could you write some general hcs about mick dating a black!reader and some of the things that would come with that? ex: black culture, soul food, hair care, etc. :))
MICK DATING A BLACK GIRL | MS47
Warnings: mentions of food; quick mention of someone not listening to the reader, but other than that it's just tooth-rotting fluff.
A/n: Just a quick reminder that there are many shades, experiences, and backgrounds when it comes to black people and our culture, what I am writing now (and usually do in my other works) does not resume all of us, but rather brings a piece of it to the table. <3
I tried to be a bit general in some topics, but let me know if you missed something, if there's a specific scenario you wanted, or even just talk a bit more about the scenario!
Tumblr media
He's obsessed with how many hairstyles you can do in a matter of weeks. Going from braids to afro to twists and then to Bantu knots and Mick just freaking loves all of them and makes sure to let you know that;
Will probably get you an infinity of headwraps because you love them and he loves to see you with them;
He knows you usually hate when people touch your hair, that's why he MELTS when you ask him to wash it and detangle it for you because your arms are hurting;
The most attentive learner ever, you can't change my mind! When you ask him to wash your hair and is ready to explain all the details he will know more than half of the process because he loves to watch you, the other half he doesn't know he's all in to learn;
He strikes me as the eager type, so he will be eager to learn everything, try everything, and do everything you tell him to: this goes from music and places to food;
THE FOOD!!!!! DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON THE FOOD!
Nothing is too spicy, everything tastes perfect and he will most likely ask for a second serve; You will find it funny how his face flushes, but he keeps going because "Omg, babe, what did you say this has again?";
I think Mick will most likely start inserting himself more into black topics, so he will read more books about cultural appropriation, systemic racism, and so on, all without bothering you. He's a big guy, he will do his own research, and once the topic is on the table and he shares something he read or noticed, it brings the biggest smile to your face;
Will immediately shut up and listen when you start to share an experience or something, and will make sure people do the same. Ain't nobody gonna try and make your voice smaller in front of him, they will be silent and they will listen.
WILL BUY A SET OF SATIN PILLOWCASES AND OTHER SMALL THINGS YOU NEED TO KEEP AT HIS HOUSE!!!!! Let's say it's the first time he's staying over, and he's attentively watching you do your night routine, then he notices the pillowcases are satin and softer. You explain it's because of your curls/braids, and then one day when you need to sleep at his house because it's late or something, his bed has two sets of pillows with satin cases, your shea butter, the lip balm you always use, and even a set of brush combs;
Will understand that he can try, but he won't ever grasp how it is to be in your skin and experience what you do, so it's just comforting to come home to him after a stressful day knowing that he won't judge or ask questions about your feelings. They are valid, and Mick won't ever make you feel otherwise;
He will make sure to remind you every day how good and beautiful life is. Mick will give you space to be soft and vulnerable and will give you lots of love because "you can't ever forget you're worthy of all the love and softness in the world".

"Small" checklist of things I want in Dragon Age 4:
Better hairstyles is obvious
Better looking armour is also obvious. Give me more variety other than "shitty trench coat a school shooter would wear"
A Varric romance. If this is going to be the last game he appears I do not see why you can't throw the dwarf lovers a bone Bioware
Combat similar to Dragon Age 2. I prefer button mashing and getting to whack enemies with my staff than holding trigger while a boring animation plays.
Put Kieran in the plot, he has so much potential. Or at least some kind of revisit to Flemeth taking in the Archdemon soul or what it means that Solas may have that very soul too. Just something with the Archdemon we fought in DAO.
Let us wear Antivan Crow armour.
Please pay homage to the background we pick in character creation. I really don't want another instance of Lavellan suddenly going brain dead when visiting and ancient elven ruin and suddenly having amnesia about their culture and history. Make the world react to our race. Make characters make comments about our class. If our elven protagonist goes to an alienage, don't have them be utterly oblivious to the squalor most elves live in. Because they would be AWARE.
An update from our Warden. I don't really expect the warden to make an appearance because that is insanely tricky. But another letter, or a character updating us on where they are at. Like say, if Zevran makes an appearance in da4 and he was romanced, have him explain if the Warden has gotten any closer to curing the Taint.
Piercing options in the character creation.
A resolution on Anders.
Honestly you know what would be sick but also unlikely but I'm gonna put it here anyway NAVAL EXPLORATION AND COMBAT. I see some concept art featuring what looks like underwater exploration and it reminded me of Black Flag. And if Isabela is back, then it can be her ship we explore by.
More demonisation of the Chantry. Inquisition, as much as I do like that game, leaves such a sour taste in my mouth over the attitude towards the Chantry. It is a powerhouse of abuse and hatred. an instigator of genocide and cultural appropriation and for it to be treated like a sick puppy that just needs to go to the vet is terrible. Going to Tevinter, somewhere that just disregards the Chantry, should offer an environment where we can finally explore how bad the chantry is.
Blood magic specialisation and more exploration towards its positive uses.
Antivan Crow origin.
Divinity Original 2 mechanic where magic and bombs can inflict elements onto the environment. So like, if you make it rain and then cast an ice based power. The puddles will turn to ice and make enemies slip. Spicing up combat.
Also divinity original sin 2 mechanic where you can romance anyone because your idea of attractive might not be same as your player's. because Fane was the best romance and you nearly skipped out on Solas being an option so....can't really trust you to decide who we can and can't romance.
For Dwarven players. Make the camera cut half their face off its so funny.
Speaking of dwarven players please try and work with propertions. Even if that's making new animations for love interests to bend down or pick up their dwarven lover during kiss scenes. Believe me the game will look better for it and your fans will appreciate it when their small dwarf doesn't suddenly GROW.
