history doesn't repeat itself (but it sure does rhyme)
wordcount: 3k, oneshot
"What would you do if we let you go, right now?" Pixlriffs finally broke the silence, as he opened the notebook he had been carrying, ready to write her answer.
She doesn't know where this is going, but False figures that she doesn't really needs to, just like she doesn't need to give her response any extra thought.
"I would run to that chest over there," she pointed as much as she could with her tied hands. "And grab my trident and a shield. I would then kill you, and depending on what Sausage would do after that, I would kill him too, or grab my elytra and fly to Cogsmeade"
or;
The empires' crew find out about False's hobby, and are at a lost of what to do. Luckily, Joel has a book titled "The Empires Game" that might help with their situation.

In memory of my 500 Megabite survival world, Glenvale, in which I just lost literally everything I worked so hard to accumulate to lava. My elytra, trident, bow, shulkers, and everything else is gone because of a stupid fucking glitch that prevented me from equipping a totem.
I’m fucking deleting that world. I can’t do this shit anymore man. It took me so long to bounce back the last time this happened. (More vent bs below the cut)
I know I shouldn’t be getting so worked up about Minecraft but god I wanna fucking cry. I’ve not had a good week. I had a panic attack on Wednesday, dad made my sister cry and was passive aggressive to both of us for something we can’t control on Thursday. And today I spent in horrid pain because I just got my fucking wisdom teeth out and now I lost everything I worked so hard for and I don’t even have any tears left to cry. I’m fucking done.

🦙🌲🍎💀🕊🧨
🦙 (llama) give us a list of your favourite Minecraft mobs! Why are these ones specifically Your Little Guys?
UHHHHHHHHH endermen are my beloveds. i leave them alone and they leave me alone. we good! as for non-hostile mobs i LOVE cats and foxes. ALSO FROGS i finally saw a frog recently ingame and was stunned by how absolutely SHAPED it is
i love cats for reasons of I Love Cats IRL but foxes are my Little Guys because.. man what were we even doing. shay went out into the wilderness with a friend on shadowrealms for ? something ? and ended up in a taiga out in the middle of Fucking Nowhere. they built a little temporary house until they could figure out a way back to spawn bc they were like a thousand blocks out, and then suddenly shay found a fox and got Instantly Attached and the mission upgraded from "return home" to "return home with fox". the mission was a success and shay named him Reggie :D
🌲(spruce) what are some of your favourite blocks to build with? What blocks do you think should be added to Minecraft?
i am a birch planks enjoyer. i also really like polished andesite and deepslate tiles! also warped wood and blackstone. and mossy cobblestone + mossy stone brick.. or stone brick in general.. i've been doing a build with a lot of stone varieties lmao
i'm not really sure what should be added? maybe a lighter wood that's not quite as bright as birch, idk
🍎(apple) preferred food to munch on in game?
you would not BELIEVE how much pumpkin pie we have on surefire (not a lot, actually, we need to afk for eggs more. we have a double chest+ of the other two ingredients)
other than that, uhhh. bread? leontids is currently living off bread on dominionerds. shay mostly had baked potatoes on shadowrealms i think. whatever's available and quick to make (asides from the pumpkin pie thing which required two (2) farms and 12+ hours of insanity because we've never done redstone farms before)
💀 (skull) how often do you die? And what is the thing that kills you the most?
Tumblr media
(this actually isn't true right now because we have slowfall on surefire and total immunity to falling damage + experiencing kinetic energy on dominionerds)
on surefire i think most of our deaths have been spontaneous combustion? because we're a phantom and keep forgetting about it in daytime. we've only died twice on dominionerds and those two times were 1) to the warden and 2) intentionally getting mauled by a polar bear because we got very, very lost and needed a quick trip back to spawn
🕊(bird) are you to be trusted with an elytra or are you going to fly face first into a wall? Are you good at parkour? Good at pvp?
I FUCKING LOVE ELYTRA i like to think i'm good at it! i had a lot of practice on shadowrealms and that was fun. only just got an elytra on surefire and i don't really use it, but on dominionerds i have an elytra built-in and i am a menace with it. especially combined with the kinetic damage immunity combined with a launch meaning i just fire myself straight at the ground and win
parkour is something i WANT to be good at but very much am not i think. i am determined but perhaps not determined enough. meanwhile with pvp i need a very specific loadout and very specific terrain or else i die instantly because i'm a bit of a weenie, but shay did a lot of fight club stuff on shadowrealms with his trident and that was cool
🧨(tnt) preferred way of blowing your world to pieces? Boom? Boom? Boom? Boom?
I HAVEN'T ACTUALLY HAD TO DO ANY DEMOLITION YET SURPRISINGLY ENOUGH but like. you can't go wrong with TNT. asides from going wrong with TNT. it's fine

- It’s Hannah’s one-year anniversary on the SMP! She goes over to Niki’s city and reads Niki’s Christmas present book for her
- Boomer logs on. Hannah meets up with him and shows him to Niki’s city so that Boomer can get his gift too
- Quackity joins VC pretending to be Foolish and wishes Hannah a happy first birthday before abruptly leaving
- Hannah and Boomer go to Foolish’s summer home to see the DreamXD statue, complete with its red mustache. They take some of Foolish’s amethyst and Sam logs on while Boomer builds a food shack
- Foolish logs on and meets them there. Hannah remembers how on her first day, Foolish helped her build her house. It was originally meant to be temporary – what if they blew up her house to build a new one?
- Foolish, Boomer and Sam start smacking each other around and Foolish dies, exploding into green particles with his new immortality. They’re all shocked
Hannah: “So why do you have immortality?”
Foolish: “Um...I dunno, I sucked up to God.”
Hannah: “I thought that was gonna go a different direction.”
- Sam, hearing that this is how Foolish achieved immortality, wants to suck up God as well, but Foolish tells him it was a one-time thing
- The group heads over to Hannah’s house. Sam immediately starts placing down TNT but Hannah’s things are all still in there. She rushes inside, finding Shoe and Wash Your Rice there. Sam decides that they can die. Hannah hurries to save everything else
- While Hannah is still in her house, Boomer ignites the TNT. It all goes down, and Hannah dies in the explosion, losing all of her things. She respawns and realizes she lost the Elytra in the blast
- Sam gives her a shovel. She has nothing. Sam offers to show her his mega terraformed island where she can build a new place to stay
- Hannah announces that they are doing lore now, and she is actually going to kill Boomer as revenge for that. Foolish suggests that he could put in a good word for DreamXD
- They make it to the giant island and Sam shows them around. He’s offended when Hannah says she didn’t know he was a builder builder
Sam: “No it’s fine, I forgive you ‘cause I’m the good guy on the server, if you didn’t know, I’m the good guy.”
Foolish: “Are you?”
Sam: (muttering) “Better shut your mouth.”
Sam: “Yeah, I’m the good guy! I only killed one person in cold blood, so that’s pretty good I think.”
Foolish: “Yeah, yeah yeah! He definitely had it coming.”
Sam: “No, he had it coming. Yeah, he had it coming.”
- Sam tells her to get rich again, gather resources. Hannah still has some diamond blocks and gold in her Ender Chest. Tina logs on. Foolish offers Hannah a Riptide trident in exchange for all her gold blocks, but Hannah might still have a trident
- Hannah tells Foolish to talk to DreamXD for her, plus an axe, in exchange for the gold. Foolish agrees to the trade
- Bad joins the call and they fill him in on what happened. They all get the idea to go to Boomer’s swamp and blow up his house in retaliation
- Hannah, Sam, Foolish, Bad and Tina make it to the swamp. Technoblade logs on. Hannah asks if he would like to blow up things with them
Technoblade: ive never hated or blown up anything in my life
...
Bad: techno boomer is trying to form a government in this swamp
Bad: we need help
- They go around Boomer’s house and start placing TNT. They kill all of Boomer’s animals. Hannah asks Techno if he wants to blow up things again
Technoblade: Read at 5:24pm
- Bad, Foolish and Sam get into an argument about the economy. Techno logs off. Tina is not a war criminal, just a journalist documenting the crimes
- They set off the explosion, leaving Boomer’s house nothing but a large crater
- Afterwards, they hang out at Boomer’s area for a while. They do a manhunt and explain what himbos are to BadBoyHalo
- They return to Hannah’s house before they have to go find Tina on a rescue mission. Antfrost logs on
- Hannah sets off fireworks back home while Tina does the cinematography
- The group then goes to Las Nevadas’ Among Us bunker. Karl later joins the call as well

Home in the Stars
AO3 Link
Etho’s eyes shot open. He clutched his chest where Joel’s sword had just been. He wasn’t surrounded by walls anymore. There were no burning trees or blood stained grass. The bed across from him is empty. Two beds, Iskall. He’s in his hermitcraft base. He’s on a rock floating in the sky. He’s not at a risk of death. He had unlimited respawn. His admin was a stone's throw away to fix the server should it glitch or lag. He was safe.
For the first time in a while, Etho let himself breathe. He pulled himself up and watched the clouds move outside. It was a sunny day on hermitcraft, just like it usually was. He could see the stretch of ocean melding with the sky. The high sun shimmered on the waves. He hadn’t seen the ocean in weeks. It had to be at least noon from the sun’s point. What time was it?
Time.
Bdubs.
He threw open the door to his room. The mountainous base was further along than when he had left for the death game with the other hermits. He ran in search of his roommate, it had been so long since he had seen another hermit not in last life. He had missed Iskall. His farms were in place and chest’s all a mess. Diamonds were piled high for him to spend at the various shops. He gently held the shimmering gemstone. It had been so long since he had been able to hold one without thinking about making it into armor.
