The Tale of Oshin - By Arhat (7.5/10)

A dragon-blessed queen with two powerful, handsome husbands? It sounds too good to be true, because it is. The King who loves her is a brand new ruler who used to be a barbarian, so he is surrounded by enemies. Her dragon husband is even worse. His godly powers are questionable at best. The magic eyes he gave her as a wedding gift don't even work that well. How will Oshin cope with power, with her meek personality, and two deeply flawed lovers?

Oshin is kind of dumb and pretty. Her mother was the same way. Both of them attracted countless men with their naive sweetness and beauty.

Oshin is a terrible Queen. It really shows. She doesn't command respect. She doesn't even punish people who do disrespect her, because she wants the palace to be peaceful.

Her first husband, King Naskaya, is always away at war too. The King is also close to a female aide named Suren, who is a genius strategist.

Oshin never speaks out against Suren...even though she currently has way too much sway in the palace.

Naskaya the former barbarian, who now has to step up and be a King, is madly in love with Oshin. This is very bad. He indulges her. He never forces her to learn. Oshin thinks she's an idiot, because she cannot follow along at war meetings...but that's because Naskaya refuses to teach her. He wants his wife safe, happy, and pretty. I'm not saying Naskaya is a bad person. It's very sweet that he cares deeply for Oshin, and her health and happiness....but he is a new King in a volatile land that doesn't fully accept him.

Oshin has no children yet.

Oshin gets captured by the Dragon...or the salamander. Oshin nursed a little salamander back to health...and it turns out that the little creature was her stalker.

I'm going to be clear here. Dragon is a very boring character who exists to make Naskaya jealous. I do not see his appeal, BUT he does give Oshin her powers.

The Dragon's Eye is a great blessing. Having Dragon Eyes can allow you to.

- read minds.

- see hundreds of miles away.

- see glimpses of the future.

It's an extremely OP power to have....if you're smart. Oshin isn't smart. She is am uneducated and spoiled wife with no confidence. Also, using the eyes too much makes you sick....so Naskaya doesn't let her use them much. Even when she wants to...

Naskaya is a big scary barbarian. He does allow Oshin to take the Dragon as her second husband, but he does it to protect her. He knows more people will bother his wife now that she has special powers. Only the Dragon can be trusted to be her bodyguard, basically.

He's way crueler when Oshin isn't around.

When she reads his mind briefly she sees that.

- Naskaya lusts after her to a scary degree.

- He's willing to kill his own family and friends to keep her as his wife.

The truth is to terrifying Oshin, who believed that Naskaya stayed with her out of obligation after he rose to power. He became King after their marriage, but she lived in fear of being tossed aside...because he was away so often.

It's hard for her to accept the truth.

Oshin has no children....because Naskaya doesn't want her to get pregnant. His mother suffered horribly over the course of multiple pregnancies. If Naskaya wasn't a King it's likely that he would have kept his marriage childless. He finds pregnancy as a whole disgusting and he doesn’t want to put Oshin at risk....even though she actually wants a child with him very much.

Suren knows Naskaya is a little crazy. She plans to take revenge on him.

Naskaya killed her true love while he was busy trying to become King.

So she wants his new country to fail.

The rage of a woman is just like that. A slow poison. She is a formidable enemy.

The Dragon doesn't even appear for ten chapters its hilarious. Also most of the time when Husband #2 is on screen Naskaya is jealous in the corner. The Dragon did stalk Oshin as a salamander, but he's not very intimidating.

It's neat that Oshin has to grow up and demand her Queenly rights. It's neat that Naskaya is overly doting to the point of insanity but the Dragon is reaaaallllyyy boring and the art isn't great.

I don't have any rules and no master list yet! But I'm glad you decided to send this ask! As a fellow King-starved OP fan it can be quite hard to find any content about him, especially as a Yandere, like- why, it works so well with him!! As for bedroom headcanons, I wrote this a while ago. Not exactly a straightforward answer to your question but still, I think you'll get the answer yourself. Also, I managed to fit some backstory about King😅 (most of it is actually his backstory) but I promise it explains his... yandareness... my writing style is different but I hope you'll like it. More ideas about this AU have come to me as I was working on this, so let me know if I should write part 2... Anyway, hope you enjoy this!

Warnings: Spoilers for King's real name, his backstory, kidnapping, closed-off character, murder, arson.

No matter where Alber goes, there will always be a certain darkness following him, the darkness that began surfacing inside of him ever since he became a research subject at Punk Hazard. The memories of warmth are lost to him, his family members, their faces, their love, traditions- everything from his past turned into shadowy figures that visit him in the dead of night, where he laid bare on his back, defenseless and unable to move an inch.

Alber experiences, no- has experienced those lonesome nights too many times after his escape, with Kaidou at his side, passed out drunk, there was only so much he could do under the night sky, as the sweat rolled down his chin, awake and stricken with fear, haunted by the nightmarish masks and white coats. The extreme heat lingered under his skin, with no scars to show the battles he survived on the Punk, though he could still feel the consequences of others' actions.

Each day his loyalty to Kaidou grows and so does his disdain for the people they have met on their journey. Days and months soon turned into years, years he has spent becoming stronger, years he spent with Kaidou, he has to catch up with him, perhaps matching up to his strength, but that is reaching too far, for Kaidou is strong, stronger then he'll ever be. Each second his world shrinks down to only the hero, who had saved him, his vision is blind to the islands they traveled to and conquered, blind to the beaten-up bodies they defeated. The colors of his environment blur together, lost to the intriguing laugh of his captain. He stares after the huge back, a back which he has to fill with his own will and strength, He is no longer Alber, for the boy was a shadow that no longer belonged to his body, weak, only confident in his endurance, a prey waiting for salvation. The worthless name stood on empty grounds, a new title was given to him.

He tries his best and this time, his best is enough for the man he idolizes (He has to thank his biology). He backs up his captain and engraves his name onto the burnt enemy's back, King. He takes pride in his new title, fit for Joyboy's first-mate.

He is no longer Alber. He is now the predator that the scientists have tried to research and avoid. He puts on a nobles mask, made of the finest leather. He puts on a new identity, on that day, on that land, a monster was born, a monster that happened to burry its emotions into the depths of the ocean.

King smiles.

Even after their crew gets big, annoying comments from Queen are met with aggressive glares, his facial features are hidden behind a dark mask that's acting as an intimidation factor, he holds the crew together purely for Kaidou, there is no respect tugging at his actions, sentiment hasn't had a place in him for some time now. What he first felt when he met Kaidou only brings so much to the table, so little emotion, aside from authority. The dark grows, and even if he is emitting an eternal fire, ebony covers his frames, cooling the heat and leaving him in the chilliness of The Beast's shadow. In utter darkness.

King kills, tears the bodies up, and burns them until not even the bones remain. All he does is stare down at the screaming faces, staring them down as they did to Alber. All he sees is the red light coming from the burning village. The smell of rot follows after him as he walks down the streets of an unnamed island.

In a small cottage at the end of the town, he feels a presence hiding from him. Away from the door which he bursts through. He doesn't waste his time as he strides into the person's house, in a place he can see their shaking silhouette. His steps are loud in his tiny bubble, with no fire or scream entering his field of hearing, he doesn't hear the door shut itself, but he can feel the breaths that left the person's nose, and can hear the vibrations caused by their shaky figure across the floor. In the dark of the room, he opens a cabinet to find scared!you.

And his field of vision, which was locked onto Kaidou all this time, shifts. It gets bigger as he stares into your scared eyes, glossed over with tears trickling down your face, your expression is drowned in fear as you look up at him. Unknown to the feelings running through him.

The feelings, the emotions he buried long ago now seemed to resurface, looking at your sweat-covered forehead, his eyes travel over your form, they remain frigid, even as his heart rate speeds up, even as the world around you becomes darker, even as his breathing becomes heavy.

Up until now, only Kaidou existed, for Kaidou. With Kaidou. Now the narrow view of him widens as you, a mare civilian join the everlasting space that exists inside of him. Your eyes so bright, filled with fear attract him. Your face shape, so tender and beautiful. You are the only color that exists in the dark, the only light in the endless tunnel.

The house is dark, but you emit light, you stick out even when he has stopped using Observation Haki. You make him feel warm in a way that he has never experienced before.

His heart is beating faster and faster the longer your eye contact lasts, his wind was knocked out of his lungs by the time he moved.

As he takes you by your arm, you stay quiet in fear of what he could do, quivering as he wraps his fingers fully around your arm. Your legs are frozen, acting like dead meat when he drags you out of the untouched house, they barely move when you realize the situation you got into.

He doesn't answer your questions of what he is doing or where he is taking you, his ears only picked up your voice, so angelic and clear in the sparks of fire that lit your garments, your skin and hair shining in beautiful reds and yellows, though he would enjoy seeing your natural colors. In a setting much cooler, and less tragic than this.

His world warps once again, he doesn't falter when Jack tosses a strange look his way as he gets closer to their ship.

He remains unaffected by your insults and weak attempts to set yourself free from his grasp. His natural strength is much greater than yours will ever be.

He ends up taking you to his room, barely remembering the path he took to get there and the faces he must have come across. He only lets go of you when the door is locked.

honestly, how talk abt them to friends sometimes arent my actual characterizations of their dynamic/relationship. But really they're spinning in my head like a microwave everyday, so my interpretation of them of them generally change depending on settings, aus, or just my mood.

The thing that draws me to them is the fact that Fanny seems like a loyal solider(quite literally), but to where she'd definitely throw herself off a cliff for her leader/command(for rachel only really.) Meanwhile Rachel is pretty oblivious to the length Fanny would go for her – and visa versa. They're devoted to each other, yet are scared to repair their fractured friendship at the same time(mostly on fanny's side).

Honestly idk how to explain it xjsb

also the fact Fanny was Rachel's runner up for her GOT fuels me everyday, cause besides this moment, we don't really get too many moments where rachel isn't pissed at fanny for reasons.

could just be her being harsh as it comes with a leader, cause welp, fanny does fuck up a lot. But with these interactions you'd think Rachel wouldve considered ANYBODY else – besides nigel – for her second choice. so 1000000000% rachel had to have ALOT of trust in Fanny to place her as a second in command of an entire global organization, despite her trackrecord of botched missions(which, honestly i believe is why Nigel had been Rachel's first choice, because while nigel had seen mostly sucess in his teams' mission, fanny had gotten the short end of the stick and just faces failure after failure from what we've seen.)

uhhh anyways!! Fanny fell first(unknowingly) amd by the time they become teenagers, Rachel ends up falling harder and depressingly misses her GOT while she's suffering in TND orientation.

TLDR: a shitty anaylsis(barely) on how loyal moonbabes are to one another and they have trust!! I'm not normal about them

It's technically split down the middle between Rachel and Fanny, but my focus usually flipflops. So this week we got:

Rachel: for reasons, honestly, I loved her since i was a kid. There's a lot to disect about her, and i love that, love her position, her personality, the kind of the role she plays, etc etc idk how to explain any of jt, or the specfics so you get this short ass summary instead

-also headcanon: her relationship with Harvey is rather strained, so Rachel tries to make it up to him by favoring him when it comes to mission assignments when he joined the KND, he also struggles to get her approval by completing them

Fanny: ashamed to admit, i cannot sit through a fanny episode withoht needing to pause and pace around – but like rachel, i like pretty much everything about her, she's interesing to disect as so much of her background is left up for interpretation. Like why did ahe join ths decommissioning squad? Why is she the way she is? Because of the decom squad or her time as a nurse, or just life in general bxns?