Also, more romance scenes in general? Idk it feels like such a drag when you wanna romance a character but across 40+ hours of gameplay you only have 3 romantic cutscenes.
More personality. The Inquisitior was so wooden and I would love a system like the blue, purple, red dialogue wheel to make a come back because as simple as it was IT WORKED. Hawke felt alive especially purple. And have companions COMMENT on your disposition. Have serious characters call you an arsehole or hide their smiles when your character is being snarky.

I NEED YOUR HELP
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hii there :)
so, I wanted to talk about something first there's a mini storytime..
basically when I was in middle school kinda during 8th and 9th grade, I kinda fell in love with this guy let's call him j.
Everything was good with J we were friends so yeah he was basically my crush but you know I don't think this guy was only a crush because thinking back I was in love, literally.
Now I grew up I'm in 11th grade and thinking back I basically recall all the good things that were going on between us, he was caring, funny, nice, kind, I was very insicure about my ethnicity (I'm black I was in my I hate being black phase smh) but he was telling me how I shouldn't be, how being black isn't a bad thing and he was very interested I'm my African background and culture, I don't know maybe he was just being nice and from a middle school student I thought that it was only a phase that everyone go through.
Now I'm almost 16 and to my knowledge I think I WAS IN LOVE.
END OF STORY TIME
Now, I'm almost 16 and kinda found my self thinking about him AGAIN but I tried to remove him from my mind ( if that makes sense), I was actually doing a great job until I MET HIM AGAIN yesterday after like... 3 years maybe? We greeted each other (pretty much all the things you do when you meet an old time friend) .... Yes I like him again you know from middle school to highschool there's time for glow up and he had a glow up he became more handsome like, more than before.
So I know y'all are probably asking yourselves why I wrote all of that let me tell you.
I was thinking that maybe I could get him back if that makes sense but as a friend, just communicate with him as friend and then just go with the flow whatever happens happens.
The problem here is that I don't know how I want him to text me first but I know that he doesn't follow any of my social media or has my number so basically he can't reach me BUT I trust the law of attraction and assumption, the thing is I don't know if I should start scripting or visualizing or the different methods
so yeah this is my problem and I need your help
If y’all have any questions because maybe i didn’t explain myself properly don’t hesitate and ask me in the comments.
Have a great day or night cutieess <33, byee

Same crowd that's crying about JK rowling (who is indeed a bigotted piece of shit) and saying to boycott a product because she owns the IP and if you don't you're a bigot and should be as prosperous as they are otherwise you're beneath them;
Haven't said a fuckin' word about Minecraft. Not one. I straight up do not even see the point in pointing out what is what, if they're so damn determined, why not look at Literally the Obvious?
But okay, stick with me because I change my dipshit mind about explaining: So, the creator of Minceraft, Notch, aka Hatsune Miku, is about has bigotted as it gets, probably as bad as JK Rowling honestly. But what the community did was way smarter than this dipshittery.
Boycotts don't work when it comes to...well anything really, but all ya had to do was erase identity and legacy. Replace more and more discussion with nonsense.
Like, people have to ask who tf Hatsune Miku is, and people will sometimes just leave them with "The creator of Minecraft" it's not much, but notice it doesn't increase sales by advertising the problematic person?
It's the same with school shooters, and all republican's who speak, just stop spreading their names and shit on the ideas. Take the faces, change the identity, remove the mask, show the face, the real one people can't ignore due to title.
As for the fuckery in Minecraft, still in Minecraft, and Microsoft has turned a blind eye towards, is genuinely so blatant, that...It might be culturally changing for the better?
We're so far removed from racist charicatures of old, shitty people have yet to really come up with much new, just treading old ground. I can definitely tell you I had no idea most things were straight up from racist backgrounds, but I found a level of humor in it due to the disguisement.
Here's what I honestly think, and you should consider. For me, I straight up am a sheltered manboy, I just am. I'm innocent to a fault. So most of the racism of various things went over my head growing up. I mean, I honestly dunno if I can say the word, but the funniest possible insult, just...in general, is the hard R with Bean. Dead serious, it is, I didn't know. Because...wh- why...
Now of course, let's just not. Okay? Just drop the word. But, stick with me here, you know anti-semetic charicatures? Big nose, greedy, the that.
Tumblr media
You connecting dots on the tired meme about Villager's being a racist charicature? Stick with me here, do you think this dude was thinking of a racist charicature, or a funny gamer haha? It's the latter, no shit.
But... Maybe with how recent all the "fucking holy fuck why the fuck" of america's racially fucking terrible history, and progress being semi forward from then, maybe this sorta thing just needs to be accepted as growth for sheltered idiots?
Of course I'm not saying accept the blatantly anti-semetic and racist charicatures that Minecraft has because Hatsune Miku is a fuckshiddytiddy, but to accept that it came from hate, but the community took it and made it it's own thing. Kids, you and me, this goi and that gorl, the villager is just a dude who's bad at economics and has a big blocky rectangle for a nose that semi resembles squidward.
There's just no animosity or hate, and letting fuckwads take things and make them hate symbols is simply wrong and literally the worst thing you can do.
This ain't bout the Nward nor the Squidward. It's about the Villager being able to contend with a racist charicature in a positive and non-cunt way. It's about replacing hate with, albeit mostly through ignorance, an icon unrelated.
If you went up to today's youth and said "The villager is a anti-semetic charicature" they'd honestly think you're meming, because they don't see it. They can see the resemblance, and they can see Miku's tweets, but they won't change their mine, crafts kids these days are too ignorant of the hate that spawned such things.
