i mean this has been rehashed repeatedly at the time the episode aired, but the issue with taylor and the jonah story specifically is that she said details in that news report that she ONLY knew because chim and hen had told her in a conversation that she said was off the record. her reporting on the story generally is not the problem, her using those details is.
i'm not arguing with you that buck didn't treat her crappy, he did. they were both just terrible for each other i think. i'm just arguing this specific incident which was a breach of trust on her part.
(I went off lmao sorry its so long)
They never showed those details though. What we saw on the episode was that right as the accident was happening they got the picture of Jonah and his name identified ready to go (and it is because of chim and hen) but never further details. And Buck caught her investigating further from what chim and hen gave and only said she couldn’t run the story before catching him because it would help him run and that Bobby was taking care of it. So she promised not to because of that risk. And she kept that promise. She waited.
All Hen and Chim gave her apart from the overall suspicion of what he was doing was the Claudette incident details (because they used her footage to investigate). And it is never mentioned those details are out on the screen. The report was simply what he was being accused of, which would have been out there regardless. It was no small incident. Had Taylor not been with Buck chances are she still would have found out about it and covered like at most 12 hours after the incident. All she did was be there faster than other reporters, which gave her the advantage of not having to wait for the fire department to have time to come up with a “cured statement” for release. Which i think that’s fair. Journalism is not about releasing cured statements of companies. Which like thats such a sus wording regardless like “cured” means pretty much hiding truths and being vague. And those were Bobby’s words (him saying the chief was probably just mad they didn’t have time to come up with a cured release statement).
I absolutely adore Buck. I even loved him in s1 (a lot of people seem not to and idk why? Loved him since the pilot). But I genuinely can’t blame taylor for anything. Their relationship fell because of him. I disagree that both were crappy to each other. He wanted something from her that he wasn’t willing to give back. He wanted a partner that understands his job and passion for it and him entirely without expecting any compromise there, yet he expected to have a say on which stories Taylor could release and when, which is not his place tbh. Even then, Taylor agreed to wait until he was caught. Just that Buck had told Taylor it was dangerous to run the story if Jonah wasn’t caught, but what he really meant was that he didn’t want the story to be covered at all (because it reflected badly on a company he works for). The state is gonna fuck up, and it is journalists and people with Taylor’s job who have the duty to cover that on tv and let people know. And both us the audience AND Buck know Taylor doesn’t come from a place of wanting fame or an ego. We got to see her past and how much she values people uncovering the truth and having as much available information as they can due to her traumatic family past. And while I understand Buck realizing their conflict of interests makes their relationship impossible, i just feel like is unfair he made her sound villainous or selfish for doing it. Because it wasn’t.
Taylor forgave him cheating, basically trapping her in the apartment because of his abandonment issues (which she explicitly worded like that and then he didn’t disagree to that sentiment) and then being lied to about the girl involved. Also having used her with the Veronica thing when she was needing a friend. Taylor forgave him multiple times for him treating her genuinely bad. And the one time she didn’t even treat him badly, just went against his wishes (which again, not really because he had said while jonah was loose and she covered the story when he got caught) he says he absolutely can’t deal with her. Even when Taylor said she was willing to change and set up new boundaries (which to me she didn’t have to at all).
It just feels unfair that rather than saying they weren’t compatible it felt like Buck just blamed her. And that majority of fans of the show agree with that?? I love buddie, but I constantly see buddie edits where people treat Taylor as if she had betrayed him and purposely seeked to hurt the 118 to benefit herself when all she was doing was her job. She waited like buck wanted her to (she was gonna run the story BEFORE he had been caught and didn’t because of buck).
Just feels like the 911 fans feel a little too comfortable on hating certain female characters and excuse it by saying they like buddie. I love buddie, and want it to be canon too. But that’s no excuse to hate on certain female characters???? (Like shannon).
And i get not liking certain characters. I dont like lucy, but the online treatment is annoying. Like me as a person just starting to watch the show i read the spoilers and I genuinely thought taylor was an egocentric bitch because thats how they made her sound. I started the show and disliked her the minute she was on screen because of what i had heard of her character. I knew she would eventually cover a story of the 118 and hurt them before i started the show. I kept waiting for the shoe to drop, and eventually realized her character wasn’t bad at all.
Love Buck a lot, but the relationship didn’t end because they were crappy with each other, Taylor was just too good for him lmao

how different are the anime and manga? are there certain things you like about one more than the other?
very different, like night and day. i'll leave season 2 (kyoto saga) aside and just talk about season 1, since the movie is a side/non-canon story (i really love it tho) and season 2 is like 90% canon (minus the last episode with that scene where rin & yukio talked. in the manga it was a whole mini arc with them talking to eachother amidst a fight with high tension, rather than them just chilling by a river lmao)
the most apparent scene that was different from the anime & manga was the first chapter/episode 1-2, where shiro died. the anime made it into a pretty fascinating & exciting intro to the series, with rin getting hired as a grocery store clerk, and ending with a battle against demons coming after him. where the manga, while still at its core having the same important moments (rin looking for a job, having delinquents jump him, and shiro getting possessed), it was really just a sad scene with no one except himself, shiro & satan bearing witness to the events of that night. out of fear he caused his father's possession/death, he never speaks about it to anyone. so no one really knows how that night unfolded. unlike the anime having the priests see everything (kinda awkwardly) and then later yukio showing up.
the manga really expands upon & fleshes out the characters, whereas the anime (s1) really.. flanderizes them. i think yukio is the most painful example, he is very much not the irrational "all demons are evil" kinda guy, hes truly just a kid indoctrinated into the exorcists mindset since he was 7, but the anime never really showed how nuanced and deep he is, so he became a punching bag for people to easily/mindlessly hate. also, he is NOT a half demon like rin. he's fully human just with some..Peculiarities lol (iykyk)
anyways, blue exorcist truly shines as a slow burn story, we are 145 chapters in (with the next chapter being just a few days away) and have only just now touched upon the aspects that the final parts of season 1 showed. but it is completely different, in almost every aspect. yet you can still see the resemblances to the anime, i wont get too into it for spoilers, but yk the scene with rin's sword breaks? in the anime they repaired it & everything was fine again. but in the manga, rin permanently changes from it abruptly being broken. for better and worse. afterwards, it becomes a whole underlying character arc.
season 1 was like the story's blueprint, its building blocks in a sense. the manga is truly where it shines, letting the characters grow and each have their own moments & developments before things get really heated within it's world.
it also divulges into the lore in almost a philosophical level: what really are demons & humans, are they truly so different from eachother? with rin being the focus of this question as people say he is Both human and demon and yet simultaneously being Neither at the same time.
the world building becomes expanded upon, by leaps and bounds. we see how the order/exorcists really operate. we find out What demons truly are, and their real reasons to be against humans. we find out what really happened during the blue night and what lead up to that. the world feels more open & wide, and everything feels so intertwined.
it also touches upon some VERY dark and heavy subjects, becoming more and more dark as it progresses. from mental illness, trauma & generational trauma to war, suicide, human experiments & corrupt organizations. and yet despite this darkness it still sends a good message that despite things being bad, its still worth it to keep living. and the author just knows the perfect moments to grab people by their heartstrings with it.
s1 is not Bad per-se, sometimes im harsh on it due to me personally being obsessed with the manga's canon. it does have its cute filler scenes (i actually love that rin got a grocery job in episode 1) and its pretty enjoyable as a cute fluffy feel-good anime. i first watched the anime+movie as a kid in 2015 and loved it, but it felt like it had far more potential. which is where the manga DELIVERED, by leaps and bounds.
however, now that the anime is focused on adapting it faithfully, this will change within the future. especially once get more canon episodes compared to the vast amount of manga content lol. but until then, i suggest to check out the manga 🫡
TL;DR: this is the anime vs the manga (in a good way LOL)