-headcanon: Her real name is Francine, and Fanny's a nickname because she thought it sounded less mature and didnt put too much thought in it's meaning in Ireland cuz she didnt live there that long (also her mother didnt have the heart to sit her down and explain it to her at her young age)

other global ops dont bat an eye to it, unfortunately Irish operatives cringe everytime they hear her name.

3. Chad is a loser. A failure. And i love him for that/j but actually, his entire character is interesting, and so much is left in the air for me to dig my teeth into and make up shit for him. One major headcanon i've convinced myself of for him is that he's related to rachel/harvey (cousins???)

-another hc: he's on the aromatic spectrum(shout to friend Amber for the idea cmdb)

4. Cree love her. I can forgive a woman of her crimes always xmsn one reason she's high up on the my list this week is she's interesting(duh), but like all the others she has so much character/info on her but little bits not filled to where i can just make up shit- canonically, i love her role, hsr character, she's an amazing villian/antagonist steals the show everytime - i'd pay warburton with my own money to write what she was like as a KND operative, she is quite skilled from the bits we've witnessed in flashbacks and in the present. One thing that runs through my mind is that Warburton in a Q&A, hinted that Cree probably wouldnt have scouted by the TND, that she was already trekking on a dark path while in the KND. BSJDB

-Headcanon: her and chad and steve have nights where they just hangs out and they watch stuff on Adult Swim. She probably likes South park

5. -362 and -86, got nothing to abt thene beyond they're silly(and possibly evil)

Least favorite Character/Ship

To be honest, i got no hate towards any of the characters in KND, they're all really interesting in their own way.

Truuueee and honestly

I wanted to give The Redemption Squad more character. Since I put the ask redemption squad, theres very little about them, which I’ll try to focus on as well, each of them will have their own lore. Starting by my interpretation of their figures. This also follows up with that one ask of why Chosen is so big and bit funny looking. I haven’t grown buff guys in a while.

Chosen - Yes, he is big. A freaking walking Bulldozer. He’s most likely an OP TANK. I gave him a prison/Miguel O’Hara/Captain America bod. A powerful beast but a gentle soul (sometimes) He already gone past his hatred to Alan and tries to live peacefully and redeeming himself along with three others. This doesn’t mean he’ll stop using his powers and fight when a cause happens and CG needing him. He mentors Second with his powers once a week. His preferable weapons are his fists and powers. Even though MT and Dark made him gauntlets so he wont feel left out.

Navy - has a veteran/gladiator figure. His body is a bit similar to Chosen but smaller. Lost his arm in one battle (after he left Pink and Purple) so he uses a prosthetic that makes it look like he didn’t lose a limb in the first place. If noticed by few text from previous posts, he mentioned he was in a clan, and that he also has powers. Not powerful like the Hollowheads, but enough to help him in battle. He has gotten over of trying to force Purple to be strong, but he have not talked to Purple as he feels he’s not ready to face his son yet. His choice of weapon is a Great Sword. And the name NAVY is his alias he goes by, His real name is Royal Blue.

Mango Tango/King/MT - I see him having a tall but bit skinny figure. He’s not buff like Navy and Chosen, but he is exceptionally strong. He’s already intimidating by his height alone. He still feels guilty of what he done to the CG and to Purple despite them saying they forgiven him. He just feels the need to redeem himself, he and purple are in better terms and now have a father - son relationship. Purple calls him Baba and Mango spends time with Purple once a week. Sometimes when talking, Mango will kneel down by one knee to hear better and he feels guilty since the person he’s talking too aches their necks (He does it to Dark and Red sometimes). His choice of weapon is the Minecraft staff, Dark had it made for him through his blueprints and altered two Minecraft blocks by coding. He’s somewhat the Mage/Jack of all trades of the group.

Dark - his body reverted back to how he was created by Alan at the beginning. Smallest of the group but tallest to Purple and CG. He doesn’t remember the Showdown and the progression to the point of the Virus (Like Amnesia). He’s most open and got along to Mango and Navy very quickly. Although to Second and CG not very much. Despite his amnesia, Dark still has his love of bugs and coding, which explains he got close to Mango faster since they shared interests. His powers a now a mix so its new change for him as it does not make the same outcome when he had his powers. His choice of weapon are Vira blades/Kusarigama, he recreated his bracelets (muscle memory) but did not include the Delete Code property. As I said, the powers he has are new.

Things that went through my head while watching this episode: --This was a great episode to notice during the OP that in the clip right after Muichiro throws the sword and Tanjiro goes rushing forward in a strike presumably with that sword, you can see Yoriichi in the back lined up next to Tanjiro--almost like the pose Tanjiro strikes with Pillars in the OP! (Hmm, how are they going to do that for the Pillar Training Arc?)

--Kanamori, in some not very well-placed exposition, says that Tanjiro asked him to be understanding of Muichiro, and that is why as Muichiro's new swordsmith, he looked into who used to smith his swords. First of all, when? We only saw Tanjiro interact with Kanamori the day or two before this all goes down, but Kanamori already has Muichiro's new sword ready and stashed away in the same shop where Haganezuka is busy putting his life on the line for polishing a sword even before Gyokko shows up. The first we see of Tanjiro even hearing of Kanamori being responsible for Muichiro's sword is when Muichiro woke him up maybe an hour or so ago. This means Tanjiro had to have known this and had an opportunity to talk to Kanamori long before he even witnessed Muichiro in the Swordsmith Village. Perhaps Tanjiro brought it up as general advice to Kanamori who expressed feeling pressure for being assigned to a Pillar, and Tanjiro just wanted to be encouraging to him based on what little impression he had of Muichiro at the Pillar Meeting and whatever he heard from Shinobu (and Shinobu did tell Tanjiro Muichiro's name, at the very least). But also, perhaps Kanamori started this endeavor to understand Muichiro after completing his first sword for him, because Tanjiro only said this to him yesterday? In which case, was this truly a matter of Tanjiro seeing that Muichiro is in need of that kindness, or was it Tanjiro throwing his hands up and saying, "I don't know what to make of him, you try!"

--And that, friends, is how you can dig too deep into canon to find fanfic ideas.

--Kotetsu-kun truly is a brave kid whose response to seeing his friends in pain was to attack instead of run away. I love how close-knit everyone in the village is, they all know (and recognize!) each other by name. --Muichiro is the kind of person who would walk around a modern art museum saying, "I could do that." Kotetsu would be the one saying, "but you didn't." Gyokko, of course, is the worst of modern artists. There must be a modern day AU which Gyokko leans a bean in Chicago and Muichiro starts a "paint the bean pink" event.

--Gyokko deserves some credit here for his cleverness! Although what Muzan would have preferred is Gyokko finding Ubuyashiki or the blue spider lilies, Gyokko has honed in the Corp's weapons and focused his efforts on eliminating those. Maybe he was merely lucky to have found a clue about the village, but he developed a technique, I assume specifically, to deprive swordsmen of their Breath.

--Being taunted for having "a dull life" and an existence with no meaning sure adds weight to that "I was born to be happy" statement. --Kimetsu Academy answered some of my wishes by having Uzui-sensei and Gyokko hang out and talk art, but what I really want is to see Shinobu see those fishes.

--I love the BGM and sound effects for Love Breath. Mitsuri is just so special, you guys. I love hearing her in this Taisho Secret showing off her sword skills to Tanjiro & Nezuko, and a sound that lives in my head rent free is the the sound she made in the previous episode's Kimetsu Academy short as she falls to her knees. --One of my favorite background characters in this whole series is the guy who tried to protect Tecchin by charging at the fish monster with a naginata. ----First, naginata. I have bias. ----Second, such upstanding character! That is not a man who runs away even when the swordsmen have been slain. ----Also, while Tecchin and the other guy who got his head bumped are shameless in fishing for Mitsuri's care and attention, this is the guy who had the view up her skirt and who made no mention of it whatsoever. ----That might be because he was so rightfully distracted by the sight of her sword instead, and he gave us some smoother exposition with which to appreciate it. --Another random thing, but I love the nighttime lighting in this season! The BGM in general feels more experimental and sometimes takes me out of it (opposed to how the Yuukaku spin plunged me deeper into it), but when it slaps, it slaps, like on the new variation as Tanjiro attains a lightsaber Red Blade. Also also, there are a lot of characters in this one with peculiar and kind of old-timey ways of speaking (Kanamori, Tecchin, Hantengu's clones, etc.) that are still distinct from other characters (like Rengoku). I don't know how much of it comes across in translation, but my ears enjoy the extra characterization.

--I love--and the first time I watched this, my friends loved it too--how Nezuko and Tanjiro take turns carrying each other when they lose consciousness. It keeps the pacing fast and desperation high, while also illustrating their bond really well. What also gets me is how Tanjiro frets and tells her to let go of the sword because her fingers will get cut. It doesn't feel like a big concern because we know she's already lost a forearm and being impaled through through the torso and neck tonight, but any reasonable brother doesn't want to see his sister's fingers cut off, much less sliced with a sword at all.

--I love how Sekido is the only demon around here whose perspective is worth anything

--Quickly jumping to the end of the episode to note how we see the base of Aizetsu's neck and the top of his head still intact, so that implies that Genya munched on the bottom half of his head. In general I'm not much into ship content, but I know there is a fandom for Aizetsu and Genya out there, and I do find the idea of it being one-sided infatuation on Aizetsu's part an amusing premise. With that in the back of my mind, I could also imagine Aizetsu mistakenly thinking Genya was going to make out with him and how quickly and shockingly he'd have his hopes dashed. --Okay, so, HINOKAMI KAGURA WITH A RED BLADE AND THE MARK, TIME TO DIAL UP THE ANIMATION

--And they do

--And it's so sad Haganezuka doesn't get to see it --Like, after how much the fight with Rui blew up and the internet collectively lost their minds, we tend to just expect this from Ufotable, so the beauty they accomplish doesn't always stick out because they have to work harder and harder to stand out from what they've already given us, but this attack on Karaku, Urogi, and Sekido is a thing of wonder and it is highly worth appreciating.

--The lighting! The fluid motion and changing camera angles! But also the ability to show changes in expression, and to differentiate Tanjiro in the marked state from his usual state.

--But, again, the timeline has me in knots. Tanjiro says he was "always" thinking about that last strike on Gyutaro and how it felt different, but when would he have had time to do that, since he's spend so much of his wakeful life, like, fighting for his life against a mechanical doll? He's of course had downtime, but given the Taisho Secret in the hand-out at the early Mugen Ressha showings, I suspect comatose Tanjiro spend a lot of time analyzing and replaying that moment and doing image training. --On the first watch, when Tanjiro is thinking about how his will is tied with that of everyone around him, and even if he can't do it, someone else will take over for him, it's easy to get wrapped up in "THAT'S RENGOKU" or "this is foreshadowing all the hands in that truly final battle with Muzan!" but, I can't wait to think back to this scene when he's talking to Giyuu in the next season. Giyuu is the first person he thinks of, but also, Giyuu's hand is absent from among the ones on Tanjiro's back.

