Common misconception about the og mirage ninja turtles comics that really pisses me off is that all of them are just “the angry one”. Like no the hell they ain’t. They’re just grittier than all the incarnations that came out after they did. Leo is still the leader, Don still does machines, Raph is still angry (he’s just angrier than usual), and Mikey still cracks jokes. You can see all their personalities in there if you pay closer attention to how they’re each written.

Leo is the first turtle we meet in issue #1 and he is not only narrating the entirety of the first battle against the purple dragons, but you can CLEARLY SEE HIM LEADING THE CHARGE IN FRONT OF THE OTHER TURTLES IN THE FIRST PAGE AND LANDING THE FIRST BLOW ON THE SECOND PAGE (with Don right behind him). We also see him coming up with plans as early as issue #2, when he leads the other turtles to distract the mousers while Don and April reprogram them. Another example of Leo’s personality would be the Leonardo micro series issue (which was adapted in both 2003 and 2012) when he fights the entire foot clan on his own before shredder throws him through April’s window, showing that he is still clearly the most skilled and disciplined of all the turtles. Raph even comments that Leo is probably getting carried away with his training.

Raphael is even more obvious. In issue #1, Raph is described by Leo as so eager to fight that he’s actually quivering with anticipation. Later on in the story, the Raphael Micro series issue (which was adapted directly into the 2003 series S1E4: Meet Casey Jones and to a lesser extent the 1990 movie) He loses control over his anger while sparring with Mikey and nearly kills him in the heat of the moment. Then he meets Casey jones who makes him struggle with his anger even more before they bond over fighting crime.

Donatello isn’t as over the top as his later incarnations, but he’s still very much the smart one. In issue #2 the fist thing we see him doing in his down time is fixing up a circuit board. And later in that same issue he tells April he’s familiar with computers and helps her reprogram the mousers all by himself. In issue #11, April writes about Don fixing up all of the old machinery around the farm house to keep himself busy.

Mikey's sense of humor might be the least obvious to spot, but he still has his silly moments. At the end of issue #4 we see him pull this silly stunt when he's almost left behind by the other turtles. In the Michaelangelo Micro Series issue we see him shred on a snow sled and adopt klunk before geeking out in a toy store.

The turtles have always been the turtles. Whether they all have red bandanas or not they're still the same turtles we all know and love. There are even more examples if you read the dang comics but I’m too lazy to go through all of em for screenshots lol.

Percy Jackson spoilers and criticism below.

I see people complain about how the show just has the characters figuring out things way too quickly (I completely agree with this.) Then I see people complaining about that criticism saying things like “Oh it makes sense! They would know that because Annabeth’s been at camp, Grover is a satyr, and Percy’s mom taught him about the myths!” However, there is a difference between them knowing about the stories and them IMMEDIATELY figuring each potential trap/situation out and zapping the energy from the scenes.

These same instances in the book usually involve a feeling of unease, something feels off, things seem kind of familiar, and it slowly dawns on them what they are dealing with OR they are escaping one situation to be thrust into another and don’t have time to think about it at all. There’s tension, there’s drama. I’m here for it. The show on the other hand? Oof.

Also the circumstances in which they encounter these situations in the book greatly influence how things go. They are human(ish) after all and them getting into these messes makes them easier to connect to as characters. Let’s break it down a little more there.

- With Medusa they were lost in the woods and hungry. The smell of food lured them in. They were hungry children dang it! From the circus lol (Honestly, this instance didn’t bother me too much in the show when I first watched it because it was early on before the knowing things too soon became an ongoing theme.)

- With the Lotus Hotel and Casino they were tired and feeling grimy, having just traveled in the back of a truck with a bunch of animals in horrible conditions. It was scorching hot outside. They were absolutely exhausted and wound up there where a doorman invited them in and it was a relief to have somewhere to take a break, recoup and figure out their next move. Once inside they had access to a shower! There were snacks. Plus the place was incredible. It also showed their interests with Annabeth being drawn in to trivia and city building games, Percy liked the bungee jumping! Grover played a reverse hunting game! Percy figured out the trap by asking a guy using 70s slang and dressed to match, what year it was. He kept asking and getting different answers. Then he was able to snap Annabeth out of it by describing spiders, which he knew she had a fear of from the Tunnel of Love ride. (This whole scene in the show was such a let down, so was the Tunnel of Love scene but I’ll leave that alone for now.)

- With Crusty they were on the run and dashed into the store. This encounter is one of my favorite moments of Percy’s quick thinking in the books btw. Also his absolute lack of hesitation to slice someone’s head if they mess with his friends. Percy is smart. He’s very street smart actually. In the book this scene shows that really well. (The way I paused the show in frustration and almost turned it off when the episode started already at Crusty’s with the line “I know who you are.” Like of course. That’s just how we’re telling this story now. Check. They met Crusty. And he doesn’t feel like a threat at all. But they met him I guess.)