Unless they watch Andy TaTer the boy in rome. In which case, again, don't let them take away. It only benefits them when you let them own more. Anything.

do any of y’all remember fotolog. or more accurately Latine Fotolog and the entire culture surrounding it
like having at least 20 repeated vowels in your username because if you didn’t you were Nothing. making stupid puns using your location. the fact that you needed a premium account to comment on posts with more than... 100 comments i think? or 50? so there were people who constantly refreshed the pages of their favorite Fotolog Celebrities so they could comment without a premium account, because comments sections could get full in like... a couple minutes if you were popular enough. and there was SO much hostility about that ghdghkgsd
and yes. fotolog celebrities were a thing. which is really funny in retrospect because in spite of literally EVERYTHING, being popular on fucking FOTOLOG was still more profitable/meaningful that being popular on tumblr, which has a lot more users than fotolog did
this is a super specific niche bullshit post but let me live i’m having a moment. ?) ahre

If you're still taking the fictional asks, how about Star Trek (I know you occasionally talk about TNG, but would be curious about any of the rest as well)?
Star Trek: I love how tactile everything about the spaceship is--all the very sensible '60s knobs and switches. I like the over-the-top sense of adventure. I love the Tribble episode (which is one of the few full episodes I've seen, and I've seen it several times because it always seemed to be on TV).
Next Generation: Data! Oddly enough, the machine is the most interesting person on the crew. His fascination with humanity and struggle to connect with them, his innocence and wisdom, his love of his cat and Holmes stories--I care about him so much. I've finally seen enough episodes to appreciate the other characters, but back I was struggling to connect to their bland competence, Data was what kept me coming back, and he's always going to be one of my favorite characters of all time.
Other things to appreciate include: Picard's captaining and speech-making skills; the incredibly relaxing background hum of the spaceship; the occasional appearance of Q, the holodeck (I know all the cliches of the holodeck stories can be contrived, but I'm obsessed with the possibilities it provides for storytelling), the Picard vineyard, whoever finally decided to give Troi a real uniform, the astonishingly well-formatted structure of the finale. And ever since I saw I, Borg, I think about it constantly.
DS9: I've seen, like, an episode and a half of this show. (One was the Tribbles crossover event. Very well done). But I also saw a bit of the episode where it crossed over with TNG, and Bashir + Data was a friendship dynamic that I never knew I needed.
Voyager: Janeway. For reasons that I can't explain, I just like her. Possibly because she reminds me of Katherine Hepburn, who I also instinctively like for unknown reasons. (This is so funny to me, because whenever I mention Voyager to my dad, who was a ST fan when these were actually airing, the first thing he always says is that he could never get into this show because he didn't like Janeway. The gender divide, perhaps?) She's just a fun captain to watch.
This crew also has more races and species and genders involved among the main crew, and even if it's not all handled well, it provided a nice change of pace from the rather samey-feeling TNG crew.
Enterprise: I've definitely only seen an episode and a half of this show, so I can't say much. But I like the more rough-and-tumble frontier atmosphere--these people don't know what they're doing, and they're just trying their best. I like that they don't have all the Star Trek tech, so they have to do things like have a linguist to help with translation issues. And one of the episodes I've seen was the one where Trip and T'Pol go to Vulcan, and I loved the gentler exploration of dealing with domestic life in an alien culture.

any tips on how to improve writing skills?
The number one advice I would give is to practice. Your writing can't get any better over night, even if someone gives you tips. And you can't expect to see results immediately. Writing is influenced by so many factors. When I started writing film reviews at the age of 19, I constantly told myself that I would never get better, that I could never write as some critics that I admire because each of them had a particular style and I used to think it's impossible for me to reach such a level. Of course it was incredibly dumb on my part to think that way because I compared myself to people who had more than 10-15 years of experience or more. It's funny to see how naive we can be when we're only just starting in life. But I kept going, asked for feedback, which is really helpful. Constructive criticism is key, even when your entire piece looks like the Red Sea and you think you should throw it away in the trash can. I say this because gradually you realize the common mistakes you make, you can redo your text according to the commentaries you received and slowly, but gradually you develop your language, the text form that works better for you, some key phrases that help you express your idea in the best way possible.
As for actual tips:
You need a structure before you start writing. You need to know from the beginning exactly what you want to say and then you fill it in.
Write an introduction in which you state what is your purpose and what are you going to expand on the next paragraphs. Also, you can make it catchy in order to grab your reader's attention.
If your text is chaotic, all over the place, then your reader can get bored easily, or they can't really follow your ideas so they give up. Your text needs to have this red thread, which is your main theme, the core idea. Don't lose sight of it.
Depending on your topic, if you use a certain concept, it's always best to use examples so the reader has no issues in understanding what you're trying to explain.
Read articles similar to what you want to write. You can pick on a lot of techniques from there.
I wouldn't say this one is a tip because I find it essential, but reading. And I don't mean what I pointed out at no. 5. The more diverse is it, the better. I would always say that it's not enough for a filmmaker to go to film school and watch movies. They learn their job for sure, but how can one use the cinematic medium to have an actual discourse on cinema, on life, if they don't have some cultural background? And I don't mean this in an elitist way, I think we should acquire knowledge from different sources, to expand our mind, even if it comes in bits and pieces. A bit of philosophy, literature, art history, cultural studies, sociology, etc. And this is a never ending process. For this blog I had to read up on some topics that I wasn't always too familiar with, but that's the interesting part of it because researching and writing becomes a learning experience.