THANK YOU finally someone here has a good take regarding the "haha barok and kazuma violently hate each other" thing?? ppl insisting that their dynamic post-game is always gonna keep being the exact same as when they're at their most extreme emotional states just... baffles me, especially since they're literally shown to be civil to each other right afterwards. it's Right There! idk why so many ppl ignore this! in general their circumstances are so unique that it's a huge disservice to boil them down just to being haters.. like yeah they're gonna be huge mess after everything, but not in the way that fandom usually potrays them. if kazuma fully hated the guy i don't think he'd insist on keeping the apprenticeship the way he did in game. sorry if any of this makes no sense, i have too much bottled up rage regarding fandom nonsense. nuance and character growth are nonexistent to people here
also scrolled through your other posts a tiny bit and i feel you, it truly is hard to be in this fandom and not be an as//ry liker, especially if you're a kazuma enjoyer. difficulty level: impossible. you're not alone tho! :')
sorry for leaving this in your inbox, hope you have a nice day/night!!
ANON….THANK U…..i feel like a big problem with the dgs fandom in particular is that they dont really consider how 2-5 affects character dynamics post-canon? because all the change is right there. ive talked about this but its like portraying kazuma’s relationship with ryuunosuke as Exactly The Same post-canon when it would be DRASTICALLY different despite them still loving each other very much, because ryuunosuke now sees all of kazuma. he was only seeing a very small part of who he was before, and his entire perception of his best friend got dismantled and replaced by a completely different one in a really short period of time.
the exact same is true for kazuma and barok: they have despised each other so deeply and irrevocably for a DECADE and now suddenly they have to accept the fact that nobody really did anything wrong. kazuma tried to send barok to his death, but he was doing it out of grief and rage built up over ten years. barok convicted genshin and that led to him dying, but he was young and naïve and grieving and being manipulated by stronghart the entire time. genshin killed klint but he did so honorably. klint was a murderer but all he wanted was to make his home a better place for the people in it. its all so complicated and nobody is completely innocent or completely at fault. everyone did something wrong for good reasons and everyone did something good for the wrong reasons. it’s too nuanced of a situation for them to truly go on hating each other the way they used to, because they’re both MATURE ADULTS who can understand the intricacies of the situation.
do i think they dunk on each other post-canon? i mean. yes. obviously. do i think they HATE each other, still, to this inane degree? no. obviously. their relationship is going to be strained. there’s literally no way that it wouldn’t be. but they respect each other, they hold each other in high regard, and they’re respectful. and it sucks because these changes in dynamics are literally SHOWN at the end of 2-5 but people just like. cant. comprehend them. like i just don’t get it. also if kazuma is going to hate anyone in the cast its going to be herlock like he fucking SHIPPED HIS AMNESIAC CORPSE TO CHINA and never apologized for it i would NOT be letting that go anytime soon

List of favorite versions of these characters
List of my favorite iterations of different characters:
This is an opinion:
Spider-Man
Tumblr media
I just love how nuanced and developed this take on Spidey is. All are great in their own terms but I have personally felt more of a connection to this Spidey more than anyone else, with only Andrew Garfield's coming close because I just love that the whole mannerisms are just so real.
He experiences anger and sadness and so many other negative emotions. He doesn't have to be the happy one all the time because that's unrealistic. It has a more grounded apporach than Tobey Maguire's Spidey but not as much as Andrew Garfield, giving the perfect balance for a quality comic book movie character. It's not too campy but has just the right amount.
The main problem is the fanfiction writers treating him like a five year old when he is not. This is a developed and mature character. How everyone just treats him like a baby is beyond me. His last appearance had him try to murder a man with his bare hands (and a weaponized glider). There was no baby in that scene.
Next up it's Batman.
Tumblr media
This one has so much potential. I don't have as much to discuss but I just feel drawn to it for some reason. The incredibly dark, emotional feel seems to just work for Batman and Robert Pattinson just nails it. The only other one that comes close is Christian Bale who unfortunately puts me off with two things. The design and the voice.
You can't tell me Batman sounds like he gargles with battery acid. Also... hockey pads? Really Nolan?
Next up... Percy Jackson. (Reminder that I am only putting in live action ones as I have not seen the Lightning Thief play but I have been told it's great)
This one is no contest.
Tumblr media
While Logan Lerman was actually a perfect casting for the 16 year old Son of Poseidon, his performance was slightly bogged down by the movie he was in. Logan and the Lotus scene was probably the only thing I would ever like about the movies. Walker on the other hand, while we have only seen him in trailer as of right now, is the perfect Percy. I don't care about his looks because the entire reason PJO was created was to send the message that anyone, whether they have dyslexia or ADHD, can be a hero. The whole part of Percy's design doesn't matter, just as long as he looks like Poseidon. That's the only part that matters. Just like how Annabeth's design doesn't matter as the whole idea of it was that anyone can be smart, despite being discriminated against for their appearance. THIS LITERALLY MEANS IT MAKES MORE SENSE FOR HER TO BE BLACK RATHER THAN BLONDE. STOP BULLYING LEAH YOU RACIST NERDS ON THE INTERNET. NOT THAT I'M HATING ON NERDS THO I AM ONE AND THIS ARGUMENT IS LITERALLY TO DEFEND THE ULTIMATE NERD.
Anyway back to Percy. Walker is Percy Jackson. Anyone seen Secret Headquarters and The Adam Project? It's like seeing Percy come to life. Anyone who says 'Ever had your ass beat by a twelve year old nerd with an inhaler' in that tone is Percy Jackson. His entire mannerism just is the chaotic energy of Percy. Plus, Rick Riordan has said that he has encouraged Walker to embrace anger in the show rather than just be the stereotypical morally superior protagonist. THIS PERCY WILL SHOW EMOTION AND ANGER AND EVERYTHING. THAT IS PERCY. From the start, he has always had a slightly darker streak, from manipulating Procrustes into lying in his literal death bed to manipulating the tears and poison of the misery goddess (No idea where the fandom got the idea of blood bending that's not part of the scene)
Honestly, all I've heard from this kid is just Percy Jackson. He is Percy.
For the final one we have Superman and Lex Luthor.
Tumblr media
This is the best ever Clark Kent I have seen. He shows both the alien side and the human side of Kal-El so well. Henry Cavill was amazing but we never saw really saw Clark enough. More of the Kal-El side. This is probably because of the lack of appearance due to all the weird problems with the DCEU which was disappointing as he was gearing up to take the new favorite spot for me. Welling on the other hand, had so much time, evolving and developing this character that is was just hard not to see Welling when I hear Clark.
Despite the lack of suiting up (Which was fixed by the Season 11 comics and Smallville Tie-ins) he managed to bring the essence of Superman into the show so well. His time as the Red-Blue Blur and The Blur managed to show both his heroic side and his darker side, adding a much more emotionally invested side to the character. Rather than just making him the morally correct character who can do no wrong and assumes the best in everyone like most people think of when they see Superman, Smallville's version shows him as a person making him have flaws, doubts, anger, emotion and so much trails.
His friendship and rivalry with Lex, paired with Tom Welling's amazing chemistry with Michael Rosenbaum, created such amazing on screen banter and added a new layer to his character, giving him a large parallel to one of his greatest enemies.
Both started off wanting to be just good. The main difference was parentage. Clark was lucky to get Jonathan and Martha. He may have had some hiccups with Jor-El but Jor-El at least wanted to give him a good path. Lex had Lionel. Lionel was abusive, via neglect and hate. Lionel was the real reason why Lex had no hope of becoming a hero. This came into play heavily in the earlier seasons of Smallville.
Smallville was always a three act play.
Act 1: Season 1-3
This one focused on fathers and sons
So much of this was about Jonathan and Clark, Lionel and Lex, Henry Small and Lana, Jor-El and Clark, even Gabe and Chloe for a bit.
Act 2: 4-7
This one helped develop the characters through their interactions with each other while building the Krypton sub-plot.
This was how Lana's relationship with Clark and Lex grew and fell.
This was how Chloe grew to be one of Clark's most trusted confidants.
This was about how Clark and Lex's friendship started failing.
All the while, we finally were introduced to actual characters from the comic books other than Lex, Lana, Clark, Pete and Clark's parents.
We saw The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Green Arrow and Black Canary.
We were introduced to Lois Lane of all people which gave everyone my favorite version of the character, rivalled only by My Adventures with Superman and Superman and Lois.
We saw Brainiac, Bizarro and Supergirl.
This truly marked the end of the fathers and sons arc with Jonathan suffering a heart attack and Lex truly becoming the villain after murdering his Father, a fate he had tried so hard to stop in the earlier seasons.
Then we got the final act.
Act 3: Seasons 8-10
This was the act where Clark truly became a hero. He stepped out of the shadows as the Red-Blue Blur. He took on Doomsday. He finally defeated Brainiac. Lois and Clark became a thing. We saw his dark side as he became The Blur, with his trenchcoat and we saw him evolve past his dark side and then finally, he donned the cape.
This was truly the greatest version of Superman.
Now you must be waiting for the Lex one.
Of course it will be Smallville's Lex.
Tumblr media
Michael Rosenbaum was PERFECT.
He will be the only Lex I ever see.
His take on the character was just so emotional and perfect.
His relationship with Clark and his slow descent to madness and evil but just perfect.
That day on the bridge changed his life but it also changed all of ours.
Everyone who saw Smallville knew that Clark and Lex would become enemies and yet it still hurt.
Tumblr media
Let's be honest, this scene broke everyone.
This was when there truly was no return.
Tumblr media
This just cemented what everyone knew would happen.
This was truly the greatest pair in TV history.
They've come a long way from this:
Tumblr media
Knight out.