The exhaustion and the circumstances in these instances in the book and getting into these traps aren’t the trio being “stupid.” They were moments that set up the situation to feel more relatable, alive, tense, and interesting. The show’s changes have taken away most of the tension from these scenes. Them knowing and catching on to things so quickly is lazy and it is incredibly boring. It just feels like they are checking off a list of places from the books they wanted in the show, while losing the entire energy and impact of those locations and scenes.

To me everything in this show feels like it’s at 20%. The humor, the stakes, the tension, the personality, the freaking lighting (why is so much of this show so hard to even see?), the whimsy, the magic, the charm. It’s all so dialed back and watered down. The book is a roller coaster of making you laugh and putting you on the edge of your seat with the tension and situations these kids get into. It’s campy, it’s intense, it’s crazy, and so energetic. The show feels bland in comparison. Idk how you manage to make Percy Jackson feel boring but they did it.

I’m not asking for it to be an exact copy of the book. I’m just disappointed with how dull it is. When it’s boring and it’s a scene that was the furthest thing from that in the original version then YES I’m going to compare it and wonder why there were changes to make it less interesting. In fact, my favorite scene in the show so far is actually the taxi in the parking garage scene. It captured the energy and vibe of Percy Jackson really well and it’s a scene not in the books at all. The energy is important and this show is lacking severely most of the time. It has some really good moments (back to that 20% thing) but overall it’s such a let down.

We have one episode left of the season and I don’t exactly have high hopes of it making things better. It just makes me sad because I wanted to love this series. The incredibly talented cast, a major studio behind it, passionate people being involved including the author, amazing source material… I look at all of the ingredients and it should be amazing. But I’m pretty disappointed right now.

Bruce isn't the best parent, but a chunk of the issue is that he's an only child. Should he stop Jason and Dick from throwing Damian back and forth like a human ball? Is Tim threatening to bite Cass an issue? Are those death threats serious or not? The poor man is an only child trying to run herd on at least a half dozen feral siblings. He exists in a state of constant confusion.

This isn’t to be mean, but that is simply not the case.

I keep getting bad parent bruce takes and it sucks because all of them aren’t even proper reasoning for his character.

I’m just using you as an example, but hear me out.

Bruce is an extremely smart person, Homie has watched movies and read books, he can learn from situations around him that things are sibling things. Sure, he was excluded as a kid, but that isn’t nearly the main issue why he isn’t the best parent.

homie has so much shit wrong with him, he’s emotionally just not there, he keeps himself stuck in a perpetual state of grief and mourning for his parents of a thing that happened when he was a child, he has been trained by assassins and has experienced loss and pain to an insane extent, he has such an insane extent of paranoia and trust issues that it affects his daily life, is definitely autistic, and has issues with social cues.

I’m trying to properly articulate just why that’s not the case but my brain isn’t working with me so I’m handing this over to my twin @bonebrokebuddy who is far more articulate than me.

Hi, it's Billy, Bones's twin writing because Bones had a hard time putting this into words and I'm more of a canon nitpick than her.

Uh- have you ever. And I mean even once, met an only child.

I promise, if you read even a singular comic, you could tell this take is incredibly out of character.

Bruce isn’t a good parent. He’s also not a bad parent. He loves his kids. He literally could not stop them from pulling dumb shit if they tried and putting themselves into danger.

Bruce is the worlds greatest detective. He knows how to spot and detect emotions and trouble in his kids. He’s The Worlds Greatest Detective.

His issue with being a parent likely comes from having Alfred as a father figure. Imagine having a dad that you can fire at any time, you pay so they can stay with you, and can just leave at any moment if they don’t approve of the person they work for. That will severely fuck up a kid.

His issue isn’t that he’s an only child, it’s that it’s every Robin’s god given right to go against and defy Batman’s orders whenever possible because kids are viscous little buggers who don’t like being told “you can’t do that” even if it’s for their own health, they’ll do it anyway.

After you’ve taught your kids how to exist in deadly situations, they think they’re invincible when it’s because Bruce is doing all he fucking can to make sure his kids don’t get hurt. If they feel like they can make the world a better place, they’ll do it, regardless of the risk because they’re inherently self sacrificing and good people.

Bruce’s issue with parenting is due to his relationship with his kids. Again, it isn’t that he’s an only child, it’s that the kids he adopted are their own people and they are even more stubborn and bad at communication as him.

Even more so, it’s due to the dang narrative.

Conflict between Bruce and his kids that cause them to separate has been the backstory for plenty of solo batkid runs to endure Batman isn’t as involved or the main focus of the run.