Bdubs had to be at his moon base. That was the only place he could think to check. They hadn’t built up much before they left for last life but that base was a surefire place to check. Bdubs would be there, Etho was sure of it. He grabbed a spare elytra from his enderchest and strapped it on. Iskall wouldn’t mind if he broke the NWC rules this once. It would be fine. This was more important.
He jumped from the cliffside and soared on top of the ocean. The water just barely passed beneath him. He felt the cold spray up at him as he raced across the server. This wasn’t a small lake, it was a whole ocean. Thousands of blocks were there.
He flew as fast as he could to Bdubs’s base. He should have brought more rockets with him but there would be some in his enderchest when he landed. He passed Keralis on his way and waved. Keralis wasn’t on last life. He really was back home.
The house rushed towards him and he turned his elytra towards the ground. He stumbled on the grass, not used to flight after spending so long using ender pearls or walking. How was he supposed to use a trident? Etho pushed open the door to his base. He hesitantly looked around at the crescent base. “Bdubs?” There was a shuffle upstairs. He bolted through the house towards the sound. “Bdubs!”
“Etho?” It was faint but it was there. That was Bdubs’s voice. His voice wasn't riddled with fury and pain. He sounded excited and happy. He sounded alive. He skipped steps to the next floor and stood in shock. He was fine. There was no arrow piercing his back. He wasn’t a body in the grass. His moss hoodie covered his hair, finally washed free of blood and dirt. His eyes weren’t red anymore. Etho was sure only one of his own was. They were safe.
“Welcome back, Etho!” Bdubs smiled. Etho ran forward and sent the two crashing to the ground from the hug. The hoodie wasn’t the one he had taken on the server. This one was soft enough that he could bury his head inside and imagine he was laying on a pillow. “Jeeze, you miss me that much?”
Etho was quiet. Did he remember what he did when he was a ghost? How he spent so long following him, watching for when he died. Did he not remember the hours Etho spent staring at a wall he imagined Bdubs’s ghost to stand? Did he remember his death? The fact Etho had to bury him in the ground?
“What happened?” Bdubs asked. “After I left...I mean, when I stopped with my ghost tendencies. It’s been quiet around here with so many hermits gone.”
Etho held the moss sleeve. “I lost.”
Bdubs sucked in a breath. Etho watch him check the hermitcraft tab menu and sure enough, there were still hermits missing. The fight back on last life was still going on. Who knows for how long. The ghosts might stay or maybe they would come back. All of boatem was dead. He wondered who won, but was just glad it hadn’t been Grian. He might have started a whole world of just the two so he could get his revenge and win.
“I lost too, guess we’re both losers!” Bdubs tried to lighten his mood, running a hand through his hair.
“I didn’t win it for you.” Etho sulked. “I was supposed to win if you didn’t for me.”
Bdubs frowned. “Listen here, there were almost 20 of us there. The fact you made it that far shows how hard you tried. You did your best, be proud of yourself for that. You only went yellow because of a creeper. If you wouldn’t harass them so much in your single-player world that wouldn’t have happened.”
“Creepers are stupid.” Etho mumbled.
“Doc is a creeper.”
“He doesn’t count.”
Etho sighed. “I’m still sorry. I wanted to win.”
“You always want to win, this time you didn’t.” Bdubs pointed out.
Etho reflected on Bdubs’s callout. The two stayed silent on the floor of the base, watching through the window as the sun slowly fell. The peace was broken by Bdubs shooting up, throwing Etho onto the floor. Etho groaned, his chest pain now coming back as the wound reopened.
“How long have you been back?” Bdubs asked.
Etho rubbed the back of his head that had hit the floor. “I don’t know? When did I get here?”
Bdubs threw his hands up. “Of course. You don’t fix your injuries, you just grab an elytra and fly over here. How did you die? I’m getting a first-aid kid and potions. If you even move…” He let the threat hang in the air. Etho stayed perfectly still. He didn’t know how Bdubs would kill him, but his anger wasn’t to be messed with.
In Etho’s defense, it wasn’t anything new; he didn't notice if he was hurt most of the time if it wasn’t life threatening. Last life had been different. He was on hermitcraft now, he didn’t have to care. It was a recurring theme for Etho and Bdubs should have been used to it by now. There were much more important things. He had the other hermits to remind him that his arm was possibly broken.
Bdubs stomped back in with a first aid kid and a health potion. Etho groaned, absolutely hating the taste of health potions. They weren’t as bad as strength potions, but he would rather drink the sweet regen instead. Bdubs sat down and gestured to Etho. “Let’s get it over with, and no complaining.”
Etho grumbled and took his vest and shirt off. The wound wasn’t as bad as it could be, having partially sealed when he came back. It was just worse from his flight. “See? I’m fine.”
Bdubs sighed. He shoved the potion into Etho’s hands. “Shut up and drink that. You’re not and you’ll know that in about 15 seconds.”
Etho put the half empty potion bottle down. He eyed the cloth now wet with alcohol. “Don’t you dare put AHDKLAJKL-”
Etho threw his hands out and almost broke the potion. The glass would have shattered in his hand and caused even more of a mess. He covered the cut with his hands and turned away to stare at the floor. He heard Bdubs sigh from behind him. “I barely touched you. You’re being dramatic.”
Etho frowned. “You’re trying to kill me is what you’re doing.”
Bdubs scoffed. “If I didn’t kill you in last life, why would I kill you now? Huh? Yeah, exactly. Drink the damn potion and let me fix you.”
Etho sat up and finished the potion. “Fine, do your worst. Torture me.”
Bdubs mumbled something too quiet for Etho to hear. It was probably best he didn’t. It was probably threats and promises of his death. Etho watched himself slowly become engulfed in the bandaid wrapping. He was sure it was overkill but would rather fight Grian and his army of dogs than say that.
Bdubs brushed off his hands. “There, that was easy. You freaked out for nothing!”
Etho threw his shirt back on, carefully avoiding the wrappings. “You say that when you weren’t the one being manhandled.”
“Oh stop it.” Bdubs held a hand out. Etho grabbed it and pushed himself up. “Let’s go to the shopping district. I need to restock and I’m sure Iskall got plenty of diamonds for you to spend.”
Etho eyed the stack of diamonds in his inventory. Iskall never said he shouldn’t spend their diamonds. They were simply in the chest. His name wasn’t on them. If he spent them on something useful his roommate couldn’t complain. “Sure, let’s go.”

I literally woke up, checked tumblr and was like oh shit...that cliffhanger was terrible and I need to know what happens next!
Anonymous said to redorich: Ther Hermitcraft vs Dreamsmp war really is just gonna be a 2 hour long Dreamsmp cringe moment compilation huh. Also I like what you wrote! That fight fic was EPIC, but I do wonder why tf does Dream want Tommy back rn? I guess to solidify his status? Like, look at me I’m the righteous son! I’ve saved this infant child!
Anonymous said to redorich:
how could you end in a cliffhanger my day is ruined- /j /lh (but in all seriousness, HOLY SHIT DUDE IM SO HYPED UP FOR THIS YOU HAVE NO IDEA - Art Anon (the one who asked if you liked art of your work and such :>)
-------
The dreamon whispers in his mind. He can’t tell which thoughts are his own. His fingers twitch on the handle of his axe, whether he’s faced with friend or foe. Dream wants to be this insidious person he’s become. He can’t remember why he was ever kind.
Tommy, that obnoxious prick. He’s the only one that ever consistently said no to Dream. It infuriates him. He loves it. He wants that again, for someone to tell him no, you’re wrong, you’re being a dick. The dreamon doesn’t like it, but it does like breaking Tommy’s spirit. Dream has to have Tommy back.
In the end, the kid makes it easy on him: he comes to Dream. Philza’s there too, which is a complication, but Dream knows he’s better than Philza. He can kill him if he needs to. Tommy won’t forgive him for it, though. The thought is delicious.
They face each other on the balcony of the HEP tower. Dream killed all the snipers hiding up here. No doubt they’ve respawned.
“They don’t really care about you, Tommy,” Dream smiles indulgently. Stupid child. “They think you’re a novelty. They pity you, because you know blood like I do. Don’t you miss it? These ‘hermit’ assholes-- they go on and on about how everyone is equal, but it’s bullshit. Where’s your admin?”
Philza shifts uncomfortably from his position behind Tommy, swayed by Dream’s rhetoric but unwilling to compromise on his son’s wellbeing. Tommy snarls. He doesn’t know where Xisuma is, but he knows exactly what the admin is doing.
Dream barks out a nasty laugh. “If the hermits really liked you, if your admin really cared, he’d be here. But I’m here, Tommy. I fight alongside my men. Look around. All the death, all the destruction? I did it all for you.”
Dream slithers closer, still smiling. Phil raises his sword minutely, and Dream stops approaching but doesn’t back away.
“I’m your only friend, Tommy. I visited you every day in exile. Remember the trident I gave you? We had good times together.” Dream’s voice grows hard. “Then you lied to me. You turned your back on me. I have been nothing but patient with you. I’ve given you so many second chances. This is your last one. Come back home with me.”
Tommy meets his father’s gaze. He can barely see past the water in his eyes. His breath catches in his throat as he holds his arms up, silently asking Dream for a hug. Tommy needs this, he needs this to happen.
