HUM WELL OK UH. at first i think he doesn't really....talk about silvio much at all, and whenever he does he probably just refers to him as "the human" or anything similar. later this might develop into "my human" at first, but it's more him being kind of possessive rather than being affectionate, and the only time he really talks about him is when he tells the other automata not to mess with him in any way.

his initial reason for spending time with silvi is thinking that maybe he can better understand how to make Lady Francine laugh by observing human behavior as well as a general sort of...curiosity in human emotions & desires, plus he sometimes has silvi tell him their fortune, so whenever he speaks to the other pionniers about him he mainly just tells them about everything that he believes could be helpful or otherwise of interest to them. columbine is probably the firs one to kinda start teasing dottore about this a little and starts questioning whether this is TRULY the only reason he's spending so much time with him?? ;) but he always shuts her down pretty fast because OBVIOUSLY he doesn't care about him like that, that would be preposterous.

anyway um yeah later on when he's not trying to hide his affection for him anymore he definitely pretty much exclusively refers to him as "my silvi" or any variant of his pet names for him.... :') he'd also probably lightly boast about various things silvi does (whether or not it's actually anything impressive/praiseworthy) and generally present him in a very flattering light lmao

12: "Fame < Infamy" - Are there any unusual headcanons you have about your f/os?

i haven't really come across many headcanons about him so i wouldn't really know what counts as unusual haha....i'd say making him capable of falling in love with silvio might be unusual, but i've seen fanart depicting him in romantic relationships with other characters or just generally showing a "softer" side of him so it's probably also not that weird.....

as far as headcanons in general go, i kinda like to take some inspiration from his namesake (the commedia dell'arte character) and imagine that um...while he's genuinely very intelligent, he also has a somewhat overinflated ego (<- which is real and true even in canon i believe) and also likes to pretend he knows more than he actually does and sometimes likes to monologue about things he doesn't actually fully understand (which probably mostly concerns Human Things in his case?). silvio actually doesn't mind tho and enjoys listening to him because it's entertaining either way (plus he also doesn't really know shit) <3 also, even though i do wanna explore aforementioned soft side, i kinda don't wanna make him TOO nice lmao. i like when he's just being a pompous asshole and kills people :)

15: "G.I.N.A.S.F.S." ("Gay Is Not a Synonym for Shitty") - Once you both fell for each other, did either of you start acting differently around the other? Or did either of you manage to act normal™ around the other?

AUGH i typed up something but accidentally deleted it somehow but it's ok it's fine (smiling thru the pain). anyway yeah to be honest i think not that much would change, at least outwardly. i think they also both don't really have this huge "oh wait i'm IN LOVE with him" moment, rather it's them being placed in a situation in which the possibility of them losing each other is suddenly very real (or rather silvio has already "lost" dottore once before), and it makes them realize how much they're actually scared of that possibility and how helpless it makes them feel. so if anything, i think they'd probably just try harder to protect each other and stick around each other more closely....i also think that dottore would generally be more shocked by the realization that he's capable of such feelings at all rather than falling in love with silvi in particular, so this is definitely something he needs to unpack first once they're in a safer place

i made a post abt leon so i want to make one abt ada now . this will be even more incoherent than my leon post bc my thoughts abt ada are a lot less organized lol.

mainly just talking abt how ppl mischaracterize her despite ... literally everything. i'll probably mention re4r spoilers if that matters to you! i'll only make brief mentions to separate ways, so please be wary of that stuff :)

i feel like a lot of resident evil characters get mischaracterized, but ada seems to get it the worst imo. a lot of people seem to just take her at face value and they're so stuck on portraying her as manipulative or that she just doesn't care abt leon which is. not even true LMFAO

ada's been shown to care very much abt leon! she's saved his ass a lot despite the fact that she literally doesn't even need to. she could see him in trouble and just leave, but she doesn't because she.. cares about him? like i don't know why people like to close their eyes when it comes to this stuff.

i would like to bring up the umbrella chronicles, specifically ada's side story, death's door. death's door shows ada's escape from the NEST, and after she escapes from the sewers, she goes to meet with one of her contacts, who she finds dead. a computer powers on to show wesker, and as soon as he mentions her having aided leon, she seems to tense up almost. ada isn't really outwardly emotive for the most part, but the way i viewed her tensing up in that moment was something maybe close to anger?

obviously it could be me reading too much into it or reading it wrong, but she definitely didn't seem too happy as soon as leon's name left his mouth lol. yes it could also be because of him saying that she betrayed him, but ultimately it could've been a mix of the two.

i do want to try and tackle re2r now which is going to be kind of messy so bear with me if i word something weird.

i think re2r is where a lot of people grab on to the idea of ada strictly only ever manipulating leon and using him. and i'm not going to type out this big long thing and act like ada definitely didn't use leon for her own goal, because she did!

THAT BEING SAID, she does also express care for him. when leon gets shot in the shoulder, she patches him up and uses her trench coat to cover him up. did she have to? absolutely not. she could've just left him there without helping him, but she did!

ada really is not as cold and emotionless as some people like to portray her as, and i think acting like she's incapable of actually caring abt leon is genuinely just. dumb?

i'll jump to re4r now because the dogshit takes i've had to see abt ada even to this day kills me. a lot of them do seem to center on how people viewed her in 2r, but hopefully with the release of separate ways people start opening their minds abt her a little more.

i think 4r does a very good job showing how ada cares about leon! i don't want to dip too much into separate ways since i haven't played it yet and i've only watched a handful of things abt it, but like. she does do a lot of things to help leon during the story of 4r. she gets saddler's attention so that leon can help ashley. she does a LOT of things for leon very willingly! she very willingly helps leon and it really isn't just bc she's wanting to use or manipulate him lol.