RW//BY, as a show, is… I’m going to say it, actually really racist. Is it the most racist thing ever? No. Fuuck no. Not even close. But I’d daresay at least half of it is riddled with some of the most appallingly ignorant shit I’ve seen in any webseries, and yet… some people will go out of their way to harass any who dare to criticize it.

Remnant is not real. The characters I am about to discuss are not real. But the writers who wrote these characters and the world they inhabit are very real, and the shit they wrote fucking disgusts me.

so. Rant begin.

Something the crazies of the fandom will say (I say crazies because, the fandom isn’t all like this. many of you guys are chill and cool as fuck) in defense of RW//BY’s many problematic aspects, particularly the criticism of “75% of the show’s POC and minorities are villains”, is that “well, there’s a lot more POC and minority’s on the GOOD GUY side now! Hooray!”

And they’re technically right. I like Elm and Pietro and I love Maria (in V6 especially she was fucking golden) and Marrow. Them and all the other POC they’ve added in as of V6-7~ are, in my opinion, mostly great additions to the cast.

The side cast.

The thing that isn’t usually pointed out is that these characters… they are side characters. Pietro and Maria are side characters. The Ace Ops and Happy Huntresses, while playing a decent role, are side characters.

Hell that extends to pretty much every POC character we’ve gotten aside from Oscar. They’ve been side characters. Many of whom, we likely won’t see again (Until Volume 10… if RT lasts that long)

But I want to mention one thing. We didn’t start getting characters that weren’t blinding white until the end of V2 and the start of V3.

One of these characters in question I’d like to point out, Flynt Coal.

I like Flynt. He’s fine. I think his design is cool. But to deny that his character isn’t extremely racist is ignorant.

One of their first. Black characters. Was basically named… “Dark rock, Dark Rock”…

and his weapon is a TRUMPET😭

Not only that, but he and Neon fight Yang and Weiss in the tournament. Let’s talk about Weiss actually. She is the second oldest child to the megarich Schnee family, whom owns the SDC, which she is heiress to. Earlier in the series she acted extremely racist towards characters of an in-universe minority group, and never really apologized on screen. Instead, we’re given justification for why the rich girl is racist. She’s scared because of the White Fang! Poor little German name “White Snow.”

Anyways, back to the fight. Flynt mentions how it was the SDC who put his father’s own company out of business in their monopoly. Does this go somewhere? Nooooo he’s a side character, who’s beaten by Weiss and her bestie by the end of the battle.

How come they made one of their first black characters fight and lose a battle with their whitest richest character? (Obs not implying he should’ve won, just asking why they chose him in the first place) How come they named him after black rocks(which is in reference to how, in a minecraft letsplay, one mentioned the name “Flynt Coal” and another replied “He’d have to be a black guy!”)?

Who knows. But surely this is the last time they’ll make a (minority) character be positioned oppositely from our mains. Surely they won’t ever write one as a villain!

Surely she won’t be the Lakota girl, either!

Ilia as a character was a big stepping stone (at the time) in terms of RW//BY’s representation. She was the first canonical, on screen LGBTQ+ character. She was a member of the White Fang who, before joining, was able to “blend in” with humans due to her Faunus trait not being as noticeable, being spots on her face and along the rest of her body. Ilia was orphaned due to her parents dying in an SDC mine collapse, and when she saw her school friends laughing about it, she “punched their teeth out.”

Hell, overall I really like Ilia. Her design is adorable, as LGBTQ+ rep I think she’s good enough (though the fact they wrote their first lesbian character to be… a villain, is a talk for another day), and overall I find her decently written on her own. Plus, she’s fun as hell to write. Love her dearly.

On her own. Because in the story, the more I think about it… the more I’m sad, and mad, about how she was handled.

Firstly. Her name. Apparently it’s supposed to mean “Butterly Rainbow” (again, naming your first lesbian girl “rainbow” lol)… but nope. They got the name Amitola off a baby named website, when it really means something closer to “Like a blue sky.” From my understanding. Typical RT shenanigans. It gets worse :3

Ilia was also one of the very few villains in the show to be redeemed. How was she redeemed?

By being told by the much-more privileged, whiter minority girl whom she had a crush on that what ilia was fighting for was Bad. How Ilia was fighting for it was Bad. The White Fang? Baaaad. How dare the MINORITIES FIGHT WITH NEEDED VIOLENCE for their basic living rights against the POOR WIDDLE OPPRESSORS! It’s THEIR fault they’re oppressed, because they’re making the humans uncomfortable and angry! They need to just keep their dirty mouths shut and be good, presentable minorities.

And upon being redeemed, Ilia is immediately put on a bus. Shelved.

And let me remind you again. Who was redeemed through being told by her much whiter (I say whiter in a way not to demean Blake btw, as privileged as she is she is still a minority obviously. Just… stating facts) friend that “a minority Shouldn’t use violence against their oppressors for their rights. It’s Their fault the humans are still so racist towards them. The Faunus should stop being so aggressive and be peaceful”?

Not only the lesbian character, but…

The indigenous girl.

The.

Indigenous.

Girl.

I’m sure I don’t need to point out how fucked this is. Let alone the fact this whole show is written in fucking Texas.

It’s no secret, as much as some try to make it be, how horribly Native Americans and indigenous people have been treated throughout history. The oppression they have faced stems back centuries. Their land and home was stolen from them.

Their own culture was all but forcefully eradicated.

Men, women, children, were all genocided.

To this very day it’s all they can do to fight for not only their own rights as people, but the very lands that were stolen from them.

So for this show to write… it’s Indigenous

WOMAN

‘s character being “redeemed” by learning “Peaceful protest is good, violent protest for your living rights bad!” is… sickening. Genuinely. Fucking. Sickening.

But maybe that violent protest WAS bad! Maybe, it was going nowhere and really causing the problems. Who the hell would ever try and implement that? Who leads the White Fang?

…You wanna know?

Don’t bother.

Sienna is a character we see for. One. Scene. One scene and she’s GONE. dead, stabbed, thrown down some stairs. We know very little about her, but we know a lot of her actions.

Under her rule as high leader, she got shit gone. Through her use of violence against the oppressive humans, she did in five years what many before her couldn’t in decades: Her methods were working. Her people were being given rights.

But noooooooo!!!!!!!!! We can’t have the Woman of Color in power be CORRECT. Her methods were WRONG, MONSTROUS! How dare she end slavery and fight against oppression?! She should’ve just asked NICELY! Just like Blake told—

Wait… Blake? BLAKE?!

BLAAAAAAAAKEEEEE!!!!!

Blake is one of 4 main characters in RW//BY, and she was easily my favorite. Fierce and a bookworm, an ex-freedom fighter who was quick to call out Miss Rich “White Snow” on her bullshit. She was fun, strong, and like the show said itself, she was Feisty.

I miss that Blake, tails. I miss her a lot. I’ll be back.

Nowadays, that feisty personality she has has been diminished so she can be all meek and quiet and sweet for her white human friends.

(and just now in v9, she’s completely fine with being referred to as an animal. Sienna in honorary heaven: she would not fucking say that.)

White fans and likely the writers themselves were too uncomfortable having to face that all majority people still benefit from a society built on and from deep systemic racism, so they wrote Blake to be an All Lives Matter doormat so she was more palatable Blake saw the error of the White Fang’s ways and how their justified acts of violent protest against the privileged majority were making the humans SCAWED🥺, so she stood before them all and put her status as literal Faunus princess to good use: telling all those like her who’d suffered beneath the humans’ oppression that they were wrong. How could they fight back violently? They did this to themselves. They brought the oppression, the enslavement, the bigotry and cruelty upon themselves because they just didn’t play nice enough.

Fuck, even when she’s in the “City of Racism” Atlas, she’s too busy being uwu sad and nervous and having to rely on others (funny how instead of ever empowering her again, they write Blake as this submissive docile flower baby immediately after hey reveal she was an abuse victim. Real fucking funny. Laughing my eyes out of my skull with a toothpick.) except for when she jokingly comments how rich the Schnees are and how they own basically everything.

Past Blake wouldn’t be laughing about that. She’d use it against the Schnees, rightfully.

But we can’t have that. She’s the good minority, who keeps her mouth shut tight and looks pretty for the camera.

But… about that bigotry. That oppression, that racism… do we ever see that?

We hear of how horribly the Faunus people are treated. Controversial labor forces that keep them as slaves to the SDC. Treated like dirt and beaten and killed and lynched.

We hear. We hear of that.

In the show, we get… a No Faunus sign put out in some background places. And the equal opportunist bully bullying a bunny girl.

That’s it. Background shit. Background shit that could easily be interpreted differently, or missed completely if you fucking blink.

There has only been one point where the true extent of this oppression is shown to us. One point which…

we’ll fucking get to.

But there’s one thing I’ve mentioned rather frequently throughout this rant. Two, technically. The Schnee family and the SDC.

Let’s talk. Let’s. Fucking. Talk.

*sighs*

So this show demonizes it’s fictional worlds only freedom fighting organization, so surely they do the same for the oppressive Amazon company that has a chokehold on the economy of an entire—

In the early volumes, Weiss, another main character, was extremely racist to those who were Faunus. She was also the daughter of the Richy Rich Bitch Family of “CEOs of Racism”. Her older sister was a cop, her younger brother out of the picture until V4, her mother a neglectful abusive alcoholic (she is a victim too but neglect. is. abuse.), her father a racist abusive asshole who looks like I could break him like a bendy straw. But her racism isn’t her fault at all! No, the dirty minorities in the White Fang who were terrorizing the richest of the rich were what made her racist. It was never her fault, only the scary minorities.

How dare the marginalized be so evil.

But she apologizes off screen and is no longer racist! Yippee! At least we marked “Racist” off her “Racist Blood Purist Rich White Weiss” card! she’s White Savior Blood Purist Rich White Weiss now! Now we can make fun of how much shit her family owns.

But before all that, she and her girlfriend battle… a black man! Gasp! Who… says before the fight, her family’s company put his family’s business OUT of business!

A throwaway line before he and his bestie get beaten. Also just realized as I type: not only did Weiss battle a black character who was affected by her family company’s monopoly, but… a Faunus. Another one for the jar.

B-But Blake knows Ilia was affected by the SDC, too! It orphaned her, because in their mines Faunus weren’t given nearly as much safety. Surely she can tell Weiss and have her see—

*Ruby voice* nope. Nope! Ilia was being violent for equality, and that’s no good. So she learns that all their oppressors (likely including the SDC)are really just SCARED of them! So she’s redeemed and becomes peaceful. The Lakota indigenous girl is turned “good.”

But maybe once they’re in Atlas—

Jokes are made about how FUNNY LOL XD it is that her family owns so much, and they’re appalled by how… literally fucking normal Mantle is, as if it’s just an utter travesty to their eyes. She doesn’t want to outright abolish the corrupt SDC, which basically rides on Atlas like a parasite, but instead free it from the dirty-blooded clutches of her father, and return it to the Pure Blooded Schnees, who will use it righteously, in Santa Schnee’s name!

She’s the granddaughter of a hero, after all. A hero who monopolized and capitalized the world’s resources and began a chokehold on an entire kingdom with how vital the Resources became, all the while implementing minority slave labor.