Narrative tension is literally the cause of all the bad parent decisions for Bruce, because conflict drives narrative or miscommunications cause the story to lengthen and complicate itself

it’s not as easy as “Bruce is bad dad” because he’s Not. Bruce is good with kids! He has a pouch in his utility belt specifically with suckers for kids!

But Bruce isn't a great world star dad either. He definitely inherited his ability to communicate with people outside crisis situations largely from trainers around the world and his arms-length-distance-at-all-times distance relationship with the butler who raised him.

Despite him being good with kids, his kids have lives of their own with morals and opinions of their own that conflict and clash constantly. It’s not a simple case of “Bruce is a bad dad.”

It’s a case of “everyone has slightly different opinions and approaches to situations so occasionally conflict happens when they clash or interfere with each other” because it’s a comic that tells a story!

Anyways, my recommendation? Pick up a comic. And preferably? Read it. Or watch BTAS if it’s more accessible to you. either works. This opinion isn't your fault most likely, just the quality of the DC fan-content you've been consuming that are incredibly removed from the comics. That basically sums up the exact stuff I couldn’t properly describe. I was using you more as an example because I have dozens of bad parent bruce takes in my inbox and I am 90% sure that the cause of them is that they simply haven’t read anything about the character.

Read a comic, read some strictly DC fanfiction, watch some of the many many TV shows and animated movies, there are even motion comics free online to watch that have voice acting and everything!

Being an only child doesn’t make you a bad father.

Not happy.

At all.

I’m sorry.

But he’s not.

Having your face being sucked into a book 24/7 doesn’t let you leave with much attention for him.

He’s attention deprived put down the dang book and hug him.

Another reason that fuels his hatred for your love of books is because your behavior reminds him of Deku - like, a lot.

If he wasn’t deeply in love with you he would have tossed you into a garbage can, but he’s Bakugo so he’ll probably do that anyway.

But if it really mattered that much to you, he’d respect it.

And probably take his anger out on Midoriya instead.

I doubt he’ll surprise you with books as gifts, considering the fact that you have every known book in the universe written by every author ever.

But if you ever see a book you like, he’ll buy it for you, even if you already do have twenty different copies of the same book with different covers.

And no, he won’t let you pay for it yourself.

If you even try, he’ll start yelling and angrily threaten to murder the cashier’s entire family if they accept your payment instead of his.

“SHUT UP, I DON’T CARE IF ITS ILLEGAL, IF HE DOESN’T TAKE MY MONEY I’M TAKING HIS GODDAMN LIFE.”

He’ll hardly ever openly show his respect or liking for your hobby ever.

With him by your side, you’ll never make any stupid spelling mistakes.

But if you start reading too much and disregarding your studies, he takes it upon himself AS HIS DUTY AS YOUR BOYFRIEND TO KINDLY DRAG YOU AWAY FROM YOUR BOOKCASE

He appreciates your interests, but won’t let you fail school.

So don’t even think about it.

I seriously doubt he sees the root of your interests at first.

He’s understand right away if it were textbooks for school - cause its educational.

But fantasy books and the like? I doubt he’d get it immediately.

Whether you like books or not he’d treat you the same either way.

He’s a mix of Bakugo and Todoroki.

He would never let you fail school.

And at the same time, buys you all the books you want.

With the money he took from Endeavor’s wallet.

“Huh? Oh don’t worry about the cost. Its not my money anyway.”

You’ll never need to worry about paying for your books again.

Besides, if his dad does find about him stealing the money he’ll emotionally guilt trip him into giving him allowance.

Its a win/win anyway!

You get a book and he gets to annoy his dad.

He loves seeing your eyes light up as you glimpse at your new book and watching your grin getting progressively wider.

His house is huge too, so I bet they have a library or at least a ridiculously large bookcase. Either way, he’d take you to his house and while he works on his homework, you skim through the books.

He loves those moments near you - even if you aren’t talking or touching, you’re just there, and thats all he needs.

-he knew you were trying so he refrained from reacting if any jokes slipped out

-of course, sometimes you would say a joke like that just to get him to hit you with a pillow

-it was all in good fun

-it never ended well for you tho

-come on.

-going against someone THAT tall and with THAT kind of build?

-yeah... all the pillows within a ten mile radius had their insides all over the floor by the time he was done pelting you with them

-splinter always made the two of you repair them but you didn’t mind

-honestly your humor is not too different from his

-you’re both sarcastic

-you both have dry humor

-the only difference is that his humor is always to make him look good

-yours always brings yourself down

-he knew it was always a joke but he never knew how to take it

-he couldn’t correct you seriously because then his ‘bad boy image’ would be ruined

-but you... his non synthetic darling... saying all gathers things about yourself?

-he couldn’t take it

-but how could he get you to stop without asking?