(Long ass ask whoops)
I'm thinking about MY as LQR's son. I'm not sure how it happened (Maybe Lao Nie or WRH dragged him to a brothel before things went downhill, maybe LQR didn't always have a stick up his ass, he's a Lan but he's still a second son) anyway, so on.
I think it would be interesting to watch as things develop because LQR probably wouldn't want others to know he's visited a brothel at some point (even though lying is forbidden but LQR breaks a bunch of rules in the novel anyway), so he wouldn't name MY Lan even if he treats him as part of the main family (like the WWX and JFM situation)
You know xiyao first meet? It's pretty damn obvious LXC fell for him at first sight and the thing is he would here too. Because he doesn't know they're related! I think it's funny that MY has to constantly dodge his (very subtle admittedly) attemps at flirting because they're cousins and he can't say anything because LQR doesn't want him to.
And this would give MY an entirely different breed of daddy issues! LQR is fundamentally good but he's not exactly loving, and MY has to go above and beyond to get the tiniest bit of praise from him. Kinda like having an openly POS parent (aka JGS) and being at peace with that/ not having lots of expectations vs living with someone who you know loves you but is at the same time very strict and has very high expectations so you want their approval because you know you can get it if you just try hard enough.
And then SMS comes in! He has his reservations regarding MY at first (because we know cql SMS was loyal to LXC before it all went to hell), (LXC just cant appreciate undying obsessive devotion smh) and maybe sees him as a threath, but then MY is genuinely nice to him and remembers him, acknowledges him in a way neither the twin jades nor LQR ever did, and even praises him for his hard work, so SMS is absolutely hooked
And they fall in love! MY is kinda afraid to ask LQR for his blessing but by the time he does the wangxian stuff already happened (and maybe nielan shenanigans, I firmly believe LQR would disaprove of NMJ bc of the violence of the Nie cultivation and the utilisation of resentful energy that comes with it) and he's just relieved his son isn't in love with a war criminal or a violent brute (as he percieves NMJ)
And then MY becomes Lan Yao (and gets a courtesy name, thinking shuài 帅 as in handsome/graceful/smart and ráo 饶 because it has connotations of abundance and forgiveness/mercy, two things the Lan sect values, so Lán Shuàiráo 蓝帅饶)
LXC utterly horrified at having fallen for his cousin lmao
And then there's the part of canon where we know SMS walked out of the Lan sect by his own foot! And I think we can assume it was out of shame, so like, JGY defending him! The Lans scorning him for attemping to sacrifice Mianmian, but JGY, who feels secure within the Lan sect, and who values his life above nearly anything, would go "No, no, you were afraid and under threath of death, I'd do that too" and convinces SMS to stay, while shutting down everything throw SMS's way
Cue SMS thriving and happy as (maybe) Lan-furen serving JGY in every way like the loyal dog he is (as in canon)
Yeah.
AAAHHHHHH I LOVE THIS!!
I've seen a couple fics/scenarios in which MY was born into or made part of the Nie and the Jiang, but idk if I've come across him being part of the Lan. I vibe with the idea of him being the child of LQR (and a product of one of the man's wildest and probably most regretable decisions lol).
It's interesting that it would lead him to have a whole new brand of daddy issues, a milder kind too since he's not at risk of getting thrown out at the smallest mistake and that at least he knows that his father's praise IS obtainable, if not easily. In any case, he would keep his nuanced mentality at still not being fully honored as a true son of the Lan and all, but not his extreme survivor mentality that often led him to tolerate abuse.
Lol it's ironic tho how he just can't escape the incest XD
But I love him and SMS getting together!! In a place like the Lan sect, they truly would be different in their approach to the whole righteous rules thing, and they would find companionship and kinship in each other, eventually turning into love. Especially in how JGY would be the only reason why SMS would stay there.

trimax volume 6 random thoughts
chapter 1:
oh, hey, it's the guy from the 98 anime!..... or not?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm not keeping track of this TOO closely, so there may be other instances of this that i missed, but the guy from 98 episode 1 also showed up in trimax chapter 7. it makes me wonder if nightow provided character designs/ideas to the 98 team, or if it's the other way around and he decided to incorporate anime-original characters into the manga. either way: neat!
HAVE I MENTIONED I LOVE MERYL, BY THE WAY.
Tumblr media
i love the bits of characterization we've been getting for her. she (and milly) are our tie to humanity, after all
i must say it is nice to have a goofy fight after... all that in volume 5. and before... the rest of volume 6.
chapter 2:
aaaand now we start the next chapter with wolfwood's nightmare/flashback! hurts just a little bit! (the trio IS kinda serving tho ngl... when you have a fashion show at 7 but need to terrorize the orphanage at 6)
Tumblr media
^ completely and 100% unironically, they were in love here.
i just... ugh. this is such a vashwood chapter. the absolute trust and fighting together completely seamlessly, they are just. ugh. ughhhhh. this kind of trust just GETS to me.... sorry. i'm normal about them. i'm NORMALLLLLLaauughghghgh
ANYWAY. chekhov's table made me laugh
Tumblr media
i am physically restraining myself from going crazy over vw again as i reread this chapter to write this post.
anyway anyway. ww calling himself "nicholas" is cute :)
Tumblr media
just kidding one more vw comment as a treat
Tumblr media
HE'S SO IN LOVE. FUUUUUCK.
chapter 3:
legato continues to be fascinating to me. i'm observing him like a bug in a jar. which is appropriate, considering...
Tumblr media
WHEN I CALLED HIM A BAGWORM IN THAT ONE POST I WAS JOKINGGGGG I WAS JOKING!!! THIS MADE ME LAUGH FOR LIKE 10 MINUTES STRAIGHT WHY DID SHE HANG HIM FROM THE CEILINGGGG IT'S SO FUNNY
Tumblr media
this is actually making me fucking cry.
...i got so distracted laughing at bagworm legato that i almost forgot to say literally anything else about the chapter, but anything else i have to say mostly boils down to "wow, legato is such a freak (affectionate)"
also, whenever something that was in tristamp is brought up i feel like the leonardo dicaprio pointing meme. like "oh hey, i know this!" going into this manga with prior knowledge from stampede is... an interesting experience. all that being said, i can't WAIT to see more of the manga version of double fang. oh nightow we're really in it now
chapter 4:
oh, finally, FINALLY!!! last volume i asked where the knives nuance was and now we're FINALLY getting some knuance, thank god. seeing knives react to just how badly humans treat plants is SO effective. and we're not even up to the juicy part yet. it makes me want to eat glass.
speaking of eating glass.
Tumblr media
i thought something like this might've been the case, but still... this hurts to read.
Tumblr media
i want to eat glass!!!! fuck!!! this reveal is so insane, it's like monkey's paw of "this is a way knives can be defeated, but by the same method, vash is closer to death than knives is." WE don't want vash to die, and neither does knives, and this chapter is the first (and possibly the only, idk) time the reader's feelings and knives's feelings are... well, aligned. at least in a sense.
chapter 5:
this chapter is really something, because it starts off almost seeming like another lighthearted "we're in a random town fighting a goofy enemy of the month" romp much like the early chapters were, heck like chapter 1 of this very volume. but it's just wearing the skin of that. which is, y'know. the thesis of this entire chapter. smiling to hide the pain and all that.
i don't think i can really... articulate anything of substance. the chapter just kind of... speaks for itself, i think.
although i DID laugh at ww trying to enjoy his noodles and failing, and also the phrase "needle-noggin-isms." thanks for providing some levity, we actually really do need it.
chapter 6:
ohhh boy we are REALLY in it now!!
i enjoy seeing knives ponder like this. legs crossed, arm slung over his face... i don't know. maybe it's because i myself sometimes lounge in this pose.
Tumblr media
what exactly is he thinking about, i wonder. that in awakening/forcing vash to use his powers, he unintentionally pushed him closer to death? maybe? i don't know. either way it's very on-the-nose for what their relationship has been like.
and then of course we cut to this shot of vash, looking in a mirror created by knives's slice
Tumblr media
this shot is making me think a lot and i'm reading too much into it, but- obviously the reflection puts vash's beauty mark on the opposite side, so there's the knives resemblance, so also, i suppose vash must see knives every time he looks in the mirror, right? also vash looking at his reflection featuring his own black hair- which we're all still thinking about... i dont know. i dont even know if this is anything LOL. i feel like i have the dots but i'm failing to articulate the connection. anyway
Tumblr media
this made me laugh. thanks for the levity again, wolfwood :)
Tumblr media
BECAUSE WE'RE GONNA NEED ALL THE COMIC RELIEF WE CAN GET, BABY!!!
Tumblr media
maybe i'm just insane for this because it's Generic Party Imagery but the specific combination of rem flashback + party popper + funny glasses makes me think of the similar scene in 98 when the seeds crew celebrates finding planet gunsmoke. like is this another instance of nightow nabbing stuff from 98 or am i just making things up.
the twins are so cute and baby knives smiles so much, i want to microwave myself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
knives wants to believe in humanity. man. MAN!!!!!
what comes next... i'm absolutely carrying my prior stampede knowledge into this, but fuck, man. fuck. even then, i know that stampede didn't show everything, so i don't even fully know what to expect. which is fun! but i can't believe the volume ends right in the middle of the flashback, MAN!!!

