Hello friends! I made a post a looong time ago about how back when the Noragami anime aired (the first season), in 2014, we did not have Yukine’s backstory like we have now; despite that, the scene we got in the anime where Yato named Yukine and received all his memories, was all relevant. That really amazed me; I know mangaka and writers plan this stuff in advance, but certainly not all of them, and it would have been easy enough to retcon or change things (and there are some scenes here that indicated things may have been changed).

So in appreciation and curiosity, I went back and screencapped all the brief scenes the anime gave us, to compare them with the corresponding manga panel/chapter. However, a tumblr picture post only allows 10 pictures and I ended up with 13, so I’m gonna pick the most interesting ones.

Not included here is the very first scene, which is of a cat looking back at the camera. Yukine has not been shown to have a cat in his past life, nor was there any indication of a cat in his family (at least as far as I can remember) so I’m gonna go ahead and comfortably put this in the “symbolism” camp, as it could be a stray cat or anything you want to interpret it as, really.

The second scene, also not pictured, was of luggage. This clearly relates to his sister and mother moving out. Again, when this aired back in 2014, we would have had no idea what this luggage could have related to!

The third scene, pictured, is more curious- two hands shaking. I don’t think it’s too far of a stretch to guess that the extended hand is their father’s-- but who’s the one reaching out to him? Yuka? Could this be the dad making a deal with her about keeping Haruki? But that’s not what happened, right, it was the other way around...Could be that the hand is actually Haruki’s. Unsure. Could correspond to volume 23, chapter 91, pictured below the anime shot.

Scene 4, pictured, is CLEARLY Yuka and mother leaving, with Yuka looking back. BACK IN 2014. WHEN WE KNEW NONE OF THIS, NOR WHO THEY WERE, ETC ETC.

Scene 5, not pictured, is just a pair of shoes on the ground. This could be anything; not quite sure what the symbolism is meant to be here.

Scene 6, also not pictured, is just Yukine huddled by himself facing a wall. Could be anything also, but more likely just him enduring his dad’s abuse.

Scene 7, also not pictured, is a broken mug on the ground, liquid spilled out of it. Could be a sign of the father breaking stuff in his anger.

Scene 8, pictured, is the letters- the letters!!!! Again completely relevant and traceable to the manga! Specifically it’s the dad stepping on the letters, which does not have a direct equivalent manga panel, but the one I put under it is pretty damn close, from volume 25, chapter 96.

Scene 9, pictured, is most curious. This is an arm, likely Yukine’s, with bandages surrounding it. This was likely meant to tie in to the reason his sword form has bandages, but it was never expanded upon (and I doubt it will be in the last few chapters we have lol). I do wonder what the intent was, though-- maybe a mark of his abuse by his dad. We’ll never know!

Scene 10, pictured, is a lot of empty cans of alcohol. Clearly related to his alcoholic dad (though I guess it was never confirmed he was ALCOHOLIC for certain, but definitely a heavy drinker lol). Again not a 1-to-1 manga panel correspondence, but a pretty close one came from volume 24, chapter 94.2!

Scene 11, not pictured, is a wallet with some money strewn around. Probably to symbolize the financial situation of the dad, which was to say, not great lol

And scenes 12 and 13, pictured, are likely Yuka turning back to look at Yukine, presumably-- though I do wonder. Given the tie and suit, I wonder if this was meant to be YUKINE/Haruki when he was alive (it does kind of look like him, doesn’t it?), or if Yuka was originally intended to be Yukine’s BROTHER, or something else. Could totally be wrong, could just be an old design of Yuka! I do wonder though.

Anyway I love Noragami. It’s great. This was a silly thing I wanted to do, but it was fun to dig through the screenshots and pause every second haha. I know the fandom has mixed opinions on the anime, but it’s what introduced me to the manga, and I still do really love it. And Bones put a lot of love into it. I really hope we get a season 3 someday (and so does Kaji Yuki, according to his tweets lol). Thanks for reading!