RE JIMIN'S LOVE LANGUAGE
This is in response to questions I've received in my message box following my recent post on Jimin's love language. Ignore this if you've read my main post on this same topic- Or maybe not.
Also, I'm sorry about the Asks. I accidentally turned it off- AGAIN. Thanks for drawing my attention to it. I purple y'all.
What I meant by my last post was that, for us to understandJimin or even the rest of the members' love language, it is important we make a distinction between what is uniquely Jimin/the individual members' love language and what is their culture's or even the established and accepted practices within their group.
And on that, I said skinship is a cultural practice but also one of the group's adopted love languages. It is their way of achieving intimacy and bonding with eachother and as such they do not associate romantic connotations with it.
Thus, when they touch eachother in any way, provocative as it may seem to us, to them there is nothing romantic about it at all. So when Taekook, Jikook, Yoonmin or any of these pairs touch eachother, it is not with romantic intentions.
Why then does Jimlous and Jeonlous exist? For a myriad of reasons other than that skinship is romantic! Lol
I've explained previously, that JK and Jimin's discomfort with each other's skinship with the others often has to do with the lack of boundaries that is inherent in skinship rather than that they are actually jealous or see skinship as romantic. This is often true for Jimin.
With JK, his possessive nature very often amplifies his discomfort with the lack of boundaries but also because, out of the seven, he is the only one that had had a problem accepting and participating in the skinship culture within the group- well, him and Suga. It's taking them some getting used to.
But that wasn't because he was viewing skinship as romantic but rather because he was uncomfortable with affections and the overt expressions of it as is required of skinship.
That's not to say they do not or have not implied romantic intentions with their touches- there is nothing platonic about boners. Lol.
And any skinship that results in a visible sexual tension or arousal can no longer be deemed skinship- it's foreplay.
Jikook does skinship all the time like everyone else in the band, but often too some of those skinship crosses the platonic threshold into sexual foreplay- they ain't slick.
You just have to see the look on Tae's face when he noticed, through the view finder, Jimin caressing JK's thumb to comprehend that not all their touches are mere skinship.
That's one of the differences between Jikook and the other ships; Jikook presents a mutual sexual attraction towards eachother beyond the pubescent hormonal teen frenzy that marked their early formative days- god, those boys were so horny they could hump a tree to death. Bless them.
Mind you, I disregard any sexual innuendos that was present in Jikook's dynamics as well as any other ship's dynamics, if ever there was one, during that hormonal teen period of their lives. It was all something but nothing at the same time. They were all just being horny and gross teenage boys- Hashtag, war of hormones for real for real. Lol
All that that timeline taught me was, Jikook are freaky af and certainly don't see each other as brothers. CERTAINLY.
That being said, for a better understanding of Jimin's love language, a distinction must be made between love language and sexual interest. It will make sense in a bit.
Because Jimin's father is an affectionate person and this is the love language he has taught to Jimin, Jimin interprets any affectionate and kind act as a loving gesture. It is how he gives love, it is how he receives love.
He values kindness and compassion, selflessness, vulnerability, transparency, fairness etc.
Thus to show his love for you he will be kind to you, vulnerable with you, transparent with you, supportive of you and nurturing of you.
We see him being like this with all the members, even the staff and dancers too at times but more so with Tae and JK.
The question then is, how does Jimin receive love? What actions does he interpret as love? Easy, sexual attraction. Hear me out.
You see, because Jimin is a natural nurturer and he sees nurturing as a universal love language that everyone speaks or ought to speak, he requires his romantic love interest to distinguish between their platonic love interest and their romantic love interest.
To fulfill him emotionally, you would have to make him feel special, treat him differently from your friends, and let him know that you want him and only him.
Sexual interest is one way of distinguishing between platonic interests and romantic interests, and it flows from this that he not only requires grand gestures, or special treatment but that you flirt with him as well.
Hence his emphasis on flirting. He likes to flirt. He enjoys it. He's mastered it. He's a fucking pro at it- give him his medal.
Just to be clear, even though flirting is part of his love language, he has also adopted flirting as part of his idol persona and often when he is flirting overtly he is only doing it for the 'fan service.'
But that doesn't mean all of that is fan service. Sometimes it's blatant foreplay as I've explained above and if you can't tell the difference between his foreplay and fanservice- chileee, I can't help you.
I'm still traumatized by that Bon V 4 moment. Sweet Jesus, save me if they should keep this energy up!
It's important, at this point, to note that because Jimin is a nurturer, every decent human being can easily be compatible with him. I have said several times over my blog that Jimin is ship compatible with anyone and everyone- I ain't mad at that.
What it comes down to then is whom he prefers and whom he is choosing to make him happy and to fulfill him. I explained that choice and being able to be in charge of decision making and to make his own decisions is very important to Jimin because on his background.
And when it comes to love, it's no secret who Jimin wants. He wants JK and that's on Periodttt.
I explained that in the early days during Rookie King, he felt he needed to get emotionally closer to JK when he had an opportunity to talk and heal as a group- his personal was important to him.
In that JinJikook VLive when Jin was eating a lollipop in a provocative way he asked him to stop immediately but couldn't, for the love of god, tear his eyes off JK when JK ate his lollipop in a- I can't. Jikook!
Unless he is in his fan service mood or is being his slytherin slash whore of babylon self- bless him, often he would reject any attempt by anyone to flirt with him except JK.
And I keep reiterating this, flirting isn't JK's thing. It's Jimin's thing. The last time JK tried to this flirty- he cried. Lmho
Take that interview where the host moved closer to Jimin in a flirty way for example. Jimin leaned back away from him. In the popular words of Jimin- don't do that.