there's so much to ada's character that people just don't understand and don't seem to want to understand, which does suck a lot. a lot of people do seem to think she's a bad person because of the work she does, and i have seen some people say that she Obviously Doesn't Care about this or that. not to bring up the ending to re4r but the moment wesker mentions that there would be billions of casualties, you can see her change in body language, and she immediately takes control of the chopper. yes, ada is morally grey, but ada isn't inherently a bad person. the point of morally grey characters is that they aren't supposed to be viewed as 100% bad OR 100% good.

ada's moral greyness seems to be a very weird point of contention for people, and while i do get preferring characters that are more direct about their motivations, i feel like having characters that are morally grey bring a lot to a story. if you have a cast of characters that are always 100% good or 100% bad and there's no hint of moral greyness, it's.. kind of boring?

like idk, personally i like that ada is more morally grey. i think it compliments how leon is very much hellbent on helping and saving as many people as he can.

i do think a lot of the dislike or outright hatred towards ada is bc of how people view + treat leon, which sucks. really ultimately, as naive as leon may be sometimes, he's not a baby. i think a lot of this also comes from general mischaracterization of leon, but that's a post for another day since this is already incredibly long LMFAO.

tl;dr: ada isn't a bad character just because you don't like her. ada isn't a bad person because of her being morally grey. i think watering her down to "bad and manipulative" without looking at the rest of her character is doing her a disservice. i'm not really saying all of this to be like "you HAVE to like ada NOW" but i do just want people to understand her a little more 😭

also really ultimately capcom is like. very bad at writing women so that doesnt really help.. anyway. thanks for looking at my long ass post abt how ada isnt bad and a bunch of other stuff

AU Where Zhongli and Dan Heng are brothers

This is just a very messy brainstorm session. Also some star rail and genshin spoilers. there might be leaks? I dont really know but just in case, be warned.

Anyway

It has to be an AU, since these two already have super complicated lore on their own lmao. Anyway the gist is that a long time ago these two are like super powerful immortals, but then they are separated because of *mysterious reasons*. Now, they can sense each other being alive, but like that's it. They don't know how the other is doing, or the state of one another. They're much older than they seem. There's also a backstory I'm building for their pre-canon brotherhood story and lore but that's a whole other can of worms. For another post, maybe.

Regardless. That is obviously not how the story should end. So, they'll have to meet. Some technicalities: It's hard to compare honkai and genshin power levels, because they're essentially different kinds of games. Fischl and Keqing got major power boosts in honkai in that one crossover event a while ago.

BUT. Meeting is possible. Thank you, Welt. Thank you, Sumeru lore drop about descenders. Lumine and Aether are Travelers, come on, it should be possible.

So. How should they meet? Should it be in Zhongli's Universe? Dan Heng's universe? Or a third part Universe? Well. One Interesting thing I have noticed, is their relationship with "Memory". Zhongli has really good, near-perfect memory. Dan Heng is running away from his past- he is implied to not remember most of his past memories.

So I established this: At the present moment, Zhongli remembers almost everything. Dan Heng does not. With this we can conclude that for the story to move, Zhongli must be the first to take action, despite the fact that Dan Heng is currently in a magic space train. So, most likely it will be in the world of Star Rail. New question: How does Zhongli arrive?

We're getting into speculative fanfic lore here. I'm better with Genshin Lore than I am with Honkai Lore, so don't hesitate to correct me if I make mistakes. I'll italicize it.

Zhongli is a deity. He is still divinity and a gnosis does not affect that, unlike how a herrscher no longer is a herrscher when the don't have the core. So if Welt can, theoretically Zhongli can too. We can interpret the gnosis as his last remaining tie to Teyvat- without it, now he can multiverse hop easier.

Side Note: At this point we don't know anything abt Zhongli's actual origins or what he's capable of.

So maybe he can open a vortex portal thing. Zhongli is really good with space magic- and him rescuing xiao also proves that he can do that for someone else. Venti can make vortexes and stuff. So maybe he enlists Venti's help. Venti is equally sus, so its only fair he gets a part lmao. So they do a lot of research- and when he's ready, he can finally jump.

Again, this is still tentative, but i do want to explore some possibilities.

Oh- but. There has to be a sort of event catalyst, right? Why? Why is this story unfolding this way? Why is it that one remembers and the other forgets?

The intention had always been for Zhongli to remember and for Dan Heng to forget but...there needs to be a midpoint. one can't do all the heavy lifting, it won't be a fun story if that's the case. So. Dan Heng's arc centers around him trying to remember- because he realizes these dreams that he has recently that are actually his memories are very different than the regular ones about Jing Yuan and Blade and the Luofu. Zhongli's arc centers around him trying to get to Dan Heng.

So. What is the goal of this story? What does it want to achieve?

Reuniting, that's the main main goal. This is the consistent point in the story- the plot is currently still tentatively being brainstormed, but changes aside-

They Have To Meet. These two must meet. preferably in an emotional way.

A bit of fanfic made-up lore details that I may want to include (as of now):

The world of Teyvat is an outlier universe. It is strange, it stands out, it remains in it's own little corner. Basically, Teyvat is just Really Really Weird. Partly inspired but how Genshin impact is kind of an outlier amongst the current Hoyoverse games. Like even Tears of Themis is set on earth.

The separation can be said to be because of Zhongli. Of course, the true events is far more complex, and me personally, I don't think it really is his fault- but Zhongli is the catalyst for this to happen. His brother doesn't blame him, and again, real events far more complex- but he blames himself, kind of. He does not regret it, but it also provides motivation for his character- and of course, the lore goes deep. Zhongli is objectively my favourite genshin character- and I have theorized many things about him.

The story is partly kind of loosely inspired by chinese drama love between fairy and devil. There is no intended romance to be included in the story, but certain themes I intend to include.