For the ask meme I'm like...
Tumblr media
But I'm going to go with Dexteros bc they've been on my mind this particular week! 😅
Obviously for the fic questions it could be hypothetical and/or DexBoss in general 😊
Send me one of three prompts
made a whole meme and everything omg
When I started shipping it if I did:
honestly i’d say like. pretty much right away when i went through sr1? i thought they just made a perfect pair. dex complemented anteros so well imo, and eventually it snowballed into becoming a cornerstone of my canon. their dynamic is crucial to the foundation of my sr canon. kinda interesting how it started out w “i really love dex and i think he works well w my boss character and how he develops into srtt” to “my canon as we know it would literally not exist without the relationship between dex and anteros”
My thoughts:
where do i even start. what can i say that i haven’t said about them before. two halves. the sun and the moon. would find each other in any universe. trapped in an endless cycle. i love you i hate you no one can kill you but me no one will ever understand me but you. devoted until the end.
What makes me happy about them:
i love thinking about them in sr1. it’s so important to me that they goof off together; anteros showing dex all his fave clubs and going out drinking and anteros trying to get dex to dance w him but dex getting too self-conscious but they’re still laughing anyway and then coming to the church the next morning hungover but trying to not make it obvious. both showing more vulnerable sides of themselves to each other. just that whirlwind romance of sr1. then 10 years later having them start over and having this become a slowburning desire for each other. a yearning to return to what once was and eventually trying to create some semblance of a normal relationship. those little moments. the knowledge that despite it all they never stopped loving each other.
What makes me sad about them:
honestly what makes me happy abt them also makes me sad. the death of anteros at the end of sr1. dex feeling as if he’s lost everything at that point, w julius leaving and anteros dead. his anger at troy for lying, for not putting anteros out of his misery. and just the entirety of sr2 and srtt. similarly once they DO “start over” post-sriv, it’s overlayed w a sense of tragedy bc what does it mean to have a “normal” relationship when you’re them? does it mean hiding it all over again? when will it be their turn. for better or for worse things will never be like they once were. we can’t go back to stilwater 2006.
Things done in fanfic that annoys me:
never really ventured into dex/boss fic i’ll be real. ig in general i just don’t like when dex gets characterized as this irredeemable villain bc that’s just not him at all. i see so many old things that just give him no nuance or just forget he exists…..heartbreaking
Things I look for in fanfic:
again never really looked at dex/boss fic so not super applicable. the things i would look for are. um. do they kiss.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
anteros has either of his other partners which i’m happy with. i suppose kinzteros in a more canon sense and troyteros for more AU stuff. or at least that’s how it seems to usually end up. dex i think would be fine alone. unlike anteros who will explode if he doesn’t have a partner, dex is fine being single and on his own. he’s an independent person. tho if voli somehow came out tomorrow and said dex ended up w a nice husband i’d be happy w that too.
My happily ever after for them:
wouldn’t that be nice……ig just them making it work as best they can. unless anteros retires—which is something that wouldn’t happen for a very long time—i can’t imagine a real like. marriage and house and kids and all that. just not really in the cards for them. honestly that is one of the things i wanna explore post-sriv: what does the future of this relationship look like? both are committed to it, both still madly in love, but is this how it’s always gonna be? anteros missed the point for a normal life a long time ago.
Who is the big spoon/little spoon:
anteros is the big spoon. it’s like a inch height difference and anteros is using that. traps him w his arms and legs. clingy.
What is their favorite non-sexual activity:
talking and getting into arguments, and i mean that sincerely and not in a bad way. as in, getting into discussions about topics bc they’re both insanely academic. especially as they get older, talking about more mundane things like, as you and i have talked about before, arguing over shit like what colors to paint their bedroom walls and getting ultra specific about it. they love it. anteros’ favorite thing in the world is to disagree w dex. dex would be lying if he said he hated having their discussions too. sometimes anteros just plays an overexaggerated devil’s advocate just to get a smirk outta him. it’s fun. they genuinely love it.
also music! listening and singing along. both share a lot of favorite artists and even tho anteros’ taste can get a lil. eccentric. when it comes down to it, there’s nothing better than driving through stilwater at night together, blasting the radio and singing along. also i think dex just has a really nice singing voice so anteros is more than happy to let him take the lead. one of thew few things in this world that’ll make anteros happily be quiet.

