to roll under the gate as it slowly closes, the girls heads banged into the metal. My heart beats rapidly as he gasped in relief watching me tackle him onto his back. "Oh my god. Owen Grady don't ever scare the crap out of me like that again!"
My small hands wrapped around his neck squeezing him tightly, his hands resting on my hips trail up wrapping around my small waist breathing in my hair for a second before pushing me off to get to his feet. "Easy girl, you can't get rid of Alpha Owen Grady that easily."
Barry pulls me to my feet and I death stare the worker who fell. The claw necklace still hung out from under my shirt, Barry tucks it back in hiding giving me a wink. He knows my secret too. Owen thought our coworker should know in case of an emergency.
Owen asks in a covky manner, causing me to turn my body towards the terrified man. "You're the new guy right. . . ever wonder why there was a job opening?"
I have to hold in a laugh as Blue sticks her nose into the bars growling at him.
"Y/N" Owen calls pulling me from my trance of panic and jokes, putting a arm around my waist, I meet his green eyes answering  "yes"
He leads us out to his motorcycle finally speaking as he drove us back home. "I know you wanted in there today. But you know the rule.
I whined "No one must know what I really am."
Finally we stopped at his bungalow giving him time to fix his motorcycle. "You know I hate it too" Owen stated trying to lighten my annoyanced mood. His hands working away on his bike, sitting on a bucket. His eyes flickering from me, to his bike, then to the beautiful water view out to our right.
I flipped my hair over my shoulder as I sat on the grass handing him each tool he needed. "Cut the lies. You are overjoyed to have a awesome hybrid like me around." I cocked back to him, reseavinvg a chuckle. He thought I was playing around but I wasn't.
"What do they want now?" I hear him ask himself in a annoyed manner.
He takes a sip of his beer following up to see Claire walk up to us. She's in a pants suit and high heels that make me cringe at the thought of tripping in those things. Oh boy. She's here! Claire is an annoying boss because she doesn't truly understand that these dinosaurs are alive, that it's a merical. She just cares that they're numbers on a spreadsheet.
"Mr. Grady, Ms. L/N. I need you two to come take a look at something." She stated.
Owen throws back a remark "Why you call'en me Mr. Grady?"
I pick up a rench fixing the part we were working on, trying to block out most of the conversation. I could tell he still had a thing for her but I sure as heck wasn't gonna listen to them talk.
"Mr. Masrani. Thinks since you two can control the raptors." Claire explains.
"We don't control them. Owen imprinted on them as babies and we just have a close relationship!" I snapped at her pointing my index finger from him back to me.
Claire eyes me with a glare of annoyance. "So this is who you've been spending all your time with."
Owen and I lock eyes and he smirks, making a heart with his hands to me. Does that mean what I think it means.
His next comment is directed at Claire. Raising his hands behind his head, he leans back on his messy work table covered in tools. Oh and to top it off he's got his signature smirk. "What can I say - she gets me."
The lab took great care in hiding me, Claire didn't even know what I really was. With a long conversation Owen agreed. The paddock of the Indominis Rex was huge, claw Mark's on the wall. I pulled my pocket scetch book out and drew the markings while Owen talked with Claire. I finished just as he called my name "Y/N. We're going in there."
Owen and I followed two workers inside, one being a fat guy. "It's in the cage. It's in their with you!" A woman's screaming over the radio of the control room.
"Run!" Owen yelled once we figured out it was in the cage.
I picked my feet up trailing in a fast run behind him. The roars were loud and I was terrified for my life. The fat guy got through the door and the other worker got eaten. I felt my asthma starting to affect me my chest tightened, making me curse "Fuck!" Owen's I'm front of me and he cursed grabbing my hand dragging the two of us through the giant metal door. "Shit!"
I stopped in my tracks bending down resting my hands on my knees. I try to catch my breath yet Owen forced me under the truck with him. The Indominis Rex broke the door as I froze not caring that I'm laying on his chest, to add on our faces are nearly touching. "Owen I...I have a crush on you."
Owen nodded his head slowly cutting an oil line to hid our scent. The Indominis Rex slowly maneuvers behind a truck that he tipped over, eating he fat guy who sat on the gravel sobbing quietly.  "Y/n..." Next the I Rex puts it's nose towards our truck, sniffling as I saw the dead guys blood on her giant teeth. Make a new dinosaur. Great idea Claire!
He muttered once we got out from the truck, the Indominis Rex was free in the park. "We gotta go..." I slumped my shoulders in regret that I had no clue if he felt the same way. How could he. I mean he's the famous raptor trainer Owen Grady, and I'm just Y/l L/n - a hybrid who hides away.
"I need to see ID. Sir, ma'am!" A security guard ordered as Owen brushed past. I knew he was mad at Claire as was I. Everyone watching us concerned with what is going on. My hair falls loosely down my shoulders as I stomped down the stairs seeing the map of the whole park, including the cameras of the area where the I Rex's tracker was said to be located.
"What the hell happened out there. There are thermal cameras all over that paddock, she did not just disappear!" Owen shoved the security guard away, shouting at Claire.
Claire gives some lame accuse that I run a frustrated hand down my face. "It must have been some kinda technical malfunction." I pushed my index finger harshly into her chest. "Were you not watching Owen and I nearly die!"
"She marked up that wall as a distraction. She wanted us to think she escaped!" Owen steps closer to my back growling about how smart the I Rex appears to be. Almost velociraptor like.
Claire pushes me out of her way gently getting in his face. "Hold on we are talking about an animal here-" Owen cuts her off sharply "A highly intelligent animal."
Stepping down the stairs I gasped seeing a security unit exiting their vehicles with zapping weapons only. "You're going after her with none lethal's?" Owen questions. The park opener explains stupidity. "We have 26 million dollars invested in that asset we can't just kill it." Owen closes his eyes for a brief moment admitting. "Those men are gonna die."
The security guy picked up a chunk of flesh with a blinking tracking chip. "What is that?" The owner asks as Owen's shoulder brushes up against mine. "That's her tracking implant she clawed it out."
"How would it know to do that?" Claire breathes as I secretly rest my freehand to my neck, feeling something pumping other than my pulse. So that's what this is. They're been able to track me all along. "She remembered where they put it in." Owen tells her reaching and securing my other hand in fear.
Shortly after we quickly watched every member of the security unit get killed by the beast, she can camefloge - no normal dinosaur can do that. The park owner locks his hands together not saying a word. I hold a hand over my mouth gasping sharply, feeling tears lightly fall down my cheeks. The Indominus Rex is a monster. Owen squeezes my other hand in his gently, removing it to face Claire and the others declaring in a deep tone. "Evacuate the island."
Claire sighs "we'd never reopen." Spinning around on my boots I growled like Owen's raptors. "For one freaking second forget about the park profits. You have an asset out of containment, that will kill everyone on this island!" Claire tilts her head down at my words when I pointed to a screen showing all the guests. I hated to yell at her but she needed to realize the problem.
"You made a genetic hybrid, raised it in captivity, she is seeing all of this for the first time." Owen points his index finger towards the screens with his right hand. "She does not even know what she is. She will kill everything that moves!" A genetic hybrid. Owen said it, that was what I am. But I was also human. Not raised in captivity. She will kill us all.
Owen pulled me into the elevator by my right elbow linked through his angrily storming out of the control room. Running his hands through his hair pacing back and forth in frustration. I leaned my back against the wall, rubbing my hands down my arms. How could anyone think a hybrid dinosaur would be a good idea.
"Owen. They'll realize we're right at some point." I tried calming him down by speaking in my normal tone. But truly more for myself about the question. Dr. Wu created me in the lab of this island. Am I man made weapon, like Hoskins stated.
Owen locks eyes with me, striding in front of me. "Y/n. . . " he trails off getting inches away from me, causing me to press my back further in the metal of the elevator.
His strong right hand tilts my chin up before coming down almost brushing my lips with his. "I have feelings for you too." Sucking in a deep breath I felt my heart beating faster. Owen and I were never this close, but now it's even more embarrassing that he knows about my deep crush on him.
"Owen, you don't have to lie if you don't feel the same-" I was cut off feeling his lips land on mine softly. I gasped kissing him back wrapping my arms around his neck. Owen smiles into the kiss mumbling against my lips as I run my fingers through his dirty blonde locks. "I'm not lieing, trust me."
"No matter what happens please stay here where it's safe." He breathed once we broke for air. I nodded my head slowly leaning up, putting my lips on his in quick perk kiss.
Owen growls a little making me laugh. "We'll finish that later."
"Agreed" He replied back. We kissed.

she's all yours | okuyasu x reader
Tumblr media
summary: unlike his partner in crime, Okuyasu lacked experience in the dating field. Once he believes that he may have a chance with his crush, his best friend begins to get in the way.
words: 1.8k
disclaimers/tags: fem pronouns, modern AU (basically just phones being involved), tiny bit of angst, fluff, and cursing.
Tumblr media
He was staring again. The poor 16-year-old boy couldn't help but notice every single detail about her: the slight tilt in her walk whenever she went up the stairs, how she would tie her shoes, and the unfortunate glint of light in her eyes whenever she spoke with his best friend.
Y/n L/n was someone extremely special to him (whether she knew it or not). She could read his expressions so clearly, sometimes knowing more about Okuyasu than Okuyasu did himself. The emotions he couldn't quite put his finger on, she always had an answer to. At times, he felt undeserving of the friendship he had with her. After coming to terms with his developing feelings for the girl, of course she began to get closer with his best friend.
He was painfully aware of the difference in treatment he received compared to Josuke. While Josuke could be referenced as Morioh's pretty-boy delinquent, Okuyasu was more like the intimidating ruffian that stood by his side. Obviously, Y/n did not think of Okuyasu in that way, but her perception of him didn't matter if he was considered nothing more than a friend.
"Hey," Josuke called out, concerned for his friend.
"Y-Yeah?" Okuyasu stuttered, trying to regain his thoughts.
"Whatcha lookin' at?"
Okuyasu silently thanked Y/n for standing in a crowd with other students. If she stood any further from the school's front entrance, it would've been easy for Josuke to pinpoint who he was eyeing.
"Nothing, really. Just thought I saw a cute girl."
Josuke shrugged his shoulders, repositioning himself so his back laid more comfortably against the tree. "Well, if you do see one, ask 'em out or somethin'. I wanna see you have your first kiss before we graduate," he chuckled.
"Mhm, yup," Okuyasu responded, eyes now glued to the grass he was sitting on. He was about to spew out a self-deprecating joke but stopped himself once he noticed Y/n approaching the two of them. Immediately, he recognized Josuke's energy shift from disinterest to eagerness.
"Y/n!" Josuke cheerfully said, waving at the girl.
"Hi, you two!" she waved back. Once coming close enough, she sat down along with the boys, her knees lacing together in a criss-cross position. Because of the short distance between her and Okuyasu, the boy could smell the flowery essence emitting off of her body. He wasn't too fond of fragrances, but the one Y/n had was light and sweet-- perfectly suiting her personality.
Before he knew it, Okuyasu was staring again. The only thing that got him to snap back into reality was the cry of laughter Y/n let out after Josuke made a funny remark.
"Did you hear that Okuyasu?" Y/n choked out, leaning back with both hands on her stomach.
"Y-Yeah." Okuyasu fake laughed, really having no clue what the hell was going on.
"God," Y/n sighed as she wiped off the faint tears forming in her eyes. "I wish I could hang out with you guys a bit longer, but I just wanted to drop by and say hi. I gotta help out with some chores tonight."
"It's all good," Josuke smiled. "But only if you promise to call me tonight."
The girl rolled her eyes while getting up from the ground. "We'll have to see about that, Jojo!" She then stuck her tongue out before scurrying off to her house.
Josuke chuckled, slowly placing his chin on the palm of his hand. "She's pretty cute, isn't she?" he said, eyes glued to the girl's figure in the distance.
"Yeah, she sure is."
* * *
Okuyasu could remember the first time he met her as clear as day: his hands were tucked deep into his pockets, feet dragging along the sidewalk while he was on his way to school. Unlike his regular routine, Josuke was unable to walk with him due to an argument breaking out between him and his mother. It seemed like a bummer at the moment, but maybe it was actually a blessing in disguise.
"Fuck!"
In front of Okuyasu's feet laid a girl. Her uniform was stained with a bright red juice and its can rolled next to her. He didn't recall exactly what happened, but he did feel someone's face hit his chest before hearing a thud.
"I didn't get any on you, did I?" the girl asked with panic.
Okuyasu, hands still in his pockets, shook his head. "Mnn. Don't think you did."
"Okay, thank God. These stains are so hard to get rid of."
That was one of the first things that Okuyasu remembered from Y/n. Her casual way of talking was enough to make any stranger feel like a good friend. Something about this girl piqued his interest.
"Guess it's not your first time, huh?" he hummed.
"You'd think I'd learn my lesson after the third time."
After the small accident, Okuyasu took the girl to the laundromat. Classes would begin in any minute, but neither one of the pair minded skipping it.
"Oi, what're you gonna be wearin' in the meantime? Don'tcha think the teacher's gonna kick your ass for showing up like that?" Okuyasu pointed at the revealing tank top she wore.
"Yeah, definitely. That's why you should totally let me borrow your top," she winked.
"Don't get too ahead of yourself. I don't even have a clue on what your name is."
"L/n." she replied crassly. "It's Y/n L/n."
That was several months ago. Since then, their relationship started to significantly grow. From sending short texts to sharing a few inside jokes, to hanging out every other day after school. In Okuyasu's eyes, it was inevitable for him to fall for a girl like her.
Right before he could spill about his crush to his best friend, Josuke had already introduced himself to her. It crushed Okuyasu to see the girl he loves slowly start to move on from him-- to his own best friend nevertheless.
All of his frustrations were best to be kept to himself. No way could he express his jealousy to Josuke or Y/n. Out of all the girls that fawned over Josuke, why did she have to be one of them?
**Brring**
Okuyasu rolled his body to the other side of his bed. On a nightstand was his phone that rang. The alarm was just loud enough to break through the pessimistic thoughts roaring through his brain.
"Who's this?" he asked, too lazy to check the contact number.
"It's me, Okuyasu! Why, is it that hard to use a second of your time to check the contact name?"
He recognized that voice anywhere. It was her.
"Aw, look. I was in bed, alright?" he smiled, feeling his mood change immediately after speaking with her.
A small giggle echoed from the other end of the phone. "Alright! I wasn't here to nag you all night anyways." The girl then cleared her throat with a cough before soon speaking again. "I was thinking we should hang out tomorrow. For ice cream, maybe. Just us."
Small butterflies began to form in his stomach from hearing the last sentence. "Just us" had never sounded better.
"Sounds good to me."
"Great!" she nearly interrupted. "A-Ah, sorry! I just got excited. It feels like we've been parting ways the past couple of weeks, but I promise tomorrow's gonna make up for it!"
"It's alright," Okuyasu sighed. "See you tomorrow?"
"See you tomorrow!" she repeated.