Knowing that he’s won, Dream grins triumphantly. He wraps his arms around the young man, then chokes. Philza meets the possessed man’s shocked gaze over Tommy’s shoulder as blood flows freely down the blade of his sword, seeps into Philza’s palms as he yanks out the sword that he’s buried in Dream’s chest through his son.
“What--” Dream rasps, trying to pull away from Tommy. The boy’s hands around his back are suddenly a vise grip, nails like claws digging into his shoulderblades.
The hermit admin, unseen til now, swoops down with his elytra and shouts in a language that Dream doesn’t understand. The dreamon knows it, though. As the tall, armored admin flicks through debug screens, the floor glows purple with Aurebesh runes. Dream’s skin feels like it’s melting.
The sky goes black, then white. Consciousness returns to Dream in patches. A short woman with flowers in her brown hair is splashing the two of them with healing potions-- Tommy is still holding him up. All at once, the gravity of the situation hits him.
“Hold your fire!” he roars. Half of his men are dead anyway.
He grips desperately at his hair. “Oh God, what have I done?” He feels physically ill. “Tommy, kill me. I only have one canon life, it’ll stick, I deserve it for what I did to you.”
Tommy hears Philza suck in a sharp breath. The man that he once loved like another brother, the man he’d fought wars both with and against, the man who took everything from him, is laid out in his arms and begging for Tommy to take his revenge. It would be so easy. Tommy wouldn’t even need a sword. Technoblade wouldn’t have hesitated, if it was him here instead of Tommy. Even Tubbo would feel enough pity to put Dream out of his misery.
Tommy remembers when he lost his first canon life to Dream in a duel for his nation. He remembers seeing Wilbur’s unstable features light up when Dream gave him eleven and a half stacks of TNT. He remembers exile, and everything that came before it.
Tommy also remembers when False caught him stealing her cobblestone, and she gave him a shulker box full of it. He remembers when Impulse saw Tommy’s war room, and wept for Tommy’s childhood. He remembers the proud look on Grian’s face when they pranked Doc together. He remembers, at every turn, expecting rejection, and receiving kindness.
“No,” he says, and is taken aback by the firmness in his own voice.
Dream’s face twists in an ugly sneer, more inwardly directed than a jab at Tommy. “So that’s what I get, huh? You’re going to leave me alive to suffer?”
“No,” Tommy repeats. “We’re going to fix things. We’ll make them better.”
“That’s impossible,” Dream says incredulously.
Tommy smiles. “Not impossible-- just hard. You’re up for a challenge, yeah? I believe in you.”
The sun sets on dead bodies and rubble. The moon rises with a gleam of hope.

A Genshin Impact Hermitcraft AU Idea, God Help Me
Last year, on September 28, a particular gacha rpg game was released and I, occasionally regrettably, fell straight into playing it. In honour of the fact that this will mean I have lasted nearly a whole year (I got the game a week after bc uni) determinedly not spending any money on Genshin whilst also trying to roll good characters…here’s a bunch of Hermitcraft Genshin AU ideas that I initially came up with at roughly 2.40 am.
The general idea of this AU is that the Hermits end up in a new world that has Genshin-esque mechanics, on top of the usual Minecraft shenanigans. So, Visions and stuff. Also, we’re gonna just…briefly ignore the actual Genshin lore in regards to how Visions and Gnosises (Gnoses?) come about, for this one.
Post-S8, the Hermits are travelling to a new world, ready for another season.
The moment they arrive, it is clear to them all that…something is different. Something is vastly different with this world, for all that it appears much like the previous servers that they have lived in and travelled to. There is something of a…presence to it, in a sense.
When the Something Different doesn’t appear immediately, being the demigods/almost-deities that they are, they go about their days, setting up starter bases, gathering the basic resources and tools, the usual beginnings.
Things change when Doc wakes up one morning after a hard day at work building a new redstone machine, to find a small glowing chess piece lying next to his head, crackling with an ethereal purple light
Upon picking it up, he feels a burst of energy, almost like that one time in the previous world where he and Ren built a lightning-summoning tower
However, the changes it has wrought become apparent later that day when Scar comes out of nowhere with the recording of a creeper’s tell-tale hiss and explosion, and Doc sends him flying backwards with a startled blast of lightning
At first, they chalk it up to ‘Something Funky With Doc’s Current Project’, but after some tests, some experimentation to confirm if it was a one-off reaction…they end up confirming that they may have found out what the Weird Thing about this season’s world is
The duo go to Xisuma with their findings, and, to their collective surprise, X can’t find anything blatantly broken in the server’s code, but he does find a few interesting lines within.
By all appearances, this is not a glitch, but simply an intended feature of the server
Seven lucky hermits, designated as Archons in the server code, will receive a Gnosis, an artefact of elemental power that the server can assign, given to the ‘player who best suits the element’
The server notes speak of how the power granted (and represented through the chess-piece-shaped item) will grant the receiver the capability to shape the land around them
By random chance, other players on the server will also be gifted a Vision, a somewhat lesser artefact that will still grant them a form of elemental power
Given that the Hermits are practically gods in their own right, considering they are already capable of shaping the worlds they arrive in as they see fit…are more curious than worried, at this point
They agree to keep an eye out, to see how chaotic the sudden acquisition of elemental powers will turn out
The next person to receive a Gnosis is Grian, who delights in the bursts of wind he can use to buffer his flight, gliding across the server with naught but the turquoise magic the server has seen fit to grant him
After that, most of the Hermits soon receives some sort of Elemental power from the server
A Summary of Who Gets What (That I can think of so far):
Doc: [Electro Archon]
Can summon lightning, without need for a trident, a thunderstorm, or a machine that can generate an ongoing thunderstorm for as long as its activated
Can also generate an Electro shield, though it does require his active concentration to maintain for longer than a few seconds. This shield appears like a charged creeper’s aura, except purple
Capable of generating a thunderstorm at will, but rarely does it on account of mob spawning dangers
Has found that by channelling a low level of Electro energy, he can in fact power redstone machines just by tapping them/being in close proximity to them
This has proven to both be a blessing and a curse, considering that on occasion, when startled, he has short-circuited some of his machines
Grian: [Anemo Archon]
Generally, uses his powers as a free rocket boost for flying around the server
Upon finding out that he can use the Anemo energy to create pockets of energy that can boost flight, he takes to leaving them all over the server, in convenient locations to make flight that much more efficient
Yes, he absolutely sets up a fancy elytra course that makes use of his flight-boosters to send players rocketing around a course at breakneck paces (poor Scar experiences many instances of kinetic energy)
Bdubs: [Geo Archon]
Suddenly, making mountains and other works of major terraforming is a lot easier
Certainly, he still prefers to sculpt them and detail them by hand, but bringing the basic shape of the mountain forth by brandishing the power of Geo is something that he can do with ease, in this world
A new shop pops up in the shopping district rather quickly after this realisation: Bdub’s Landshaping Service, Now offering quick terraforming at a budget price! (it is, in fact, a service that makes him quite the amount of money)
And when he wants to sleep, without the other hermits breaking his bed? A glowing shield of steadfast golden magic takes care of that.
Gem: [Dendro Archon]
The patch of the server that Gem has claimed for herself quickly springs to life as plants of all varieties grow to surprising proportions, energised by the power that she now can radiate
The effect is most notable in and around her home, of course, but wherever she travels, the plants grow more vibrantly for days afterwards
Adding a forest of birch around her house takes little more than a thought, a fact she uses to prank some of her friends, those who in the last world were rather vocal about their dislike of non-stripped birch
Another power Gem finds herself with is the ability to summon vines even without a surface for them to initially grow upon, and thus it is not uncommon to see Gem building or resting in a hammock of woven vines
Cub: [Cryo] (cannot make up my mind if I think he’d be Archon material or not)
Gathering powdered snow has never been easier, as instead of waiting for a storm to form and last longer than it takes a Hermit to get into the nearest bed, he can simply clap his hands together and a lump of snow shoots out from just above his shoulder.
It does hurt, getting hit by the sudden snow barrage that Cub is now capable of, but except for the occasional snowball fight, his newfound snow-creation ability is used for making increasingly more insane mob farms and snowy building decoration
False: [Pyro]
The magic her Pyro Vision grants her doesn’t become apparent, not for a while, until she visits the Nether for the first time in this world
A mis-swing in a bastion, and suddenly a horde of piglins and hoglins are chasing after her, and there isn’t enough time to pillar away.
She readies her sword and shield, ready to fight, and suddenly her blade crackles to life with bright flames, unlike the fire aspect enchantment in that it actually is on fire.
Every attack she lands, whilst her sword is alight, seems to invigorate her, return strength and stamina that was lost when she had first tried to flee the enraged inhabitants of the bastion
Xisuma:
The admin is one of the few to not receive a Vision or a Gnosis
Quietly, he does admit to being relieved, considering his powers as an admin are already much greater than that of the other Hermits, for all that they are still his equals
And then, one day, whilst X is placing his diamonds to sign up to one of Grian’s newest competitions, he feels a rush of foreign magic, so unlike the familiar ordered pulses of server code
The blast of wind that comes with a swing of his sword, much later whilst he is mob-farming, is greatly surprising, if not unexpected.
The funny thing about all these new powers, granted by the server itself in the form of artefacts that can easily sit in one’s palm, is that for all they are miraculous on their own, the natural capabilities of the Hermits are already enough to rival them
In the hands of an ordinary person, an ordinary player, the powers from this world would bring them close to the near-omnipotence of Creative, could even be the driving force of server-wide conflict.