Because we can’t have our pretty princess Weiss face any consequences. We can’t have one of ours mains face consequences. Realize her privilege and try and do something. We can’t make our writers uncomfortable!

And this extends to Winter, too! The woman as racist as Weiss was, but without the “”excuse””, who is also a cop, and who… punches, kneels over one of the characters who is both an in-universe minority of a Dog and easily the darkest skinned character, and tells him; “You want a collar? Fine.”

But the Pure Blood Schnees are good. They’re beautiful and powerful. Even if Weiss has that scar, it’s as tiny as can be so to not ruin her pretty face. Let’s give the rich white family all the angelic imagery. Let’s show Weiss with wings.

Twice. Twice with white, huge and glowing angel’s wings.

Looking pure and holy. Pure. And. Holy.

But Angel imagery? Surely there’s a contrast. Demonic imagery: like the horns, black and red, something to do with darkness and the moon, who should that belong to? If the rich, white, blood purist main girl Weiss gets the angel wings, pretty face and princess aesthetic… who deserves to be the demon of Remnant?

…Oh, I know the answer to this one! It’s—

Throughout this whole post, there’s been one character I’ve purposefully neglected mentioning by name.

Adam.

We didn’t see the guy much. Black trailer, V2, V3, V5, V6. And he was really only reoccurring in V5, which… 😶

But from what we did see, we saw the Face of the White Fang. We saw someone who did bad things for the right causes. We saw someone who despised his oppressors, but who seemed to care for his fellow Faunus. We saw…

a fucking lie. A headcanon, perhaps. Badum tss.

What Adam REALLY WAS was an abusive cruel irredeemably evil monster jerkface asshole creep bitch who NEVER cared about his own people, NEVER cared about his people’s rights, NEVER wanted anything more than glory and power and to be lionized.

The minority character, by the way.

Why did the writers decide to make this guy the hatesink? Why did they decide to make Adam suddenly not care about his fellow people’s rights?

Why did they decide to make him laughably cruel to his own people whom he seemed to genuinely care for before (like in that scene in volume 3, where he only agrees to go along w/ cinder after she starts KILLING FAUNUS, but maybe that scene was a headcanon too, all in le head)

Why did they decide to make the goals of one of their in universe minority characters to be wanting nothing but fame and power?

Why did they also write him to be a former child slave?

Volume 6 is one of my more liked volumes, with it (for me) easily being the best looking, and the horror stuff was great. Also, Maria.

But then they threw Adam in last minute. One last kick of that dead bull.

He comes back in his finest NieR: Automata cosplay and starts spouting some of the most embarrassingly bad dialog this show has had while fighting Blang (basically that one fucking hilarious “Boobs in my mouth please please please hello You’re nothing” post as dialog), and it’s in this that, after 6 volumes, we finally see his face.

Adam was branded. I’m not putting that shit lightly, Adam was fucking branded.

And the brand is used to show how evil HE is. He was hurt more by his gf leaving him than ANY scar ever would. Who cares about all the trauma he surely went through in slavery, he sure fucking doesn’t! Okay, Cameraman Mike, be sure to focus a whole bunch of shots on his brand, which is still blood red and grotesque, to really hammer the point in how much of an asshole he is.

Never mind it’s a brand of the SDC, of which one of our main character’s family owns. Who cares if this is literally the only time we’re shown the true extent of racism against Faunus?

It’s swept aside! Because the same episode we’re given one of the most honestly depressing reveals for a villain yet is the same episode that villain dies.

Dies with the brand facing the camera. His death. Entirely. On. Screen.

Thank fuck Adam was written as an irredeemable monster of a villain(/j), because they literally wrote, animated, and voiced a scene where we the viewers watch a former child slave, branded and blinded over an eye, have his death be entirely on screen. A slow death, entirely on screen.

Adam, a former slave to the SDC who, sometime during his childhood was branded and permanently blinded, died more slowly… more gruesomely… than Jacques fucking Schnee did.

Even died before him, too.

But notice one thing. I keep referring to him as having been a “child slave.” Emphasis on child.

Don’t blame me. Blame your fucking writers.

I want you to read this. Read this paragraph. Twice, if you have to. As many times as you need to to get the fact into your head that THIS IS FUCKING VILE.

This is in the writers commentary track for volume 7. They tiptoe around with their words, but I’ll translate it to the best of my ability. In it, Miles shared a particular headcanon: in which the

FUCKING VILLAIN HE WROTE TO HAVE BEEN A CHILD SLAVE TO THE SCHNEE DUST COMPANY GOT HIMSELF BRANDED FOR BEING TOO MUCH OF A LITTLE SHIT TO KEEP HIS DIRTY TRAP SHUT.

SO THEN ONE OF HIS CAPTORS HELD THIS CHILD DOWN TO THE GROUND AND JAMMED A CATTLE PROD DOWN WITH THE SDC PROPERTY LOGO ONTO HIS EYE.

THAT LITTLE BOY SURE HAD IT COMING, HUH? HE’S ALWAYS BEEN SUCH AN INSUFFERABLE LITTLE PRICK, EVEN AS A CHILD IN SLAVERY. HIS CAPTORS REALLY LET HIM HAVE IT!

LET.

HIM.

HAVE.

IT.

THEY WRITE AND HEADCANON A FICTIONAL CHILD SLAVE BEING BRANDED IN THE EYE AFTER HE STARTS THE FIGHT. HE STARTED IT.

THEY WRITE AND HEADCANON A FICTIONAL CHILD SLAVE BEING BRANDED IN THE EYE AND GROWING UP TO BECOME A HORRIBLE, DISGUSTING DEMON.

THEY WRITE AND HEADCANON A FICTIONAL CHILD SLAVE BEING BRANDED IN THE EYE AND HIS CAPTOR JUST “LET HIM HAVE IT.”

“LET HIM HAVE IT,” NOT IN REFERRAL TO A MINORITY BEING HATE CRIMED.

“LET HIM HAVE IT,” NOT IN REFERRAL TO A MINORITY SLAVE BEING PERMANENTLY SCARRED.

“LET HIM HAVE IT” IN REFERRAL TO A MINORITY CHILD SLAVE BEING BRANDED AS PROPERTY IN THE EYE BY HIS CAPTORS.

And I think this says it all. From the white and the black, blue and the red, oppressor and oppressed and angel and demon, Weiss and Adam almost mirror each other.

Just look at their scars. Theirs are on the same side.

But while Weiss’s is the smallest, prettiest scar of all,

The brand of the SDC all but covers half of Adam’s face, in all it’s grotesque, blood red and hideous glory.

I’ll let you guess the implications.

Killing off a WOC in power the very scene she’s introduced. Showing the Lakota girl the “right way to protest”. Painting the oppressors in a more positive light than ever showing the oppressed be oppressed. Showing your hatesink character had been branded in the eye the same episode he dies on screen. And this is what broke me.

They’d read in the history books of children forced into slavery slaves being branded

and they’d see the backstory for a villain.

Because we can’t write the minorities fighting against their oppressors to be justifiable!

We can’t face how a member of the majority will almost always benefit from an oppressive system!

We can’t write the pretty white rich family of Fantasy-Amazon owners as wrong for their horrible practices both past and present!

We can’t let the WOC be right about violent protest!

We can’t let the native girl be angry and fight back against her oppressors!

We can’t have a shred of sympathy for the ex slave who was branded while he was a boy!

Because they did this.

AvA6 EP1 SPOILERS

Alright peeps I'm joining in this chaos and you should all fear me This post has no plan or path this is just a ramble analysis of things I notice in the new episode so :D

Ok so like first off guys- maybe like- don't fire your glitch weapons in the middle of a crowded city?? This seems like a bad idea?? You guys are worse than the Avengers when it comes to collateral damage smh

Ok but Chosen stopping mid-chase to save that civilian by destroying the debris really goes to show how he's improved as a character, this guy went from destroying Alan's PC, to rampaging various sites with Dark, and now to this. Glad to see him as a proper hero now :D

I'm happy to see the ice powers coming back cuz after that one time he froze the Firefox I thought they just forgot about it lol

Chosen is Zeus now Also he just like creates a glacier 2 seconds later cool

Also quick shoutout to Alan's Desktop organization He has come a long way

I find it funny how much everyone focused on this clip in the trailer especially, like "Oh no does Orange get mad at Alan again?? Is this related to Vic???" and the reality of it is "lol wanna fight me guys?" "Sure sounds fun :D" Alan you have bamboozled us again

I find this moment rather interesting So after Alan pulls up the thingy and sends them all flying then crashing down, Red appears to be acting like they hurt their head and Yellow notices and crawls over to see if they're ok (Awwwijascsdhljw) but as soon as they do Red just punches em?? However then Yellow puts their hands up in a way almost to be like "whoa whoa it's just me" and then Red accepts the comfort. Idk I just find it interesting, like Red is still in fight-mode after the sparring match and doesn't quite register that it's Yellow touching them at first XD

Chosen: "COME ON DO IT, DO THE EYE THING" Orange: "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT IDK HOW TO DO THAT" Chosen: "YES YOU DO JUST DO IT, LIKE THIS:" Orange: "AAAAAAAAA" *Tries to do laser-eyes with every ounce of focus they have*

Red: "uhhh are they ok-" Green: "Maybe you should stop them?" Blue: "yeahhh maybe-" Yellow: "Hmm, yes. Interesting"

Chosen: "UGH FORGET IT YOU'RE COMING WITH ME" Sticknapping 101

Aight but like where did this guy (Btw I'll call him Striker cuz that name was going around and it's cool) get this stuff? Has their group attacked a Desktop before and managed to steal enough UI to make this guy OP? Cuz he uses a lot of really crazy stuff during this fight and I can't help but wonder what poor animator woke up just to find the entire UI on their software missing lol

I love how Chosen really just pulls the "Throw the kid in the pool to teach them how to swim" on Orange and his powers here lol Then to Chosen's surprise it does not work "Aw shoot the kid is drowning now I gotta save them smh"

YEAHHHH ART POWERS Ok but actually though I find it interesting how differently the Pencil tool works outside a Desktop, like usually Orange like speed-draws the whole entire thing but out here it's like Ah yes, line scribble = E e l I mean it actually kinda makes sense, in the 3D world it'd be really difficult to draw anything really so the Pen just changes function a bit based on the environment

Poor Green does not enjoy climbing it seems :(

This guy can forever one-up everything "Ok but have you beat up a shark with your bare hands and won?

Ok but this guy's style is just like tribal or primitive and it's honestly pretty cool I have no clue what to call them though so that's up to the rest of the fandom to decide ':D

Also someone else on a different site suggested the name "Warnman" for this guy cuz he looks like the typical hazard sign guy who's always showing the dreadful things that will happen if you don't obey the sign and I think the name fits so Warnman is honestly my favorite of these guys just cuz of how wacky they are lol

Also this guy has to be like Anime Stick or something I do not understand this dude at all but they're sick

Let it be known that Warnman is canonically 2D

Dude how much charge do those electro-bullets hold if that thing is STILL zapping Chosen This poor guy Also the way Striker fights throughout this whole scene is so cool

I find it interesting and I think Alan pointed out in the reaction video (really funny btw you should go watch that too) That Striker is totally just messing with them before that, like sure he probably has to be close to the target to use the Pause attack but I like to think he was enjoying the fight before that and is only just doing it now cuz he's bored lol

Aight so the Rocket Group is the one hunting Chosen I wanna know though- why Chosen specifically? Are they just after all Hollowheads with the powers or is it just Chosen they want? Maybe they're after all of them but Chosen is the only one with a super known presence? Also who are these guys?? They seem to be just some independent group but do they hold any sort of actual authority over Stick City? Man I have so many questions

How do you pause fire-? Does it still burn? I assume not cuz I think it woulda burned the guys bringing him by now Man that's wacky but cool Also another question here is like, is that white box a containment unit or some sort of display case? I'm thinking more along the lines of containment but like he's already paused and they left the door open I think??