* * *
Was it just Okuyasu or did she look way cuter today? The makeup she wore differed from the one she usually had on, her accessories managed to compliment her eyes even more, and she even put an effort into customizing her uniform like Josuke and Okuyasu despite expressing her laziness multiple times. She looked like an absolute doll.
"Hmph." She huffed. "You've been doing that a lot lately," she said flatly.
"Doing what?"
"Staring at me like I'm some crazy person."
Okuyasu internally panicked for a few seconds but composed himself. "You just look pretty lately, that's all."
He expected a cheeky comeback in return but was left with a bashful smile from her instead.
"Let's just hurry up and get ice cream..." she said, eyes faced to the ground.
Okuyasu nodded at her suggestion and began to walk, making sure his pace wasn't too fast for Y/n. He'd occasionally give a glance at her direction to know if he was walking at a comfortable speed for her.
Several minutes of walking and a few casual conversations later, the duo made it to the ice cream shop. Y/n ordered a mix of her two favourite flavours while Okuyasu ordered two scoops of mocha almond fudge. Feeling a bit more gentleman-like today, Okuyasu insisted on paying for the both of them.
"Thanks for the ice cream!" the girl said, taking a small lick of the cone. "I feel like the more I hang out with you, the more things I owe you back," she chuckled as the two left the shop.
"Don't sweat it. Hangin' out with you's enough for me." Okuyasu smiled.
"Ah, really?" she blushed. "That's... really sweet of you."
There she did it again. No witty comeback. Just a flustered reply.
"Somethin' up with you? Eat something bad today?" he asked.
"Hm?"
"You're just actin' a bit different, that's all. Not sayin' it's bad though. I kinda like it." Okuyasu continued to walk on the sidewalk but stopped once he realized Y/n was frozen still. "Hey, you comin'?"
Y/n began to slowly jog her way to Okuyasu. When she caught up with him, she paused once more, now looking into the young boy's eyes. "I feel like you don't hear yourself talk sometimes," she said. "I can't tell if you're flirting or you're just naturally this oblivious."
He didn't know how to respond. He was starting to get nervous from how close their faces were. If he wanted to, he could practically count each beauty mark on her face.
"Well?" she said.
"Well..." Okuyasu tried to come up with something but found himself paying more attention to the girl's lips. They looked plush and soft with a slight glossy coat from the ice cream.
Eventually, the girl noticed where he was looking at. Slowly, she closed the already small gap between the two.
"Okuyasu," she breathed out with a gentle tone. "I really like you."
"I-" he stuttered. "Not Josuke?"
"Josuke?" She covered her mouth with the back of her hand and chuckled. "I don't know what you think is going on between us, but it's not that. He's not exactly my type either."
Okuyasu couldn't believe what he was hearing. Before he could say anything back, he felt her lips against his right cheek. It was a delicate kiss. Maybe a bit sticky, but it made his heart do several backflips nevertheless.
Once her lips left his skin, she stood awkwardly in front of him. The way she looked up at his eyes with that lovestruck gaze made Okuyasu realize something he didn't before: he wouldn't need to jealous of other guys. It was clear that Y/n L/n was all his.

[I am always drowned in the thoughts of you. I get exhausted from crying, but I look for traces of you again...]
Tumblr media
The patter of the rain hitting the window has been the only thing that has set the gloomy place for the last couple of hours.
The catheter placed with an uncomfortable sticky tape on the back of your hand feels heavier and heavier. Your eyelids shutting even when you try to keep them open. You're tired despite only spending all the time laying on that stretcher.
Some nurses come from time to time to make sure you're comfortable and you only nod tightly to the questions they make; a routine that you don't have the energy to hate.
Of course, not all days are like this. Sometimes you wake up in a good mood and the personnel would take you out to the small garden behind the hospital, pulling your wheelchair since you're still weak, but it is still something. You would smile and take the sun on good days like those, and if a familiar visited,  they would bring you your painting tools for you to clear your head and have a good time.
But you haven't had good days, lately.
Your friends called you constantly and, when you had enough energy to respond, you tried to put your best smile for them.
You didn't see it as a bad thing, though. They didn't need to know that you were going through thick.
But there was someone you couldn't lie to.
"The receptionist told me 'You can see your fiancé now.'" Jaebeom says as he walks towards you, placing a cute bouquet of flowers on the small table next to you. He looks stunning and always walks in with the hugest smile on his face to greet you. Probably to lift up your mood, too. "Was that an insinuation?"
You can't help but giggle at that, "Maybe. But also they wouldn't let you in if I said you were only my boyfriend. And I don't want to keep this lie."
"Then I better hurry up, right?" He smiles, placing a kiss on your forehead and dragging the chair next to you, taking seat as he grabs your hand tightly. "As soon as you are discharged, I'll put a ring on your finger. I promise."
You keep the big smile to him and cup his cheek with your free hand, being careful because of the catheter. "I've missed you."
"I've missed you so much more," He murmurs. His semblance suddenly changing. "We've been really busy with the tour now that it is starting soon, I'm sorry. I wish I could see you everyday."
"It's okay, love. I understand."
A silence sets in after that. Jaebeom closes his eyes and enjoys your touch for a moment while you observe him in detail; every mole, every mark on his skin, his warm breath against your wrist and his grip on your hand, as if he would never want to let you go.
When he opens his eyes again they're full of tears. You don't even recall when was the last time you've seen him cry.
"Why are you crying? What's wrong?" You ask, sliding your thumb across his cheek to erase every trace of tears falling down.
"I'm sorry," Jaebeom softly whispers. "I hate that I can't do anything else for you."
You sigh, bringing him closer and moving a little, making a space for him to cuddle with you. "Come here. Don't cry."
He does as told, hiding his face in the crook of your neck, calming his nervousness with heavy breaths. It breaks your heart to see him like this.
Your boyfriend gets to calm himself as minutes pass by, with the help of your hand tracing circles on his back, and sweet words whispered to his ears.
You two get to talk properly afterwards, telling each other about how your days have been, although Jeobeom did most of the talk and you only listened, occasionally commenting about it and also asking about your friends.
"As usual, the boys send you greetings and hugs, but only I get to do that, right?" He chuckles, kissing your forehead for the nth time and making you blush. "They might even pop up at the videocall tonight since we'll be rehearsing."
"That's good, don't tell them I said this, but I actually miss seeing their faces and hearing their voices everyday."
Jaebeom laughs at that. "No wonder why I see Bambam sending you voice notes all the time."
A nurse comes back a moment later to let you know that the visiting hours is now over, so Jaebeom stands up and kisses you goodbye, "Don't forget that-"
"-we have a date. For dinner at half past eight. As we do almost every night. Of course I won't forget."
He smiles at you and kisses you again. "And that I love you."
"I love you too." You murmur with a smile and see him walk out of the room.
The nurse changes the serum, as usual, and you only stare at her, not knowing if you should ask...
"Is everything alright, ____?" She asks.
You've known her for a while now, it's almost as if you two were friends, but still, you were still undecided about something that has been in the back of your head for a couple of days.
"Noona, could you do something for me?"
Tumblr media
GOT7's tour was about to kick off two weeks after that visit, although it wasn't the last one. Jaebeom did make sure to visit you whenever he could; after rehearsing or even skipping his time to have meals to rush in to the hospital -thing that you obviously scolded him for, but he promised he would get something in his way back-. He also made sure to show you clips of the rehearsals and some videos with messages from the boys for you, which you truly loved.
However, even if that lifted your spirits, it wasn't enough to make you feel better from the terrible days you've had. Not only you couldn't move and hang out as you did weeks ago, but you were feeling so weak that most of the time you would spend it sleeping. In one of Jaebeom's visit you two were talking until you fell asleep, and next thing you know he was saying goodbye again with a worried expression on his face.
And the worst thing is that you didn't have to be a genius to know the reason why. The disguised words you heard from your doctor were enough confirmation for you to know what was about to come.
And you definitely weren't ready for it.
"So? You got good news for me?" You ask the nurse once you see her entering the room.
She tilts her head and sees the hope shining in your eyes, despite looking so small and weak. "Yes. I talked with the doctors and they gave the authorization."
And that was enough for you to feel happy for the rest of the day.
Tumblr media
"Are you sure you are okay?"
Unlike other days, today you have woken up happy and eager to go out. You suppose it is normal because you have anxiously waited for this day to come
You nod as an answer and the nurses carefully help you to get ready.
To say you were nervous was an understatement. You weren't even sure how did the idea come to mind, but you were really determined to do it. And as you get in the van, you quickly send a message to Jinyoung to let him know that you were on your way there.
You've thoroughly planned all this; after all, it was a surprise for Jaebeom.
Of course he couldn't believe his eyes. He froze in his place while the boys almost ran to hug you; Jinyoung pushing the chair behind you and telling them to be careful, but you were too happy to even care about the bone crushing hugs you were receiving. It was all you wanted.
Jaebeom walks slowly to you and gives you a hug when they're done, letting out a sigh he didn't even know he was holding.
"Really? H-how did you even- Are you okay?" He asks, concerned, to which you laugh and nod.
"I'm good, hyungie. The doctor allowed it and I've been wanting to see you out of the hospital." You murmur, holding his hands. "And what kind of boyfriend and ahgase I'd be if I didn't attend your first concert of this new tour?"
They all seem very happy because they haven't seen you in a long time, so it's not surprising that everyone is around you all the time in backstage, asking you lots of questions and updating you on everything that happened since the last time they saw you, although no big news since you're used to chat and videocall them quite often.
While they are fascinated to have you there, Jaebeom seems to be more quiet and with a worried expression, indecipherable. You wonder if he knows or at least suspects about the reason behind it.
The concert finally starts and after more worried looks from your boyfriend, you decide to see from the first row the entire show. Even Yugyeom got you a lightstick for you to cheer them up, and Jaebeom stressed that whatever you needed you could ask anyone from the staff.
It goes pretty well, and you didn't feel uncomfortable or bad at all, but that didn't stop your boyfriend from making sure you were indeed okay every time he could; approaching the side of the stage right where you stayed and nodding in your direction from time to time, and the fans close to you were respectful and careful with your space.
Jaebeom gets somewhat sentimental while performing some songs, and when he stares back at you, you know it. He knows it.
So the first thing he does when the concert is over and gets to backstage is kneel in front of you and cry on your lap.
The boys don't understand the situation, but they leave you two alone for a moment, thinking that maybe their leader was too emotional tonight.
"What are you hiding from me? What have the doctors said?" He gets to babble while the tears are covering his face.
You're hurt from seeing him crumble like this in front of you, so you cry too, holding his hands and tracing circles on their back, trying to calm him down.
"Nothing you don't already know," You say. "You've seen me. I'm not doing well, and... I just had this feeling, I had to see you again, one last t-"
"No." He stops you. The lump on his throat making it harder to speak. "Don't say that. Please."
"Hyung, I'm sorry." You murmur, now caressing his back and placing a kiss on his head. "Please forgive me."
Before going back to the hospital, you say goodbye to your friends, who seem to now be understanding of the situation, but being too shocked to even say anything about it. They hug you more and try to lift the mood making lighthearted jokes that genuinely make you laugh.
Jaebeom doesn't want to separate from you anytime; he's either holding your hand or leaving kisses all over your face, letting you sleep on over his chest on your way back and whispering words to your ears.
"I'll come to see you again later today, alright?" He promises as you lay on the bed and get comfortable. "Sleep for now. I'll be here when you wake up."
He kisses you with so much love, not knowing it was the last time he would do it.
He didn't expect to receive that heartbreaking call that soon.
Just when he was getting ready to see you, he received the news, and he couldn't stop crying and shaking for a long moment. His friends were there, trying to calm him and themselves down; hurt by hearing they've just lost you and feeling so wrecked and weak.
Naturally, the next shows were postponed, which raised suspicions and fear among the fans, who saw you just a few hours ago.
Jaebeom has never felt this empty and pained.
A part of him ruthlessly ripped away.
He can’t believe it,
That when he opens his eyes you won't be next to him.
Even if those memories make it hard on him,
It’s on his head again.
Even if he clears out all those memories,
He will always be drowned in the thoughts of you.

ngl, I feel like Shannon might be hinting at Tiana
that's possible. Outside of the main love triangle has been kinda left to it's own devices aside from occasional hints as to others' crushes on each other. Like Jensi likely having a crush on Biana around Exil-Everblaze (I think that's the correct time frame) and Biana having a crush on a Keefe for a while (starting before the series up until part way through).
Based on my memory of the last few books of the series (just started my reread of Legacy today, so my memory is in the process of being refreshed) there's also hints of Dexiana, but I don't think Tiana is off the table.
Shannon has said that when it comes to the characters' feelings, she doesn't decide that and instead lets it do it's own thing, so I don't know if we're going to get a decisive "this is who Biana wants to date!" because she's also still figuring it out. But I'm getting off topic.
when it comes to Tiana, there have been a few vague mentions in the past that could attribute to a future together. i think the most obvious one was in Lodestar when Linh shared with everyone that Tam likes brunettes, and at the time of saying that the only brunette girl in their group was Biana. I don't know if you count Stina now, but now she's kinda part of the group.
There's also how Biana got embarrassed when Fitz brought up how she was looking forward to seeing Tam, after which she brings up crushes. So given how obvious Shannon is with body language in her books (well, it's a thing basically all writers do so) that's a fairly strong point in favor of Tiana as the series comes to a close.
Outside of the telling interactions, though, there's also the fact that they seem to get along well and have spent time together and gotten to know each other. For example, Biana and Tam working together to figure out how the Neverseen got into the Silver Tower in Lodestar. Those interactions afterwards as they explain don't seem flirty, but more like they're being friends and boosting each other. Similar situation when Biana altered the portraits Tam mother did of him and his sister to make them more accurate. It's not necessarily because she's crushing on him, but instead because she understands him and doesn't like seeing him so misrepresented, so unknown by his parents. So she takes that little stand in defense of him.
So if their relationship comes to fruition, it would be built not on anything immediate or uncertain, but on a solid friendship and companionship they've developed over the time they've noticed each other.
So! I don't think Tiana is impossible or that it would come completely out of nowhere should it happen, just that it isn't a done deal yet, if that makes sense. The groundwork has/is being laid, but whether it's followed through on isn't certain. I'm not convinced that Dex is completely out of the picture when it comes to Biana's love life.
and like I said I still need to reread Legacy and Unlocked, so there may be information in there I'm not recalling that would add to this investigation into Biana's love life, so perhaps I can revist this in a few days and see if there's anything additional to be said
but I agree! I think there are plenty of hints towards Tiana, we'll just have to see what actually happens

"Armin... it hurts." You dazed off and felt nothing but sharp pains all over your body.
Your throat was dangerously dry, and your stomach grumbled from the lack of food you couldn't properly digest. You suffered from the feeling of a knife being pushed into your lungs and when you tried to pick up your head, black dots overtook your fuzzy vision. Every time you tried to move a muscle, the pain would exponentially heighten, and experienced your abdomen compress with an exorbitant amount of pressure.
