My MC Headcanons (Skeleton Variants)

Stray Headcanons

• Strays are the result of normal skeletons reaching freezing temperatures. Cold doesn’t effect skeletons the same way it does most other mobs. While most mobs take damage, and eventually die, from the extreme cold; skeletons do not. Instead the cold hardens their bones, leaving them frost tempered and extra resilient. 

• The ‘clothing’ strays wear isn’t actually clothing at all. It’s the result of frost accumulating on the skeletons’ bones, the darker color is thanks to the frost mixing with some kind of essence that coats the skeletons’ bones. Remember, skeletons aren’t ACTUAL human remains. They are indeed classified as ‘undead’ but that’s only because they lack “living” qualities such as heartbeats and organs.

• And strays, like their more common skeleton variants, utilize the bow to attack and defend. Despite the fact that with their ice hardened bones they would honestly do better in close quarters combat. But using nothing but bows is all they know, so they continue to use them regardless of their changed biological toughness.

• Strays also have a glow in their empty eye sockets. No one is quite sure why, and for what reason it develops. But their non frozen brethren do not possess this glow. Some speculate that it’s thanks to magic found only in the icy/snowy regions. But this is based solely on conjecture within the field of comparative anatomy.

Wither Skeleton Headcanons

• Wither skeletons are an entirely different beast to tackle. So little is known about them that for the longest time it was believed they were hardly even related to skeletons, many believing that they were far off distant cousins. Not only because they are larger than normal skeletons by a noticeable amount but they utilize stone swords as their weapon of choice instead of the bow. Something unheard of to skeletons and their stray variants.

• Others wondered if wither skeletons and normal skeletons were in the same situation as artificial/natural drowned, where they look almost identical but have drastically different origins. Though finding out if this is true or not is almost impossible since wither skeletons have only ever been found in one place; nether fortresses. No one is sure why they’re exclusive to those spots. 

•  And besides the fortresses natural dangerousness it’s hard to stake them out for long thanks to the Nether’s unforgiving atmosphere. Things like water are practically nonexistent for researchers to access while studying, so wither skeletons have remained largely a mystery.

• But the things we do know is that withers are presumably normal skeletons before undergoing some type of wither transformation. This is because wither skeletons always drop their normal, non withered bones when defeated. So whatever wither curse is on them fades once they’re killed, leaving only their once again white bones behind. The mystery of how or why they’ve become wither creatures is entirely unknown, but everyone assumes it has to do with the Wither itself. A mob too dangerous to summon to study.