Powers such as these, while they can build great things, can so easily be used to destroy, to cause war and destruction, and in other realities, they have.
Perhaps whatever trick of fate that caused the server to be capable of granting these powers hoped to create that conflict, to see what would happen when only a few of their number were gifted such strengths.
Later, when the initial surprise and rush to test out the limits of the server’s granted magics dies down, Zedaph approaches Xisuma, one of the few to not possess an artefact of elemental magic, with an observation
Zedaph notes that, from his studies of the Hermits’ new powers, almost all of them are oriented vastly towards combat, whether they be summonable blades of frost, elemental shields, or even the ability to soothe aches and hurts
And even though the Hermits have all found ways to make those powers work in the ways that they wish them to, it does not take away from the fact that the likeliest original purpose of this server’s magic was for fighting
Any other server, any other group, Zedaph quietly says, and there would more than likely have been bloodshed, given the inequality in the range of power granted
At the end of the day however, unexpected gifts of power or not, the Hermits, at their core, are a group that creates and innovates, a band of friends that shape entire worlds with naught but their own ideas and willpower, and regardless of what powers they now possess in this particular realm, that will not change.

My thoughts on the MCC games
So my mind is still dwelling on MCC. Damn, I loved it.
I thought I’d share my thoughts about each game! (Note: I always watch Tommy for MCC.)
Big Sales at Build Mart. It’s alright. I think it’s good as an early game - I enjoyed that it was first this MCC, allowing the teams to get used to each other and it didn’t matter too much in points. Whereas I kinda dislike it late game - it’s not one I want to be high pressure. In some respects its a lot more chill as you’re less directly competing against others and more working together to build something. It still feels tense and as a viewing experience its alright but painful to see streamers making mistakes which they inevitably do as its so high pressure. The changes of getting rid of the boats was so, so good. Losing Buildmart before was often because you failed a turn and lose so much progress which was way too devastating. much easier to navigate now too. (I didn’t like how in one build Tommy couldn’t see a block properly under glass, but usually the builds are very nice.
Hole in the wall - this one I’ve always really enjoyed watching. It’s a fun game with a great level of difficulty. Tommy’s pretty good at this one too and I like that he has a real habit of messing around in it. This game is the one where Wilbur lost his voice in MC11 after too much shouting. In MCC13 it was singing christmas songs. Something about it just makes everyone want to mess around. I like how although its mostly a solo game, team communication is useful ust shouting out colours and shouting out warnings. I saw Vikkstar being warned about approaching walls before they killed him a couple times by his teammates for instance and I like that. (Contrast ace race where its so hard to give much meaningful advice.) That said, the game is extremely glitchy! Hbomb demonstrated it this round but people have always been sliding through walls plus players with higher ping get an advantage. I would understand if they wanted to shelf it. I think it’d be hard to fix - 40 players in one area with moving slime walls will be so hard to handle. I wonder if they could have 10 separate maps instead or something to make it more feasible to play as I’ll be sad if it has to go.
Skybattle - really really fun from Tommy’s perspective! You can tell he loves it so I love it too. Rounds kinda have a tendency to all end the same way with little bridges towards the centre, might be cool if there was some existing narrow walkways to the middle as well and maybe new maps though I do like the current map as well! Hah, but yeah I love it! It’d probably be too much played too late but its the absolute perfect mid round game and every MCC there’s always really cool exciting plays. Its really fast-paced which sets it apart.
Survival Games - it’s a classic. probably a little frustrating points wise as its a single round meaning an early death is so costly. survival points in this one are worth so much. I seriously enjoy it though it is not one you want too late in the tournament. Also a good opener as its not too intense from the start, even if it gets pretty intense as the map shrinks. The maps for these games are always awesome and well-designed. (I think puffy might have fallen in an inescapable hole though? She was getting attacked at the time so maybe it was escapable but yeah - careful playtesting is important to make sure no spots like those exist. Which is hopefully the case!)
Ace race - I greatly enjoy this game. Tommy’s generally surprisingly good at it which helps. It just seems like a really fun minigame to play. Obviously this MCC the map had some errors and was maybe too confusing. The map was long and every moment had something new to process, a chiller section or two where you can observe and take it in a bit more would have been nice. It is a little fiddly with a lot of different mechanics leading to glitches. Tridents are just annoying! But its one thats a good time. I only dislike how its so much a solo experience - you can try and give advice to your team but its so hard to give useful input unless you’re right by your teammate. I quite enjoy this one being fairly late game as its exciting but not so harsh as the elimination games.
Battle Box: very cool game assuming the map’s fun! (Some MCCs had ones I didn’t care for.) And they remember to never ever give any players TNT ever again. There’s a bunch of tactics to employ, custom items, flanking. It’s just a really nice strategic mini-game. I like how its lots of ranged combat and there’s enough rounds that you don’t feel too bad about a mistake. It’s good anywhere in the tournament. Glad it got added to the practice server as its a lot of fun to watch streamers just play. Though they don’t ever practise the wool rushing tactics on there. xD Shame Tommy’s not built for this game though.
TGTTOS: I love this game! Lots of fun to watch and its kinda solo but also you can help your team and work together with some effort. Hmmm... though some of the individual maps for this game can be very hit-or-miss. I think generally you want like at least 80% of players to complete the map. A few of them have been too long and hard. Lots of punching goes on in this game and I kinda don’t mind. The one with the wool targets was probably a little too confusing. I like most of the original maps for this game aside form the cliffside punching one though I understand the same maps every time would be bad. Rocket jumping seems kinda finicky so I’m not a fan. Tridents, elytras, ice, and bridging are all great fun though and I do enjoy the variety. Again its good anywhere in the tournament!
Parkour Tag - Not a fan. I like it in concept I guess but aah the scoring is annoying. It gives you points for survival which is so dependent on the person hunting you and it feels like there’s strategy about choosing the hunter for each opponent but in reality there’s not. I kinda wish the same person could be the hunter every round just so one person has that role. The maps have never felt that fun as it generally feels like scrambling around. Also this game rarely shifts the scores much at all, the ways points are awarded is just too strange. Maybe a bigger map and longer rounds? I don’t know though. This game is terrible as an end game and I guess its okay earlier. Yeah, I really wish there was a good parkour type game but this one isn’t it for me. (this is still much better than Parkour warrior mind!)
Rocket Spleef - Alright. I feel like this is one that’s hard on new players as rocket jumping is odd - getting kills in this game is also not easy. Hopefully they practice the mechanics on the practice server. That said I do enjoy this one quite a bit, it’s fun to watch. The deal breaker is the map. Some maps are just way better than others. I think by the end of a round the maps should be pretty much destroyed and I think it’d be awesome if rounds ended with only one or two people left alive. As long as its got a good map though it’s plenty of fun! It’s exciting without being really intense or high pressure and three rounds is a good amount. Good anywhere in the tournament.
Bingo But Fast - I don’t know how I feel about this one. Please don’t do it the nether again, that was too much. xD I think this game is too intense for me - it’s really fast-paced as completions start happening right away and earlier ones are worth more points. Also it’s another that is stressful to watch the streamer play non-optimally. That said it is an interesting game and I think its cool to have a mode like survival minecraft - generally I like how many games highlight different fun activities in minecraft. It’s such a varied tournament! Again I like this one best mid-tournament, not too late or too early. Maybe I’d like it a bit more without the locking out. like after the first five completions, the remaining completions of it still get a few points - a fixed amount. This is an interesting game but it’s also a really hard game!
Sands of Time - This one is pretty awesome. A lot of fun to watch even if its so so painful for a streamer to lose.  Nice dungeon crawler feel, with cool maps and exciting traps. The vaults matter a lot to points. I like how less confident players can do safer stuff and its a very team-oriented game in the best possible way. As you don’t know how the other teams are doing it gets pretty intense and works well as a last game. Some traps are a bit annoying and I think ones requiring a second player are cool in concept but a bit too demanding. Also please please never make it out of snow again. People kept missing the snow! That was painful. Tommy’s interesting to watch and has successfully solved some risky traps even if he sometimes makes poor decisions xD
Damn this turned out long! Listen, I love this event. All the games are delightfully unique and challenging and fun to watch. These are just my personal opinions. This is such a well-made and impressive tournament with such a great variety of games testing different things.