"N-no please don't leave me yet. What about all our plans together? Going to the beautiful forest behind the hills for our anniversary next week, building a house to move in together, getting married, a-and start a family..." Armin's voice cracked as tears cascaded down his cheek and dripped onto your arm.
You sensed a soft warm hand grab yours which caused your heartbeat to quicken as you felt it coarse throughout your body.
This is the end.
You knew this was your last few moments on earth with your soulmate. It was over so fast. Too fast. You couldn't believe you wouldn't be able to fill the promises you made with your lover. This was your only and last chance at this life, and it was over in nineteen years, only four of them being spent with the person you thought you would grow old with
"Stay away... get sick..." You jerked your arm away from Armin unaware that you didn't feel the need to chug a gallon of water to quench your throat and that the nauseating feeling from hunger completely vanished as you kept slipping in and out of consciousness.
"Don't do this shit to me right now, I'm staying by your side no matter what." He lightly caressed your face not caring about the black lumps that engrossed your skin.
He knew he would become infected sooner or later and understood that this would be it for you even though he couldn't find it in himself to believe it.
"I-I-I'm sorry." You felt the back of your throat get knotted up but couldn't produce any tears.
You slowly moved your hand back down to your side, not feeling the aching pain that had taken over your body, as you barely brushed his fingertips.
"Baby, what are you apolo... not your fault." He looked down to your palm and intertwined his fingers with your cold limp hand. He trailed his eyes back up to your face and saw your closed eyes.
"Y/n?" His breathing became shallow and irregular as he gently shook your body in an attempt to bring you back to consciousness.
You lightly squeezed his hand with the last bit of energy you had in you; letting him know that you were still with him.
This isn't the last time... swear to you we'll find each other again... I'll... protect you. I lo..."
And that was it.
The last words you heard.
Passing away was more peaceful than you imagined. It was just like going to sleep, except you knew that you wouldn't wake up with Armin by your side.
...we'll find each other again...
His last words kept replaying in your mind before your brain completely shut off. It made you happy. He made you happy. You died happy knowing that there was a chance to meet him again, but who are you kidding, this was it. It's over now.
Right?
Present Day
"I don't know if going on a date is the best thing to do right now, Sasha. I just got out of a three-year relationship with Jean and that was really rough." You grab a bag of chips and plop yourself onto your bed.
"Comeeee onnnnnn, y/n, I think you would really get along with this guy. I mean he's smart and kind anddddddddd has a pretty face!" She walks up to you and quickly steals a chip from you.
"Hey! Well as tempting as your mystery man sounds, my professors decided to assign a shitload of work, so I have to get busy." You pull out the box of textbooks from under your bed as you mentally prepare yourself for a draining weekend.
"Ugh, you're hopeless. Well, I'm going with Niccolo for a while, so have fun with... that! But if you change your mind, I'll text you his number." She grabs a Twinkie and skips out of your dorm room.
You figure that maybe she's somewhat right, but you know it's too soon to go out with another person. You and Jean had been together since high school and only broke up because you agreed that both of you needed time to find yourselves in college. It's very apparent that you still have some type of feelings for him even if it isn't love and it certainly didn't help that he goes to the same school as you.
But it is college. Even though the love you have towards Jean is still slightly there, maybe going out with another person was what you need to get over him. Even then, you wasted all your high school years getting good grades and being an A+ student that you never got to enjoy yourself and you weren't going to mess it up again. Besides what's the worst thing that could happen?

While gazing at the contact, you can't quite explain the feeling you have in your stomach and could only call it excitement, but why?
You're just going out with a guy you've never even met before and for all you know, he could be some creepy perv who just wants to make you feel extremely uncomfortable for his own liking. You giggle to yourself as you keep on thinking of worst-case scenarios and become very aware of how in need you are of getting out of your dorm.
You sit and stare at your phone, wondering how to text someone who may not even remember his conversation about you with Sasha. But fuck it, it was just a date.

You feel your face warm up, excited to finally do something out of school and maybe have the possibility to meet someone who could be special. You waste no time sitting around, given that you had only an hour to look your best, and got ready.
You have ten minutes to spare after prepping yourself and decide to walk to the library a bit early. You head out of your dorm, still in disbelief that you're going out with someone who was a stranger. It's definitely more of an exhilarating feeling than a nervous one; this would be the second person you've ever gone out with, Jean being your first and only partner and you have to admit that you feel good. You could feel yourself growing as a person even if this was just a silly first date that could potentially mean nothing.
You make your way to the front of the library and right when you were about to open the door you hear your name being softly called out. You turn around and see a blonde boy with a blue-collar shirt and khakis.
Damn, you have no idea who this boy is and you don't care, but why is someone this gorgeous calling out to you? His doll-like skin complexion looks so soft and smooth while his shirt matches his blue eyes perfectly, and his khakis just adding on to his soft persona.
"Are you y/n?" He snaps you out of your thoughts and back to reality.
"Oh, um yes, and you're Armin? How did you know it was me?" You can't keep your eyes off of him. This is the mystery man that Sasha fixed you up with and, fuck, he's more beautiful than you could've pictured.
"Sasha showed me pictures of the two of you and I must say you're more stunning in person." His cheeks turn into a bright pink as he looks down, feeling as if he's embarrassing himself.
"Thank you and you're a lot more attractive than I ever imagined." You give him a friendly smile when he looks back up as he hears your compliment.
"The uh coffee shop is not far off-campus so we can walk if you like." He rubs the back of his neck, unsure how to begin your date.
"Yeah, that sounds great." You both walk together in awkward silence, not knowing how to start a chat with each other.
"So, Armin, what are you majoring in?" You turn your head towards him, but Armin seems to not want to make any eye contact with his hands in his pockets.
"Oceanography."
"That's cool, have you always loved the ocean or are you just experimenting with different fields?" You try to carry on with the conversation, hoping he would open up to your about his studies at the least.
"I've always loved the ocean."
"Are the classes you're taking pretty difficult?" You feel your face heat up as he continues to be difficult about continuing your attempted dialogue.
"No."
You start losing your patience with this boy. It frustrates you that no matter what you did he can't try to at least engage in the conversation. You knew from the beginning that this could've been a disaster, but it hadn't even started, and it's already exasperating.
You start to genuinely think of ideas to bail yourself out before it could get any worse, but no, you're going to finish this date whether it's awful or not and move on with your life. You told yourself you were evolving as a person and to bail would only be taking you a step back from the new you.
"How do you know Sasha," you ask him, making it your last-ditch effort to start a conversation as you arrive at the coffee shop.
"We met through a mutual friend at a party." He opens the door for you and both of you enter the cafe.
You and Armin are kindly greeted by the barista as you walk to to the cashier. Both of you order your drinks and sit at a table that's next to the glass wall.
"So, did you meet Sasha because you're dorm mates?" He finally ignites some type of conversation as he fidgets with his fingers.
"We actually somewhat knew each other through my ex-boyfriend and we randomly got paired to be dorm mates." You grin to yourself, thinking about how close you and Sasha got over the year.
Even if it was a bitter-sweet moment mentioning Jean, that you realize may not have been the best thing to do. You hear you and Armin's name being called, but right when you're about to get up Armin quietly spoke, "Stay here, I got it."
You watch him get up from his seat and walk back over to the cashier. He pulls out his brown leather wallet, pays for both of your drinks, and makes his way back to the table with a cup in each hand.
"Thank you for paying, you really didn't have to do that." You feel your cheeks get hot as you grab your drink, slightly grazing his fingers.
"It was no biggie." He shrugs his shoulder and slumps back to his seat.
Subsequently, the awkward silence is back, but a lot stronger than before. You can't understand why it's so difficult to get along with him if this was the date where you're supposed to get to know each other and have endless topics to discuss. You keep reassuring yourself that this would be over soon anyway and now you know that Armin just isn't the one for you and you're completely fine with that. At this point, you only see Armin as the boy you went on the most awkward date with and didn't even picture him as a friend.
"Sorry about this, I've never done anything like this before," he mumbles while tapping on the side of his cup, not wanting to look at you because he felt ashamed.
"O-oh, don't stress about it too much, it's my first date after getting out of my relationship so we're on the same boat." You both exchange warmhearted smiles, trying to break the tension but nothing seems to work.
"We can go back to campus. I have some assignments I need to finish up anyways," he suggests and you feel the weight being lifted off your shoulders. Even though Armin seems like a great person, both of you assume that your wavelengths couldn't match, and it was just best to end it.
"Yeah, that sounds good. I also need to catch up on schoolwork as well." Both of you grab your drinks and head back to school without trying to strike a conversation, knowing that it would just make the tension even more awkward.
As soon as you make it back to your dorm, you must say that you never feel happier to arrive in your shitty box.
"Well, thank you for the coffee and I hope you have a great weekend."
"Yeah, you too." You both wave bye and you walk into your dorm, feeling displeased.
While you didn't expect your date to be completely perfect and for you and Armin to fall in love, this was by far the last thing you wanted to happen.
It didn't take long for you to forget what had transpired as you change to comfortable clothes and start heavily working on your assignments. While you were finishing up on one of your worksheets, you feel your phone vibrate and see a text from Sasha.

Ring of Fire - Alex Mason X Reader
Mason saves you from an apartment fire. Are you happy? No. But, did you just meet a very attractive man? Yes.
TW: Strong language, fire, eventual fluff!
Tumblr media
"Alex Mason! Meet me in my office please!' Is what Mason heard after a long, hard, and hot training.
Mason felt anxiety by the way his drill sergeant spoke to him like that. So, Mason hauled ass to the office, and stood professionally until the drill sergeant finally came in.
"Ma'am" Mason said with confidence, in attention.
"At ease Lieutenant. Now, take a seat. I have something to discuss with you." She said, sitting down and pulling a file out.
Mason took a seat, and watched her pull a thick, yellowish file from her desk. She opened it and layed out several pieces of paper in front of Mason so he could see everything. He took a closer look and saw something for the local fire department, a look of confusion clouded his face.
"Lieutenant Mason, you are being asked to take part in giving a hand to the Fair Banks Fire Department. Their chief has been layed off for a while due to a recent building fire, and they need men. And you just so happen to be the perfect candidate for helping out!" The drill sergeant said, pulling out a cigarette.
Mason was hesitant, he didn't know how to feel. He was afraid that he might fuck up and get someone hurt. Or worse, killed. But, he already worked in that part of the field. One mistake and it means death.
"Drill Sergeant Rivers, I don't have the proper training for this kind of thing. So why am I being picked?" He questioned.
She hit her cigarette and exhaled. She shot a glaring look back at him, while reaching for a pen nearby.
"Mason, they wouldn't just send you in with no training. They are offering on the job skills training and certification. You provide won't even be working there for very long anyways, they just need help until the Chief comes back. So that means, you'll be chief Alex Mason for a whole three months!" Rivers spoke, ashing her cigarette.
Rivers slid him a pen, and gave a devious smile. She pointed to the words on the contract as she spoke.
"We'll still be paying what you make here hourly, and they will also pay you for the position. You'll receive a work vehicle, and housing options if you are interested. But, if you will, please sign here, and here. And then finally, date this at the bottom."
Mason sighed, and grabbed the pen.
"I really hope this isn't a stupid idea, Drill Sergeant Rivers. I'll still have my position here in the Marines, right?" Mason asked.
"Of course, Lieutenant. You are the best of the best. Besides, I don't think Frank would last very long without you." She said with a chuckle.
Mason signed the papers, and slid them back over to Rivers. She quickly and carefully tucked them away safely into the left pocket of the folder, and set it off to the side.
"Thank you, Mason. The Fire Department is going to welcome you with open arms, and everyone is going to greatly appreciate what you are doing. Now, why don't you get on out of here and head over to the Fire Department. The director is anticipating your arrival at 0700 hours. You are dismissed."
Mason stood up, and quickly saluted Rivers. He turned on his heel, and gathered his things. Woods come up to him and patted his back. Mason looked back at Frank.
"Man, what was that about? Sounded like you were in some hot ass water. Did she find out about last weeks breakout?" Woods asked with a smirk.
Mason slapped him, and told him to stay quiet. Mason rolled his eyes, and started walking. Woods followed close.
"No, she didn't. I actually have gotten assigned to something new all together, but just for 6 months. So it looks like you'll be a lone wolf until I get back." Mason said.
"Wait, where in the fuck are you going? And when the hell are you comin' back??" Frank asked as they stepped into the elevator.
Mason clicked up, and the doors shut. It took them up to ground parking.
"I'm filling in for a Fire Chief for a while, I got personally hand picked for the job is what I got told."
"Well brother, you can't argue with that. We are still gonna have boys night on Friday's, right?" Frank asked, before getting out at where the elevator stopped.
Mason laughed, and nodded.
"Of course man, as always. Bring a 30 pack this time!" He shouted to Frank as the door closed.
"My ass!" Frank called out.
Mason patiently waited as it took him up. The elevator dinged, and the doors opened. He walked to his pickup truck and got in. He slammed his door shut and laid his head back onto his seat.
'I hope I don't fuck up.' Was all he repeated to himself.
Months later......
Mason was heading to his office with a newly made friend, Dixon. Dixon was a higher up who worked with everyone, so he frequented Mason. They had coffee in hand, and were ready for safety reports.
"Oh shit, Dix. Do you remember any information on the structure at the controlled burn on the corner of Euclid and Odin we did? I need details for my JHA but I can't recall shit for some fucked reason." Mason asked as they both sat down.
"I can tell you that it had 5 stories, and over 50 apartments in it. Oh, it stood next to Crane Run Bakery. The ignition was faulty wiring, right?" Dixon responded.
"No, it was a gas line pipe. The faulty wiring happened at that bowling alley on Curtis Avenue. But thank you, hopefully I can get this JHA filled out how I should!" Mason said.
Dixon went on with Mason for about 30 minutes about baseball and football. Mason filled out his paperwork, ordered new parts for gear and trucks, and inspected everything with a fine tooth comb. It was a normal night shift for the fire crew, until the alarm system began to wail.
"We have a structure fire on Linden Ave, at 26435 Linden. Possible civilians trapped." Dispatch called through the speakers.
Within minutes, the whole shift was suited up and already in the truck and headed Northbound. Mason was behind the wheel, lights and sirens at full blast. The roads were dead at this time, minus the few cars that happened to be out at 2 AM.
"Dispatch, tell me what we're looking at. I have another truck enroute to said location, and about three ambulances. How high are flames?" Mason asked, keeping his eyes on the road.
"Dispatch here, we have flames about 20 feet up and rising. Recommend you get here quick."
"10-4." Mason responded.
They reached the fire within minutes. When they pulled up the fire was quickly engulfing anything in it's way. Mason knew what needed to be done. But right now, they needed a buidling sweep for any possible trapped people.
"Dixon, set up a crew to stay on hoses, bring about four out and hookup. My team, your with me! We are going in!" Mason said.
Mason put on his face gear, and quickly looked around for a way in. He spotted a perfect way in through a safe looking way. He quickly pointed his team that direction, and headed in. He always made sure to go ahead of his crew so he could determine what was happening.