GUYS GUYS I CAN'T KSODKLSOSL!!!1!!1LKDKJ;;S !!!l1JK!::kKD;P SOSKSLSPSODS A;SDOKDLAD I CAN'T EVEN FORM WORDS
spoilers for ep 12 (and a bit for trigun in general) and my overexited ramblings under the cut
you know an episode will be good when where's no opening
so, the twins are meant to be characterized straightforward in every anime adaptation, ig. it's not bad, but the manga twists their personalities 180° and it adds SO MUCH nuance (I'll talk about this at length some day)
tbh I had to pause for laughter when knives was YEETED outta the gate (I have sense of humor of a five year old)
everybody already said everything, but still. OG HAIR COMEBACK OMG AHRAHAAKFJDlahjddjha!!!!!!!! ;!!! ;! and not only hair, but the whole characterization this episode was much closer to trimax vash, and not just sadboy depressive bbg
MERYL/REM PARALLELS LETS GOOOO!!! like, I guessed this would happen, but the visuals, the tension and pure GRATITUDE in vash's voice when he was able to break free from his mental prison... we're eating good
speaking of eating, I CAN'T get over that moment when vash deadass BIT KNIVES. that's peak sibling behavior, he's literally fighting tooth and nail over there
also mashwood is so real tonight!! love love love meryl&nico interactions in stampede, they barely spoke to each other in other versions! and the look of relief on vash's face when he sees nico skedaddling away with meryl!!! he's so glad that they're gonna be okay and that nico made the right choice and came back to help, if briefly. interstingly, he was able to remember everyone, but after the explosion at the end he still lost his memory.
and THE WINGS, DUDE!!!! it gives the finale of trimax, when they both had only one wing left..... still missing feathers, but I love the diversity with knives's, eh... knives, and vash's energy/void or whatever that is, I support it
he's so pathetic even when he looks cool, homeboy had NO control when he used his wing for the first time... cudos for learning new powers on the spot tho
ow ow ow that scene with the military hurt... and he couldn't even save them!
"why are you like that, vash?" "I'm vash the stampede" "IT'S BEEN OVER A CENTURY AND THIS IS THE BEST YOU COULD CAME UP WITH" same here, knives, he's hopeless. I anticipated that moment, but it probably hits even hard for stampede onlys
angel arm!!! tho it's not that angelic now... how are we gonna call it? I take suggestions. rip arm and coat, I feel like we'll actually get a more trimax leaning design next season!
to all the ppl (myself included) who wanted to see vash cry properly... are you happy? ARE YOU FUCKING HAPPY??? after the last episode, after all the mental torture knives put him through, vash still doesn't want to hurt him and, just like knives, can't handle the distance between them.......... I am inconsolable. and as much as knives wanted to break vash, it hurts him so much to see those tears irl....... but he just can't stop, because they're both SO FUCKING STUBBORN and it already took to much to get there and he just can't. stop. now.
"nai is dead, you killed him" first of all, *sounds of screaming crying throwing up*. second of all, his name is million knives, vash, stop deadnaming your brother/j
the death scene itself.... oh it's soo good and yummy. I know this mf isn't fully dead and conrad will fix him, but still. he can have a second death of self as a treat
btw, gotta adress my earlier theory about "happy birthday" being metaphorical. no, it is in fact July 21st, and tristamp lasted about two months in universe. still pretty hard for me to believe, it felt five times shorter due to the pacing. but it is what it is: I'm esht and I was wrong, I'm singing the esht wrong song
and just as I thought this would be the end of it, WE GOT A FLASH FORWARD THAT HAD BASICALLY EVERYTHING WE WERE HOPING FOR AND MORE
RAISED BOUNTY! MERYL GIRLBOSSIFICATION!! a hint at insurance society (tho that was more of a threat and she's still a journalist). MILLY CONFIRMATION!!! ERIKS' LACK OF ARM AND AMNESIA!!!! EARTH FLEET AND CHRONICA!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!
IT'S GONNA BE GOOD SEASON 2 IS GONNA BE EVEN BETTER I CAN FEEL IT IN MY BONE MARROW

Sometimes all I think about is the house elves storming the final battle IN THE NAME OF BRAVE REGULUS and I cry.
Kreacher going against Walburga and choosing Regulus’ as his master and fighting for the light?!?
Like I know there’s stupid ass discourse over Regulus’ stance even after he willingly died (a very painful death!!) just for the CHANCE of Voldemort’s demise, but in reality like it’s canon (still fuck jkr tho) that in the end Regulus side was against Voldy and all that he stands for?!?
I needed to share, I must bring someone along with me when I spiral over my baby girl Reg 🫶🏼
In the same way that a lot of people in this fandom struggle to perceive real life people as three dimensional, they fail to do so with characters; and Regulus, my sweet son, my good time boy, is a really good example of that.
In the books we get Kreacher telling Harry that Regulus was 'proud to serve', that he was happy about joining up with the Death Eaters; and even if we ignore for a moment that people are fully capable of putting up an emotional front for the sake of their survival, maybe he was! Maybe our Reggie was a purist, maybe he did call muggleborns mudbloods, maybe he laughed when Mulciber was a bully.
But it's made clear from what we hear from Sirius that he was raised in an environment that encouraged that school of thought. It's made clear from the state of Slytherin House even ten years after the end of the war that he never escaped being immersed in that school of thought, because the only person he canonically knew that spoke out against it was Sirius, who apparently hated him, and is implied to have harbored a degree of jealousy over Regulus being seen as a 'better son' - because however much Sirius might have hated his parents that's not something you complain about being reminded of unless you were hurt by it. Not twenty five years after the fact - and who ran away when he was sixteen; when Regulus was fourteen, or fifteen at the very oldest.
And even then. Even having grown up with only the one point of view pushed on him again and again. Even then, when Voldemort almost gets Kreacher killed, when it is revealed he's tampering with dark magic even Slughorn, head of Slytherin fucking House is wary of, Regulus' plan is to risk his life to get rid of it with the ultimate goal of Voldemort being defeated and killed.
Like SORRY but I do think sacrificing your life in the hopes of defeating the worst evil the wizarding world is facing at the time earns you a little grace and sympathy. I think making that choice at eighteen years old is probably enough to earn you some more nuanced consideration than 'oh his elf said he was happy to be a death eater and his very obviously scorned and speaking after twenty five years of not seeing him brother said he was soft so therefore he must have been evil and the fact he sacrificed his life as practically a child doesn't mean anything'.
Sorry! I'm sorry you're so boring. I'm sorry you don't think people can change and grow from their past actions. I'm sorry your sad little life revolves around being a fucking buzzkill and having no taste in narrative progression or nuanced character work. Sorry you're so attached to the barebones canon of a Literal Transphobe that you feel the need to be a bitch on the internet about other people having fun. Sorry. Not my problem though leave me and my boy Reggie alone.
Anyway. I love my boy Regulus. I love his codependent relationship with his weird house elf. I love that in the end the house elves of Hogwarts rose up in Regulus' name, not Albus fucking Dumbledore's, bc I'd bet anything those elves still remember the reserved little boy who used to come into the kitchens and watch them work and spoke to them all so politely.
Anyone who wants to talk shit about my boy square up for a fist fight.
Advanced warning that I cheat and I will bite you.

eh i feel like that analysis you rb’d misses the mark on gojo’s character tho … he goes the entire manga clearly being someone who thinks (the important) shit through and it’s kind of assumptive to say based on the last few chs he then rushes to the battle with sukuna because of his own flaws. i mean its just my 2cents but it’s realy interesting how we can all interpret things in such different ways, cause op of that post seems to say that gojo sending inumaki and panda to geto is based on a flimsy conviction, but i always interpreted that as him 1) knowing geto so well he has an unshakeable confidence that his plan would work and 2) being logical about his plan to the point of being cold (sending 2 of his students to get beat up or worse). i think that “logic to the point of being cold” has been the way i’ve interpreted many of gojo’s actions (esp since geto left, but he’s even brash with riko before he warms up to her). but anyway even if i don’t fully agree with op’s characterization i def don’t like that he’s taking on the role of the strongest yet again to the detriment of the narrative, and the man has a million unfortunate death flags regardless. to me this all has just read as shitty writing from gege, but even still, i feel like “gojo dying” or “sukuna dying” would be kinda a cop out ending to this fight. i want something more interesting and less predictable to happen but idk if incan ask that from gege lmfao. idk why im typing all this i love nuance and talking. i would love to hear ur thoughts if you have!!
pls forgive me im no good with words or responding to asks efdjksfjsdlhjgksdf but ill do my best 👍
i see what ur saying that the past few chapters seems shitty writing but the op of that post gives gege the benefit of the doubt that all of this was on purpose lol. gojo is a guy who thinks important stuff through which is why the past few chapters feel very ooc: him going on his own again, saying things would be better with gakuganji leading the higher ups, presumably him murdering the rest of the higher ups even though he said that would do nothing. these are all things that gojo outright refuted at the beginning of the manga or things that gojo learned wouldn't help him after hidden inventory. it all seems very counterproductive cuz none of these seem like things the gojo we know would do. its not necessarily the op's characterization but rather a possible explanation why gojo is acting the way he's acting
cause op of that post seems to say that gojo sending inumaki and panda to geto is based on a flimsy conviction, but i always interpreted that as him 1) knowing geto so well he has an unshakeable confidence that his plan would work and 2) being logical about his plan to the point of being cold
personally i disagree with this? of course that was him being logical to being cold but he said that was about trusting geto and geto responded "trust? i didn't think we had any of that left" or something like that. even if it was a calculated action on gojo's part there was always the possibility of something going wrong, especially based on something like trust that they had broken between them before. or maybe im reading what you said wrong? because i guess youre saying that it wasn't a flimsy conviction because gojo trusted geto, which in that case i think what the op meant wasn't that his belief in geto was flimsy, but rather had a flimsy foundation, because trust is something that can so easily be broken
but aside from that yes!! i definitely agree that it's not right that he's taking up the mantle once again and everyone is relying on him. it's a regression from what he said when he was getting sealed that he had faith everyone would be okay, and there is a recurring theme that being alone/doing things alone leads to ruin. i dont want gojo to die but i definitely want and expect him to lose, because otherwise it seems all his character development and all of this build-up was for nothing. i still think the end of jjk will result in an upheaval of restructuring of jujutsu society if not the eradication of cursed energy which i guess go hand in hand? and if gojo wins now he can just kill kenny and replace the higher ups with his people but in the end that wont make everlasting change in anything. im sure someone better and more well-versed in politics than i am can make the comparison with government and elections but as it is i might as well mention the metaphor (allegory? idk)
its not really fair either to any of the characters. gojo cant be relied on solely to fix everything especially when currently his solution lacks the complexity needed to really really fix things and seems to focus on whats directly in front of him. and like i guess thats par for the course his opponent is sukuna he kind of has to focus on whats ahead of him idk what his plan is for after that but like. idk what im trying to say 😭ANYWAY MOVING ON. its not just unfair to gojo to have everything on his shoulders, its also unfair to the kids to have everything on their shoulders. because as well as 'dont fight alone' its also been 'the problems of adults should not be children's responsibility'. if gojo dies then we come across this problem as well. so i agree with you i hope this battle doesn't result in either of their deaths but something more and better!!!
anyway i hope this is comprehensible 😭i love nuance and talking too feel free to ask whatever you want!! (but pls dont expect much intellect from me fjhajhfshjkfdjhfsfk)