“Here is your winner…” Justin Roberts’ voice sounded as if he was underwater as Paul Turner placed the women’s title in my arms… well the interim title, not the actual title; when Melissa came back from injury we would have a unification match. I was exhausted after this match, every single woman gave her all and I was happy to have been a part of it.

As I finally was able to drag myself off the mat to raise my arms with the title ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ by The Rolling Stones started to blast through the arena. I looked around and noticed that my opponents were out of the ring, and the cronies who had helped the Joker win the casino ladder match earlier in the night had surrounded the ring and were standing on the ring apron. Any time I tried to leave the ring they gave me almost freakish smiles and shook their heads no. My last attempt was trying to get past Stokely who just laughed and pointed behind me. I could hear the fans freaking out but I still couldn’t help the scream I let out as I came face to face with the Joker.

I looked at the haunting mask and tried to decipher who was under the mask but it was no use. I saw his hand reaching towards me and I immediately scrambled back, flinching when I backed into something hard. I looked to see two of the biggest brats in the promotion-Austin and Colten standing directly behind me. I spun myself around to face them and temporarily forgot about this masked crusader who has caused nothing but chaos for the men’s division.

I let out a choked scream when The Joker’s hand covered my mouth; I was flailing my arms so much that I dropped the title and Austin and Colten restrained me slightly. I could hear the fans screaming either in shock or fear or anger, but the even though I could hear them the blood rushing through my ears was the more prominent sound. The Joker leaned his chin onto my shoulder which made me flinch slightly but I was kept in place. “The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.” That was something I remember CM Punk saying back in early Ring of Honor but I knew he was competing in the main event later on in the show so the Joker couldn’t possibly be him and—no. No. It couldn’t be.

But then I heard a familiar chuckle from behind the mask. Max. I tried to crane my neck to look at the Joker and his arm had a bit of give so I was able to look at him. I asked the silent question and was met with a slight nod in response. He was back.

The lights went out and suddenly all the hands holding me left and I fell quite unceremoniously onto the mat. The lights came back on and they were gone.

He was gone. And I didn’t know if I wanted him to come back for me or not. This wasn’t the Max I knew. This man was someone completely different, and I didn’t know whether or not I wanted to know this Max. But there was only one thing I knew for certain:

Hell was empty and the Devil was here.

I wish we had more female characters like Eleanor Shellstrop. One of the most unlikable people you've ever met. Read a Buzzfeed article on most rude things you can do on a daily basis and decided to use that as a list of goals. Makes everyone's day worse just by being there. Dropped a margarita mix on the ground and tried to pick it up, only to get hit by a row of shopping carts which pushed her into the road where she was hit by a boner pill delivery truck, killing her instantly. Cannot keep a romantic partner despite being bisexual. Had a terrible childhood but will die before she gets therapy. Best employee at a scam company. Just the worst but also can't help but root for her to improve.

Absolute loser. Girl-failure. Bad at almost everything. Literally perfect female character.

Back on my Danny & Ras frienemies/rivals/maybe-lovers-nobody-can-tell-their-signals-are-very-mixed train.

See, Danny has gone through time a lot. Often. It comes with being Clockwork’s charge-son-thing and honestly he finds it fun. And several times he’s used this time travelling to get some training in. Enter Ras, stage left, also a teen at the time and also learning swordsmanship from the same person.

And they… utterly despise each other. They would kill the other for an apple slice, if the other one would die! But also, only they can kill the other, as it is obviously their right!

And well, they keep running into each other. It has been a hundred years, surely the other would die by now? But of course their rival would live through utter spite. Probably to spite them specifically.

The amount of times they have ended up sparring- trying to kill each other or not- the moment they see the other is actually ridiculous. But time is also passing. And… Danny understands, not having another to talk about things people are forgetting, or have already forgotten.