He got in, midst the hot heat, heavy flames, and the small mist screen of water he'd feel periodically. He lead the way, and began to check every corner and possible place to hide he could. They swept the buidling for a grand total of 30 minutes before Mason determined it was clear.
"Head back everyone. Everything is clear, no indication of anyone." Mason said through the radio.
Everyone headed outside, Mason being left so he could check more. By now, the flames were out. The only thing left was smoking ruble and hot ashes. Mason carefully looked around, and looked even closer at a piece of burnt wood that was beginning to move.
Without thinking, he pulled it back, and revealed a small door that had shut, but by either luck or circumstance, hadn't been burned. Mason soon heard pounding on the metal door, and he went to open it. But it was behind blocked by something.
He struggled to open it completely, the pounding was now more frequent. He pulled with all his might, but it wouldn't budge. He could hear the sounds of a female crying, and begging for the door to be opened. Mason's adrenaline kicked in at this moment.
"I found a live one! Bring in a large ax for me, this damn for isn't opening!" Mason shouted into the radio.
"Miss, I'm going to need you to step away as far as you can from the door! We are going to cut it open! Shield your face until I get you!" Mason yelled.
He took out his small ax, and began to chop away at the hinges. But, the small ax could stand no chance against the hard metal. Instead, he quickly turned and saw Dixon with the industrial ax. He took it, and with brute strength, he swung done with control and accuracy.
The hinges slowly began to break away, until finally the door popped right off. Mason gave the ax back, and quickly threw the door off. He looked back down inside, and saw a girl about his age, coughing her lungs out. He wasted no time, and held his hand out.
She took it, and Mason lifted her out. He quickly adjusted her so she'd be against his back, to where he kept a good grip on her and carried her out. She was covered in black ash and soot, and was damp with water and sweat from the heat.
Once they were out, Mason quickly sat the girl on the gurney and took his respirator off. He secured it around her face, and up to her mouth and nose. The fresh oxygen would help her with breathing, seeing as if her lungs just went through extreme stress.
"Are you alright? Is there anybody else down in that basement?" Mason asked once her breathing returned to normal.
She looked at him, and slipped the mask off.
"No, it was just me. I was just trying to do my laundry for work, and that's when the door slammed shut and I couldn't get out....."
Mason felt a pang in his heart for this beautiful lady.
"Well, you are alright now. We are going to have EMS check you out, and ride you to the hospital to run standard tests." Mason said, giving a smile.
He took his respirator back and turned on his heels. He walked away to regroup with his crew, and Dixon. They cleaned up best they could, and headed back to the station for a shower and change of clothes.
Months After....
Mason sat in the town sqaure, drinking a coffee in his uniform. He was sat on one of the square benches, reading the paper as he waited on Woods. It was Friday, they were going to play poker after a long, exhausting week.
"Excuse me, sir? May I sit with you?" A voice said.
Mason looked up from his paper, and confusion hit him. A familiar looking face flooded his view, but he just couldn't place it. Her face had small bandaids, and a few purple bruises.
"Well, of course. Do I know you?" He questioned.
She sat down, only then did Mason notice the green box in her beat up hands.
"My name is Y/N Y/L/N, you actually saved my life in a fire on Linden street, I talked to a man named Dixon at the fire house to where I could find you.....I have something for you here." She said, handing it to him.
"No Miss, I can't take that. I was just doing my job, I don't need a reward. Seeing you alive and breathing is reward enough." Mason said.
She pushed the small box towards him. The smile on her face was warm, and made Mason feel butterflies.
"Please, I insist." Was all she said.
Mason took the box and opened the lid. Inside was a beautifully made chocolate cake, all kinds of different snacks, and a check of $15,000 dollars.
"Miss, no, I can't. This is way too much money, I will not take it." Mason said, putting it back.
"Please sir, I don't mind. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you. It would mean so much to me. If anything, please donate it to your firehouse." Y/N said.
"I will do just that then. We've been needing new parts for months...."
Mason looked back up at Y/N, and smiled.
"I'm Alex Mason by the way, I'm glad to see you are recovering well. Maybe I could take you to dinner sometimes?" He asked slyly.
You chuckled, and nodded.
"Of course, I'd love that.

Seven sighed as One disappeared when it was time to pack everything "Is he always like that or is he just being purposefully annoying?”
“How the fuck would I know?!” Three slammed a crate on the ground, holding his back like an old man.
“Who?” you were all packing the mission’s gear in the Haunted House.
“One,”
“Purposefully, no doubt!” you chuckled.
Later you knocked on his trailer door,
"Old man, we have to talk,"
"Let me guess, you want a bigger trailer so you and skater boy could go at it, not gonna happen,"
"Hum .. not exactly, look I know it's the first rule you told us about, and we broke it, actually 4 of us broke it. We're human One,"
He sighed "I just.. need you to be focus on the job."
"We are fo-.."
"Getting shot prove that you were focus," he threw his phone on the desk
"Alright you got a point,"
"These numbers are for your own safety," he stated angrily "but I guess now it's all fucked up."
"Not necessarily, I mean, now we all know each other better, we have better bonds,"
"Tell me about it," you smirked at his saying "... actually don't," he furrowed his eyebrows as you chuckled.
"Think about it," you pointed out as you were stepping out "this team, could do so much more,"
He nodded and something snapped.
"Hold on," he rummaged through a drawer to finally hand you a silver key, his eyes changed for a second “Might be cliché but he would have been proud.”
Smiling slightly at One, you left to open your brother's safe.
There were photographs, a few envelopes with the same cachet and a P/O box address on it.
One of the photographs, in black and white yellowed by the time showed your Mamma and Papa at your age in front of the Coliseum, looking happy as ever, the warmth of their smiled enveloping you instantly. Another one with your Mamma in swims wear gracefully sat on the sand, holding both of you. You were so tiny, wearing terrible hats and frowning at the sun. You found yourself laughing, a tear landing on the envelope’s corner behind the pictures.
Setting aside those pictures, you flicked the envelope open. Eyes scanning the document multiple times you were not sure what you were reading. Palm against your agape mouth, you read the main text.
 “Dear Anonymous donator,
We would like to thank you for all these years of generosity. Your help has given access healthcare to people in dread need of it. With the help of caring people such as yourself, we have been able to afford the construction of a new volunteer centre, which will provide a facility to help maximize the amount of lives we can save.
Your last donation in date had us all profoundly touch and grateful.
We will never not be thankful enough. We wish we had a name to put on the facility’s wall. But we respect your privacy and so we’ll stop asking from now on.
All proceeds of your donations advance our lifesaving mission.
Thank you, dear anonymous donator.“
The tears blurred your vision until you couldn't see through it. He had found his anchor.
You cried, not of sadness but of proudness. For you he was still the kid throwing stones on the neighbor’s roof, the one who couldn’t sleep on stormy nights, the teen who cried when his crush rejected him. He was your anchor for years.
One paid you much more than you needed to live. You assumed now your brother had donated the payment. And all these years when he worked multiple jobs... it all became clear.
"You were the better twin, baby brother!" You mumbled to yourself.
Weeks later the Donations continued yet the anonymous donator had a found an alias.
Six
Passing by the pool you stopped once more before leaving the scorching desert until One would need you.
Weeks ago you brother was laughing at you on the other side of this very pool, these memories were gold now, they didn’t make you sad anymore, you grinned remembering him holding his chest while laughing on the ground, little fucker.
“Hey luv,”
“Hey,” he sat next to you on the edge of the empty pool
"So we're out?" His hand snaked around your waist bringing you closer.
"Not for now," you smiled thinking about this time spend with this weird squad, eager for a new operation.
“So where shall we go until next,”
“You're ready to stick with me? Are you mad?" He laughed as you touched his forehead for any kind of fever.
"Banged my head a few times yeah, but I'm pretty sure I'm mad...about you."
"God you spent to much time around One." He gently reached for your jaw turning your head to him, the blush creeping on your cheeks not helping to hide that you actually liked that he was ready to come with you anywhere, he leaned in for a quick kiss.
.
The warm air and sounds of busy streets of Italy passing through the ajar window woke you up. Looking at your watch on the bedside table you immediatly turn your back to it, snuggling back into Four's chest. Too early. The night was short.
"What do you say about Transylvania?" he mindlessly ran pattern on your back with his warm fingers.
"For what? Vampire retreat?"
"Hiking, but I can bite" feeling his teeth of soft spot on your neck you squirmed.
"Aouch, alright, we'll go to Transylvania tomorrow. I got to see my brother first."
He nodded, his smile sliding off.
"What?"
"I'm...I'm not really comfortable with...mourning," he played with your fingers on his chest avoiding your look "I ..uh.."
"Calm down babe," you straddled him, the sheet sliding down your bare body "I'm not asking you to come with me." You chuckled at his concerned face, and his lost of attention at the sight of your naked body.
He sighed, "You know he was like a brother to me..." you tilted your head watching him
"That would be weird.." you removed your hands from his
"shit no not a brother," he caught your hands putting them right back on his chest" a .. a best friend,"
"Stop talking," you leaned in, enclosing his lips with yours. His hands immediatly reached your tighs, you felt a shiver ran his chest as your finger brushed his skin from his throat to his navel. A firm squeezed on your thighs made you giggled, he was so easy to trigger.
He sat up, one of his arm tightly set around your low back while the other snake to your back, his hand holding the back your neck. A lovely mess of tangled limbs in silk sheet was all you were. You pushed him back on the bed, holding his hands up his head.
You nibbled on his earlobe, and chuckled when he groaned at the ministrations trying to fight your hold on him. He could easily removed himself from your grip, guess he wouldn't this time.
Finding your way down his neck, chest, navel ... taking your sweet time until you reach the point of no return. He gasped, his head lolling back on the pillow "God I love Italy,"
.
“Ciao brother” cross seating at the grave of his fake death, there were flowers already with a cup of mochaccino beside it, you laughed, only One person could have done that. Glancing at your own grave, you shivered at your name engraved in the marble stone.
You recall the all mission as if your twin was there listening to you, “This one is for you, and the next, and the next.” You breathe in feeling tears coming up, “I kept your cross," you scoffed, "you can thank Four for that. As long as I have it, I’ll have you, mammà and papa with me promise.” kissing the cross you left a single tear rolled down your face.
One knew how to be a ghost, perfectly, no one could trace him, anyone but you. .... The gps tracker in his watch helped. If he knew, he’d probably wouldn’t be happy, but hey he is your cash source can’t lose an eye on him.
“So, that’s your secret!” looking at the little boy in the playground whom looked like the man beside you.
“Shit! He jumped
“Hey,” you grinned leaning on the grid, sliding your shades down.
“Aren’t you supposed to be OUT of Italy?” he groaned
“It’s my homeland One, what’d you expect?” you pointed at your wig and shades “Disguise,”
“It’s always better than Three’s in Vegas,” He joked “You’re kicked out, it’s immediate,” He stated, not even believing it himself.
“Yeaaaah, I don’t think so,” you nudged his shoulder. A ghost of a grin appeared knowingly.
"Do you follow everyone, or are you my private stalker?"
"You really wanna know!?" You shifted on your two feet, he got the idea that everyone had a stalker in the name of Eight.
"Cleavers," you used his own line
"Shut up," he answered tired of your shit, resulting in you laughing a bit too loud.
Regaining a sense of calm you felt he was still uneasy about you seeing his son. “Your secret is safe with me old man,” He nodded a tight smile on his lips, and somehow he knew he could trust you.
“Haunted house, in a week.”
“Noted.” Saluting with two-fingers you took a few steps back still eyeing him with fondness, proudness, maybe not just a cash source in the end. He flicked you off, a bright smile spread on your face.
“Where’s Four by the way?” he called out
“Somewhere on the roofs, he can’t help it.”
He lifted his head, you took this time to disappear around the corner.
Calling Four you stumble upon his voicemail “Skater boy, you better bring down your cute ass. We’re heading back to the Haunted House in a week. Mission 2 is coming. Love ya!”
A week later
"Please don't,"
"One, I only hugged her for a second," you rolled your eyes. Five was still holding your shoulders.
"Tell me you're not going to freak out everytime two of us are close,"
Two had a grin on, Five was being clingy on purpose. It had been a month since you've seen everyone, except Four and One. You had missed everyone, Five especially, after the parkour lessons, the incident on the yacht you had become close friends.
"Hey squad," Four let his skate rolled until it hit a wall. He reached you kissing your cheek, then sending you a wink as he took a seat next to Three. You eyed One, holding a laugh, Five carefully removed her hands from around your arm. Four looked dumbfounded as One sighed, staring at you. He then flung his arms in the air.
"Fucking Millennials!"
Thanks to everyone who read, liked, commented on Fucks not Found. It was fun to write, let me know what could be improved, I'm still working on my english that's why everything is not perfect and quite limited. Looking forward a new story. Thanks again.

August 30: Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
(previous notes: Mission: Impossible III)
I bet the powers that be at the Mission: Impossible movie factory didn't lose any sleep over the stupid colon in the title that screws everything up. I mean, just look at that up there with the colon after my date, then the colon in the middle of the OG title, and then it's like, well, you can do whatever you want with punctuation but we're adding a subtitle after it now and you just have to deal with it. On posters and stuff it's just "Mission: Impossible" and then underneath those words they put "Ghost Protocol" so they don't have to deal with it. What a mess. I tell you it is a damn mess is what it is.
Anyway, we have arrived at the M:I movie that, more than any of the others, just really hit the spot for me when I saw it upon its original release. I saw it at the end of a frustrating and tiring work day and it was exactly what the doctor ordered. At some point in the middle I realized that I was enjoying it thoroughly without having to tolerate the kinds of flaws that were apparently part and parcel of this kind of movie. Maybe there were flaws that I just wasn't registering. We'll soon see.
Continuing the tradition of making very hip choices for the directing duties, here we have the live-action directorial debut of Brad Bird, who started off directing episodes of The Simpsons before moving on to no less than The Iron Giant and The Incredibles. Dude had two Oscars on his mantle by the time he showed up for this. Press play already!
Um Sweet Christ those opening shots look gook in 4K like HOO boy
Whoa, neat opening where Sawyer from Lost is chased off the top of a building in Budapest but his jacket deploys an air mattress right as he almost-hits, but then he's shot by Lea Seydoux in an alley, rat-a-tat-tat with the action here, like what is up
Simon Pegg is back, and he's being tricksy with the tech in a prison! He's opening cell doors and the prisoners are surprised and delighted with that twist! He plays them a jazz standard on the intercom and Ethan Hunt suavely emerges from one of the cells. Fun silly things ensue involving Ethan's rebellious and confident independent strategy and a small riot that seems kind of like a bar fight.
He has made a pal in the joint and he's breaking him out. Some kind of cool tech creates a really sweet vortex-y hole in the floor and they are swooped up by their helpers, it's fun.
We're introduced to Paula Patton who is a new team member, and then the credits roll, and they are spirited in a way that recalls the first movie, also showing real scenes from later in the movie.
Flashback to the thing that was happening with Sawyer shows how that botched operation, something about a file and a courier, got Sawyer killed because lots of bad guys were all over the place there. AR contact lens technology figures prominently, and that is a good idea (plus we totally might have those soon, right?).