-he briefly considered bringing back the machine that temporarily made his brothers smarter so he could change it to make you stop saying those things...

-but he learned his lesson the last time

-if only it were that easy

-so he spent a couple nights on the computer, searching up how to make someone stop making self deprecating jokes

-he was going to have all his data together and bring it to you as an intervention ONLY when he was ready

-sadly that didn’t happen

-you walked into his lab and noticed he was busy reading an article. Thinking nothing of it you skipped over and stood behind him to read over his shoulder. You frowned when you read the title: “how to stop self deprecation in your teenagers.”

You snorted, startling him out of his peaceful sitting. “Donnie, what is this?” You featured loosely to the screen as you sent him a playful glare. “This is a parenting article.”

He finally caught his breath and turned back to the computer guiltily. “Yes yes I know... I was just... trying to stop Sheldon from getting mouthy with me.”

You raised a brow. “You sure that’s it?”

He nodded and avoided eye contact. “Yes that’s it. Its nothing.”

“So if you were to compare my IQ and what you were doing it’s both nothin-?”

He stood up quickly. “That’s it! See that’s the problem! I’m just tired of you always saying this about yourself! Sure it’s a parenting article but that’s all I could find!”

-Dang he was on a rant for probably twenty minutes

-once he was finally done you decided to give it a try

-after all he was clearly bothered by this

-more than he cared to admit

-so you sat down with him and looked up ways to stop

-he tried to make you do that rubber band trick people used to break bad habits but you drew the line there

-you two made due tho

-(he slowly got you using a type of humor more like his: one that made you talk about yourself in a better light)

Leo:

-the first time he heard you say a joke that wasn’t in your favor he thought it was pretty hilarious

-until you kept going

-sure it was funny at first but he only wanted to hear so much of it

-he adored you!

-you were his and he loved you to death!

- he decided to shower you with affection every time you were negative

- you lounged on the couch, waiting for something interesting to happen. You sighed “this is more boring than my love life- AH!”

Leo jumped on top of you.

“Leo get OFF!”

“You’re so beautiful, babe.”

“Im a goblin now get off!”

*cuddles even more violently*

- everything you tried resulted in violent attention

-one thing about how you looked lead to rapid fire kisses being peppered onto your face

-a word about your personality cause you to be wrapped into a blanket with him for over ten minutes

-you stopped very fast when he started picking you up and carrying you away from whatever conversation you dropped your dry humor into

-still whenever you want attention or you’re simply missing him, all you have to do is text him that you’re ugly and he’s at your window

Mikey:

-you tried once

-it got you sat down with Dr. Delicate Touch for an hour

-somehow Mikey had a presentation already ready

- it was both informational and terrifying

- he loves you so much and he doesn’t want to hear you say anything bad

-anytime you start up again he slips his Dr. Delicate Touch glasses on and gives you a look

-you always stop right away and go back to painting with him or whatever activity you two were doing together

- it stopped really fast

-well, the saying the jokes in front of Mikey did

-he somehow always managed to catch you though

Answering these together, here's the first one

One of the funniest parts of this AU is that Kim always pays for Chay's time when they hang out together, but Chay refuses to accept the money. He just uses it to fund their dates/gifts for Kim. It literally does not matter how broke he is, it's the principle. He's trying to prove he wants Kim, not just his money, dang it!

There's the tiniest bit of angst in that as much as Kim enjoys spending time with Chay, he is genuinely worried that it's only about the money, and Chay will eventually get tired of him. But Chay is working very hard to prove that will never happen.

Here is your 500 words!

