I don’t think a canonverse fixit where Jiang Cheng just “deciding” to throw himself behind the Dafan Wen could end well; I think both he and Wen Qing understood that, which is why she returned the comb to him in the Burial Mounds instead of trying to call it in.

This doesn’t mean that ye olde time-travel fixit couldn’t end well, though, because a time-traveling Jiang Cheng can bring back one critical resource: experience. It’s not just that he knows how the war will proceed, what choices proved to be good or bad; it’s that he is not mentally a flailing teenager in the postwar. He knows these men, these sect leaders, in a way he couldn’t possibly have done then, in a way he wasn’t trained for because no one expected this. He knows what they want and what they’re willing to do to get it. He knows what is normal in inter-sect politics, and what is older sect leaders taking advantage of him not having elders or advisors of his own.