0:18:16 - Once again we begin the movie without the leading lady from the previous one, but we're starting to get an explanation here. Or just a tease of one I guess.
And quickly we get a sneaky-style self-destructing message that sets up that Ethan has to disguise himself as a specific Russian and sneak into the actual Kremlin. This movie 100% gets what a Mission: Impossible movie is supposed to be.
This time, they aren't using fancy masks or voice shifter things, just costumes and a fake mustache. They comment about that in the dialogue but don't explain why.
0:24:52 - Dialogue mixed SO QUIET here I have no idea what SP just said. It seems like you're supposed to have heard it.
But that is quickly forgotten when they use the coolest spy gadget of them all - a screen that is placed in a corridor that makes the guy at the other end of the corridor think it’s the corridor, but it's a screen and SP & Ethan are hiding behind it and it is super super neato I love it
Then just when it's cool that that is going well, it's suddenly cool how NOT well it's going because someone is spying on their spycraft! The thing they were going to heist isn't there, and someone deliberately makes their comms thing be heard by the bad guys!
And THEN we see something we really didn't think we'd see and it is kind of mind blowing - Ethan escapes from the Kremlin with a very smooth quick-change of his disguise that we see him do in all one shot… but then the Kremlin totally explodes and it explodes all over Ethan as he's running away! It looks amazing!
Right after that there is some fun with subtitles - Ethan is in the hospital all damaged and concussed and stuff, and the news is talking about the obvious big story, and the subtitles are in Russian. At first I was like, "hey is my home theater tech busted?" but no, the subtitles become gradually more in English as Ethan starts to come out of it. Then we see with subtitles that Ethan is reading lips about the police people that want to be bad guys to Ethan.
After Ethan escapes, we shift to a wholesome-looking Russian family we haven't seen before. The scene is a nice little piece of drama about how the dad sees the Kremlin news and wants to get the family out of there, and very quickly that goes south and thugs have them all at gunpoint, it's nicely done
Ethan is being extracted by two new characters played by accomplished, Oscar-nominated actors Tom Wilkinson and Jeremy Renner… the conversation is dire and I don't want to type during it gahhh gah gah gah I am watching because holy shit this goes south too! TW informs Ethan that the DoD is going to frame him for blowing up the Kremlin and his only choice is to escape. He's telling him HOW to escape in a funny way, but they are attacked and it's visually very interesting and TW is headshot and they are in the water and it is such bad news for Ethan and his new colleague played by Mr. Renner, I probably typoed a lot during that because it was so hard to look away.
So Ethan is on the hook for the terrorist attack of the century and he's being chased by a little battalion of thugs who just shot that important spy boss, and he's in Russia. It is very not good for Ethan.
He's with JR and JR is playing a different character for him. He's a bookish analyst guy who feels very out of place in action-land.
We're learning about the main bad guy, Hendricks, who was the guy that screwed everything up in the Kremlin. He's a super-smart theoretical physicist or something who has big, well-thought-out ideas about destroying the world with nukes, and he took nuke codes from the Kremlin. So things are just really really hairy and it's effective storytelling is what I'm saying.
Also effective is that they met up with SP and PP on a neat secret train car thing that is well appointed with spy gear
And VERY VERY EFFECTIVE is what happens next, which is a series of establishing shots of Dubai which KILL ON MY TV. I am glad I have a 4K panel, kids. This begins what I recall as being an extended sequence of sweet-ass suspense. Ethan has to break into a server room by climbing the outside of the 130th floor of the Burj Khalifa using glove-gadget tech that will hopefully work. There is at least some actual Tom Cruise clinging to the side of that building. It's so cool looking. And to make matters worse, a dust storm approaches! Or should I say "to make matters even cooler looking". Yes I should. Please read that part.
Paula Patton's character seems underdeveloped so far, especially compared to her teammates Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner.
Jeez you guys, if you like suspenseful action scenes about barely surviving climbing a skyscraper this movie is for you.
1:05:34 - In the middle of a tense conversation we see that they were using the maskmaker but it wasn't working. They just don't want us to have mask fun in this movie. They hate mask fun. Why does Brad Bird hate mask fun.
Oh then this scene which is neat - bad guys are meeting with LS… but Ethan and JR are taking their place, and PP is taking LS's place for the real bad guys one floor down. The movie explains it better than me, but it is pretty exciting, the two meetings happening at the same time with opposite trickery.
Hah, SP does a sweet fake-hand trick to get the diamonds from the bad guys so he can get them to Ethan and JN, and JN is doing the thing where he uses the contact lens tech… gosh why are you even reading this, just watch the movie. I really like the tricksy espionage.
It all falls apart because LS spots the contact lens in JR's eye. The plot is moving along in a way that, I'm once again noticing, would normally require more half-assed-ness. It's just a solid spy plot. Which probably makes these notes more boring. Poor you.
LS dies by getting kicked out of the open window of the Burj Khalifa with a brewing sandstorm in the background! Neat looking!
And then a thing where Ethan is in a thick dust cloud and he's tracking the important paper thing with his tracker device, and it starts moving quickly at him and we realize just as it's too late that it's in a car that's gonna run him over! Then that mechanic gets used in a car chase in a dust storm, which we don't see very often outside a Mad Max movie, and that climaxes in a really cool looking collision, followed by the reveal that one of the nuclear code bad guys was Hendricks in a supermask. So we DO like mask fun after all! Except why do we care that it was Hendricks?
A scene where JR is confronted for maybe being a double-crosser has a beautifully choreographed gun-get-grabbity-grab thing that was probably super fun for the actors.
1:27:05 - JR tells a story that at first we think is that family we saw briefly almost scramming, but no, he's talking about Ethan, and what seems to be a story about Ethan's wife (Julia from the last movie) getting killed in Croatia, and Ethan killing six Serbians for revenge, and that's why he was in prison in the beginning? It's still a little mysterious and kind of complicated. It doesn't quite fit with what we think we know.
Dubai imagery is pretty. I have been to Dubai. I am standing by for your marriage proposals now.
I didn't really follow how we got to this point, but Ethan went for a walk and met with some underworld Dubai person and made a deal the ended up with a huge cache of spy gear and a private plane to India. I went to India like right after Dubai. I have my own car and a job kind of so you might need to calm your hormones at this point.
A probing exchange with PP establishes that indeed Ethan's story is that he killed the men who killed his wife. Doesn't really seem legit, though. There's more to the story, clearly.
One of the tech things they play with on the plane is the most magic-seeming one. It is a suit that looks like tight chain-mail, and it floats over a cart, like a magic carpet that you wear.
We're introduced to Brij Nath, whose name I had to look up so I could tell you how it is spelled. He has an access code that they need, which seems like they just kind of simplified the situation, and he's one of those only-kinda-bad bad guys that's really just a pawn, for our heroes as well as for these storytellers.
The wearable magic carpet gadget is fun and funny! SP has to remote control JR wearing the floaty-suit and JR is trying not to freak out too badly, and maybe on purpose it recalls the scene from the first movie where Tom Cruise hovers parallel to the floor.
Hendricks is now in a secret room in the place where they all are, and he has a bad-guy briefcase computer and orders some subordinates to do something with a virus, and I don't actually understand what's really happening but am I to believe that Ethan et al are thwarting literal nuclear terrorism here in Mumbai? Right here at this pleasant party at the palace of an only kinda-bad bad guy?
1:48:30 - Ha, the climax of the wearable magic carpet thing involves JR barely surviving by doing an acrobatic stunt that seems oddly intuitive and satisfying. You'll just have to watch the movie to know what I mean.
The spy-tech car they have is rad.
They fail to prevent the launch of a nuclear missile! We see it come out of the sub and start missiling toward its destination which we have learned is California! Hendricks mutters things about how that should get the ball rolling making world powers hate each other and nuke each other and may there be peace on Earth, he also, yes, says that.
A chase on foot has Ethan and Hendricks suddenly brawling on an exotically elegant robotic parking ramp. Platforms move around mechanically and transfer unmanned cars to different areas, and it is against that video gamey backdrop that Ethan and Hendricks struggle to get that sinister suitcase which is all bouncing around that environment. Unexpectedly, Ethan's hope of grabbing it is thwarted by Hendricks suicide-jumping down several stories! We see it! He definitely does that! Ethan drives a car off a thing to follow him, plummeting down hood-first, and the airbag saves him! He gets the briefcase and barely saves the day in time!
Again a denouement making it very clear that everything is really shockingly okay and tidied up. Even the thing with Ethan revenge-killing Serbians and the thing with his wife is cleaned way up, but with an elegance and sweetness that elevates this movie above the others. She's not dead after all, just fake-dead for her protection. And they're only where they are in Seattle so he can glimpse her lovingly across a marina.
So! I feel strongly that this is the best Mission: Impossible movie! It is an extraordinarily deftly-constructed spy thriller! It's got all the funnest types of things that are in the other movies, and other fun spy thrillers, but with so much less garbage! They did a great job and they should be proud.

Tumblr media
AO3 Link: here
Pairing: Lucien x Female MC
Part I of the “Forgive and Forget” Series. This is “Forgive”
Part II: here
Warnings: Contains plots from chapter 13 and 16 -> basically the plot of Lucien’s Rainy Night Date
Description: Lucien’s POV from “Rainy Night Date” + lovemaking
Word Count: 10,660 (oops)
Genre: Angst, Smut
Summary: “When the daylight comes, I'll have to go. But tonight I'm gonna hold you so close"
Author’s Note: I started playing this game back in March, missed out on this karma, and is very bitter/frustrated by that fact. I don’t think I’ve ever fallen so hard for a 2D man, but here I am. I wrote this fic because there weren’t enough discussion about this date, which I think showcases Lucien’s true feelings. Especially when he gives the paper crane back to the MC. My horny ass just decided to throw some lovemaking into this scene. Ending is inspired by the lyrics of Maroon 5′s “Daylight.” Every line that I took from the actual date/plot will have * in front of it. I hope you guys enjoy it. ALSO LUCIEN DESERVES ALL THE HAPPINESS IN THE WORLD. I SAID MY PIECE.
⊱ ──────ஓ๑♡๑ஓ ────── ⊰
Here I am staring at your perfection In my arms, so beautiful The sky is getting bright, the stars are burning out Somebody slow it down This is way too hard 'Cause I know, when the sun comes up I will leave, this is my last glance That will soon be memory
And when the daylight comes I'll have to go But tonight I'm gonna hold you so close 'Cause in the daylight we'll be on our own But tonight I need to hold you so close Ooh whoa, ooh whoa, ooh whoa Ooh whoa, ooh whoa, ooh whoa
I never wanted to stop Because I don't wanna start all over, start all over I was afraid of the dark But now it's all that I want, all that I want, all that I want
How did it come to this, Lucien asked himself as he pressed himself to the side of her building, watching as reporters rushed at her, like piranhas after the scent of blood.
*“Producer! What’s your answer on your program’s ex-consultant’s remarks at the press conference?” One shoved a mic into her face. Lucien winced, but held himself back from going to her rescue. His appearance would only make the situation worse.
*“We heard that you and Professor Lucien are not only co-workers, but also neighbors. Anything to share about him?” Another reporter jogged next to her.
“Yeah, aren’t you two neighbors? So you must be close!” The crowd clamored around her, and Lucien clenched his fists.
*“We heard that you two are inseparable. Could you please…” The reporter’s voice asked eagerly, and her eyes squeezed shut.
He watched as her lips pressed into thin, white lines. “I’m sorry, I’m just trying to get to work. Can you please stop asking me these questions?” She finally said softly, with an undercurrent of hurt, thinly veiled, but Lucien heard her all the same. The world seemed so dreary despite the colors, and Lucien knew it was because of her mood.
The poor security guards struggled, trying to clear a path for her so she can enter the building. Kiki and Anna appeared, extending a hand towards her, and pulled her to safety within the glass doors of her company. The world faded into shades of monochrome once more and it was then that Lucien exhaled a quiet sigh of relief.
How did it come to this indeed?
It was supposed to be a simple task, a mission he could’ve accomplished with a flick of a hand. It was supposed to be easy. She was incredibly innocent and quick to trust; all he had to do was show her a little bit of kindness. And yet, Lucien found himself bewitched by her, getting his eye sliced open to prove to Black Swan that he was still on their side. That had been nothing more than a mere inconvenience for him. And yet, when the grunts had attempted to capture her, he failed to accomplish that simple of a task and instead, had let her escape. Lucien recalled the look in her eyes as she bravely held the pen-the very one he had endearingly given to her-to her neck and crimson blood leaked from her neck. That look had destroyed him. Only she was capable of such a thing. If she asked for Lucien’s heart, Lucien would’ve willingly torn it out and present it to her on a silver platter. Except for the fact, Lucien’s lips flitted into a wry smirk, he had no heart. His heart had belonged to her the moment she showed him the true brilliance of the world, the indescribable colors that had changed and wreaked havoc on everything he once knew. And Lucien had willingly allowed her to do so. Black Swan may have saved his life, but this woman, this woman who had entered his life in an explosion of colors, this woman had saved his soul. And in that sense, she had saved his life as well.
Falling in love with her wasn’t supposed to be part of the plan. Those who knew him, knew him to be ruthless, emotionally detached, and ever-so-cold. But from the moment his world exploded into a vibrant myriad of colors, he was hooked. He had found himself wanting to see her every moment of the day, a message or call from her would allow a fond smile to spring up unbidden. Lucien remembered the poisonous jealousy he had felt when he attended one of her company dinners and her coworkers had asked her who was the most important person in her life. A little drunk and giving in to the green-eyed monster, he had confronted her only for her to tell him that it was him. The relief he had felt at that moment was ridiculous, like a tsunami of emotions flooding his entire system. He remembered gritting his teeth and clenching his fists at the sight of the officer who had shyly given her that ginkgo bracelet. He remembered the utter panic he felt when he found out she was in the hospital because of a stupid trick Black Swan had attempted to pull off and later, he remembered feeling the stifling frustration when the LFG CEO had barred anyone from seeing her. And Lucien remembered trying to focus on his research but hearing the idol singer’s bright voice float through the thin walls.
“Miss Chips! I brought the newest video game! Play with me!”
He had hoped she would refuse, but to his surprise, she had readily agreed. And he had tried so hard to ignore the sounds of happy entertainment before giving up and angrily leaving his apartment. That had been the moment he had realized that, that simple, oh-so-easy plan was not so easy after all.
How? How could it have happened this way?
When did he start feeling these irritating emotions that made his chest clench so painfully?
Was it when he took her to the New Light Library to help her with materials for the show and he had blurted out, *“Will you teach me how to love?”
Or was it when he had gifted her that gardenia and they had decided to take care of it together?
Or maybe it was when he had taken her to a firefly exhibition and she had defended the poor firefly struggling weakly to survive, saying that all life should be respected?
Was it when they went to the aquarium together and he had warned her, but she had refused?
Maybe it was when he had to go to Denmark, and she had followed him, getting sick in the process but had clung so desperately to him?