Aight now we're getting to the theory-fuel Why are they studying all this UI? Where'd they get this UI? Why do all these sticks look exactly the same??? Like I get that it's just supposed to represent a large group of workers and stuff but they are all exactly the same shade-

A h a A h a a a . . . VICTIM???? VIC MY GUY WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE HOW ARE YOU ALIVE?? LIKE I GET YOU'RE PROBABLY MAD AT ALAN LIKE KILLING YOU AND ALL BUT WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH CHOSEN AND EVERYONE?? I have many questions Also I am wondering if all the UI decor in his office is just art or what, are they trophies maybe? They probably had to get the UI for Striker's setup somewhere, did they raid Desktops before? Are those trophies from animators he's beaten? 1- When did you start playing Choices? What's the first book you played?

I started playing back in 2018. I kept seeing this thing called “playchoices” trending as number 1 on Tumblr (lol remember those days?). This would happen, without fail, almost every week! When I clicked on it, the posts were all about the finale of a royal story (The Royal Romance!). People made the most hilarious posts, complete with memes. I had no idea what it was, but I gathered it was an app. I downloaded it, and the rest is history.

The first book I played was Desire and Decorum. It was absolute torture because it wasn’t completed yet. So I binged the available chapters. Yes, I spent real money on keys and diamonds, telling myself at least I wasn't spending that money on drugs. It was so much fun waiting for a new chapter every week, even if I’m an impatient mess.

2- When and why did you join Choices fandom?

I joined the fandom almost immediately after downloading the app.

As I sat in my living room, tapping my foot and waiting for the new D&D chapter to drop, I went back into the playchoices tag for content. It felt good to find other people who loved the story as much as I did. There were other users out there who were also waiting impatiently for the new chapter, writing fics and discussing theories in the meantime. There were also some of the funniest memes I have ever seen in my life. At first, I would quietly read and reblog. Then, I slowly started posting my own thoughts and theories (which were not very good lol but hey, this is tumblr after all).

3- How did you pick your url name?

My life is one hyperfixation after another… The one before Choices was Harry Potter. More specifically, the Marauders era. I used to write for the pairing called “Jily”, composed of Harry Potter’s (dead) parents. Kelsey (@takeharryandgo) is a witness of just how much I love James Potter, Harry’s (dead) dad. In fact, our shared love for the pairing and character is one of the things that brought us together.

In short, this URL is a reference to James Potter the first, Harry’s (dead) dad. Not James Sirius Potter the second, Harry Potter’s (living?) son.

I saved it as a sideblog, meant only for writing resources for me to use at a later time. One day, I decided I didn’t want the followers on my main page to see all the Choices spam I was posting, so I resurrected the JP blog.

5- How long have you been writing fanfiction?

I’ve been writing fanfiction since I was a literal child. I used to write in a notebook and my friends would read during recess. It was awful but they were into it. One day, I used up the whole notebook and my friend was desperate for the next part of the story. I told her I needed to wait until my mom took me to the store (literal child) to get a new one. My friend got me a new one by the end of the day lol.

TL;DR that puts me at about 20+ years of writing.

6- What is your favorite Choices book to write about?

Without a doubt, Open Heart!

7- Share the first fanfic you wrote with us. Do you still like it or would you change anything about it?

Oh god, the first fanfic I wrote was Lily Evans and James Potter from the Harry Potter universe. I forgot the exact title, but it was named after an Avril Lavigne lyric. Again, I was a child, don’t judge me lol. It’s handwritten in a notebook I still have somewhere, but I will never open it again lest I die of cringe.

My first Choices fic, on the other hand, was a Desire and Decorum fic called “A Wedding Gift” that only like 5 people read at the time.

8- What is your favorite fic that you’ve written?

Oof. This answer changes depending on the day you ask me. I always overthink it and end up saying picking a favorite fic is like picking a favorite child. To avoid being here all day, however, I’m going to say: Fake Husband, She Walks in Beauty, and Lovely.

9- Do you have a fic that you didn’t expect to be well received, but it was? What about one you expected to be but could use a little more love?

Definitely, the fic I didn’t expect to do well at all if my first Open Heart fic: Lovely.

I was so naive back then, knowing nothing about the Open Heart writing fandom. I had no idea what format or tags to use when posting. I was afraid there would be no readers out there who wanted to read a silly little story about my MC posting a thirst trap. All I knew was that the latest chapter of Open Heart Year 2 inspired an idea that wouldn’t leave me alone until I wrote it.

I posted it and I was so incredibly lucky to receive so much support. Words cannot explain how special that was. To this day, I cannot verbalize how grateful I am for that.

There isn’t really a fic I can think of that could use more love. It always amazes me that anyone gives my fics their time. So any feedback my fics get will always be valued and treasured by me.

10- If you could write only angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why?

Oh no.

If forced to choose, I’d say fluff.

11- Do you ever recognize yourself in any of your MCs or in your writing?

Absolutely! While I try to make every MC different, I often pull from experience when I write. My Open Heart MC and I have a lot of things in common (heritage, hometown, astrological sign, etc.) But I also wanted her to be her own character with life choices that are different from mine. Since I'm very boring, it definitely makes for better fiction that way.

12- What element of writing do you struggle with most?

It depends on the day. Some days I struggle the most with dialogue. Others, my biggest struggle is descriptions. It's rare when I feel confident in both when I write.

13- Do you have any neglected work you really want to finish?

*laughs nervously in unfinished series*

There are a few series I have yet to finish. Once again, I apologize for leaving them untouched for so long! I plan to get my shit together soon!

14- If someone you know in real life (who isn’t involved in fandoms) asked to read your work, would you let them? If yes, what would you recommend they read first?

No!

I don't think I could look anyone in the eye if they read some of the stuff I've written, especially for Choices.

15 - Are there any writers (published authors and/or fanfic writers) who influenced your writing?

I strongly believe that one of the best ways to learn as a writer is reading. As such, I believe I've learned from most pieces I've read, particularly published rom com novels. In the fanfiction world, I admire my lovely friend @takeharryandgo. I've had the absolute joy of following her writing for over a decade. And with every work, I am still amazed by her masterful way with words! And her characterization is always spot-on. I simply love to read her spellbinding work and learn from the master!

Other writers/creators I admire are:

@heauxplesslydevoted- one of the first OH writers I've ever read! Her smut is top-tier!

@jerzwriter - her stories, dialogue, and characterization are a delight to read. Her angst is painful. Her smut is sizzling hot!

@liaromancewriter - a true master at romance! Her writing style is magical and synonymous with the best of rom-coms!

@genevievemd - I bow down because the amount of love and care she puts into every piece truly makes her work special!

@lucy-268 - I have always respected the amount of research she puts into every piece. She pours so much care into it so that the narrative flows seamlessly!

@a-crepusculo - her writing is so vivid and immersive. Reading her work is like listening to the most beautiful of symphonies!

@writer-ish - she is such a master at the craft! Her characterization is so vivid that the reader will fall in love no matter the format. Her text edits are legendary!

@bex-la-get - such a talented and dedicated writer! She also pours hours of research into her work, ensuring every detail makes sense!

@potionsprefect - she's such a creative and talented writer. She develops writing ideas like no one else I've ever seen!

16- Which one of your stories would you most like to see as a movie/series?

I would love to see She Walks in Beauty along with its series (1800s AU) in live action. Imagine Ana de Armas and David Gandy in period costumes? That alone would be worth it!

I've crafted and outlined original stories before but I've never actually written them. One of my biggest goals for the new year is to finally start. Wish me luck!

18 - What other hobbies do you have?

I love reading, hiking, and dancing!

Yes, I picked the most “impressive” of my hobbies to seem cool. On most days, you'll catch me cuddling with my dog or bf watching YouTube/TikTok/Hell's Kitchen reruns lol.

I used the orange 🧡 and purple 💜 hearts a lot because they're my favorite colors!

image 1. ) i love nami so much i think she deserves the world.. i think she has a lot of potential to be a really great hero of light. i think she feels a lot of guilt from the events of re:com and that she would hold that as a sort of drive for her initial desire to wield a keyblade, and that she would have to work through that guilt and come into her own strengths.

this is why i named her first keyblade, Sanctuary's Penance and used elements from castle oblivion/events of com. sanctuary pulled from the kh2 op, and penance as she feels she's using the keyblade to make up for her past mistakes. a reminder of the things she's done, but that she's trying to make up for it.

the second keyblade i made for her is based off the key altered memory from re:com of the meteor shower. i think thats an important falsity for her! i think she obviously knows that the memory is fabricated, but i think she can't help but feel attached to it. i, as a namixi enthusiast, have a scene in mind where xion and naminé bond over the memories that aren't actually theirs/memories that aren't real and after that scene nami would get this keyblade<3. maybe ill do a comic of it one day it lives in my head day and night..

i also just really like butterflies and thought it would be fun to incorporate them into a design for nami. final thought i think she should train underneath aqua.

image 3.) i have a thing i like to call namiswap in which i take naminé and switch her with another character i like. it's something of a role & color swap because erm.. i like messing around with putting characters in different places and seeing how they would act in those circumstances. and i like drawing characters with different palettes. you don't have to think too hard about the consequences of this or how they came to be it's just for funzies.

vani-> i think vanitas would loooove gaslight gatekeeping sora in com. i think he would have soso much fun with it and he and larxene would get along great pushing sora around both physically and emotionally. i think he would also really really make marluxia mad. in this swap i think he would replace riku in soras heart instead of nami replacing kairi, and there would be a different sort of promise about leaving the island together.

nami-> naminé has an incredibly gentle heart.. though she's capable of doing horrible things under the right pressure, i think making the χ-blade with ven is something she would really dread. still, she wouldn't be able to refuse xehanort, so she would have no choice.

Incomplete List of Fucked Up and Evil Things I've Done in Souls Games

The PS5 Demon's Souls remake brought in a lot of people who had no idea how to play souls games. So after 20 successful invasions in a row I made a character with the rule that I could only kill people after parrying them. This didn't slow down the slaughter at all, and I think just made fighting against me even more demoralizing.

In Elden Ring, I made this character named "Bleeding is Fair" and went on a two hour journey to get two thrusting swords and a bleed infusion for both. I didn't level up once during that entire affair, so I spent the next few hours invading people who had just made new characters and were exploring the first areas. Unspeakable amounts of carnage. Because of how the dual wield thrusting sword moveset works, anyone who hid behind a shield got absolutely shredded. Utterly unfair. I only stopped when I invaded these two people with the names "Gamer BF" and "Gamer GF," I killed Gamer BF and then Gamer GF used the dejection emote and stopped fighting. :C

In Dark Souls 3, there's this thing you can do to be a purple invader. You aren't an enemy or an ally, but a secret third thing. Anyway, I invaded as a purple guy in an early game area and noticed that the host was really struggling with this group of enemies. So I helped him kill one. Then I aggroed like 5 more and jumped off a cliff to leave him to fend for himself.