Honkai Star Rail spoilers/leaks(?) idk if this is actually a leak but Dan Heng has gone through several incarnations since the separation. Zhongli is Zhongli. Dan Heng and Zhongli are at their core magical and powerful, although at present, both are weaker than how they had been. However, maybe they can still access some of what they used to be able to do? idk

They're close brothers and they're wholesome and I love them (Not Tentative/Definitely Confirmed)

But yeah tldr so much of this brainstorm is still tentative and might be changed accordingly to what works best, but I did enjoy exploring several possibilities in the plot.

[cw mentions of ableism. talking / venting about the sharing vs non-sharing shit (i do not lean towards supporting one "side" over the other); starts out relatively neutral-toned but i start to sound frustrated part way through. i also have a more personal ramble at the very end that has a separate cw list. it's also long... don't feel obligated to read. i just needed to say things and be Done with it.]

man. i'm ready for all of the sharing vs non-sharing back and forths to stop.

to be clear: this isn't some "i'm above this argument" thing. on the contrary; i completely see where both "sides" are coming from! i simply mean it shouldn't be so difficult for a select few shit-stirrers to Get that selfshipping is a personal thing, and we should be able to ship in whatever way makes us most comfortable.

if someone is non-sharing, they should be allowed to create those boundaries without being harassed or called "immature" or "delusional" by sharing people. beyond how supremely ableist that is, nobody has the right to say they can't view their f/os in a certain way, no matter if other people don't understand those feelings.

if someone is sharing, they should be allowed to share their feelings for a character openly with other sharing people without being sent hate from non-sharing people who think they're "loose" or who want to be their f/o's "one and only". shaming people for being open to sharing is fucked from multiple "sexual / romantic purity" and "anti poly-[sexual / romantic / platonic] relationships" angles, and nobody has the right to claim sole and total ownership over a character they did not make.

and yet, every couple of weeks, we get posts from a vocal minority making a huge fuss over "the other side", when it's just a vocal minority FROM that other side ALSO making a fuss. and then those vague posts leave their intended orbit and cause more mis-worded posts and misunderstandings and off-the-cuff bigoted statements, and the cycle starts again.

we should theoretically be able to respect each other while focusing that energy on, oh i dunno, chasing harassers out of the community? getting selfshippers who aren't part of a specific marginalized group to help selfshippers from that group when they're harassed, maybe?? especially when the sharing vs non-sharing Thing very often coincides with bigotry; people who are harassing others tend to not just stop at being petty or mean, they make it personal.

and -- not as important but a nice little bonus -- i would think that working towards a community that's more safe for everyone in it would also "coincidentally" (/s) get rid of the shit-stirrers, whether because they were kicked out or because they realized what they were doing and grew as people.

but coming from someone who went too deep into selfshipping in the past and worries about the mental health of people who do: It's None Of Your Business!!

delusions aren't morally "bad" or "wrong". holding deep feelings abt a character isn't inherently delusion-based and also isn't morally "bad" or "wrong". and neither of those is the same as -- speaking from experience (above content warnings come into play here) -- being obsessed with a character to the point that you self-isolate and emotionally self harm because you wish so badly that the character was real and you believe there isn't a point to life if you'll never meet that character... and this is also not inherently delusion-based and ALSO not morally "bad" or "wrong".

these separate things -- delusions, deep feelings, and unhealthy obsession -- CAN intersect but just as often don't. none are immoral, and all are deserving of being approached with compassion and respect, in whatever way is most appropriate.

negative, harmful ACTIONS that some people take in these states are worth bringing up to them when it's safe to do so, depending on the details of their situation, but the states themselves don't have any moral weight. ie, if someone's harassing others for sharing their f/o because they're in a dark, obsessive place, that is a morally negative ACTION, not a morally negative mental state. they need to take responsibility for harm they've CAUSED, not for what they're experiencing internally.

but if you're calling people "immature" or "delusional" as an insult, something tells me you're not really considering that! whether through malice or just a lack of compassion, you don't see worth in how another person approaches this community.

you aren't better for thinking of a character a certain way, and neither is the person you're being ableist towards. if no harm is being done to you or others, you're just being a dick for the sake of being a dick. listen to other people, learn, and do better.

if you think someone is genuinely in a bad mental place because of selfshipping (wrt isolating and self harm), approach them as another human being. meet them where they're at. don't patronize them, don't call them "delusional", treat them like someone who has their own thoughts and values.

they may want help, or they may not, and you have to respect them for their choice no matter what YOU think is right. there is no truly right way to approach someone who's in a dark place, but you can at least avoid saying things that FOR SURE will make them feel talked down to, belittled, or shamed. if they aren't ready now, maybe they will be ready for help in the future, and shutting them down will make them less likely to seek that help.

(i was also going to put THIS in the tags but i should probably put it here: when i say 'learn and change' i mean it as a positive. people have the capacity to learn and grow and become better; if you've said something in all of this that can be read as harmful... consider why it's harmful and why you said it.

you aren't the same person you were a year ago. 5yrs ago. 10yrs ago. you have grown and you will continue to grow. but if you can be more aware of it and grow more purposefully and consciously? all the better.)

➼ Izana’s favorite music normally falls under the indie and rock umbrellas. He’s partial to 80s-90s rock and alternative rock but enjoys some modern indie artists from time to time. I see that he canonically listens to Queen (though I’m not sure if he does love the band or just one song), so there’s that. Other artists he might listen to are The Rolling Stones, Muse, The Strokes, Aerosmith, The Smashing Pumpkins, Arctic Monkeys (insists he likes their pre-AM music, would make a face if you tell him your favorite Arctic Monkeys song is “Do I Wanna Know”) ... and Mitski..... (you know why)

He’s fond of shoegaze because of its floaty and ethereal sound which makes him feel nostalgic and at peace. He also appreciates mesmerizing vocals and orchestral instrumentals, so I think he’d like Florence and Lana if he heard them. 