Was it because she had been the only one who had cared about him, about his birthday, and worried so excessively over his happiness?
Lucien had tried so hard to push her away, but every time she would come back, worrying when he got sick, calling when he didn’t respond to her messages. He had lived his entire life knowing only the cold shades of black and white. But with her, he was able to see the glorious pastels of a rainbow after a storm, the vibrant reds of the Canadian maple forest, the cerulean blue of the sea, the brilliant golden flashes of fireworks, and the warm orange flickering of the lotus lantern they had sent down the river together. She had been the one who had turned his birthday, which had been countless anniversaries that reminded him of the tragic events from his childhood, to something he actually wanted to look forward to every year.
He didn’t know the answers to these questions, but when Hades had tried to capture her for his foolish RESET plan on the day of his press conference, Lucien realized that for the first time in his life, he felt fear. Fear of losing her. Fear of her being in pain. Fear that someone saw the dazzling purity of hers and tried to use it for dark and polluted gains. For the first time in his life, Lucien had something to lose. Something so infinitely precious to him that it was more important than his own life. And yet, this woman had been hurt by his own hand.
Pain was not a foreign concept to Lucien. Being in Black Swan, it was readily available. He had utilized it upon his enemies, upon those who had cast doubt on him, and upon himself. But none of it could compare to the pain he had felt all those sleepless nights hearing the broken sobs of the woman he had hurt so deeply. For the first time, Lucien truly understood what a deadly weapon pain could be.
And now…
Lucien looked at the still clamoring crowd of reporters lurking around the entrance of her building and clenched his fists. Because of him, her life was upturned once more.
He had been keeping a close eye on her after he brought her from Hades’ dreamworld, fearing that Hades would discover the way out and go after her again. His hunches were right after discovering Hades’ minions lurking about her apartment community. He had disposed of them quietly, of course, but the reporters were a different story. Lucien knew she had been working late nights just to avoid the reporters.
Which was why Lucien was now sitting in his car, in the parking lot of her building, waiting for her to get off work.
Fool, a voice whispered inside his head, but he ignored it. He was currently the only one who could possibly protect her. As jealous as he had been with Gavin, Victor, and Kiro, he appreciated the fact that all three of them had protected her. But now, Gavin had gone somewhere, Victor’s whereabouts were unknown and couldn’t be reached, and he didn’t know what Helios was planning after abandoning his image as Kiro.
The dull gray lights suddenly morphed into a muted yellow and Lucien looked up. She had appeared at last.
He got out of the car silently and walked towards her. She checked her phone and let out an exhausted sigh, rotating her shoulders.
Show no emotion, Lucien reminded himself. He grabbed her arm and pushed her into his car before she even had a chance to react.
“AH!” She exclaimed in surprise, preparing herself to fight.
*“It’s me,” Lucien spoke softly to prevent her from struggling. She froze the moment she heard his voice and turned, wide-eyed, to look at him. Lucien forced himself to look straight ahead. “Fasten your seatbelt,” he commanded quietly, before starting the car.
She gritted her teeth, *“Why do I have to go with you? Where are you taking me?” She demanded.
Lucien clenched the steering wheel. Hearing her voice-albeit angry-reminded him that she was alive and breathing. And sitting next to him. *“To your place,” he answered her question passively, trying not to give light to the murky emotions that swirled within him.
She fell silent and he drove on. The way home never seemed so long, and the traffic lights were not helping, stopping them at every intersection. But Lucien was secretly glad; the longer he spent with her, the more content he felt. Even though she was still angry at him, Lucien cherished the time spent with her.
He could sense her eyes watching him, questions as clear as day on her face. When he couldn’t take the stare any longer, he met her gaze through the mirror. As if struck by a live wire, she immediately dropped her eyes. Lucien noticed how her fingers clenched white against the seatbelt and he gripped the steering wheel to prevent himself from doing something he shouldn’t (like grabbing her hand and smoothing out her tension). He hated himself for causing these reactions in her.
*“I came out to tell you not to go out for a while, unless you have to,” Lucien broke the silence quietly, his voice slightly hoarse. The reporters should stop bothering her after a few days.
Her eyes flitted to him in surprise, *“But I need to go to work! Don’t worry, I won’t tell the reporters anything,” she added hastily.
Silly girl, he mused silently, you misinterpret my intentions yet again.
*“Do you think I came all this way just because I was worried you might blab to the reporters?” Lucien asked aloud, pressing his lips together thinly.
She lowered her eyes, ashamed, and they fell in silence once more.
Nothing more than acquaintances, Lucien thought to himself bitterly. There used to never be awkward gaps of silence between them, but now silence permeated every possible space between them. She was only sitting next to him, but she felt oceans away. It was clear that she felt uncomfortable, with the way she was twisting her body away from him. And it was all his fault, Lucien supposed, getting stopped by a traffic light yet again. Her finding out who he was, however, was inevitable. And in that sense, Lucien thought that she should know earlier before she had completely given her heart to him. That way, she could still keep a bit of herself intact.
After stopping at the last traffic light before her apartment community, Lucien broke the silence once more, *“Anyway, don’t get caught up in any unnecessary danger,” he reminded her again.
*“You as well!” She piped up immediately and Lucien felt his heart clench.
Still worrying about me, my little fool. Worry about yourself first.
Instead, Lucien grated out a laugh, *“Who do you think can hurt me?
How ironic, Lucien sneered at himself, the only person who could ever hurt him was sitting right next to him.
They had finally reached the gate and Lucien rolled down his window so he could greet the security guard. *“Hello,” he said politely, smiling warmly.
The security guard’s eyes widened when he realized it was Lucien.  *“Professor Lucien, worked late today? It’s been a while since I saw you!”
*“Yes,” Lucien replied evenly, “I’m dropping her off at home.”
*“Haha, you are still so close!” The security guard teased, and Lucien saw her look away hurriedly, fingers clenching on her seatbelt again. Lucien nodded, still smiling as he drove away. His smile faded when they had reached the entrance of her apartment building.
They had arrived at last. It was time to say goodbye once again.
Lucien reminded her again without looking at her, *“Keep in mind everything I have told you tonight.”
She huffed at him, *“I know what I’m doing,” and opened the door in her haste.
Lucien reached over and she stiffened immediately. She tried to push him away, but Lucien held her wrists.
*“Let go of me!” She glared fiercely at him and Lucien’s chest tightened in response.
*“Are you that afraid of me?” Lucien whispered. She stopped struggling at those words and stilled. It was then that he realized belatedly that he had said his thoughts aloud. Lucien looked away, unfastened her seatbelt, and leaned away from her when he was done. *“You forgot to unfasten your seatbelt,” he informed her quietly, internally struggling to keep his emotions down.
*“…Thanks,” she said grudgingly and got out of the car. She took only two steps and turned around.
*Lucien rolled down the car window slowly, “What is it? Did you forget something?”
*He couldn’t read her expression as she shook her head. “You, not me,” she exhaled and continued. “All those things you left in my apartment; I’ve packed them up. Wait here, I’ll bring them down.”
*“Are they heavy?” Lucien managed to ask. This entire scene was funny as if they were going through a breakup, but Lucien didn’t laugh, couldn’t laugh.
*“No. I can manage by myself,” she replied curtly, placing heavy emphasis on “by myself.”
Lucien pressed his lips together and watched as she walked away, away from him, just like she did the day she found out who he really was. And then again on the day of the press conference.
Did my little butterfly already fly away?
He had no time to linger on his thoughts, however, as he soon noticed two men in black seemingly appear from darkness and look up in the direction of her balcony. He cursed under his breath. Hades. They were probably there to observe her movements and report them to Hades. He shouldn’t be seen by them, otherwise Black Swan will know of his betrayal. And she must not come out at this moment. Scowling, Lucien pulled out his phone.
*<Rest early. Just mail it to this address.>
After sending the message, he started his car and took note of how there were two additional men in black tactical gear near the entrance of her apartment. Hmm STF, he thought to himself. Interesting. He drove off, circling behind another apartment complex as to not draw attention to himself. It was late, she should rest anyway, given how exhausted she had looked when Lucien had picked her up. And she seemed to be well protected for now. He knew Hades’ men wouldn’t try anything with STF agents around. For now, it was safer for her that he left. And he needed to figure out how to deal with Hades.
Two days later, a package arrived for him, but he had no time to open it due to all the work he had. He sent her a simple, “Thanks,” but he had gotten no response from her. Lucien had checked up on her occasionally; but after a few days, as he had guessed, the reporters stopped bothering her as the city slowly dissolved into mild panic over how the virus had developed. His worry about her safety decreased when he had noticed that she had STF agents following her, but that didn’t extinguish the longing inside of his heart.
The days slowly morphed into weeks and Lucien had been quite busy. Hades had not made things easy for him, but Lucien didn’t mind the workload. Every step he made in his progress was a step towards her happiness, her safety.
After working straight for twelve hours, he stood up and stretched. On his way to the kitchen, he accidentally kicked the box she had sent up. He looked at the box for a moment before making the decision to open it. He peeled the tape that bound the box shut and the box revealed its contents. With growing despair, Lucien glanced at the variety of books and movies that he had lent the girl. Each title brought a special memory. The last things in the box were paper cranes strung up in long lines, cushioning the books and DVDs. He touched the cranes tenderly, smiling as he recalled the day she had taught him how to fold these cranes. He had pretended to be bad at the task, causing her to huff at him.
*"Seriously, are you pretending not to know how?” The girl frowned at him as she watched his fingers fumble with the piece of paper.
*"No one has ever taught me this before,” Lucien admitted sheepishly.
She straightened her shoulders proudly, *"Well, better late than never! This teacher has full confidence in your talent!”
Lucien smiled at her confidence. *"In that case, I will await your instructions.”
Under her careful tutelage, they had made many paper cranes that afternoon. *Lucien fondly unfolded each of the cranes carefully, remembering that she had written a wish inside one of the paper cranes. She had whispered it while writing it down and he had overheard it, pretending he didn’t.
It was a wish about them.
*Does that wish mean nothing to her anymore?
Lucien sighed and refolded the cranes. Perhaps he should be thinking like her, letting the past dwell in the past, he mused sadly. But despite his thoughts, he found himself hanging the strings of cranes up.
*The light outside the window shone down upon the cranes and the raindrops outlined the gray and dusty memory. The pouring rain couldn’t wet these cranes, but somehow, one of them had faint blots on its wing. He reached out and gently held it in his hands. It was the crane in which she had written her wish. Lucien swallowed, trying to keep the choking emotions from surfacing.
*“I wish Lucien and I forever…”
The rest of her wish was blurred by tearstains. But Lucien knew the rest. It was the same as his. Every single time she made a wish-be it on the candles of his birthday cake, or the glowing lantern, or this simple crane-all her wishes had aligned with those of Lucien’s.
Lucien caressed the crane, *when he suddenly saw a dazzling figure in a cream-colored dress in the midst of the gray rain. His eyes widened. She had appeared like a mirage, the manifestation of his thoughts and longings.
*Lucien frowned, Silly…How did you end up here?
Without a second thought, he *grabbed an umbrella by the door and hurried out into the pouring rain. The clattering rain drowned his accelerating heartbeat.
*Lub-dub, lub-dub...
So engrossed was she in her task, that she didn’t see Lucien approaching her. He held the umbrella over her, and she looked up in surprise.
*“Why have you come looking for me?” Lucien tried hard to quash the happiness in his voice. She didn’t respond and continued to stare wide-eyed at him. Lucien spoke up again, *“Why didn’t you call ahead?”
*“I…” her eyes skipped from his, *“I just want to return something, then I’ll be on my way,” she mumbled.
“What is it?” Lucien asked as he reached out to her to pull her closer under the umbrella. She shrank back, but slipped. Before he could even form thoughts, Lucien’s body reacted. He hurriedly grabbed her before she could fall and wrapped his arms around her. A sigh left his mouth that was lost in the rain as he felt her familiar warmth and smelled her comforting scent. She was safe.
In her panic, she tried to push him away, but Lucien gently took her wrists. They walked silently with the rain beating down on them. Lucien could feel her gaze on him once again. She raised her hand only to drop it back to her side. Lucien cast a glance at her, *“What is it?”
*“You’re getting wet from the rain,” she murmured as a dusty-rose colored her cheeks.
Lucien chuckled, and couldnt help teasing her, *“Someone else also got soaked.”
Her cheeks reddened further as she looked down at her feet. She seemed to be at an internal struggle with the way she kept gripping her purse. Her eyes kept scanning around, as if looking for an exit route.
Lucien pretended not to notice and led her gently to his front door. *“Didn’t you have something to return to me? You’re leaving already? Come in,” he invited.
Stay a little longer. Please, Lucien pleaded silently.
She hesitantly walked through the door and ruffled through her purse. *“I’ll just leave this here,” she said softly, producing a DVD and setting it gently on the counter.
Lucien glanced at the title and his heart clenched. It was a film he had recommended her, and she had promised to give him a film review.
*“Wait a moment,” he managed to say, stopping her before she could leave him again. Lucien picked the disc up and came closer to her, caging her between him and the door. He kept trying to find reasons to stay with her a bit longer, just like he had done so at the end of the press conference. But this time, Lucien decided to let himself be a bit selfish. *“You still owe me something, right?”
*“Wh-what?” She stammered nervously. He saw through her purpose. She had obviously wanted to deliver the disc and leave as fast as possible.
*“A movie review,” Lucien answered, holding the disc up.
*She lowered her head guiltily, but Lucien lifted her chin, searching her eyes.
*“Or does our big-time producer not even have time to watch a movie anymore?” he asked. She didn’t answer, but he saw through her anyway. Lucien’s lips curved into a tiny smile. “This is a good piece of work,” he coaxed gently.
*“But I don’t want to take it back anymore…” she mumbled, biting her lips. Lucien saw her scan the living room and her eyes landed on the paper cranes. A wave of sadness swept across her face and she closed her eyes.
*“You can finish watching it here,” Lucien offered.
*“ …I’m running late for the last subway,” she refuted weakly.
Lucien almost laughed, “I’ll bring you home when it’s over.” He knew she wanted to end everything between them, but couldn’t bring herself to do so. Lucien decided to be the bad guy once again to save her the trouble. *“Or, do you want to keep owing me this movie review?” It was easier for him to do the dirty work.
With no room left to argue, she nodded resignedly and Lucien’s heart soared triumphantly.
He handed her a towel for her to dry off and went to set up the movie. She sat down stiffly on the couch and Lucien sat by the window.
What are you doing? Lucien chided himself as he watched raindrops glide down the window. He could feel her eyes on him again. Breaking his gaze away from the window, he turned to look at her. *“It’s starting,” he reminded her gently when the opening credits ended. She hastily turned her attention toward the screen.
Lucien watched her. He had chosen this specific piece because it served as another warning: he was not who he said he was. Throughout all their time spent together, Lucien had given her countless warnings only for her to dismiss them and run back into Lucien’s arms. And if Lucien was being honest, he didn’t want to let her go either. The longer he spent with her, the further the line between Lucien and Ares blurred, until Lucien didn’t really know who he was either. But now, he had one purpose. To keep her safe. It didn’t matter if he was Lucien or Ares. Around her, he was simply a man wanting to protect the person most important to him.