Ook quick thoughts about episode 10 (SPOILERS, OBVS)
I’ve just finished watching and I have to say things. I’ve read the book.
Daemon and Rhaenyra reacting to Viserys’s death was sad. And obviously, they would think the greens slayed him now that they’ve gone.
Why would Daemon be so absent early in the episode. Woudn’t loosing Laena to childbirth be some sort of a trigger when he is finaly with Rhaenyra?
They cut so much shots from the break down on the beach. I feel like they wanted to bring back the Daemon we had in episode 1-2. To me, it doesn’t make any sens after episode 7 and 8. I thought he would be mourning Visenya as well…. Oh well.
Errik with the crown! And Daemon crowning his queen. Finally! 🙌
Daemon being sooo protective of his queen while Otto speaks to her ❤️ Loved seeing him toying with his sword and knife desperately looking at Rhaenyra for a signal. Chefs kiss.
And evrything went to shit
Don’t even get me started on the chocking. I get that he was upset. It was the last nail in the coffin. Viserys never gave Daemon the attention/love he was craving. In that moment, I also believe Rhaenyra reminded him of Viserys being a weak king (blindly preaching peace when war was inevitable). Yet it feels so out of character of him to fucking chocke her after the growth we have seen this season. They made it seem like they are fucking soul mates, afterall. My guess is that they needed to remind us who he is, deep down.
Regardless, I would say that when he tells Rhaenyra that Luce died, at least they seemed ok (?) I don’t know.
Lucerys and Jaecerys being so brave, my babies
I hate to say this (ecause Im a Daemon babe till the end) but Aemond looked so fucking good in this episode.
Loved the interaction between Luce and Aemond.
I have to question his intent while chasing Luce with Vaghar tho. What did you expect dude.
I’ve read the book and I hated Aemond with a fiery passion. Making it look like he didn’t intend to kill Luce is a nice touch, not gonna lie. It shows that even though he has the biggest dragon, he is not yet the best of dragon riders.
So they did make the greens less evil in the show, more nuanced. They made Alicent a victim in all of this. And now, Aemond accidently killed Lucerys.
But really, WHAT WAS YOUR INTENT, AEMOND? You were about to rip out his eye a moment before. Then you are chasing him in the storm FOR WHAT? Just to scare him? I need some explanation behind the thought process, dude.
That battle was great. I knew what was coming but then end still caught me off guard.
I wished…. I so wished that the season would end with Daemon’s famous line « an eye for an eye, a son for a son. Lucerys will be avenged. » Since they made Daemon so cold and war hungry this episode, I thought they would end it on that note.
And that my friend, is the beginning of the rise (and fall) of Rhaenyra Targaryen.
Overall I liked it, even tho Daemon seemed out of character quite a bit.
I bet they will begin Season 2 with the blacks being more evil than they are in the book. We’ll see.

I want Holly to get their happy ending. You'd think technology would advance enough for their friend to live to 96, but ugh wars. It would've been so 👀 for them to meet. If that makes sense
// but they DID get a happy "ending" -or no, it's a happy beginning. sorry anon this post got a little out of my hands, this is more of a general response to people wishing Hol got to reunite to Edmund.
// I don't write Hol's loss to the life they couldn't live just to make people sad. it's purposeful thematically and to hammer in the message of the story.
//this is hol now. they're goofing around, eating cake.
Tumblr media
[all images have a description in alt id]
Tumblr media
// the story has built up to this acceptance that we have suffered and we will die. this is inevitable, but as long as we have cake to eat we can carry on and enjoy the life we still have left.
Tumblr media
// While I'm not going into the nuances of Asgore's choice to declare war on humanity, the end result is the same. He took Hol's life. He took every single school day where Hol could of laughed and loved their new friends, every smile and every tear shared between a new community of friends and famliy who'd accept Hol for who they are. (well, to a point, Hol still has to deal with human society ofc).
// even tho Hol came back to life, that life is gone and taken. That is the price of the barrier, of Asgores choice (and monsterkinds) to declare and kill a child.
// Edmund dying at age 26 reflects that. He too, is a victim of war.
// I feel if he got to live through WWIII and to 96, that'd undercut the themes of the story. Yes, they would meet and he'd be relieved to find Hol is miraciously alive, but this isn't the same Edmund anymore. The Edmund that Hol befriended was a kid 90 years ago who offered them an umbrella when they tripped in the rain. The theoretical 96 year old Edmund would of lived 90 years of life and would hardly remember Hol. Hol will never get to grow up with him and be his friend.
// Chara had to let go of the past accept how trauma (and the natural passage of time) had replaced their sibling with a stranger -but a stranger who still loves them and is capable of so much growth and betterment that was never possible in the past. Like Hol, Chara had to accept this "rotten" part of themselves and accept the past and the inevitability of a painful future.
// i'd be doing both a disservice to the themes and Hol's loss if the two got to have a "happy reunion." not that it's bad anyone wants that! it makes me overjoyed to see people engage with the story and I just want to explain, or rather justify why the story is written so sad.
// If the two could of met, it honest to god would be traumatic to Hol, who at that point, would still be 6. They wouldn't have the emotional maturity to handle that loss of time if faced with it directly like that. As awful as it is, it's a small mercy they don't get to see how everyone lived without them directly. (The same can't be said for most of the other kids...)
// TLDR; it's to give weight to asgore's murders and war. the full extent of what death has done to these kids and their tragedies can't be scrubbed clean even with time magic and and revival.
// there's never going to a perfect timeline when the barrier exits. If hol didn't fall, there wouldn't have been enough soul power to break the barrier and Frisk would have either died or killed Asgore. Both in undertale and in this comic, one it's major themes is that when living, tragedy is inevitable! everyone lives and dies. it's a fact that no matter how many reloads or how hard you fight it, it's going to happen and has happened. You can't fix the world even with your God time powers.
Tumblr media
// Both Hol and Chara have to accept the loss of the lives they could of lived. Of how even the nice life they live now, will one day change for both the better and worse. You don't have control of this. You never did and nobody has ever or ever will.
// you will lose those you love. you will fall in love (platonic, romantic, something else, but it is all still a form of love) you will feel a million things and experience a million moments of everything. you will cry and you will sing and you will move on because that is what living is, moving from emotion to emotion through time.
it'll shape you in ways you can't fathom and you will wish and you will hurt and you will be so, so very happy you are here.
you don't have control but that's okay. we are here right now, and we will have forever existed in this moment.
Hol will never get to be with their friend Edmund again. But at one shining moment of time, a kid held out an umbrella to a kid who was close to giving up on the world as a whole. And that still matters, the impacts are forever and can never be removed.
// hol will be okay. edmund, while gone in the present, was okay too. we can't always have happy endings but life isn't about the ending, it's about what's happening and what's happened.