Feel free to argue with me about any of these. Sorry parkour tags fans. xD

I'm doing this again: messy thoguhts while I watch MCC 10 from Techno's POV
Overall thoughts:
- I want to rewatch that Sky Battle, it was SO GOOD
- I need to watch Pete’s POV, maybe a few pieces of Wilbur’s
- The team was so good together, Eret is probably Techno’s biggest fan, Techno is so nice to Niki <3
Pregame: Techno thinks they are destined for 4th place. Eret thinks they can win. Techno doesn't want to put on matching skins because "once you do, your lose is guaranteed" (but he is being peer pressured) Techno: Niki, have you seen footage of Ace Race? Niki: Which one is that one? Techno: It's the one where you race They all have crowns! (Except Philza but he is a king nontheless) Techno is starting his stream now "Your score goes down at least 15% when you're wearing matching skins because the universe knows you're having too much fun so it wants to put you in your place" 1 - Bingo Techno's team doing good in Bingo makes sense: PHILZA MINECRAFT IS THERE Techno did great in bingo but they split the points so he is 17th hahahahahaha poor techno, he even memorized recipes and everything 2 - Parkour Techno actually trained for parkour this time! Hate this punching map Haha Techno killed Tommy and Will killed Philza hahaha SBI killing spree The Antarctic Empire trained Techno for the ice boat map (Philza used his elytra too much, that's why he couldn't complete it) Techno is too good at placing blocks while falling!! Also he got saved by someone punching him hahah TECHNOBLADE NEVER DIES 1st place!!! Top 4 players this game: Dream Techno Quig Sapnap yep I can see why
Techno math to see why Dream is ahead of him haha TECHNOMATH
4 - Sky Battle Uno Reverse is Confusing "Who here can bridge without falling" (No answer, they are all thinking the same: YOU, Techno, you can bridge) Round 1 The simmers are being killed by Aqua :( oh and lime TapL v Techno in sky battle yeaaah Ooh Techno is too good!! TNT plays!! Round 2 Techno aaking where Philza is for backup, he did the same with Calvin last time Dream got Philza and Eret Techno is TOO GOOD THE PEARL CLUTCH???? Round 3 Niki falling every round :( Them going to the simmers immediately, poor simmers they are getting bullied THE PLAYS HE KILLED THE GREEN TEAM WITH CREEPERS WHAT A GENIUS BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD I WANT TO REWATCH THIS ROUND 100 TIMES THIS WAS AMAZING "2nd Place WHERE ARE YOUR PARKOUR POINTS NOW, DRE?" - Audience takeover Techno is losing this one, but battle box also works for them "Skywars.. sorry sky Battle... sky skirmishes" that is such a better name, Noxcrew change it to that "yall practice parkour don't act like you enjoy fun" - sick burn Techno I don't really enjoy dream hating on techno all the time... we're past it dream, please stop. I 100% support Techno ranting about that "I like Dre, I want to subscribe to Dre's youtube channel" (Dream’s name is cut off in the tab) 5 - Battle Box The power ups are veggies hahahah I saw it on the update video "There is a potato, I'm gonna farm!" No power ups... (the veggies don't work) Viewer team 1 DESTROYED Philza with the 3 kills against the undefeated team Cyan! Go Philza Minecraft! Now Dre. Dream really wanted Techno dead, I'm pretty sure it cost him the game. This team is TOO STRONG, THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP you can’t compete with that Dre!!! Aqua team DESTROYED, PEPE CAPE Techno got Pete when he was at 1 heart against 6??? Techno is invinscible after the duel!! "Who needs health when you don't get hit?" Techno killed by the viewer?? Invisible viewers?? Weird round against the viewers

"There are two types of victory: You can beat the players or your can bear the makers of the game. On that day, we did both" Techno knows wood names now?? Who is this person? Bad organizarion at first but now they are oganizing yes Niki is lost Oh they are actually communicating this is better They are kinda slow though, and not oragnized enough. Bug with magenta blog nooo Techno is really terrible at this game -end of games- Top 4: Quig Techno Dream Pete Look at Techno having good sportmanship, being nice to Dream, Quig, George....  Green and Orange to Dodgebolt! The End is Near
As of writing this, I’m still alive. Unfortunately, my partner in demise crime @plcklesontheseafloor was shot down within the first ten minutes of joining demise.
Doesn’t stop us from solving crimes with whatever braincells we haven’t thrown into the void, dead or alive the Ender enders stick together!
This isn’t a hit, just two buddy cops from the 80s tryin to vibe.
Warning: violence and death mentioned, explosions, crime scene and general demise stuff
Avon shutters, feeling Exnoh hover over her shoulder. Their demised body practically saps heat from Avon’s living form, searching for warmth to fill what was lost when they took their final breath. Avon’s got a few hits on her as well, wound healing from the arrow shot in her chest and the broken bones from falling. Or was she pushed? She can’t really remember. Her mind still remembers the near death experience she faced, just narrowly avoiding death within the nether.
Avon’s crouching, searching for the pulse of the person at their feet. The duo discovered the demised person, and being the detectives they are have to find out how they got here. Who took them out, and if they’re still close by. Avon has to watch her back, keep her wings close to her body to look over her shoulder. She can trust Exnoh, even though her body creeps at the chilled grey of the once voluminous purple hair.
“It appears they died.” Avon states, setting down the wrist when she can no longer find a pulse. They’ll wake up demised soon, whoever they were. Exnoh can already see the grey starting to seep across their skin, crawling from the final blow dealt to them.
“Yeah, no shit.” Exnoh huffs, standing upright and stretching her arms. The thin air of the end feels good to be in, even though they know it’s not safe to be out here. Avon may be able to ease off the ender dragon from attacking them, but nothing will stop the horde of dead with their weapons drawn and traps set. “How very astute of you.”
Avon chuckles, looking through the pockets of the dead. “Let’s figure out how, at least.” Avon feels something metallic brush against her fingers, and her brows furrow. She pulls the statue free from the pocket.
“A totem? Why didn’t they use it?” Exnoh questions. They watch as Avon pulls free potions of regeneration, golden apples, a whole treasure trove of supplies to keep this poor sap alive.
“I don’t think they were prepared to die, at least, not in the way they did. They were ready for a fight.” Avon stands up as she kicks a diamond sword to the side, pulling out her own trident and gazing around the End. Searching the static sky for someone watching them back.
“A trap, then.” Exnoh whispers, taking their turn to look at the demised person. She notices a streak of grey, among all the rest of the grey tone. Almost impossible to see against the grey skin of death, but he runs his finger across the streak, and raises it to their nose. “Gunpowder. Someone used TNT.”
“We got a redstone engineer on us then.” Avon shakes her head, running a hand through her hair. She doesn’t understand redstone- she can’t even get a lever to open a door right. This was more Exnoh’s branch. “Let’s just get a bucket of water and douse the whole area, that’ll take care of it.”
“Some traps can be triggered by destroying the dust.” Exnoh warns, pulling her coat closer to his shoulders. No matter how hard she tries, she can’t get warm. “We gotta be careful if we try to disarm anything.”
“Alright, detective Exnoh. Let’s look around.” Avon opens her wings, and does just that. While Exnoh traverses the yellow endstone, digging into the sharp, dried claylike material of the lost islands, Avon flies above. Careful not to put herself in danger by flying into something, or into the line of a crossbow. At least she doesn’t have to worry about an elytra- her wings are hers. Exnoh at least has the peace to not have to worry, sauntering with lanky limbs she inherited from her endermen side. They adjust their belt, missing the golden color of the metal wrap. Life was fun while it lasted- hopefully he can feel warmth again some day.
Exnoh watches as Avon lands, wind buffeting her hair and throwing his coat back. She shakes her head, showing that she saw nothing. “We checked everywhere, and no sign of any traps. Do you think they set off the only one?”
The demised enderman-human taps a finger on their chin. “We didn’t check one place.”
Avon follows her gaze to the demised. She bites her lip. “How fast would an observer be able to send a signal?”
“Depends on the engineer. Some can be instant, some take time.” Exnoh steps forward to take the chance, but Avon’s already doing it. Even though Exnoh is already demised, Avon can’t let another friend get hurt again.
An observer lights up, and Avon can hear redstone send the pulse down along the endstone. But she’s not worried. Avon rises to her feet, flourishing her trident and sheathing it between her shoulder blades and wings. “Let’s get out of here. They’re gonna have to try a little harder to end the Ender enders.”
Exnoh grins, though his smile is hidden behind the respirator mask she wears. The two clasp hands, cold demised skin meeting with warmblood, and the two embrace in a half hug, their braced arms between them. Their alliance may have been quick and forged minutes before the death of one, but it’ll take more than death to stop them.
The pair walk away from the redstone trap, hearing the pulse reach it’s destination but not concerned enough to turn around. Orange and yellow blossoms behind them, illuminating the darkness of the endless sky, the void without a celestial body to light it up. The explosion outwards ruffles Exnoh’s long hair, and catches on Avon’s black wings. But they don’t look back.
Cool guys don’t look at explosions.

“Hey, Metalhead.”
Biffa jumped at the address and looked around. He almost activated his mask to cover his face, but at the last minute, he remembered that he was actually wearing a ratty Black Sabbath hoodie.
Crowds of people were passing through the subway without paying any attention to the cyborg resting against the vertical beam. The person who had spoken to Biffa was leaning against the other side of the steel beam.
“I know what you are, and I know people who can help. If you come quietly, everything will be okay.”
Scratch that, he definitely knew who Biffa was. His mask slipped over his face, visor opaque from the outside, but still tinting the cyborg’s vision yellow. Biffa stood up and leaned around the support beam to look at who was talking to him.
The man in question would have looked fairly unremarkable if he hadn’t been wearing a cowboy in a subway station. He had a couple of scars on his face and was literally wearing cowboy boots. When he finally got a good look at Biffa's mask, he cocked his head a bit to the side.
"Alright then, do we have a deal?" The Cowboy offered the cyborg his right hand.
Biffa took the Cowboy's hand with his right, and pressed the palm of his left hand into the Cowboy's chest and activated the built-in taser.
Cowboy crumpled to the ground immediately and Biffa sprinted out of the subway station as fast as metal legs would carry him. Though, he didn't make it far before someone else dropped out of the sky and landed in the street in front of him.
The new person was only wearing a lab coat and pants, but he was also wielding a trident. The clouds were dark and thunder was rolling in the distance, so fighting someone with a trident was the last thing Biffa wanted to do right now.
The creeper cyborg pointed his trident at Biffa.
“This is your last chance to end this peacefully.”
Biffa drew his standard sword in reply. He almost thought that the other cyborg looked entertained by the challenge.