After a while, she turned to look at him again and their eyes met. Flashes of sadness, surprise, and longing ran across her eyes. Silence filled the air, but it wasn’t uncomfortable or stifling like it had been last time.
Lucien paused the film. *“Is the movie not good?” He asked softly after a while, not wanting to break the pregnant pause.
She shook her head silently. Before she could answer, however, she sneezed suddenly.
*Lucien sighed and got up, bringing her tissues. He shrugged out of his coat to cover her small shoulders. “How do you still take such poor care of yourself…?” The words left his mouth, exasperated. Embarrassed, she shuffled in her seat. Lucien brought her a cup of hot tea and she inhaled the fragrance. Her lips touched the back of his hand as he tried to cover the mouth of the mug. Electricity ran from where her lips had touched his hand and left tingles up his entire arm. “Always in such a rush…” he said fondly. “It’s still hot, wait a bit before drinking it.” He was unable to keep the affection out of his voice.
She stiffened and Lucien knew she heard the tenderness of his words. He berated himself. “Why are you being gentle to me again?” She whispered brokenly, squeezing her eyes shut.
There was no going back now.
*“A very interesting question,” Lucien finally responded, “But, before answering you, I also want to clear something up.” He moved slowly until he was sitting next to her on the couch. Ignoring how she curled into herself as he approached, he asked the question he wanted to know from the very beginning. “Each time I push you away, why do you keep coming back to me?” Lucien felt the tiny flutter of hope within his chest.
Could it be?
She didn’t answer, but Lucien dared himself to hope. And for the first time, he felt he wanted to bare his soul to her.
*He leaned in closer to her when suddenly the paper cranes broke from the ceiling and landed around them. Slowly, he found the crane that contained her precious wish and pushed it into her hands. “That’s my answer,” he said finally. He let her see him for who he truly was for the first time. He continued, “But the process of achieving this takes time and patience.”
And there it was. His heart and soul and all the feelings it contained for the woman in his arms were all laid out in front of her.
There was a small gasp before she dissolved into tears.
*“Liar… You said you didn’t see it,” she accused him tearfully, hand holding onto the crane.
Lucien pulled her gently into his lap as he enveloped her in his arms, his heart finally feeling full after a long while. She clung to him just as tightly, her arms encircling his neck. “Silly… *Do I need to peek to know what you’re thinking?” He whispered against her hair.
*He pressed his lips against her neck, a silent promise of his answer to her question. He wanted to be selfish for once.
She tugged at his tie, lifting his head and she leaned in. “Kiss me properly, Lucien,” her soft breath brushed against his lips.
Lucien acquiesced. Their lips met, soft like the fluttering of a butterfly’s wings. He tasted the salt of her tears, but the sweet nectar of her lips overpowered everything. Lucien was hopelessly and irrevocably addicted.
They broke apart slowly, breaths still mingling. *Lucien held up his hands, just like he had when he accompanied her on her quest to find the truth. *“This represents two choices,” he began softly, gazing into her eyes.  “The right is to finish what you came here to do. To return the disc and leave, ending everything between us. The left is to pursue the path you want. To act upon these emotions between the two of us, but the path ahead is unknown. It could be dangerous. Even I don’t know what lies ahead.” He offered her a choice; whatever she decides, Lucien would be willing to go along with it.
*Without hesitation, she placed her hand in his left hand just like she had back then. She looked defiantly at him, eyes shining with confidence. “I choose this. I will not run away.”
*“And if this choice brings you harm and turns your life upside down? You’d still choose it?” Lucien repeated the words he had spoken to her long ago.
*“Yes, I most certainly do,” she answered, leaving no room for argument. A warmth in Lucien’s heart blossomed and swelled. This woman! She came into his life in a whirlwind of color and always acted differently from Lucien’s every expectations. Lucien had never met anyone like her, and he knew that he never will. She was the only one.
*Lucien laughed and closed his left hand, clasping their hands together tightly. “I understand your choice.”
For tonight, Lucien decided to let himself pretend that the woman in his arms belonged to him and only him. That there wasn’t anything or anyone against them. That she wasn’t in any danger. That there was no Black Swan, no plot to overturn the world, no viruses, no pain, and no fear. That they were the only ones in this world and the only thing that mattered. That they were simply a man and a woman in love. And Lucien decided it was time to put his thinking and all his worries on hold. It was time to finally give in to the emotions that had been slowly consuming him. For once, it was time to let his heart lead instead of his head.
He leaned in to taste her sweet lips again, licking at the seam. He was granted access as her fingers danced along his collar to pull him closer to her. “Lucien…” the sound of his name on her lips spurred him on, igniting a fire that blazed in his stomach. He traced the inside of her lip with his tongue and was rewarded with a soft moan.
Her fingers worked nimbly on his tie and deftly unbuttoned his shirt as he mapped the crevasses of her mouth with his tongue. She moved to straddle him and he ran his hands down her body until he reached her thighs, where he gripped them to wrap them around his waist. Cupping his chin, she pressed herself to him, lips moving desperately against his.
Just for tonight, Lucien promised himself as he reached up to her face, brushing her hair back softly, just for one night.
He ran his fingers through her hair as he assaulted her mouth, biting, sucking everywhere he could reach. She finished unbuttoning his shirt and slipped her hands inside. Lucien shuddered at her touch, her fingers tracing fire and leaving sparks across his chest. He pulled away to stare at her. “I think I’m at a disadvantage here,” he pretended to frown.
Her laughter was infectious as it rang through the air. “Then you should catch up,” she quipped, bright eyes sparkling with mirth, cheeks ablaze with pink. She looked so beautiful that Lucien had to literally bite down the urge to take, to claim.
“So I shall,” Lucien breathed, fingers playing with the hem of her blouse. Still staring at each other, she slowly raised her arms and Lucien tantalizingly dragged the fabric over her head.
Lucien’s breath caught. She was dressed in a white lace bra that cupped her breasts enchantingly. A pink flush crept up her body and Lucien’s gaze changed. She shyly averted her gaze when she noticed how dark Lucien’s pupils had become. Lucien reached for her, crashing his lips against hers. “Mm!” She gasped against his unrelenting mouth. Lucien picked her up and stood up, causing her to squeak out a surprised, “Lucien!”
“As much as I’d like to have you right here, I think I’d prefer to have you on my bed,” Lucien’s voice was low, hungry. “Also people might see and the idea of sharing you is not particularly appealing to me.” He walked purposefully towards his bedroom; her legs wrapped tightly around his waist. Despite his heated words, he took care to set her down gently on the bed, removing her skirt when he did so. He knelt on the bed to kiss her again, hands making quick work of her bra, and leaned back on his feet to look at her.
She swallowed hard when she met Lucien's heated gaze as he cupped her breasts. A small moan bubbled from her throat. Lucien watched, enraptured, as she closed her eyes and arched into his hands. His thumbs flicked over her nipples and he squeezed them gently, causing her to gasp softly. Beautiful. He was utterly captivated by this amazing woman in front of him. He bent down to suckle at her collarbone as he rolled her nipples between his thumbs and forefingers, nipping her skin when he felt her nipples harden. He ran a hand down her stomach and teased a finger along the band of her panties, smiling against her neck when he heard a sharp intake of breath. Pressing a soft kiss against her neck, he let his lips travel upward and lightly nipped at her ear.
“Mm,” she leaned into him, “Lucien…” she sighed his name, setting his heart and body aflame.
“Yes…” Lucien whispered as he leaned down to devour her lips, “Keep calling me, I want to hear you.” He kissed her deeply as he cupped one of her breasts, his other hand pressing her closer to him. He sucked at her collarbone and a scarlet rose blossomed beautifully.
“Lucien…” she moaned, arching as she pushed herself into Lucien’s warm hand. The sweet sound sent fire coursing through Lucien’s veins.
“Yes, beautiful girl…Just like that…” Lucien sighed as her hands pulled his neck down in an attempt to be closer to him. She leaned back on her elbows to look up at him and Lucien gazed at the sight from the foot of the bed, awed. Half-naked, hair mussed, lips swollen, she was truly a sight to behold.
They stared at each other, heated gazes meeting, acutely aware of what was going to happen, what they were about to do.
She bit on her lip as he shed his shirt and made his way back to her. They met in a fiery kiss with Lucien nipping at her lower lip. She moaned in his mouth and he swallowed her sound. Her sweet noises of pleasure were for him and him alone. He moved down to her neck, pressing open-mouthed kisses to the heated skin and felt her swallow.
He nipped at her collarbone and kissed a path through the valley of her breasts. He kept his gaze on her as her breath hitched as he slowly moved his hands up her waist, making her moan breathily. “Beautiful,” he whispered, his breath sending a cool puff of air across the trail of saliva he had created and she shivered. She held her breath as Lucien descended on her breast, his violet eyes never leaving her face. Lucien took her nipple into his mouth, making her moan sweetly. He swirled his tongue around the nub, making a satisfied hum when it instantly hardened at the stimulation. He brought his hand up to tend to her other breast. She moaned lowly, arching her back, her hands landing in Lucien’s hair. He bit down and felt her fingers tighten in his hair, earning her a hiss of pleasure from Lucien. “Beautiful,” he proclaimed, letting go of her breast. He trailed his tongue down to her stomach, to her belly button and pressed another soft kiss there. Lucien traveled further down, making her breath hitch in her throat.
She swallowed hard, her breath quickly becoming short and staggered. She had never felt like this before. The way Lucien looked at her and touched her, worshipped her. He made her feel beautiful, made her feel like a goddess. He never had been one to be shy with his affections. But this. Even though she could never guess what Lucien was thinking, she felt his love through his touches, his kisses.
Lucien traced the band of her panties with his tongue. He kissed the apex where her thighs met through the lace material of her panties and felt her shudder. Smiling, he closed his teeth on the band and very slowly, gently, he tugged. “Lift yourself for me,” he breathed, sending puffs of warm air across her skin, which raised goosebumps instantly. He hooked a finger around her panties and she obliged, raising her hips so that Lucien could take the material off. Tantalizingly slow, he dragged her panties down her hips, down her thighs, down her calves, and finally over her feet. Kneeling between her legs, Lucien gazed up at her. “Beautiful,” he voiced, wonder lacing his word. Her breathing quickened as she noticed how hungry Lucien's gaze was. Slowly, he leaned down and pressed his lips to her knee, kissing a trail up to her thigh. He let his tongue trace over the skin of her inner thigh, his hand sliding up to do the same to her other leg. She trembled, needing his touch, she was so aroused. Tentatively, he kissed closer to her slick heat. Meeting her gaze, he slowly licked a stripe over the most sensitive part of her. He watched as she arched off the bed with a breathy moan, hands grasping at the bedsheets.
“Lucien…”
“Delicious,” Lucien murmured, his mouth on her, sending a wave of pleasant vibrations. He committed all of her actions and reactions to memory. Lucien loved the way she reacted to the simplest of touches. He loved the way she moaned his name, perfect lips parting in breathless pants. He loved the way she trembled. He loved every little sound that came out of her mouth. Wanting more, he lapped gently at her heat.
“Lucien-“ his name on her lips was a shaky moan.
Smiling, he let his tongue trace lazy circles around her sensitive nub, making her whimper with pleasure. He didn’t tear his eyes from her face as he sucked on her folds, tongue picking up her sweet juices. Her breathing was starting to become short pants and Lucien slid his tongue inside her. She keened at the sensation, fingers tightening around the bedsheets. Lucien started to pick up his speed, licking more roughly, sucking harder.
“Lucien…. oh…. ah…mmm….” she cried as her eyes closed at the sensations, head lolling back. Every sound she made sent fiery waves through Lucien’s veins. He increased his speed, tongue going further, harder. She was close, Lucien could feel it in the way her legs tightened, her toes curled, and the way she clutched at the sheets. “Lucien-please…” She pleaded, and Lucien doubled his efforts. Her moans were getting louder as his name left her lips in breathless pants.
“It’s alright, beautiful girl. You can release,” Lucien coaxed, pressing his tongue on that sensitive little bud. “Let go.”
With a choked moan, she came apart, back arching and her thighs tightened around his head, toes curled in pleasure. Lucien admired the way her stomach muscles contracted and her breasts bouncing slightly and quickly committed the sight to memory. He didn’t want to miss a single detail. She was breathtaking in her pleasure, pleasure that Lucien had given her, and Lucien didn’t think he had seen a more beautiful sight. Without any hesitation, he slid two fingers into her and put his mouth back on her, making her whimper. Allowing her absolutely no time to come down from her high, he began working his fingers and mouth. Fingers curling inside of her to find her sweet spot and he grinned in triumph as she mewled loudly, muscles involuntarily clenching around his fingers. “Please…” the cracked whimper sent fire straight through Lucien’s body and he growled softly, increasing his efforts to make her fall apart again. “Luci-Lucien…I Oh!” Indiscernible sounds made their way out of her parted lips.
"Come for me once again, butterfly," Lucien whispered, fixated on her as she threw her head back, mouth open with silent cries. "Come for me," he coaxed, fingers moving more urgently as he worked his tongue.
"Lucien-I... I'm...Oh... Lucien please!"
"Yes, come for me..." Lucien urged, followed by a soft nip of her sensitive bud as he curled his fingers inside her. With a shuddering moan, his woman fell apart beautifully once again as Lucien watched in rapture. The undulations of her body as she trembled before him from the full force of her orgasm. So tantalizing. So beautiful. Lucien didn't think he had ever been this aroused before. He pressed his mouth against her heat, tasting her tangy nectar as she shuddered around him. Withdrawing his fingers from her, he leaned back onto his knees, and while gazing down at his beautiful girl, he slowly ran his tongue over his slick fingers. She swallowed hard as a bright pink flush painted her cheeks when he popped his fingers into his mouth, sucking hard to clean them. She gazed back at him, chest heaving as her breasts bounced lightly from her exertion, looking like the prettiest picture of perfection. Lucien felt a sense of pride in his beautiful masterpiece.
"Lucien..." she struggled to catch her breath as she weakly sat up. He leaned down and pressed a heated kiss against her parted lips. She moaned into his mouth when she tasted herself on his tongue.
“I’m not done with you just yet, butterfly,” he whispered, catching her as she collapsed against him.
“Then you better take your pants off,” she demanded.Laughing breathlessly, Lucien leaned back to unbuckle his belt. Slowly, he unzipped his pants, eyes never leaving her face. Her hands joined his as they removed his pants and underwear together. He kicked the garments off the bed and kneeled between her legs. Slowly, Lucien palmed himself, still maintaining eye contact. He was already hard from pleasuring her and so he stroked himself roughly. “Like what you see?” Lucien’s voice was hoarse.
She eyed him, “Very much so,” And with saying that, she licked her lips.