GOTG 3 Review (done by the characters I care about)
Disclaimer: I didn't watch the Christmas special
Peter: Has a complete alcoholism arc in the first ten minutes for some reason? It's implied he's been drinking a lot since Endgame and then, like 15 minutes in, he says out loud "This wouldn't've happened if I hadn't been drinking" and then that's just the end of it? My brother in Christ, this movie is 2 and a half hours long, maybe cut that bit aye?
He is very much just another character in this entry. Most of his lines could easily be given to Mantis or Nebula and nothing would really change. Chris Pratt looks visibly unenthused to be here most of the time.
(New) Gamora: Honestly, could've been left out of the MCU entirely since her death in Infinity War. Zoe Saldana is the best part of every MCU film she's been in.
In this film though, she starts off with the Ravagers >> maybe learns that she's a slightly better person than she thought >> goes back to the Ravagers.
She's basically just sort of "also there" for the whole film, and is often just acting as a foil for Peter's arc (which, btw, is realising that this woman who looks like his dead girlfriend isn't actually his dead girlfriend; a fact he already knows).
Idk man, it's weird. I think Zoe just contractually had to be in this one?
Rocket: Is very much the main character of this film, but spends a good two-thirds of it asleep. You mainly see him in flashbacks where he's being abused/experimented on by the film's villain.
It's a very classic James Gunn thing I think; take a small and helpless guy and make the audience empathise with him because of how small and helpless he is. I guess it's not super nuanced in that way, but it's not necessarily an unenjoyable story for him.
It was weird that they decided to give us his origin in what is apparently the final entry of this trilogy though?
Like, "you've loved this character for 9 years now and this might be the last chance you get to see him and his friends all together again! How about we have sleep the entire time and, instead, explain exactly how he became who he was when you met him 5 movies ago!". It's kind of just silly (Dan Harmon articulates this idea really well here at 0:35-0:51).
Nebula: Gets more screen-time and characterization in this film, still not the most interesting character tho :/.
I also don't think that Karen Gillian can act :(. Would much rather have OG Gamora over her
Drax: Still just relegated to unfunny comic relief. His thing in the first movie was that his culture didn't have metaphors and he was a little careless/happy-go-lucky; he wasn't an idiot.
Ever since then? He has exclusively been an idiot.
Don't care, but feel sorry that Dave Bautista still has to play this role, even though he does very well in it <3
Groot: Again, hasn't been interesting since the first movie. He used to be this sort of mysterious, ancient, gentle giant type of character, but he's basically been just a type of sci-fi set dressing in all the movies since then.
I know James Gunn has said he's a brand new Groot from the one we see in that movie, but it's like... why? Compare the scenes of OG Groot to literally any scene of Gunn-written Groot and tell me which one is the more interesting character.
Adam Warlock: Surprisingly good. Unfortunately, he's that same James Gunn character of grown-up person with the mind of a child (think Killer Sharl in Suicide Squad), but it kinda works in this? I like that they let Will Poulter keep his accent and I look forward to seeing him written by more competent writers.

ep32 (1/3): *through tears* xiao zhan is really good in this one
Tumblr media
dude this entire sequence is so heartbreaking I don't even care how wwx got into jinlintai. he's a genius I'm sure it wasn;t hard. but like! him being on the outside looking in! excluded! seeing his sister in horrible pain and knowing HE's the one who did that to her. desperately wanting to comfort her but what can he even say!!
Tumblr media
xl was so fucking good this episode. that is the face of a woman ravaged by grief but desperately keeping it together
jzx rly got fridged for a woman who got fridged immediately afterwards. not even significant enough for a firsthand fridging
Tumblr media
I don't much care about jzx's death, but this line is heartbreaking
Tumblr media
oh my god and his mom leaving and then breaking down when she's out of earshot of jyl. fucking brutal. her actress did amazing. there's so much grief here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this scene had me in tears what can you even say look at their FACES
Tumblr media
and ofc wwx is out of mind with grief, probably hasn't eaten or slept in days, continually dogged by the resentful spirits he's commanding, seeing visions of his sister who he loves more than anything else in this world....fuck
Tumblr media
and he wasn't even able to tell her to her face! and when he reached out she vanished! DEVASTATING. the fact that they both had visions of each other because they were so terrified/heartbroken about the thought of losing each other or of hurting each other. fuck
Tumblr media
we don't see wwx grab his abdomen like that often. assuming the resentful energy is acting up and hurting him without a core to mitigate the effects
Tumblr media
and here wwx is stone cold. cutting, callous, vengeful. it's quite a different aspect of him, one that I don't think we've ever seen before, not to this extent. we've seen him taunting and angry before, but this icy rage is terrifying. and it's wrong, on him. this isn't how he's supposed to be
Tumblr media
that look alone. whew
Tumblr media
even through it all he's so funny ugh. nobody did it like him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CHILLING. go get em wwx
the bodies of the wens are shown hanging here too, but they made me sad so I didn't get pics

you know what I love? the music swelling here is so heroic. epic and sweeping, clearly telling the tale of great warrior sects who joined to defeat a dark and devious evil. wwx appearing on the roof of the building laughing is a scene out of a far more simplistic wuxia. one where the good guys really are the majority and the people in power really do care about justice, the villains outliers and outcasts, cruel and shameless and unapologetic. the stage is being set so perfectly for the confrontation that will happen in a few hours, the one we saw at the beginning of the show. but we know at this point that there's so much more nuance than was initially presented
Tumblr media
oh shut the fuck up. stop having a moment I hate you two
Tumblr media
jc looks pretty upset this episode but until jyl runs in he doesn't do much besides look distressed.
Tumblr media
YOU MURDERED LIKE 50 INNOCENT PEOPLE YOU FUCK.
I guess technically jgs is also in mourning but I don't give a shit about his grief and I'm glad that nobody else does either
Tumblr media Tumblr media
godddd fuck wen qing 🥺 yeah jc you think about the consequences of your decisions
not that this is all jc's fault but I hope he feels guilty. though...based on how he acts postcanon, any guilt he's ever harbored has been either overshadowed by his rage and grief, or simply pushed aside since he doesn't want to confront the fact that maybe he could have acted differently
Tumblr media
looking disapproving and somber is also not helping. god you're all so useless
tho man. at this point I don't think much could be done
Tumblr media
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN. oh right he was running to BM and then running back to CR with a-yuan. but literally this entire showdown takes so long I am shocked he doesn't arrive to the pledge sooner
Tumblr media
THERE HE IS!!!!! appearing like a nightmare on a moonlit night, slouched arrogantly, appearing every inch the villain they call him. ah. delicious
Tumblr media
I love this scene so much because 1. it some of the most banger lines in anything I've ever seen and 2. wwx has been fairly unrestrained before but this is him at PEAK not-giving-a-shit. he's fully unleashing, giving just as good as he gets. I'm sure through the haze of grief and anger he was somewhat satisfied
he's just so horrifically alone up there
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh shut the fuck up nie mingjue
Tumblr media
the white paint they put on his face makes him look SO good im sorry my love i know you're having a mental breakdown but you look so so cool and ethereal and sexy rn
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
OH OHHHHH. okay I get it now. wen ning and wen qing went to turn themselves in. the other wens went along NOT to turn themselves in, but just to witness, and they were murdered too. still very stupid, but not as dumb as I thought initially
a lot of the dialogue in this show is delivered via rhetorical questions. I'm sure it makes it hard to write fic that sounds accurate. I've certainly never read anything with the exact cadence of canon