➼ Artists he would probably like: ABBA, Prince, The Cure, The Smiths, New Order, Cocteau Twins, Lady Gaga (I think she was big in Japan + her songs probably played a lot in clubs + she was always doing something shocking and Ran liked that)

➼ He’s into R&B, soul, 90s rap like Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, and Ice Cube. That’s what you’d usually hear playing in his room while he’s chilling. He’d listen to DJs too, of course, but maybe to the more underrated ones. (I don’t know that many DJs so I’m not giving names) He shares Ran’s taste for Prince. As for some newer artists, I think he’d like Joji and Childish Gambino.

➼ Likes EDM but frowns upon the EDM of the early 2010s. He has pretty strong feelings about it. Never play The Chainsmokers in his presence or die. 

➼ His and Ran’s music tastes overlap when it comes to indie/alternative artists. Both brothers act like snobs over it. Rindo actually buys and collects records (as you can see, he has a CD and DVD shelf in his room), searching for rare versions of his favorites and everything.

➼ Metal, metalcore, punk rock, emo. Anything that includes loudness and screaming. Because of Rindo’s influence, he also got into some 90s hip hop himself. He could never get into chill R&B though, and most pop songs are either too “happy” or too “sappy” for him and he just wants something that screams in rage most of the time.

➼ He’d enjoy Deftones’ Around The Fur album, as well as My Chemical Romance’s stuff, some Evanescence here and there (he’s had a crush on Amy Lee at some point), Bring Me The Horizon, Three Days Grace, Slipknot, and old Metallica

➼ He likes hip hop/rap like Rindo so they often bond over that. Mocchi listens to both male and female rappers and will not hesitate to rap extremely explicit verses if urged. Others’ music tastes easily rub off on him, so Izana’s alternative rock, Mucho’s oldies, Shion’s metal, and Ran’s disco pop have all found a place in his playlists.

➼ The type of guy to have a Taylor Swift (he likes Back to December) or Britney Spears CD hidden somewhere in his room. Also got into One Direction at one point. If anyone asks, he’ll says it’s his girl’s or mom’s. 

➼ Okay, not Western, but he listens to Kpop and Jpop and stans girl groups. 

Get a feel of his music taste: No Diggity - Blackstreet, Family Affair - Mary J. Blige, Dilemma - Nelly ft. Kelly Rowland

MUCHO

➼ If Ran’s got the music taste of your mom, then Mucho’s got the music taste of your grandparents. His taste in oldies is a lot similar to Ran’s but goes further back in time. He enjoys the “classy” feel of most of these songs and the way these singers sing. His favorite genres are funk, soul, R&B, and some oldies pop.

➼ You rarely hear music playing in his house. But if you do, it might be Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Bee Gees, The Carpenters, or Simon & Garfunkel.

➼ And as for some more modern artists: Coldplay, Hozier, and Silk Sonic. Would enjoy Lana del Rey’s style too, especially her Ultraviolence songs.

➼ Kakucho listens to music to relax. He usually likes to play music while he’s cooking, cleaning, or just idling around (though that’s rare). His taste is more of chill, easy listening. Izana and Rindo influenced him to like alt-indie, R&B, and rap as well. 

➼ Kaku doesn’t “stan” artists. If you ask him who his favorite artist is, you would not get an answer. He’ll listen to anything that sounds good to him no matter what people think of it. 

➼ That said, he’s the person Izana makes a face at for saying that his favorite Arctic Monkeys song is “Do I Wanna Know?”

More abt them under cut:

Blue: A Bowgart. Very shy, pretty much to the point he gets anxious around others. He mostly talks to those he's very familiar with, and can take a very long time to warm up to strangers. Once beyond his shyness, Blue is a bit talkative, and very knowledgeable in many subjects. He reads and cooks/bakes a lot, usually stocking up his dainty cottage with sweet treats. Blue is a very caregiving individual, taking in Tweedledee as his "son" when he hatched, and raising Lily the Human when she stumbles into the Monster World. He tends to be reserved (like most Bowgarts) and reasonable with others. His dark blue fur (compared to the nearly baby blue-cornflower blue of regular common Bowgarts) allows him to stand out amongst his kind and other monsters. He's about 5'9".

Twig: A Shrubb. He's rowdy and energetic; always landing himself into some sort of trouble (that Blue usually gets Twig out of XD). He's bold and somewhat reckless in everything he does, but does have a hidden timid side, though that doesn't come out often. He lives in the castle with most of the Monster population on Plant Island. Twig, along with Cozmo, love doing stupidly dangerous things and pranks on other monsters. Twig isn't afraid to speak his mind, which usually lands him into trouble with other monsters. All in all, he radiates a "I don't give a fuck" attitude. Twig is nearly 10 feet tall when he's fully standing up.

Cozmo: A Ghazt. She lives on Ethereal Island with her parents, but often visits her friends on Plant Island via teleportation. She can and will be sarcastic and sassy, but once you get to know her, shes kind and loyal at heart. As mentioned previously, she loves getting into stupid kinds of trouble with Twig, sorta like the "partners in crime" troupe. She has a knack of taking things a bit too far though, which often lands someone hurt (relatively minor and 100% accidental in all cases). She seems like a tough cookie on the outside, and though she is, Cozmo can be sensitive at times. From tip of horns to tip of tail, Cozmo is about 5 feet even.

Jadau: An Entbrat. As all Entbrats are, hes a gentle giant. Jadau has a paternal and generous spirit, making him great around the little ones. in fact, he regularly volunteers (or works) at the daycare on the island, entertaining the little nuggets and telling them fairytales and monster fables. Aside his storytelling and fatherlike soul, he takes great care to make sure no one gets hurt, whether that be his family, the little ones, and especially his friends. Jadau stands at about 10'6".

Tweedledee: A Maw. Found as a hatchling by Blue, he's known no other parental figure since. No one truly knows who Dee's true parents are, and no one has bothered to claim Tweedledee as their own biologically. You could say that Dee is somewhere between a pet and a son in relation to Blue, but everyone just refers to Dee as Blue's little companion (nonexplicit to what he actually is, pet or son). Dee is about 1'9", and often barks and yelps in his own little Maw ways.

