I just watched this video from Maritime Gardening and wanted to share.
The next seeds I plan to start will be quite large, and I plan to let them soak overnight first. The next time we’ll be starting smaller seeds, I might experiment with this method. Not that we have had much problem with germination rates, but that waiting until they show, and wondering if any will germinate at all, is the…
Even in the winter it is possible to find a few flowers on Hebe × franciscana. This evergreen shrub is very tolerant of wind and salt spray and so can succeed in very exposed maritime positions. On Orkney the Hebe species and cultivars will freely hybridise and seeds germinate in the stone walls.

On a recent photographic week in France we visited this Chateau and loved the amazing gardens with the mirror pool and the lovely Chateau.
I just had to share this excellent piece from the Maritime Gardening Newsletter, Failure is the Best Guru.
This is the video included with the newsletter.
I highly recommend signing up for his newsletter and subscribing to his Substack.

My “seed” potatoes are sprouting nicely! I can’t get myself to purchase a small bag of actual seed potatoes for 4x the price of regular grocery store potatoes. So I just bought one of those 15lb bags of “Naturally Imperfect” russet potatoes that Superstore is selling under their No Name brand for $5.99. Potatoes are cheap and comes in big quantities so I don’t really have much reason for growing them other than to see how they grow. It doesn’t really make sense to spend premium for an experiment. New Brunswick and our neighbouring province of Prince Edward Island produces a lot of potatoes so if my little experiment fails, we can easily buy our potatoes cheaply. I’m very excited to grow them though.

Many say they “live vicariously” through us as we travel to exotic ports and see things relatively few people will ever see. But, the truth is that everyday can be an adventure if you just take time to look around you and participate.
As we sit here on Dazzler, who is by all accounts empty, we are…