Then in this airport scene right here, where Suga and Tae tried to protect JM from getting mobbed (if video is missing check bottom of this post. I hate tumblr)
You could see Jimin moving towards JK. Now some may argue he was trying to protect the JK who seemed oblivious to what was going on but I beg to differ.
I just think Jimin was moving towards JK because that's his safe haven. That's the person he feels the most safe with. 'Jk will protect' 'JK is strong.' He felt threatened and his instincts was to fin that person whom he feels would and should protect him- and that person usually isn't very far away.
And no, I'm not being biased. It's just I can't in good conscience theorize and make wild assumptions about Jimin's emotional needs the way I would the other's because unlike the others, Jimin keeps showing us what he wants. Y'all are just not listening.
It is why I said, JK on paper seemed like the last person to meet Jimin's emotional needs. He didn't strike me as the ambitious type or the daring type the way Yoongi presented himself in early days. It is why I shipped Yoonmin or even Vmin.
And even in those ships, I didn't believe they were real. Suga was too emotional closed off and wouldn't
And as I explained, having been denied his ambitions, it's not a stretch to assume, Jimin desires an ambitious partner. One who loves the stage, loves their career.
But I feel, most people including myself underestimated Jungkook. As much as JK may not appear as ambitious career wise, he is one of the most passionate members of group.
His decision to join BTS was driven purely by passion, his decision to start GCF, get a tattoo and every other endeavor he's embarked has been driven purely by his passion. And passion is a variant of ambition.
Jimin pursues his ambitious and JK pursues his passions- they are the same in the same way. And I see why Jimin will tell JK they are one and the same. They are more alike than we think they are.
So yes, Jimin needs an ambitious partner but a passionate partner equally suffices.
What equally suffices is a supportive partner. One willing to sacrifice their ambitions or needs when it comes to it, to accommodate Jimin's needs. Jimin is very competitive in nature and hates to lose, we've been told.
And nobody lets Jimin win the way JK does. Nobody. It's funny, because VMin's dumpling fight took days/weeks to resolve. And Jikook's raining dat fight took a few hours.
What hit me about that tale as told by Jikook was JK going to Jimin to resolve their fight- another instance he let Jimin win. Tae loves Jimin but I don't see him sacrificing his ego and pride the way JK would for Jimin. I don't see any member doing that for Jimin quite frankly.
It is one way I see JK nurturing Jimin. Jk can be hard headed but there is a softness and a tenderness to him that's speaks to Jimin's love language.
I can go on and on about this topic, you know? Lol

GOLDY

Badelj podcast
For @lovren-la-vida-luka who wanted to see why everyone likes Badelj
Tumblr media
Host: *asks first question about the club and the second is immediately "how is Pjaca?"
Badelj: Pjaca is well. He is getting back into shape after that injury. I am sorry he isn't with the nt right now
Host: every kid that plays football dreams of playing in the nt. Tell me, at what point in your life did you realize "oh, I am someone who can play in Dinamo and in the nt" and was the support from people around you important in that?
Badelj: well, I don't think I ever thought that. Don't get me wrong-I didn't doubt myself. But when you watch TV and you see people playing for big clubs or for the nt...you don't know how that works. What's going on in their heads. I think people around me believed that I could do it more than i did, to be quite honest
Host: do know anyone who you expected to make a great career in football but didn't, for whatever reason?
Badelj: from my generation? I thought Tomecak would go out of the country and make a big career there. There was also Lovren. You see, the rest of us went step by step in our career but Loki skipped steps, climbing higher. I think he made international career first from all of us. But yes, I expected Tomecak to do so as well
Badelj: *explaining how while he was in Lokomotiva they were second in second league *
Badelj: I think the club that was first was called...Mladost Suhopolje? I think? Is that possible?
Domo: *yelling something from the background *
Host: Vida says that's not possible
Domo: it doesn't exist anymore!
Badelj: but it didn't exist. I am talking about something 12 years ago
Other host from the background: there was a club called Mladost from Suhopolje
Badelj: so I wasn't wrong
Saša(a doctor, second podcast guest): *quietly* damn
Badelj: you want me to be wrong don't you? You are just waiting for it
Sasa: maybe
Host: Could you name what other 4 players except for you transfered first from Dinamo to Lokomotva?
Badelj: Oh, I can, but you see, you are wrong, First transfer from Dinamo to Lokomotiva happened 4 years before ours, and it included 10 players. But, second transfer you think of was ours. *proceeds to number the other 4 guys*
Host: you came to Dinamo as a replacement for Luka Modric, but you played a bit with him before that, right?
Badelj: yes, in 2008, for about 5 months before he transferred
Host: could you have guessed back then that he would be such a well known player?
Badelj: I personally don't think you can tell those things. He always had that something. That quality, that kind of special talent you don't forget. But for a player to win all the awards that he did you need your cards to fit just right. And lots of media exposure. The fact that he won all that, that's incredible
Host: could you tell us some things you remember from your time in Dinamo?
Badelj: in Dinamo? Well the problem is that I remember everything from my time in Dinamo. But to sum it up, the first and the last game. The first, in which we played against Rijeka and I scored a goal. I'll never forget that. I remember thinking I was on top of the world back then. And the last, against Maribor, where in first half I gave autogol and the fans booed me as I exited the pitch, and second half, where I scored a winning goal for us. I think that last game sums up my time in Dinamo very well. Ups and downs
Host: okay, first card break. Please take your cards
Sasa: *reaches out and turns one card *
Badelj: you turned them! Why did you already turn them?