Kim had to give it to Tankhun, his brother had impeccable taste. From the elaborate decorations to the scantily-clad escorts furnishing the venue, every inch of the party was drenched in excess splendor. Khun had spared no expense in celebrating his 30th birthday. A number of escorts approached Kim throughout the night. None of them caught his interest. He stayed mostly at his brother’s side, rolling his eyes at the pretty boys that managed to draw Kinn’s eye, sharing a private laugh with Khun with their middle brother snuck off to partake in their offerings. “I don’t understand why you did all of this,” Kim said. His brother had never seemed particularly interested in sex, and while he could easily afford to rent what seemed to be an entire company of escorts for the night, Kim couldn’t see the point. “I like pretty things,” Khun sniffed. His eyes traced the path of a shirtless, handsome man as he passed by with a tray of drinks, a pair of smart glasses perched on his nose and a look of intense concentration on his face. Khun snagged a glass as he passed then turned to Kim with a smirk, patting his cheek. “That's why you’re my favorite brother.” Khun’s favoritism was even more fickle than their father’s, but it wasn’t nearly as cruel, so Kim allowed it. He would appreciate his new status until he inevitably did something to annoy him again; or until Kinn won him back with a no-doubt ostentatious gift. “Ooh, look at that one, isn’t he a darling?” Kim followed Khun’s shameless pointing; it wasn’t hard to figure out just who had earned his attention. The boy looked entirely out of place. While everyone around him was clad in their best haute couture—dressed for a gala, no one willing to be called out by Tankhun’s shrewd eye, and even Kim let Khun design his outfit for the night—the young man wore a simple button down shirt and slacks. His smile was endearingly awkward as he tripped over seemingly nothing, letting himself be caught in the arms of a guest more interested in looking at his ass than breaking his fall. “It’s a good act,” was all Kim said. While most of the escorts were presenting themselves as sensual, tempting things, hiding behind coy smiles even as they bared their bodies in invitation, Kim could see the appeal of the naïve ingenue. Eventually Tankhun wandered off to mingle with his guests, thriving under their verbose praise, and Kim was left to his own devices. It didn’t take long for the boy he’d noticed to find his way to Kim’s side. Kim watched him try the same trick on two other guest, tripping into their arms and giggling in their ears as he thanked them. Most entertained him for a few minutes, then brushed him off in favor of more tantalizing company. After the third attempt he’d locked eyes with Kim, an embarrassed flush creeping across his round cheeks. He swiped two glasses of champagne from a passing waiter and made his way over. “I guess I’m caught, huh?”

Boats and books..

kurapika x f!reader

(you meet a blonde haired boy on a boat. With a mutual liking of books, you think you and him are going to be good friends.. or more.)

(my idea, not a request)

“What a day.. I’m finally on this boat though..” you mumble to yourself quietly, walking taking a seat in a room with the other apparent passengers. You don’t take note of any and dig through your bag.

“Come on.. come on..!”

Your finger meet a smooth, hard box shape and you smile in relief. You take your beloved book and flip open the cover to the chapter you left off on. But unfortunately, just your luck, right about when you set your eyes on the page, the boat starts moving back and forth, and assuming it’s a bad storm, you sigh.

People in the room your in start falling over and clutching their stomach, looking sickly. You immediately smack your book down and head to go get some water for the other passengers. When you arrive back, all the other passengers are sprawled out on the floor, except one.

He had blonde hair, a type of clothing you’ve never seen before, and something of interest to you: a book.

He was sitting on a hammock, seemly not noticing you walking in.

Handing the water to those who needed it, you then turn to him.

“Don’t get seasick, eh?”

“Mm? Could you repeat that?” He turns to you lowering his book slightly.

‘Dang i was half expecting him not to reply- what do I say now??’ You think to yourself anxiously.

“Oh! Uhm.. I was just saying you don’t look bothered by the effect the storms having on the boat.” You try and fail to make eye content. He’s strangely intimidating to you.

“No. I guess not. I could say the same about you.” He lowers his book to his lap, putting more of his attention on you.

“Haha, funny thing, I actually have terrible motion sickness. But I took my pills before getting on, somewhat expecting something like this to happen.” You think about your choice of words and wonder if you said to much.. wait. Why do you care so much? He’s just some random dude!

“Smart move, good for you.” You can’t quite tell if he’s being sarcastic or not. His expression doesn’t seem to be changing that much through this conversation.

Having something of an awkward eye contact moment, you decide to speak up a bit about something you noticed.

“What book are you reading?”

“Mystery.”

“Mystery? I love mystery! It’s my favorite! I actually have one I brought as well!…”

He simply stared at me wide eyed.

“……sorry, I just really like books. I-I hope I didn’t, make you.. uncomfortable, I’m sorr-“

You get cut off by the sound of a boyish voice chuckling softly.

“Hah, why are you apologizing? I really like them too. Id like to see the one your reading, if you don’t mind. Then I can show you mine.”

“W-what? I mean.. of course! Yeah!”

“..cute.”

“Huh?”

“It was nothing. Now what’s your book called?”

Look, you know as well as I do that I love TAOCC to freaking death

but like

I may have to partially step away from it after the current arcs are over.

these goofy goobers took over my life for the last three-ish months, and while I’ve had an amazing time, it’s…caused me to neglect other parts of my life, and restrict myself more than I should when it comes to how I am on this site. I’ve stated my intention to try and branch out multiple times but I never go through with it because I just…I have things to write here! I can’t! And yeah it’s fun but sometimes I get hurt even if people don’t mean to, like, I’ve gotten legitimately ill from this once or twice.

But I feel like even trying to step away a bit is somehow abandoning all of you or betraying your trusts. I want to stay friends with you guys, but my actual life and Irlsie has to come first most of the time, because I am not JUST Elsie, if that makes any sense. Elsewhere is and was always meant to be a sona for some interaction, maybe some friendos, but nothing this…involved, because I can’t put all of my social effort onto the internet because no matter what I do, the internet is not a completely genuine place, and I’ve accepted that. There are some parts of my personality I just don’t use. You don’t really ever see calm Elsie or mental illness Elsie or sappy Elsie, maybe once or twice, and that’s intentional. This is Writing Elsie’s blog, lol, but there’s other Elsie that needs to be allowed to exist outside of the internet, and I can’t neglect her or my actual life for the sake of this.