Bumbleweed: A Potbelly. B owns and works on a farm, selling his produce as the best on the island (and it is). Master tradesmonster, he knows the market inside and out. Bumbleweed will often sell seasonal produce instead of the more common year-round produce (which tends to fluctuate in quality; i'll explain more in a separate post), and work a pawn shop/stand in the winter months. His most frequent customer at any given time of the year is Blue, to no one's surprise. Bumbleweed, unusually, has yellowish stripes instead of darker green spots along his "spine," the latter being what most Potbellies have along their "spines." B is about 5'1" in height.

All of them, maybe except Tweedledee, are around 22-24ish. Blue and Twig have been friends since early youth, and Twig introduced Blue to Cozmo and Jadau in primary school (yes they have school i said so).

Maybe I'll just give him a true form like Nia and Jin. Perhaps the reason why he looks like a regular guy is because he learned to suppress anything that made him stand out so at least bystanders who don't know him/about him would treat him as more than just an object/weapon. Probably the only people who ever got to see his true form were the scientists who turned him into a Blade Eater and those he killed in combat who gave him enough trouble that he needed the extra power/concentration from not constantly disguising himself. His elemental power in particular would probably be much stronger in his true form. (I don't think I've ever mentioned this before but he's a water blade. And idk I think I'll make a separate post abt how he fights at some point :) )

Your opinion is your own of course but respectfully I have to say I disagree with your friend about the Heartstopper show having nothing to say about mental illness. It’s absolutely touched on more in the show than it was in the early comics. Charlie’s eating disorder is implied, and his low self-esteem is explored and we see it impact his life more than in the first two volumes of the comics that the first season covers. There is one added scene in particular in episode 8 with Charlie and Tori that is far closer to Solitaire’s serious themes than anything in the first two comic volumes.

Mental health as a topic hasn’t been explored explicitly yet, but the groundwork has been set for them to fully delve into it in season 2. The story just hasn’t gotten there yet. And I think it makes sense that it was kept on the backburner in season 1, because they weren’t sure if they would get a season 2 or 3. I think they didn’t want to fully open up Charlie’s eating disorder, OCD, and self-harm storyline if they were unsure they could get to the point where he starts getting some help (though it’s definitely there and more than we got in the comics by that point in the story). Since being renewed, both Alice and Charlie’s actor have talked a lot about how a major focus of season 2 will be the mental health themes. Alice has even said that they wish they had not glossed over some of the harder parts in Charlie’s story in the comics, that they felt a bit trapped by the format, and feel the show is an opportunity to explore those parts more deeply.

So I guess my advice would be maybe check in around the time season 2 comes out and see what people are saying? I think it’s just too soon to tell where the show will be going with it. But it’s definitely not absent from the show in season 1 even. The groundwork has been laid. And as someone who struggles with a lot of the same issues as Charlie, his characterization and story in season 1 made me cry because it hit me so personally.

I really appreciate you taking the time to tell me more abt the show. obviously, I haven't watched it-- in fact, I tried my best to stay away from news about it bc it squicked me out-- so I'm glad to hear that Alice has spoken some about the fact that heartstopper (comic) glossed over the harder parts of Charlie's story. that same ''glossing over'' was why I stopped being able to read heartstopper (in 2021 sometime?)

I would really love it if season 2 does touch more on Charlie's mental illnesses! and I'm happy they have laid the groundwork for it-- from my distant perspective, the show really looked like a fluff piece, which (obviously) broke my heart. I read solitaire as a self-harming, anxious and compulsion-ridden teen and saw myself in so many parts of both Tori's and Charlie's stories. Without saying that I'm glad you've struggled, it's reassuring to know that you could relate to the show's characters (as it means that I might too, if I could get over my hesitations).

I totally get that heartstopper (show) had to make concessions for time and planning reasons: I have a whole separate rant stored in my heart about the fact that so few TV show get to plan for a multi-series story arc like they used to. in any case, you've convinced me: I'll unblock the tag when I hear s2 is out, and see if little ol' teen me will get the heartwrenching moments that I once loved Solitaire for!

i appreciate you taking the time out of your thesis proposing to think abt beiguang heh. it's nice to see that your answers are about what i expected, though the drabble collection only needing to be abt half beiguang minimum is interesting, since the similar archive-style ship-centric collections i've seen treat drabble-collections-as-one-work more strictly and require it to be a collection Only about [ship].

anyway, abt the rules again, i wanna know if chatfics are banned on principle. bc i massively sympathize with "no chatfics" as a rule-- it really does feel like they're a nuisance genre that clogs up ao3 tags bc they tag like eighty things that each receive maybe 0.3% of the fic's focus, making them exhausting to see when looking for content About the tags you're sifting through, and i could probably write a whole tedtalk complaining abt chatfics on ao3 and how they fail to creatively utilize the epistolary style of storytelling-- however, is this a ban on fics styled as chatlogs, or is it a ban on the type of wishy-washy, unfocused fics that "contain" some (insubstantial) amt of beiguang but tags it as such anyway (which are also exceedingly commonly styled as chatfics)?

bc as rare as they are, i have read fics in chatlog format that were actually substantive in plot and/or pairing focus (unfortunately nothing i've seen in genshin meets this criteria ;-;), and i'm sure there are plenty of homestucks out there willing to go to bat for the validity of stories told through chatlogs. so if the intent of the rule is to just keep the wishy-washy, shallow fics out, then i think this rule is more about substance, and would be more clearly stated as smth like "fics must contain substantial beiguang (this excludes most chatfics)" along with an explanation of what constitutes substantial beiguang.