I made a bloodtinge build in Bloodborne.

Demon's Souls has this boss that's actually a real human person (Old Monk). Obviously, I loved being the Old Monk. The issue is, to fight this boss, players have to go up a huge set of stairs filled with some really frustrating and bullshit enemies. Imagine, if you will, that you're a player. You summon a friend. You both use bows to slowly kill the enemies leading up to the Old Monk fight. This takes five minutes. You both try to attack through the door to see if the person is trying to use some scummy magic to kill you. He doesn't! This is good! You both enter the door, and within about ten seconds I've parried and one-shot you both. Better luck next time! This exact set of events happened with SHOCKING regularity. We're talking upwards of 20 times across several months.

In Elden Ring I used the Giant Crusher to flatten people going up an elevator several times. There is basically no way they would have known I was there unless they had some level of intuition or self-preservation (no one co-oping souls games has these qualities), so it just kept working.

The PS5 Demon's Souls remake has this ring that lets you walk through swamp water like it's nothing instead of a thick goo that slows you down by like 50,000%. So I would get that ring really early on and then invade people in the swamp area, trapping them on the little islands because they couldn't move faster than me. I'd let them damage me a bit so they'd get greedy, run into the swamp, and then I'd move faster and backstab them. This worked literally every time.

In one of the last areas of Elden Ring, there's this boss that requires you to juggle aggro in a really irritating way, so a lot of people summon for it. I invaded there a lot, and used the numerous and powerful enemies there as friends to put people in awful situations that made it to where they HAD to take damage. Did a successful 1v3s in this area just by being patient. One of them took like 15 minutes and 90% of it was me just wasting the everyone's time until they got greedy and died. Which was incredibly lame of me.

In Elden ring, there's this mini-dungeon that's really fun to invade in (Wyndham Catacombs for those who are curious). It's not really fun to invade in because you're guaranteed to win (I think only like 30-40% of my invasions there were successful). It's fun to invade in because when you do succeed, it's utterly humiliating for the host. We're talking ladders that take 10 seconds to climb up so you can either prep a one shot or just stall everyone until they're willing to tank a hit. We're talking little corners that allow you to surprise people with the nasty dragon vape spell. We're talking a GIANT room with a moving floor that will squish you if you stay in it for too long, so you can lure people in there and push them out of the safe spots so they get flattened. I can guarantee I've ruined some people's days with this one.

Finally, in Demon's souls remake, I made a character that ONLY leveled magic. Because of how powerful magic is in Demon's souls, I was able to make it to new game plus easily. Here's a shitty video I made like 2 years ago showing how it went. I don't think I can describe it accurately with words. This was not cool of me to do.

Idia - Livestream

Idia was the very first to admit he was a total social hermit. From his noise canceling headphones to his anxious sputtering, Idia knew the reality of his status. He didn’t go around trying to deny it either. He was all doom and gloom—nerdy with a hearty dose of spazz. If he could see himself in the wild, he’d probably suffer a full-body cringe.

Gloomurai, on the other hand, was an absolute legend.

Which was why it was easy for Idia to put a bit more energy behind his voice when he was sure that red circle on the screen was glowing and his tablet pinged with a message Gloomurai had gone live on Spasm. “What’s up, all my Gloomys? Y’all hyped for today’s stream?”

The number in the corner of his screen gradually rose, already breaking the thousands thanks to the post he’d made on his official Gloomurai Magicam account. The chat picked up speed quickly until the only thing he could make out was the custom blue flame emojis Ortho had designed. His adrenaline started kicking in just like it always did at the start of a livestream. The feeling was still fairly new since he had only started streaming at the beginning of the school year. One of his few online buddies had suggested it after he’d invited Gloomurai to his 3 AM livestream. Apparently, the internet was as weird as Idia knew and loved it to be, and people loved a sarcastic, gloomy personality.

It still boggled his mind, but hey, it was extra cash for his gaming pleasure.

Idia checked his setup on his spare monitor, making sure the window for the game he had planned to play was streaming at the right ratios. He’d learned his first few streams that his audience wouldn’t hesitate to point out any flaw. Best to get it done now instead of halfway through a match. “Everything looking good...is the sound good?”

After a few seconds of delay, a wall of thumbs-ups buried everything else in his chat. Idia leaned back in his chair to glance at Ortho. The thumbs-up Ortho gave him was the only one he trusted. “Sweet. So we’re changing it up a bit today. You guys know Red isn’t big on the shooting co-ops, but I’ve been on a Towernoon streak lately. So as promised at the end of my last stream, I'm gonna be hitting up trios.”

His eyes skimmed over the chat. In the midst of the hype, one username popped up for being benched for ten seconds. He never saw the comment that had benched the guy, but he could imagine they’d said something negative about Muscle Red. Those—and the real toxic mess—were the only comments Ortho immediately dealt with as his mod.

“First up.” Idia paused to flip through his character customization. He grinned at the comments speeding through the chat about his suspense making. “I’d like you guys to welcome back one of your favorites.”

The chat freaked out when Ortho’s preferred skin—one of the anthropomorphic monsters—popped up behind Idia in the game lobby. Ortho giggled into his mic at the wall of hearts filling the chat. “Hi, everyone! It’s good to be back!”

The chat was nothing but hearts and Little Gloomy!!!! Even new viewers would know Ortho’s gamer tag because of the reputation he had built as Idia’s mod. When he wasn’t deleting the haters, he was chitchatting with the regulars. When Idia had to throw up an animated screensaver for some downtime, he’d give the mic over to Ortho to shoot the breeze. For all the incessant DMs and comments he received for a face reveal, Ortho was getting just as much—if not more—demands for the same.

“Okay,” Idia said, absently checking his settings again, “now we just gotta wait for the other to get online.”

Idia’s eyes flicked to the Hermes app opened in a different window. Some viewers were already getting impatient for him to start. He typed out a quick message and hoped she’d be near enough to her computer to hear the ping. His subscribers liked his doom and gloom, but they could only be distracted for so long.

The green dot lit up next to Yuu’s name. Idia breathed a sigh of relief. He had only briefly mentioned her joining the livestream the last time they’d played together, which had already been two days ago. She was already so busy running around the campus with everyone else. It wasn’t very farfetched for him to imagine she would find someone else to hang out with.

“Am I late?” Yuu’s voice sounded slightly muffled. The chat started whizzing by almost too quick for Idia to read it. “I know you said six, but I completely lost track of time.”

Ortho cheerfully greeted the prefect by her gamer tag. Idia responded, “You’re fine. It’s cool that you made it either way.”

That was Gloomurai’s smooth response. Idia’s internal response was actually, Thank the King of the Underworld she made it, and she chose gaming with me over a full body massage in Pomefiore! It would have been awkward having to fill in a third person at random.

Yuu’s player model appeared in the lobby shortly after Idia sent the party invite to her. Despite him gifting her the current and previous season passes, she still stuck with the default skin, the only exception being the colorful butterfly wings he had bought her after she downloaded the game. Nothing else “spoke” to her was her excuse when he made fun of her.

Idia hesitantly glanced at the chat again. It had fallen back to a moderate enough speed for him to quickly skim, but so far, the only complaints were a couple of obnoxious viewers asking if LadyKnight was really a girl. Idia rolled his eyes. It wasn’t like Yuu was the first girl to play Towernoon. The top streamer on Spasm was a chick who practically played it 24/7.

Idia made a slashing motion with one hand while his other hand clicked the key to ready up for the match. “Okay, okay. Everybody chill. LadyKnight is practically noob status right now, so don’t be so hard on her. Me and Little Gloomy will pick up all the slack.”

Ortho giggled, which spawned nothing but dazed hearts in the chat. “I’ll keep everyone safe!”

“Do they still have the bows in the game?” Yuu asked. Idia wasn’t sure if she had heard him talking to the audience or simply ignored his insult. She might have become so used to being referred to as a noob that it didn’t register anymore. “I liked setting the builds on fire with the fire bow. I couldn’t find one the last time we played though.”

“They’re still in-game,” Ortho helpfully answered. His player model started dancing to copyrighted music, which made Idia automatically mute the game audio. “They’re just a little rarer since the new weekly quests don’t require them.”

“So that’s why I leveled up so quickly last week.”

“How many things did you set on fire?”

“I burned down every location Gloom and I visited.”

A sudden snicker almost made Idia choke on the energy drink he sipped. He wiped his chin and totally ignored the chat for the first time since the stream started. “She’d rig up any car we came across so she could mow down the buildings too!”

“It’s the fastest way to get ammo.”

“I’ll let you have the fire bow if I find one!” Ortho promised. The text above his avatar switched from the red Not Ready to green Ready. “Ready up!”

Yuu’s status flipped over at the same time. While they waited for the server to drop them into a match, Idia quickly skimmed over the chat. He frowned at some of the messages he had received from the viewers who donated through the widget he designed.

They weren’t necessarily...bad. Idia could tell the instant everyone had logged on based on the donations. A few had welcomed him with a single thaumark donation, probably hoping he’d acknowledge their usernames despite being transparent that he only read off the messages for the big donations. Ortho’s arrival brought a few more fangirls/boys, and Idia would leave those for Ortho to respond to later. Yuu’s arrival had sparked the biggest donation pool of single thaumarks Idia had ever seen.

Is she really a girl?

Does she stream too?

Is she your sister?

Those seemed to be the most repeated questions. Idia scrolled through the long list of repetitive donations until he landed on one for five thaumarks. His audible choke made Ortho reach for his shoulder IRL. “Are you okay?

Idia sputtered slightly before recovering enough to sputter, “Where are we dropping?”

“Ice mountain.”

The lack of inflection in Yuu’s voice bordered no arguments. Ortho happily agreed. Idia rolled his eyes towards the ceiling. He knew which location she referred to, but he couldn’t temper his own sarcasm. “There’s three mountains on the map.”

“That’s why I said ice,” Yuu persisted. The shock that had sent his heart hammering in his chest moments ago gradually slowed with a snicker. “There’s broke mountain, city mountain, and ice mountain.”

“Cluttered Cliffs, Metro Mountain, and Pike’s Peak,” Idia listed.

“That’s what I said. Broke mountain, city mountain, and ice mountain. The one with ice is where I want to land.”

Idia snickered into his hand. Since they had started playing, she had never once referred to the locations in the game by their actual names. After he had to explain why some of the names changed after the holiday event and how they would likely change again at the beginning of the next season pass, she had responded, “So what’s the point of me actually learning these names?”

Her lack of care in the gimicky names was like an inside joke at this point. Whenever Idia would name a location, she would reiterate with her own classification. The fact that she knew how to describe each place was enough to let Idia know she was fully aware of the map’s layout, so it had never bothered him.

He glanced at the chat while they waited to drop into the match. He frowned at two usernames that had been benched for five minutes. “You know, the fire bows don’t always spawn in that area.”