I honestly don’t know what to do here. I love these characters on a very personal level, and have poured my heart into them, and I don’t want to straight up leave them. Even only partially separating myself seems kinda pointless because I know what happens when someone gets really behind on the lore and has to be caught up on even just a day’s events to explain why Character A looks like this now or Character B is referencing this event, etc. etc.

But there’s a point where it’s not healthy anymore. Where things reach a place where I have to admit that this can’t be my entire life anymore. And I’m not entirely sure what on earth I should do about it…

If I do somewhat step back, it’ll probably be right after the vacation arc ends. i’m gonna pour my fluff loving heart and soul into that thing, don’t you worry. But you shouldn’t expect another dungeon or something like that from me unless I have a VERY good reason and a well formulated plan. Yes, I’ll probably still engage in shippery and fluff, as well as analysis, but mostly within the bounds of characters and dynamics we’ve already established, and not much farther than that. My one exception to the “after the vacation arc” rule would probably be Yelena’s arc, because of how long things in that section tend to take, for various reasons. Yelena’s arc is barely started, and stuff takes possibly days to move even a few hours in-universe. Sooooo….yeah, I wanna finish that, I’ve put too much work into it already to just stop it.

Ok. I've read over this a couple times.

First off, I'm talking to you as L here, and not Star. I am very, very proud of you for acknowledging this and understanding that this is getting unhealthy. I think it's very smart that you dont want to neglect your yourself irl and the fact you're saying this, and saying exactly what you'll be doing, I'm really proud of it.

To give you a clear answer, if it's going to help you irl then I think stepping back is smart. Especially from the trauma and angst, because that stuff hurts a LOT and it can be really, really detrimental and negatively affect irl things. What I DONT think is that it's betraying anyone. You need to be able to put yourself and your needs first in order to be your best self, and everyone understands that you can't be on tumblr 24/7 because, well, that's really really really really unhealthy and not good. I'm really glad you're telling me about this though so I, and everyone else who sees this, knows.

TAOCC is really great but there's a LOT of heavy things on here and with everything going on, it can be super weighing and really affect people irl. I can speak from experience because honestly, I'm in a similar situation. I won't speak much about that though. It's definitely addictive and can get really really unhealthy if you let it, and honestly it's not hard to let it.

I want you to do whatever you feel is best for you, no matter what that entails. Fei and Tails and Xeya and Kumo and so many others and I love you so much and do NOT want you neglecting yourself and your life irl for this- it's meant to be entertainment, not a lifestyle.

I think it's smart to finish Yelena's Arc before partially stepping back. And I think it's even smarter to not want to do another dungeon, because that whole thing was a massive angst-fest and I think it negatively affected people more than they care to admit. Shippery and fluff and minor things is a good boundary.

I'll wrap this up now, but again, I'm in full support of this decision because I want you to be at your best. You're right, you're not just Elsie. And it's not fair for you to only be Elsie when you're so much more than that. If stepping away from tumblr will help you take care of the other parts of your life that we aren't involved in or aware of, then please do so because no part of you and your life should be sacrificed for the sake of entertainment.

Again, I'm really, really proud of you for admitting this.

Please know we'll always support you and you're super important to all of us, so don't ever feel bad for putting your needs first. Irl things should always come first.

But no matter what always remember:

WE LOVE YOU SO SO SO MUCH AND YOURE SUPER IMPORTANT AND WE WANT THE BEST FOR YOUUU ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Everything I said is applicable for everyone else reading this too. Taocc is fantastic and we love it but it shouldn't completely take over your life. It's okay to take a break or step back fully if it means the best for your health and irl life. Please remember to take care of yourselves- and everything that Elsie talked about here is FANTASTIC self care. It may be hard, but it's also the best decision she can make for herself and may be the best decision for others too.

Alright- I think I covered everything. Don't ever feel like you're betraying us Elsie- it's not betrayal, it's self care. We'll still be here for you, always. Never forget that ❤️❤️❤️

Inspired from this @sha-biest post,I saw it and almost bunked my head while trying to get my phone to write this,this actually have some similar things with my ‘Famous in the end-time’ AU for the boys,but Ehh,it was an old AU and it featured the boys being singers/influencers/actors (I remember discarding it because I already have so many AUs,should I continue it though?).One of the reasons why it’s also not in the ‘All my creations’ list,it was so old I think it was one of my first ever AU for the Rottmnt fandom.

