been getting into a pokemon roguelike/roguelite(?) that u can just play in ur browser n its like. genuinely really fun this is the most fun ive had with a pokemon game with mainline traits in a Long time. but also it has lil minecraft-style tips or silly messages or whatever near the title and it told me abt save scumming. while i was save scumming. incredible

#they also gave each pokemon 4 completely new egg moves that are like. absurd #THEY GAVE THE LITWICK LINE TORCH SONG ?? HELLO. #i already beat classic mode which was both easy bc i snowballed into a bunch of really good rng but also super challenging?? #so now im playing endless mode 👍 its so Fun but i also feel like the difficulty is a bit more in this one. maybe gave the mons crazy ivs.. #delphox and primarina are incredible in this btw. serperior too #i hope to get a volcarona at some point bc i feel like itd be good.. #also!!! the care they put into this game . ough. they use bw style sprites and bw AND pmd sky music!!!! #pkmn #anyway go play pokerogue its cool <3

(hmmm ok there is a very chandelure centric au i've been kicking around but idk if i can work it in a short thing. let's find out)

Chandelure are by no means native to Hisui, so nobody in the clans has see this specific kind of Pokémon before, but it doesn't really matter, ultimately. They know what that purple flame signifies, what kind of fuel it burns.

They're right, but their fear is also misplaced. Ingo knows this. It's not that the lantern has morals, exactly, but it's well trained—it knows how to siphon only a tiny bit of life, how to feed itself without killing others, it would only eat whole humans if it was desperate.

But he also knows that if it were starving, it wouldn't hesitate to use whatever was nearby. And, worse, he also knows—though he can't justify it to any level of conscience—that he would let it. For some reason, there is nothing as important to him as keeping the lantern lit. And if it fights too hard and its flame dips low, he feels it, as if it's him that's growing exhausted, but that isn't it. That's not enough of a reason. Whatever his connection to this lantern is—wherever he found it, why it follows him—he can't shake the feeling that if it ever goes out, something terrible would happen. Terrible enough that he would do just about anything to keep it burning.

And Hisui, he feels, is sparsely populated, such that it might struggle to find fuel, but fortunately they figure out a solution pretty quickly. It drinks the frenzy of alphas. It's easy—none of them come close to matching its strength.

(The Pearl Clan warms up to it pretty quickly after that.)

Victor's team at the start of his "Journey" (time in and before Ingolstadt) Would consist of Electrike, Litwick, and Rufflet. I see Electrike as the type of pokemon who'd be kind of like family dog type, it evolves into Manectric by the time he's begun constructing the creature. Rufflet is his main partner he brings into school, and while studying his theories of reanimation meets litwick who's very helpful when he's studying (take into note its pokedex entry "While shining a light and pretending to be a guide, it leeches off the life force of any who follow it").

Within his laboratory are dozens of Joltik, along with a Galvantula he's befriended. At this point Electrike has evolved into Manectric and Litwick into Lampent "Lampent is feared as the emissary of death", Rufflet remains unchanged. When Victor finally makes his attempt to reanimate the creature, he makes uses the help of the electrical power that comes from the Galvantula in his lab along with Manectric's, at the end of the experiment they both seem to have disappeared, evaporated even.

Much is unchanged until his family starts dying off, returning home for Williams funeral and after Justine's execution, Victor gains a Phantump who begins to follow him ("According to old tales, these Pokémon are stumps possessed by the spirits of children who died while lost in the forest" thumbs up emoji). By the time he confronts the creature Rufflet evolves into Braviary ("It is known for its bravery and pride, and will fight fiercely to help and protect its friends. Even if it is injured or has its life threatened, it will still fight"). Once he begins to create and subsequently destroy the bride, Spiritomb joins his team ("It will lash out at anyone with little thought, often exercising short-sightedness in its pursuit of vengeance"), and then following the deaths of both Henry and Elizabeth Lampent finally evolves to Chandelure ("It is said that any spirits that get incinerated by Chandelure's flames end up losing their way and are forced to wander the mortal world forever").

In the end Braviary is lost to the Arctic and slowly the ghosts in his party leave him, Chandelure wandering off with the creature at the end of the book 🫶