which i think would also bring in a more elegant solution to the question of "where do you draw the line between A Beiguang Fic and Fic That Has A Lot Of Beiguang?" i think a good way of thinking abt it would be to ask if the ship in question are a focal point of the story at large, which is why i agree that the double date example would make sense to include in this sort of collection, whereas i don't think a chatfic (as in, the sort of fics that turn the genshin tags into slush piles in the first place) that's mostly about all the characters in one group chat, but then has one chapter that are just dms btwn beiguang, would really count, because even though they received focus for one section, they're probably not what the story is trying to be about.

chatfics tend to be very aimless and as a result, whatever interaction happens btwn characters feel shallow n lacking in substance. since people's definitions of "substance" will probably differ (and i don't think there's any one way to do so w/o including smth that was meant to be excluded and vice versa), a good way of doing this might be "there is enough of this thing in the fic that someone looking for it in particular and is neutral abt all other ships/tropes/whatever will walk away satisfied w/their ship's part in the story."

granted, i doubt all this nuance would let any chatfics in anyway, but these thoughts are more about leaving the idea of what art looks like open anyway.

that being said, i'm also aware of the uh... unfortunate f/f tag raid that happened (is still happening? i don't check the tag enough to know) recently. for the sake of not obfuscating, i'll just speak plainly abt it from this point on, so apologies if i make you uncomfortable, and feel free to like, answer this privately and/or only publish parts this ask in a separate post (which i suspect would probably be prudent anyway since you Cannot readmore asks unfortunately).

so, the influx of maliciously mistagged fics informs my understanding of the "no rape fics" rule. however, out of sheer curiosity (as rape/non-con is real high up on my squick list), would this be a blanket ban on any and all fics dealing with the subject (i.e. would a fic be excluded even if it was only implied/referenced/in the past and not covered in any level of detail?) regardless of context, or is there again a sliding scale going on here? and would the line be drawn around the content itself (difficult to define), or authorial intent (difficult to prove)?

i'm sure there's a middle ground between these things, some balance btwn being true to very real community wants and needs (a place to browse for beiguang fics with the knowledge that they are safe from bad actors), and honoring the intents of authors who write contentious subjects in good faith and sensitively.

but ofc, this would also require a lot of effort to outline and maintain, and i think those are grounds enough to blanket ban a subject the beiguang tag has previously been attacked with if that is indeed what that rule means. approaching anything in art with nuance is exhausting as hell when you have to do it all the time, but i suspect that my idea of "assume fics are written in good faith until proven/judged otherwise" is too lenient for a space as absolutely cutthroat as genshin shipping.

("how would you even prove smth was written in bad faith" if it was tagged incorrectly/blatantly missing tags for subjects obviously dealt with in the fic, though that would then turn this rule into one more abt Tagging Your Stuff Correctly And Accurately)

even if both these rules are ultimately blanket bans made on principle, having a rule abt good faith submissions might be a good idea anyway, since i'm certain that a Very Determined Hater could write something that technically falls under all the other rules (features substantial beiguang, is not a chatfic, and is in fact perfectly free of frequently discoursed topics), but would otherwise qualify as ship hate/bashing and just generally be a malicious submission.

anyway, thank you again for entertaining my Long Thoughts, as i'm mostly here as food for thought. good luck finding mods to help out, too, since manpower is imperative for a project as thorough as this (as well as also generally good foresight for when people ultimately change fandoms)~~

Yeah I was thinking about the drabble thing and considering how people tend to do drabbles, I think if you click in and there’s an at least 50% of it being a begging one it should be included lol Chatfics in the genshin fandom, well. Even if there are good ones, due to the sheer abundance of characters present no ship or character really gets much spotlight for more than a few phrases every chapter, they won’t get included. While I understand that there are good fics out there that incorporate a chat log between two characters, and two characters specifically (such as a phone convo), I have yet to recall seeing any in genshin. However if one does show up and gets recc’ed into the achieve, I will take a look first before adding it if it is beiguang focused! (also, quick apology for the possible spelling errors but autocorrect is out for my life today) And yeah, the chatfic rule I think rn is more of a principle thing, owing to how tired some of us are at scrolling through pages of fics and coming out with like 70% chatfic, but the suggestion about “substantial” beiguang (pls stop trying to autocorrect into briguant) will be one that I’ll try to take into account! and probably add to the rules once my brain recovers from weekday stuff, esp with the focus suggestion. And for the more sensitive questions, yeah I’ll throw it in a separate post just after this one. Thanks for the luck! Hope this is okay to bring up but all th points u made in that post abt ppl white woman-Ifying viktor Yeah. It’s impossible 2 scroll through certain tags on this site (or any tbh) without seeing some bad jayce take because people don’t understand they’re completely separate characters. Or refuse to read viktor as he actually acts in arcane OR league just because he’s their scrungly sad little meow meow who can do no wrong and everyone and everything is out to get him. It’s incredibly annoying too because people are Making content based on league lore, but are basing it off other people’s fics instead of reading the lore, so it’s like a self repeating cycle, not sure how else to explain it but it just sucks ass and it makes it hard to interact with th majority of ppl making art for the two of them

that is true! sorry, didn't mean to localise it as an issue particular to just arcane because yeah, it's been happening since the arrival of 2016 viktor's lore (and maybe even before). i can't count the number of times jayce has been accused of genocide(?) or stealing blitzcrank by hiding him in his trenchcoat and running away or purposely trying to get viktor expelled (in the order of significance ascribed by most fans), or any other weird crimes people can dream up because the fact is that if you look at his biography instead of basing your entire knowledge off of drabbles and AUs and author's notes and inside jokes and references he did... none of these things?

like there's nothing gloating about how he describes viktor getting expelled -- i'd argue he didn't intend for it to happen at all. but somehow in fandom discussions or reddit posts people stretch it to jayce stealing viktor's wife and kids or whatever i really don't get it! and if you argue from the lens of interpretation i'm not sure what textual basis you'd have for that at all given that jayce is notably distraught after losing viktor.