What did Sam Winchester do (irt your DNI?) I only watched like seasons 1-5 and I'm not particularly a fan of his but I'm curious what he actually did.
Where do I start skdjksjsk
Okay so I don’t feel like re watching stuff just to make a list, this going to be off the top of my head which means I will miss a few things because it’s impossible to enumerate all he’s done just like that
Also, disclaimer: SPN is bad. It’s not well written. It’s a shit show. It’s horrible. So it’s important to keep in mind that all of the characters are kinda shitty (except Charlie), but at some point it’s also how Sam’s been received by the fandom that made me hate him so much.
Okay so here we go:
The demon blood thing. Sam happily betrays Dean for no reason just because he feels like it. ALSO important note: addiction is not a moral failure. I’m not mad at Sam for getting hooked on demon blood, I’m mad at his entire attitude before and after
His whole “I love angels, angels are so cool I wish I could meet one” and then he meets angels and they’re all like “you should stop drinking demon blood” and suddenly Sam pivots and goes “fuck angels they’re all assholes” instead of doing some soul searching and thinking that maybe he’s doing something wrong
He left Dean with their father to go to college or whatever. And yes this is more nuanced and complicated because a child is never responsible for the actions of their abusive parent(s), but Sam does not once acknowledge or try to understand the impact of his departure. It’s very clearly insinuated that John beat the shit out of Dean when Sam left and Sam does not seem to give a shit about it despite knowing their father was violent
As the point above, it’s made clear Sam does not care about Dean as a whole, only when it affects him. Which - yes it’s a common thing with a few mental illnesses and it doesn’t inherently make him a bad person. But he refuses to see or grow or leave his bubble of selfishness despite seeing how distressed Dean is constantly and that does make him shitty at the very least
Again, to keep this point going: at some point Dean dies and goes to purgatory. Sam does not once look for him despite the bizarre nature of his death which could’ve been a good reason to search for Dean. Instead he goes to be with a vet and completely forget about Dean
The only time Dean dies and Sam seems to care long-term is in the Mystery Spot episode and even then the only reason he can’t speedrun grieving and moving on is because he’s forced to relive the same day over and over again so he can’t escape it
And yeah sure you can pull out a few scenes where Sam “cares” about Dean, but is it proportional to how much Dean cares about him? And is it enough to make up for all the scenes where he actively hurts Dean? Nope.
In the later seasons, Dean has a plan to lock himself in a coffin and throw it in the ocean because he’s possessed by Micheal and can’t allow him to go free. And of course instead of realizing how desperate Dean must feel to prepare himself to do this and how violent the psychological toll this choice has to have on him, Sam makes it all about him. My guy, DEAN is the one that’s thinking the only way he can save the world is to spend eternity in a coffin at the bottom of the ocean with Micheal, this isn’t about you! (Tho to be fair pretty much everyone makes that choice about them instead of trying to help Dean with the weight of it)
Little extra that doesn’t count as something Sam did but that still irks me: I don’t like the actor. I don’t think Jared is good and his acting pulls me out of the scenes. I genuinely don’t understand how no one is talking about that
Overall, Sam just refuses to grow. Fifteen seasons and he’s still just as unhealthily selfish as before, still thinks that what he feels is always right and therefore others are always wrong. His sense of superiority doesn’t waver, he hangs on to it like it’s the only thing keeping him always while Dean is actually the one pulling him up and killing himself trying to make his life the best it can be
Okay that one is just plain bad writing bc the SPN writers are raging misogynists so it’s not actually Sam’s fault but: Sam trying to convince a stripper to go to nursing school instead? Really?? Fuck off
I have vague scenes in my head where Sam is just straight up cruel to Dean and others but i can’t recall any of them in detail and yes to be fair Dean to has his shit moments where he’s a piece of shit but Sam particularly gets under my skin, it feels more vicious and willingly mean than a desperate reaction due to an outburst like Dean often has
I know there’s more than that, I once tried keeping count of all the times Sam betrayed Dean but stopped because it got too much and I wasn’t even through season one yet and yeah I know my hatred of him is probably affected by my BPD but even when I watch through a rational and analytical perspective, he’s still a character that I despise.
The main problem I have is that he’s supported by the narrative and the fans. That goes for Dean too in a way. Those people are not good people. They do more harm than good and I wish the narrative acknowledged that instead of pushing the “broken heroes” label on them when they do not fit it at all. They kill mercilessly and without nuance, seek out monsters even when they do no harm, start more apocalypses than they can stop. The bad writing only adds to the awfulness of it all and it’s important to remember why they’re being written like this and how it impacts their characters and the world they live in.
Maybe Sam could’ve been an at least interesting character if he had been well written, but I think we’re well past that. SPN was a bad show, so bad it’s fun to watch, but still bad. It wasn’t meant to be funny like it is, and it’s an important thing to keep in mind.
Anyways I hope this made sense and I wish I had a better memory so I could go in deeper details and put more examples, but really with the brain I have my ability to do this is kinda limited rip
Still, thanks for asking, this was fun to do and I’m always happy to complain about Sam and rethink back to my SPN days

fruk for the controversial ask game obvi
ooooohooohhohohohoooo thank you very much anon i was waiting for this!
!! disclaimer !! i have many different AUs with unique characterizations so im going to generalize a bit here, not every minor detail will be taken into consideration
who makes the important decisions? not who's generally more dominant, but life-or-death situations, who's calling the shots?
especially in a context where they've been together a long time, i think they equally do. if it has to do with their kids, i think it'd be Francis. stuff like where they live, buying a house, monumental decisions like that, or in dangerous situations, i think that's Arthur's domain.
more likely to have a criminal record? petty crime included.
again both of them lol this is a hard one. i know this is my own ask meme and i was the one to say be divisive. i will cautiously say Arthur slightly more likely but Francis probably does too
on that note, who's most likely to kill and get away with it?
Arthur could. Francis is conniving but too messy and his feminine wiles can only get him so far.
who would die to save the other, and who would put themselves first?
oh gosh this makes me sad. like many of these i can see it either way and i don't think one could live without the other!! Francis would absolutely die to save his kids, though, i can say that for sure. but that being said esp if they have a family, i think Artie would die in Fran's place
who's more level headed, and who's the emotional wreck?
easy one. even with his temper, Arthur is more sensible, and Francis is guided by his heart.
who's objectively more intelligent? it's okay, you can be honest.
i don't always characterize Francis as dumb but sometimes i do and i'm not afraid to say i think Arthur is generally more booksmart.
who's objectively more attractive and has the other worried that they're not good enough?
hah. i love this trope. i'm not saying Arthur is ugly, he can be strikingly handsome, but compared to Francis' ethereal, immaculate beauty, he often feels inadequate.
who's more manipulative?
hmm, Francis. he can be very manipulative to get what he wants, even without bad intent, whereas Arthur can be evil but it's often more outright.
who's more of a gossip?
Franny! he's such a blabbermouth and can be two-faced. Arthur isn't immune to gossip tho
more selfish? not superficially vain, but actually self-centered.
i believe Arthur is more selfish in the true sense of the word, even if Francis is confident and vain
who was a bully in high school?
hmm it really depends. i can see Fran as a mean girl, Arthur also has bully potential. they probably both were. sorry babes xx
who's more likely to be physically violent?
Arthur. i can't really see Francis hurting anyone that way, at least in human-verse (putting aside the fact they're literally nations at war lol)
overall, who's got the worst mean streak?
Arthur, sorry if i sound biased.
who's better with money and who's a reckless spender?
Arthur is more financially responsible, bordering on stingy at times. Francis isn't necessarily reckless (he can be materialistic) but he does enjoy the finer things life has to offer
who's the drunk and who's the enabler?
love this one. so obviously Francis is kind of a wino, but i don't really see him as an alcoholic in an addicted way. Arthur has BIG ALCOHOLIC ENERGY. sorry not sorry. that man is a drunk and Francis has to suffer through it.
who's more forgiving? (i.e. when they shouldn't be)
Francis, cause he's a sweetie (and a dummy)
what are their MBTI types? (16personalities.com if you're not familiar. if you have multiple characterizations, go with canon.)
i do have several diff versions of them in my fics so this is not super nuanced. generally, i will deem Arthur ISTJ and Francis ENFP. woah. total opposites?? i didn't even do that on purpose.
i had a lot of fun doing this!!! please don't hate me besties ok thank u again for the ask xx