How they ended up actually talking without a murder attempt was a long story that included a demon, a dragon, a pair of fae, some bandits, and a lot of alcohol, but it happened. And then it happens again. And again, and now it’s just kind of normal to share a drink after their spars, talking about things that no longer exist, and things they miss.

Sure Danny can go back in time again, but he knows better than to do it willy nilly. He’s matured, he’s been an adult for a hundred years now, he knows there’s consequences for messing with time, even with Clockwork’s blessings.

The first time they got married was technically for an undercover assassination. Well, Ras was there to assassinate someone, Danny was there to grab an artifact that should Not be in the realm of the living. And they got divorced after, it was fine.

They just, also got married again when they met a few years later, for another job. And… okay, so maybe they have gotten married over a dozen times now and only divorced like half of those times. Half of those were for the bit or while drunk!

And even if technically they’re married or shared a bed, it’s not like they're exclusive! As Ras’ daughters’ existences attest to (adopted in one case or not). They don’t exactly have a label for their relationship, despite others asking for one or trying to put a name to it themselves.

Now Danny knows Ras isn’t exactly a good dude, or at least on the side of ‘good’ as he’s a literal assassin. But he also knows that good? Bad? Rather relative. He had gotten labeled as a villain when he was just trying to help all that time ago after all, and really who was he to tell someone else how to live their life?

Which brings him to now, where he’s run into his old frienemy-rival and his youngest daughter. Who has a braindead teenager and a small toddler. Which is fine, really- but also, Talia dear, why are you using a brain dead teenager to guard your three year old son?

Okay, Talia dear, Ras (Derogatory), why are you using your brain dead son and grandson to guard your younger son and grandson? Do you not have the Pits, which you were soo proud about Ras? Yes, he will spar with you, but for Realms’ sake, heal, what’s his name? Ah yes, go heal Jason and he’ll actually stick around for a few years, deal? Good.

Eddie’s just chilling one night on a live-stream in his studio because he can’t sleep when he hears the door at the top of the stairs open, slam shut, and the fast heavy footsteps.

Steve misses the last two stairs on his way down and then just stands there for a second. He’s in his pajamas, hair messy and breathing heavy, and all he says is, “I need a poster board.”

And that’s manageable so Eddie smiles and says, “Let me see what I got.”

He moves off-camera to dig through his craft supplies. Steve moves to the couch where he puts his head in his hands because he’s tired and he is, “So, so stupid.”

“Hey, knock that off,” Eddie tells him. “This is the first thing you’ve forgotten about in a long time. It’s normal for everybody to forget something every now and then, and it’s fine. You remembered now.”

He doesn’t actually get an answer from Steve or get him to lookup until he lays a big poster board on the table and kisses the top of his head. He holds out markers like, “You want stencils or do you want me to write it?”

“Can you write it?”

“Of course, babe. Gotta gimme a kiss first though,” Eddie says, grinning when he gets an actual smile (and kiss) out of Steve. He sits down and uncaps his marker, “Alright, what’s this for?”

“Bake sale.”

“Another one?“ Eddie asks, already writing out the letters to looks like chocolate chip cookies. “Didn’t the school have one two weeks ago?”

Eddie’s so focused on what he’s doing that he’s halfway through the second letter before he realizes the lapse into silence. When he looks up Steve has his head in his hands again, “I am so dumb.”

“You were thinking about the bake sale from two weeks ago,” Eddie says and Steve confirms it when he runs his fingers into his hair and pulls on it hard. Eddie gently pulls his hands away, “Hey, baby. Look at me. Stop being mean to yourself. It happens.”

“It shouldn’t happen.”

“But it does,” Eddie says, squeezing Steve’s hand in his. “And no one got hurt so, no harm no foul no monsters from hell. Right?”

Eddie gestures to the B A drawn on the poster board, “We’ll just write out battle of the bands and have a little competition, yeah? We’ll see if Robin will break out the trumpet for this one. How’s that sound?”

Steve reluctantly answers, “It sounds nice.”
