Mater Lachrymarum

In his book Suspiria De Profundis, Thomas De Quincey talks about the three Ladies of Sorrow. The first one is Mater Lachrymarum, Our Lady Of Tears.

«Her eyes are sweet and subtle, wild and sleepy, by turns; oftentimes rising to the clouds, oftentimes challenging the heavens. She wears a diadem round her head. (...) This sister, the elder, it is that carries keys more than papal at her girdle, which open every cottage and every palace. (...) By the power of her keys it is that Our Lady of Tears glides a ghostly intruder into the chambers of sleepless men, sleepless women, sleepless children, from Ganges to the Nile, from Nile to Mississippi.»

Dark Queen,

She who carries the sighs of the hopeless,

We gather as one in reverence.

We call on thee within in the endless darkness,

To release us from the mortal coil once our time has come,

so our sorrows may finally lift and melt away in the sun.

In life and in death,

We await your embrace.

Mother Suspiriorum

(Mother of Tears)

Weep for us,

Sorrowful mother.

Weep for the restless sleepers,

For your sisters who’s skins were blackened by burning flame,

Weep for those suffering from the cruelties of this world.

Let your cries fill the night sky,

And may your tears wash away the sorrows and doubts in our hearts.

Defier of God,

Maiden of Lunacies,

Through your darkness, the true wicked ones are revealed,

Where those who are oppressed find sanctuary,

Fear,

Darkness,

Sorrow,

Grant us mercy in this unforgiving world,

ghoulette halloween costumes babey

sunshine is mater tenebrarum from argento's three mother's trilogy!! youngest and meanest member of the coven. let her be batshit crazy without tossing her in as an afterthought to the other short crazy ghoul. she's gonna have her curls out wearing a fun little nurse outfit and staring just a bit too hard at everybody. chefs kiss

cumulus!!!! mater lachrymarum. prettiest and the most powerful + the tears element of the title is just SO cumulus to me i can't explain it. furthering my aurora/cumulus pack princesses agenda. cumulus will find a little cat somewhere to carry around and pet while staring really hard at everyone. also her in a cunty black dress

cirrus will be dressed as mater suspiriorum. whether that means she's going as a fucked up grotesque almost-rotting centuries old woman or a dance student will be up to your interpretation! i can not shut up about this series and halloween finally gave me an excuse to yell about it. one of the oldest ghoulettes for one of the oldest witches

mist and lume are matching! let's see what they're dressed up as

mist will keep her hair curly and put on a cute little 80s-y getup. rennie from friday the 13th, i'll explain in lume's part but! girlfriends who stalk each other girlfriends who stalk each other girlfriends who stalk each other. ifrit helped do her hair :)

lume will have her usual dress and veil with a flannel and a hockey mask for laughs! this costume is self explanatory but i love the marine/forest stuff that happens in those movies. meant for these two ghoulettes

aurora will have the most adorable jester outfit ever, complete with a nose that honks when squeezed (tested by swiss and mountain) and a bloody knife. whether this is her dressing as michael myers or her wanting to scare papa is up for debate

eden and the other cellist ghoulettes are gonna be yellowjackets characters! i still haven't seen any discussion of said other cellist ghoulettes yet so. eden as the antler queen! wilderness-associated and a bit of cannibalism thrown in as a treat :) also gay girl cult imagery. perfect for the nameless ghoulettes

My breath roams restless in this House of Sighs

Nestled dark along the cemetery’s edge,

Shrouded by tangled webs of twisted pines –

Bones buried deeply beneath the boxwood hedge.

In the attic window, a glimpse may fetch

Mater Suspiriorum, Mother of Sighs,

Wheezing in her rocking chair, cunning wretch,

Slowly suffocating in your demon eyes.

Hear her burning, an inferno she cries,

Mater Lachrymarum, Mother of Tears,

Howling past the doorsill through the Moonrise

O’er a yard of rusty vans and drunken queers.

In the angst of winter, she smells your fears,

Mater Tenebrarum, Mother of Darkness,

Cackling as the Peacock Angel appears

In a hidden vault of midnight starkness.

Shrouded she slumbers, our Mother of Sighs

Behind a wall of blue irises, she hears,

The slaying of the onyx bird with fifteen eyes

And the rolling of seven marble spheres.

Startled awake, the witches know its time –

They release your zombie tangled in the vetch

To roam this viny labyrinth of lies,

Crunching beers cans like skulls in every step.

Walking on crushed bones of lost compromise

I wander this void forever torn apart,

Forsaken, trying to rescue our tainted love

In this maze of darkness you call a heart.

I cannot breathe in this lonesome House of Sighs

De Quincey: Who are you, eternal entity? Lachrymarum: I am she who weeps for new souls! My name is Lachrymarum, the Lady of Tears, and the eldest of the three Ministers of Levanna. Because of that, I am the one called Madonna. De Quincey: If you are the first of three, then who is she? Suspiriorum: I wear no diadems, scale no clouds, nor walk upon the winds. I am the second sister, the one with the power to breathe life. I am Mater Suspiriorum, the great Lady of Sighs. De Quincey: Together you are two, and yet, you two remain incomplete. Where is the other piece? Tenebrarum: Behold! We are complete! Three Moirae accompany Destiny; three Erinae avenge the honor of the gods in Greece, and three sisters follow Levanna, for I am the third. I am Mater Tenebrarum, the Lady of Darkness! De Quincey: I see the truth of you — Tears, Sighs, and Darkness. May Levanna bless the newborns with all of your powers, then!