Sasa: I only turned one
Badelj: we are supposed to wait until he tells us to turn them and read
Sasa: well, I did have a habit of cheating on my exams
Badelj: Well, I for one am glad for cards break. I was starting to think my friend Vida will fall asleep
*Domo yelling something from the background *
Sasa: quiet. I don't want to choose hard questions
Host: okay, okay. Miki, read it for doctor
Badelj: oh I am reading it to him? *smiles * see? You fucked up
Badelj: extra time or penalties?
Sasa: *pause * penalities?
Badelj: in football, you know?
Sasa: of course I-
*everyone laughs, Vida's laugh is literally echoing *
Badelj: okay, okay. I am just saying, because questions are mean. It could have been a metaphor. So in football. Extra time or penalties
Sasa: penalties
Sasa: popcorn or chips?
Badelj: chip
Sasa: of course, that was easy. I would have answered the same
Badelj: I am sure you would. Besides, I saw the question beforehand when you turned it on the table
Sasa: okay, I definitely already know your answer to this but anyway-
Badelj: no, wait. Don't read the question, tell me what I'd answer and I'll guess what the question is
Sasa: Beer
Badelj: Wine or beer?
Sasa: ...yes
Badelj: I know your answer to this one too
Sasa: tell me the answer then, I'll guess the question
Badelj: cat
Sasa: cat or a dog?
Badelj: yes
Sasa: hmmm. A dog
Host: I think Milan won this round guys
Sasa: wait-
Domo: *laughs again *
Sasa: why did he win? When I am a dog?
Badelj: I didn't ask if you'd rather be a dog or a cat. I meant what would you rather have
Domo: *laughs harder *
Sasa: yes. A DOG
Badelj: oh. A dog? But if I ask what kind-
Sasa: a small one
Badelj: ah. So you want a cat. Next!
Badelj: prosciutto or kulen?
Sasa: joooj
Host: careful, careful what you say
Sasa: Vida is here but- prosciutto
Vida: Then I won't send anything to your house!
Badelj: at least you know who not to send it to. Send it to me
Sasa: except if it's from black pig
Vida: yeah, yeah, now. It's over now. No more deliveries to your address
Host: so, I want to hear a bit about towns you lived in. Firenze specifically, as one of centers of culture
Badelj: well it isn't only cultural but also gastronomic center and general hedonistic city and region. You can really enjoy yourself there. People are also interesting...I am afraid Domo is falling asleep
Host: I am sure he finds that interesting as well
Badelj: well, I don't know. I tried to get him to visit me while I was there but he never did. As a manager I failed
Host: speaking of travelling, Iva told me she almost didn't manage to contact you for WC in Brazil
Badelj: well that isn't my fault. Whenever she can locate me or not is her issue. I was...located. The fact is I was in an plane while we played our first game in Brazil. I am sorry Iva, I know this isn't a very good advertisement for you-seriously she is amazing and she usually plans everything ahead and I think without her at least one person would get lost on a airport before every game. But the fact is, that time I didn't play the first game because I was in an airplane
Host: so tell me, did you ever get an offer from Milan? And if you did how close you were to signing. And the most importantly if you have signed, would you have "Milan" or "Badelj" on your jersey?
Badelj: definitely Badelj
Host: is there more pressure to do an operation on a professional football player than let's say, your neighbor?
Sasa: of course. I mean, their whole career depends on that. If I operate my neighbor and it isn't as good as it can be he can just stop playing football in his free time. If I tell Badelj he can't play football anymore-
Badelj: don't drag me into this mess. I don't want to imagine that
Host: it seems only charmers come from Gajnice. I mean, football wise(charmer isn't exactly the right word but...I can't think of a better one to fit)
Badelj: yes. We bully the strong ones out of football. They can do athletics
Host: the most memorable part about you for me actually isn't your career, but the speech you held at your teammate, Astori's funeral. How did you manage to do that? To hold yourself together and make such a speech?
Badelj: well I. You have to understand, outside of Croatia, he was my best friend. We were captain and vice captain so it began as a duty to keep the team together at first. And during that time...when he died, there was lots of new, young player in Florentina and they looked up to us for guidence. So...so it made sense for me to hold that speech. One thing that made it easier that I had period of 3 days before the speech after he died. Three days of crying and suffering but at least you get some of that grief out. I wasn't empty of it when I held the speech but I wasn't overflowing either
Host: alright, next card break
Sasa: who has the best free kick?
Badelj: oh man, there are quite a few. Brozo, Orša and Bruno is good as well. If Srna was here I'd say him. Or if Raketa was here. Perisic is also good. He can shoot with both legs too. Not in the same time though
Badelj: who eats the most?
Sasa: well-
Badelj: and not on your table. Our table. But how would he know, he doesn't eat with us
Domo: why not from his table? It says who in the team as a whole!
Badelj: but that isn't fun! How about who in the history of the team?
Sasa: hmmmm. Let me think. Who would it-
*voices overlapping, Domo laughing *
Badelj: you are really mean. Really mean
Domo: I didn't say anything
Badelj: but you thought of it. Few times
Sasa: who takes the most to get ready? I even know that one
Badelj: Peri always comes in last. But I don't think he takes that long to get ready. But he does come in last
Badelj: best sense of humor?
Sasa: oh there are a lot of players with a good sense of humor. Hmm
Badelj: it doesn't have to be a player
Sasa: it doesn't?
Host: well it's more fun if it is, but it's okay if it isn't
Sasa: hm Someone off the camera: Miki!
Badelj: I am not funny. He likes to talk to me but I am not funny
Sasa: well you can be funny. Sometimes. But Vida I guess. He really cheered me up this morning
Badelj: what did he tell you?