I am so unwell for Mikey especially for some people who draw him so gosh dang handsome *fans myself*.I’m a Donnie and Leo Stan but Mikey…he makes me feel things that shouldn’t have existed,so anyways,have my actual AU of Mikey being an actor/model/influencer etc x Reader,enjoy little birdies~

Clicking sounds was the only thing that was heard inside the studio,photographers taking as much pictures as they can get as the model posed in each second passing,making sure their hips swayed and hair flared for extra dramatics,a little too much but it seems to make the people happy.

Mikey was an ‘Ehh’ kinda happy

He can’t judge nor be a judgmental person,he isn’t that harsh and isn’t really him.He was friendly with his coworkers mostly and always talk with sweetness and friendliness that makes him a favored personal on the fashion industry each day he entered for work,but it doesn’t mean he doesn’t find some ill or annoying in some instinct.

His snout scrounged in pity judgement as the model in front still kept doing flashy moves like in a Barbie movie,he knows the full instinct of doing something dramatic to get more likes as a model but damn…it’s more childish and prideful then actual determination as he sees it,years of past familiarity making him a bit more knowledgeable in this whole ‘fame and game’ thing,still,it makes him shake his head as he just waits for his turn with a drink in his hand,bored out of his mind.

Self-build apparel had become the world’s top 1 fashion industry the universe has ever seen -plus with matching hand flares when Donnie said it in his meeting,so dramatic and flamboyant as always- ,a tacky un-creative name but he can’t judge but smile since it’s his older brother that made this company,as weird as it is,it still had a huge investment just five months after its first opening.Very ironic since Donnie also had a company dedicated for technology and ‘vision of the future’ that only grow viral after,counting with his fingers,a year and half.But Donnie’s smart business skills weren’t the only one that gained the two companies popularity in the whole world,maybe with a little bit of Leo’s and April’s help,it might also been Mikey’s little doing.

As many had mentions him before,Michelangelo was the crown jewel in the company as many say it multiple times now,he was good looking,he won’t doubt he is.Shiny black long locks of hair that flows down the ground like silk,yellow and orange threads decorating it like he dyed it permanently only to know that it was just the effects of overuse mystic and ninpo magic,smooth green skin even with his age -(he isn’t old,he just turned 25)- ,round face but with a mature chin to even his maturity,golden and blue rusted eyes that twinkle and shine,beautiful yellow spots in his face and body like golden tear droplets,and a perfectly mixed ‘masculine plus feminine’ body -(similarly like Leo but at least he wasn’t always called a ‘woman’ so many annoyingly times,good for him)- .Out of every model in the company,he was the most favored -not because he was the brother of the founder,which would have been bias- and most liked out of the public,fame rose quick and steady with just his first few real debuts.

And not only is he seen in magazines and advertisements,also in movies and TV shows as a minor character,turns out you could also be an actor with just showing a few talents of acting while still juggling your model career.Many people already demanded that he plays a more leading role or a major character in a film but he turns them down,being a background character is good enough so his life won’t be too hectic.

His career went smoothly nice in the first couple of months.Fancy parties,talk shows,big meetings,tentative offers.Designer clothing soon filled Mikey’s closet till he needed to buy two more,suede shoes and even some heels,and some other trinkets he gets from his shopping or fan mails or generally some things that were gifts from his family.The rest of his brothers did their own thing.Leo became of a known actor and singer,thanks to his incredible acting skills and vocal range that he can do and take,his ego was being feed in the daily bases but at least he didn’t abuse it that much then Mikey thought.Donnie was an in and out actor,influencer and model,since he is already busy keeping his two companies check and steady running so he doesn’t really have much time to indulge on the fame part,but he still is a pretty well-known dancer after debuting on a dance competition,people went wild after that.And Raph is starting to be a well known action movie star,boxer and a gym fitness guide for all three of them since he still sees that they need to stay healthy as possible

And Mikey?

Busy being a pampered model and privileged actor that his time of doing his favorite hobbies,like painting and drawing and even cooking,was barely any hobby anymore.His brothers did too,but at least they had a little bit of more time.He could only do it in his free time,which would only be once to twice a week or less.He doesn’t even need to be taken care of,a sole reason why he didn’t ask for a assistant,even if Donnie insisted it to make his schedule more clearer and free,his starting to regret it.

(Ahh,so this what fame feels like?,wonder what would have been if he was a famous chef instead?)

“Ughh So boring,why is it taking so long?”He groans,taking a long sip in his pineapple juice to cool down his steam,heart-shaped ice clinking together as he dawned half the drink,it worked its charm but the coldness slipping down his throat was a little too much,maybe he shouldn’t drink something this freezing too much.