The creeper man drew back his trident and threw it at Biffa. The gray cyborg knocked it out of the air with the blade of his sword. He was surprised when the plasma didn't cut directly through the trident. He quickly realized why that was when the three-pronged weapon flew back to its wielder.
Biffa tried to get close to stop him from throwing the trident but was forced to back off then the cyborg tried to smack him with the butt-end of it. Seeing an opportunity, he lunged forward and pulled Creeper towards him. Biffa pressed dropped his sword and pressed his free hand against Creeper’s right arm and activated the taser.
Instead of keeling over like he should have, Creeper’s whole arm went limp and he nearly dropped the trident. With his arm that still worked, he swung wildly at Biffa. The gray cyborg backed off, still eye the hilt of his sword on the ground. With no connection to Biffa’s power source, the blade had disappeared.
Creeper followed Biffa’s head and noticed the hilt on the ground as well. Before either of them could move they both turned towards the sound of firework rockets coming from farther down the street.
Biffa didn’t manage to fully process what was happening before he was bowled over by Cowboy on a pair of elytra. The scarred man managed to stay on his feet and stopped in a way that couldn't be good for the treads of his boots.
Biffa slammed into the wall of a brick building. As the cyborg got to his feet, Cowboy pulled out his own trident.
Biffa looked around for his standard sword. Creeper had kicked the hilt farther down the street.
The gray cyborg hesitated for a moment before pulling the non-standard sword. When this one sparked to life, it glowed yellow instead of blue, unlike other sword.
Before he could do anything, Cowboy threw his trident and pinned Biffa's arm to the wall. The prongs of the weapon were on either side of his left wrist.
He grabbed the base of the trident's prong with his free hand and tried to pull it out of the wall.
Another trident flew into the wall, pinning Biffa's other wrist as well. The prongs surrounded his wrist again, but one of them cut through the cyborg's left wrist, causing him to drop the sword hilt.
Biffa struggled against the trident's for a few seconds, until he stopped. He was pinned and he couldn't get the leverage needed to pull the weapons out of the wall. He was trapped at the mercy of Cowboy and Creeper.
Cowboy was currently talking to Creeper in a low voice and neither of them were taking their eyes off Biffa. The scarred man was poking at the cyborg's arm, but Creeper just told him not to worry and that someone named Iskall would help him with it later.
The gray cyborg bet that Cowboy had thrown both tridents since Creeper's dominant hand seemed to be the one he's lost control of. Cowboy pulled out a black box that Biffa recognized as a communicator and spoke into it softly.
A normal person wouldn't have been able to make out the words, but the gray cyborg could hear him just fine.
"They're restrained right now and should before a while. Bring in Keralis."
Cowboy slipped the communicator back into his inventory and spoke directly to Biffa. "A negotiator will be here in a few minutes."
Biffa cocked his head and spoke, but with his face mask on, he couldn't move his jaw, so what he wanted to say was instead delivered by a text to speech voice.
"Keralis?"
Cowboy's eyes went wide, and Creeper's narrowed. Before Cowboy could say anything, Creeper cut him off.
"You could hear what Scar was saying into the communicator, don't play smart."
Biffa narrowed his eyes under the faceplate. "How did you know I was listening?"
"Your ears moved." Creeper lifted his left hand and gestured to the area behind his own ear.
When Biffa’s face mask was on, antenna extended from the back of where his ears would have been. They moved on their own to help him emote. Right now, Biffa was silently cursing their existence.
An unmarked black van drove up the street and stopped beside Cowboy and Creeper. A few people piled out of it and began directing civilians and traffic.
The people varied from someone who appeared to be made entirely of blue slime, to a person with dog ears and a tail, and someone with a tufted tail wearing a full suit of metal armor.
The person who walked over to Cowboy and Creeper was fairly standard looking compared to literally anyone else who had just climbed out of the van. He was wearing a cabbie hat, a zipper jacket, and sweatpants. He looked like he’d just rolled out of bed and thrown on the first things he could find.
He very well might have since it was 6:05 in the morning. Still, his eyes were wide and bright, even if Biffa couldn’t really tell what color they were.
The new person motioned towards Biffa with his eyes and Cowboy nodded silently.
Almost instantly a smile broke onto his face and he turned to Biffa.
"Hi! It's nice to meet you! My name is Keralis and I'm going to be your negotiator today!"
Biffa just narrowed his eyes, knowing his antennae would translate the expression.
Keralis didn't seem to notice it though, and if he did, he just ignored it.
"I need to ask you a few questions first. Do you know who I am?"
Biffa couldn't tell if Keralis was playing dumb or just really stupid. "You're just told me that you're Keralis."
The "negotiator" genuinely looked surprised and Biffa was certain that he was just that dumb.
"Oh right, I did! Well since you already know mine, what's your name?"
The cyborg hesitated for a split second before saying, "Biffa."
"A wonderful name! Absolutely amazing!" Keralis literally bounced in place as he complimented Biffa. "Do you know where we are?"
The gray cyborg genuinely had to stop for a moment. He didn't know the name of the city.
His antennae must have been doing something, because Keralis tilted his head at Biffa's silence.
"It's okay if you don't know. Right now, we're in Hermitville. Do you know who those two are?"
Keralis pointed backwards at Cowboy and Creeper.
After a moment of thinking, Biffa said, "The one with the hat is Scar. I don't know who the creeper is."
Now that Biffa was looking, the hat was less a cowboy hat and more an Indiana Jones hat. It was just easier to call Scar Cowboy than Indiana Jones.
"Correct! And the creeper cyborg is Doc. Now one more question. What color are my eyes? You can look if you need too."
The question confused Biffa for a moment, but he chalked it up as one of Keralis's eccentricities.
The gray cyborg looked into Keralis's eyes and his vision tunneled. He couldn’t feel his fingers or breath. All he could see was Keralis’s eyes. He couldn’t look away. Biffa’s vision went white. He still didn’t know what color Keralis’s eyes were.
---
Keralis watched the tension finally leave Biffa’s frame as the hypnosis set in. He turned back to Doc and Scar.
“You should be good to free him now.”
Scar nodded and bounded over to Biffa. He picked up the sword hilt that the cyborg had dropped before working on freeing Biffa. The builder had to brace himself against the wall with his foot in order to remove the tridents.
When the weapon finally slid out of the cyborg’s wrist, it sparked sadly and Biffa’s hand moved slightly.
Doc joined Scar beside Biffa and carefully lifted the gray cyborg’s wrist, looking at the mechanisms and moving parts revealed by the injury.
“I think I can fix this, but I’ll have to fix myself first.” The creeper cyborg let go of Biffa’s wrist, turned around, and whistled loudly. “Pack it up, everyone! We’re going back to base.”
There was a bit of sarcastic complaining from Ren, but everyone piled into the van fairly quickly. Jevin, Wels, and Ren sat in the back triple seat. Scar was driving with Doc in the passenger seat.
“Follow me, Biffa.” Keralis climbed in through the open door of the van and sat down on the far side of the vehicle, leaving Biffa the seat closest to him. “Sit in the seat and buckle the seat belt.”
The cyborg followed the instructions without hesitation. After he’d sat down, Keralis reached over Biffa and slid the door closed. The cyborg stared straight ahead as Doc had to explain to Scar how to drive.
Doc normally drove, but with only one functional arm, Scar wouldn’t let him. A few minutes later, Ren had had enough of their bickering and climbed over the divider separating the front of the car from the back. He forced Scar out of the driver’s seat and made the builder sit in the back row. Wels silently handed Scar the sword hilt that Biffa has dropped while fighting Doc.
With their seats now finalized, Ren started the van and the seven of them set off towards Area 77.

Supposed To Be
a oneshot I wrote for Beyond the Border, which is an incredible fic by @turboniumaly. If you haven’t read it yet, go read it! The concept is amazing, it’s both heartwarming and soul-crushing, and I highly recommend it!!!
Summary (and spoilers, go read BtB first) under the cut!
This takes place just after Chapter Eight and it’s just my take on the idea of Zed discovering Impulse’s death. Genre is mostly angst. Enjoy!
The cool air of Impulse’s cliffside home was a welcome change from the oppressively hot atmosphere of the Nether.
Zedaph blinked the last violet portal particles from his eyes and stretched his arms high over his head. He’d been gathering quartz in the Nether almost all day. The routine of explore-a-bit, mine-a-bunch, explore-a-bit, mine-a-bunch, and so on, was just repetitive enough to be soothing and with just enough variety to keep his mind from wandering to the dark topics that were so common of late.
He yawned and gave the familiar house a quick once-over. Since the first border-related death, he’d been crashing at Impulse’s place. Like many of the hermits suddenly taking up residence in their friends’ homes, the idea of being alone in one’s house was quite alarming nowadays.
Kind of like how he appeared to be alone right now.
“Impulse?” Zed called hesitantly. He wandered through the quiet house, but there was no sign of his friend. The house was oddly, hauntingly empty.
That was strange. Impulse was always home by now, tinkering with his farms and drawing up blueprints of new contraptions. He always managed to keep up a lively conversation with Zed, despite the everlasting exhaustion that had accompanied him since Xisuma’s death.
Zedaph felt the backs of his long, elfin ears prickle with dread. His ears were never wrong, no matter how much he wished they were.
His first instinct was to check the player list on his phone -- but something stopped him. It took him a moment to realize it was fear. He was afraid of what the list, in all its stark and impermeable truth, would tell him.