Sasa: oh he was pestering me
Badelj: and you love when people pester you?
*everyone burst out laughing *
Sasa: no! That's not-it was just funny!
Host: so, there has been a question in our podcasts, who would you choose as a partner in Potjera and 90% of our guests said Miki Badelj. What kind of cheating did you use to get that kind of reputation?
Badelj: I have no idea. You'll have to ask them that
Host: if you weren't in football, what fields would you be interested in?
Badelj: I'd still be in sport. Even if I didn't end up as a football player I'd do something with sport. That always interested me, even as a subject itself
Host: would you be a sport doctor like Sasa?
Badelj: god no
Sasa: no huh?
Badelj: I really don't think I am the type for that
Sasa: favorite subject?
Badelj: Geography
Sasa: same! I guess we really are friends for a reason. Favorite movie?
Badelj: it was brave heart for a long while but not anymore-
Sasa: it was my favorite too!
Badelj: you know you don't have to answer this question right? I also liked Interstellar for awhile but I watched it too many times
Sasa: Interstellar is too long for me
Badelj: and Brave Heart wasn't??
Sasa: favorite female or male singer?(we have different words for each)
Badelj: female singer
*all laugh *
Badelj: Alright, alright. Nina Badric
Sasa: as a singer or...?
Host: so tell me, who doesn't complain a lot about...well, everything?
Sasa: well, Luka, Vida, Miki...older players generally complain less than younger ones. *Looks up, sees Livi *And Livi of course! But none of goalies complain, really
Host: a lot of players from bronze generation became coaches. 14 of them, actually. If we say hypothetically 14 of silver generation will do the same, who do you think would become a coach? You can switch on saying names
Sasa: Miki
Badelj: hah. Sasa
Sasa: you can't choose me!
Badelj: fine, fine. Carli then. He already is but it still counts, right?
Sasa: I think Lovren would want to be a coach
Badelj: hmmmm *looking at Vida * would you want to be a coach? Vida!
Sasa: Luka would probably want to be one
Host: that's five
Badelj: hmmm. Piva
Host: okay, we won't go to 14 since it would probably be hard to get to that number. Next card break
Sasa: who would you choose as a co-driver in rallying?
Badelj: Vida. Yes, yes, Vida
Domo: you sure about that?
Badelj: it's because Vida has that sort of personality that in last seconds, when that kind of character is important, he makes a step forward. Because you can't stay in place. Either you make a step forward or a step back. And he'd take a step forward
Badelj: who would you choose to score a penalty if your life depended on him scoring?
Sasa: uff
Badelj: remember, your life depends on it!
Sasa: Kramaric
*uhhhing and ahhhing from the background *
Vida, barely audible: not bad
Sasa: as a partner for tennis?
Badelj: oh god. I have no idea how anyone plays
Sasa: *streching *
Badelj: is that you volonteering or...?
Sasa: no!
*Domo laughs *
Sasa: besides, you have to choose a player, not me
Badelj: hmmm. Brozo. He can run a lot. A lot more than me. *laughs * so it wouldn't be so bad
Badelj: to choose a movie for you?
Sasa: hmmm, not you, you'd choose something too serious. I'd choose Vida, he'd pick something funny
Domo: *says something
Sasa: you don't watch them either? Miki do you watch them?
Badelj: I do, but I wouldn't know what to recommend
Domo: Livi!
Sasa: Livi is young still. He didn't watch a lot of movies
Livi says something it sort of sounds like: Oh com'on!
Sasa: I don't know who I'd pick, really
Badelj: can he say I don't know?
Host: yeah, I guess so
Sasa: but I said you first!
Badelj: no, you said I'd pick something too serious. You said Domo would pick something funny first
Domo: But I don't watch movies!
Sasa: fine, then Livi, if I must
Badelj: if I must do you hear that Livi? How do you feel about that?
Host: he looks truly honored
Badelj: who would you choose to help you cheat on a test?
Sasa: you
Badelj: and I'd be already cheating by reading someone else'd answer so that's a good idea *laughs *
Sasa: who would you choose as a partner in a fight?
Badelj: Vida
Host: As a doctor would you explain to us how during WC in 2018 there wasn't a single game where one of the players couldn't play because of an injury? What is the secret?
Sasa: well, motivation mostly. Everyone wanted to play. Even if someone had some issue-and we had them, they would push through it and play anyway. I'll be honest. There were some players I thought wouldn't be able to get through the game but not only did they manage it but they manage to play until the end of the WC
Badelj: yeah, Šime
Sasa: yes, it was Šime. I didn't want to use the names but it was him. I didn't expect him to play after the game against Russia but he did and he played the England and the France one. I-I really don't know how to explain what he did
Host: so when we made pairs that will come to the studio I'll admit I was really looking forward to interviewing the two of you-
Badelj: now you are just talking shit. You say that to everyone
Sasa: Vida did he say the same thing to everyone?
Badelj: you should have written it on the cards "I looked forward to talking the two of you the most"
Host: -and you fulfilled my expectations despite the fact that Miki obviousy isn't funny-
Badelj: I am not! But I recommend bad, too serious movies. Serious and boring ones
Sasa: I only said serious ones!
Host, turning to the camera: Thank you for watching our newest podcast! Watch us tomorrow as well!

Chiang Mai Life
Have you ever seen the commercial or ad or whatever that says "Tiny keyboard, Big headache"? Well let me just say that's how i feel about typing these blog posts from my phone. We all know I'm more of a novelist... so that is why I have been slacking. Also I'm on vacation, and this somehow feels a bit like work. So this is for all 14 of my loyal followers, you're welcome. Let me give you an update on things:
1. Holy temples! Chiang Rai is the bees knees!! If you want to see some of the most bizarre, yet detailed oriented, and slightly questionable artwork I highly recommend the White Temple and the Baandam Museum (aka the Black House). Let me break them down for you and ed-u-ma-cate you.