Lucien chuckled but it died in his throat when she tentatively reached for him. He groaned when she wrapped her hands around him. She stroked him gently and Lucien swallowed thickly, throwing his head back with a low moan. Her touch was electrifying, carrying tingling sensations all over his body. Lucien whispered her name, hips gently bucking into her warm hand when he couldn't help himself. Another moan made his head tilt back once more as she caressed his tip with a soft thumb, spreading the leaking moisture all over. Lucien closed his eyes and began to lose himself in the sensations of her warm hand. He felt her lips on his throat and he shuddered when she bit down on the skin, sucking hard to make a red mark.
“Mine,” she breathed, tongue lapping against the mark.
“Yours,” Lucien replied, gazing at her with such tenderness that she felt like crying. He leaned forward and pressed her into the sheets gently, his hands coming up to frame her face as he rested his weight on his elbows. “I belong to no one else but you.”
“Lucien…” she whispered his name, tears springing to her eyes, “I love you…” Her confession was hushed, but her words pierced Lucien’s heart as well as his soul, shattering the walls he wrought up to keep out the world.
Instead of replying, Lucien kissed her fervently, putting all his emotions into the kiss. Silly girl, he mused silently, why would you love a person like me?
But that was just the kind of person she was. Doing the unexpected, the unconventional. She abided by no rules except her own. It was the thing Lucien admired most about her. And he had promised himself this one night...
And for this one night, he allowed himself to love this woman, the way she deserved to be loved.
Kissing her deeply, Lucien ran his hand down the length of her body, caressing every inch of her until he reached her dripping arousal. Dripping with need for him. And only him. That thought filled Lucien with wholly satisfaction. That he is the only one to see her, touch her, hear her, taste her like this. He slipped his fingers within her wet folds as she moaned into his mouth.
“Lucien…” she choked out his name in a breathy whine.
“What is it, butterfly? Tell me, what is it that you want?” Lucien’s voice was rough. He increased his speed and sucked at her neck.
“You…I want…you,” she moaned breathlessly as her thighs clamped around his hand.
Well, if it’s what she wants… Lucien thought he ought to deliver.
He slowly extricated his fingers from her, making her whine shamelessly at the loss of sensation. “Just a minute, butterfly,” he said hoarsely as he reached for the drawer.
Her arm came up to stop him. “No…” she panted, “I want…I need to feel you.”
The outburst made Lucien pause, his eyes widened in surprise.
She tugged at his arms, “Please, Lucien…I need you,” she implored. The way she looked at that moment should be illegal, Lucien thought to himself. Her hair was messy, her eyes were blazing with want. And Lucien would be the bad guy if he didn’t give her what she wanted.
He propped himself back onto his elbow and stroked himself urgently with his other hand. As he aligned herself at her entrance, he searched her eyes. “Are you sure?” His voice was strained, but he had to make sure she was absolutely sure about this, that it was her decision.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him to her. “Absolutely,” she breathed against his lips before pushing her hips to meet his. In a swift movement, Lucien entered her. For a moment, it felt like he was home. She moaned, arching to meet him as their lips crashed.
Lucien pulled back and thrust into her, trying to find the spot that had made her unravel so beautifully. She wrapped her legs around his waist, pushing him in deeper. Lucien growled, a low sound in his chest, as he adjusted his hips and was rewarded with the sweetest sound he had ever heard.
“Lucien!” She whimpered, rocking her hips to meet his thrusts, arms clenched tight around his neck.
“Keep calling me,” Lucien panted, speed increasing as their passion built. “I need to hear you.”
“Lucien…Lucien…” His name was a chant on her lips like it was the only thing she knew how to say. She was so tight and so perfect around Lucien as if made for him and him alone. Doubling his effort, Lucien pressed his thumb against her sensitive bud. “Lucien!” Her nails dug into his back and Lucien relished in the sweet pain, thrusting harder. He knew she was close with the way her thighs clamped around his waist and the way her walls tightened around him.
“Come for me,” Lucien commanded breathlessly, thrusting relentlessly into her, his thumb circling her nub. “Come for me, beautiful girl, I want to see you undone.”
One more thrust, and she exploded as waves of pleasure washed over. She tightened around Lucien and a choked gasp fell from his lips. Breathless and quivering with pleasure, she sank into the mattress, still clinging tightly to Lucien.
Lucien knew that in that moment, if the world ended right then and there, he wouldn’t have cared. He paused slightly to press his forehead against hers before continuing to thrust into her, his movements getting more urgent. She shakily cupped his face as she slotted her lips against his, silently urging him to chase his own pleasure. Lucien didn’t need any more heeding as his hips jerked frantically. His brows knit in concentration and his lips parted with effort. Lucien grunted as he felt her tightening around him once again.
“Lucien…Lucien…” she blabbered against his lips, entirely incomprehensible.
Lucien swallowed her every pant, every moan as he reached between her legs once more. He wanted to see her in the throes of passion as he came.
“I love you,” she panted, “I love you.”
It was those words that made Lucien utterly fall apart. He tensed as his hips stuttered to a stop, spilling heat within her. His body shuddered from pure bliss as he slumped into her arms, breathing harshly against her lips. Stars erupted behind his closed eyes, the most brilliant and vibrant flashes of gold danced in his vision. His actions coaxed another release for her as she climaxed around him. The feeling was indescribable, and Lucien thought that if he were to leave this world, he'd absolutely have no regrets.
Trembling, she fell back against the bed, pulling Lucien down with her. He took great care not to crush her and laid down on his side, his arms encircling her waist. Their pants mingling together until they weren't sure who was exhaling and who was inhaling. They gazed at each other, still breathless, still connected. He could hear both of their hearts beating in time, synchronized thudding to a beat that was unique to only them. Lucien had never felt more complete. He reached out to brush a strand of hair from her eyes.
“Lucien, I love you,” she breathed, staring deep into Lucien’s eyes.
He leaned in to kiss her, lips conveying the words of his heart, the words he was unable to speak out.
I love you too, my little butterfly.
Moments passed, the two of them were content to lay in each other’s arms. After a little while, Lucien gently extracted himself from her, prompting a soft whine. He pressed a finger against her lips, shushing her, “Let me clean you up. I’ll be right back,” he promised.
True to his word, he came back with a towel which he used to wipe her down carefully. She opened her arms invitingly when he was done, and he obediently fell back into her arms. Shifting slightly, he maneuvered them so that she was laying on his chest and he pulled the blankets around them.
“Are you tired?” He asked gently as he stroked her hair.
She shook her head, “Can we talk?” she asked shyly, voice muffled by his chest.
Lucien smiled, “About what?”
She shuffled so she was looking into his eyes. “I…want to know…about Black Swan,” she said hesitantly. “About how and why you joined. And…about Ares…”
Lucien simply nodded, unsurprised. He knew this conversation would come up sooner or later. “Are you sure you want to have this conversation now? It’s not exactly a happy story.”
“I want to know,” she bit her lip gently.
“Alright,” Lucien agreed without hesitation, “Where would you like to start?”
Her eyes widened in surprise, obviously not expecting Lucien to agree so easily. “How about…how you came to join Black Swan?”
Lucien’s lips pursed in thought, “Well, there’s not much to it,” he finally said. “A car accident happened when I was seven. It took away my parents and left me in critical condition. People from Black Swan found me, saved my life, and I’ve been with them ever since.”
She digested this information, “And…Ares?” she hesitantly said the name.
“Ares is the name I use within the organization,” Lucien told her gently, “I’m sure that you’ve noticed by now, that we prefer Greek god names.”
“But…” she dragged out the word slowly, “You seem like two different people when you’re…Ares and when you’re Lucien.”
Lucien sighed, “Ares is me. Lucien is also me. Ares and Lucien are one and the same.” There was a bitter tone in his voice.
She was silent for a few moments. “Maybe that’s true,” she murmured, “But I know you would never hurt me. And that includes Ares.” The last part was full of confidence.
Silly girl, Lucien sighed internally, “I did…certain things when I was Ares…Because of that, I have a certain image within Black Swan,” he started haltingly. She nodded like she understood. “I approached you as Ares pretending to be your version of the ‘Lucien’ that you know. I needed to get close to you so I could accomplish my mission. But…I failed.”
“How?” She asked him quietly.
Lucien chuckled, “What do you think? It’s all because of you, silly girl. I’m supposed to bring you to Black Swan, and I’ve had all these opportunities to do so. And yet, here you are.”
“Did you…get hurt?”
“Can you please worry about yourself for once?” Lucien tweaked her nose and sighed.
She wrinkled her nose, “I don’t need to worry about myself because I have you protecting me,” she smiled. “You said I’m an asset to you.”
“Are you always this trusting?” Lucien asked, exasperated.
*“You told me you would ensure my safety. And that you don’t engage in worthless endeavors. I thought that was because I am the Queen. But now like you said, I haven’t been taken to Black Swan, so what is it that you’re protecting me from? Why would you protect me from Black Swan when you’re a member of Black Swan?” She raised her chin, challenging him.
She had seen right through him. Lucien’s lips curved into a small smile.
His fingers traced gentle circles on her waist. “I think you already know the answer to that,” he murmured. “You should know…I never intended to lie to you, but my intentions were never good to begin with,” the last part of his sentence was a little quieter, as if Lucien were talking to himself.
“What changed?” She asked curiously.
Lucien heaved a self-deprecating sigh, “You,” he said, simple and straightforward. She looked at him, confused. Lucien cradled her face gently and smiled, “You did. You changed everything. You turned all of my plans inside out and my world upside down.”
Her brow furrowed, “Me? What do you mean?”
“You brought color into my world,” Lucien said simply, leaving her to wonder what he meant by those words. Before she could respond, he continued, “*You taught me all the beautiful things, like folding a paper crane. You showed me how beautiful a rainbow after a storm could be. *I used to not fear death, but I started fearing it only after I met you. And because of you, I want to live.”
Her eyes turned watery, “Lucien…”
“What?” he sighed, brushing his thumbs on her cheeks, “Why are you crying, silly girl? It’s all true.”
She sniffled, “I’m not crying,” she said hastily.
“Alright,” Lucien chuckled, pulling her closer and placing a chaste kiss on her lips. “You should sleep, it’s late.”
She pulled back to gaze into his eyes. “You’re going to hypnotize me, aren’t you?” Seeing his startled expression, she smiled wryly, “You were never this open with me before, something must be up.”
“Do you regret it? Your decision?” Lucien asked instead.
“Of course not,” she replied firmly, “I’m just glad that precious memories like these exist. And you can protect these precious and happy memories for us.”
“I know you made your choice,” Lucien started hesitantly but she shook her head at him.
“Lucien, I made my choice, but you must have your reasons. I’m choosing to believe that your reasons must have something to do with protecting me. And if it’s because of that, then I’ll allow you to do so. I respect your decision and your choices, just like you did with mine. And right now, I’m happy just to be able to be in your arms like this,” she gazed deeply into his violet eyes. “Being able to create these memories with you is enough for me. I shouldn’t be any more greedy and wish that I can cling onto these memories as well.”
Lucien’s breath caught in his throat. “Do you trust me?” His voice was low, full of unspoken emotion.
She nodded without hesitation. “I do. And I trust that you will come back to me.”
Lucien swallowed hard. “Then I will cherish and protect these beautiful memories,” he vowed hoarsely.
She beamed, and it was still the single-most bright and dazzling thing Lucien had ever seen. “Good.”
“Aren’t you afraid of me? And…the dark part of me?” Lucien finally voiced his worries.
“Lucien,” she smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck, “Just like you said, Ares is you. But it is only a part of you. Ares is not completely Lucien, nor is Lucien completely Ares. Everyone has a dark side, why should you be any different? I love and accept all of you, including Ares. I’m not afraid because of that. We may have different viewpoints and we might disagree with one another, but I’m not afraid of you. I was afraid, however, that all these memories we created together meant nothing to you. That they were all just part of the plan. I was afraid that your feelings weren't real. But now, I know how you truly feel about me and my fears couldn't be further from the truth. Your dark side is only a small part of you, but I love the whole you. As long as you’re Lucien or the part that is ‘Lucien’ exists, I will love you. And you already said earlier,” she touched the mark she had made earlier on his neck. “You’re mine.”
“Yours,” Lucien promised, voice thick with raw emotion. His heart swelled. He didn’t think he could love this woman any more than he already did, but she had proven him wrong. Again.
She smiled with satisfaction and leaned in, “I love you, Lucien,” she breathed across Lucien's lips, setting Lucien’s heart aflame.
He was going to do everything in his power to keep her safe. To return to her. So that the next time, they meet, they can love each other openly without fear. And that was a promise Lucien fully intended to keep.
“Wait for me,” he murmured, pressing his forehead against hers.
“I will,” she replied steadily.
There was a sigh of relief and Lucien tucked her under his chin, holding her close. “Sleep,” he commanded quietly, “It’s late.” He pressed his lips tenderly against her forehead, thumbs rubbing soothing circles into her back.
It was amazing how comfortable Lucien felt with her body against his, lying in his arms. He had not been this relaxed in a long time. She made him feel whole, as if she completed the missing part of his heart.
And maybe you are, Lucien thought to himself, smiling as he occasionally pressed kisses to her temple, the person at the end of my red string. My little butterfly.
When she had finally fallen asleep, Lucien looked at the slowly brightening sky. His heart tightened. He wanted to freeze this moment forever. The pink-tinged sky didn’t grant his request and instead brilliant hues of orange and red started spreading across the sky, as if taunting him. He didn’t have long before they had to part. Slowly, Lucien eased away from the sleeping girl. He put on the clothes strewn around his room and tenderly dressed her, taking great care not to wake her. He caressed the light purple mark on her collarbone and smiled sadly. It was time. He picked up the girl gently. A bright white light flashed around the room.
They reappeared inside the girl’s apartment. Lucien carried the sleeping figure to her room and tucked her in. He then took out his phone and sent a message to her phone.
<Thank you for returning my disc to me. We had a bit of wine while you watched the movie so you can give me that film review. You got drunk and I brought you home. *Next time do not come to see me without notice. Take care of yourself. -Lucien>
He leaned forward and brushed her bangs back softly to press a soft kiss against her forehead.
“I promise you,” he whispered, “I promise we’ll go fly a kite when spring comes. I promise to celebrate all my birthdays with you. I promise to ensure your safety. I promise I will always come back to you. I promise that we’ll be together. I promise that I belong to you, and to only you.” He repeated all the promises he made her. “Wait for me, butterfly.” He hooked their pinkies together and kissed their linked fingers softly. “I promise.”
He then placed a tender, final kiss against her lips and breathed out the words that had been hidden under his heart for so long. “I love you.”
Lucien stood up and walked to the door silently, before turning around to take one last look at her. She was sleeping soundly. The gentle sun of the early morning cast a soft pink over her, a beautiful but cruel reminder that told Lucien he was out of time. The night he had promised himself had come to an end and now it was morning. It was time for him to go.
He had set a glass of water, along with two painkillers on her bedside table. There was also a paper crane standing guard. It was the one with her wish.
*“I wish Lucien and I forever…”
Underneath her wish, Lucien had added a set of words. Another promise.
*“For every forever that you wished for, I’ll be there.”