He scoffed at himself. Of course Impulse would be online. The stress and panic of the past few weeks was making him paranoid, that was all.
Still, when he found himself sliding the phone back into his pocket, he couldn’t bring himself to pull it back out.
Well, that was fine. He’d just have to find him manually. Maybe he was working on some expansions for iTrade and lost track of time. It wouldn’t be the first time he’d forgotten to come home or sleep because he was so deeply invested in a project.
Satisfied with his own theory, Zedaph checked his elytra and patted the pocket where he kept rockets for flying. Without another moment’s dallying, he shot out the front door and into the sky.
It only took him a few minutes to fly the distance to iTrade. He glided to a stop on the path leading into the store.
To his surprise and subsequent confusion, there was someone outside the building already.
Doc circled it slowly, almost thoughtfully, brushing one hand along its smooth wooden walls and gleaming quartz pillars. In his other hand, he clutched his trademark trident. He was rolling the handle over and over in his palm, which almost always meant he was anxious, with either excitement or distress.
Zed frowned. That was . . . odd. Now suspicion grew over his previous confusion. What was Doc doing here, circling the building so weirdly?
He decided confrontation was his best course of action and approached iTrade at a brisk trot.
“Hey, Doc! What--”
He broke off abruptly as Doc whirled with a snarl, trident raised to attack.
Zedaph took an instinctive step back, trying to quell the thrill of fear that pierced his chest. They’d all been pretty jumpy since Xisuma’s death.
But upon recognizing him, Doc took a step back, lowering the trident.
And then, to Zed’s disbelief and shock, he shot him one brief, uncharacteristically scared glance and leapt into the sky. The loud rapport of rockets firing filled the night air for a moment, and then there was silence.
Once again, Zedaph was alone.
Thoughts whirling crazily, he entered the store. As he’d expected, but dreaded, Impulse was nowhere to be found. He walked back out numbly, in a daze.
He’d never seen Doc of all people so . . . terrified. Stressed, yes. Shocked, yes. Even occasionally nervous. But truly, gut-wrenchingly afraid?
Yes, something was very, very wrong.
He wasn’t anywhere in the shopping district.
Zed was beginning to feel quite concerned.
Eventually, his curiosity began to overwhelm his fear. Something was deeply, horribly wrong, that he knew. From Impulse’s initial absence, to Doc’s strange behavior, to the cold tingle in his ears. The entire world felt like a familiar song played just-slightly off-key. And while he was more than a little scared of what that something might be, he had to know.
After several internal pep-talks, and quite a few false starts, he managed to pull his phone out.
Turn the screen on.
Tap the player list.
The player list was open.
Look at the player list.
Look at the player list.
Look at the player list.
Xisuma and Cub -- still nowhere to be found on the list. Scar was still online, which relieved him somewhat. Zed’d been worried about him since he’d locked himself in CherryCare.
Tango -- still online. Still alive. He allowed himself a small sigh of relief.
Zedaph scrolled back up to the top and went down the list carefully, looking for Impulse. iJevin, Iskall85--
Wait, no.
No.
No, where was he?
Ignoring his building panic, he slowly scrolled through the entire list, muttering each name aloud.
But Impulse, his name normally sandwiched between iJevin and Iskall85, was nowhere to be found.
No, no, no.
His blood ran cold. There was a black icicle in his heart.
That couldn’t be right. They had promised to stick together! To be there for each other!
With Tango so busy deciphering Xisuma’s death - he didn’t have anyone else - Impulse was all he had left. He couldn’t be dead, he couldn’t be dead, he couldn’t be dead.
Zedaph realized he was hyperventilating and gasped for air. It came back out as a choked sob. Each breath felt like it was edged with thorns.
It wasn’t fair - Impulse had promised - “I’m not going anywhere near the border, Zed. We’re gonna get through this. The three of us. I promise.” - it was supposed to be the three of them, always.
He swiped the tears from his cheeks and stood upright -- when had he fallen down? -- on shaky legs.
He had to get outside, had to get the others, had to find Impulse -- because of course he wasn’t dead, he couldn’t be!
Zed stumbled outside, struggling to breathe around the stuttering sobs that choked his throat and wracked his entire frame.
There were two people approaching.
One was tall, blonde, dressed in red, familiar -- it was Tango, thank god it was Tango. He wasn’t alone, he still had Tango - the demon would help him of course, and they’d find Impulse and the three of them would be together again.
Oddly enough, Tango was grasping a sword loosely in one hand. The blade was lit only by the faraway lights of the surrounding buildings and much farther-away light of the moon and stars, and Zed couldn’t make out the details. Yet something about it only amplified that off-key feeling.
There was still something so horribly wrong.
Tango and -- Iskall, he realized belatedly, it was Iskall -- both wore the same tired, broken expression.
They both carried the same terrible, terrible knowledge in their downcast eyes.
More than knowledge, it was news -- awful, heavy news that would feel like a dozen anvils falling on Zedaph’s shoulders -- somehow he knew this with absolute certainty, for his ears were never wrong--
For a long, excruciating moment, they just stared at each other. The sobs had slowed, but tears still silently rolled down Zed’s cheeks, and Tango’s scarlet eyes were beginning to glisten, and finally Iskall broke the silence with a bruised, haunted voice.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I’m so, so sorry.”
Zedaph stared at him, trying and failing to say something, anything, to deny the sentence Iskall was about to say next.
“He’s dead,” he choked out, and now he was beginning to cry as well. “Impulse is dead.”
And hearing it, hearing that he - that Impulse - was really, truly, absolutely dead, felt like being crushed by weighty gravel and being submerged in searing lava and being impaled right in the heart by a malevolent blade.
Zedaph let out one long, agonized wail, and sank to the floor. Suddenly, Tango was there, wrapping his arms around him and offering him the comfort of physical contact. It was the only comfort they had left.
And as Zed sat there, crying violently into his best friend’s chest and feeling said friend shudder with his own sobs, he could only think one thing. The thought spiraled around and around in his head, repeating until it was an unstoppable mantra and echoed endlessly in his head.
Us three, it was supposed to be three - it was supposed to be three - it was supposed to be three - it was supposed to be three -

Tree of Life Pt. 3.5
I wrote this as a special thing for Tumblr, just because I felt like it. It’s not one of the original 5 parts, hence the 3.5
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 (1) Part 5 (2)
Fair warning: you’re probably going to be mad at me, but I’ll be posting the last parts right after so...
TW: character death, killed by another character
There was nothing but ocean for miles around the group of boats. It would be faster to go by elytra, but no one wanted to get separated and lost because they're too fast and bad with coordinates and then crash into the ocean and drown.
So the group rowed along, skimming the ocean surface heading to their unknown location from the coordinates they had found.
"There's an island up ahead!" Iskall yelled, pausing to point at the landmass. Tango scanned against the harsh sunlight, glad that his demonic eyes weren't as affected by harsh light as the other humans' were.
One of the good things about being from the Nether, he thought to himself. Thinking of the Nether he was technically born in, there was a weird feeling that arose in his chest. He ignored it, not caring about that, whatever it was, as he had learned long ago that not being human meant literally nothing to anyone but himself.
"Should we rest there for a while?" Stress asked, sounding rather exhausted herself.
"I second that," Ren groaned loudly.
"Alright guys, let's take a break," Xisuma called. Tango frowned at how tense the admin sounded. Yes, he was server admin, but was he really the leader here? He was never really too outgoing, preferring to keep to himself and watch everyone else go crazy. While yes, he probably had a brain cell or two more than the rest of the whitelist, this entire situation was pushing everyone to their emotional and mental limits.
I could dispatch them. Have a little fun before putting them out of their misery.
Tango lurched at his own thought that didn't even seem like his own.
"What did I just think? Oh my god, no no," he whispered to himself in shock. How would that help at all?! Where did that come from?! I-I couldn't kill them...
"You alright there, Tango?" Doc asked. Tango stiffly nodded, still not quite out of his head. He had stopped rowing and was coasting, losing speed as the quiet Impulse stopped for his friend.
"Come on, Tango. Let's get to land," the dark-haired human encouraged. He hadn't raised his voice above a quiet breath since Zedaph died. Tango had been shocked as well, but if Impulse was hurting and Zed was gone... someone had to be the strong one and take the blows for Team ZIT. Interestingly enough, while he had shed some blood, there was a strange thrill to it that also scared Tango. Seeing ruby red zombie blood mixed with his own onyx black... there wasn't supposed to be any satisfaction in killing.
But blood is such a pretty color... red like netherrack, black like the void... Tango's thoughts continued after that, but he was not registering them anymore. His actual mind had gone blank, with a small question in the back wondering what was going on brushed into the cobwebs of old memories. Now there was only a feeling. The feeling Tango had felt before in the boats. An instinct, if you will. One that pushed aside Tango and replaced him with a single thought.
Kill.
——————
"Tango? Are you alright?" Impulse asked warily. Something was wrong. Tango had stopped moving, standing like a statue on the beach they had landed on. A wide smile had grown on his face and his ruby red eyes were bright but unseeing.
"Tango...?"
Suddenly the demon man lunged, enchanted diamond sword appearing in hand out of nowhere. Impulse yelled as he jumped out of the way and the other hermits immediately turned to see what the commotion was.
"The heck, Tango?" Iskall demanded, readying his own sword confidently to face off.