The cat yokai behind him just hums,”Im sorry sir,The boss needs as much pictures as he can get so he could post the magazine next Monday”

They say with the usual polite tone,taking the now empty drink in Mikey’s hands before offering another one.He glanced at it before smiling,taking it one hand as the other was still supporting his chin placed on top,the armrest creaking a bit from his weight.

“Well,at least make it quick so I won’t have to wait the whole afternoon ruining my makeup”He kindly demanded,still haven’t abused his power of being the brother (again) of the founder of the actual company even if it was tempting,they only nod.

Uggh,another long day

“Help?”

Mikey spoke curiously,standing up straight were he once was leaning casually in the leather sofa.He was now in Donnie’s office after finally being done with his photo-shots,resting in the placed sofa that was put there from his request,and from Donnie also so he could have some time with him if he can.

He was tired till his bones but he still managed to have some energy to be curious,even though he only wanted to sleep and pass out.

The said purple turtle just nod and looked away from his computer one second before returning to clicking in a fast pace,taking a few silents before he answered back.

“I’ve noticed how your getting tired lately and your schedule being unorganized,I’m starting to wonder maybe you should have an assistant with you to help you on your activities”

Those were words of worry and concern,even if it was monotone and serious in the mouth of the source.And that was quite sweet.

“I appreciate your concern Dee,but I don’t need it,I can handle this myself”Mikey just waves off his offer with a shake of his head,being truthful with his words but only made Donnie frown,looking at him fully as well as stopping on whatever he was doing.

“Don’t be ridiculous,You need it and besides,an assistant is what you need to keep your schedule free and clean”

His words were tempting,making the orange turtle imagine the possibilities of having more free time then before,maybe he could finally have time to cook and paint again,that idea made Mikey’s eyes bright.

“You really mean it?”He spoke with a squeal,tiredness leaving and instead came childish excitement and that made Donnie chuckle lightly,already sensing his eagerness to have so much time if he does agree.

“Yes,I really mean it”

Another happy squeal,but Mikey cough once to keep calm and acted mature again,his childish excitement in his eyes still remains though.

“Well,Sure,I guess”He spoke nonchalantly

“Good,You’ll meet them tomorrow”

Maybe I start mirroring the Letter Column here??

Hi Evan, I have been reading your work for years–I came in right at the end of Rice Boy and read Order of Tales and Vattu every MWF from beginning to end. And then I got a new phone and didn’t reinstall my feed reader and was dismayed/delighted to find I’d gone for nine dang months and didn’t even know 3rd Voice existed! I’m just now catching up, really enjoying the comic, and appreciating the space you’re creating around it. To my question/pondering: the way the information gets parceled out to readers is both one of the most compelling and frustrating things to me about narrative. I see with 3rd Voice you are leaning heavily on show-don’t-tell, rather than the ponderous info dumps that plague a lot of science fiction and fantasy. The trade-off for making a better story and more believable characters is that there’s a lot we don’t know as readers. Some of what we don’t know is known by the characters (such as what "new person" means in their social context), some is not known by them (such as the existential knowledge that Navichet is seeking), and some is a mix (like Spondule and Navichet’s backgrounds that they don’t disclose to one another—or us). For you as a storyteller, how important is the revelation of knowledge in the creation of the story? Do you see 3rd Voice relying a lot on the revelation of knowledge as a way of wrapping up the story arc(s), or is there just a lot of stuff that the reader is never going to know and you’re OK with that? Firstly thank you for the comment on the “space I’m creating around” 3V; I am not exactly sure what you mean but maybe I do and maybe would like to know exactly what you mean.

This parceling-of-information has become an absolutely central part of how I look at invented-world fiction; I started nailing down certain principles (all extending basically from show-don’t-tell) years ago and am trying to still work with them as smart as possible. Vattu is built with the same approach in mind! A solution in that comic to the problem of avoiding Explaining is to keep things fairly simple, iconic, self-explanatory. 3V can foreground these questions of “what the world is” a little more comfortably I think because of Spondule & Navichet’s relationship to it, and because of it being a kind of Broken place with bigger questions therefore automatically implied.

I guess mostly I want to emphasize that the details of the setting and how everything fits together isn’t necessarily what the Story is About, and the disorientation built into this sort of storytelling is something that I’m aware of and that I think is Fun. So I mean a lot of the bigger stuff has been Figured Out / is being Figured Out on my end, BUuuuut there is a reason that I am telling the story from the point of view of two marginal idiots. This I guess connects to what I was saying in a previous lettercol about “Spondule writing” and “Navichet writing” in my process for this thing…

To your specific questions, “revelation of knowledge” is as important as the knowledge itself-- this is a central principle to me at this point. Storytelling to me is entirely a structure of knowledge-revealing. And there will be unanswered questions forever but I’m not sure how many exactly and that’s life I guess lol. thank u so much for thoughtful thoughts!!