of course jayce doesn't do himself any favours by not mentioning blitzcrank, or trying to defend himself, but you only really fall victim to thinking viktor was in the right by doing an entirely surface level reading without realising, hey, maybe trying to strip people of free will is bad?

i understand being more emotionally engaged with viktor's side of the story, and if you read jayce's biography after reading viktor's your viewpoint is already shaped by the uncharitable way viktor depicts him, but honestly if you're going to try to engage with these characters in a serious level i'd at least ask for you to try and figure out what is going on (or don't, if it's more fun i guess i can't really police how you consume fictional men).

the "genocide" that they believe is happening (please google what genocide is) is so... GUYS HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHY VIKTOR WAS ABLE TO CONTROL AND ORDER AROUND THE AUTOMATONS THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO BE THE ZAUNITES' NEW BODIES? like there is room for nuance here obviously if you can be bothered to think it through but at a surface level glance viktor is not in the right here. i'll defend viktor and write him and love him until the day i die but that's not because i agree with what he is doing, it'd be because i enjoy him as a character and find him interesting to explore.

maybe people conflate this emotional attachment with the belief that since so much wrong has been done to him (which i won't deny, just that a lot of it wasn't jayce's fault) viktor must be in the right, and jayce becomes the target of this righteous anger because how dare you not defend this poor little meow meow victim of all of society's faults!

and all of these things are multiplied tenfold by looking at it through the lens of arcane and refusing to even consider how the two SEPARATE iterations would fuse together. now white woman A!viktor is dying, and isn't that just so pitiful? why WOULDN'T you let him commit all those atrocities, and if you REALLY LOVED HIM you wouldn't BETRAY HIM AND SELL HIM OUT! WHICH TALIS DOES NOT DO BECAUSE THOSE EVENTS ARE NOT PART OF ARCANE THEY ARE PART OF LEAGUE! or something or the other. and frankly this is just disrespectful to all four characters.

the image most arcane-only fans have of giopara would be "asshole", which is true, but he's also a complex layered character that loses a lot if you choose to reduce him to one archetype, and if you choose to misinterpret a character and then blame him for your misinterpretation it's like... well i really don't get it but it's whatever because it's for real just a video game biography/TV show.

Second of all, i reread the glorious cancer moon post and wanted to give some more feedback!

It's so true that it's second nature for me to absorb everybody's feelings to the point where I don't know what feelings are mine or not,,, and in my family my mom is the biggest energy donnor (and drama queen) and she always comes to me to vent or even ask for advice,,, and she's done that since I developed a conscience wjjdjsjsja but plss- the restriction in sexual orientation hit so hard,,, like last week I was having an argument with my mom abt it and It hurts SO much to see how homophobic she is and the fact that maybe I'll never be able to actually come out to her ( or the rest of my homophobic fam,,, ) and the fact that it makes me feel torn is such an understatement,,, yk I also have moon conj Saturn so I'm thinking that also makes it difficult to express emotions freely and easy to separate myself from them,,, kinda like another person is feeling them and not me lol; also also!! I have my Cancer moon in 4° so guess that makes me 10x more of a crybaby sensitive ass bish kwkdkakx

Basically a review of OP episode 503 ig

Currently rewatching post-war arc (in the dub so I don't have any screenshots for u guys sry) and theres a few things id like to point out.

During a conversation Dadan once had with Garp, they were talking about Roger. Garp said that even if they were facing powerful enemies, he would never run away because he wouldnt dare leaving his comrads behind; it wasnt an option for him. Obviously we see this in Ace. But ALSO, isnt this what he did with Katakuri? It was a little different cuz of the setting mostly, but he separated himself from his crew to fight off katakuri, and lied to them about being okay so they didn't worry (he was already getting his ass kicked by then, so he just made that stupid smile and told them not to worry (or smth like that, I can remember the exact line) (that smile was so gross and fake cuz he fucking sucks at lying). Also he said roger destroyed a buncha soldiers cuz they mouthed off his men. That's what Ace tried to do but instead he died. :(

"The pain he went through just made him hold on tighter to the ones he loved" -Garp, about Roger. "Despite his flaws and his bad reputation, his crew still trusted him completely." -also Garp, about Roger. These both sound a lot like Luffy AND Ace.

When Dogra got home and told everyone about Sabo's ship being shit down and him dying (which we all know didnt happen, thank fuck), (by the way the absolutely lost looks on Ace's and Luffy's faces with the sudden silence hurt like a bitch), Luffy started crying and said "WE SHOULDNT'A LET HIM GO, IT'S ALL OUR FAULT". Which fucking says something about him (thinking of episodes 913-915 when he goes fucking berserk, but before that he learns that Kaido probably killed Tama and he says "I should've escorted them..!" (*ugly cries*)). Ace also reacted pretty similarly-- "Sabo...why didn't we go back into town and bring him back here?! We're so stupid!" And he gets mad and asks where he could find the bastard that killed him (obviously not getting a good answer since it was a fucking celestial dragon ugh). That is what Luffy does, in present time. He results to anger first, not sadness. Not sure when he learned to do that but I'm 99 percent sure it was from Ace. Also the blaming himself thing? High chance thats ALSO from Ace. Who else would teach him that self hating behaviour?!

Dadan pins Ace down to stop him from going after the Celestial Dragon to calm him down, telling him he cant do anything, he's not big or strong enough to do anything and he'll be killed as soon as he tries anything, especially since it was the whole country -the whole WORLD- that killed Sabo. He can't do anything. And then they tied him to a tree outside to let him cool off. Oh yeah then he also told luffy to stop crying like a little girl or else he'll- (and he didn't finish the sentence). ...Ok maybe thats why luffy started being more angry than sad.