Tango didn't reply. That malicious smile was still on his face, showing off his fanged canines and slightly pointed teeth. He glanced around, sword still in hand, and Impulse noticed with a sickening jolt that the gloves that Tango normally wore to cover his finger were gone, showing off wicked hooked fingernails that no matter what he did always grew back as claws that got redstone dust under them. His eyes were alight with a look Impulse had never seen on his friends- where there was normally a happy, warm, excitable energy, there was now a terrifying thrill that even enderman or blazes did not possess.
Tango took a step forward and other hermits took a step back, except for Iskall and Doc, who had readied his trident.
"Not a step further, Tango," Doc growled.
"We don't want to hurt you," Iskall added.
"Tango, calm down love, i-it's alright. Whatever's bothering you, we can talk it ou'," Stress said, slowly moving forward but being held back by the Swede with the sword.
"I don't think he's going to listen," Iskall said quietly to her.
Impulse grimaced as they came to a standstill. The other hermits versus Tango, one of his best friends, who they all knew was not dangerous... except right now he was. Tango swayed on his feet, light on his feet, and Impulse knew from the amount of roughhousing they did that the demon packed a punch when not holding back.
Xisuma sucked in a breath from behind Impulse.
"What is it?" Ren asked, not taking his eyes off the showdown.
"It's his tree," Xisuma breathed, "It's affected now as well."
"So it made Grian sick, Wels exhausted, and now Tango... demonic?" Jevin summarized cautiously. "This is horrible..."
There was a hum of agreement.
Impulse stared at Tango in pain. In front of him was this prowling, maniacal version of one of his best friends, who they had no way of returning to sanity without a cure to the trees but also obviously couldn't handle in this state.
Python stepped forward. "I want to try something. Doc, put your trident down. Maybe he'll respond better to us if we don't threaten him, and because we're not human."
There as a muttering from someone saying that Tango looked more human than not, but was quickly hushed by Xisuma.
Doc glared at the passive-aggressive demon, but slowly placed his trident on the ground. Iskall backed up, but didn't lower his sword by any means. "Alright, Python, don't get yourselves killed," the hitman muttered.
The red creeper laughed nervously. "Yeah, sounds like a plan." Then he turned fully to Tango.
"Hey man. I know we don't know each other that well, but we're gonna figure this out, alright? It's just us. No need for weapons," Python said slowly, gesturing to Doc's trident on the ground.
Tango's eyes flicked to the trident. Python took another step forward, and Doc slowly moved to the side, giving space between himself and the other creeper hybrid. Impulse wondered if the others noticed Tango's subtle movement. With the red-on-red eyes, it was hard to notice the small changes, but being friends for as long as the golden boy had been with the demon, Impulse read him like the back of his own hand.
He's still looking at the trident. I think Python thinks he's still watching him-
Tango's slit eyes rapidly scanned over the rest of the group and made eye contact with Impulse. Pausing before narrowing and glancing down at the pale blue weapon once more.
He's going for it!
"Look out!" Impulse yelled right as Tango sprung into action. He leapt forward and slid to his knees, arching backward underneath Iskall's diamond blade, rising to one knee in a fluid motion and scooping up the trident.
"Well now we're done for," Joe groaned and pulled out a shield. The other hermits prepared their weapons, regretfully realizing they're going to have to fight. All eyes were on Tango now, waiting to see how the outnumbered one would react.
What do we do? Tango's still in there. What if we can't bring him back? Any of them? What if the trees are permanent and they're all dead and now Tango is... feral? Impulse was scared. Scared of that word, of what it meant, and what would happen to his friend if they act and what would happen to them if they didn't.
This is a no-win situation.
Tango raised the trident and was immediately met by Iskall's sword, the Swedish hitman reacting the quickest with his decent PVP skills.
And just like that, the fight against one of their own was on.
The trident swung around in a wide arc and everyone jumped back, before Tango jabbed the long weapon and Joe stepped forward and ducked behind his shield. The tips of the pronged weapon got stuck in the soft but reinforced wood, and Joe sent a wild look over his shoulder as Tango grunted, trying to pull back the weapon.
"Some assistance would be greatly appreciated so I don't get run through work a fork?"
"On it, Joe!" Cleo gave a battlecry as she did an understand swing, dislodging the trident from the poet's shield and from the demon's grip. It flipped in the air and landed in the long grass of the tiny island.
Doc, seeing his weapon free, made a dive for it. Iskall charged and took another strike at Tango, but his adrenaline was faster and he slid to the ground, grabbing his trident and letting Doc hit the ground harshly, a dull thud and "oof" coming from the cyborg as the air was knocked out of whatever lungs he had that wasn't machinery.
Tango twisted his body and braced the trident above his head just in time to meet Iskall's blade once more. They both grimaced as the forced against each other, trying to get the other to buckle.
Impulse was frozen watching the fight unfold in front of him. Stress and Xisuma seemed to be in a similar state, too scared and worried to know how to react. Ren was antsy watching Doc's and Iskall's moves, clearly wanting to help but not sure how. Jevin and Python has crept away and were making silent eye contact and single hand gestures.
What are they doing? Impulse wondered, but shook his head, keeping his focus on trying to figure out how the heck he was going to help Tango.
"Tango! This isn't you, dude!" Iskall said. The blonde only grinned.
With a powerful surprise shove of his trident Tango pushed Iskall back where Jevin reached out and caught him, then quickly spun the staff to regain his grip and raised the handle above his head, prongs pointed at the ground where Doc had finally recovered enough to be slowly lifting himself to his knees.
"NO!" Ren yelled out and surged forward, fists raised to go into hand-to-hand combat to protect Doc.
Doc had gotten himself oriented enough to see Ren coming and roll out of the way, propped up on one knee as the werewolf flew past.
At the same time, Python jumped into action, grabbing the trident staff himself from behind and restraining Tango.
Ren tried to skid to stop before he hurt Python, but ended up ramming into Tango.
Impulse watched in horror and the blonde demon's head jerked back from the momentum. His horn that extruded from the left side of his forehead and was just longer than his head that Impulse and Zedaph had learned to avoid knocked into Python's head, the soft, wrinkled, red flesh immediately blooming into a dark maroon. The red creeper let go of the trident and stumbled backward, gripping his head where it had been punctured.
"Python!"
Stress shrieked and coveted her mouth. Joe dropped everything and went into medic mode, scrambling to pull out a healing potion and Cleo was not a second layer pulling out string she kept on her in case she needed to do repairs on her tattered clothes.
Xisuma covered Doc and got him to his feet finally. Jevin was tending to Iskall, who seemed to have been wounded somewhere along the way in the fight and was downing a healing potion himself. Ren was staring in shock at Python, who had grown to a dulled pink color and eyes were fluttering. Joe and Cleo were talking urgently to each other.
"He's not healing!"
"His tree isn't regenerating..."
"There has to be something we can do, Joe!"
Joe silently shook his head. "Just try to stop the bleeding. Creepers don't have strong skin."
Cleo stared at him, a silent conversation happening in seconds between them before they both went back to work.
The only ones left were Impulse and Tango. Tango was staring at Python as well, the tension having left his stance and the ironically clean pronged weapon held loosely in his hand. His left horn was stained red, and there were a few speckles of crimson on the ends of his hair. He didn't seem be as alert anymore, he could have attacked anyone else by now, but he just... stood there.
I really hope that's Tango in there, resisting, and not him being a sadist and watching his victim die.
"Impulse," Xisuma approached. Doc had joined Jevin and Iskall, glancing over his shoulder and eyeing his weapon with a dark passion. Impulse gripped the unused sword in his hand, a grim feeling settling in his stomach seeing the admin's expression.
"We can't help him right now..."
The dark-haired man shivered as that was said. He grimaced and blinked away the tears and horrible feeling as he knew what had to be done.
"I know," Impulse whispered. Xisuma has the same expression that Impulse felt. Their eyes both slowly fell to Impulse's sword, a guilty silent agreement coming to them.
"I'm sorry," X choked, pulling out his own sword. Impulse shook his head and readied his own weapon.
"No. I will. I know how to fight him."
"But he's your friend!"
"And we can't risk losing you as admin," Impulse reasoned. X was surprised by this, jumping at the statement, before giving in.
"I hate that title, you know."
The gold man gave a single, cynical laugh. "I would too."
Then Impulse turned away from Xisuma and stepped forward. One step, two steps, then he called the name.
"Tango Tek!"
The demon at least responded to his name and faced Impulse. He glanced up and down at the human, eyes lingering on the sword and his face. Slowly, Tango started to raise the trident.
Impulse didn't give him the chance to fight back. He thrust his sword up, and it slid smoothly into the warm flesh in front of him. Tango cried out and sucked in a breath of air.
"I'm sorry," Impulse whispered.
"What's happening? What did I do...?" Tango asked, the first words he had spoken since Impulse had first realized something was wrong. Impulse pulled out his sword and Tango crumpled to the ground.
Two consecutive server messages came in on his phone in his cargo shorts pocket. He didn't need to look to know who it was as the realization of what he had just done set in. The sword slipped out of his hand, no longer feeling like a his main weapon now some sort of evil tool, despite having killed players with it before.
But everyone came back during the war. There was no question everyone would respawn. Tango's GONE now....
Joe and Cleo leaned back, giving up in their work at the still Python. Jevin helped Iskall to his feet, and Doc and Xisuma just observed their grief-stricken group.
Stress was quietly crying on the side, eyes wide and hands covering her mouth. Impulse slowly walked over to her, giving her the hug he so desperately wanted himself.
"This is too much. It's not supposed to go like this!" Stress breathed between sobs.
"I know."
They sank to the ground and Impulse cried.