         A. The White Temple: My thoughts, "Do I really want to go to another temple? There's going to be so many tourists... ugh. Guess I'll go." Please excuse my American Millennial slang when I say OMFG! THAT SHIT WAS DOPE AF! Seriously. The amount of time and detail that's put into this is crazy. So this temple got started in 1997 by some master artist that has an odd obsession with all things pop culture and politically questionable. It is a 90 year work in progress! As in, most people reading this will be dead when it's completed. (Sorry for the bluntness) But yea you can see for yourself what I mean by artistically gifted. I only wish they would have allowed me to take pictures of the murals that line the insides of this "sacred place".  Inside you'll not only find a wax figure of Buddha, but hidden gems like Pikachu, Hello Kitty, and even, the attractive Keanu Reeves. If you go to any temple at all, it should be this one because the artwork speaks for itself. I'm slightly disappointed I only paid 2 cents to get in.

         B. The Baandam Museum is truly one of the most extensive collection of animal bones I've ever seen. "Baan" means house, while "dam" translates to black so it literally translates to Black House. This was by far my favorite "museum" I've ever been to. It probably would seem creepy to most, but the artist lines the walls of 43 structures with animal bones, skulls, skins, and the most detailed woodworking I've ever seen. Bones are assembled in an almost ritualistic way. It's beautiful.

2. While the title of this post is "Chiang Mai Life", Chiang Rai is where I had my self- actualization moment. I had some seriously deep thoughts in the mountains of Chiang Rai that really has changed my perspective on quite a few things. I also experienced the most beautiful thing in my life. I'm not kidding. I was speechless for the first time. I think everyone has at least one of those moments in their life where the world quite literally stops for you. All is quiet. And you can't think of anything more beautiful. Maybe it's holding a child you just gave birth to, maybe it's experiencing love for the first time, maybe it's jumping out of a plane.... everyone has a moment and I had one. Watching the sunset at one of the highest peaks while the full moon reflected in the background was breathless. It was my moment. My world stopped.

3. I met this stranger in a coffee shop. An older gentleman i had never seen and will most likely never see again. We had some of the most meaningful conversation and it made me realize several things. Travelers are a whole different people. I'm one of those people. We don't just travel, but we experience. We do things to learn more about the world. We make ourselves uncomfortable and do things others wouldn't normally do. We are wise and infinitely young. We live by doing, not by example. Although travelers are all so different and we each have our own story, we have a commonality in that we are always searching for new knowledge and new experiences. We revel in learning and doing. We love being.
Sorry for the deep thoughts here, but the post is called "Chiang Mai Life"...
4. Going back to Chiang Mai, I decided it's time to start doing. Even if it meant the touristy things, but YOLO and who knows if I'll ever come back to this magical place... so I booked a cooking class, a trekking tour, and a ziplining excursion. I'll break them down for you..
         A. Cooking Class: This was awesome. It was Christmas day for me and I was kind of feeling sad and lonely. Well turns out, I ended up being the only person in that cooking class. I liked it though. The owner was very cool and took me to the local market and explained ingredients to me and showed me how to shop for the best items. We all know I come from a cooking household, but let me just say Thai cooking and ingredients are a brand new experience. Asia has so many fruits, vegetables, and spices I've never even heard of. After the market, I talked to a local about cooking methods, and after using a mortar and pestle for about 30 minutes, I have a new appreciation for pre-made chili paste. I almost boiled my arms because they were noodles at that point. I made 6 items: Cashew Chicken Stir-fry (Gai Pad Med Mamuang), Northern style chicken curry (Khao Soi), Coconut Milk and Chicken Soup (Tom Kah Gai), Spring Rolls, Mango Sticky Rice, and Red Chili paste.

        B. Trekking Tour: Made for beginners or out-of shape people like me, this little tour was perfect. We started at this phenomenal waterfall in the famous Doi Inthanon National Park. Then we trekked about 3km through the jungle to a hill tribe village, belonging to the Karen people. We passed fields of strawberries, rice, chrysanthemums, and coffee plants. We crossed bridges made of bamboo and even caught a glimpse of an electric green python native to Southeast Asia. After we got to the village, we were able to watch how the coffee was roasted, hand ground and brewed. From there, we went to two pagodas honoring the queen and late King. Our tour concluded with a visit to a hill tribe market overflowing with fresh produce and local honey.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
        C. Zipling: Please see my Google rating for "Jungle Flight Chiang Mai" for a more detailed description. Ha. Kidding. Although the review is way more kickass than this. Ziplining was awesome yet slightly terrifying. I'm pretty sure I've once before mentioned the safety protocols in Thailand... they're non existant. I'm pretty sure OSHA would have something to say. (Harley maybe you shouldn't visit) But damn I'm glad it was questionable because flying through the mountains was exhilarating. Getting slung around on a zipline roller coaster left me squealing with delight! To the losers that said, "I like more extreme sports." You're missing out!
Tumblr media
Sorry if this post was too short but honestly, the experiences have just been so much fun! I don't have any complaints or overly funny stories because I'm living in the moment... Although my instructor for the ziplining course said I need to use my ass more. He's quite right though. Looking at my inflated pancake ass has me longing for a stairmaster and a salad. Damn Northern Thailand and their delicious food... Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and will have a Happy New Year! I promise I've thought about every single one of you.