“But I’ve found one in the matches we played before.”

His monitor flashed, and they were floating across the map in a hot air balloon. Idia waited until the last second before nose diving down into the small research station on the mountain. He could tell Yuu dropped with him when her username appeared on the screen. Ortho’s was last. “We’re gonna win this! Just let me know when you need help.”

Cue the happy swoons in the chat. Everybody loved Hero Boy Ortho. Almost as much as they loved Giggle Slayer Ortho. Nothing entertained them more than a squeaker running around headshotting other players while giggling and offering strategical advice.

Idia sighed. “Hear that, Lady?”

“I prefer Knight if we’re shortening it.”

Idia snickered at Yuu’s quick response. He landed on the roof and started pilfering the few chests in the area. She came floating down beside him as he sorted his inventory to his preferred lineup. Ortho’s username landed a little farther from them, but Idia wasn’t worried about that. He spotted another trio landing near him and Yuu. “I could call you 800815 since that’s actually part of your name too.”

“You might as well call it what it is,” she fired back. He peeked over the edge and focused his crosshairs on her shuffling two guns in and out of her inventory. One of the players on the other team was slowly heading in their direction. “We’re all mature enough to handle it.”

Idia snorted. Ortho’s giggles took on a slightly different pitch. Maybe they weren’t as mature as she tried to claim. He couldn’t picture Yuu saying the same thing IRL, which was probably why he found it so funny. The anonymity of online gaming brought out the pervert in them all.

Another username flashed by in the stream chat, the status saying they had been benched for ten minutes. Idia frowned and made a mental note to ask Ortho later what the message had said. The lengthy times were getting a little outrageous. “Have you found a bow yet?”

Yuu’s aggrieved huff was answer enough. “No. I’m pretty sure you cursed me. I’m only finding rapid fire guns.”

“At least we don’t have to worry about you aiming to hit anything then,” Idia countered.

Ortho’s giggling was nearly non-stop now as his name kept popping up in the in-game log. The Squeaker Destroyer was leaving a trail of death in his wake, and his viewers were loving it even if they weren’t watching Ortho’s perspective. Yuu made a small noise. “Good job, Or—Little Gloomy!”

“Thank you!”

The entire time they had been chatting, Idia had his eye on the player approaching Yuu. He toggled to a rifle with a scope. He poised the crosshairs on the player’s head but didn’t pull the trigger. “Did you check the chest behind you?”

“What chest?” Yuu’s character jerkily spun around. Her yip of surprise made Idia snicker. Her panicked spray sent him cackling. “How long has he been there!”

When she cursed at a forced reload, Idia took his sweet time landing a direct headshot that sent the opposing player crawling for shelter. He swung his scope towards the building he had seen the player’s team vanish into. Another player stood frozen in front of a window. Idia took pity on him and downed him with another headshot. Turns out the guy wasn’t as AFK as he appeared when he started crawling for shelter too. Whoops.

“I found my bow!”

Idia immediately made a mad dash off the roof. He had just landed on the ground when parts of the building caught on fire. He huffed and circled around to where he had last seen Yuu. “I was on top of that roof, thank you very much.”

“Whoops.” There was zero remorse in Yuu’s voice. “My hand slipped.”

Idia rolled his eyes at his screen. He shuffled through his inventory and pulled out a green keg he found while looting ammo boxes. He tossed the keg at her and stepped into the bio-hazard green spray to build their shields. “I should have just let that scrub pick you off.”

“Spare me your wrath, almighty Gloomurai.”

Idia’s snicker was cut short by Ortho’s pause on his killing spree. “Hey, do you mind if I answer a question that keeps being repeated in the chat and donations, big brother?”

“Huh?” Idia asked distractedly. He zoomed in and out with his scope, searching for the last player of the opposing trio. “Sure. Go ahead.”

“Okay!” Ortho’s hum was like background noise. “No worries, chat! Little Gloomy can keep up with you guys and slay some baddies all at the same time. Since you guys seem really curious about it, I’ll just come out and say it. My big brother and LadyKnight aren’t dating. At least not at the moment.”

Idia’s arm jerked. It caught on the energy drink he had been drinking earlier, spilling all across his desk. Idia sputtered and lurched forward to dab the spill with a nearby box of tissues. He only managed to knock over the plate of pizza he planned on eating between matches, sending pepperoni and cheese across his keyboard.

Ortho was quick to react. “Oh, no! We’ve got a pizza emergency!”

“What happened?” Idia vaguely heard Yuu’s voice coming from his headphones, which he had instinctively knocked off his ears and now dangled around his neck. “Is everything all right?”

“Minor technical difficulties,” Idia answered. He wanted to strangle himself when his voice cracked. “Just keep us alive.”

Yuu hummed. While Idia and Ortho quickly cleaned his keyboard, Idia watched her circle him on the screen in jerky motions. She paused and pulled out her bow again. “I think I see the other guy over there.”

Idia dabbed at his desk faster. Ortho picked strings of cheese from between the keys of his keyboard. “Just let them—.”

“I’m gonna set him on fire.”

Idia only saw Yuu fire a flaming arrow because of the way his character was angled. She fired two more before clicking her tongue. “I ran out of arrows.”

Idia threw away the empty can of energy drink and fixed his headphones over his ears again. “He’s probably had enough time to pick up his other teammates.”

“I can take him.”

The words had barely made it through his headphones when his character dropped to the ground from a single headshot. Yuu hummed when he cursed. “That’s unfortun—.”

Yuu yelped before she was crawling on the ground with him. “I made a miscalculation.” LadyKnight’s name appeared in the game’s log for claiming a kill. “I take that back. I regret nothing.”

“Got it!” Idia’s keyboard clacked back onto the desk. Ortho skipped back over to his area, picking up his tablet. “I’ll hurry over to pick you two up.”

Idia grunted. He spun his mouse until he faced Yuu. “What even was your plan? Take random shots and pray they’re bigger noobs than you?”

“My plan was to burn my enemies and claim at least one kill this session.” Yuu hobbled away from him towards the burnt building. “And I have been successful. I think that means I've leveled up.”

Idia rolled his eyes. “That’s like saying a baby leveled up because he figured out how to roll over.”

“Wah.”

The poor imitation of a baby cry flipped his mood with a genuine snort of laughter. Giving up on Ortho picking him up before he fully died—Ortho had landed farther away than he thought—Idia turned his attention to his chat. There was some good-natured back and forth between most of his usual viewers. A wall of spam dominated the chat before it disappeared, the user being benched for thirty minutes. Idia’s eyes widened at the amount of time. That was extreme even for him.

An angry huff from Ortho made him glance at his younger brother. He glared at the screen of his tablet, and the fringes of his fiery hair had turned a light red. “If I see anyone say anything negative about LadyKnight again, I’m gonna permaban them from the chat. This is casual games night, and we’re all here to have fun.”

Idia paid closer attention to his chat. Most of them seemed to agree with Ortho, some of them even thanking him for banning the spammer. There were a few snide comments in the mix, most of them calling LadyKnight a fake gamer. Idia snorted. “Fake gamer? Chill out already. I literally already told all of you she was a noob. She just started playing over the winter break. And no one even said she was a gamer. She just agreed to play because Red didn’t want to.”

“I have fun playing too,” Yuu added. She didn’t sound upset or anything, but her voice still startled Idia a bit. Her not being in the room had made him think she hadn’t heard him for some reason. “I don’t know what I'm doing half the time, but it’s still fun.”

“We like playing with you too!” Ortho agreed. He glowered down at his screen like he was watching the chat for any naysayers. Which he probably was, in all honesty. “So be nice to her, so she comes back to play again.”

It was hard for his viewers to argue with Ortho, considering they were nearing cult level status when it came to their love for him. Idia watched the chat for a moment longer, ignoring the prompt on his screen to return to the lobby. His face felt a little warm now, but he wasn’t about to roll over for his chat. If he had physically been in a crowd with all of them, then he no doubt would have. But this was the internet—Gloomurai was cool, and slick, and in control.

“By the way, I’m in another match, and I don’t see either one of you.”

Ortho made a small noise. “You went into another match? I haven’t even died yet!”

“The game asked if I wanted to go into another match, so I said yes.” The faint crinkle of a chip bag came through Yuu’s mic. It was obvious she still had a mouthful of chips when she next spoke. “Gloom always gets on to me for going back to the lobby for no reason.”

Idia sighed and backed out of the match into the lobby. “The one time you actually listen to me...”

“Nine times out of ten, I block you out,” Yuu admitted. The chip bag crinkled again. “You just get really haughty when I go back to the lobby, and I don’t want to listen to your cranky mumbles.”

Idia snickered and ignored Ortho telling the chat—again—that he and Yuu weren’t dating.

FanExpo Dallas Write Up

So I went to FanExpo in Dallas yesterday 6-10-23, and it was one of the best days of my life! 🥺 I really went because I wanted to meet Jon Bernthal, and he happened to be within a car drive of me. But Gabriel Luna reminded me why I fell in love with him in the first place when he played Robbie Reyes in Agents of SHIELD, and I’m so glad I followed my gut and met him too. Oof. My heart 😩💜

Random cute guy in line with me named Jacob and I bonded over the Punisher while we were waiting in line to meet Jon. I feel like we were getting along fabulously. As we got to the table to pay for our stuff, I pulled out my photo op with Charlie and Jon to put my sticky note with my name on it. Jacob saw it and leaned into to me, telling me “I think that’s a really good photo. Not to pry or anything, but it’s really cool.” I then explained to him why I did it and he immediately turned back around to me and said, “well your parents are idiots if they can’t be proud of every part of you. And that was a brave thing to do.” 😩 you guys he was so sweet.

Jon Bernthal

I’m 100% positive Jon Bernthal is the first actor I’ve met to make my brain stop working almost completely. I was absolutely on the verge of crying to the point of me grimacing in the photo, but I walked up to him with my bi pride flag and explained to him that my parents will never be proud of this part of my life. I want to make a statement with people who are proud of me. He made sure to double check with me that it was right side up because he wanted to do it right, however we all see how well that went over because my own pride flag was upside down 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ We then turn to the camera and take it, and as he’s handing me my flag back he looks me very earnestly in the eyes and said, “well I am proud of you, sweetheart.” I swear I was fine until that very moment. He’s an intimidating man, and it was hard for me to look him in the eyes for very long. He absolutely murdered me.

I had a duo photo op with him and Charlie as well, and because I looked so not happy in the first one, and my flag was upside down, I decided to redo it with them. I walked up to Charlie and even though this was the first time I was seeing him I said, “I almost cried in my last photo so I want to fix it.” He gladly took the the corner of the flag from me, and I stood between them with Jon on my other side holding it again. Jon looked at me and smiled and said “thank you,” and Charlie gave me a very genuine smile and said, “thanks for being here,” as he handed me my flag back. It turned out so well and I’m so glad I redid it. 🥺 Charlie looks like such a goober and I love it 😂

I’m also so happy the handlers and Jon decided to let us get in line for his autos after his afternoon of photo ops at 6. They had ticketed people who were cut off when he had to leave for his panel that they had to honor first, and they originally were only going to do those and no more because everything shut down at 7. But there weren’t really that many people waiting to be in line behind them so they decided to let us in. We had a short convo and I thanked him for everything, and then he signed my photo op with him and Charlie. I walked away and that was that. I couldn’t have asked for a better interaction with him. Frank has come to mean so much to me, and I’m so happy the man portraying him is just as great. 💜

Gabriel Luna

He was so chill at his table, he was out in the line talking to the people waiting, and he took someone's FaceTime call. I had a chance to talk to him about how Nic Cage may have introduced the character of Ghost Rider to me as a kid, but his portrayal of Robbie Reyes cemented my love of Ghost Rider, and we ended up having a really good conversation about him. 🥺 then I mentioned that him in the Last of Us brought him back to me started him on a whole new discussion about that show and how hard we both think it is to like the second part of the video game 😆 we took some selfies, and during it he told me I had really great hair, but then corrected himself and said, “Oh wait. We both have really great hair.” I hugged him and said I had to go get in line for his photo op but I’d see him over there. He said "okay, and seriously your hair is great!" as I walked away.