This is where things get a little more :( . Ace reads the letter Sabo sent them before he died. As he reads, he walks to the end of the forest, to a cliff overlooking the ocean. And starts fucking bawling (btw the voice actor who had Ace's childhood part did not do a very good job, no where near as in character and real as Coleen Clickenberg did with all of Luffy's crying scenes. She was spot on.) ...do you see where im going with that? He isolated himself before letting himself feel sad. It was all rage and then calm beforehand. Y-you see where im going with that. Dont make me say it.

"How's Luffy doing, is he any better?" "Well...he hasnt been eating much, but he still eats twice as much as we do". Oh look, That's what happened after Ace died too. There's a behavioral pattern that hasnt gone away. Not sure why it wouldve tho.

Luffy is mopeing, lying on the ground in a similar setting ace was at when he cried. Hes thinking about some of the things Sabo said, like how theyre gonna sail the seas together, and he clenches his hands into tight, shaking fists. After Ace shows up and hits him, and talking abt some other stuff I don't feel like relaying, Luffy tightens his grip on the straw hat and tells ace, whimpering, he wants to get stronger (and stronger, and stronger, and stronger and stronger and....) And he wants to be the strongest in the world. "And then, I'll protect everyone. I won't lose anyone I care about". He gets stronger mainly to protect the people he loves. And then he asks ace to promise he won't die. To which he hits Luffy again and tells him he should be more worried about himself dying first. And then the famous line that hurts like a bitch- "I'm NEVER going to DIE!" And then this hopeful music comes on (fucking damnit funimation, u gotta do this? Really??) Also he says he wont die as long as he has a wussy little brother to protect. ...FUCK. Ok, the fist clenching is a thing he does all the fucking time, usually when he gets mad. This was different because he wasnt mad, he was sad. He clenched his fist because thinking about it hurt. Which, huh, sounds a lot like his whole episode after waking up from his 2 week coma on the polar tang. To try and stop the mental pain of those horrendous memories, he resulted to physically pain. He hurt himself. So, He clenches his fists in times like these to fight off the mental pain and the urge to cause himself physical pain. Guys, our boy is bad at emotions, help him. ....ok this paragraph is longer than I anticipated so ill dumb down the rest of it ig. Next part, him asking ace to promise he wont die. The music, the body language, the over change in mood- this comforts him. He stopped hiding his face and silently sobbing after ace said this. OH YEAH! didn't he tell jinbe not to die when they parted ways in Totto Land? And then, hes missing still in Wano and we see Luffy is worried....but convinced Jinbe will show up. Again, this comforts him. Hes nervous cuz someone KOFF KOFF ACE broke that promise once. But jinbe is his crew mate so he trusts him, thank god.

"-But whoever did it, they must be opposed to freedom." The whole freedom thing? That runs through Luffy's blood and spirit.His brothers fought for it, his dad is the man who strives to give everyone freedom basically, and Luffy himself has seen enough of the OPPOSITE of freedom to be so, so much more than just against it. Hence why he of course was so eager to free the slaves in Sabaody, the kids in punk hazard, the toys in dressrosa, the country of Wano from Kaido's tyrany. The apple doesnt fall far from the tree huh.

I dont think Luffy would remember his promise with Shanks if it werent for his brothers putting feul to his dream. It was a stupid bet at first; he just wanted to beat Shanks, right then. But after meeting Sabo and Ace, he found the opposite of freedom and human rights. And then he wanted, REALLY wanted, to become the free-est man in the world; the pirate king.

Last one i promise ok? This one is less connected to whats going on in the episode at this point, but something I noticed (its so obvious everyone has seen this ok) was when luffy cries, his posture is always open. He doesn't curl in on himself like many people would do (I know I would, lol). He doesnt hug himself, protect himself. He's just, opened up to whoever is watching, literally. This has a little more to do with something I haven't talked about much in this post yet; his self-destruction issues. I said he tried to hurt himself when he felt mental pain, which is definitely similar. But he cries and doesnt try to protect or comfort himself, like he doesn't have that programmed into his mind. Reminder that he only wants to live because of his dream, and if he doesnt have his dream, he wants to die. (Whoa.). Ok, so no self preservation mechanism at all rlly. Hes basically ride or die. So, when things hurt so much that he cries, he has no hope left. He just kinda...dies inside. So this was mildly different after sabo died. Yes we saw him just standing there, sobbing. But the next day he's still crying, and instead he's laying on the ground. I saw that and the voice in the back of my head told me he wanted to be a part of that lifeless dirt beneath him. Then, Ace walked over. And his words made him feel the hope that I told you about earlier, and he sat up into a sitting position. And HUGGED HIS LEGS TO HIS CHEST. There's some self preservation! Some hope! Some will to exist, to live! Something we saw none of as he sat in front of his brothers corpse, shutting down. He sat there, open to his enemies, incapable of protecting himself. Practically anyone couldve killed him right then and there. I think he mightve liked that, at that moment. Like thank god he has that stupidly good luck cuz if he didn't I swear someone couldve thrown and axe or FUCKING ANYTHING AT THAT MOMENT and hed be dead becuase he never physically or mentally prepared himself. On purpose.

Our poor boy needs some fucking attention and therapists. (Insert my rant post about how jinbe is on the crew primarily for anger management and therapy, not just being a helmsman.) Ugh, smh ugly cries

Aaaaand thats about the end of the episode. Theres so many little tics and peesonality traits that you notive thru this episode, and I only noticed them cuz im rewatching this part of the show for like the third time. I don't react as much as the first time of course but some things are definitely sadder after knowing what's going on and what will happen later on.

Moral of the story (post)? I think luffy is almost equally as alike -if not, more similar to roger as ace is. Also, high key genuinely think Luffy met like NO ONE but Garp before he met Shanks and his crew. What the fuck was his first like 5 years of being alive like? (He wantd to be a pirate cuz Garp didnt want that. Rebellious baby asshole. And then shanks made things worse, in a good way for luffy. And then ace and sabo made that worse thing worse for a good reason. Luffy lives...for those influences. And that is fucking it. Why.