His face lit up when he saw I was next in the line for a photo op, and when I got up to him he grabbed my left hand like we were dancing to pull my arm out so he could look at the tattoo that was there (it says ‘you are not alone, and is signed my another actor I met in 2018) 🥰 he said that’s really good advice to yourself, and then we faced the camera. I accidentally blinked when we did our first photo, so I got pulled out of the exiting line to go back and redo it. I’m honestly okay with that because as great as it was holding his hand i think it would have looked odd lol I walked back into the booth he was in and his back was to me, talking to the other people in the room. Once he realized I’d walked in he turned to me and smugly said “Oh! So you’re my blinker 😏” he was happy it was me! I immediately replied, “yeah. I swear I didn’t do it on purpose though,” and the whole room laughed 😆 so he pulled me in for another pic, and after he was done he gave me a really big hug, took my hands and looked very earnestly into my eyes when he told me “but for real, your hair is fantastic and you need to know that.” I said “you too, thank you again for everything.” We said goodbyes and I left. 🥰

I can’t say enough good things about Gabriel. Holy shit. He’s so kind and generous with his time, and cares about all of us so much!

Talking with Thomas - Evillustrator

A privilge that cast members of Miraculous Ladybug got was that they got to have discussions with their creator, Thomas Astruc. They could give compliments on the writing, or give critiques to the script. The kid that was speaking to Thomas today was Nathaniel. “Evillustrator” was his first big episode, a huge opportunity for someone who had barely any lines and didn’t really stand out from the other boys, aside his red hair. He was shocked and pleased when he heard he’d be turned into an akuma, but then he got a look at the script, which is what sent him to talk with Thomas. The meeting started well enough, with Thomas welcoming him with a warm smile.

“Ah, Nicholas! Have a seat.” he said.

“Actually, I-It’s Nathaniel, sir.” Nathaniel reminded. Thomas just shrugged it off. “Well, first off, I just wanted to say thank you for giving me an akumatized episode. Really honored.” Astruc just nodded in appreciation.

“Well of course, Nemanja!”

“Nathaniel.”

“Whatever. We’re on our way to giving every member of Marinette’s class a chance to shine, and you just happened to be next on the list.” Thomas replied. At this point, Nathaniel rocked back in forth in his chair, uneager to reveal his complaints.

“Well, that’s the thing, Mr. Astruc. I looked at the script and-” he was cut off.

“It’s great, right! Some of our best work if I do say so myself. The design and powers are so unique, so fitting of an artist such as yourself.” Thomas gushed.

“Y-yes, I do like the powers, even if they are a little OP.” Nathaniel muttered. “No, my problem is with the motivation.”

“Motivation? What, you mean the reason you get akumatized? You know nobody cares about that junk, right? All that matters is we get to see them become a cool monster.” Thomas said, clearly not giving a rats ass about how important motivation truly was. Nathaniel took a deep breath and just let it all out.

“I come off like a creep in this episode.”

Thomas raised his eyebrows, looking at Nathaniel as if he had grown two heads.

“What are you on about?” he asked.

“Well, sir. In the beginning, I’m fantasizing and writing a comic where a self-insert superhero saves Marinette, and she falls in love with him.” Nathaniel stated. Thomas just blinked in response.

“It’s real-person fanfiction! I didn’t ask for Marinette’s consent, I objectify her in the comic, just make her the damsel-in-distress to be saved by my OC. My character feels that it doesn’t matter if his love interest consents to being drawn in his fantasies. That’s really messed up.” Nathaniel argued.

“He’s just daydreaming, that’s all. It’s not like he’d act upon it.” Thomas defended, earning a look of bewilderment from Nathaniel.

“But it doesn’t matter. This is a show for kids, right? We shouldn’t be teaching them that it’s ok to do stuff like this. If we’re writing my character to have a crush on Marinette, it should be sympathetic. We should root for this guy, not feel like we’re watching a “nice guy” coping with being alone by having shower arguments and writing Mary Sue fics on AO3!”

“To be honest, I have no idea what any of those words mean.” Thomas admitted.

“Look, I like that Evillustrator is cordial to Marinette and all, but remember, she’s only doing it so he won’t destroy the city. Can’t we at least have Nathaniel apologize to Marinette for putting her through such a thing? Not just the akuma stuff, but all the creepy shit he was doing with his characters.” Nathaniel pleaded.

“Come on, Nardwuar”

“NATHANIEL!”

“Gesundheit. You know we don’t do apologies for most characters, unless it’s Marinette.”

“You know what. Fine. I’ll do the episode, but I’ll make sure that everyone else in the cast knows how much I hated it.”

“We really don’t care. Do what you want.”

Nathaniel stormed out, but came back for a second.

“Two more things. One, I don’t like Marinette in that way, I have a boyfriend named Marc, who you still haven’t given any screentime to. Second, we all know you named Sabine after a girlfriend, and that you named Marinette’s dad after yourself. Marinette exists to be your virtual child, and she finds that apalling. You’re a fucking creep, sir.”

“Whatever, see you on set, Nathaniel.”

“AHA! So you do remember my name!”

And there you have it. I plan on doing this sort of thing with other characters as well. I really can’t stand what the show’s become, and I’m only a casual watcher! I’ve always been bothered by Nathaniel’s first episode, not to mention that he was pretty much forgotten about until Reverser, only because Marc liked him and was akumatized. Come to think of it, I actually don’t really like Canon!Nathaniel. His design is neat, but whenever the focus is on him, he just comes across as a “nice guy”, impulsive, manipulative (Penalteam), guy with anger issues (Reverser). A shame because whenever he’s not the focus, he seems like a chill guy. I still love Fanon Nathaniel, he’s my baby. You can thank @artzychic27 for giving me a love for Nath and Marc. April TBR 2024--

This next month is set to be full of rereads, hockey romances, and new to me books. It is also the month I'm starting a certification program so it will probably be a bit of a struggle to get through this month's TBR. I don't even remember the last time I've thought that about a month's TBR. I really hope I have as much fun with this TBR as I'm expecting to. I've really been in the mood for these rereads and these hockey romance so I'm excited to finally get to it.

Silver in the Bone by Alexandra Bracken-- This is just one of a few rereads this month. Book two in the series comes out next month. I originally read this one as an ARC so I definitely need a refresher first. Tamsin Lark is a mortal with no magical talent who was never meant to break into ancient crypts or compete with sorceresses and Cunning folk for the treasures inside. But treasure hunting is the only way she could keep herself and her brother Cabell alive following her thieving foster father's disappearance. Ten years later she's looking for a ring that is supposed to save her brother from a curse. It's based in Arthurian legend.

Teen Titans: Beast Boy by Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo-- Another reread before a new book in the series. I remember enjoying this one slightly less than Raven's book, but I still enjoyed meeting a new character and getting their origin story. I also felt like it addressed an issue that isn't brought up a lot: male body image issues. We see it addressed a lot in fiction for girls, but there are boys who also go through this growing up. Plus it's beast boy and lots of green animals.

The Score by Elle Kennedy-- A hockey romance! I've been so in the mood for hockey romances this year. I don't know if it's because I found a few new to me authors and bought some kindle books for Christmas or what. In this one we follow Allie Hayes who is in crisis mode. Graduation is looming and she's dealing with a broken heart thanks to the end to her longtime relationship. Wild rebound sex is definitely not the solution to her problems, but gorgeous hockey star Dean Di Laurentis is impossible to resist. Just one though because even if her future is uncertain it sure as heck doesn't include Dean. It seems like he's going to pursue her after she puts him in the friend zone following their one night stand. I love it when the guy falls first or the guy is pursuing the girl so I'm looking forward to this one.

Stars and Smoke by Marie Lu-- The last of the rereads for this month. I'm so excited for the next book too. In this one we follow an international pop sensation named Winter Young who is brought into the world of spies when a major crime boss gifts his daughter a private concert with Winter for her birthday. Sydney Cossette is a member of the elite covert ops group who is forced to work alongside Winter to infiltrate the crime organization's inner circle. This was such a fun and quick read for me last year and I can't wait to go back into this world of glitz, glam, and spies.

Bad Men by Julie Mae Cohen (NetGalley)-- This one just sounded so good when I saw it on NetGalley. It's unhinged women at its finest. Saffy Huntley-Oliver is an intelligent and glamorous socialite; she also happens to be a proficient serial killer. Over the course of fifteen years, she's dispatched bad men--rapist, murderers, domestic abusers. But leading a double life has left her lonely. Dating's rough when your boyfriend might turn out to be your next victim. Saffy thinks she's finally found a truly good man in Jonathan Desrosiers, a true crime podcaster. This is a feminist thriller that asks if even a serial killer can have a happily ever after. My hopes for this one? Rich people drama and some mad women.

The Hemlock Queen by Hannah F. Whitten (New Release)-- The second book in the series is finally coming out. This series starts with Lore, who has a dark power and a hidden past, as we follow her into the intrigue of the Sainted King's royal court. The king and his priest manipulate Lore and have her spy on the prince in order to determine just who is killing the villages at the edge of the kingdom. We follow on from the events of the first book in this new one.

My Lucky #13 by Piper Rayne (Kindle)-- A hockey player who is going through a scoring draught is worried he's going to get traded before the deadline if he doesn't turn it around. Following a New Year's Eve with a woman, he has a waterfall of goals and knows he has to see her again. She wants nothing to do with him and he feels his has to change her mind. A hero falls first sounding story that I'm so looking forward to. I will say that there's a very obvious hockey error in the synopsis of this one and we all know I'm a little picky about hockey details. But I'll try to keep an open mind on this one.

Just Do This One Thing For Me by Laura Zimmerman (Library)-- I'm going to pull the synopsis straight from GoodReads since it's a Mystery/Thriller and those are hard to explain at the best of times: "'Just do this one thing for me.' Drew's mother says it more often than good morning. Heidi Hill has been juggling shady side hustles for all of Drew's seventeen years, and Drew knows that 'one thing' really means all the necessary things her mother thinks are boring, including taking care of her fifteen-year-old sister and eight-year-old brother. In fact, Drew is the closest thing to a responsible adult they've ever known. When their mother disappears on the way to a New Year's Eve concert in Mexico and her schemes start unraveling, Drew is faced with a choice: Follow the rules, do the responsible thing, and walk away--alone--from her mother's mess. Or hope the weather stays cold, keep the cons going, and just maybe hold her family together."
